But actually, but that's kind of what you're doing, Michael. I mean, you're going on this road, this journey of what's inside of you. Inside of you with Michael Rosenbaum was not recorded in front of a live studio audience. Is it going to record this time? It did. Are we going to record this time? this? What if I just did it like Harry Carey?

Hey, everybody. Hey, fortune. I'll tell you you've worked with everybody from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Will Farrell. I would love it. You might get tired of that after a while. Yeah, people might get old. What is he doing? Because most people wouldn't get it. They'd be like, I don't understand the bit. You just got back from a pitch. I did.

You don't have to say for what, but you pitch something. I did. Tell the audience what a pitch is like. It's not. I do a lot of development stuff behind the scenes, but not many people see it because either I sell something and they buy it and then never make it, or they'll make like one episode that never sees a light of day. A pitch is basically like any idea that you've come up with, maybe by yourself or with the team, and you go out to the studios and say, hey, this is our idea.

Our idea. You guys won't buy it. A lot of times they go, no. but we love you. Yeah, dude. They're like any other idea, come back to us. You're like, okay. Have you ever heard no in the room?

No. Uh-uh. You know, I just, I was telling you this before, but I've had so many times where they're like, wow, that was, that was great. No, that was great. We're going to get together. We're going to talk quickly about it and we'll let you know as soon as possible. Then three weeks later, you're like, hey, did they ever call?

And then we call, like it and then feel desperate. And they go, oh, yeah, we're going to, we're going to talk. Yeah, no, this is not for us. Yeah. And also, it's important to know. You're not just making sure that it's a good pitch. Yeah. You want to get in the room with the bigwigs.

You want to get in the room with folks that make decisions. The people that can buy it. Right. You don't want to get in there with Jeffrey and, you know, assistant to, okay, well, we'll get to him. And then they are scared. So they're like, oh, let's not even bring it to him. They're too busy.

So you don't know what happens. They're not taking that up the flag. pole from Jeffrey. No, Jeffrey just doesn't have it. Yeah, but you know, I'm always pitching something.

I've sold like three movies. Jesus. I've sold three television shows. Jesus. I've sold an unscripted show, an animated show. In the last how many years? My first sale was 2012.

Okay, so in 14 years, you've sold like 10 things. Yeah, and I've made two of them. What were the things you made? I pitched a show with Tina Faye as a producer. And it was based on my life growing up in the South. And ABC bought it and we shot the pilot. Annie Potts played my mom.

I played myself. John Carroll Lynch played my dad. How did that not go? It got close, but you know. Were you devastated? Oh, I was so bummed. That wasn't like 2015. So that was a while ago.

But that was a good one. We shot it. It was so fun. I mean, obviously I can look back and see where some of the holes were. Yeah. I feel like we could have worked with that. Yeah, but why couldn't they look at the holes and go?

We could fix that. We could do that. Well, pacing. I think timing too. You can only have one gay show on at a time back then. Now it's like Gayville City. Gayville City.

I mean, you could do whatever you want, right? I guess. I don't know. I haven't. Well, it's a good thing, right? Aren't you happy? Yeah, for sure, absolutely. It should be a, you know, a nothing thing as far as like that it's just common, you know?

Right, right. I shot a pilot in Brazil that I sold and on paper it's a great idea. True TV bought it. And it's, I travel around the world playing in other countries game shows. Right? It's an amazing idea on paper. and we went to Brazil, shot the pilot. I filmed a game show, like a live game show.

A Brazilian game show. A hugely popular. A Portuguese game show. A hugely popular Brazilian game show where like the biggest stars of Brazil are on this game show. But do they speak English? No, they had to have a translator for me. That is absolutely genius. It reminds me of the Chris Farley episode when it goes in the Japanese game show.

And they're like, oh, konichiwa. And he's like, I don't speak Japanese. I, you know, that is funny though. Yeah, we filmed some really cool things around the city, but they just kind of didn't know what to do with it. Yeah. Which I get. And also, the actual shooting of it was so difficult.

It's one of the hardest things I've ever filmed. Why? It's just shooting in another country with a small crew. There's just a lot to it. I almost died like twice. Are you serious? You have to go to the hospital? No, like I was in a car that, you know,

I don't think it had an emissions test. ever and I think I almost had carbon monoxide poison. We kept filming me riding in this car. At one point I was starting to get lightheaded. My buddy Chris Frangelo, we hired him to come help. And he was like, you got to get her out of this car. And then at another point,

we pay this guy to use his bike that had like a cart in the front of it. And they had me going down this thing on like this huge amount. with like a cliff on the left like it could have fallen apart any second um so it just wasn't it was a lot more difficult to film and I thought oh my god if I have to do this for like 12 episodes so you were hoping it didn't get picked up I did I've done that too I pitched the show and we shot it and I didn't realize what a pain in the ass producers were going to be oh and they were like having

oh ask this do this do this and all of a sudden where I thought this would take you know a couple hours to talk to someone. I'm exhausted after the first interview and like, you know, driving around. And I was like, and they're not paying much at all. I don't want to do this. I hope this doesn't get picked up. Yeah. And you don't know until you're filming something what it's going to be like. So I know. There are definitely blessings in disguise. Do you know when something's good when you're on set, like you're, uh, or if you just said, you know, I thought I did, but, you know, I don't even think about that anymore. Because until it's aired, you don't know. You really don't know. You really don't know.

until it airs. I mean, there are things that I'm like, this is pretty funny. I think we're getting some stuff. And then everyone's like, we just watched it. It's terrible. You're like,

oh, okay. Then there are other times that you kind of know, like you have a feeling like, I don't know, this ain't it. Yeah, but do you like,

do you still feel rejection? Do you still feel, you know, if something doesn't, it doesn't turn out like you thought. Do you get sad? Do you get depressed? No,

I think I just try to do a good job in my part. So I would be more bummed if, like, I contributed to the suckiness of it. But if I'm, like, decent in it and the project's not bad, I go, well, I did that, I did everything I could. Are you good with lines? Yeah. Because I come from the groundlings back in the day where we had to put on a new sketch

show all the time. So you had to know lines like that constantly. Yeah, you had to memorize very quickly. You mess up and go, God, what is the line? I don't remember. Yeah, sometimes you just go blank. You go, I don't remember. get blank but I can unless it's like a crazy big scene where like I have a lot of dialogue a lot of

dialogue I can glance at it the night before what look at it the next morning unless they want it word for word and be okay even word for word oh yeah word for you have photographic memory no not photographic just smart just picks it up fast I do find that if you read your script or your sides the night before right before bed for me at least just read them don't Just read them. It seeps in a little bit more. Really? Mm-hmm.

And then I go over them again in the makeup chair the next morning. I like to do, then I'll do the rehearsal with my sides, my script, and then I'm good. Right. So you don't want to be off book until you're ready to film. I'm not off book till filming. Because, yeah, there's the whole cruise around there. And if you mess up, they're like, oh, she doesn't know her shit. Yeah.

No, I like to keep my script during rehearsal. Right. And then, you know, not like in it the whole time where I'm not like not hearing what the director's telling me. Yeah. I haven't like your performance is, and I'm telling you that I swear to God,

may God strike me down if I am lying, that I couldn't believe how vulnerable and real you are. It was like something that I don't see very often in, on TV or even in comedies or whatever. There's just this moment that you fall in love. If you didn't love you already, you know what I'm talking about the moment? Have people told you that?

That definitely is the, the scene that everybody kind of even everybody's like oh you're you can act you can act i was like i was like i'm not acting for a while now so it made me they're like i'm not saying their other stuff was bad but this hit them i think i just had more levels maybe than i've ever had it's just this stunned look on your face like oh oh yeah yeah yeah and you could see you just wanted to just be dead you didn't want to be there and it was just so uh It was subtle and so impactful. I was like, holy shit.

And I knew you could act, but I'm like, she can act. She can do some, she can go dark. She can go, she can do drama, drama. I mean, it was nice to get to sort of, you know, flex the, not flex, like, skills, but just like a flexibility in what I get to do and say. A lot of my characters that I play are crazy and over the top. I'm insane. And, you know, we had a really great director, Shuri Appalbee, for that.

Yeah. And she was a W.B. Girl with me for years. Yeah. And she, you know, being an actress, she's so actor friendly that she, I was so glad that she was the director on that one because she was really helping me dig deeper. Yeah. Because she'd kind of go over the lines with me.

And she would get vulnerable and she would get teary-eyed. And it just kind of like rubbed off on me. Her describing it, that I would be like, yeah, yeah. So like it was very helpful to have someone like her just help me dig deeper. Yeah, I really felt like you were at a loss for words and you were just trying to get out of there in that scene. And it was fucking uncomfortable and sad. Yeah. Is Will the kind of guy, Will Ferrell, in case she didn't know.

Is he the kind of guy that after him goes, God, that was great? He's very, very complimentary, very, like, team player. If anybody does a good job, he's definitely like, that was funny or that was really good. I mean, he pulled me aside on that scene later that night. He was like, oh, my God, he said a similar thing to you. Like, you almost made me cry. I almost sort of crying when you, I'm like, when I was looking at you doing that. And I felt that was so sweet of him.

And we had another scene. I don't think you've gotten there yet. You don't say anything. where we're in a bar and he and I kind of lock eyes at one point and we both kind of got teary-eyed. Really? Yeah, so it was kind of fun being like these crazy characters and then getting to be sort of vulnerable and emotional. Not to like, you know, crazy emotional, but just a little snippets of it. Yeah.

Yeah, you know, the show, it's like you start watching it and you go, okay, there's this crazy, zany show that's just like, you know, off the wall and this. but it's it's i got hooked i got hooked in pretty fast like there's a couple of scenes that like that yeah they just got me and i go i remember turning to my girlfriend going i like this aw i really like this and i'm hard i'm hard on i always want to like things that my friends are doing right but i was so happy that i really liked it i yeah i got a couple texts from some friends i really respect to good comedians that like not bad very complimentary so that made me feel good i mean we're waiting to see you know if we get to do another season i really hope so wasn't it one of the biggest shows on

it was in the top 10 for a month i i that's pretty good but you know those those country clubs and golf courses are expansive are they yeah so i think they just got to look at all the logistics and see what maybe the ideas are for next season well maybe they could just go to miniature golf next year. Like, you lose as it. That could be. You know, and that, those are cheaper. That would be a lot cheaper. That could work. I think any mini golf course would be dying for production to rent it out for a week.

Yeah. Did you, you worked with well before that. You did a bit part. I did a really small part in his movie. You're cordially invited. And then I did another part in, again, very small in a movie he has coming out sometime next year called Judgment Day. Is he like your go-to now? I love him. I mean, are you his go-to? I think that Will's a point in his career when he likes somebody and he gets along with them. He wants to work with them more. He wants to work on them more. Did he tell you that? Like, we're going to do stuff. I knew that he liked me. We hadn't gotten to spend much time together, but we had sort of like a good rapport.

Yeah, like, hey, I like you. At the end of the week, working with him on your who are invited, I was like, are we friends yet? He's like, we'll see. He just has a fun sense of humor. sure um but we genuinely became good buddies on this i go to sports you know you're a sports guy i saw you're at the world cup aren't you yeah we went to a world cup game we just call you and go want to go well sometimes i'll just tell him i'll go will i really want to go to one of these games and he'll be like okay let me see um and if he has an extra ticket he'll call me uh and then other times he'll invite me i've gone to the lakers with him i went to l a fc game king's game he's asked me several kings game which I know you're a big fan of them. I've really wanted to go,

but I've been on tour a couple times. So hopefully next season. Do you honestly think, you know, when you were younger and you're just starting out, you're doing groundlings and this and that, and there's probably a time where

you're not working a ton. Right. You're not making money a ton. Did you think, I'm going to make it? I'm going to make it. I'm different. I've got what it takes.

Because, you know, things are. get stagnant, especially when you're starting out and you're like, eh, is this working out? Did you ever get like that? No, I never had a moment where I was like, yeah, this is it. I think, you know, when I started, I moved

to L.A. 2003, started Groundlings, 2005, got my first TV job 2010. And back to... Is that Chelsea? Chelsea was 2011. 2010 was last coming standing. Back then, like, being different was not a good thing.

No one knew what to do with me. I tested twice for SNL, 2009, 2010. So I had a lot of getting close to things. I think I auditioned for Mad TV. Maybe I can't remember, or at least producer. Maybe they were doing a spinoff thing. I just was like in the mix, but like people were just like, you're funny, but we're not, we're not sure about you and the, and so if anything, I was more of.

just like, man, I hope I figure this out at some point. Hope they figure it out. Oh, yeah, true. But I did know, the only thing I did know was that I was willing to put in the work and that I would do whatever had to do for my day job to pay my bills. What was your day job? I was a journalist for seven years, an entertainment journalist. Really?

Yeah. I didn't even know that. What did I know that? I don't know that. I did like red carpet events. Your response should have been, you don't know me. You don't know me, Michael? You don't know me, too.

I did a lot of like movie premieres. Did you enjoy it? I loved it. I mean, it was a nine to five job. I worked for these amazing women who really knew that I wanted to be a comedian. Like a lot of people, they find out you want to do something else. They get very territorial about their thing. Right.

And they weren't. They were not. Do this. They were like, as long as you do your job, you know, which I did. And I had classes at night, class in the weekend. And they were like, you know, they'd come to my shows. And that's great. It was so cool to like have people just like be so supportive.

I could not have made it had they not kept me afloat. So I didn't make a lot of money. It was not a high paid job. But it got my, keeping you afloat. It got my bills paid. And then, gee, In 2010, they had to let me go only because newspapers were dying, you know. And so I spent that year, like, tutoring kids and whatever I could pick up any job I could pick up.

I love that you're not lazy. You've never been lazy, huh? Never. And I was like, I'll do whatever I have to do. I mean, your attitude is lazy. Laid back. You're so laid back that people assume, oh, she chooses probably not to do. You're constantly pushing the embell.

I'm always working. I'm always working And so I knew that was the one thing That would set me apart is that there would never be any job too small That I you know wouldn't do Right Set for porn which I don't think anyone wanted that for me anyway I'm about that they do

You never know to you try it Right I would do it and um Fans only What is it called? Only fans? Only fans Fans only I'm sorry I sort of got it I I've never been honest

I've never been on it either. I mean, are you tempted ever just to see it? No. Yeah, I just don't want to see what's going on. I don't think I'm the, you know, the demo. What do you mean? Are a lot of women watching OnlyFand? No, I'm divorced. You got divorced? Dvorasing. What the fuck? You didn't know that? You don't know me. I don't know. What the fuck? Yeah, we separated like a year and a half ago. I didn't know why I haven't talked to you much. I know. That's not something like, hey, you know, is it in the news and everything? It came out when we see. It came out when we see. I didn't know. It came out when we. I didn't. It came out when we. separated. Oh, that's the interview. That will be all for today. I'm sorry. You hate talking about it. No, I mean, I just haven't talked much about it. Just other than... Was it out of the bullet? Blue? Yeah, I mean, we were together 10 years. And then the last, like, year, just, you know, just things changed. And you kind of realize you grow apart and want different things. And, you know, I just think that we kind of ran our course. Did you get depressed? It was a hard time because that relationship was falling apart. And then it came to an end. And then the next day my mom told me she had incurable. cancer. So it was not a great. It's been a, it's been a hard year. It's weird. It's been a hard year and a half personally, but professionally never better. Isn't that something how that works out?

Yeah. So they're like, hey, these are going to have. This is going to happen. So you're going to feel like shit, but you're also going to have the best job of your life. Yeah, but that's been kind of a saving grace. I filmed for seven months during the like, uh, like a couple months into my separation, I started filming and I went from The Hawk into this movie with Nikki Glazer and Kim Kardashian and Brenda Song. And so for seven months, I had this really lovely distraction that I think really helped me get to the other side of my separation.

And, you know, my mom's not still, it's not great. She's hanging in there? She's hanging in there. You know, it's an aggressive answer. You guys are tight. We're very tight. So that's going to be a tough. It's tough now, but that's going to be really hard.

I mean, you know, even yesterday on a smaller level, but you know how much animals mean to people. And me, especially, my friend Bill and Andrea lost their dog, Arch. Yeah. And he was out. He finally's been trying to get this movie going, like hustling and just trying to make ends meet. Yeah. And he goes off. Finally gets greenlit.

and he's going scouting and the day he leaves his dog dies oh that's so sad and so i was just like you know so it's it's it's tough i mean is there i mean do you have is there one person that you could cry on their shoulder that you know i'm going to go cry on their shoulder yeah for sure i have um a couple people in my life i'm really close to uh and then i can call any time and they have been tremendous and uh helping me through it, you know? Yeah. Because I try to be strong and funny and funny.

Yeah. You're like the clown like me. For sure. You go in a room, you light and everybody's mood and then you go, I'm a good God. Yeah. I'm a loser. I've had some of that lately with my mom. But yeah, I mean, my best friend through my separation was like just a trooper.

She took calls every day. you know like and would hear the same stuff over and over again and it never never seemed to bother her she always was present like she i'm here okay yeah we'll get through it she got me through it i had a couple of friends i really just will always be grateful for their um just being there um and then you know now those same people um are just they they know how much i love my mom and um you make me cry gosh i know it It's hard. It's hard because it's not the, there's not, it's, I'm such a positive person. My mom's such a positive person too. We've always been that those people are like, we'll figure it out. We'll do it. And you're like, we can't. We're going to keep her alive as long as possible. But it will, she will succumb to this. Is she the one that's being tough? Like, I'm fine. Stop it. She goes through her ups and downs too, but she's been very resilient. I think in a way that's even surprised her, you know. As she wants to live, that's why.

Well, it's, you know, when someone's like, I want to live, I want to, you know, experience this and that. And you're just like, I want you too as well, you know. Yeah. I just, this cancer, she has bile duck cancer. It's very, it's rare, but more people I think I've been hearing from or have it or know someone who has it. And it's when she got diagnosed 16 months ago, they said the average was about 13 months. So I don't know what our timeline is. Yeah, just trying to cherish each day.

Exactly. So you can do. Yeah. I don't know what it means, but I think it means a lot for your mom to know how much you love her. And I think she knows. Yeah, for sure. And you know how much she loves you. And I think that's because I think a lot of people don't talk like as closely as you and your mother.

Yeah. And all of a sudden, bam, something happens. And you're like, God, I didn't get to say. Oh, yeah. I didn't get to this. I didn't get to that. Is there anything you think you've left out that you need to say? Well, that's a blessing if, you know, you were to look at the silver linings here is that, you know, so many people don't get any notice.

Their parents just boom, gone. Yeah. This is giving us this runway to, like, do things that, you know, I took her to Europe with me for a week when I was on tour. I, you know, have spent so much more time with her than I might have been up because she's in North Carolina. I'm in L.A. I've gone home a lot more. We talk candidly about things. I've, you know, called, being like, I'm so sorry about being a jerk when I was 15. Yeah. You know, you just have these like, yeah, I get to tell her I'm proud of her and that, you know, what I've appreciated about her life and what she's done. it's been good in that way yeah you know moms usually um do this after a breakup or drag i never

liked them did she do that i mean i've anybody i never liked her anybody that watched my special crushing it on netflix knew there was a little bit of like reality to it well it was just a little competition i don't know what you would call it where you know my mom kind of wanted me to be her husband. I would joke that I, um, there, you know, she wanted my time and, um, wanted to be my plus one. So a wife got in the way of that. So I think she would have a hard time in that regard with anybody, um, because, um, yeah, there's just something about I'm the youngest, I'm the only girl that she just wanted my time. Um, so I, I joke in my current. act that she's the most pumped

that I'm getting a divorce. Yes, I got her back. Yeah, she got me back. You know what my mom would do? I'd be dating a new girl and she'd bring up the old girl. She'd go, what was her name? The one who was a flight attendant. I go, what about her?

She was, oh, nothing. I just really liked her. Oh, funny. And I'm like, well, I'm not with her. You're like, we've moved on. So what are you trying to say? Oh, no, I was just throwing it out there. Well, don't throw it out there.

Yeah. You know, especially when you're with somebody else. Yeah. I mean, you're at the point now where people notice you. They come up to you. I mean, really come up to you. They always have for the last 10 years or whatever or whatever. But now do you feel like it's more and do you feel cockier than you were?

Do you feel like sometimes you walk in a room and go, yeah, unfortunate? Well, it's funny because I've been on TV pretty steady since 2011 now. and so I have always been recognized just because I'm not in that like I'm so famous just I look very specific right I mean I mean you're yeah which is great isn't that great it's great yeah but so like there's nobody like fortune people have been coming up to me since Chelsea lately days high fiving hello you know what's up yeah and so it has been a part of my world for a while it's just that the industry was not aware of it you know right right So it was not new to me.

And back in Chelsea days, that show was huge. I got people coming to me all the time. And so I had a taste of it. And the Mindy Project had so many huge fans that would come up. But it definitely now I've noticed with Arnold's Fubar show and Will's Hawk show back to back on Netflix, there's a lot more. And it's a lot more people. from all different walks of life.

Absolutely. Do you still text with Arnold Schwarzenegger? He doesn't have a phone. He doesn't, but I email him. He mails your back? Yeah, yeah. What's one email that you've gotten back from that you made you laugh? Fawtsin, good to see you.

Farson, what's going on? Well, he used to just FaceTime me out of the blue. I would send him an email and all of a sudden, like he was coming through and I'm like. That's like me. Someone will text me and I'll FaceTime. I like to FaceTime. I like to see the person. Yeah.

Do you not? I mean I don't like talking in the phone I get distracted so if I'm if someone's right there I think it depends on the person I don't want to face it on it's like how are you doing well no I was just I was work I had sent him an email like earlier and I was I was on the radio and I was like you guys hold on real quick Arnold's FaceTiming me and they're like that's hilarious um I knew if I needed to get a hold of them like right away I would just text one of his people they're always around them right um he's yeah we got along really well and you know I still go to like his house for his Christmas parties and um see him and like if I if I

email them and was like I want to go to Gold's gym with you this week he'd like come on to school you know like that yeah I've met him probably 10 times because he's good friends with Tom Arnold too on oh yeah the godfather to Tom's son jacks and um he's met me so many times and he's he's come out to me after a premiere and moving goes you very good job you're great great and then And like, you know, at my friend Tom's set third wedding. I don't know which wedding it was. You know, he'd go, oh, you were funny. You know, and he'd meet me.

But then I see him. He's like, who are you? You made an impression on him every time in a new way. Yeah, in a new way. Like, he just met me the first time. So I don't think, but he'll probably go, I remember you. Yeah. That's so cool, though, to be friends with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Will Farrell.

That's pretty cool. It's pretty great. I've been very lucky to work with some. You know what? They're lucky. That's right. Because they've got you. You know, I love that.

I'm friends with you and I can just text you and say you want to do the podcast. I've always adored you. I think you're just, you know, what's they call it, the cats meow? Meow. Yeah. What's the most unsexy thing you think someone's ever done to you that they were trying to be sexy? Um, God. Or you've done that you're like.

I'm unsexy all the time. That's hard to keep up with. Are you a lights on or? lights off girl lights off baby i'm kind of lights off too i feel like i can i feel like when i can't see anything i can get a little more freakier freakier it's like oh god you can't see me you can't see my face and i can't have it feel like you're making fun of me right now that's right you know i feel like i'm more confident with the lights out yeah i think so or like at least dim right yeah dim with some it doesn't need to be like pitch black but just like a little even if there's like a little hint of light

from the television or a soft light on a lamp. I'm not someone who makes noises a lot in bed either. No, I just don't go, oh, oh, I don't do any of that stuff. I just feel like, you know, I feel like guys shouldn't be doing that. Yeah. You're just silent. Yeah, well, I'm not silent, but I'm just like, you know, there's some audible, you know, barely audible sounds.

There you go. But I don't try to get all. turned everybody on. Like, yeah, you want it? I mean, who does that? There are guys that do that, I'm sure. Like the guys that moan at the tennis court when they're serving. Those are the guys doing it.

I played tennis for years and I never went, uh. Maybe that's why I wasn't that good. Maybe. You had to let it out. Ugh. Ugh. Oh. Uh.

And then sometimes one of us would say something funny that they're like, oh, you say that next time or whatever. We were definitely very like giving. You make him laugh, though. I think so. You do. That hot wings. Did you see the hot wings show with her? All the hot ones.

The hot ones. first of all, how hard is it to eat those chicken wings in the hot sauce? Because I think one and I'd be done. You know, I thought that. The first like five were not bad. A little tank, like the first two, nothing. And then a little tangle. And but I was totally fine.

And then the seventh one was like, okay, we're getting some heat here. This is getting hot. But I could still handle it. Eight was so hot. I cried. I involuntarily cried. You wanted to quit? I didn't want to quit.

because I was like, I'm going to see this through. But I. Will's eyes. He was like one eye, Willie. I think we all suffered equally on that. It's hard to keep a conversation. You're like, yeah, no, I think that I was doing that when I was about 14. Yeah, he had the hard part because he was having to do a lot of the answering.

And I could just, I talked about cooters a lot thinking they were going to cut some of the cooters out, but they kept all the cooters. They kept you, it was your show. you just you didn't shut up with zingers i couldn't stop and i wanted i wanted more i was dying i just was having fun i thought they were gonna cut out half the shit you said i thought they were too but they loved it in and so we were because will and we just tease each other a lot and like how and are always like just kind of cracking up so i was just hanging out with my buddy you know and then you're like oh yeah we're being filmed the worst part to me was not the chicken wings it was the warm milk

that was sitting outside for an hour that... Did you get sick? I definitely had the tummy rumbles. You took a big shit after that. I would have shit my pants after hot sauce. Hot sauce and warm milk. What if you're gluten-free?

I guess you couldn't do it. Yeah, well, they ask you about allergies and stuff. They figure it out because they have people that are vegetarians. They have like a... Mm-hmm. They do some kind of... Are you allergic to anything? No.

Nothing. Mm-mm. You like seafood? I do, yeah. Shellfish? Uh-huh. I've never had shellfish really. Are you allergic?

Yeah. It's been so many years that I want to try and have an EpiPen ready. But my doctor's like, yeah, let's not do that. I don't think. I don't think it's worth it. I go, why don't I come to the hospital and if something happens, I'll bring the food there. That would have to be a really, someone would have to prepare that so good that you cannot resist. What's a show that you that I'm trying to think of what you'd be watching now. Like are you a Cape Fear girl? No, I do. Crimes. I hate to admit this because it's so unsophisticated. Go ahead. But I am like a housewives fan. I've never seen it.

I love me some bravo. Which one? I like New Jersey. Orange County. I'm like New Jersey's on a hiatus right now. Because none of them could get along. I love Beverly Hills, Orange County. I watch some New York.

Best advice. I mean, just spinning Tom together, really, is, I think, the best thing to do. And you know, you just have to step it up. You have to, this is the time in your life when, you know, you're, you kind of become the parent and they become the child.

And it's definitely time consuming and a lot of work, but I don't think it's a thing you'll regret. I saw my mom do it for my grandmother. And, you know, it's just what you do. It's as, as the kid is, see that your parent, their end of life is is good and comfortable and that they're looked after and that you'll have you'll

think about that time i think about the end of my grandmother's life still and she died 30 years ago and uh you'll just never i think regret the time that you took to to be with them yeah i remember when i went to visit her it was not long after she passed um but i remember filming her like i want to interview her. But this is before I was doing the podcast. This was back in 2001 right before she passed. And she goes, you know, Mikey, you know, everybody always wants something from me. But I always feel like, you know, you just want to, you know, just talk to me. I like that you just, you know, you just, I would call her two in the morning in college. Yeah. I thought you'd be asleep. What are you kidding me? I'm making a cheese sandwich. Oh, that's cute. You know, she was the cutest. And I remember I came back to L.A. after I, I

interviewed her and I was on my way for an audition for Smallville. Yeah. And I called her and she's like, hey, what are you doing? I go, oh, you know, I don't know. How are you doing? I go, nothing. And she's, what's the matter? Something's wrong.

I go, well, I had a dream. She's, you had a dream that I died. And I said, yeah, and I'm trying to hold back to tears. And she's like, you know what that means? I go, what? She goes, it means I'm going to live forever. And she passed away, and I remember the next day I was at my brother's house in New York, and I got a ping on my, or whatever, the beep, the beeper. And I listened to a voicemail and said, hey, you know, I'm thinking about you and your grandma and your family, and I just want you to know you got the role of Lex Luthor.

Oh, wow. But I remember in the car when I was driving, she said, I told her I was on my way to an audition, and she says, you know what? You're going to get this one. You're going to get and she never said that. She always like, it's a hard business. Don't do it. Right. But, you know, I think that you nailed it is just listen.

Like listening is like the key ingredient to everything you do. Yeah. Acting, real life connections, your family. Yeah. If you just listen to somebody and hear them, they want to be heard. People want to be heard. That's right. And I think that's so, so important, you know, just listen to somebody.

Yeah. They might be going through a lot. You don't really just say, I'm here. Hey. Yeah. What's going on? We did a similar thing with my mom this last week. We filmed her telling a bunch of family history and stories that, you know, she'd always said there are things she was she could ask her parents.

And we were like, let's try to think of some questions that you would want us to know. Yeah. See, I think I'd want to interview my mom, but she's a bit of a liar. So I think her stories would be fabricated. I don't know if I'd get the real story. Right. You know, if I asked, I asked my mom once how she and dad met and I asked my dad, because they're divorced many years now. Had you guys meet two completely fucking different stories.

Yeah. One that favors them. In other words, oh, your father was trying to pick me up. Oh, no, your mother was trying to pick me up. Yeah. You know, but like, yeah, they just tell two different. How do you tell two different stories about how you met? I know.

That is weird. It's weird. Little Lisa says, what is a recent moment you will cherish forever and ever? Probably not to harp on my mom, but I took her on a gay cruise as you do. A gay, they have gay cruises? Yeah, they do, baby. Men and women, gay, no kids. Mostly men, 2,000 gay men, no kids.

When did you go? This was a year ago. It was literally a month before her diagnosis. We had no idea. She a drinker? No, she's a. not a drinker and she had a ball these men were so wonderful to her she loves she's a big gay advocate and ally great uh she was like the president of our p flag in town oh i love it um and gay men

really gravitate towards her um because you know there's a number of men who have been disowned by their parents and that mother connection you know you just i think yearn for if you've been cut off and they see my mom being so supportive and loving and accepting and so I saw so many men come up to her on that cruise and just be like can I have a hug wow and she was like you know stepping in for these moms and she was like I would love to give you a hug I would love to you know she she wore that with such a badge of honor to how does that make you feel so that's the thing I'm talking about being so proud of her, you know, because I, when I interviewed her last week, she was like, I haven't, you know, accomplished much in my life. And I'm like, but you've made your

difference in your way to many people. It doesn't have to be, you know, some grandiose thing. It's like you made people feel really good on a daily basis. And that's huge. You know, yeah. So I was proud of her because I could see it meant a lot to these guys. And, you know, and she would talk about what a shame it was that anyone would disown their kids. And I just thought, you know, like, what an example she has said. And I've had people come up to me that have told me that other parents have seen her acceptance through her P-flag work and locally. And it made them call their gay child up and be like, all right, let's talk. So she did have an impact.

tell her mom. You know what's funny is it makes me think of my mother because that's the one thing about my mother. If I were gay, I may eventually be. Yeah, listen, we've got time. Yeah, we've got time. Give me a what year is? Give me a half bottle of tequila and fucking forget it. No, but if I were gay, I think she would absolutely support me a billion percent.

Yeah. Because I know I see her how she supports. she's so very supportive and very liberal like that. Yeah. And open-minded. I remember one time in college, she goes, Michael, I know you're in the theater and everything. And, you know, I just want you to know you can tell me if you're gay, I'm not going to love you just the same. I go, okay.

And she goes, okay. And I go, I am. And she goes, okay, okay. And then I kind of played it like I kind of forgot that I told her that I was gay. and then I told her like a couple of weeks later like a mom I'm not I'm not gay so you're a liar asshole you're a liar too I'm a liar I'm a liar too I was playing though and then you know what happened every time I would come home her friends would kind of look at me I get they were like going I go I just they didn't have to say they're going I'm not gay that's so funny oh my god yeah but I

always remember you know the one guy at the um that McDonald's the gay man who who who worked there or not McDonald's Wesselman's grocery store where I worked and she'd always just sit there and have long conversations with him yeah she always been out of her way to talk to the gays oh yeah and I love that about her for sure you know that was cool uh do you have a favorite quote linda m asks i don't know many quotes yes i there's a milton burrell quote funny enough uh and it's funny because arnold was good friends with him uh but i read it in uh when i was in senior in college because I was feeling really sad about graduating. I loved college.

I was very involved. It was what I thought I was peaking in college. Like, it won't get better than this. Right. This is it. I was so depressed about graduating. And then I saw this quote that made me realize that, like, the victory is in having done anything, right? The victory was that I had this beautiful experience.

And so the quote was, I'd rather be a could be if I could. cannot be an r for it could be is a maybe who is reaching for a star i'd rather be a has been than a might have been by far for a might have been has never been but a has was once an r and i always thought that was so cool can you text me that or email me that i can yeah i love that i can't think of any quotes other than let me say who's more foolish the fool or the fool who follows him there you go that's obi one canobey comparison is the thesis of joy. That really rings a bell because I don't know how many times in my life that I was like, wow, look at what they have. And what they get? I go, hang on a second. Let's be grateful for what you have.

For sure. You don't need what they have. You need to be happy with what you have and what you got. So that's always something that, you know, and you get caught up sometimes. You're like, oh, man, this or that, they got this, but you don't know what people are going through. You don't, I don't want. And as I get older, I don't want anybody's fucking life. If you said switch places with Leonardo DiCaprio, you're damn right. No, I wouldn't. No, but like honestly, I don't want to work that much. Yeah.

I mean, I love DeCaprio. I love, he's got a great career. He's the biggest. He's a movie star. But the older I get, I'm like, I kind of like my friends. There you go. My life. Yeah.

You're always having a good time. Lastly, Ben R says, what's the funniest experience you had this year? I filmed that movie that I was talking about with the ladies. Yeah. And that was really fun because the four of us were like in every scene together. And so for two and a half months, we spent all day every day together and just laughed and giggled and gossiped. And it was a really fun treat. What would you say a song would be to sum up this interview, a song?
