Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Van Flees.
Oh, greetings and salutations, my friend.
Welcome back to another one here on Insight.
I'm CVV, Chris Van Fleet.
Happy Friday.
Hope it's been a great week for you.
Thank you for being with us on this one.
And thank you for making Insight
the number one wrestling podcast on the planet.
Hit a Cody Cutter on that follow button.
wherever you're listening right now.
And could I ask for a favor?
I'm sure you've already done this,
but if by chance you haven't,
if you're listening on Spotify,
could you take like four seconds
to leave a rating on there?
And if you're on Apple podcast,
could you write a few words
or leave a few emojis as a review?
Both of those would help the show so, so much.
So I will thank you in advance for that.
And I can't wait to give you a high five
in person at one of our upcoming live shows.
We've got two of them on the calendar right now.
Insight Live is kicking off Survivor Series weekend in San Diego on Friday, November 28th.
Then, WrestleMania 42, we're already talking about WrestleMania 42.
We're going to be back at Circa Resort and Casino, Las Vegas on Thursday, April 16th.
It was a huge show earlier this year in Vegas.
It's going to be even bigger next year.
Tickets for both of those are on sale right now at CVV.
ticks.com. It's also the option for the VIP tickets, the CVVIP tickets, if you will, that includes
an exclusive Ask CVV before the show and a meet and greet after. So CVVTiX.com. Also, for everybody who's
been asking about micro-brawlers, there are still micro-brawlers available. And if you want to grab them,
CVV-merch.com, I'd be happy to sign them. So when you go to CVV-Murch.com, you'll see the micro-brawlers,
you'll also see the new Back to the Future inspired Insight with Chris Flan Vleet T-shirt, which is my favorite t-shirt by far.
So grab those CVV merch.com.
Welcome, my friends, to Ask CVV number 103.
Man, I still can't believe we're in the triple digits with these ones.
If you have a question for next week for Ask CVV number one, oh, fatal four way, send them in
on social media using that hashtag, Ask CVV, shoot me an email, CVV at chris fanfleet.com, or if you're
listening on Spotify, after you're done leaving a rating, of course, you can leave a comment on there
with your question for Ask CVV number 104. And if you are listening on Spotify, just leave the word
smash in honor of the smashing machine coming out this weekend, in honor of the episode with
the real life smashing machine Mark Kerr, which we had yesterday on the show. Man, if you haven't
listened to that one, there's all the feels in that one. All the emotions were covered in that episode,
but I can't recommend that one enough, especially if you're planning to see the smashing machine
this weekend, man. We'll get into, I've already reviewed the movie if you listened a few weeks
ago, but we'll talk a little bit more about smashing machine in just a little bit here, but
leave the word smash if you're listening on Spotify. I am in Tampa right now as I record this.
I am in a I'm in a rather small hotel by the airport here in Tampa. I'm going to be recording
with Natty tomorrow. Her new book called Last Heart beating comes out at the end of the month.
I've already read it. Man, it is so good. And what an amazing story Natty has. So I'm here in Tampa to
record that episode tomorrow. You'll be seeing.
that episode in like two or three weeks before the book comes out. But I was just thinking,
like, how lucky are we as wrestling fans to have two great biographies come out within a month
of each other, or like a month and a bit of each other? Carrying Cross's book, Life is Fighting.
And by the way, Killer Cross and Scarlett are going to be my guests on Tuesday.
There is a ton to talk about with them. But life is fighting. A.
amazing. And man, there's some parts of that book that are just like a, just a gut punch.
But also at the same time, that book is like, it just, it reminds you that you need to keep going
in life. And I was honored to be able to read that book early. In fact, if you look at the back
cover of Life is Fighting and you look at the blurbs, they call them, the endorsements on the back
of the book, you may see a name that you recognize on there. You may see the words that I had to
say about that book. So we had Life is Fighting, and now we've got Natty's book called Last Heartbeating,
which is coming out October 28th. You can pre-order Natty's book on Amazon again. Last Heart
Beating. I can't wait to dive into everything with her. Speaking of diving in, let's dive into
CVV number one, oh, three here with this one from Michael Franklin on Spotify. He says,
Hey, CVV. I love the interview with Sonti and your discussion about John Sina's final match.
Now that the date and location have been officially announced, how do they make sure his retirement
speech doesn't get cut off like Goldbergs? So yes, it is now officially official.
John Sina's retirement match is exactly what the rumors said it would be. It is happening at Saturday
night's main event Saturday, December 13th in Washington, D.C. I know there were early talks about
this being in Boston. And then over the last, call it, two or so months, the reports emerged
that Boston got outbid. Washington, D.C. was the one that ended up winning this,
ended up, I guess, paying whatever the site fee was for this. So that's it. As we sit here
right now, John Cena has five dates remaining.
just five. We've got Crown Jewel. We've got Raw in Boston. We've got Raw at Madison Square Garden,
New York City. We've got Survivor Series, of course, the day after Insight Live. And then we've got
John Cena's final match December 13th. I think they learned a lot with the way that Goldberg's
retirement match and retirement speech happened and were handled. There is a zero. There is a zero.
0.000% chance that what we saw with Goldberg is going to happen here with John Sina.
I actually think there's a possibility that the entire show on Saturday night's main event
just ends up being like a tribute to John Sina. Because if you're a match on, we'll call it
the undercard here, if you're another match on Saturday night's main event, there's just going to be
no focus on that at all. Everyone's just going to be like, let's get it.
to it. And I'm sure there will be other matches on there, but like, I think it's going to be just
a lot of paying tribute to John Cena's career and different people either saying some words
behind the scenes, edited packages, maybe it's John Cena's best moments, and that all leads
us up to that final match. And you can play around with things on television. And we've seen
this a few times where like the first hour of raw will be commercial free or the first hour of
dynamite is commercial free. You can play around with some things and you can figure out a way to
like rebalance the ads and put the ads in other places. Maybe instead of the ad breaks being
three minutes, maybe they load them up to be four or five minutes, but there's less of them.
I think there was a lot of lessons learned with that Saturday night's main event. And if you look at any of
the Saturday nights made events since they relaunched recently. The main complaint has just been
they're too commercial heavy, which I guess people just seem to forget that like this is part
of a network television show. That's just how network television works. You watch any NFL game on Fox or
CBS, nobody's going, oh, man, there's too many commercials. It's just like, no, that's what you expect.
When the play is whistled down or when it's the two-minute warning or when it's half time, there's
commercials. And I just think that we are, we aren't used to that cadence in wrestling.
Like, we're used to how it is on Raw or Smackdown.
Obviously, with a PLE, there's no commercials.
So like, the biggest complaint has been too many commercials.
So I, I would have to think they can't mess this up.
They can't.
There's too much on the line here.
And for everybody who's saying, oh, man, John Cena's final match.
Oh, is a Saturday night's main event, I think you're looking at it the wrong way. I think you're looking at like PLEs is like they are the highest thing. In order to watch a PLE, at least in the United States, you've got to have ESPN or the ESPN app. In order to watch NBC, which is where Saturday night's main event lives, you just need to have an antenna. So you don't even need to pay for a subscription service if you live close enough to.
a major city that you could get it for free on an antenna.
Or you can get it on Peacock, which is a lot less than the ESPN app.
That's for sure, 1099 a month for the Peacock app.
Or if you do still happen to be one of those people that subscribes to cable,
it's included there.
The point I'm making is you don't need to, you don't need to seek out the PLE nearly as much.
Like, NBC is a place where people are just kind of used to going to within
their guide if we're still talking about cable here. It's a place where Sunday night football,
the most watched television program of the week happens to reside. So you have the option here
with it being on network television to see, to have the most amount of eyeballs, again,
in the United States for that to be seen. So I can understand here, and I've seen a lot of people
say, man, why isn't his last match at WrestleMania? And I agree with you. I totally agree.
I understand that the way that this was laid out was John Sina is going to give it his all for the calendar year of 2025.
It's going to start in January.
It's going to end in December.
And a lot of this is around John Sina's schedule and filming and other commitments that he has.
But he cleared out those 36 dates to make this happen.
I personally, like a lot of you, would have loved to see WrestleMania to WrestleMania.
or Royal Rumble 2025, which would give us 16 months all the way to WrestleMania 42.
That would have been amazing.
But I think the focus here now with John Sina's final match being this special of its own.
I mean, yes, it's Saturday night's main event, but really, the tagline on this,
all of the focus around this is this is John Sina's final match.
So now you get this entire two-hour special dedicated to John Sina rather than just being a one-off match in a two-night WrestleMania extravaganza and it's one match of 12.
Instead, it ends up being one of maybe one of one.
It's possible.
One of two, one of three.
I'm not sure how many matches will actually end up being on this card.
But he's already had his last WrestleMania match.
And I guess we're going to have to live with the fact that it was that match.
It was that match with fiend, fiend, fiend, fain, fain, hey, you know what I'm talking about here.
And that match where, I've said this before, I'll say it again.
Crowd wanted to cheer.
John Cena so much.
And they weren't booing Cody because they wanted to boo Cody.
They were booing Cody because they wanted to cheer Sina so much.
And it's just like, all right, well, like, we're going to cheer him anyway.
even though he's doing healist things, we're going to cheer him anyway.
So if we're cheering him, I guess we got to boo for the other guy.
But that, WrestleMania 41, John Cena winning the championship, the never seen 17.
That's a great moment, but the match itself, definitely one of John Cena's worst WrestleMania matches.
And that's going to go down now is John Cena's final WrestleMania match.
Victor M. Ruiz, VMR 907 on Instagram, says,
Hey, Chris, long time wrestling fan, recent fan of the show.
Well, welcome, Victor.
Question for Ask CVV number 103.
What if Seneca gets to the end of his farewell tour?
And the rock comes out, if you smell, and says,
you're not done.
Your soul belongs to me.
See you at WrestleMania.
could be Vegas, could be Saudi Arabia.
I like the idea.
And look, there's a lot of different fantasy things
that we can put out there and we can chat about
and it's fun to discuss these things.
But I think the thing with John Sina is he's a man of his word.
And John Sina said in July of 2024
that he would be done at the end of 2025.
And I think that he can't renege on that.
I don't think there's any amount of money that is going to make John Sina wrestle another match.
We'll see John Sina plenty of times in WWA.
He'll make lots of different returns.
He will cut promos.
I'm sure he'll put people over.
Sounds like he'll be in some sort of a coaching or mentor role.
But this is it.
Like as much as we'd want to see another John Sina match at WrestleMania, I don't see it happening at all.
and I know you can never say never in wrestling,
but I think that when it comes to this,
December 13th,
when John Sina loses that match,
because I truly think he will do
what people usually do
when they're ending their career,
they're making somebody else look good.
When John Sina loses that match,
that's it.
I think that's it.
There's going to be no more.

dying to know, brother. Read that in a Hulk Hogan accent, please. We're all dying to know,
brother. How was the smashing machine? So I gave my full review a few weeks ago on Ask CVV. Was that
101, I think it was. Was that, that, that was Ask CVV. I was Ask CVV 100, the century edition.
I gave my full review on there, but if you didn't hear that one, I am happy to chat about it again.
I saw the smash machine for a second time on Monday this week.
I saw it at the Los Angeles premiere.
I took my beautiful wife, Rachel Van Vleet, RVV, to the premiere of the movie.
And I saw quite a few things the second time around that maybe I didn't notice the first
time or maybe I had a chance to appreciate more the second time around.
The Rock absolutely disappears into this character.
This is by far the best performance of the Rock's career.
Easily, hands down.
I personally think his best performance before this was ballers.
I think that that maybe you're only familiar with the Rock's movies,
and maybe you haven't seen his work in Ballers,
but I feel like that performance is like so slept on.
But he like completely transforms himself into Mark Kerr.
Not just with a lot of people talking about how much size he put on for this.
Yes, for sure.
He is massive.
This is the biggest rock we've ever seen, like,
capped deltoids, massive traps, like huge, huge.
But he transforms himself in the way he talks.
Like he has the cadence that Mark Kerr speaks like.
And if you listen to the episode yesterday, you know what I'm talking about.
He has a little bit of like a Midwest accent being from Ohio.
There's like little parts of the movie like where the rock as Mark Kerr is talking about
Japan.
And the way he even says Japan, he said Japan, like he has this little accent.
there. I'm like, oh, man. So it's the way he's transformed himself with the voice.
The way he walks like Mark Kerr, like, and just there's certain way that Mark Kerr moves his
feet. You don't see the rock when he's walking and he's talking. And the thing that really
blew me away was he has somehow nailed Mark Kerr's smile. Like Mark Kerr has this very distinct
way that he smiles. And when the rock is coming down,
the aisle way for the fights in the movie. He's like putting his hands in the air,
acknowledging the audience, and he's smiling to them. And like, it's not the Rock's smile.
It's not the Rock's red carpet, Hollywood smile that we're so used to seeing. It is Mark Kerr's
smile. And the way that he has just nailed that. And then the performance, like the way that
he plays off of Emily Blunt, who's amazing in this movie, she plays Mark Kerr's, who was his real
life girlfriend in the movie, Dawn, the way they play off of each other in this like relationship,
that is so hot and cold and toxic at moments.
It's amazing, both of them.
Just such incredible work.
The movie has a ton of heart.
It is so emotional.
It takes you on this roller coaster of emotions
and just at its core tells this great story.
And I don't know what the competition is going to look like.
Everyone keeps saying, is Rock going to get nominated for an Oscar for this?
I don't know. I don't have the luxury of voting on the Oscars. I do have the luxury, though,
voting for the Critics' Choice Awards. And I can tell you that as of right now, he is a strong contender.
Again, I don't know what the competition is. I haven't seen all of the films that would be up for
awards contention. There's still a few months left in the year. I think outside of the acting categories,
I think that this movie is going to be considered for things like cinematography, editing, definitely
hair and makeup. There's a new category this year for stunts. And while I'm pretty sure that Mission
Impossible is going to win that and Tom Cruise will win an Oscar with that, which I mean,
I don't know why they didn't have a stunt category decades ago. And then Tom Cruise would have like
probably 14 Emmys or sorry, 14 Oscars as a result of that. I think that this could get nominated
in that category because these fight sequences just feel so real. Like,
This isn't like a superhero movie where you're like these big like wind up punches and like,
yeah, you can tell the person's not even coming close when they hit them.
Like there's there's sequences here where like Rock is like kneeing his opponent in the face.
Both times I saw this.
I'm like, how did they pull that off?
Like really, really good.
And it made me want to go back and rewatch the Smashy Machine documentary again because
so much of this, some of them even shot for shot,
it's tied right into that documentary,
which inspired Benny Safdi to write and direct this film.
That's the director of the movie.
But I love the movie.
If you see it this weekend,
leave a comment and let me know what you thought of it.
And that leads us right in here to another question
related to smash a machine.
Sean Radigan on Facebook says,
Ask CVV number 101.3, the title rhyme.
edition.
I probably should have said that.
Good one, Sean.
Hey, CVV, how was the premiere
of the smash machine that you attended?
Looks like you and RVV had a great time.
Does this mean that you are closer
to that interview with the Rock?
Thanks, as always, for the great content.
Ah, man, I wish I could say
that this got me one step closer
to an interview with The Rock.
But I think that we're,
we haven't taken any steps.
I don't think we're one step closer
and I don't think we're one step further away.
think we are in the exact same spot that we were before we attended this premiere on Monday.
But I did have a chance to chat with The Rock on Monday.
And I know they say you shouldn't meet your heroes.
But if your hero is Dwayne Johnson, you should do whatever you can to try to meet him.
He was obviously mobbed at the after party.
Like everybody wanted just a few minutes of his time to talk about the movie or just to say hello.
So I had a chance to, you know, kind of hung out by where he was at this after party and finally
had the chance to say hello.
And I couldn't even say hello to him first.
He looked at me and said, hey, Chris, how's the kid?
Because the last time I saw him was the Black Adam press tour when I did the interview
with him.
And I told him that I was about to become a father for the first time.
And he gave me that great advice.
So like the fact that he remembered that, that was three years ago.
It was three years ago like this month.
So the fact that he remembered that.
And I said, ah, it's two kids now.
And he goes, two.
I said, yeah.
And I'd love for you to meet my wife.
This is Rachel.
So then Rachel had a chance to say hello.
And then we chatted for a little bit.
And he looked me in the eye and he said, hey, man, I want to thank you for everything you do for
our business, for the wrestling business.
Thank you for all the interviews you do with the guys and the girls.
allowing them to tell their story.
I said, oh, man, thank you so much.
And look, I'd love to have you on the show
for a real interview sometime.
I want to talk, like, I want a deep dive
into your wrestling career.
And he's like, oh, come on, man,
you don't want to talk to me.
We've known each other too long.
I've said, that's exactly why I need to talk to you.
And he just kind of made a joke about it,
but like, I planted the seed.
But like I said, I don't think we're one step closer
or one step further away.
We took a photo.
And then he went back to just chatting with everybody.
But the fact that, like, there were all these people around just trying to, like,
just trying to get a minute of his time.
He is so present in that moment.
Like, when he's talking to you, he's talking to you.
And there's a thing that often happens in Hollywood where when you're talking to somebody
at a party or you're talking to somebody in an event, they're constantly kind of always
like looking over your shoulder, like reading the room, like looking around for,
like, who's the next person I should speak with? Or is there someone more important that I should
be talking to at the moment? Like, it's just a weird thing that seems to happen in Hollywood.
But when you're talking to The Rock, he is right there. He is present. He is in that moment.
And there is nobody else he would rather be speaking with than you in that moment. And it wasn't
just me. And it wasn't just my good buddy, B.D. Brandon Davis, because he was next to me as this was
happening. It was every single person he interacted with, whether it was for 30,
or it was for five minutes. It was just so cool to see. And I know that he's going to be doing a lot
of publicity and a lot of these different types of events as he's like full on an award season mode here.
Like award season kicks off in like two and a half-ish months. You know, Critics Choice Awards.
And then you've got, this is definitely not an order, but you've got Golden Globes. You've got
the SAG Awards, you've got all of this. And then it finally will wrap up with the Oscars in March,
March 15th, to be exact. The Rock's going to be doing a lot of these different things. And I just
commend him so much for just being the person that he is and like being so present in those
moments. But I have my fingers crossed that an interview will happen at some point in time.
I was trying really, really, really hard to make one happen for Smasher Machine.
And they said that his schedule was just packed.
But they said, but if you're interested, Mark Kerr's available.
And I said, heck yes.
So that was the episode that we saw yesterday.
But let's see.
One day, I think there's a chance here between now, which is episode number 821.
And episode 1,000, who knows?
Just put it out into the world.
It would be amazing if that could happen.
Maddie 305 on Instagram says,
Dear CVV, hope you and your family are doing well.
Well, I hope you and your family are doing well as well, Matt.
What are your personal thoughts on WWE potentially missing the boat
on having RIA in a title match in her home country?
As a fellow Aussie, I'm disappointed to say the least.
I know it was your prediction in recent months.
I would also love to hear your take on it this week on AskCTVV number 103.
And if this is a mistake by WWE, thanks.
All the best, sir, Matt.
Look, I'm with you.
I'm a little shocked that Ria Ripley is not fighting for the WWE championship or the world championship.
But I get that this is crown jewel.
And I understand that under the new crown jewel championship rules, it's champion versus champion.
at Crown Jewel, like for the gigantic, way too large Crown Jewel championship.
So in order for Ria Ripley to be fighting for a championship at Crown Jewel,
she would have had to have won one in previous weeks, which I'm not saying isn't possible.
In fact, I thought I proposed a really nice scenario a little while ago where it would be
a fatal four-way match with, for the vacant WWE,
Women's World Championship.
Put Ria Ripley in there.
Put Stephanie Vakar in there, E.O. Sky and whoever else you want for that fourth spot.
And I think that you could have had Ria Ripley win it there to then at least have this match
so that she's now a focal point, whether it's the main event or the co-main event happening
at Crown Jewel.
But I get that because of the Crown Jewel rules, I'm not even trying to make that rhyme,
but because of the Crown Jewel rules, she can't just.
be a contender for the championship. There are no world title matches that are going to be happening.
These are, essentially, these are like exhibition matches. Like, it's cool that we're going to get
champion versus champion, but like, what does it mean? And the answer to that is nothing.
Like, within the scope of the storylines, it doesn't matter. At least in the immediate future,
It doesn't matter if Stephanie Vacare wins or Tiffany Stratton wins.
It doesn't matter if Seth Rollins finally gets a victory over Cody Rhodes or not, at least right now.
I'm sure that will be played into, especially with Cody and Seth down the line.
I don't think that their rivalry is done.
I think that that will, I'm thinking Seth Rollins will pull off a win here with the help of his cronies in the vision.
But I don't think it plays into storylines right.
right now. So then it just kind of makes you go, well, what are we doing? Like, is this just to win the
oversized championship? Is that it? Because we've got those two matches, champion versus champion
times two. And then we've got Ria Ripley's in a match. And this is going to be one heck of a match.
If we're looking at the card right now, this has the potential to be the best match of the night.
it's Ria Ripley and E.O. Sky in a tag team match against the Kabuki Warriors.
It's going to be a hell of a match. But what's the payoff here? And like I just, I'm trying to
trying to figure that out. And I can't see that being the main event. I would guess that the main
event's going to be John Cena versus AJ Stiles. Or maybe it's Cody Rhodes versus Seth Rawlins.
But I'm with you. Matt and I don't live in Australia. I visited it. It's,
beautiful. I would love to come back. I was thinking and hoping and planning to make the flight to Perth,
to be there for Crown Jewel. I guess I'll officially say now that it's not happening. I'm hanging out
the kids all weekend, which I'm pumped about. Rachel is going to be visiting some friends.
So it's going to be me and Logan and Cooper holding it down, watching Crown Jewel in the middle of the day.
But I'm with you. Ria Ripley should the focus of this.
PLE should be around Rio Ripley.
Like the biggest
WWE star from Australia
at the moment in Australia,
I just don't get it. And then also as we look at this card
right now, where's Bronson Reed's match?
How does Bronson Reed not have
any sort of match? And like, I know that we've
still got a week to go here before Crown Jewel,
but come on. Give Bronson
read something. It needs to happen there. I'm with you, Matt. R-Taylor underscore,
the three R's, Taylor on Instagram. Hey, CVV, with all of the TNA and NXT stuff that's going on,
why haven't we seen Nick Nemith yet? It's got to happen soon, right? So, spoiler alert. Nick
it's going to be on the show next Thursday. We recorded it earlier this week, and I asked him,
pretty much that question.
And it's perfect timing for this interview
because Bound for Glory is next Sunday,
October 12th. Again, what a weekend.
If you're a wrestling fan,
you got Crown Jewel on Saturday.
You've got Bound for Glory on Sunday.
We're getting the Hardys versus the Dudleys
one last time in a tables match
for the TNA World Tag Team Championships.
We're getting Trick Williams
versus Mike Santana for the TNA World title.
and I think it's finally going to be Santana's time.
The guy looks like a champ.
He talks like a champ.
He wrestles like a champ.
It is Mike Santana's time.
So I think Mike Santana walks out of bound for glory with that amazing moment.
He becomes the TNA world champion for the first time.
I'm getting emotional.
Just talking about it.
I know how much it'll mean to Mike and his career and to his family as well.
So I basically asked Nick and I said, you know, are we going to see you back in
And he just flat out said, like, there's nothing more for me to do there.
I don't want to be part.
I'm paraphrasing, of course.
And you'll hear his actual answer on Thursday.
But he said, I don't want to be part of this storyline here.
I've already been the world champion in NXT.
The only way that he said he wants to go back to do anything with WW,
WWE or NXT is if there's like really something to that storyline.
If it's him being able to feud with someone where he had like a real history there.
like a Randy Orton, for example, or anyone else that he worked with there.
But he made it clear.
Like, he's not interested in being part of the TNA NXT invasion.
You can hear his full answer on Thursday, but that's kind of the abridged version there.
So don't look for that to happen.
Kieran Harmon on Spotify.
Hey, love the podcast.
I've got a question for Ask CVV number 103.
As someone who has rejoined watching WWE for John Cena's retirement tour,
what happened to there being eight to 12 matches on a cart?
Has the WWE lost the ability to create stories in 10-minute matches,
and it feels like they need to be 30 minutes plus?
Some of the best matches of all time are 10 minutes long.
Curious for your opinion, as I think more matches would allow for so many more future stars
to gain momentum.
Keep on, keeping on, Kieran.
I agree with you that matches don't need to be 30 minutes to tell a great story.
And we had a great discussion when Santi was on on the show earlier this week where he said,
like his favorite match to show non-ristling fans is that opening match at SummerSlam,
Kurt Angle versus Ray Mysterio, which I think is the greatest SummerSlam opener of all time.
It's like an eight-minute match.
Actually, I want to look up to see the exact length of that match because I think we both said like
around eight minutes, but what's the exact length of that match?
Nine minutes and 19 seconds, and what a masterpiece that match is.
If you haven't rewashed it recently, SummerSlam 2002, put it on this weekend before or after
Crown Jewel, before or after Bound for Glory, I guess that's next weekend.
Put it on this weekend in preparation for Crown Jewel and Bound for Glory.
What a match.
So I'm with you.
I don't think you need 30 minutes to tell a story.
but I think that we saw way too many paper views that were going like super long.
And the one that really stands out for me was WrestleMania 35.
It was so long, so long.
It was 16 matches, which included the pre-show, four matches on the pre-show,
four matches on the pre-show, 12 matches on the main card.
It was so long.
And that was the last ever, like one night, wrestling.
I think there was a big lesson learned there.
Obviously, they didn't really have control over what happened at
WrestleMania 36 with the pandemic and doing WrestleMania 36 the way they did at the PC.
But I'm a big fan of these five to six match paper views.
And I just like that you have the time to tell a story.
You don't have to cut entrances.
You don't have to cut matches.
That was a really big thing that happened in these papers.
reviews that had eight, nine, 10, 12, 16 matches is you'd have entrances get cut.
Like, you know how heartbreaking it must be to have your WrestleMania entrance get cut?
Or for your WrestleMania match to get cut?
Like, I think that that's one of the best things that has come out of this era of the
five to six matches on a pay-per-view card is we're not getting matches cut anymore.
like if it is landing on a pay-per-view, there's like there's a reason for it. Like there's a build-up to it for the most part. There's definitely been a lot of exceptions to that rule recently. But I wouldn't mind that like if we can continue to keep these tight. If the if we can continue to keep the PLEs like three to four hours tight, then I think that maybe you sneak in one or two more matches and then you've,
you now got the ability to give two to four to six to eight more people a chance to be on a
PLE, whether we're talking about triple threat matches, four way matches, tag team matches,
whatever the case may be. Because it's funny, well, I was a PLE like a few months ago.
And my wife, RVV, was saying, oh, who's going to be there? And I looked at the card and there
were five matches and like one of them was a tag team match. So I was like, I don't even, I'm actually
going to look at what card this was. It was backlash. It was backlash in St. Louis. And I said,
yeah, there's only going to be 12 superstars there. She goes, what are you? There's really, it's only
going to be 12? I said, yeah. There's four people in the four way match. Jacob Faw 2, L.A. Knight. Yeah.
Damien Pryst and Drew McIntyre. Then you've got Lara Valcuria, Becky Lynch, Dominic Mysterio,
Pentah, Gunther, Pat McAfee, John Cena, Randy Orton. There's only 12 people there. And it was like,
yeah like when you're talking about a money in the bank a rustlemania royal rumble like they've got an
entire hotel full of superstars and with this one it's like you've got 12 that's it 12 people
that are there and i think that like you've you've got the opportunity with something like that
to give two four six eight more people a chance but i think it would have to come though at the cost
of like the matches being a little bit tighter.
Although when you look at this one,
I just happen to have backlash pulled up in front of me here.
The four-way match went 18 minutes.
The Intercontinental Women's match went 19.
Dom versus Pence at 10,
Goonther versus Pat McAfee, 14,
and then Sina versus Orton went almost 30.
Yeah, I guess everybody's getting,
other than the main event,
everybody's getting 15 to 20-ish minutes,
although Don versus Penta went about 10, there's a possibility here.
But I think that the last thing you want to do is have more than one or two or three bad matches.
Like when you've got a card that's eight, 10, 12, 16 matches, you've got the opportunity now for more good matches.
Sure, but you've also got the opportunity now for more bad matches.
And I think that there just seems to be this feeling that if there's a bad match followed by a bad match, people will often go, oh, this entire card sucks.
Man, this thing sucks, especially if one of those bad matches happens to be the main event.
I think we learned at WrestleMania 41 that the way that you leave, the taste that is left in your mouth as you leave the stadium will often be the taste that reflects the entire meal.
if you see where I'm going with this analogy here.
Like even if you liked five or six of those matches before,
four or five of those matches before,
the final match doesn't live up to your expectations.
And that's a huge thing in wrestling.
It's are your expectations met?
And if they're not,
and it happens to be the main event,
especially if there's a big buildup to it,
you're going to go, oh, man, this sucked.
Or I was expecting the return of so-and-so,
and they didn't return.
Man, the wrestling was good,
but because that person didn't return, this paper view is a C for me or a C minus.
I get it.
But I'm good with, I'm good with the less.
I'm good with, I'm good with five-ish.
I'm, you know, I don't even care how many matches there are.
I'm good with a three-and-a-half-hour-ish, three-to-four-ish-hour PLE.L.
That's, I think, the sweet spot for me.

on Instagram says,
Hey, bud, here's my question for Ask CVV 103.
I know if you've said that it wouldn't work out for Edge to return to
WWE for a singles match against SENA because of wrestling reasons.
But do you remember when Chris Jericho was a guest on Stone Cold's podcast while being with
AEW?
I think there might be a chance for this one-off match if they could work it out if
Cope slash Edge is AEW bound, especially considering the Sina matches wouldn't need any
build up because of the lack of days left. I see what you're saying here. And I didn't say that
it wouldn't work out for Edge to return to WWE. I said that it's a very, as my voice is getting
higher, very slight possibility. We don't know the terms of Edge's contract. We don't know the end date.
We don't know if there are days, weeks, months, or years left on Edge's contract, Adam Copeland's
contract with AEW. I don't think there is going to be any sort of
talent sharing going on between AEW and WW or WWE and AEW.
I think that you saw Chris Jericho be on Stone Cold's podcast as a kind of a one-off thing
early on in the AEW days. You also saw some WWE stars that were guests on Chris Jericho's
podcast, Talk as Jericho. That came to a screeching halt very quickly. And you can Google this
if you'd like, you can look into it, but Chris Jericho was explicitly told by WWE,
or I guess, WWE talent were told that they couldn't be on his podcast.
So I don't think that this goes both ways.
And I think that people saw Jericho being on Stone Cold's podcast as some sort of like
forbidden door being open, but I don't think that was the case at all.
I think that was just two friends that happened to be catching up.
that was also in 2021.
And look, Jericho was in WWE for almost 20 years.
Like debuted in 99 and then went to AEW in 2019.
There were obviously some breaks in between there and he did other things.
But like there was just a lot of history for Jericho and Austin to catch up on.
And it made for a great episode and it got people talking.
But I just, I don't see it happening.
I don't see any sort of talent exchange happening.
I think if someone shows up on WWE, they're not under contract and vice versa.
If someone shows up in AEW, they are a free agent.
So I think we can continue to speculate on who John Cena's final dates will be against.
Will he even have four more matches after Crown Jewel?
We know that's going to be John Cena versus AJ Stiles, which I'm pumped about.
I would have to think he has a match in Boston.
I don't think he's going out there to just pop the crowd and say hello and give a promo.
I think that'll be a nice impromptu match.
I think the same thing about Madden's Madison Square Garden.
I'm hoping for a one-on-one match at Survivor Series.
And you don't need a lot of build-up to this.
This is John Cena, I think just doing what I thought he was going to do on his entire tour, play his greatest hits.
I think we can continue to speculate about what's going to happen on December 13th,
who his final opponent's going to be.
I think Edge will continue to be in the country.
conversation until another guest is announced or if another guest is not an opponent, I should say,
until an opponent is announced or if opponent is not announced until that opponent's music hits,
I think that Edge will be in the conversation.
But I think there's some other, you know, real possibilities.
And we've talked about them at great length.
But you know what?
You know whose name hasn't really come up at all?
is Roman rains.
Like there's a lot of people going, oh, could it be edge?
Could it be Joe Hendry?
Is he going to have another match with Brock Lesner?
Is there the possibility of Gunther?
Like, Brom Breaker, a lot of names being thrown around.
Could it be the Rock?
And I think the Rock is out of the question now.
Like he seems to be just full on promoting the smashing machine and everything that goes
around with award season style.
I don't think the rock's part of the conversation at all.
I don't think we see the rock in WWE again until it's a bold prediction,
but until at the very earliest WrestleMania 41.
And maybe it's to set up for a possible match at WrestleMania 42.
But I think Roman Raines should be a name that's just rattling around in everyone's brain.
How have we not had a match with John Sina and Roman Raines on the farewell tour?
Hmm. That's one we should be thinking about, I think.
Jester's Box 2010 on Spotify says,
Do you think we'll see Green Shirt Guy in an AEW crowd?
And when do you think John Cena will be inducted into the Hall of Fame?
Green Shirt guy has been at plenty of AEW shows, plenty of them.
He was actually at the first ever dynamite.
He's been at lots of different AEW shows.
he's just a wrestling fan.
I've talked to him many times.
His name is Danny.
I know that online,
I saw something that people think his name is Simon.
His name is not Simon.
His name is Danny.
But he's just a wrestling fan.
And I think that he doesn't matter to him
if it's WWE or AEW.
He loves wrestling.
But if you have a keen eye,
it's not every AEW show,
but if you have a keen eye,
you will see him in that exact same seat that you're used to seeing him at for
WWE shows. He sits in that same seat at AEW shows as well.
On to the John Cena question, when will he be inducted into the Hall of Fame?
I don't see any situation other than him being inducted as the headliner of the class of
2026.
What's the point in waiting?
We know his career's done on December 13th, win, loser draw.
That's it.
his wrestling career is over.
What are you going to do?
Wait an extra year?
Like I think they put him in for sure.
I think it'll be a similar situation to like what we saw with Edge where Edge is forced
to retire.
He's inducted into the Hall of Fame the next year.
I think it's going to be a situation like that.
Who else?
Who else would be the headliner in 2026?
Right?
Like Batista?
Yes.
and Batista has like kind of like he's been he's been announced as a Hall of Famer but not quite
inducted so is Batista Hall of Famer yet?
I think the answer is no, right?
Like because they announced that he would be part of it and then COVID happened and like
the Hall of Fame was all wonky that year.
So he wasn't there for the induction.
See, I guess he hasn't been inducted.
So yes, there are a few names like there's a few big names.
that will headline future classes.
Batista, obviously the Rock,
whenever he decides to officially retire,
he'll be a headliner.
But yeah, I think it's next year.
I think the bigger question is who inducts him.
Who will it be who gives the speech?
Because John Cena is like,
it's almost like an undertaker type of thing
where like, well, who inducted Undertaker?
It was Vince McMahon at that time,
which made a lot of sense.
of such a close relationship.
Undertaker was like almost bigger than WWE itself,
like just bigger than a normal induction ceremony.
And then Undertaker ended up giving like basically a TED talk.
And everyone went, oh, man, he is an excellent speaker.
Wow, that was really good.
He's been hiding this on us the whole time.
I think that that's what we'll see from John Cena.
So who inducts him?
Well, obviously it can't be Vince.
Is it Triple H?
then inducts him? Is it Kurt Angle? And we see a full circle moment. John Sina versus Kurt
Angle was John Sina's first match. Could Kurt Angle come back and induct him? That would make a lot of
sense. Is it Stephanie McMahon? Stephanie McMahon was the one who discovered John Sina had this
incredible freestyling career and freestyling ability and basically saved his WWE career by going,
hey, that thing you're doing at the back of the bus. Could you do that on TV? And John Sina told me
in our last interview that if it wasn't for Stephanie McMahon hearing that,
he probably would have been let go.
And he probably would have gone back home and we wouldn't have the John Sina that we have
now.
This is a lot of different options there, but John Sina, headliner, class of 2026.
I don't see it any other way.
An email from Alex Lopez, who says,
Hi, Chris, real, real one here from Las Vegas, Nevada.
I hope to see you, Alex.
on Thursday, April 16th at Circa Resort and Casino, Inside Live.
I'm a wedding officiant, the minister at Little White Wedding Chapel, which was the site of
the WWE's most infamous moment, or which was the site of one of WWE's most infamous moments
when Triple H married Stephanie McMahon in our drive-thru.
That is amazing that you are the minister at the Little White Wedding Chapel.
I love it.
Maybe me and RVV should renew our values.
there in a convertible. My question to you, what has been your favorite wrestling wedding?
Those ceremonies always seem to go sideways in the wrestling ring, but is there one that actually
stands out for you? Thanks for all you do. And hey, if you and RVV or any of your listeners,
for that matter, want to renew their wedding vows and come down to Vegas during WrestleMania,
come on through the little white wedding chapel. Alejandro Lopez, and then you've got Alex
in brackets there. Man, that's cool. That's so cool. And I, I, I, I,
you can correct me if I'm wrong here, Alex,
but I believe there's a photo, right?
Or you pay some sort of tribute to that wedding, right?
The Triple H and Stephanie drive-thru wedding, right?
I think you pay tribute to that at the little white wedding chapel.
And it's funny when you think about the lore,
there's been a lot of wrestling weddings.
And like you said, most of them do not go well.
Triple H and Stephanie's has like withstood the test of time.
and they've lasted over 25 years.
Congrats to them.
My favorite wrestling wedding is Billy and Chucks.
Because Eric Bischoff is so perfect in that role.
He plays the minister, the officiant, whatever you want to call it.
But he's dressed up in prosthetics with a wig on,
and he's playing this like really old man.
And you cannot tell.
It's Eric Bischoff.
He's like shaking when he talks.
Like his hand is shaking when he's talking and he's doing this old man voice the whole time.
And it's not until near the end of the wedding when he peels off his mask.
And then his voice changes from the old man voice.
And he goes, did I just hear myself say three minutes?
and then three minute warning comes out and lays waste everybody in the ring and it's like just
ends up becoming this like very, very, very cool ruse that Eric Bischoff set everyone up for.
And when Bischoff was on the show a few years ago, he told an amazing story about it that once he
was in the prosthetics, he was walking around backstage and like talking in this voice and
walking like how an old man would walk and nobody knew it was him.
nobody. So like not only did he fool everybody watching, but he fooled everybody backstage as well.
And I think it's just a testament to like how great of a performance Eric Bischoff pulled off with that one.
And also that like that being the culmination of the Billy and Chuck storyline and like the way that it ended there with like Rico is basically the mastermind behind all this. I got to get Rico on the show. Man, that'd be great to dive into everything with him.
And for everybody saying, yeah, Chuck Palombo should be on the show too.
Chuck Palumbo was already on the show.
Go look it up.
He was on the show a few years ago.
And of course, Billy Gunn's been on the show many times.
Love Billy Gun.
Would love to have him back.
But I think that's my favorite one.
And there's so many different ones to choose from.
But I just think that, like, there's so many layers to that one.
That that's why it's my favorite.
Zach Merlington on Facebook says,
how do Japanese and American wrestlers work seamlessly, even though they don't speak the same language?
I guess to quote Stephanie Vakere, wrestling is her first language.
And there's something about a vin backstage at shows where the two competitors don't speak the same language.
But there's something about watching them put together the match where it's like they're literally walking through the match.
And if you've never seen this, it's a beautiful thing to see.
because they'll be like, okay, and then I'll do the, ah, and then you'll do the duck under here,
and then I'll hit you with a, bapa.
And it's like, you don't need to speak English or Spanish or Japanese or whatever the language is
for it to work.
I have seen cases where it's like one of their mutual friends will speak both languages
and they'll translate a little bit if there's like intricacies that need to be explained.
But for those matches, often they're like called out quite a bit.
But like, I think that if you're a Japanese wrestler and you're working with a wrestler that
speaks English or you're a Spanish speaking wrestler and you're wrestling with someone or wrestling
with someone who speaks English, you know a close line.
You know like, you know the words, right?
If you're going to call it in the ring, you know like duck or close line or whatever.
The generic moves are that you're going to call in the ring.
And for the big spots, you've walked through them in the back.
but it's a it's just a cool thing to see like they're hitting their body and they're slapping their
legs and like the really cool thing is watching the reveal when earlier in the day you've watched
them put this all together and then in the ring you go ah that's the thing that's the thing
they were doing in the back so cool an email from Ethan Clifford hey Chris real real one here
from England. First off, I wanted to thank you for your podcast. I've recently started university
and listening to you on the train has greatly helped me to calm down and relax on the journey.
So thank you. Well, I hope you're having a great journey right now, Ethan. But enough of the
backstory, here's my question. What are your thoughts on the recently released PWA 500, specifically
the top 10? Personally, I'm shocked that Okada didn't make it after the amazing year that he's had,
but I wanted to hear your thoughts. Thank you for everything you do.
Ethan. So before we dive into the list, I think there's a few things that need to be pointed out,
need to be talked about, that perhaps people need to be reminded about or informed about if you
don't know it. This is a list that is based solely on KFAB. It is solely based on the characters
and their performances within the year based in storyline and KFAB. And it weighs the following criteria.
Win-loss record.
Championships won.
Quality of competition.
Major feuds.
Prominence within a wrestler's promotion or promotions.
And overall wrestling ability.
And then perhaps this is the most important part about it.
The evaluation period is August 1st, 2024 to July 31st, 2025.
So when I think oftentimes when people see the list, they go, well, how is that person the
top of the list?
the year isn't even over yet or they didn't even do that much here. It's basically half of last year
and half of this year, you know, give or take. But it's August 1st last year to July 31st of this year.
So I think that is important to point that out. So we'll work backwards on the list here.
Number 10. Will Osprey. Nine. Mystico. Eight. Seth Rollins. Seven. Swerve Strickland. Six.
Jay Uso
5
Heroku
Go To
Go To
4
Hangman Adam Page
Three
Gunther
Two John Moxley
Number one
For the second
year in a row
Is Cody Rhodes
I don't know
if I would change
anyone in the top
10
I might maybe change
some orders
here and there
But again
I don't know
if everybody's like
taking into account
like what the actual criteria is here.
Win loss record.
Championships won,
quality of competition,
major feuds,
prominence within a wrestler's promotion,
overall wrestling ability.
Cody Rhodes,
WWE champion for most of that time
that we talked about.
John Moxley,
AEW champion for most of that time
that we talked about.
It makes sense for them to be one and two
with the prominence within
the organizations they worked in.
I think that there's some people like,
How is Jay Uso higher than Seth Rawlins?
When you look at Jay Uso's year and the exact criteria we're just talking about there,
I think it makes sense.
Maybe Will Osprey could be a little bit higher on there.
I would love to see that.
I think that when Will Osprey returns and when Will Osprey finally becomes the AEW world champion,
I think Will Osprey will be top five, top three, maybe number one.
I think that that would make a ton of sense.
but when we're talking about, again, championships one is one of the criteria.
Yeah, it makes sense.
Ocada, like you mentioned, not in the top 10, number 11.
Who's at number 12?
I guess then we're going to play this game, right?
Who else is on the list?
Number 12, Joe Hendry.
Maybe Joe Hendry.
That's a pretty good argument to make.
Joe Henry could be up there.
You could put Joe Hendry in the top 10.
Like, who had a better year as a TNA star?
And then Go Toe, he makes a ton of sense, the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion during a good chunk of that time that we talked about there.
Like, I don't know what else you could change here.
Like, I think this is a solid top 10.
There's no one in the top 10 that I don't think is deserving of being there based on the criteria and within the time that we're speaking about here.
and it should be pointed out that Cody Rhodes is in has rare air here.
Cody Rhodes is part of an exclusive club now that he is back to back number one on the
PWA 500.
He's just the fourth person to do this.
Who are the other three before him?
It would be no surprise when I tell you these names.
Brett Hart, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and John Cena.
I think, sure, you could say maybe Zach Sabre Jr. should be in the top 10, but I, like, again,
I think this is a solid top 10,
Zach Staber Jr. at number 13.
And then we keep going.
Well, then who's at number 14?
Obafem.
Who's at number 15?
C.M. Punk.
And then you could go look at the whole list.
500 names.
I'm not going to read them all.
Okay.
But I think that based on the criteria,
if someone's at four,
but they should be at five,
or if someone's at seven and they should be at nine
or vice versa, nine should be at seven.
I think that that's all subjective.
And that's what wrestling really comes down to is like, it's subjective.
That's basically what these entire Ask CVV episodes are about.
Wrestling is so often subjective of like, who's the best of this era, who's the best right now, or all of that.
It's all just personal opinion.
And I think it's a solid list.
I'm not surprised to see Cody at the top of that at all.
Well, why isn't Roman Raines on the list?
I think it's because he didn't wrestle enough matches.
Why isn't John Sina on the list?
I think again, I think he only wrestled like five matches within that evaluation period.
And PWI says you need to have compete in a minimum of 10 singles matches during the evaluation period.
So for everybody saying, why wasn't Roman Raines on the PWI 500?
There's your answer right there.
On Spotify, Matthew Redhead says, hey, real, real, real one here.
First Englishman ever.
Matthew, thank you for coming to the first ever Insight Live in Indianapolis.
What a blast we had there in January.
I hope you're doing well, mate.
Give me your Mount Rushmore of theme songs with no lyrics or words, please.
Hmm, mine or Ultimate Warrior, Stone Cold, Mr. Perfect, and the big boss man.
Boy, I feel like we should just rename these Ask CVVs to the,
CVV Mount Rushmore.
I love that we have a Mount Rushmore question every single week.
So if you have a Mount Rushmore question for Ask CVV number 104,
leave the comment in the comments of Spotify.
Send it in on social media using that hashtag Ask CVV or shoot me an email.
CVV at Chris Vanley.com.
There are so many to choose from so many.
I'll have some similar answers to you,
but I will also have some that are different.
Stone Cold.
How is Stone Cold?
but not on everybody's list, right? Stone Cold, like iconic. Stone Cold for sure. That will be the first
head on my Mount Rushmore of theme songs with no lyrics. And of course, the disturbed version was
amazing, but I think if we're going the old OG Stone Cold Steve Austin theme song,
it can't be beat. The Undertaker, right? Undertaker's got to be on there. An iconic theme song.
So iconic, in fact, that it's played like outside of the world of wrestling.
And then I think, well, man, so much, again, wrestling is subjective, right?
I'm going to agree with you on Ultimate Warrior.
It's like so high energy and so upbeat and like so fitting for what Ultimate Warrior's character was
and the way that his matches were with him just running out, boom, boom, boom,
quick match, and then he's out of there.
Ultimate Warrior and then I'll give my number four and then I'm going to give some honorable
hat tips and some honorable mentions after that. My number four is Mick Foley. The car crash right
into da-na-na-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da. I love it. I remember
downloading that as an mb3 on my computer or wave file on my computer and listening to it all
the time. So there's my four, but
man, Goldberg,
iconic, JBL?
da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-an.
Alberto del Rio? What a great theme song.
Kurt Angle, I know that was originally the Patriots theme,
but Kurt Angles theme?
Brock Lesnors? And if we're going to go with someone
a little more recent, Shinske Nakamura,
man so good
there's many many many more
with no lyrics but
there's my list
and there may be one or two like others
that are deserving of an honorable mention
but I think my list is pretty darn solid there
and that'll do it for Ask CVV
number 103. That's the final question
for this week. Thank you for sending
those questions in and send your questions in for next week for Ask CVV number one. Oh,
fatal four way. You know what to do. Drop them on Spotify with that word smash.
Send them in on social media using that hashtag AskCTV or shoot me an email. CVV at Chrisvante.com.

The Hammer Alley podcast, an 80s flashback mockumenter.
Back in the 80s, there were a thousand bands trying to make it in the world of rock,
but there was one band that had it all.
Hammer Alley.
Whatever happened to Hammer Alley?
How did they go from top of the rock?
I'm looking for a music video.
They're a band from 1987.
Hammer Alley.
Ever heard of then?
To Rock Bottom.
Dude, I was born in 1987.
I can't believe he's doing this.
