All systems are gathered.
Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Van.
Brilliant.
Hello, my friends, and welcome back to another audio adventure on Insight.
I'm CVV, Chris Van Fleet.
Thank you so much for being with us.
And, I mean, you've heard me say it before.
I will say it again, but I've never met a Chris that I don't like.
And I actually say that during this interview.
We got the one, the only Chris Hemsworth, back on the show for a little mini-view.
a little mini interview here.
His new movie, Extraction 2,
is the number one film on Netflix right now.
And for good reason,
the action in this movie is insane.
There's this one 21-minute,
single-shot action sequence that...
I got to see this in theaters,
and it just blew my mind.
Actually, everyone applauded after the scene was done.
That's how good it is.
So we talk about that.
We talk about just the train.
and the diet and the workout that goes into playing a character like this.
And yes, you saw the title of this episode.
We get a little update about that Hulk Hogan biopic that he has been attached to.
There's this idea, Todd Phillips, the guy who directed The Hangover and the Joker and
who's now currently working on The Joker 2.
He is set to direct this movie about Hulk Hogan's life.
Chris Hemsworth is supposed to be playing Hulk Hogan, but it just feels like this has been
stalled because I asked,
Chris Hemsworth about this almost exactly a year ago last June. And he kind of gave me a very similar
answer about this. But I figured, look, if Chris Hemsworth is sitting in front of me and there is a
Hulk Hogan project that is possibly in the works, I had to get an update on this. So if you
enjoy this episode, please share this with a fellow Chris Hemsworth fan or just a fellow Chris fan in
general. And take a screenshot and tag us. He's at Chris Hemsworth. I'm at Chris Famsworth. I'm at Chris
fan Vleet. And when this is done, trust me, if you haven't seen it yet, extraction two, so, so good.
We're also sitting down with the director of both extraction and extraction to Sam Hargrave during this
conversation. And they've really made magic here. Extraction was the most streamed film on Netflix
when it came out in April of 2020. And I feel like extraction two is that much better of a movie.
I actually said that when this interview was done. I'm like,
I don't know. Is it bad to say that I liked this movie more than the first one?
Like that this movie's better?
And Sam, the director's like, oh, no, please, tell everyone.
Tell everyone that.
So here I am telling everyone that.
So enjoy this conversation.
Ladies and gentlemen, it's the director of extraction to Sam Hargrave and Chris Hemsworth.
I've never met a Chris that I don't like.
It's always good to say the fellow.
It's just signed here.
Sanjo.
Walked me through this 21-minute, one-shot action sequence.
Curious what the script actually says.
The script says at the beginning, the heading was, you know,
and here follows the greatest wonder in cinema history.
So, yeah, literally.
And the other inspiring descriptive words,
such as a sequence to rival old boy,
like that fight in the, in a prison.
So, you know, what Joe did, so I think masterfully
was drop in these kind of challenges for us as filmmakers
to say, like, you know, to just lay the gauntlet down
and say, this is what I think can be done.
And so then it's up to us is creative filmmakers to be like,
all right, well, this is going to be our version of the best we can do at this time
and then see if audience on.
Man.
Chris, when you're going through the fight choreography, when you're hitting your marks,
when you're having to remember to say lines and say like your character would say it,
what's going through your mind in the sequences?
At that point, you want to be intuitive and instinct.
you know you the worst thing is i think walking into a stunt okay i've got to do a punch a kick of this
like you can't it's like you know getting on the field to play football and then try to figure out
okay so how do i throw the ball again and how do i pick the ball um so it's it's preparation
preparation preparation and then we had uh weeks and months of rehearsals um at the end of each shooting
day we'd rehearse again the weekends so yeah exhausting but there's a lot of the i wouldn't say the
Tressions removed, but there's a lot of comfort going in going, I've done everything I could have done.
There's no stone left unturned in this preparation and then switch that off and just let it be
organic.
Yeah, the preparation allows him the space to be in the moment.
And that's when, you know, he does it again, well, you can, it's crazy that you can see it too.
And it would be times where, I mean, not with him, but when you look in the eyes before where you
can see like, are they thinking about the next move or are they in the moment?
It's in the moment where the performance really shines and not counting the moves and
me like, what comes next?
That's where spontaneity happens.
I think that's where those little like, quote, happy accidents.
There's no accident.
It's because he's rehearsed so much that he's free to perform and be present.
And that's where the beauty lies.
There's lots more to get into.
But first, I want to say a big welcome to our new sponsor, Blue Choo.
Yeah, we are on board with Blue Choo, guys.

for a movie like extraction or where you get into the shape to be Thor? I didn't have the strict
side on this. I mean, I generally eat pretty healthy. For four, it's, you know, much
largely calorie intake and it's
the usual sort of high protein
sure a little bit of all the boring stuff
all the boring stuff whereas for this I actually
had that you know and I didn't have a very big
window but to slim down and become
more functional flexible better movement
patterns more martial art training
and and it was freezing
so to be honest
I knew burning so many calories I was just
eating whatever I mean it was generally healthy but
it didn't matter it's just like fuel
fuel yeah fuel so to look like
Chris Hemsworth eat whatever you want
That's twisting his work.
What?
What?
That's twin.
Continue to continue.
What's it like when you're punching people and doing a sequence while your arm is on fire?
That was wild.
You know, there's enough burn liquid on, what we call it burn liquid?
That totally gets the point of course.
On my jacket, by the time that sequence would finish, it should have burnt out.
and the instructions I was given was, if it had to just start patting it out.
But also, it's running up your shoulder and so on, from punches and that flame jump.
It was certainly an added layer of complexity, but I just remember to think,
this looks so cool.
It looks so cool.
I just got to say, I'm still hopeful that you're going to be Hulk Hogan in some point.
Like, let's hope.
Yeah, at a time, yeah.
I don't know what's happening with it at the moment, but.
there's a good story that I love to tell it.
Todd Phillips has been deep in the world of the Joker,
but we've had conversations,
and yeah, fingers crossed.
Thank you so much, brother.
Yeah, I hate that.
Well, there we go.
And the action in extraction two is nonstop.
Didn't mean to make that run,
the action in extraction two.
But it's so good.
Check this out on Netflix.
You won't have to look very far.
It's the number one film.
It's right there on the home screen.
And I don't want to give too much away here.
But I have a pretty good feeling we'll be seeing extraction three at some point, you know,
not too long from now. But it's so cool to be able to sit down with Sam Hargrave and Chris
Hemsworth, you know, even if it's a short interview, even if it's a mini interview,
we're spending time here with Chris Hemsworth. If you want to check out the video version of
that, that's on my YouTube channel. And if you follow me on Twitter or on Instagram,
I've been talking about putting something together for fellow podcasters, fellow
creators, fellow YouTubers, where we can help grow and also monetize your channels.
A lot of people that are making content and they've never made a cent on this.
So I would love to be able to help you in building something out with my good friend,
Travis Chappell, who is an absolute killer when it comes to making great content.
So if you follow me on Instagram or on Twitter, I posted a survey on there.

I'll put it in the show notes as well.
I would just love to hear your feedback.

And I would love to blow this up together with you.
All right, before we go,
I'll leave you with these words of wisdom from Edith Warden.
There are two ways of spreading light.
You can be the candle or you can be the mirror that reflects it.
Be great.
Be grateful.
Have an amazing weekend.
The next episode is L.A.

Why?
Because I have a job to do.

So I don't want to hear from you lava pigs on this notion today.
No idea what you're talking about.
You're complaining more than you like to breathe air.
It's like you get up in the morning only to complain and cry and moan on social media
about things that you don't even understand.
He's the spitfire of sports smack.
Take advantage of it, but get up in here.
