All systems are going.
Ladies and gentlemen, Chris.
There we go.
Welcome back to another audio adventure here on Insight.
I'm CVV, Chris Van Fleet, and let me tell you,
when you get into a room with people as talented as Jamie Fox and Dave Franco,
it makes you realize they're operating on a whole other level.
It's just so effortless what they do.
I mean, there's a point during this interview where Jamie Fox just turns on his Donald Trump impression,
and if he wasn't sitting right in front of me
and I saw the words coming out of his mouth,
I would have sworn that this was some sort of recording.
So good.
Their new movie called DayShift is out now on Netflix.
Beginning today, it's a comedy with a ton of action
because, well, the story here is that Jamie Fox is a vampire hunter.
And he needs to hunt some vampires in order to make enough money
so that his wife and his kid don't move away.
And I know there's always this moment when you turn on Netflix and you serve around for like 20 minutes because you don't know what you want to watch.
I mean, it's the paradox of choice.
There's just there's so many options.
But here you go.
That's not going to happen to you this weekend because you're going to turn this on.
You're going to see day shift right there.
You're going to hit play.
Boom.
Done.
You're going to love it.
And take a photo of your TV as you stream the movie.
Tag me.
Let me know what you thought of this.
Snoop Dog is also in the movie.
By the way, we talk about him during this interview.
he's fantastic in this so let's get to it it's me and the supremely talented dave franco and jami
fox you guys crushed it with this movie i'm watching this movie the whole time i'm thinking
i think jamy fox might be a vampire because you do not age oh yeah yeah that's a good one you know what can
i reveal it oh no it was about to happen no no it's no you know what i'm gonna
tell you something that's interesting about what I notice about our business in the arts.
And you look at a lot of people that have been just doing this, there's something useful
about it. There's something where we never grow up in our minds. And I think that sort of takes
over our body a little bit because it's just, you know, I don't feel it. I know that I'm
the age and I'm mad, but I just feel. And then hanging, you know, with young guys, man, keep you
keep you on point, keep you on your toes, you know. With Snoop Dog in this movie, what's
a go-to Snoop song for you guys.
Murder was a case.
Well, that was so quick.
Murder was a case.
Murders was the case because we even put it in the, he let us, allowed us to use it in
the thing.
Yeah.
We had a, boom, yeah.
It was like, oh, murder was the case.
What is it for you, Dave?
Honestly, everything on the chronic grade.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
So good.
What do you got?
You got a Snoop song?
I'm going to go with gin and juice.
Classic.
Right.
Rolling his out of the street.
So good.
How do you balance the action and the comedy here
and make both of them so good?
Stop, man.
Stop, bro.
This guy from the very beginning.
So I remember we were shooting kind of an intense scene
one of the very first days.
And, you know, I'm like, I'm getting in it.
I'm trying to be like, okay, this is a more intense scene.
And he just kind of reminded me and kind of set the tone
for the rest of the shoot where he was like, all right,
let's have real weight to this scene.
Let's let it be intense.
but also, I think we can infuse a little comedy.
Let's like, you know, let's do that wherever we can
because that's what's going to just add that extra layer.
And so truly, you know, every scene, our director, JJ, he let us play.
You let us have fun and just go off book and say whatever we wanted.
And when you're working with this guy, it's just, it's easy.
And we were just flying.
And he's being very modest.
I watched a guy named Robin Williams' work.
I watched him work in the same fashion where he would show up and he would have a bag of, like,
all of these different things he wanted to try.
and he killed it.
And I think that's what makes the movie jump.
And I said, I said to JJ, I said,
if Dave Franco's not in the movie,
I don't want to do the movie.
I said, because, one, I've been trying to get to do,
I've been trying to work with it to do it for a long time
because I think he got something really special
and I'm glad people are getting the chance to see it.
And we've been watching everything,
but to see this is really good.
Well, Jamie, your character goes on this like adventure here.
Actually, both your characters have something
that on the other side of this, their life,
their career will change.
For you guys, what's the role that changed your life?
Interesting.
Any given Sunday.
Oh, yeah?
Yeah, because I was trying to do comedy movies.
And every movie that I did, it either looked like a Martin Lawrence movie or sounded
like an Eddie Murphy pitch.
And I was just like, hey.
And so Oliver Stone, who wasn't really familiar with me as far as the comedy, he just said,
I need a guy to play this quarterback.
And I said, well, I played quarterback in high school.
And then that that changed the trajectory of my art.
Yeah.
Because it went from being just trying to find a joke to having some, you know,
collateral.
It's so good.
Oh, man.
That's another thing.
And that was with Michael Mann, Tom Cruise.
And that was a moment where that character got a chance to have the most incredible
art.
Yeah.
And then to be, you know, nominated of, of,
Ford, it was just crazy.
I love, though, that so many of your movies, like, you know,
grew up playing football.
It gets to be in any given Sunday with Django.
You know, you grew up riding horses.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know, obviously grew up doing music and something able to infuse that in all your role.
It's amazing.
So what's the role for you, Dave?
The thing that probably set me on a little bit of a different trajectory is maybe 21 Jump Street
where, you know, that movie I really fought for.
I went in probably like seven times for that movie.
And leading up to that, you know, I had been working on stuff,
but I wasn't like fully proud of it.
I got to the point with some things where I was like telling my friends and family,
like, don't go see this thing.
So I started making like little comedy videos with just one of my best friends.
And we started putting it on the website funnier die.com.
And so even though they were on a much smaller scale,
it felt like an accurate representation of my sense of humor.
And then the 21 Jump Street director is Lord Miller.
they actually told me, like, after seven auditions,
like part of the reason I finally got the job
is because they saw these tiny little videos I did,
and they were like, oh, this guy understands humor, yeah.

And now we're giving people an inside look at the World Cup.
Time's ticking.
I think you can feel the intensity.
All the guys are wanting to really take their claim,
and they want to be on that World Cup roster.
There's no doubt about it.
Hosting the World Cup on the Home Soil comes with.
with its pressures, but we're just really excited just as the people are.

Jamie does so many amazing impressions.
What's your go-to impression?
I'm not. I'm not. Don't make me do that next to this guy.
Let's see, Jamie. What do you got for us? What do you got for us?
I've been working on my truck.
It's a lot of great people. That's a great people on both sides.
Excuse me. Excuse me. Fake reviews.
Fake reviews.
Fake reviews.
Is yours just doing the De Niro face?

Dave Franco's De Niro face.
Very good.
Very good.
DayShip is streaming now on Netflix.
Huge thank you to Jamie and Dave for joining us for this conversation, this mini
interview, mini view, as I've been calling it.
I mean, five minutes with Jamie Fox and Dave Franco is a heck of a lot better than zero
minutes with them.
So I hope you enjoyed this.
I just love to hear that story about how much any given Sunday changed Jamie Fox's life.
And then Dave's story about it.
going in and reading for 21 Jump Street over and over and over again.
And then finally, him doing something completely different, making his own videos, is what got him the role.
I sat across from them just thinking, this is a lot of talent.
And I think that this quote from Joel Brown sums it up really well.
The only thing that stands between you and your dream is the will to try and the belief that it's actually possible.
And I think that when we can see people that are doing those things, it makes us go,
if they can do it, that means I can do it too.
Be great, be grateful.
Have a great weekend.
Enjoy day shift.
We will see you on the next one for some more insight.
Jim Rome takes on sports.
Why?
Because I have a job to do.
With rapid fire takes.
So I don't want to hear from you lava pigs on this notion today.
No idea what you're talking about.
You're complaining.
more than you like to breathe air.
It's like you get up in the morning only to complain and cry and moan on social media
about things that you don't even understand.
He's the spitfire of sports smack.
Take advantage of it, but get up in here.
