All systems are gathered.
Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Van Blurley.
Oh, how are you, my friends?
Welcome back to another one here on Insight.
It's CVV, Chris Van Fleet.
Hope you're doing well.
Hope you had a great weekend.
Hope you're as excited about this episode as I am
because we've got two of the biggest stars on the planet.
Sitting down with us on Insight,
Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
They've got a big movie.
coming out next weekend, July 21st, I'm sure you've heard a lot about this.
Yeah, Barbie hits theaters next weekend.
And we're talking all about that.
And also one of the other biggest stars on the planet,
certainly one of the biggest stars in the pro wrestling world.
John Sina makes a surprise cameo in this movie.
And I'm watching this.
It's like during one of the singing and dancing scenes.
And I'm like, is that John Sina as a merman?
And I'm like, oh, it is.
It is.
And yes, bear with me here.
For those few seconds in the movie, I was actually able to see John Sina.
I know.
I know.
It's crazy.
But yes, this is one of the most anticipated movies of the summer.
And in my opinion, I really think there were like three huge most anticipated movies
of the summer.
We talked about Mission Impossible, Dead Racketing Part 1 on the last Ask CVV episode.
And I liked it.
I liked it a lot.
I just didn't love it.
It's good.
It's really good.
But I just felt like the story and the plot was just not as strong as some of the other
Mission Impossible movies.
And when you see this, you'll know what I'm talking about.
The main storyline, without giving too much away, is around AI.
And it's just a little bit far-fetched at some points in time.
But it's made up for by the fact that they have these unbelievable stunts.
I'm sure you've seen Tom Cruise riding the motorcycle off the cliff.
That is mind blowing, but there's also this fight sequence on top of a train, like an actual train.
No CGI here, but a fight sequence on top of the train that is so, so good.
And the car chases are really good too, but all these set pieces together make the movie so freaking entertainment.
The two hours and 43 minutes just fly by.
The other most anticipated movie of the year is Oppenheimer.
The new Christopher Nolan movie, that comes out on July 21st.
he's my favorite director. I mean, come on. Inception, Interstellar, Tenon, Dunkirk, I feel like I'm just listing all
those films now. I mean, how good is the prestige? Of course, the Dark Night, Dark Night, Dark Night Rises,
Batman begins the whole Dark Night series. And I remember studying Memento in film studies. And the other
most anticipated movie of the summer is the one we're talking about today. There is so much buzz
around Barbie. We've got Margot Robbie, who plays Barbie, Ryan Gosling, my fellow Canadian,
who plays Ken, and I've talked with both of them many times before. Margo for Suicide Squad,
a movie called Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, and also Babylon at the end of last year. I talked to Ryan
for La La Land and First Man, but I've never talked to them together. So it was so good to be able
to sit down with them, even if it's a mini interview like this. I mean, you've got however many minutes
this interview ends up being with Margo Ravi and Ryan Gosling, two of the nicest and most talented
people in Hollywood.
And look, I know that when you hear Barbie, you have a certain expectation in your mind, a certain
idea in your mind, I will tell you, without giving too much away, this movie is very different
than what you might expect.
There's times where it's super fun.
There's also times where it's a little dark.
And Margot talks about here how like Barbie is kind of a reflection of who we are.
and this strange existential crisis.
She says it much better than me.
You'll see what I mean.
So let's get into it.
Ladies and gentlemen, Margo Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
Hey, Chris.
How you guys?
Good to see you again.
How's everything?
Good.
Can we offer you sunglasses?
This is amazing.
And then also a Barbie swoon.
What?
We got swag.
Is it delicious?
Apparently.
Can I try it?
Please.
I mean, is it Barbie related?
Zero sugar?
Wow.
That's pretty great.
Wow, thank you for the gifts.
Can I put it down here for now?
Yeah, please.
Amazing.
John Sina was such a lovely surprise in this film as a cameo.
I feel like you had something to do with this.
I did.
It was actually a fatuitous, yeah, it happened.
While we were shooting in London, I ran into him at a restaurant, and we'd work together
before, and I was like, actually, I ran into him because I went to pay the bill, and they were
like, John Sina already took care of it.
And I was like, what?
Where is he?
I mean, he's a big guy.
Because I couldn't see him.
But I was like, he's hard to hide.
Anyways, I found it.
And I was like, what are you doing here?
He's like, I'm shooting.
He was shooting at least in where we shot the film as well.
And I was like, that's where we're shooting Bobby.
And I was like, do you want to come be a manman in Barbie?
And he was like, yeah.
And I was like, surely he's not going to agree to it just like that.
And he did.
Oh, man.
But he's so awesome like that.
Yeah, he's amazing.
So much of the movie is about the expectations that people put on you.
And when you get cast as Ken and you get cast as Barbie,
there's some big expectations that are put on you guys.
Do you feel that from the moment you get cast?
I guess I was on board for so long
because I was developing the project for a couple of years
before that moment happened.
So I guess it crept up on me as opposed to like,
oh my God, I'm going to play Barbie now.
But what about feeling?
Yeah, I still feel it, especially now that you just brought it up.
I had like a weird five-minute window
I wasn't thinking about it, but now I am.
When those first photos of you guys rollerblading on Venice Beach came out,
I think that's when it's like, oh, look at this.
This is like this feels real now.
Yeah, that was a crazy day.
Yeah, because we'd been shooting everything in London and studio,
and that was our first venture into the real world,
both in the movie and for the film.
So the reaction was massive and, yeah, fun.
Brian, what's the most Barbie thing that Barbie does?
I don't know.
Just be awesome and all the time, forever.
Time is infinity.
Margo, what's the most Ken thing that Ken does?
Gives answers like that.
Beach.
He's always there to support Barbie in and bigger up and, you know.
It's a great job.
Everyone needs a Ken in their life.
Ken needs a Ken.
Ken needs a Ken.
I'm going to custody to Ken's got Alan.
Ken's got Alan. Ken forgets about Alan a lot, considering how dedicated Alan is.
We all have worked.
We're all guilty of.
Yeah, we all of Ken's clothes fit Allen too.
So it's great.

And now we're giving people an inside look at the World Cup.
Time's ticking.
I think you can feel the intensity.
All the guys are wanting to really take their claim,
and they want to be on that World Cup roster.
There's no doubt about it.
Hosting the World Cup on the home soil comes with its pressures,
but we're just really excited just as the people are.

So much of this is not just about figuring out who Barbie is,
but also what Barbie is.
How did you figure that out?
Other roles, you know, you can figure out,
you can, like, shadow someone
and figure out how they do their job.
job. You can't shadow Barbie. Well, Bobby's been around for 64 years. So actually, the research is
kind of straightforward in the regard that you can look at the brand and how it's evolved over
the years and how people reacted to Barbie when she was first invented as to how they react to her
now, how they reacted in the 90s. It's pretty fascinating. And I think when you're asking yourself,
what is Barbie like? You are kind of asking, well, what do we like based on how we react to
Barbie.
And she's been a complicated, iconic figure over the years.
So there's a lot, I think, to unpack about humanity and society, not to get too deep.
But you start, this is what it's like on the Bali movie.
You start with a really simple question like, what's Bobby like?
And then you end up having really deep existential conversations.
That's really what this movie is all about.
It is.
Well, cheers.
Yeah, cheers.
Thank you guys so much.
You have one. To Barbie. To Barby.
Cheers.
My Kenz.
Mackens.
Thank you.
I'm a fellow Canadian, by the way.
Canadian.
Yeah, you're Canadian.
Canadian.
I like how he threw that at the end.
I could tell.
Do you think he was just being nice?
I could tell it.
You're Kenadian.
Marga Robbie and Ryan Gosling, ladies and gentlemen,
Barbie opens on July 21st.
They're awesome.
And yeah, that drink that I was drinking there is pretty delicious.
You can see what I'm talking.
talking about the video is up on my YouTube channel, or you can just see the video. It's on
podcast.crisfanfleet.com. You can see that in all the other episodes that we've had here.
So go check that out when it comes out on July 21st. I'll leave you with the words of
Ralph Waldo Emerson. I love this quote. The only person you are destined to become is the person
you decide to be. That is very applicable to what goes on in Barbie and just so applicable.
for your life. Go out, be great, be grateful. We will see you on the next one for some more insight.

Whatever happened to Hammer Alley? How did they go from top of the rock? I'm looking for a music
video. They're a band from 1987, Hammer Alley. Ever heard of them? To Rock.
Fuck bottom.
