And we get into her background as a singer and being a wrestling fan as a kid. And I will tell you this. If you already love Samantha, you're going to love her so much more
Starting point is 00:01:28 after this conversation. And, you know, when I interviewed Lillian Garcia, I got her to do an intro for me. If she ended up being an in-ring competitor, Samantha the bomb. She's at Samantha Irvin, WWE on Instagram. I'm at Chris Van Fleet. And here you go. Enjoy this conversation with me and Samantha Irvin.
Starting point is 00:02:30 Samantha, it is so good to see you. Great to see you. Thank you so much. for coming by. Are you kidding me? I felt so silly when I messaged you and I was like, if you're ever in Las Vegas, you know, we'd love to have you by the studio and you're like, oh yeah, we live in Las Vegas. I'm like, yeah. Yes, I knew this. Vegas is one of those places. You know, it's like people live here. You forget, you forget that you got people here. You just got back into town, right? Yeah. You just flew in
Starting point is 00:02:55 this morning. I flew in at midnight. We landed like midnight. Thank you for making this happen. Of course. How many days a week is it? Like your schedule is crazy. The schedule can be crazy. It's pretty straightforward for me, though. You know, I'm mostly just on Monday Night Raw and then your premium live events. So travel on a Sunday, work on a Monday, travel on a Tuesday. That's not too bad. As a wrestling fan yourself, is it a crazy hearing the words out loud?
Starting point is 00:03:22 It's just Monday Night Raw. You know, it's just, it's just Raw. No, no big. No big deal. No big deal. Where does your wrestling fandom go back to? I'm sitting in the Federation years into, you know, the new generation attitude era. That's, that's me.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Mid-90s? Yeah, you know, I'm 34. So I've been watching my whole life, but that was like, for me, like, oh, my God, I'm addicted. So who were your people at that time? Sean Michaels. It's either Sean or Brett, right? Sean Michaels. And now that I'm older, I understand that I'm probably low-key, the biggest Brett Hart fan, you know, because he was at the center.
Starting point is 00:04:04 of everything that I was invested in. But yeah, big Sean Michaels, you know, love Mr. Perfect, love Eddie Guerrero. You know, the usual suspects, big McFoly girl. So good. Yeah. Is Ricochet your favorite now? Rickettche is my current favorite. He's amazing.
Starting point is 00:04:26 It's unbelievable the things that he can do. He walked up Shinski's body in front of my face, like walked up it. And it's funny because he's been on the show a few times now. And I'm just like, I don't, like, you do things that are like not humanly possible. Yeah. And you make them look so easy. He's like, yeah, it's what I do. And that's how he is.
Starting point is 00:04:47 He's like, if I practiced, then I could. And I'm like, see. And he doesn't even, that's not even him. Like, he walks so slow. He doesn't put any extra physical effort into anything. He's very chill, super chill guy. So in real life, he's not this agile, crazy. I mean, I'm sure if he wanted to be, but he don't want to be.
Starting point is 00:05:09 He wants to chill. Wow. Yeah, it's crazy. And then I see him going off and I'm like, see, you fake. Well, look, I see you going off. You are crushing it in WWA. Thank you so much. It's just amazing.
Starting point is 00:05:24 You add a certain element of like, it's already a big match, but you add something extra onto it. And I don't know if that's something you're aware of or it's just kind of something that just happens naturally. I love that. I think that sometimes I would be watching like before my journey started and I would feel like this is a big deal. Like this should feel like a big deal. So I'm glad that when something's a big deal, I can put my little thumb for this is a big deal. It's a big deal. It's it just, it ramps up the moment. That's great. It's amazing. I'm having a blast out there. It's very evident. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:03 And these videos, the WWE's social media team pointing a camera on you, so smart. I love it. But you can see the passion, right? Like when you see you're about to make an announcement, then you do make the announcement, it's like passion personified. Thank you. Thank you so much. I'm proud that I can use my voice for this.
Starting point is 00:06:23 Where did this journey start in WWE? And we'll talk about everything before that. Well, the journey started during the pandemic. I was tweeting and talking about wrestling and Mark Henry came across some of my stuff and he started tweeting me. And it was really that random. Mark Henry has found so much talent. This is unbelievable. Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:46 He just started tweeting me and was like, you should be in wrestling. Have you ever thought of WWE? WWE is calling. And I was like, I slid in his DMs. I said, sir, yes. what can I do? And he said, well, you'd have to do like a tryout, like a real physical tryout. That's what he would be able to do. And I was like, I'm not an athlete. I've never stepped foot in a ring, never played a sport, nothing. But I was like, well, if that's what I have to do, I'll go there and do it. So you had an actual audition?
Starting point is 00:07:18 I had a tryout. I did the tryout. Like with collegiate athletes. Like taking bumps? Taking bumps, running the ropes. Yeah. Yes, I did the actual tryout. What did you think of it? Besides giving birth to my daughter, it's like right there. It's like birth, WWE tryout. So how do you go from doing a WWE tryout and clearly not enjoying it to then having the opportunity to do what you're doing now? I think that in the process of the tryout, I obviously wasn't the fastest or the strongest or the strongest or.
Starting point is 00:07:56 anything impressive. But we did cut promos. I did have a chance to announce a couple matches and just kind of show my personality. And Mark Henry did tell me, he's like, just getting there and, you know, let them know what you think you'd be good at doing. So they saw that I wasn't athletic, but they thought that I was good at some other stuff. So luckily, I was able to connect with Michael Cole from there and get the ball rolling. What kind of stuff did Mark Henry see? Was it like singing? Yes. I was on a show called I Can See Your Voice and it was like a kind of like the mass singer. It's a little bit of a game show. The people, there's like five singers standing on the stage. Maybe they can sing. Maybe they can't sing. And the person has to guess based off sight and other hints if they can sing. So I was on that show and
Starting point is 00:08:44 he told me later, he was like, you played those people. You know, you played them and that's how I knew that you'd be good for it. You also played the flute on them. Yes, I played the flute. Rickettsy actually told me this during our last conversation. Like, it's not just the ring announcing. It's not just the singing. It's not just playing the flute. It's like you can do everything. That's so sweet.
Starting point is 00:09:04 I mean, it's true. Thank you. I master flutist? Floutist. But I'll take flutist. I'm not stuck up. I am not. That's not correct.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Tone my nose. Flautist. Floutist, yes. How long have you been playing the flute? Since I was about four years old, my mother was a classical floutist. So I just grew up with it. I was in the womb when she was at Boston Conservatory. So, yeah, I just, I don't even remember really learning how to play.
Starting point is 00:09:33 I just have been playing. When you tell a story like that, it's like you were born to be a performer. I really was. There was like no other, that's why, honestly, nothing's easy. Everything takes work, but the decisions are easy. I love that. Yes, I'm going to do it. Yeah, I'm going to do the tryout.
Starting point is 00:09:49 Yes, I'm going to do the audition. Yes, I'm going to do the gig. And that's it. we've been hustling. And I really think that we're a product of the decisions that we make. Absolutely. There's a lot of people that might have gone, I would love to be a ring announcer, but I don't want to do a tryout.
Starting point is 00:10:04 Absolutely. Well, I guess this isn't for me. Yep. For sure, because it's embarrassing. And I hope they never release the footage. But I knew, I knew, like, I have to do this. I got to do it. And also just to show how much I respect it and how much I know what it is, you know.
Starting point is 00:10:19 I am a singer and I know that I can contribute. like vocally or creatively, I knew that I could contribute in some way, but I respect what the athletes do. That's what this is all about. So I was happy I could do it and embarrass myself. But when you watch basketball, everybody's dribble the basketball or shot a basketball. If you watch baseball, everybody's played catch before. When you watch wrestling, not everybody, very small percentage actually have run the ropes. Very small percentage have taken a bump. And it's really interesting how many people watch and can give their take on things when they really don't know what it feels like to be in there. Yep. You've been there. Oh. You've done that. Oh, yes. And it's not,
Starting point is 00:11:02 I have pictures of just my back was just covered in bruises. The second day, I was, I'm like the class clown anyway. So the second day, we're all waiting for the trout to start. And I'm looking at the other ladies and I'm like, we don't have to do this. If we all get together and, and, and, and, and stand tall, we can pull the fire alarm. We just all need to be on the same page. And they were like, oh, you know, because they're athletes. And everybody was jacked up from it. Everybody was.
Starting point is 00:11:31 Even, you know, the biggest, tallest basketball player that came in, she was jacked up. And the little gymnast, she was jacked up. It was tough. So they're all laughing at you, you're like, no, I'm serious. I'm like dead serious, guys. I don't know what it is about my face. I'm serious. What kind of backpack did you bring in here?
Starting point is 00:11:47 Oh, that's a little Edward Cisorhands. Yeah. That's so fun. Bricchet got that for me. I feel like I need to show this. Hold on. I'm going to grab this. Oh, yay.
Starting point is 00:11:55 I do love this bag. So cute. I'll hold it up to the camera here. And there's different textures going on too, like his little bush sculptures. That is so cool. Wow. We'll just leave it here for now. Oh, I see the different texture.
Starting point is 00:12:17 Very cool. Thank you. You know, as a woman, I mean, that's what you want when you carry a bag. I just showed it off. It's cute. It's pretty cool. Yes. Did I see you had a Beatles tattoo here?
Starting point is 00:12:30 Yep, I got the Beatles over here. What is going on here? Okay. Oh. That's okay. Okay. Abby Road. Abby Road.
Starting point is 00:12:39 Yep. Those are my guys. And what was on? Here I have Diana Ross with some flowers. You know, I had her first and then I added the flowers later. And then I have Michael Jackson on my ankle. So are these your biggest musical inspirations? These are my biggest, yes, but musical, I mean, the Beatles are number one.
Starting point is 00:12:59 Always will be number one for me. Michael Jackson as just a stage performer, all around entertainer. He's number one in that regard. And then Diana Ross, for me, just, she just represents, like, elegance and grace and love. And just she makes me feel a lot of very positive feelings. She's a big role model for me as well. So I'm probably going to add a few more. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:22 Yeah. Were these the artists you listened to when you were growing up? Oh, yes. I'm very, very old school. So all old music all the time. Motown, Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, The Beatles, Queen. Amazing. Yeah, that's my, that's my jam. When you talk about performers, there is so much of what you do that is a performance aspect. And it's not just saying weights and hometowns and names. And there's a lot of people that think that being a ring announcer is just saying, they're from here, they weigh this, here's their name. Right.
Starting point is 00:13:53 When you first started getting into WWE, what was kind of the first piece of advice you were given? Oh, man, the first piece of advice, when I got the offer, Mark Henry called me right away. And he said, listen to the greats, listen to the legends. And I said, dog, I already, you already know. Like Howard Finkel, Lillian, love them.
Starting point is 00:14:18 They're the sound, like, they're just my childhood. Like, I just, I know their voices. I know how I felt. when I listened to them. So just educating myself on what the role has been and how the bands have connected to that role in the past, that was the first real bit of advice that I got. Have you had any conversations with Lillian?
Starting point is 00:14:38 Yes, I met Lillian. She came to a Smackdown last year, and we met, and she was like, I was nervous, and she was like, you're doing such a great job. She was like, you're really killing it, and we exchanged numbers, and I got a little mushy on her. You know, I let her know kind of, you know, like,
Starting point is 00:14:55 I love you, like, want you to know. She's so sweet. Yes, and she was just so great. She was like, hit me up any time. There's been a lot of comparisons. Oh, yeah. Between you and Lily and Garcia? Every day.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Yeah. Every single day. And it makes me so proud because I dreamed of that. I dreamed that. When I saw Lillian singing the national anthem, you know, on television, Acapella Live at, like, the saddest point in our country, in my lifetime, I just, I was like, wow, they're singing and wrestling.
Starting point is 00:15:26 They're singing and wrestling. She's singing right now. Everybody's standing there listening to her, and I never forgot that. When you talk about the greats like Howard Finkel, Lillian Garcia, and everybody else who has come before, those are some big shoes to fill. Oh, yeah. But you're doing something where you're filling those shoes, also putting your own spin on it. Thank you. At what point did they allow you to be you?
Starting point is 00:15:49 Well, I think that probably kind of from the beginning. I think I came in at a time where things were changing. There was a, we were in the pandemic and live audiences were starting to come back. 205 Live was turning into level up. Nxte was turning into NXT 2.0. There were just a lot of things shifting at that time. And Michael Cole just gave me the go ahead. He was like, I want you to do your ideas, whatever your
Starting point is 00:16:19 ideas are. I know you know this is what we always have done. But if something moves you, he's always been very supportive and given me a lot of credit. Like, you know, you're a performer. You have a lot of time in doing this. So he gave me as trust and that gave me the confidence to, you know, if Michael Cole says, go ahead. You're like, all right. Yeah. Michael Cole said, go ahead. So, yeah, it was great. When you're announcing a superstar for the first time, you've never introduced them before. Do you have a conversation with them? Do you say, how do you, How do you hear this going? I think, well, lately now I have because now it's become something.
Starting point is 00:16:54 But initially, it was just being in the PC with the new talent. I started at the same time as like Carmelo and Grayson Waller and Braun Breaker and Tony DeAngelo. We all started at the same time kind of working on our stuff. So it was just a creative time. And they are my inspiration. So I don't always have a conversation. I don't think I actually had any conversations really until maybe like Solo Sokoa. I talked to him about his.
Starting point is 00:17:29 Okay. How's that conversation go? That's it? He gave me the thumbs up when he liked it. If Solo is putting the thumb out, you can also start to get scared. I said, no, he said, and I said, okay, okay, okay. So you do it for him? And then it's like, okay.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Yeah, I was like, hey, you know, when he, when we were over at NXT, I kind of sang it a little more solo, but he kind of had like this very aggressive thing going on. So I was like, what do you think? You know, solo? We're like, solo. And he was like, okay, solo.
Starting point is 00:17:59 Okay. So that, yeah, Drew, Drew McIntyre, we talk a lot about the timing of his and, you know, he talks to me about his. But for the most part, I just go, I just, I just go for it. And luckily nobody has been offended. Yeah, everybody's been good.
Starting point is 00:18:19 But I do like to ask for feedback and I say, do you like that? Piper gave me an idea a couple weeks ago, which was great. Obviously, we got Naya Jacks back. So I'm already, she played her song for me. She's like, this is what my song, you know, this is what I got going on. So I always trying to make it fit the vibe. I always get it from their essence anyway. What if it's a legend?
Starting point is 00:18:43 You've never introduced them before. And they're coming out and they've been introduced by every other ring announcer, their whole career. And now it's up to you. Okay. So I've had a few. The first one that pops to my mind is Edge, the rated R superstar, because that was such an iconic announcement from Tony Chimel. Everybody knows that.
Starting point is 00:19:03 And I would never want to like jack that announcement or copy it. But you always want to like still capture the essence. I got to announce him at Clash at the Castle. That's actually the only time I think that I've announced him. Wow. And it was crazy. But I said, I'm going to go for something different. I'm just going to go for what I interpret him as, as what we know now.
Starting point is 00:19:25 Edge, he's returned. We never thought we would see Edge again. And now he's just killing it. Who is Edge right now? And it was the Red Hatta superstar. And it just happened. And he liked it. And that meant everything to me.
Starting point is 00:19:41 And he came up to me like, I saw him a couple months after that. He was like, hey, I've been meaning to tell you. You know, I really liked what you did. He was like, superstar. And I was like, okay, good. He liked it. So him, Sean Michaels, I got to announce Sean, and I just basically said it the way I probably would have said it when I was seven.
Starting point is 00:19:58 I was like, Sean Michaels, you know, Triple Age, triple, you know, I just, whatever they make me feel. And I do take a lot from Howard. If it's an old, an older announcement or something, take a lot from him because I still want that, that nostalgia, like a ring of nostalgia to be there for the people who know. Like in what way? What would you say that you borrow from Howard? Like when I, okay, so always when I say disqualification, disqualification, I just always, like, kind of copy that. I announced Brett Hart and I wanted to keep it very clipped, you know,
Starting point is 00:20:37 Hitman Hart, you know, so I. That's good. I took that. Kurt Engel, you know, there's some that you just, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You know, not, so some of them I just like to kind of keep it how I remember them being. But how do you decide if it's going to have a classic feel like that or if you're going to put a little like growl behind it? Ooh. Oh, I don't even know. It's just what feels right.
Starting point is 00:21:00 Honestly, it's like whatever feels, whatever feels right. Because there's some you put a little growl behind? Yeah. And I'm like, yeah. Okay. I'm trying to, I'm trying to tone down. I'm trying to pick and choose with the growl. Because as a singer, that happens.
Starting point is 00:21:15 You get in shows. I've done Michael Jackson shows. I've played Tina Turner. And you just get into this, you know, you're going. And everything's like this. And then you kind of have to say, all right, calm down. So, you know, sometimes you do it. Sometimes you don't.
Starting point is 00:21:27 I'm trying to sing a little bit more through my announcements. That's been my goal the last few weeks is to sing through them a little bit more. Give us an example of one of those. So who can I? Oh, no. I can't even think of anybody. Oh, yesterday, Tomaso Champa. So at the top, I went, you know, Tomaso.
Starting point is 00:21:49 And then, like, I was like, Tomasa. You know, there's a difference if you, like, you know, I'm not really warmed up, but. Oh, is there a warm up process? Oh, yeah. So now, now that I'm old, I didn't even know. I have done so many shows. I'm old. Now that I'm older, I am definitely seeing.
Starting point is 00:22:08 And just the traveling and what this actually is vocally is just, it's, it's, It's a lot. So now I do see the benefits of like doing the right thing. Warming up, drinking some tea, you know. So how long is the warmup process? I try to do like 15 minutes to a half an hour. And I just do singing warmups. Yeah, singing warmups. So it's like.
Starting point is 00:22:28 Yep. That was beautiful. Thank you. That was my scale. Yeah. You have a gorgeous voice. You shouldn't have let me hear that. You are such a great liar.
Starting point is 00:22:41 Is it like the, the Ron Burgundy vocal exercises? Well, you know, I do try to throw in a little Ray Mysterio rented a Rolls Royce. Wow. Yeah, you know, you got to see my TikTok with the Carion Cross considered his credit score. Yeah. I was thinking of the arsonist had oddly shaped feet. The human torch was denied a bank loan.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Yeah. So good. And he's a floutist. Big inspiration. That's true. I actually didn't watch that movie until like last year because I was butt hurt. About what? Because I was in high school when it came out and I was in the marching band and everybody was like, oh, yaws flute.
Starting point is 00:23:24 And I was like, no, it's a serious thing. It is the yaws. Now I'm like a yos flute. I'm with it now. Jogging or yogging? I don't know. It's hilarious. Christina Applegate.
Starting point is 00:23:36 So good. That's one of my favorite comedies of all time. So good. You have like a vibe in here, actually. It's a little big. I guess if we faced this camera here. Yeah, and we were a little more serious. Tonight, on the news.
Starting point is 00:23:46 Yeah. Yeah, it could be like that, but we're not going to be serious. If you want to get a better night's sleep and change your bedding less often, let me put you on to Miracle Maid's bed sheets. These are the softest and the best sheets that I've ever slept on. So they're inspired by NASA, and Miracle Maid uses silver-infused fabrics to make temperature-regulating bedding so you can sleep at the perfect temperature all night long. And because these sheets are infused with silver, it prevents up to 99.7% of bacterial growth.
Starting point is 00:24:17 So they stay cleaner and fresher up to three times longer than other sheets. So no more gross smelling sheets here. And these are soft. Like we're talking like five-star hotel soft here without the five-star prices. Give them a try for yourself and see what I'm talking about. Go to try miracle.com slash CVV. They're already on sale right now, like 40% off. But if you use the promo code, CVV at checkout, you'll get an additional 20% off and three free towels on top of that.
Starting point is 00:24:51 So go to try miracle.com slash CVV and use that promo code, CVV. I remember interviewing Bruce Buffer, and he talked about how difficult it was to make announcements when someone had just a one syllable name. Oh. And when you said Edge, and I thought about that. It's terrible. Yeah, because you can't like sing song if it's one syllable. You can, but it's a, it's risky, you know? You can't turn, you're going to turn into two syllables?
Starting point is 00:25:23 I mean, you could edge or you could slide it. You know, I think the consonants save you from anything that could happen. Like even when I was doing that, I just had like a little come up. Anything can happen. So your consonants and all that, you could disguise if there's something going wrong. But with something like edge, that's why I was scared about it. my biggest fear has just been like, and it's like, oh no.
Starting point is 00:25:47 And then that's the end of Samantha Irvin. No. You know? No. The people love you. I love the people. It's very clear. This is a symbiotic thing.
Starting point is 00:25:56 It's like a vibe. It's a thing. And people are vibing with you. I love it. It's great because I'm out there the whole night. It's true. And it's not just, for people who haven't ever been to a WWE live event,
Starting point is 00:26:07 it's not just you announcing people. You're doing all this other stuff during commercial breaks. Oh, yes. Yeah. Yeah, we got a whole lot going on. You know, we got, we got t-shirts to tell the people about. We have cameras that we like to put on the crowd and people like to put their signs up and show off their dance moves.
Starting point is 00:26:24 We have, you know, we do the DX cam, you know, we teaching the kids all the good stuff that they need to know. Isn't their eyebrow cam? We got the people's eyebrow cam. Yep. We do the you can't see me cam. Oh. We were in North Carolina. We did the Wu cam, the Rick Flair Woo cam.
Starting point is 00:26:40 So good. So yeah, you know, we have a lot going on, like to get the people up on the screen as well. When they told you you had to not only say all the names and waits and hometowns, but had to memorize them all. Where does that process begin? That's, okay, that process is whack. Okay, it is so much pressure. And, but, you know, hey, I have a theater background. So I, you know, memorization is, has always kind of been my thing. It's the hardest part, but it is something that I'm used to, you know, doing shows and having lines and all that kind of stuff, doing auditions for jobs that you never get.
Starting point is 00:27:21 You know, I've learned a lot of lines. So were you literally sitting there with a piece of paper? Like, okay, yep, uh-huh, okay, the next one, uh-huh, okay. I had little flashcards when I first started. Like I had the superstar and then on the back, everything that I needed to know. And that was kind of how I did it when I first started. Wow. then it's like, you know, I'm saying these every week. So now it's, I know everybody now and I know where
Starting point is 00:27:43 they're from, you know, and I know how much they're way. Can I put you on the spot right now? If I throw out a name? Oh, no. I mean, as long as, yeah, go ahead. I think I'll be okay. I'll try to think of specifically just raw. You run Smackdown for a long time. Yeah. How about Cody Rhodes? Atlanta, Georgia, 222 pounds, the American nightmare. L.A. Knight. Oh, this one, he went off on me because I actually said his hometown wrong. But now we bill him from Los Angeles, California. 240 pounds. What about Rick O'Shea, the new Irish Rexler?
Starting point is 00:28:17 Las Vegas, Nevada. 207. He's originally from Paducah, though, but they did recently change that. Rick O'Shea. Rick O'Shea. The fans say that to him all the time. Oh, yeah. Yeah, they say it all the time.
Starting point is 00:28:28 And they say it to me, too. They're like, can Rick O'Shea fight? I'm like, oh my goodness. What about Natty? Natty, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Oh, yeah, that's right. There's no weights. There's no weights.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Just fine. What about John Sina? John Sina, from West Newbury, Massachusetts, weighing in at, I don't know. I've never announced him in a... I think he's 246. Really? Oh, wait, no, I have announced him in a match, haven't I? From West Newbury, Massachusetts, weighing in at 200...
Starting point is 00:29:00 I don't remember. 251? That might be at 251 pounds. One time I announced John Sina. there it is. And there it is. Thank you. Oh, no, now I'm definitely canceled with John Cena. I'm so sorry. AJ Stiles. A.J. Stiles is from, he's from, he's from Georgia, Gainesville, Florida, no Georgia. And I don't know. I'm not sure. He's another one that I don't think I've done. 218. 218. Okay. Yeah, he's another one that I haven't done that much.
Starting point is 00:29:35 How about Charlotte? Charlotte. She's the Queen City. Easy. I saw that John Cena was announced the other day as the greatest of all time. Yes, that's a new. That's a new note. And when he said it, Mike Rome announced him. And then he looked over at Rome and you're like, yep, you.
Starting point is 00:29:55 You're the goat. What are the names you love to say? I love to say, I love to say Apollo Cruz. I love Apollo. Oh, hello. It's just so fun. I love, now I'm starting to really love the judgment day. I'm getting into that.
Starting point is 00:30:14 I'll always love the bloodline. That's always my answer. I absolutely loved denouncing the bloodline. It turned into like, I don't know, like an easy E moment for me. Like it was just like, all right, we going. Like, it was so much fun at that time. Back to our game, Roman Raines. Roman Raines.
Starting point is 00:30:34 See, I feel like I don't know. Now I feel like I have. Oh, I know Roman, but I feel bad about John and AJ Styles. Just so you know, I'm going to think about that all night and I'm going to feel terrible. And then I'm going to see them and I'm going to say, hey, I'm so sorry about when I didn't know. But Pensacola, Florida, 265 pounds, he is the undisputed WWU universal champion. No. That one is crazy.
Starting point is 00:31:04 That's my craziest announcement hands down. What about the Uso's? The Uso's? I mean, they've just been the champs. But now we got, they're separated. So we have main event, Jay Uso, which is, he's on the right show. San Francisco, California, 242 pounds. Main event.
Starting point is 00:31:25 People love the way you announce Gunther. Oh, good. And it's the way that like, you say his name, the way that he says his name. Good. It's funny because when I talk to him, like, do you get offended when people call you Gunther because it's not, you know, the exact pronunciation? We actually talked about your announcement. Oh, good.
Starting point is 00:31:43 I was like, I loved it. Like, she makes it like a real moment. I was very happy to hear that because, you know, he's not easy to read. So I'm glad he likes it. Ooh. Yeah, because he doesn't show a lot of emotion. No. I mean, he just kind of is like, you know.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Does he smile ever? I'm sure in his, when he's like tormenting somebody or he gets a real good chopin. Maybe he smiles a little. I loved seeing you be a little bit of the focus at SummerSlam between Logan Paul and Rickache. Logan Paul, by the way, not a very nice man when he's a wrestler. Yeah, you know, he's focused on himself. But that was cool that like, that we acknowledged that you and Rickashet are engaged, that you guys are a thing.
Starting point is 00:32:31 Yeah. And now this exists in the work world of, you know, where you guys both are employed. Yes, it is, yeah, it's very nice. And it's nice to let the fans know because I do support him. And I do care a lot about his journey and his goals and what he wants to accomplish. So I'm proud to support him. But of course, I have to do my job all the time.
Starting point is 00:32:53 And he knows that. And I don't think the fans understand that necessarily. Some of them don't get it because they're always like, how come you're not helping him? And I'm like, what do you want me to do? Like I got a little skirt on. Like I'm about to go in here. I told you I can't wrestle.
Starting point is 00:33:07 Like everybody wants me to wrestle. I'm like, why? The moment where Logan Paul was like, come on, say my name at SummerSlam. The look on your face, it's just, it was perfect for the moment. I was not happy and definitely not happy to have a camera in my face while he's saying that to me. Yeah. So not my favorite. And it's crazy because it's such a like a rewatched, rewerewsing.
Starting point is 00:33:33 played moment and it's like the wackest moment that I've had. But, you know, it's fine. You still nailed the announcement. Thank you. No matter what, I was going to get the announcement off no matter what, but I was not. Obviously, I was in shock. Sure. I have not seen anyone assault my fiance with brass knuckles before. So that was the first. It was just mean. It was just lazy. But I think that we know what would have probably happened. It's true. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:08 Do you have a favorite ricochet moment? Favorite ricochet moment? Ooh. I really love, oh, well, I loved when he won the Intercontinental Championship. That was a great, great, great, great moment. And I was so happy I was able to announce that. But I also loved the Smackdown World Cup. His match with Santos Escobar was crazy.
Starting point is 00:34:30 But honestly, he's great. Rick O'Shea is like, he's the one for, you know, you know that every match is going to be incredible. You know he's going to do everything in his power to try to win. So I love everything that I've seen him do. I've never seen him have a bad match. Yeah, seriously. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:49 He was telling me about the first date that you guys have here in Las Vegas. Yeah. And like, it was amazing to begin with. And then it just kept getting more and more. Amazing. First of all, how did you guys meet? We met on Twitter, actually. I was doing my due diligence.
Starting point is 00:35:09 It was all professional. I was just following and, you know, following the current wrestlers and just, you know, getting in the mix of what was going on. And he followed me back. And I was like, oh, he followed me back.
Starting point is 00:35:22 Then he followed me immediately on Instagram. And I said he really, like, opened up a separate app and looked me up and followed me on Instagram. Yeah. And he was just liking my stuff. And I messaged him and I said, thank you for being so nice. And, you know, liking my stuff. And he was like saying good morning to me and stuff. It was just really nice. And we just started talking. And we're still talking. That's how I usually tell people like we just never stopped talking. And then it was like, all right, well, next time we're in Las Vegas, let's meet in person. It was like we had a few conversations and I didn't even tell him that I was probably going to work at WWW. because I was like, I'm not doing this. I'm not about to be dating no wrestler right off the bat. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:36:06 I was like, no. But I ended up telling him a couple conversations in. I was like, hey, seems like we're going to keep talking. And I just want you to know, like, I'm probably going to be moving to Florida. I'm probably going to be around. And he was like, ew, you're going to be closer to me. And he didn't care. So, yeah, then we just, he said he wanted to come see me.
Starting point is 00:36:27 So he flew out to Vegas. And that was it. We drove to the Grand Canyon on a whim. But you say that like the Grand Canyon is not close. It's not. It's like four, what, four and a half hours or something? Yeah. But I love to drive and he loves to drive.
Starting point is 00:36:42 And all of our conversations were long. We were on the phone talking for hours and hours. Like, seriously, every day we were talking. And it just seemed like a fun thing to do. Like, let's go for this little road trip. Wow. Yeah. And I'd never been there before and neither had he.
Starting point is 00:36:57 That is the best first date ever. It really was. It was so nice. And now he's living out here in Vegas. So we're driving around just yesterday. We were driving. And I'm like, look at us. Still driving together.
Starting point is 00:37:08 Me and you still together. What do you guys call each other? I call my wife Honey. We're honey people. I call him handsome a lot. Yeah. I call him handsome. He calls me Honey.
Starting point is 00:37:19 Yeah. We call each other baby. Oh. Yeah. Baldy. No, just kidding. Why you bald? Why you bald?
Starting point is 00:37:26 That comes up all the time. Yeah. Why are you ugly? I do always say, like, why are you so handsome? I should just say, why are you bald? And I should say it like that. You should. Because I love it.
Starting point is 00:37:39 Why? Is he saying that to me? No. No. You know the thing I'm talking about. No. You don't? No, I just thought you were dissing me.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Oh, there's a very viral clip of him live on Instagram. Oh, oh, of course. He's answering the clips, right? And he's like, why you bald? I'm sorry. No. Why are you ugly? Of course.
Starting point is 00:37:57 I know what you're talking about. But when you said, why are you so ugly? It just, I was thinking of something else. Oh. Why you both? Why you ugly? Yeah, I remember. He's so, that was before me.
Starting point is 00:38:07 That was, that was pre-Savanta Irvin. You know what name we didn't talk about? Your announcement of Chelsea Green is so interesting. I love it. What's the story behind this? It was just because of her. It's just her. She, um, she came back.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Her attitude and everything was just, she was so sassy. And I, I just loved it. And I just thought she, She's not, you know, what, Chelsea Green? Like, no, she's Chelsea Green. And it just, I did it one time. I think now it's like, obviously, now it's over the top. But the first time I did it, I think I just was like, Chelsea Green.
Starting point is 00:38:44 And like, some people noticed, you know. I think everybody noticed. Well, now she will not let me say it any other way. She helped me fine-tune it perfectly for her. I think that that's one of that and Gunther are like two of your signature announcements, I think. Thank you. That makes me proud because when I left SmackDown, I was like, okay, bloodline, bloodline, you know, Roman. And then that ended. And I was like, oh, no, I don't know if I got any number one hits. And then, you know, now I have Imperium and Chelsea. So that's good. You got to have some hit records. How much do you think your musical background has helped you become a great ring announcer? Oh, I don't even know. In my mind, I don't think of myself like, I'm a ring announcer.
Starting point is 00:39:31 I don't think about, like, I know that that's what I'm doing, but I'm a vocalist. Like, I'm a vocalist. I have a singer. So, like, that's what I feel like I'm doing, you know? Yeah. I don't, it's, it's so similar to every other singing thing that I've done. So. We had a vocal coach on the show years ago, Roger Love, and he talked about how your voice is
Starting point is 00:39:56 an instrument. And your voice can be used for singing. It can be used for ring announcing. be used for speaking, whatever it is. But so few people think about their voice being an instrument as well. Yeah, it really is. It absolutely is. And the fact that, I love the fact that you, like, you're treating this like it's a singing, like you're warming up your voice, then you're going in there. You add some very musical elements to it. Thank you. I feel like I love theme music. I love WWE themes. I always have. Ooh, give me your top three. Darkside version two.
Starting point is 00:40:32 Undertaker. Bad guy. Razor Ramon. Percussion is nasty. Don't even. Nah. Percussion is going off on that one. And Flash Funk is one that I always have to put in.
Starting point is 00:40:50 Always. Because that's like, that's a vocal. That's like a R&B vocal. Triple H doesn't even make the list. Triple H. I love Triple H's too. There's so many.
Starting point is 00:41:01 You know, you said name three. It's hard. There are. There's so many. We could go three from, you know, this era. Give us some of my other favorites. Some of my current favorites. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:12 I mess with Ria Ripley's song. I mess with that song. I mess with Imperial. I mess with, I like Damien Priest's song. I really do love the music. The music for me just, it just makes me so happy. So you always want to match that energy too. Like, if there's a vocal that's coming,
Starting point is 00:41:34 in on the song, I would like to try to make the announcement sound similar to the vocal. Like Zoe Stark's song, it's very like, so I'm like, Zoe Stark, you know what I mean. The United States Soccer Federation present the U.S. Soccer podcast. My name is David Goss, and I'm joined by my co-host, Megan Klinemberg. And now we're giving people an inside look at the World Cup. Time's ticking. I think you can feel the intensity. All the guys are wanting to really take their claim, and they want to be on that World Cup
Starting point is 00:42:02 roster. There's no doubt about it. Hosting a World Cup on the home soil comes with its pressures, but we're just really excited just as the people are. The U.S. Soccer podcast, presented by Henco. Follow and listen on your favorite platform. How much nerves are there? Because it's not only saying the name correctly, but it's hitting the mark, right? Yeah. So how much nerves is it like, you know what you have to say, but then you're looking for your cue and it's like, okay, now I can go. I was nervous to come here and do this. So the nerves for me are always there.
Starting point is 00:42:33 have a lot of anxiety, a lot of performance anxiety that I just don't think is ever going to go away. I think about it all the time of how I can try to make. People are like, you've done this so, you know, you've done this so much. Why are you still nervous? But I'm a perfectionist and I want it to be great. The main thing with the vocals is when you, like, I had to like check myself a couple weeks ago because I was like, I lost Ria's announcement. I can't do it. Like I, you know, I told Rickettsie, I told my brothers. I'm like, I lost it. I can't do it. I can't do it. voice is tired. And they're like, what do you mean? You lost it. Like, you made it up. Like, I made it up. Nobody told me I had to say it that way. So it's like I hold myself to this, this standard.
Starting point is 00:43:15 And I, and I just, I want to nail it every single time. So it is nerve-wracking, especially when things maybe have to change, you know, on the fly. Like, say, like we had a match yesterday that kind of got swapped. So, you know, you got to, you just kind of have to adapt. But I'm always nervous. There's never, ever, ever a time where I'm not nervous. Before you make an announcement, you have the mic right here, your chest. The big question. And then you bring it to your mouth for the announcement. Yes.
Starting point is 00:43:46 What's going on there? I've never answered this question. I get asked this question every single day on social media. So it's, and I think I don't answer it because there's like no real good reason. That's the answer then. There's a few reasons. There are a few. One is that mic is hot. It's live. So if there's, you know, people walking by production people or there's always stuff going on in that area. So I do like to hide the mic or try to keep it out of the way. I usually tuck it behind me when I don't have to announce. Then when I pull it up, I like to make sure that there's just, you know, it's not just out catching whatever sound is happening. So I kind of hold it here. That also lets Berkeley know that I'm ready for.
Starting point is 00:44:33 him, you know, because he'll just cue me, you know. So when he sees me doing this, he knows that I am ready. And then when I don't know sometimes when the announcement's going to come. So I mean, this is the quickest, you know what I'm saying? Like, you don't want to be like, oh, oh, oh, oh, you know. So those are like the main reasons. And I wasn't even sure where I got it from. I actually messaged Alicia. And I was like, Alicia, did you do that? Like, did I copy that from you? And she was like, no. She was like, that's just you. I was like, yeah, I am kind of. weird. How do they decide when you're going to be doing the announcements in the ring or when you're going to be doing them at ring side? So generally for the championship matches, we'll do the in-ring,
Starting point is 00:45:16 you know, no music. Championship introductions. Championship introductions. And then that changed during the pandemic. I don't really know that was before me that they that they kind of pulled the announcers. But there's a lot going on that there's pyro. There's, there's a lot happening. So It is kind of safer sometimes to just kind of be off to the side to get the announcement off. But usually for like main event, I'll be in the ring. When you're off to the side, though, sometimes the action comes to you. Yeah. Sometimes it's right there in front of you.
Starting point is 00:45:52 It sure is. What's been the scariest moment or the most unexpected moment of like, oh my gosh, this is happening right now? I mean, Gable and Gunther had a crazy little situation. over in my area a few weeks ago. But I was sitting right there when Big E got hurt. So a lot of times, like, I am, I'm scared, honestly. Like, I am scared. What they're doing is a big risk. And it's, and as a fan, you know, as long as I've been watching, I'm not stupid. Things can't happen. This is not like a guarantee, you know. So I am always just like hoping, my one memory that pops in is the women's money in the bank ladder match this year.
Starting point is 00:46:37 I'm sitting there. Charles Robinson, the ref is sitting there watching and he's got like tears in his eyes and we're both. And I hope he's not, you know, I'm just, now I'm just, see, now I'm like just me and you chilling. That's what we're doing. We're just chilling. But honestly, he just, they were, they were doing some crazy stuff in that match and we both were just watching and just, it was emotional.
Starting point is 00:46:57 Like you just, we want everyone to be okay. And, you know, so I am. my reactions are genuine when some crazy stuff is going down. I mean, you have the best seat in the house. I do. I do. I absolutely. I love it.
Starting point is 00:47:13 Yeah. I mean, we can tell. Yeah, it's great. That's the best part about it. It's amazing. It's the best job ever. How different do you find the announcements when you're in an arena versus in a stadium? So, well, stadium, sometimes you get that big, like, clap back where you kind of say it, say it.
Starting point is 00:47:31 And then you hear it. You know? So that is like, especially when you're like, you want to be locked in with time. And you don't have an earpiece, right? Don't have an earpiece. So that's the main difference, sometimes just the echo. But man, those big shows are crazy. Talk to me about WrestleMania 39.
Starting point is 00:47:49 WrestleMania. I can't believe that I announced the main event. I can't believe that. That it was just I gave every single bit of energy that I had, every molecule of oxygen, everything that I had for those announcements. It was absolutely magical. I was very proud. I felt very relieved and accomplished when it was over. And man, that crowd, it was great. I've had, like, I can just, I could just gut, like, the shows have been fabulous. The premium live event, since I've been on the main roster, I've been choked up almost every single time,
Starting point is 00:48:31 just from the energy of the fans, what's going on, you know. It's, yeah. I mean, you really do have the dream job. I do. It's stupid. It's stupid. It really is. And it's nerve-wracking.
Starting point is 00:48:43 And it really is. It's so nerve-wracking to get all dolled up and you're wearing your heels, even just getting in the ring. I'm getting in the ring for all these people. Okay. Like, it is nerve-wracking. But there is really no feeling when you're done and you did it. And hopefully you didn't jack it up.
Starting point is 00:49:01 and you just feel good. And then you can sit and enjoy the show. With your background as a singer, do you think that there will ever be a time when you do what Lillian does? You sing the national anthem before shows? I actually am the voice of the national anthem now on the live events. They've been playing my national anthem,
Starting point is 00:49:20 so that's pretty awesome. I mean, which is, that's amazing. I've sung it live at the live events. On TV, maybe one day when they ask, I'm a singer. So I will sing. I will try. to accomplish every single one of my goals, including making.
Starting point is 00:49:35 Oh, what are some other goals? We love goals. We love talking about goals. I already see who I am. So it's hard to talk about it because I don't know how to list it out, just like I didn't know that I would be in the West End and then I'd be on America's Got Talent and then I'd be on I can see your voice. And then I'd be in Australia and Malaysia and New Zealand and Japan and all over the UK and
Starting point is 00:49:53 Sweden and Germany. I couldn't have told you when I was 20. These are all the things. But I knew that they would happen. just like I always dreamed and hoped I would get to WWE. So my dream now, just like John Sina and Batista and The Rock have gone off into Hollywood and done amazing for themselves, I would like to do the same in music. I'd like to make music and always be a WWE person, but to continue to help to bring WWE as, you know, in the forefront of entertainment as possible. So that means that at some point in the next few years, we could hear an album from you?
Starting point is 00:50:34 Maybe even sooner. I have music out too. So if anybody, you know, just wants to kick it with me, follow me. I'm always singing. I'm always singing. I'll never stop singing. What do you sing along to in the car? On the drive over here, what were you singing along to?
Starting point is 00:50:47 I don't really sing in the car like that. I don't sing along to anybody. The rest of us do. Yeah. I think people always try to get me to do karaoke and stuff. It's like when you, when singing is your job, that's not like fun, you know, karaoke's not fun. Do you feel like if you did karaoke, you'd just be showing off a little bit?
Starting point is 00:51:05 That's why I don't like it. Yeah, like you'd have to bring it down a few levels. Yeah. Like if we went to play golf with like some professional golf, where they'd be like, well, I guess I'll hit just par today. I guess I might sound a little like, no, I'll just keep it real. Like, I don't want to sing karaoke. I don't because I'm like, I feel, yeah, I don't.
Starting point is 00:51:27 I think the point of karaoke is like, wow, this is something I never get to do. Like, I'm going to get up with my friends and I'm going to sing and I'm going to have, but this is something that I always have to do and I'm nervous every time I do it and I get paid to do it. That's a great point. Karaoke is for most people like getting over a fear. Yeah. I'm going to drink five beers and then get up there. I'm going to sing meatloaf.
Starting point is 00:51:49 Yeah. Meatloaf, whatever. Those are good ones. Those are great, those are great songs. Can you cut out the AJ Styles part? Is that done? Like, is that in it? It's okay.
Starting point is 00:52:02 Yeah, but he actually gave me some really good feedback, too, and I don't want him to take it back. Well, what did he say? He said that I was doing a great job with the announcements. And he said he saw, he was watching him on social media, and he liked how into it I was getting in it and how it hypes everything up. Well, he's not wrong. Yeah, but now he might see me and be like, you don't know where I'm from. You think AJ Styles is watching this? Wow.
Starting point is 00:52:26 Do you not, y'all, all y'all are going to be. tagging him. See, that's the problem. It's all the people are going to be tagging him trying to send it to him. Talking about she don't know where you're from. That's not true. That's not true. Which I didn't. That's not true. I would have had to look at the, you know, some, that's the thing. I have a whole little book. People ask me all the time what's in my book. But in there, I have stats. I have match rules. I have the card and I have cough drops and tea bags and all kinds of stuff. So whenever it's someone that I don't have, I don't think I've ever been on the same show as AJ. it is. Yeah, but it's Bob. I'm going to cry. I'm going to go. I'm going to call
Starting point is 00:53:03 Rickash on the way home and I'm like, it was good. I'm not going to remember any of the funny or good stuff that I said. I'm only going to remember that. And I'm going to call him and I'm like, oh my God. Nobody is even thinking about that. Now they are. That's not true. It's not even one comment about this. Everyone's going, wow, Samantha's awesome. I love her announcement. She's so good. That makes me happy. I love everybody. One. Yeah. I don't ever get no shade or hate.
Starting point is 00:53:29 It's all love. There is, and you know this, the WWE universe is not very forgiving. Yep. And when you're a new person there, they either immediately love you or they immediately think something else about you. You ingratiated yourself to the fans so quickly. Do you remember there was a moment where you were like, okay, I think people like, you know, they like me.
Starting point is 00:53:54 Oh, man. And probably the TikTok stuff. When I started posting on TikTok and I got to like really see how people were responding to it, I was like, okay. Because you know, you do a show and then you have a lot of tweets. So I always liked reading through my tweets and talking to the fans. I still be talking back with people all the time. But I think that the TikTok era for me. Sure.
Starting point is 00:54:17 So like the end of my Smackdown run. I was like, oh my gosh. Like I'm like a part of this. Like people are saying they look forward to, you know, hearing their favorite announcement. Yeah. So that's, I mean, that's like the goal. You just want to contribute something. Like, I love this.
Starting point is 00:54:33 I love, I love this. So you want to contribute something and have it be something that this is all precious to us. And that's why the fans are like the way they are. I don't even mind when I get the hate because I deserve it. Oh, no. What are you talking about? Hear me out. because it doesn't upset me because I have been that person.
Starting point is 00:54:54 I've never once in my life tweeted someone. Like, oh, I hated this movie that you were in. Like, I've never done that. But as a fan, you know, you think you know stuff. You're watching and you're like, oh, I used to dog my brothers all the time. There's a difference between saying that with your friends or family when you're sitting there watching the TV. It's another thing about putting it out on a public forum. Right.
Starting point is 00:55:15 Which is so I don't think that that's right. Obviously, people should be more positive. but I still will respond and engage. And sometimes I've had people say, you know what? You're right, Sam. I don't need to be so mean about it. Or they're like, oh, wow, I didn't actually think you'd see this. I'm so sorry.
Starting point is 00:55:30 They're like, oh, my God, I didn't think you'd respond. I'm like, well, it's me. You know, I'm on the plane. I'm like, yeah, let me talk to the fan. Because I'm a fan. Yeah. I'm a fan. That's the same Twitter account that I've been talking about wrestling the whole time.
Starting point is 00:55:41 Samantha the bomb. Samantha the bomb. So you could scroll back. You know what I mean? What a username. That was my wrestling name if I was. ever going to be a wrestler. I've been calling myself that since like fourth grade. So I would love if you would do me the honor of introducing. So I wrote down some information here.
Starting point is 00:56:05 Okay. And I'm so excited. You think we could do this? Yeah. Okay. I'm going to get ready. Oh, we're doing the lights too. Let's go. All right. You give me the cue. Here we go. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome from Pickering, Ontario, Canada. Winging at 215 pounds, Chris V. Proud goes mild. Oh, that was amazing. Yay! Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:56:43 How do you feel? Did you like it? I could fight a bear right now. That's me. I'm like, did you like it? Is Roman Raines coming? in here next, I will take that championship off of him. Oh, gosh, he can't get an intro right now. It's too early. He shows up. That was amazing. Oh, good. Starting point is 00:57:57 I'm grateful for my daughter. She's given me so much purpose. She's just helped me. She's just helped me. Just figure it all out. What kind of woman do I want to be? What kind of mother does she deserve? And that's helped everything else fall into place.
Starting point is 00:58:15 So my daughter, I'm grateful for. For my fiance who loves me, he checks on me, he cares, he thinks about me all the time, and he cares about me. I'm grateful for him. I'm grateful for our friendship and our relationship and we better each other. I'm saying a lot of people. It's great. It all falls under the umbrella of God, but I'm grateful for my siblings. I'm the oldest of six kids, and I help raise them. And they also give me so much purpose and I'm I just I have a community of a close tight community of people who love me. So that's what I'm most grateful for. I love that. Before we wrap this up, talking about, you know, being six siblings, having six siblings, there's this video that you

So incredibly talented. And I love. And I love how she brings like a big match feel to what she does on the mic as a ring announcer.
