Investing Billions - E243: The Gift Hidden Inside The Biggest Crisis
Episode Date: November 16, 2025What happens when you’re forced to face your biggest fear? In this solo episode, David Weisburd shares a deeply personal reflection on how moments of crisis can become the crucible that forges stre...ngth, resilience, and clarity. Drawing inspiration from Lloyd Blankfein’s reflections on the 2008 financial crisis, David explores why confronting your greatest fears—rather than avoiding them—can transform you into a more powerful, anti-fragile version of yourself. From Joe Rogan’s public reckoning to founders who rebuilt stronger after near-death moments, this episode unpacks the paradox of hardship: how the moments that almost break you often become the foundation for your greatest breakthroughs.

Today I want to talk about the Herculean tasks, the 12 tasks that Hercules had to go through
in the context of the most difficult tasks that we have to go through in our lives.
I was just re-listening to the episode with Lloyd Blank Fine,
where Alphacin's CEO, Jack Coco, interviewed him, episode 232.
And he said that the thing that he reflected back on his career, that he was most
proud of was helping navigate Goldman Sachs through the global financial crisis in 2008.
And of course, this is somewhat of a paradox where this was also the most trying and most
difficult time in his career.
I had been going through some personal issues as well, literally within my entire scope
of my biggest fears being realized and frankly I've never been more empowered going through these
trials and tribulations. I've been thinking a lot about the takeaways from this.
One potential takeaway, which I will leave to you is to manufacture a crisis in your number one fear.
Of course, this is not something I necessarily recommend, but there's something incredibly powerful
in being attacked in the attack vector that you most fear and it has been holding you back from
achieving and actualizing yourself. Joe Rogan had this experience when they tried to cancel and
take away his voice several years ago. Some of the top founders that I know have come back
in a very anti-fragile way from near-death experiences and specifically in areas where they're most
afraid of. Perhaps the advice is not manufacture crisis or try to create a crisis in your most
feared aspect of your life. But perhaps the answer is if and when that time comes and that
judgment day comes when you must confront the number one fear that you have. And that fire comes,
walk through that fire with pride and with hope, knowing that if you survive this crucible,
moment in your career, you will come out significantly stronger. I know this sounds cliche,
but this is something that I am close to and in the midst of overcoming myself. I find it extremely
powerful and frankly I wish I would have confronted these fears and myself years ago. That's it for
today's episode of how I invest. If this conversation gave you new insights or ideas, do me a quick
