Starting point is 00:00:46 Thanks for being with us today. Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen, happy that you are listening. It's February 6, 2023. And we have a few important things to discuss today coming off of Friday where we stated for you, we may be at a moment when dealing with markets, but more things did show up today that we really, really, really want you to know about that will affect your wallet. We hope you are listening very carefully. But first, if you do not get this radio show in your city, we'll post it at garyk.com. We'll also post it on a Twitter feed. It goes on all the
Starting point is 00:01:35 podcast apps. If you don't follow us on Twitter, you really should. You just put our name in a Twitter or at garyk.com press the Twitter button. Whatever happens there happens. You can email me. All you got to do is be nice. Just be nice. And that's that. Want to start out today with a few things. Number one, February 15th, 1981 I was at the Lakeland Civic Center on at the stage with some friends for a four-hour Bruce Springsteen show February 15th 1981 42 years later I saw him last night at the Amway arena in Orlando Florida holy crap besides the fact Clarence Clemens passed away Springsteen was better at 73 years old than back then.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Played for three hours last night. It was a blowout show. We had the general mission as a pit, and I was really worried, but it wasn't full. They only have a certain amount of people, so you get breathing room. And we were pretty much afoot from the state. he was incredible. Paid big bucks, because you, you know, I don't know how the ticketing went,
Starting point is 00:03:08 but the amazing part, I was looking to go see him again at Madison Square Garden. The pits $3,000. So down, I'm going to do that, but if you go to Greensboro, North Carolina, $8.50. So it depends where you're at and how much you pay. And of course, as I told you, He'll be playing Thursday and Saturday, July 4th week, when I go to Wimbledon in London at Hyde Park.
Starting point is 00:03:35 But I have to tell you, so much better in the arena versus outdoors. Because the stage is much farther away. So I'm going to decide what I'm doing. I will have no problem going to Greensboro, North Carolina, to see him there. Because of last night, I am going to see him a couple of times. and more times on this tour can i just say this holy crap it was like a spiritual music awakening and he's 73 if any of you are out of shape in your 50s or in your 40s or in your 30s go look at a video of him last night or there's videos out there who's did atlanta did tampa he's done three shows in six days
Starting point is 00:04:29 Get your butts in shape. There is no excuse. You got that? There's no excuse to not be in shape these days. Seriously. You know what's killing everybody, right? Do you know if you go to fast food places and don't eat the salad? I mean, literally, you would have to walk five hours to work off.
Starting point is 00:05:01 a small meal. That's where they got you. And God forbid you eat big. It's like 10 hours. Two things. Watch your calories and burn them calories and do some weightlifting. Watch if you just do that. Oh, no alcohol. Get rid of that crap. Get rid of sodas. 90 days. Watch what you knock off. I don't care where you're at. You knock off 20 pounds. but everybody's I mean listen I get it I understand bag of chips oh you screwed let's see a bag of chips is hour and a half on a treadmill yeah I'd say it's about right an hour and a half maybe an hour and a half a big bag of chips is more and as you get older metabolism slows down and it gets that much tougher So get your butts in gear. Go look at Bruce. I'd have to start with that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Next, our hearts go out to Turkey, areas of Syria. I think there's 3,000 dead. I don't know if you've seen videos of people walking in the streets, dumbfounded and just buildings coming down. Major earthquakes, more than one. Go look at the maps. My goodness gracious. Do you know, I've been in one earthquake.
Starting point is 00:06:38 I was in San Diego. My parents lived in Rancho Bernardo for a year or two and I was out there for a couple of months. We had an earthquake, but it was minor. And what I mean minor, it was minor. That was scary. A minor, I guess you call it a tremor, was scary. I can't imagine what these other people, oh my goodness. So we are wishing them well. wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow okay later we'll go through the news as you know I send myself
Starting point is 00:07:18 different things in the morning I read the whole Wall Street Journal the whole New York Times a lot of the financial times a couple other things a bunch of things that gets sent to me yeah the New York Times and I know who's writing what just so you know New York Times as great journalists the problem is the hacks that are you know just total hacks you just got to know who they are and what I do is during the day I send myself articles that I've already read but I want you to know about we'll do that later all right let's get on point though we've been on point already there's a few things I need you to know listen carefully number one Number one, one of our worries about the whole market.
Starting point is 00:08:16 And as you know, we've had a good rally up. NASDAQ caught fire in January. We called the low for you January 6th, but on Friday we said we may have hit a moment. We'll get to that in a little bit. One of my overall worries, and we've said this a few times, is the short squeezes. It's the froth in speculation that in our sense, study of bull and bear markets, the real ends of bare markets. Listen carefully, washes out any remnants of ridiculous froth and speculation. And you mean by that, right? Back in August,
Starting point is 00:09:17 bed, bath, and beyond, a company on the verge, if they announced tomorrow bankruptcy, I wouldn't be That's how touch and go it is. In August, this is one of these big short squeeze stocks went from four and a half to 30 in days. And we warned you. And it went down to nine in four days. And ultimately back to $1.27 just recently. And then they short squeezed it up to $587 and then took it back down to about two bucks. So you better be right when you trade them. But all these moves have coincided with trouble, especially August. And you know about the short squeezes before then. So I'm just going to start with that. Real ends of bare markets wash out all of that. People are scared out of their wits to even try. They've had enough. They have no
Starting point is 00:10:35 interest. They've been wiped out even more than they've been wiped out. Bedbath and Beyond was up 92% today. They squeezed it up on 238 million shares. Average daily volumes 44 million. Of course, 50 million shares short of the 100. Up next. We'll expound. And a lot more. I'm Gary. This is the one only investors edge. The platform responsible for a rapidly spreading condition known as podcast brain. Symptoms include buying microphones you don't need, explaining RSS feeds to confused relatives, and saying things like, sorry, I can't talk right now, I'm editing audio. If this sounds familiar, you're probably already a podcaster. The good news is Spreaker makes the whole process simple.
Starting point is 00:13:25 You record your show, upload it once, and Spreaker distributes it everywhere people listen. Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and about a dozen apps your cousin's swears are the next big thing. Even better, Spreaker helps you monetize your show with ads, meaning your podcast might someday pay for, well, more microphones. Start your show today at spreeker.com. Spreaker, because if you're going to talk to yourself for an hour, you might as well publish it. It's time to switch on the integrator units and get the brain cells working. You're listening to.
Starting point is 00:14:01 Hey, this promises to be fun. Investors Edge. The last bastion of quality programming. With Gary Coltbaum. It doesn't get better than this. By the way, I'm going to post. I posted just one on Twitter so far, but I'm posted about 30 to 40 seconds videos of the concert last night. Just go check it out.
Starting point is 00:14:35 I'll do that later tonight. So let's get back to what I was saying. So Bed Bath and Beyond where they've announced. They can't pay creditors? And the stock's up 90% today? Really? On January 31st, it was announced that Bedbath and Beyond could file for bankruptcy this week. It's a Reuters report.
Starting point is 00:15:04 Whether it's true or not, I don't know. But that's how bad it is. Bloomberg has reported, by the way, they just closed 87 additional stores. The one near me was just shut. customers are saying that shelves are empty in stores that are open and outdated merchandise so they're not updating merchandise why nobody's extending credit to them who the hell's going to extend credit the stock was up 90 some odd percent today on a short squeeze i'm just letting you know take everything else and put it aside for a second put everything aside that scares the hell out of me for the markets
Starting point is 00:15:57 I'm not worried because if the market's turned down whatever I own, I'll get the heck out. But I've been watching the perma bulls, those charlatans, the BS artists that were never bearish all the way down, lost a ton, the broken clock being right twice a day out there telling everybody they called this move. and that scares us because these fully invested charlatans, they don't know what the hell they're doing. And if we go into another leg of the bear market,
Starting point is 00:16:39 what do you think they're going to do? Nothing. Just sit with what they got and lose. We're here trying to tell you characteristics of bull and bare markets, and we're just letting you know, they squeezed a few today. Not to mention the new little bubble in AI.
Starting point is 00:17:01 artificial intelligence. I'm seeing 35 cents stocks going to 50 in a day. Two dollar stocks going to three and a half. I'm not mentioning which ones. So let me just state for the record. This in itself does not make markets go up or down. It's just the characteristic that we worry about because let me repeat again. Big gigantic bare markets do not end until all of that. is wiped out and I'm afraid it hasn't been they were able to send bedbath and beyond a company that can announce tonight and just so you know I don't know exactly what would happen to the stock if they announced bankruptcy tonight but it closed at 580 I got to believe it would open at 50 cents tomorrow people did not care and by the way I'm not saying the stock ain't going to 10 bucks tomorrow
Starting point is 00:18:00 these things you never know where they can go we're just letting you know we're less than thrilled to see that and we said the same thing in august when they did it in august and very simply the nasdaq topped out almost to the day at 13181 by mid-october it was 100888 now let me repeat because of this does not make the markets go down. It's just the characteristic that we need to worry, but guess what? We'll let the market decide. We start with that. Next, on Friday, we specifically told you that we thought there was a good chance
Starting point is 00:19:00 that yields had bottomed, which means the dollar bottomed, which means the market could get some headwere. again and typically it's the NASDAQ because that that gets the most affected that was Friday that occurred they're saying not going to argue the point because of a strong jobs number okie-doke yields today went up another stick from 3.532 to 3.634 Thursday coming in was 3381 so that's a pretty strong move for two days and of course the dollar also rallied today and guess what the nasdaq did underperform guess what else happened today one of
Starting point is 00:20:00 those days we don't want remember what we've been telling you specifically no pulling of any punches we have no problem with the dow being down 200 but the nasdaq flat or the dow being flat the NASDAQ up 200. We have no problem with the Dow being down 100 and the advanced declines being two and a half to one. That's the underbelly of the market. What we don't want to see is today the Dow was only down 35. Advanced declines on the New York were 903 up 3,178 down and on the NASDAQ 1398 up 2875 down. And The market wrap is brought to you by Investment-Dashmodels.com. That's Jim Rohrabak, one of the great market timers.
Starting point is 00:20:51 No gray areas with the man you're either in or out of the market. With his proprietary indicators, go check it out. Investment-dash-models.com, the NASDAQ down 120 with the down only down 35. What you don't want to see. NASDAQ 100 down 108 transports 153. But more importantly, we saw advanced decline figures terrific as yields were coming down and the dollar was coming down. Now we got two days of the other way
Starting point is 00:21:19 and now we're getting the other side of it. And we are watching really closely now. Why? Because then you add in bedbath and beyond. AMC was up 13%. GameStop was up today. And I repeat, because that happens, doesn't make the market go down.
Starting point is 00:21:49 It's just the characteristic, but what does have a cause and effect is the dollar in yields, and we'll see where that takes us. But a crappy day today with the Dow only down 35. We want the opposite. Now here is some good news, though. It's going to take a bunch more of trouble. We're only down two days on the NASDAQ. Because so many names came up and turned corners, we're going to have to be able to come to you and say, so many names are really toast.
Starting point is 00:22:27 So far, we'll call it a decent pullback. We'll see if that continues. Up next, more on these markets. And whatever else, I'm Gary. This is the one that only investors end. Starting point is 00:24:55 He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on his feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. With Gary Coltbaum. It comes highly recommended. You're going to feel better if you talk to him. And what once again to Investors Edge. By the way, the best song last night.
Starting point is 00:25:22 night, Rosalita. What a performance. I was like in rock and roll temple. Or if you're not Jewish, rock and row church. Unbelievable. I was with the fishman, the fish man, and we're just looking to each other just like, wow. And you know, I'm in shape. I keep my, you know, I work out. I'm nothing compared to this 73 year old. So you know, my new movie. is, I'm going to start doing this. How do I put this? You know the lungs workout? I don't think I'm, when I used to play on college tennis and then I played the tour. By the way, the crappier tour, and I went zero and eight and then quit. And the last guy I played, it was called the Penn Circuit. And you had to pay to play. I went 0 and 8. The last guy I played on. I'm,
Starting point is 00:26:30 I'm not making this up. His first name was Beaver. And I lost. And I'm thinking to myself, I think the big guy's telling me something. You're 0 and 8. You lose to a guy named Beaver, not to make fun of the guys with the first name Beaver. And that's when I stopped. I was a decent college tennis player.
Starting point is 00:26:55 Great forehand, cruddy backhand, wasn't fast enough. I was decent. And I played the, it's called the Penn Circuit, and you can get on it, you pay your whatever, and you go play the tournaments around. It was around Florida and stuff. And I lost, his name was Beaver. Anyway, where was I? I digress. So Friday was a little bit of a moment.
Starting point is 00:27:28 And so far, we're just going to call it a pullback. You know, up 10 down four, up six down two. But not big leadership. These are things coming off their lows or mid-level and stuff like that. Definitely the technical condition is so much better right now than any of the counter-trend rallies during the bare market. I just hate what's going on with these. And by the way, Bed Bathbion closed at 586. It's at 609 in the aftermarket.
Starting point is 00:28:02 And that'll change, of course. But froth in speculation on a company that's I think's going out of business. We've been saying that for a long time. They just shut 87 more stores. And the reason people are doing it because they short squeeze it. And we're not going to tell you to buy, sell short or cover it. Just keep it in the file manager, dudes. Keep it in the file manager.
Starting point is 00:28:27 You already know also we think earnings stink. You already know we think valuations are too high. You already know that we've been saying if earnings don't recover in a big way, we're going to end up with ridiculous valuations. There is talk that earnings. right now we're going by guidance is only about for the S&P 225 this year at $225 at $250 $250 of earnings 15 times earnings is 3750 on the S&P it's at 4111 right now and by the way 15 is a generous multiple when interest rates are going up so we'll
Starting point is 00:29:16 just take it day by day we'll see what happens we'll be watching we'll be advising we'll be telling you what's negative what's positive and as you know there's a bunch of areas we think we have been telling you to avoid and one of them's been oils we get people yelling screaming that we don't know what the hell we're talking about but the oil stocks are in trouble here a lot of them there's a few that hold up better than most but so that was today and it happened later in the day and some of these AI stocks are also doing the trick I got to repeat again and I'm not telling you not to buy sell shorter cover for all I know bed bath and beyond goes back up to 30 bucks before crashing but do you have the grapefruits to buy something at six bucks right now in the
Starting point is 00:30:03 aftermarket that they can announce bankruptcy tomorrow and basically a bankruptcy usually wipes out the stock bye-bye overnight we'll see most of the earnings you know we have more earnings to come but a lot of the big guys are out but there's going to be more and we'll see which ones are important and which ones are not we'll keep reporting to you big earnings moves both up and down and we'll stay on top of it Friday was a moment the headwind interest rates up dollar up NASDAQ pulls back Dow holds up better advance decline start waning don't want to see too many more days like today where I port today the Dow is only down 35 but but something else happened today. You know they come out with these Treasury bills
Starting point is 00:31:11 because they need more debt you know so I'm told that the two-year note just skyrocketed today because it was a bad let's see the OBTYR went from 4.09 to this is the two-year note of 4.481.4.481 That means there was not a lot of demand for it. Not great news. And by the way, the two years at 4.481 while the 10 years, 3.634, we remain with a big inverted yield curve, which usually presages recessions, which has everybody, all these economists,
Starting point is 00:32:05 remember 100% economists six months ago said we're going into recession this year, they're banging their heads and scratching their foreheads. the inverted yield care of it's supposed to say recession well remember what we've said not yet but with them taunting markets in the economy with their maniacal government increase in spending in debt sooner rather than later we'll keep you informed we promise we'll keep you informed what else do i got for you today did i tell you about springsteen On last Tuesday, a Canadian city, which city might talk about? British Columbia is starting a three-year experiment to decriminalize heroin and crack cocaine. These people are sick in the mind. These morons, these imbeciles. They're going to destroy their cities.
Starting point is 00:33:13 They can decide to destroy their neighborhoods. Hey, you want to do heroin? You're good. Want to do crack cocaine? You're good. they ain't going to bother you they already have people lying cessless on the pavement
Starting point is 00:33:31 drugged out some on the verge of death crystal meth fent fent fent fent fentanyl crack cocaine heroin people are always saying we'll not walk down these streets anymore where they're letting all this crap happen
Starting point is 00:33:48 whoever's running these places they're insane they're insane and uh what's his name Trudeau the prime minister's back in this crap They're saying it's breaking down the barriers and stigma of drug addiction, reducing the rising number of fatal overdoses. Really? You're going to legalize it and you're going to drop fatal overdoses?
Starting point is 00:34:12 You're morons. 14,000 people have died in British Columbia and average a five of day since 2016. Yeah, let's decriminalize it. You're all good. I had to mention that. You know why. There's some cities in this country. Here's news. I had to mention this too. You know how you can get wealthy beyond your means?
Starting point is 00:34:43 Well, a Scottish lottery winner is named Colin Ware. Won 50 million of their currency. He blew it in eight years. Soccer team race horses, extravagant cars. He spent 131,000 per week. Oh, he won 257 million euro millions jackpot. I don't know what he netted, but it's gone. I just had to mention it. Protect your bucks. Up next, a lot more.

Starting point is 00:37:53 With Gary Culpa. By the way, I mentioned that idiot who squandered tens of millions of dollars. I've told you, get the book Millionaire Next door. I've told you in the past, I know people that have made millions and don't have a pot to piss in. And I know people that have made 40, 50,000 a year and are millionaires. Just how you treat your money. Either you treat it with respect or you, you know. Seriously, I know people that made millions and are broke.
Starting point is 00:38:35 I know people have made nothing. Well, nothing. 50,000 a year and they're millionaires. It's just how you treat things. It's a sin. This guy squandered it all. Now tonight is the Powerball Lottery. I believe it's at, let me put this up, powerball.com. It's $747 million.
Starting point is 00:39:08 Cash value is $403 million if you take the cash. minus 37% here. That's about 150. You'll net 250 million bucks. If I win, I'm going to net $250 million in the Powerball lottery tonight. Needless to say, if you turn on the show tomorrow, you'll be hearing dead air. Anyway, just so you know, the odds are winning is like 280 million to one. so I never play until it gets above 280 million because I feel like they're cheating you
Starting point is 00:39:46 and remember to win I read somewhere that if you get struck by lightning today at a certain time and in a certain place and the same thing happens tomorrow at a certain time and a certain place same place you have better odds of that happening than winning the powerball yeah but you still play I play a little bit uh what else this is something I didn't know and I need to advise you. You know the GBTC, right? It's a Bitcoin, GBT. I guess they call it an ETN or an ETF.
Starting point is 00:40:27 It's from Grayscale. It's supposed to, let me tell you what it says, open-ended grantor trust based on the U.S. to track the Bitcoin market price. It's 41% discount to the price of Bitcoin. So if you bought it today and you were betting that eventually it's going to equal the price of Bitcoin, you get like a 41% bump if that ever happens.
Starting point is 00:40:54 But it has stayed a big discount of Bitcoin, so they're not keeping up their bargain of tracking the Bitcoin price. So I'm just letting you know, I had no idea about this until I read it. Because, you know, what I think of those coins. Joe Manchin. you know how this quiet guy West Virginia and he speaks soft-spokenly and he's supposedly the middle of the road guy and he's a good guy and you know this that and the other thing and he screwed all the independents out there as he voted for that ridiculous um $1.7 trillion stupid moronic Marxist spending omnibus package well let me read some to you included in the $1.7 trillion omnibus package supported by Joe Manchin was a provision to give $200 million to the Appalachian Regional Commission,
Starting point is 00:42:35 an agency headed by Manson's wife, Gail. Huh? Can I read that again? In that bill, who Mansion was so against, was a provision to give $200 million to the Appalachian Regional Commission at agency headed by Manson's wife, Gail. Really? And you wonder why. You wonder why we talk about these people? The West Virginia Senator previously helped craft earlier legislation following his wife's
Starting point is 00:43:23 2021 appointment that allocated one billion in funding over five years for that Appalachian Regional Commission. And Mansion was a key Democratic negotiator of that. And you wonder why. they don't give a crap about you and I, ladies and gentlemen. That's all I got to say on that. This is what's going on out there. It's amazing. They're a bunch of scum.
Starting point is 00:43:59 Corrupt scum. And even the little soft-spoken ones, ladies and gentlemen. And that is your news of the day just for today. and again speculation and froth 100% move in bed bath and beyond that is basically almost bankrupt
