Now from the BizTalk Studios, here is Gary Cultbaum. And welcome once again to Investors Edge. I'm Gary Colbom, your host day. Thanks for being with us today.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen. Happy that you are listening. It is Thursday. It is March 27th, 2025 as we head into the end of the quarter. May I state for the record, a crappy day in the market today could have been a lot worse, could have been a lot better. And a real crappy close will explain a little bit. In case you don't know, this is serious talk on everything that affects you. We will do the markets.
Starting point is 00:01:17 We'll do the economy. Your job, your industry, doge, tariffs, debt and deficits, scam, shams, corruption. You name it. We will absolutely, we promise to cover it. no agenda, ulterior motive, or bias. And if you do not get this radio show in your city, we'll post it at garyk.com. We'll also post on our Twitter feed,
Starting point is 00:01:37 which is now X, and if you don't follow us on X, you should. And if you like to email us, just be nice. And by the way, we've had a handful of people disagreeing with me on tariffs. They don't disagree on the definition of tariffs. they are disagreeing with me on my worry about the tariffs and what the outcome is going to be. They're all thinking that this is a necessary thing to do because we've been screwed for so long and this, that, and the other thing, and I don't disrespect any of that.
Starting point is 00:02:19 My issue is, and it's a simple issue, how did we get the $30 trillion of, of an economy if we're getting screwed so much. Just a little thought. And do not forget the definition of tariffs. It is a tax. A tax is a tax is a tax. And we'll get into that in a little bit. But ladies and gentlemen,
Starting point is 00:02:50 I got to start with something else. We're going to do right into the markets. I want to start with a jackass is at GameStop. What? Why would you talk GameStop? Well, let me tell you what these jackasses did. So they report earnings. First off, as you know, this is a company under with a lot of trouble, with a lot of meme, stock, whatever you want to call it, that moron, the kitty guy, whatever his name was.
Starting point is 00:03:28 I don't know if he's still involved, just an absolute moron. by the way I'd say it to his face. So GameStop reports numbers. Sales were down 28%. They are going to be shutting a bunch of stores. But earnings were up because of shutting a lot of things, working on the expense side, and the stock rallies. The day before it closes at 2540, the next day it closes at 2836,
Starting point is 00:04:01 hit almost 30. So just remember, they report the earnings. What did they do the next day? They take out the big gigantic... You know those big fat fingers you have if you go to these sporting events? They're usually the index finger, right? Well, the GameStop people took out a big fat finger, but really the middle finger at their shareholders.
Starting point is 00:04:24 So today it was down 22%, down 6.5 to 22 bucks. Because they decided the day after they report earnings, the day after, and the stocks up, to say we are going to do a secondary offering through a convertible. And guess what they are going to do with the money? It's stunning. I repeat, it's stunning. They're going to buy Bitcoin. I want you to think about this. These imbeciles are going to do a one point.
Starting point is 00:05:06 3 billion convertible bond offering that can be converted into stock, the proceeds to buy Bitcoin. You know the Bitcoin that drops 75% in its last bare market? I don't know where Bitcoin is right now, but I know it's down how much from the recent high? Bitcoin, you know, the thing without, I think it's down about 20%. The thing that has no earnings, no sales, no earnings, no sales, no product, no service, no nothing. just the hope that somebody's going to pay a higher price for whatever this thing is, and that's what they're hoping. It's a hope.
Starting point is 00:05:50 Notice they didn't say we're going to buy Ethereum, because nobody's talking about Ethereum anymore because it's crashed. Nobody's talking about Ethereum, even though they told us, you got to own Ethereum because it's the blockchain. It's the main blockchain of this, that, and the other thing, and you've got to own it. They don't talk about that. You know what else they don't talk about? My little website that I can go to that lists 32,000 coins that came out.
Starting point is 00:06:30 Most of them zero. And to be fair, there are coins that are worth billions at this point in time. Have you ever heard of Pepe? We're $3.5 billion. You try selling. I don't even know what to say. I hope you were not caught in it. They're nuts.
Starting point is 00:07:03 They're nuts. That's the only way I can explain it. And they gave the big fat, juicy middle finger to anybody who decided to buy the stock off of an earnings report. Amazing. to buy Bitcoin. And now they'll be in hope and prayer mode. Hope and prayer mode that things are going to go their way.
Starting point is 00:07:32 And again, there's 32,000 coins out there that they try to foist upon the public. I'm looking right now, I mean the list is just gargantuan. And I don't want you to forget that people like Dennis Rodman came out with a coin, the pot coin went to zero. I'm done. And let me just state for the record, it pisses me off.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Next. So the tariffs. I got asked today who I think the winners and losers. I got to tell you just off the top of my head what happened today. So Avis budget renter car was up 12 today to 74 because I'm told. they sell a lot of use cars. The use car business. I'm told, and obviously it happened today,
Starting point is 00:08:31 AutoZone was up 4%. O'Reilly Automotive up 2.5%. Why would that be? Well, because, you guessed it, there's going to be a lot of cars not bought now. I wonder and I worry for, at least here, BMWs, Mercedes, and I was watching my friend Dagan McDowell today on Fox Business. She hosts a couple of shows. Little did I know that this is not going to be an easy thing to figure out because American Auto Labeling Act have to report percentages of
Starting point is 00:09:20 parts and all that, and they report U.S. and Canada together. They don't differentiate. They don't separate. Yet now Canada now has a 25% tariff on parts. So I don't know how the hell they're going to figure that crap out. GM stock was hit today. I don't know. Now, everybody thought Ferrari would get hit, but they said it's not going to affect them.
Starting point is 00:09:49 I don't know why it wouldn't. So that was up today, $13, though the stock had already dropped $100-some odd dollars in about six weeks. I'm not sure. Here's what I do know. Now, excuse me, here's what I believe. There is no way these tariffs are going to last. That's what I believe. I watch some people who are big Trump fans today do.
Starting point is 00:10:24 folding themselves into pretzels trying to tell you how great these tariffs are with just a lot of bull crap. There is nothing good about these tariffs. They tell us, well, we want more manufacturing here. We want more of the parts made here. We want more of the cars made here.
Starting point is 00:10:48 Why I got to tell you? That's a good goal. But you know how long it's going to take? a long while. Do you think it's going to be that easy to move things and do things? But in the meantime, who's going to buy a BMW
Starting point is 00:11:08 and pay $60,000 for a $50,000 car? I'm not. Up next, we'll put a bow tie on it. I'm Gary. This is the one-only Investor's Edge. Starting point is 00:14:19 The last bastion of quality programming. With Gary Coltbaum. It doesn't get better than this. So, we are being told there is no such animal as an 100% made in America car because so many things come from so many different places. So I have a question for the administration. You have a car. It's being made. But the steering wheel comes from another place.
Starting point is 00:14:52 And a gasket comes from a different country. And some wiring comes from a third country. And so on and so forth. I'd like to know who's going to be the monitor. I'd like to know who's going to monitor all this. What if there are 50 different things? things that go into a car from 10 different countries. Who's going to start taking inventory?
Starting point is 00:15:31 And then the next question, what's next? Who's next? And what will be the reaction and the repercussions? Do you think those other places are just going to stand there or sit there? And what if the BMW store stops selling cars? because who wants to pay 25% more? Or the Mercedes, who wants to pay 25% more? And then what if because they can't sell these cars,
Starting point is 00:16:18 they're just going to fire 10 people. Well, here's what's going to happen. Write this down. The president's going to blink within a month. You're going to hear the word exemptions one after the other. I can all but promise you there is no way, shape, or form this will stand. And the reason is, it will create chaos in the automobile industry, which by the way, is a pretty big industry.
Starting point is 00:16:56 In case you do not know, I'm sure you won't understand, I think these are mistakes. if you are trying to get other countries to do certain things, why not say to them first, if you do not do this by a certain date, this is what we're going to do on this date. That way there can be preparations. Nobody could have prepared for this. Do you know why?
Starting point is 00:17:37 He's changed his mind five times. I'll make that 10. So I'm just letting you know, write this down again. I give it 30 days. You're going to hear the word exemptions. This will not last. And the reason being, because it can't. You are taunting the economy.
Starting point is 00:18:10 You are taunting the decision-making of business people in a gargantuan industry. You are taunting the word uncertainty in that decision-making. we'll keep you up to date on it. I wish I had his ear, but even if I did, he'd probably laugh at me. But that's okay. That's what makes markets. Disagreement.
Starting point is 00:18:47 We'll see how it plays out, ladies and gentlemen. We switch over to the markets. Well, let me state for the record, they were kind of sort of all over the map today. I saw 150 point Dow move up in five minutes. What has my interest today is into the close today. The NASDAQ in three minutes went from 1780-790, 80 points in three minutes right at the close. The NASDAQ was back to flat after being down pretty good and dropped 80 points in three minutes.
Starting point is 00:19:32 The Dow finished down 155 S&P 8. NASDAQ 94, NASDAQ 118. The transports were even down, even though CAR, that Ava's budget was up 12 today. And it was just, bleh. Gold was strong. The auto parts retail was strong. China had a good day today. Some retail had a decent day today, but they've been blasted.
Starting point is 00:20:05 The food, beverage, tobacco contingent had a good day today. They bounced up restaurants today, but they've been blasted also. Insurance was okay. What was not okay, semiconductors. The AI trade, just not good. Broadcom, one of the stronger AI semiconductor chip companies broke the 200-day moving average yesterday and dropped another seven bucks today and quite easily. Nvidia another two bucks today all the way down to 111 at this juncture, down from 153.
Starting point is 00:20:49 As I look to my left, those stocks that gap down on that AI Monday, Deep Seek Monday, got trashed again today. Not good news. Software, not a good day. I don't have much again there are some areas that stand out there are some names that stand out but the M in market is the big Maha hovering over everything and I can just tell you
Starting point is 00:21:19 I'm not thrilled with the fact that the institutions came in into the close today and said see ya see you so I wish I had better news for you The other thing that very much was sticking out today from the get-go, Goldman Sachs was down $21 at the open today. And when the market rallied, it was only down 8 and still finished down 15. It's a real big financial that I follow, and the other big banks came in also. But I watched that closely.
Starting point is 00:22:04 I mentioned the semiconductors. ew. Oils pull back today, they've been acting better, especially the big oil. I'm not so sure I have anything else that really sticks out. Again, at the close today, they knocked the stuffings out of the big indices at the close today. I was told Tesla is a benefit, benefits from what's going on. What was said, 87% of Tesla is made here. Up next, we'll keep covering it. This is the one only investor's edge.
Starting point is 00:22:53 It's no use putting it off. The best time for an underwear refresh is now. Tommy John underwear is designed for a perfect fit that stays put all day. Their zero-chafe thanks to four times more stretch than competing brands, and their innovative horizontal quick-drop fly is a game changer. This episode is brought to you by Spreaker. The platform responsible for a rapidly spreading condition known as podcast brain. Symptoms include buying microphones you don't need, explaining RSS feeds to confused relatives, and saying things like, sorry, I can't talk right now, I'm editing audio.
Starting point is 00:24:28 If this sounds familiar, you're probably already a podcaster. The good news is, Spreaker makes the whole process simple. You record your show, upload it once, and Spreaker distributes it everywhere people listen. Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and about a dozen apps your cousin swears are the next big thing. Even better, Spreaker helps you monetize your show with ads, meaning your podcast might someday pay for, well, more microphones. Start your show today at spreeker.com. Sprinker, because if you're going to talk to yourself for an hour, you might as well publish it. We're listening to America is talking.
Starting point is 00:25:09 Investors Edge. He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on his feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. With Gary Colbomb. It comes highly recommended. You're going to feel better if you talk to him. Hey, yo.
Starting point is 00:25:41 Well, I got Lulu Lemon reporting after the close they missed estimates. They lowered their numbers. Oh, well, and I, you know, I've always wondered in a price conscious world, when you can get things for so much cheaper that are pretty much, but I guess that's why people buy, you know, Michael Jordan's shoes versus, you know, something else, I guess that. Anyway, Lulu Lemon, not acting well. It's been the bare market and now closed at 341.
Starting point is 00:26:16 I got a 319 in the aftermarket. Ouch. And the stock is trading. It's down from September of 2020. And the high was 516. It's 320. Ew. Back on the Tesla thing.
Starting point is 00:26:35 So I'm told that Tesla's most made in America. That their Model 3, 88% of the car comes from here. So Tesla today, well, unfortunately. hit a high today of $292 and close at $273, up a dollar on the day. So it was up like $19, but could not stay up because the market sucks. It's the type of market you're in right now. And again, I just don't have much more to tell you except it's under distribution. I love the action in Spotify, Palantir, Netflix, DoorDame,
Starting point is 00:27:22 symbol S.E. Would I own them at this juncture? I just, not with this market. Nope. T-Mobile, strong. And that's on the little defensive side. By the way, AT&T, New Yearly High. AT&T. What are these two things? Defensive.
Starting point is 00:27:46 You should see my AT&T bill. So I wish I had better things to report to you. and may I state for the record I'm real worried about the tariffs I'm real worried about the tariffs and what they can cause
Starting point is 00:28:17 in the near term I get the goal I believe it should have been done a different way if you think you're being screwed by Canada in Europe. Hey Europe. It's March 27th. Look what you're doing here. Hey Canada, look what you're doing here. We believe it's unfair. Nobody buys our cars in Europe. We keep buying yours. On June 1st, this is what we're going to do. So let's figure it out. Nope. Boom. I'm just letting you know.
Starting point is 00:29:08 It worries me. I think it's a mistake. I want to be wrong. I want them to be right. I am hoping they are right. But I will repeat again. I give it 30 days. You're going to hear the word exemptions.
Starting point is 00:29:36 And they're going to have to come off of this. there is no way a 25% tariff on auto and auto parts from over there coming in here can stand. There's no way. We'll keep covering it. What else is going on? Baseball season starts today. How about that? Baseball season starts today. which means in about 45 days I'll be disappointed with my Mets. Actually, I have hope this year. I think they've got a really good team.
Starting point is 00:30:19 I'm not worried about offense, but man, the pitching. Got to have great pitching. Great pitching wins World Series. Unless you score 11 runs a game. So baseball season starts today. Mets paid $700 billion for Soto. We'll see how that plays out. Very good player.
Starting point is 00:30:43 And that is your sports part of the day. Which takes me into you know what. It's the Doge moment because they are very active right now. They are really getting the job done. We love what they are doing. We're not thrilled on a lot of the firing. We think that should be slower, but I don't run the place. So guess what?
Starting point is 00:31:18 577 million in America last grants, they just saved 237 million of that. Do you know 10 million of our tax dollars was going, forget this, something titled, gender equity in the Mexican workplace, 10 million of our tax dollars. What could $10 million do for your city or your community? You got any homeless shelters? Need any sidewalks fixed? Any veterans that need help? How about $12.2 million for worker empowerment in South America?
Starting point is 00:31:57 What, South America doesn't have any money? We have to give them $12.2 for worker empowerment? What the hell is that? Oh, it's a payoff. How about 6.25 million for improving respect for workers' rights in agricultural supply chains, in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador? By the way, I got nothing against these places. I have everything against these Morlocks in D.C.
Starting point is 00:32:25 giving away our money for this BS. How about $5 million for elevating women's participation in the workplace in West Africa? Who got that money? 4.3 million for assisting foreign migrant workers in Malaysia. What? 3 million to enhance Social Security access and worker protections for internal migrant workers in Bangladesh. Huh? 3 million for safe and inclusive work environments in a place called Lesotho?
Starting point is 00:33:00 Let me explain what all these things are. You listening? You listening? carefully. Their payoffs. What do you need $10 million for gender equity in the Mexican workplace? What does that go to? It's people's pockets. 10 million? Ladies and gentlemen, our government has been a sin. They have abused you and I and every taxpayer like there's no tomorrow. they've been given us the middle finger they've been laughing at us and I can't wait till they hold the butts of the Stacey Abrams of the worlds
Starting point is 00:33:51 that created companies out of thin air just like I predicted for climate and nobody's asked yet how much they absconded with I can't wait till we get to go through their bank accounts and we should because it's our money. And that's your doge moment for today, ladies and gentlemen. That was a good one. And just remember, they've turned $10 million into a footnote. They've turned $10 billion into a footnote.
Starting point is 00:34:27 They've turned $100 billion into a footnote because they suck and they hate us. And it's got to stop. Is it any wonder they are cursory? Doge out, destroying Teslas. By the way, they arrested the scumbag who Molotov cocktailed a whole Tesla dealership. They got them. And they're catching all... These idiots that are king all the Teslas, they're all on video, and they're all being arrested.
Starting point is 00:35:03 And they're being paraded in front of you like they should be. the embarrassments that they are. Nothing big is going to happen to them. I doubt even jail time. But hopefully a job is lost, and hopefully a lesson is gained, that these ass clowns aren't doing anything, doesn't create anything, doesn't produce anything. They're just morons. Unbelievable. By the way, one of the women that was king of course, oh, lives in a $2 million house.
Starting point is 00:35:40 Our husband's a big mucky muck. Yeah, let's go Kia Tesla. Up next. This, that, and the other thing. Whatever else. This is the one only investor's edge. Guys, it's no use putting it off. The best time for an underwear refresh is now.

Symptoms include buying microphones you don't need, explaining RSS feeds to confuse. used relatives, and saying things like, sorry, I can't talk right now, I'm editing audio. Starting point is 00:37:29 makes the whole process simple. You record your show, upload it once, and Sprinker distributes it everywhere people listen. Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and about a dozen apps your cousin's swears are the next big thing. Even better, Sprinker helps you monetize your show with ads, meaning your podcast might someday pay for,
Starting point is 00:37:46 well, more microphones. Start your show today at spreeker.com. Spreaker, because if you're going to talk to yourself for an hour, you might as well publish it. You're listening to. What are we waiting for? Well, what are you waiting for? One, two, ready, go. Action!
Starting point is 00:38:07 In the Bester's Edge. With Gary Culpa. So I said earlier, I'm worried. And the reason is markets are very friends. fragile, especially when they're expensive. And you are increasing taxes, as the president said, hundreds of billions of dollars. Hundreds of billions of dollars are going to go into the treasury. Well, if that occurs, it's hundreds of billions of dollars in taxes.
Starting point is 00:38:57 Now, I do think here's what will happen. People are going to change. There's no way anybody's going into a Mercedes dealership. to buy a car for 50 grand and all of a sudden they tell, well, it's 60. It was 50 last month. It's 60. And I would say the same is going to go for any of these places. And I don't know which one's going to be which or which car is going to have what. But I do know where cars are made for the most part.
Starting point is 00:39:30 And I do know like Toyota, a bunch of them, I guess made in Tennessee and stuff. But a lot of a Toyota car comes from elsewhere. And I can't wait. What are they going to have that? Is somebody to itemize each car? I don't think they thought this through. And the markets, I just think they're very temperamental. That's my worry.
Starting point is 00:39:56 I think they're very temperamental. We'll keep you on top of things. We'll let you know what to avoid. What strength. And again, right now, gold, lesser extent, silver. China, but not all. There's a bunch of China stocks that are not working. You got money flows into, well, insurance, not all.
Starting point is 00:40:24 Consumer staples are better, but no great power in the earnings. Auto parts dealers, retailers, as I said. MasterCard and Visa act pretty well. The waste management companies, the ones who pick up your garbage. that's where strength is and there's a smattering oh I mentioned AT and T and T mobile and that's defensive
Starting point is 00:40:53 your phone bills and AT&T I guess what that's direct TV also and whatever else they have and if anything changes we'll let you know today had a chance to be better and they sold it off into the clothes which sucks tomorrow's another day
Starting point is 00:41:15 and we'll see how plays out By the way, auto dealers got hit today. Not CarMax. There are a lot of used cars. But Auto Nation, Lithium Motors, Penske Motors, and the like. So some repercussions out there. What's that other one? Group 1 Automotive.
Starting point is 00:41:46 And Tesla was up today telling you something. I wish we can give you better. we love coming on this show and say, boy, here's your growth leadership. Do you remember January 5th of 24 when we said to you, if Nvidia breaks above 505, buy the hell out of it? And on Monday, the 8th, it did that and went up 90% in like two months. We want to find those. But in order to find those, there has to be those. they have to set up
Starting point is 00:42:29 and there's nary one gold gold miners some china names not growth so what we do right now is we watch and we are in recognition
Starting point is 00:42:47 of what holds up best Netflix holds up best DoorDash holds up best Spotify holds up best Macado Libre holds up best and then the rest In other news, good move by the Republican Party today. Ms. Stephanick was going to be the UN ambassador.
Starting point is 00:43:11 She's going back to the House because they don't have a big enough lead in the House to get their tax cuts extended. So they're going to look elsewhere. Good move, politically. I would have done the same thing, because I got news for you. You don't move anything without the House. You don't move anything without the house. Kennedy Jr. is planning 10,000 job cuts in the health department.
Starting point is 00:43:52 And I said, boy, 10,000? There's 90,000 people in the health department. I always ask myself, is that a lot or is that not? There's just a lot of people in government, ladies and gentlemen. Man, oh man, that they create. The greatest bull market in history is our government. the greatest bull market in history. What do I think it's going to take to really turn the market?
Starting point is 00:44:30 I don't know. On days like today, when I see Goldman Sachs down 15, when I see an important software security stock like Palo Alto Networks, drop 10 bucks and just breaking down, it's not today. When I don't see leading stocks and leading groups in the growth arena doing things that you want to see, We're not here yet. But I can promise you this, just like we do the avoid part, which we've done very nicely for you, if things show up, we'll be yapping away. But you need to know, and I hope you listened, the AI trade is dead meat right now and is only worsened.
Starting point is 00:45:27 and the things I said to you months ago may just be coming to fruition and that is over-ordering and overstating we're hearing now less and less is needed for the data centers and the like hope you listened that all said you have a great evening drive carefully
Starting point is 00:45:53 when you get home do like we do make sure you hug your family make sure you hug your children. They will feel better. You will feel better. I promise. Stay well, be well. Hopefully better days ahead.
