Starting point is 00:00:31 Investor's Edge with Gary Coltbaum. Straight talk about you and your money. Now from the BizTalk Studios, here is Gary Cultbaum. And welcome once again to Investors Edge. I'm Gary Coltbaum, your host day. Thanks for being with us today. Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen, happy that you are listening. It is February 10, 2025.
Starting point is 00:00:51 It is a Monday. Hope you had a good weekend. We got lots to cover, as usual. Serious talk on everything that affects you, including the Super Bowl. We'll talk about the markets, the economy. your job, your industry, everything emanating out of that place called Washington, D.C. And ladies and gentlemen, I am going to get you so riled up today. You're not going to believe some of the things I come out with.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Riled up. And of course, if you do not get this radio show in your city, we'll post it at garyk.com. We'll also post it on our Twitter feed. And if you don't follow us on Twitter, which is now X, you should. And if you'd like to email us, just be nice. again, thanks for joining. Congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles. So we added it up.
Starting point is 00:01:44 Since the year 2000, we've only lost four Super Bowls. Though there's no way I would have, you know, I gave the Giants twice against New England. We won those games. But that was the heart, not the head. Anyway, so going into this week, we've been telling you now for about, A bunch of days, we like Philadelphia, while everybody like Casey. In fact, the New York Post has a bunch of people predicting. They all took Casey.
Starting point is 00:02:14 And then I turn on the football game, the predictions of everybody. All picked Casey except one person. Anyway, we told you Philadelphia, but we also told you we're not going to bet that the side, but we love the over. and I must tell you the over did not go over until about two minutes and whatever left in the game and then they ended up scoring two touchdowns. And we consider it lucky because there was an interception touchdown. There was a fumble at the 10-yard line. But hey, whatever works.
Starting point is 00:02:49 So we hit another Super Bowl for you. And again, we told you Philadelphia, the Eagles, that we thought they were going to win the game. We did not know they would beat the living crap out of them and just destroy them at the line. That was a big wow. They destroyed Kansas City at the line. I was amazed at that. And I pretty much knew Philadelphia was winning the game after a few minutes. It just seemed there was not a spark.
Starting point is 00:03:28 There was no spark in Kansas City. And then I'm wondering if Mahomes got his bell rang early because he was just off. And even he was under so much pressure, he was still off. Anyway, congratulations, Philly. I had a bunch of people already emailed me thanking. Again, we don't advocate gambling too much, and we think these gambling companies suck. You know, they're out there, oh, yeah, we're going to give you a 50 bucks extra if you gamble and they just coming at you every five minutes with gambling sites.
Starting point is 00:04:10 And at the bottom, it says, well, if you got a gambling problem, anyway. And just so you know, casinos, every game you play, they have an edge. These are the things you got to remember when you gamble on sports. You pay a Vig. Just remember all these little things. I don't gamble much, but I'm a pretty good handicapper. Okay, and now we're going to rile you up. So, this is a show about everything that affects you.
Starting point is 00:04:40 We do the markets and we guide you what's working, what's not working, what's leading, what's lagging, what's turning, what's topping, what's bottoming, what's ascending, what's descending. And then we do the economy, how we feel about the economy, different areas of the economy. We cover those. We do our own little deep dives, small samples, but we kind of, feel like we have a good feel, and then we do government. And ladies and gentlemen, you know what we've been telling you for years and years, that the corruption in D.C. is beyond the beyond. We had no idea. If you notice, Elon Musk is being treated like he's the Antichrist. Do you know why? because they have easily uncovered the massive corruption brought to you by the political class.
Starting point is 00:05:46 And when I mean corruption, I cannot believe what they are uncovering. And when you see these dirtbags in politics out on the microphone saying that Elon Musk and Donald Trump do not care about democracy, are not accountable. They are out to get the taxpayer. They're going to screw you. They're talking about themselves. You know how we know this? It's all in plain sight uncovered.
Starting point is 00:06:23 And you have to realize these people that have done legalized thievery, they have to report it. and they never knew it would be uncovered. They thought they were in a safe space. They thought they can get away with it forever. And that's why they're going nuts and trying to stop what's going on with Doge, Elon Musk, and the president. So away we go, I'm about to rile you up and we'll finish with a wow, a big wow. Are you ready?
Starting point is 00:07:05 We already told you about 125 million here and there. 280,000 for diverse bird watches. 1.5 million for DEI in Serbia. 3 million for girls-centered climate action in Brazil. 45 million for DEI scholarships in Burma. Burma, 2 million for sex changes in Guadaluas. Guatemala, but that's nothing. That's really nothing. I can also tell you that this USAID has been funding 6,200 journalists across 707 media outlets. Stunning. And I know the USAID is front and center, and they do some good things, but the bad things destroy anything good that they do. And that's their excuse, by the way.
Starting point is 00:08:11 The New York City Teachers Union received 22,480,000 in taxpayer funds. We're just letting you know, 22,540,000. Don't worry, it's only 22 million. And before I continue, just realize they are freaking out because this was a blank checkbook with no accountability. You know what I was thinking? I was thinking, shouldn't it be hard to get money from the government? I always thought in order to get money from government, you had to fill out all kinds of things, applications and all kinds of stuff. And it would take months, if not years.
Starting point is 00:09:00 That's number one. Number two, people are not getting loans. They're getting grants. That means they don't have to pay back any of the money. It's government blank checking these people. Here, take it. It's yours. Do whatever you want to do with them.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Have fun. and they never had to worry at all. The U.S. Aid is giving money to the World Economic Forum. That's that thing in Davos every year. They fly in on private jets and then tell us we got to take care of the climate. They get money. The billionaire class gets money. Oh, but I'm not done.
Starting point is 00:09:44 You know who Samantha Power is? Well, she was sworn in as the administrator of USAID in May of 2000. She was on TV all depressed because she's out of a job. Her financial disclosure in January 21, it said her assets were estimated at 6.7 million dash 16.5 million. Three years later, it's 30 million. I believe she should be put up on Capitol Hill, under oath. Where did you get all that money from?
Starting point is 00:10:29 Now, maybe she bought into Nvidia on the move up. Maybe she did. I think that should be checked out. Things like FEMA sent for $59 million last week to luxury New York City hotels to house, illegal migrants. Little things like that. Little things. How about a Canadian electric bus manufacturer was awarded 160 million in tax dollars? Wait to you hear what happened next.
Starting point is 00:11:10 Oh, and then we'll have the fine alley. We name names. This is the one only Investor's Edge. Hi, I'm Gary Kalpom, hosted a nationally syndicated radio show Investors Edge. Starting point is 00:12:33 Hello, hello. I'm Malcolm Gladwell, host of the podcast Smart Talks with IBM. I recently sat down with IBM's chairman and CEO, Arvin Krishna. And I asked him, how can companies use AI to its fullest potential to create smarter business. My one advice to them, pick areas you can scale. Don't pick the shiny little toys on the side. For example, if anybody has more than 10% of what they had for customer service 10 years ago,
Starting point is 00:13:07 they're already five years behind it. If anybody is not using AI to make their developers who write software, 30% more productive today, with the goal of being 70% more productive. Yeah. Wow. So we are not asking our clients to be the first experiment on it. We say, you can leverage what we did. We're happy to bring out all our learnings, including what needs to change in the process, because the biggest change is not technology,
Starting point is 00:13:35 is getting people to accept that there's a different way to do things. To listen to the full conversation, visit IBM.com slash smart talks. Starting point is 00:15:03 Investors Edge. The last bastion of quality programming. With Gary Coltbaum. It doesn't get better than this. All right, let's continue. So a Canadian electric bus manufacturer was awarded $160 million of a tax dollars. They filed for bankruptcy. 95 million in buses across 55 school districts didn't get buses.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Just the little things. 90 million from USA went to the city and county of San Francisco. 90 million. Under the description, HIV Emergency Relief Project grants. Now let's think about this. 90 million grant to San Francisco. city and county. 90 million.
Starting point is 00:16:13 No, no, no, no, no. 90 million unaccounted for. No, no, no, no. 90 million of our tax dollars, HIV. Only 90 million. Samantha Power did an op-ed. She did an op-ed. And in the op-ed, she said,
Starting point is 00:16:46 well, you know, our budget is not even 1% of the, federal budget. It's $50 billion. What did I tell you about these people? They've turned $10 billion into a footnote. That's what they've done. Legalize criminality, but I finish with this. I finish with this. I finish with this. You know, Tom Dashel is an ex-Senator, and I believe he was a minority leader of the Democratic Party. You know, Stacey Abrams is she lost twice in Georgia, and she's said that she didn't lose, that it was rigged. You know, Donna Brazillas, she's a democratic person that goes on TV all the time,
Starting point is 00:17:41 and she's the one who handed questions to, I believe, was Hillary Clinton. You know, Randy Weingarten is. She's the head of the education stuff, teachers union. They started the Democratic, the National Democratic Institute, these people. Listen carefully. Because when you're a bunch of creeps and you know the game and you talk how much you care about the citizens, we find out all you have done is steal from the citizens. Listen carefully.
Starting point is 00:18:24 The National Democratic Institute with Tom Dashel, Stacey Abrams, Donovan, Brazil, Randy Weingarten, a guy named Michael McFall on its board, received $167 million in government grants. Gifts. Here, take it. Gifts. Of the $167 million, our tax dollars, $81.7 million went to employee compensation.
Starting point is 00:19:02 They're freaking thieves. They're crooked pieces of crap. I would say it to their face. I am not worried about being sued because they do not want sunshine on all this. You must know that. You got that? 15 officers receive compensation between $178,000 and $34,000. $4.1 million on office expenses.
Starting point is 00:19:34 You ready for the next one? $13.7 million on travel. 4.2 million on conferences, conventions, and meetings. You know what their mission statement is? To work in partnership around the world to strengthen and safeguard democratic institutions, processes, norms, and values to secure a better quality of life for all. No, it's to secure a better quality of life for themselves. And by the way, this is all.
Starting point is 00:20:06 Has to be reported. That's how we know this. We have the list. We have the list. 81.7 of the 50% of the government grant paid them. 81 million of our tax dollars. You like being kicked in the grapefruits? That's what they did.
Starting point is 00:20:41 And nobody would have ever found out. Nobody would have ever known. Nothing. Until Doge. Now, I don't know what's going to happen to these people, but I think they're lucky. They're lucky I'm not running the Department of Justice right now. Because if I was running the Department of Justice, every one of these people would be subpoenaed. Daschel, Stacey Abrams, the rest, and they would have to answer for this.
Starting point is 00:21:15 And they would have to answer that a small percentage went towards whatever they say they do. and then I would call for a clawback. You're giving back the freaking money to the taxpayer. Or we're going to charge you, whatever we can charge you with. Now, I don't know if this administration's going to do that to them. I hope they do. It's stunning. It's just plain, stunning.
Starting point is 00:22:01 It leaves me speechless. I don't even know what's. to say that this guy used to be the head of the Senate for the Democrats. Stacey Abrams. Did she run for governor? Some base in loss? Was a governor? And the rest of these creeps.
Starting point is 00:22:26 Now, remember, we don't have a bias. We don't care if there are or D. We care about any of these people that would do any of this. There should be jail time. They're thieves. They're no different than bank robbers. They're no different than bank robbers. Go look it up.
Starting point is 00:23:02 Yourselves. National Democratic Institute. Find out who got what. We're hoping that they get nailed. We're hoping they get nailed. Every one of them. We know now why they're having crap fits about all this being done. I want you to think about this.
Starting point is 00:23:35 It should be easy for transparency, hard to get the money. Up next, we segue markets. I'm Gary. This is the one only Investor's Edge. Hello, hello. I'm Malcolm Gladwell, host of Smart Talks with IBM. I recently spoke with IBM's new director of research, Jake Mbata. We discussed his vision for the future of quantum computing. At IBM research, what we always do is answer what is the future of computing, whether it's coming up with new algorithms, coming up with better AI, coming up with quantum,
Starting point is 00:24:21 or coming up with just how do different accelerators go together. It's our DNA to answer the question of what is the future. Isn't it a perfect problem for IBM because you kind of need to have a legacy of building stuff? Yes. Building actual physical machines. Yeah, it's why I came to IBM. I wanted the experience, the culture of building, hard things that others have not done before.
Starting point is 00:24:49 Where do you imagine we are in the timeline of this technology? There will come a point when it will mature. Right? Yeah. My cell phone is a mature technology at this point. How far are we from that point with Conton? By 2029, we'll build the first fault-tolerant quantum computer. That is one that can run a very, very large, large problem.
Starting point is 00:25:11 To learn how IBM is building the future of computing, visit IBM.com slash quantum. Want to earn extra income for your business? Amazon Hub Delivery is looking for ambitious business owners to assist with local deliveries.

Look for in-store tags to earn on eligible items from Celsius, Body Armor, Oiraida, Silk, Capri-Sung, Bavarian Meats, and Charmin. Then clip the offer in the app for automatic event-long savings. Stack up those rewards to save even more. Enjoy savings on top of savings when you shop in-store or online for easy drive-up.
Starting point is 00:26:18 and go pick up or delivery. Restrictions apply. See website for full terms and conditions. We're listening to. America is talking. Investors edge. He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on his feet here.
Starting point is 00:26:36 He's a Cinderella boy. With Gary Coltbaum. It comes highly recommended. You're going to feel better if you talk to him. Remember what I said. It should be hard to get our taxpayer dollars. It should be easy for transparency. And these people who are out there whining and complaining about Musk and Trump from making all this transparent, they're guilty parties for doing that.
Starting point is 00:27:16 And if we find out they're part of it, we'll let you know. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. This Stacey Abrams, who lost twice, who's been treated like a god. I'm looking up to see if I can find out net worth. Stacey, a net worth over $3 million. Oh, that's two years old. Three years old, actually.
Starting point is 00:27:47 It pays to lose elections. Net worth up 3,000% since losing the election. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep. Yep, yep, yep. All right, three segue.
Starting point is 00:28:13 Doub 167. S&P up 40, NASDAQ 190, NASDAQ 100, 265. Transports 165. Advanced declines not great on the NASDAQ 23 to 19, better on the New York. Couple things of note. Number one, it was an AI day. So what do we mean by that? two Mondays ago
Starting point is 00:28:39 Was it two Mondays ago? I believe yeah I believe so The AI stocks were absolutely blasted China came out with something called Deepseek And supposedly it was AI At a cost
Starting point is 00:28:57 That pales in comparison to the chips From Nvidia and others and that they would not need all that other stuff like the energy and the data centers and all that just got absolutely mutilated. And since then, all we've been hearing, nah, everything's cool. We've heard announcements about 60 billion, 70 billion, 50 billion, 80 billion, 40 billion. Billions. I think in total, I saw something in the range of $350 billion, $400 billion between just a few companies.
Starting point is 00:29:45 I'll have to get that number, but it's huge. And since that time, a lot of these stocks have recovered, including the building and construction companies that would build these data centers. and I don't know what happened over the weekend, but they had another good day. With a caveat, we'll start with the semiconductors. Most of the semiconductors look terrible, except a few AI names that have recovered pretty good, like Broadcom. Envidia had a big breakdown and now failed the breakdown. Still hasn't done anything. In fact, it's still down $7 from June
Starting point is 00:30:38 and about, what about 11% off the total highs. So it hasn't done anything in seven months. It's down in seven months. But held up pretty well compared to others. I think Taiwan semi is up there as far as holding up better. But most have crashed.
Starting point is 00:31:04 And today was another day where a bunch of semiconductor slas got hit hard, but the semiconductor their index was up 73 because of a few select names. So Broadcom was up 10 today. And Viti up three and change. And some of the AI things. Remember Oracle made that announcement with SoftBank and got blasted two Mondays ago?
Starting point is 00:31:31 Well, it bottomed that day at I think about 157. It's 178. That's what we mean by coming back. It hit a higher $192. So it was an AI day-to-day, and I have only one line on all that. They better come through with these numbers because there's big freaking bets based on promises of these numbers. Gargantuan numbers that in my world are unimaginable numbers. And in the past, we've seen very often big appetites and small stomachs.
Starting point is 00:32:35 We'll see how it plays out. But better AI. All the stocks that got blasted are in bounce mode. There's a couple back near the highs. A couple. Back near the highs of the day it crashed. Broadcom was almost 250. drop to 196, it's 235, up 10 today.
Starting point is 00:33:04 And one would suggest that's one of the stronger ones. We'll be on close watch. And part of that is software. Software stocks pretty darn strong. Software. Based on weirdness. Because if the Chinese thing is true, that means software stocks should do well.
Starting point is 00:33:32 If not true, less so. but software has been moving higher saw a few at highs today HubSpot well they report in two days CrowdStrike is another and some of the earnings related ones on the strong side
Starting point is 00:33:54 so write down software pretty darn good have to mention gold another strong day gold at another new high didn't see a reason but if you look at the GL D, another new high. The gold miners, not a new high, but coming on strong.
Starting point is 00:34:15 So gold in shape. Oils, they've been very weak. Very weak. Pretty sure oil price is putting a low today. Bounced off of what I would consider to be good support area. Whether or not it gets going or not, I don't know. But oils.
Starting point is 00:34:37 Steel had a good day as the president is putting tariffs on steel and aluminum. So the commodities had a good day today. And why would that help steal well? If you are putting a 25% tariff on incoming steel, incoming, companies would tend to buy steel from companies that are here, where they don't have to pay that tariff. Simple as that. So that's involved too. And I must tell you, I was surprised about the market today. I thought it'd have some trouble with all these tariffs going back and forth. But no. Good AI day. Could have been worse. Could have been better, but strong. What else moved today? The financials were on the weak side. American Express down six, Goldman Sachs
Starting point is 00:35:40 down six, down five, J.P. Morgan, down four. By the way, on my TV, the former treasure secretary, Larry Summers, is sounding the alarm over Doge. God, I'd just like to say up yours to every one of these people. Imagine you have somebody being transparent about us having 37 trillion of debt and $2 trillion yearly deficits. And the ex-Tresory Secretary is worried about the people that are shining the light on massive corruption out of government, which calls into question, hmm, Larry Summers. You get any grants? Huh. And Larry Summers in a tweet, I joined Treasury Secretary's Ruben Geithner.
Starting point is 00:36:40 Yellen, who by the way said tax cuts of the problem, Lou in writing this New York Times opinion guest essay because we were alarmed about the risks of arbitrary and capricious political control of the federal payments, which would be unlawful and corrosive to our democracy. Corrosive to our democracy, not 37 trillion of debt. I'll tell you up next what Elon Musk said to Larry Summers. Yay. And we'll finish off with more in the markets. I'm Gary. This is the one investors edge.

And welcome once again to Investors Edge. Elon Musk
Starting point is 00:40:50 Listen Larry We need to stop government spending Like a drunken sailor on fraud and waste Or America is going to go bankrupt That does mean a lot of the grifters Will lose their grift and complain loudly about it Too bad deal with it I love Elon Musk
Starting point is 00:41:06 Ladies and gentlemen We don't tell you what to believe Who to believe What to believe We tell you facts here The fact is we're 30 37 trillion of debt. The fact is we're running $2 trillion
Starting point is 00:41:24 deficits, and by the way, the run rate right now this year is going to be around $3 trillion. The fact is a bunch of people are whining, complaining about an entity shining daylight on how we got there
Starting point is 00:41:40 and who's involved. We'll leave it at that. Tough toenails. I'm going to keep rooting on Elon Musk on this and bring the culprits up on Capitol Hill. Let's answer, make them answer for their grift. And it's grift. They used us. They used their friendships with the people doling out the money. They're all connected. Their scumbags enriching themselves off of our tax dollars. And they're doing nothing with the money.
