Starting point is 00:00:33 Investor's Edge with Gary Coltbaum. Straight talk about you and your money. Now from the BizTalk Studios, here is Gary Cultbaum. And welcome once again to Investors Edge. I'm Gary Coltbaum, your host day. Thanks of being with us today. Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen. Happy that you are listening.
Starting point is 00:00:54 It's Tuesday, April 25th, 2003. We're here to talk about you and everything that affects you starting with the economy, your jobs, your business, the markets, them. You know them are opponents and everything under the sun. It's serious talk on you and everything that affects you with a little comedy injected when need be. But there are certain moments in time where we can't add a lot of comedy as much as we'd love to now as we speak we are pre-taping this show at 401 p.m. Eastern standard time we are waiting for Google to report got to wait for Google to report we're waiting for Chipotle to report got to wait for them we're waiting for
Starting point is 00:02:00 Microsoft to report my guess is Microsoft gets a good reaction. That's just my stupid unadulterated guess. We're waiting for Texas instruments to report. We're waiting for visa to report. And we will let you know when they do report. And the reason we mention them is because they're kind of on the big side. They're more meaningful to the indices.
Starting point is 00:02:32 They carry some weight. versus smaller stuff, whether or not their weight will move. The dial is another story that we don't know. But the market, the market, is bigger, is bigger than stocks, is bigger than sectors overall. But as you know, they have set these companies up to be gargantuan to the indices where not only do we have to report on them, but we have to do the underbelly, the absolute underbelly of them. As we have stated, amazingly so, the top seven names in the NASDAQ 100 are 51% of the NASDAQ 100. It's gargantuan.
Starting point is 00:04:01 The other 93 are 49%. That's crazy. Why is it crazy? It's too much for too few. Those same names are like 20% of the S&P. It's crazy. But it's good as long as those names perform. And the good news is these gargantuan names pretty much have performed on a relative basis.
Starting point is 00:04:45 Category killers. What are those names? Apple, Amazon, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Nvidia, Tesla. You could throw a couple other names in there that are of note. So we are in constant recognition of them. We're in constant recognition as we get into earning season
Starting point is 00:05:17 that they have so much weighting. Think about this. If those seven stocks go up 10%, but the other 93 in the NASDAQ 100 drop 10%. You're flat. Seven stocks influence so much. We completely disagree with the people running these indices.
Starting point is 00:05:52 We completely disagree that there's so much weighting, but they don't give a crap what we think. So far they have made the right choice as they have held up well relatively though Tesla not so much as of recent. And just so you know as the prices of these things
Starting point is 00:06:16 fall, they lose some of their weighting. As the price of these things, these things fall even more, less weighting and less waiting, and less waiting, and less waiting. But imagine if Apple, Amazon, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Viti and Tesla, decided to drop 5%. And the other 93 in the NASDAQ 100 just stayed flat. You got a 2.5% drop in the NASDAQ 100. this is all of note
Starting point is 00:07:05 we'll keep you informed we'll let you know and the good news is after the close Google it's not up a lot but it's up three and a half bucks in the aftermarket as I speak I call it 370 Microsoft
Starting point is 00:07:27 up about $11 in the aftermarket not huge on a percentage basis we're talking about what? Four percent. And considering the fact the stock was down six dollars today, it's up five dollars today, including the drop today. And of course, this is the initial reports, and we'll see what tomorrow brings, or the overnight and the readings, but that's not what I want to talk about. We started with them, and we'll let you know how it goes throughout this hour and the movement.
Starting point is 00:08:06 We do want to let you know that Texas Instruments is down about two bucks in the aftermarket and is down $8.5 for the day, including the aftermarket. So obviously you have an idea what the market did today since Microsoft, as we said, was down six today. So let's start with a few thoughts. What exactly have we said to you about the small banks, the regional banks. We actually said something to you.
Starting point is 00:08:48 We don't usually say that much on this show because we're very careful. And why are we so careful? Because we believe in keeping you in good stead. What do we mean by that? I don't want to ever say to you, I personally bought this today or sold this today. And here is why. because I can change my mind tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:09:18 And due to the fact, I do remember everything and I go over, but what if I told you I bought something yesterday and I sold it the next day and I forget to tell you? Wouldn't be on purpose, but that hurts you. Doesn't mean I'm right or wrong, but we want to keep you. We want to keep you instead. in good stead, with our thought process, as is always you decide.
Starting point is 00:09:49 So what we have said to you is, personally, we will not put a dime into any of the small banks or any of the regional banks. Not because we know anything, but because we're reading about how much deposits they're losing and as we have stated to you deposits a bank ain't a bank without their deposits we don't care what anybody tells you remember what banks are they're bookies you give them the money they give you a little return they make money off you whatever you got they invested here and there but they're bookies best way i can put it one of the poster child's children's children of this whole drop.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Well, has been First Republic Bank. FRC. This is the one where they got a lifeline. Up next. We'll tell you what happened. We'll go through the market inch by inch today. Thanks for being here. This is the one only Investor's Edge.

It's time to switch on the integrator units and get the brain cells working. You're listening to Hey, this promises to be fun. Investors Edge. The last bastion.
Starting point is 00:14:14 of quality programming with Gary called bomb it doesn't get better than this so very simply first Republic Bank today dropped 49% down seven dollars and 88 cents to eight dollars and twelve cents simple as that and we're not taking any credits or anything we're just stating it was logical to us we ain't touching these things and interesting enough if you look at a new yearly low list you will find u.s bank us bank corp USB they do 25 30 billion of revenue a super regional bank you will find near at or near new yearly lows Comerica these are not small A truist, the old SunTrust, still don't have any clue why they would change the name from SunTrust to truest.
Starting point is 00:15:37 What the hell is a truest? And of course, because of that move in First Republic, regardless of what our government says about how they're going to save the day, guess what they did to the Regional Bank Index today? A new yearly low. it broke the lows of the low in March. That's the KRE, KBE, that has some bigger banks in it, but the KRE is more the regionals. And of course, took down some of the other banks. Of course they did. So that didn't help the market today.
Starting point is 00:16:34 What else? What have we said to you about the semiconductor index over the last couple? of days broke the all-important 50-day moving average but more important than the semis as a whole is a lot of names had broken it in advance the semiconductor index was down a juicy 101 points today deeper into the drop and you know when we use the words top top topping Top-y, looks like a real top. To what extent we don't know, we never give targets to the upside or downside. Anybody gives you targets a full of crap. There's no such animal. Nobody knows. What we just want to do is get the main trend right, the main direction right, and close our
Starting point is 00:17:33 eyes, hold our nose and pray, which has never worked. We've tried. So the semiconductors worsened today. What did we tell you yesterday about the software stocks? They were starting to get icky to where yesterday the software exchange traded fund, the IGV had broken below some support, finished right near it, but was showing what we call distribution. What do we mean by distribution? Selling. How do we know they're selling? Well, you look at price performance, you look at what's going down, you look at volume. The IGV dropped today 3%. Down 9 to 289 and change.
Starting point is 00:18:29 They got that today. That said, of course Microsoft is of import and it's up almost $12 in the aftermarket, so it'll bounce on the open tomorrow. Leave no doubt. I'm not so sure. I'm not so sure. That's going to change the top of the whole group. Not so sure. Microsoft's earnings are up about 5% year over year. Terrific. Sales were up 7% year over year. terrific
Starting point is 00:19:19 not dynamic can't blame them though they do 200 billion in revenues very tough to grow the business we'll see what happens tomorrow the good news is it's up 12 in the aftermarket up 5 for the whole day
Starting point is 00:19:34 so it'll bounce tomorrow but got whacked today and then as I go through names and it's very simple as you know We scan tons of names every day, every night, all the sectors, you name it, just tons of tops in place. And we're not so sure Microsoft's going to change.
Starting point is 00:20:08 Remember what we said? Even though Microsoft is huge to the indices, it's not going to change big tops in a lot of names in software. So tomorrow are going to be, we'll call it an interesting day. We'll see. And we got a few more things coming out. By the way, VISA's up about four bucks in the aftermarket. That's in the Dow. That's good news.
Starting point is 00:20:37 But we got a lot more coming out in the week ahead. So we'll take it. And of course, it's early. They just came out with the earnings. We'll be done with this show in a little while. Who knows what the press conference will be. They put good news on everything no matter what. We just want to let you know just a lot of stuff topping.
Starting point is 00:21:03 Toppy. Topped. And when we do our webcast tonight for our peeps, which by the way, we don't really market it that much. But we have this thing called Convictionleaders.com, and we just do webcasts every night. We show you. leaders laggards tops bottoms and we're very specific and i'm sure you know by now those that have listened to show for years ain't nobody better in recognizing tops in the market and sectors and stocks you name it so tonight's going to be an interesting day we'll see how the rest of the
Starting point is 00:21:48 the night goes definitely a little bit of an influence here a little bounce after the close today not sure it changes the playing field. We'll see. We're open for it. Anything. All outcomes. But a moving train doesn't stop so quickly in markets. I do want to mention Chapoitte, though,
Starting point is 00:22:14 up 85 bucks in the aftermarkets. Wow. It's only about 4.5%. But that's still not. Nice. They sell a lot of burritos, obviously. Damn, that Chipotle. Beat by $1.55. Comparable restaurants, same store, 11%. Nice. Well done. Up next. Final numbers today. Much more. This is the one only investors edge. Allergy season always has a way of sneaking up on you when you least expect it.
Starting point is 00:23:09 One minute, you're listening to your favorite podcast. You're locked in, hanging on every word when, bam! A surprise bonus episode drops. Brought to you by allergies. The itchy, watery eyes hit non-stop sneezing kicks in, and a runny nose forces you to hit paws. Suddenly, everything is a trigger, the flowers, the breeze. It feels like even the trees are out to get you.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Luckily, Kleenex ultrsoft tissues have you covered. They're allergist approved and silky soft to help prevent skin irritation. So you can stay comfortable all-season lock. Don't let allergies put your life on pause, especially not when you finally got your cue exactly where you wanted. Be prepared with Kleenex ultra-soft tissues. For whatever happens next, grab Kleenex. Add them to your cart today. Enjoying a healthy dinner that tastes great means eating out at a pricey restaurant, right? Wrong.
Starting point is 00:24:05 Healthy Choice Simply steamers are delicious and healthy. The tray-and-tray steam technology delivers crisp veggies and tender proteins and tender protein. and tasty selections, like Healthy Choice Simply Steamers' grilled chicken and broccoli Alfredo. It's a satisfying meal with 28 grams of protein and nothing artificial. Healthy Choice Simply Steamers. What having it all tastes like. By the time I hit my 50s, I'd learned a few things. Like how family is precious.
Starting point is 00:24:36 Work can always wait. And 99% of people over 50 already have the virus that causes shingles. Not everyone at risk will develop it, but I did. The painful, blistering rash disrupted my life for weeks. Don't learn about your shingles risk the hard way. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist today. Sponsored by GSK. We're listening to America is talking.
Starting point is 00:25:07 Investors Edge. He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on his feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. With Gary Coltbaum. It comes highly recommended. You're going to feel better if you talk to. So, before I do the market wrap, let me talk to you as a parent.
Starting point is 00:25:46 I hope you don't mind. My sons are now, one was born in 91, so it'll be 32 in August. The other one was born in 95. It will be 28 in December. I don't know where the hell the time went. Remember, we used to do the shows where we do birthday shows from my kids. People would call in with the best renditions and we'd give prizes. And boy, we had some unbelievable musicians call in.
Starting point is 00:26:28 And thanks to my wife, my sons, I believe, turned out very well. We always preached two or three things and we felt we had to. because we see what's out there. Number one, and same thing I say to you on this show. Drugs suck. There's nothing good about doing drugs. Nothing. And we preached it time and time again.
Starting point is 00:27:09 And it wasn't hard to preach because, oh, we could always give examples of people that abused it. And you know outcomes. We said alcohol sucks. never ever put yourself in a position of not being in control. And you know what we mean by that. And I will tell you, I would go up to my son's college. And we used to go, you know, we would go out to, you know, some bars just for a little long.
Starting point is 00:27:42 And we actually saw college women out of control. Crap-faced. Not knowing where they were. had to be escorted out and taken home by the friends. And I always said to my sons, never let that happen to you, ever. I just heard a story of a single mom whose daughter got some drugs from somebody. It was laced in fentanyl, unbeknownst. I don't need to go further.
Starting point is 00:28:54 if there's anything I can talk to all you parents about, sit your kids down. You got me? Do I need to go further? Single mom just lost their 19-year-old child. And we don't like being morbid here. But we really do believe we have the privilege of having this forum of able to speak to you. Not many people have that. And of course, a lot of people abuse it.
Starting point is 00:29:52 We want to do good by it. You all know what I mean by that. Your sons, your daughters, there is a lot of crappy influences out there. And it only takes one accident. And this fentanyl, which I've been reading up about, is out there. and it's a freaking killer.
Starting point is 00:30:49 So just hope you don't mind. We mean well. I thought it important because I think it's important. This story I just told you is not the first. It's not going to be the last. Get a hold of your kids. And by the way, one other note, nothing good happens after midnight.
Starting point is 00:31:26 That was the other thing I used to tell my sons. We have to segue. Today's market wrap is brought to you by Investment Dash Models.com. That's Jim Rohrabak, one of the great market timers. No gray areas with the man you're either in or out of the market. It's proprietary indicators. Go check it out. Investment dash models.com.
Starting point is 00:31:50 A juicy 344 on the Dow today. A juicy 65 on the S&P. A juicy 238 on the NASDAQ. 244 in the NASDAQ, 101 on the SOX. You're ready for this on the transports? 524 as UPS said. some not so great things. By the way, they only do $100 billion in revenue UPS, right? Something you may want to listen to.
Starting point is 00:32:16 Stock was down 19 today, down 10%. And of course, when they talk, FedEx was down seven. The rails and truckers were all down. A very rough day. They advanced the clients terrible. Updown volume was terrible. New highs, hardly any, new lows really picked up. But Google and Microsoft are up in the aftermark. and you have a little how I'll call it on the NASDAQ 100 about three quarters of a percent amazingly two stocks two stocks I'm not this is how it works right now their bounce has other things
Starting point is 00:32:59 bouncing and you got three quarters of percent bounce on the NASDAQ 100 the IGV that's the software that was hit hard today because of Microsoft, I'm going to call it up about three quarters of a percent also. And of course, we'll be watching both those names tomorrow. Why? If the market really wants to go down here, they'll sell them off on this move also. And by the way, Amazon's up two in the aftermarket after being down four. You know, that's the sympathy moves that the market gives. And to update VISA is up about four bucks. And freaking Chipotle is now up 90 friggin' dollars.
Starting point is 00:33:49 Those burritos, man. And by the way, they're very chinty now with their chicken bowls. I have to get double chicken now. Because on the single chicken bowls, they don't put enough chicken in anymore. You think that was a directive? Anyway, congratulations to the Chipotle. congratulations wow I do not own the stock that's some big stuff and that's a big big big beat let's see what I got Fion that Chipotle came out at $10.50 a share you ready for this
Starting point is 00:34:34 earnings up like 80 some odd percent wow revenues rose 19 percent that's a big number of revenues and comparable restaurant sales being up 11 percent huge number I'm gonna have to speak to some managers at some Chipotle's and ask them what's going on so you got McDonald's that had decent not even close to Chipotle and I've been asked a hundred times today why's McDonald's down if they said the numbers were good because stock already made a move up anyway that's the story today it was gross today Maybe better tomorrow. We'll see. Up next. This, that, and the other thing, and whatever else.
Starting point is 00:35:26 This is the one that only investor's edge. Allergy season always has a way of sneaking up on you when you least expect it. One minute you're listening to your favorite podcast. You're locked in, hanging on every word when, bam, a surprise bonus episode drops. Brought to you by allergies. The itchy, watery eyes hit nonstop sneezing kicks in, and a runny nose forces you to hit paws. Suddenly, everything is a trigger, the flowers, the breeze. It feels like even the trees are out to get you. Luckily, Kleenex ultrsoft tissues have you covered. They're allergist approved and silky soft to help prevent skin irritation,
Starting point is 00:36:41 so you can stay comfortable all season long. Don't let allergies put your life on pause, especially not when you finally got your cue exactly where you wanted. Be prepared with Kleenex Ultrasoft tissues. For whatever happens next, grab Kleenex. Add them to your cart today. Enjoying a healthy dinner that tastes great means eating out at a pricey restaurant, right? Wrong.
Starting point is 00:37:05 Healthy Choice Simply steamers are delicious and healthy. The tray-and-tray steam technology delivers crisp veggies and tender protein and tasty selections like Healthy Choice Simply Steamers grilled chicken and broccoli alfredo. It's a satisfying meal with 28 grams of protein and nothing artificial. Healthy Choice Simply Steamers. what having it all tastes like. By the time I hit my 50s, I'd learned a few things, like how family is precious.
Starting point is 00:37:36 Work can always wait. And 99% of people over 50 already have the virus that causes shingles. Not everyone at risk will develop it, but I did. The painful, blistering rash disrupted my life for weeks. Don't learn about your shingles risk the hard way. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Today, sponsored by GSK. You're listening to.
Starting point is 00:38:04 What are we waiting for? Well, what are you waiting for? One, two, ready, go. Action! And welcome once again to Investor's Edge. Off of a couple of ports. Chipotle Monstrous. Texas Instruments, not so good.
Starting point is 00:38:36 When you're down like six and a half, seven bucks today, Texas Instruments, with a week, day for semis and you're still down in the aftermarket right now. Not so good. Visa is up a little bit in the aftermarket. I'm thinking anything else I see. By the way, it was Google and Microsoft with the move up. Enphase, that was a stronger solar stock that had been croaking since November. Closed at 220.
Starting point is 00:39:07 I got it at 188 in the aftermarket. So that one is unhappy. and a lot more to come in the days ahead. Before the open tomorrow's Boeing, Humana, Hilton, Ryder, Old Dominion Freight, Norfolk, Southern. After the close, Facebook, KLA 10 Corps, Terradine, Service Now, blah, blah, blah, blah. I can go on and on. Oh, 10-year yield dropped the 3.396 today. Strong as stocks today.
Starting point is 00:39:41 Chlorox, Hershey's, Kimberly, Clark, Eli, Lilly, and the like. You think the market's saying the economy's got a problem going forward? Okay, in the news. Well, I mentioned already the First Republic. They're saying since the high they lost $102 billion in customer deposits. That's what's being reported. Ladies and gentlemen, that's a big number. in the news, hey Hillary Clinton, my favorite person, did an op-ed in the New York Times, Republicans are playing into the hands of Putin and G.
Starting point is 00:40:24 I love this woman. Go take a look at some of the nefarious leaders of countries who gave a crap load of money to the Clinton Foundation and accepted by Hillary and Bill Clinton because they thought she was going to be the next president. But all the Republicans are the bad guys. I love people. I've been reading, I read her op-ed, it's almost laughable. But remember, people in the tank on the left, she's wonderful, people on the right, she's the Antichrist. That's how it goes. Here, we're done with everybody.
Starting point is 00:41:11 Joe Biden announced the weirdest. He announced running for president again on a three-minute video. What? If I'm running for president again, you know what I'm doing? I'm in Central Florida. I'm going to the old name Citrus Bowl camping world stadium now in front of 60,000 people announcing it. He did a three-minute video.
Starting point is 00:41:46 What in blue hell is that? But of course, I can't stand the guy. Unfortunately, after Trump in all his lies, I was hoping for somebody that's straight, he's full of crap. He has taken the championship belt on lying away from Trump. The difference is that the media doesn't report on his lies, unfortunately. What can I tell you? What else can I tell you? That was in the news today.
Starting point is 00:42:16 Anything else big in the news today that I need to, oh, yeah, this is a good one. And we'll see what comes of it. How to buy gold has now hit a record on Google searches. Just letting you know. I do not know if that's a contrary indicator on gold or not, but I do want to let you know because typically they are contrary indicators. When the masses are doing one thing, you run the other way. But so far gold acts fine, acts well, has been pulling back as of late.
Starting point is 00:43:03 But I had to mention that to you. Definitely had to mention that to you. That was interesting. Next up, hmm. The European Union has approved the world's first carbon tax on imports. It's a carbon border tax. The stated goal of these tariffs is to level. the playing field, they said.
Starting point is 00:43:34 Imagine that European steel manufacturers are paying a fee for their carbon dioxide emissions and their competitors outside the EU aren't. Ladies and gentlemen, have you noticed what's going on worldwide? By the way, led by Janet Yellen, our Treasury Secretary, they can't get one word out of their mouths. Tax. Ronald Reagan once said something to the effect of, If it moves, they tax it.
Starting point is 00:44:09 If it keeps moving, they suck. You know, I got to get that, you know what I'm saying. Ronald Reagan on taxes. I got to read the whole thing. On taxes. I know I got it right. If it moves, let's see what comes up. If it moves taxes, tax it.
Starting point is 00:44:33 If it keeps moving regulated, if it stops moving, subsidize it. And what does that mean? More government. more and more government. More and more out to get you. And by the way, if you make too much money, Joe Biden thinks you're a tax cheat. Don't you just love that?
Starting point is 00:44:55 Not one media moron has asked Joe Biden, what do you mean that people making above 400,000 are tax cheats? Can you explain when you say that? No, nobody wants to ask that question. And that's some of the news of the day. I knew I'd find that Reagan quote. It's one of my favorite quotes out there. So, a terrible day today.
Starting point is 00:45:18 A lot of damage, a lot of deterioration. Two names have some things bouncing in the aftermarket today. Chipotle and their burritos are kicking, you know what. I am going to be interested in seeing if this little bump in Google and Microsoft gets sold into tomorrow, but leave no doubt. Big deterioration today in the average. stock. Have a great evening, drive carefully. When you get home to like we do, it's quite simple. Make sure you hug your family. Make sure you hug your children. They will feel better. You
Starting point is 00:45:56 will feel better. I promise. Thanks for joining us today. It's always an honor that you would even listen to anything we have to say. Hope we are of help. Until tomorrow, peace out. This has been Investor's Edge with Gary Cult Bomb on Biz Talk. To listen to past episodes or to get in contact with Gary, go to Garyk.com. That's GaryKK.com. Starting point is 00:46:31 And 99% of people over 50 already have the virus that causes shingles. Not everyone at risk will develop it, but I did.
