Starting point is 00:00:33 Investor's Edge with Gary Coltbaum. Straight talk about you and your money. Now from the BizTalk Studios, here is Gary Cultbaum. And welcome once again to Investors Edge. I'm Gary Colbom, your host day. Thanks for being with us today. Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen. Happy that you are listening.
Starting point is 00:00:54 No, really. It's Thursday, May 11, 2023. Hope you having a good day. As you know, this is a show that affects you, your money, your markets, the economy, your jobs. This is what we discuss here. And everything about what they are doing that affects you. We never had to do that, but we went from we the people to we are the big blob government. And we're smarter than you and you're a bunch of stupid idiots.
Starting point is 00:01:33 And we're going to run you and rule you, tough luck. So we unfortunately, we have to cover that. Again, we never used to do it. You know what we used to do? We used to talk stocks. More stocks and more stocks. But how do you talk stocks without talking about 32 trillion of debt? Massive deficits.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Out of control fed. Central bank that caused inflation. Distortions, bubbles, insanity, you name it. So we'll do that. And I want to start off without saying from where or who. A single mom, her daughter, was at a party, was innocently given an antihistamine. I don't know which one. She took it.
Starting point is 00:02:46 It had fentanyl. 19-year-old girl died. So as you know, this show has the ability to give some very logical advice to those of you out there. Make sure your kids are told not to take anything from anybody in the way of any kind of drugs. Unfortunately, fentanyl is out there in many venues. When I told this story to somebody, they said, oh, let me tell your story what happened, six months ago to this couple's son, who was 16 years old. So very simple. I called, you know, I have four god daughters. I called the parents yesterday. And they're not the age of going to
Starting point is 00:03:49 parties yet. Well, one's getting close. Make sure they take nothing from nobody because you just don't know. A single mom at, well, the dad also was still around. They are divorced. lost a beautiful 19-year-old daughter to fentanyl. We start with that. Heartbreaking. Heartbreaking. Imagine your kid. Healthy as can be.
Starting point is 00:04:41 Takes a pill. Innocently. Not drugs. Not illegal, but turns out. Next. As you know, I am a maniacal professional wrestling fan. before it became fashionable. I was going to the mattress at Miami Beach Convention Center in 1978, 1976, a matter of fact.
Starting point is 00:05:11 It was 1976 I started, maybe 75. As you know, I am also a general hospital fan of I've been watching it since 78. I also was watching One Life to Live in All My Children. But they went out of business. I have some favorites in general hospital, and as we grow older, a lot of them are gone. Some passed away. Out of nowhere, Jackie Zeman, Bobby Spencer, passed away. She was on TV a month ago.
Starting point is 00:05:46 It turns out she died, 70 years old. She had cancer, and it was a short spell of cancer, and just died. So just a not a happy day. I found this out at midnight last night. I'm in bed and I was like, I realize, damn, the years have passed. So I start you off with morbidity. I'm pretty sure that's a word. But really, the start of the show, the big story is you grab your kids.
Starting point is 00:06:23 Let them know, alcohol ain't cool. Drugs ain't cool. You know, this whole fashionable thing by our government, marijuana legal where I call Manhattan now the big bong hit just walk in Manhattan it's just it's a big bonk hit it's fashionable it's cool yeah yeah it's not none of it is it all sucks and government's making it legal to collect taxes because they don't like your cousin biff around the corner doing all the business so anyway a little one two punch to start the day. Yeah, I watch General Hospital every day. And just so you know, I tape it,
Starting point is 00:07:14 and you can watch the whole thing in, you know, 40 minutes. And you can go through the little scenes you know you don't have to watch and stuff. It's just one of those things. Some people like this, some people like that. You know, look at everybody that's into these shows and they just watch a hundred of them in a weekend. All right. Next. This is important. Joe Biden had two years to prepare for something called Title 42. In case you don't know, this was put into place COVID, where people that came here can just not, from other countries, cannot just declare.
Starting point is 00:08:04 You know, I'm here because of COVID, and they were bye-bye. Biden is letting Title 42 expire, and they've admitted a crap load of people are now going to cross the border even more than the record amounts that we already had. They had two years to prepare, and you know what they're telling us now? Yeah, there may be some chaos. I call myself Mr. Logic for a reason. It's logical. You know something's going to happen.
Starting point is 00:08:46 You got two years to prepare. You do nothing. and I never believe they were doing it on purpose, but that can be the only answer because nobody can be this moronic. They have to want to be, what do these people want? Do you know that cities across the country
Starting point is 00:09:06 are declaring emergency powers because too many people are coming in? And these border states are sick and tired of it. They're sending them to these blue cities and they're all pissed off. The blue cities are now figuring out. Man, look what these other places. along the border have been going through.
Starting point is 00:09:27 You know, these sanctuary cities, oh, come on, come on. And then all of a sudden, 3,000 people show up, oh, crap. So Joe Biden, who pretty much has done everything wrong as a president. We, the government. That's his thought process. And we the reactors.
Starting point is 00:09:49 Yeah, we're going to screw things up, then we'll react. This is the MO. Simplicity, kicked into grapefruits. Spend 10 minutes of your time tonight reading up about Title 42 and what morons are run in this country. And I feel bad the head of what is, Mayorkas, the head of Homeland Security, I think his title is. He's just talking for Biden. You know who's the smart one at all this? Is the vice president?
Starting point is 00:10:21 She was named the border czar, and you know, she said, screw that. You don't even hear from her. I'm getting the hell out of here. Have you even heard from her on the border? I think once in two years? What a freaking mess. It's been so easy. Easy.
Starting point is 00:10:44 It's just like, let me read some to you. San Francisco Target Store is being shoplifted every 10 minutes. This is a story. Shoplifter is at San Francisco Target Strike every 10 minutes. Helpless staff watch thieves, stuff bags with food, lipsticks and nail polish, a soft on crime city suffra... This. Up next, we'll finish this off.
Starting point is 00:11:06 and then we'll do the markets. This is the one-only Investor's Edge. Hi, I'm Gary Kalbaum, hosted a nationally syndicated radio show Investors Edge. Starting point is 00:12:36 Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. In this episode, we are diving into gut health with CVS pharmacist Victoria Motola, who explains why so many of us live with stomach issues we should not accept as normal. A lot of what I see is just like, chronic bloating, chronic stomach aches. Like, I get a stomach ache every time that I eat.
Starting point is 00:13:07 And it just becomes like a lifestyle where, oh, yeah, you know, I just, I have a stomach egg every day. Or I'm constantly feeling like gassy. And all of those things are not something that generally, if you have a healthy gut, you should be living with. So that's when we deep dive. We deep dive into your medication. We deep dive into your OTC medication.
Starting point is 00:13:25 And then at that point, we can probably identify something that we can change. Hear the full conversation, plus some fascinating facts about how gut health affects so much more than just your stomach on Beyond the Script, a podcast from CVS Pharmacy and IHeartRadio. Listen now wherever you get your podcasts. Enjoying a healthy dinner that tastes great means eating out at a pricey restaurant, right? Wrong. Healthy Choice Simply steamers are delicious and healthy. The tray-and-tray steam technology delivers. crisp veggies and tender protein and tasty selections,
Starting point is 00:14:04 like Healthy Choice Simply Steamers' grilled chicken and broccoli Alfredo. It's a satisfying meal with 28 grams of protein and nothing artificial. Healthy Choice Simply Steamers. What having it all tastes like. It's time to switch on the integrator units and get the brain cells working. You're listening to. Hey, this promises to be fun. Investors Edge.
Starting point is 00:14:31 The last bastion of quality. programming with Gary Coltbaum it doesn't get better than this so in me being missed the logic so let's see we just lost a bunch of retail stores we just lost a bunch of jobs in san francisco by the way this is nancy pelosi's district and you think anybody interviews her on it and say it just asks one simple question what the hell are you doing they won't ask her because they're afraid they'll lose their position anyway so here's another store union square they're going to shut down no doubt workers in sites at every 10 minutes you see it look in some corner of the store and you'll see people shoveling stuff into a bag
Starting point is 00:15:18 food and cosmetics and that's that and me Mr. Logic if I ran the city oh it's simple hey you all we just want to let you know we're now going to arrest you we're going to charge you with a felony on the third go round
Starting point is 00:15:39 and you make it where they realize, ooh, we're in trouble. The third go round is the Big Whopper, and then we're going to indict you. We're going to find you guilty. And we're going to shove you in jail, six by nine cell, and the minimum is going to be one year.
Starting point is 00:16:02 One year in jail. You want that? You like that? That's what you got. I will guarantam t you. It's not going to 100% stop. Oh, but it's going to stop. There's one thing these wimps, these crooks, are afraid of.
Starting point is 00:16:24 But if you don't make him afraid of it, they're going to keep doing it. So a little more logic. And do you hear a word? I want to ask any of you, have you heard a word from the president of the United States? Remember, he is the president of the old United States. Have you heard a word from him on this? Not a freaking word. So aren't we morbid today?
Starting point is 00:16:54 But I think it's imperative. I tell you about fentanyl, which, by the way, a ton of it's coming across the border that is wide open, even though our homeland security tells us, oh, it's closed. Oh, he was out there today, just pleading. the fun part he was telling the migrants don't come here or else and they're laughing and they're coming in droves and as usual the media is kind of sort of covering it now because they have to but it's not that important to them why because their guys run in the show and they can't piss off their guy so we're just letting you know they're telling us it's going to be chaotic, even though it already has been.
Starting point is 00:17:53 Next, I turned on the Trump-C-N-Fiastco last night for five minutes and then shut it off. I'm going to do my very best to watch the whole thing. After five minutes I realized, and I say this with all due respect for every one of you that love this man, and I mean that all due respect. Hey, opinions are opinions. Would I want my children looking up to this man? I would say he'd be last in line. I'm going to hold my tongue on this man
Starting point is 00:18:45 because there are many of you that love him and no matter what he says or what he does, no matter his just straight out and out BS. Like me telling you, it's sunny out and it's raining behind me. You're going to love him no matter what. All my respect. I got news for you. I watched the first five minutes.
Starting point is 00:19:14 I then saw a few outtakes. He's going to lose a ton of the women vote that he may have had. And he's going to lose whatever independence that may be coming around because Biden sucks. We're letting you know he has no chance to win the election. the general election. And I'm holding my tongue on my thoughts about him. I'm just telling you about the election. He will have no chance winning the general. And the way the Santis is running things, I do believe that Trump will win the nomination. The Santhus is just self-inflicted wounds. Maybe we'll get into that later. Oh, Disney. You know, we have a motto here in the
Starting point is 00:20:12 Halt bomb compound. You say that 10 times fast. Never piss on prosperity. Here you're the governor of a state with the company that provides the most employees and the biggest tax base. Philanthropic is all hell. And you're kicking them in the grapefruits every day. And Bob Iger came out today and said, and he means it.
Starting point is 00:20:37 We're now going to have to think about the $12 billion. dollars we had planned on spending because if they can attack us on every front and leave no doubt the Santis is attacking them on every front threatening tolls into Disney what other people pay for extra taxes on hotels people will pay for all kinds of stuff prisons around near Disney I just want to know was the Santas ever beaten up by Mickey Mouse when he's when he was a young kid. It's insanity. No logic to it. So we have Biden, Trump, and now DeSantis, who's losing it. These are the three. These are the chalk now. We need to find somebody else. Logical. We the people. Not we the ego. Not we the stupid. Not we the corrupt. And leave no doubt the media's blacking out,
Starting point is 00:21:54 Biden's massive corruption. Go read that stuff. If it was Trump, 24-7. What does this have to do with you and your money? One of these three are going to be running the country the next four years. The market wrap is brought to you by Investment-Models.com. That's Jim Roarback, one of the great market timers.
Starting point is 00:22:19 No gray areas with the man you're either in or out of the market. It's proprietary indicators. Go check it out. Investment-models.com. more of the same get this the Dow was down 221 but the NASDAQ was up 22 the Dow was down 221 but the NASDAQ 100 was up 42 with the NASDAQ up 22 and the NASDAQ 100 up 41
Starting point is 00:22:47 advanced declines on the NASDAQ were 1470 to 2708 New yearly highs on the NASDAQ I think I have eight New yearly lows 203 what does that mean narrow, we'll explain up next. This is the one only investors edge. Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions

You're listening to America is talking. Investors Edge. He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on his feet here. He's a Cinderella boy.
Starting point is 00:26:20 With Gary Colbomb. It comes highly recommended. You're going to feel better if you talk to him. And welcome once again to Investors Edge. The Knicks one last night, 3-2 going back to Miami. Golden State one last night, 3-2 going back to L.A. And tonight is Boston at Philly. Philly's up 3-2.
Starting point is 00:26:54 And Denver at Phoenix, Denver's up 3-2. I got nothing against Denver. I used to live there. Go Phoenix. And my peeps at KFNN. Big shout out to Ron Cohen, who's been so kind to us throughout the years. We did a webcast today at 12.30, 1 o'clock,
Starting point is 00:27:30 because we don't want to do two tonight. And you know what we did? We went through energy, payroll, autos, defense, transports, travel, financials of all stripes, insurance, investment management, economically sensitive. Did I say commodities, steel, copper, aluminum, and all that stuff? Semiconductors, farm machinery, China and China ADRs, which by the way had a good day today. The amount of bare markets going on right now is just utterly amazing. and let me explain what the market is doing this second.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Dow down 221, NASDAQ up. But the NASDAQ advanced declines were terrible. What's going on here? Buy a little Amazon today. Google breaks out from yesterday. Netflix's better day today. Facebook up two and a half. Apple refuses to go down.
Starting point is 00:28:36 Microsoft down two and a half, but no biggie. Envidia down three, but one percent no biggie. the money is flowing out of the mass and into the narrow, fewer and fewer, less and less. Can at last, yes. We have highlighted a few the 70s, the nifty 50. For a long while, back before the market topped in 21, it was a select few. We're back out of it again with some more, with energy, with, you. Yields dropping, another good day for the housing stocks today.
Starting point is 00:29:18 Consumer staples remain strong. The worry about there is recession-resistant, and that's where money flows. Oh, did I mention retail? I forgot to mention retail and how bad that is. Oh, and the, I think, 17 or 18 Dow stocks that look terrible, including Disney, which was down nine today, narrow markets. You better be in the right place. If you're in all those areas mentioned, by the way, I didn't mention the few in restaurants that are in bad shape.
Starting point is 00:29:58 Oh, I got a big, oh, in medical that are in bad shape, drug stores, bad shape. A ton of the bombed out stuff from 21 that topped out bad shape. I mean, bearish phases. And I told my peeps as usual, if you can just avoid these areas. Barish phases. You just way ahead of the game. All we owned right now is mega-cap tech. And we're worried about them. They're overvalued. They're over-owned. But unbelievable relative strength right now. But believe me, we have a close eye on them. If nothing changes with the plethora of the market. Notice the big word. Plethora. Is that right in a sentence? Plethora of the market?
Starting point is 00:31:01 Or should I just say the plethora? If nothing changes and they can stay in downtrends and then they get the narrow, ee, they. So stay tuned. We will continue to tell you what is and what isn't. Plethora. A larger excessive amount. A plethora of.
Starting point is 00:31:29 I think I did it right. A plethora of the market. A plethora of excessive. Oh, very good. What may have changed today? I got one for you. So yesterday, on our webcast, we had said to our peeps, we were a little bit worried about the gold and gold,
Starting point is 00:31:51 specifically the gold stocks, which are not as performing as well as the gold, what is known as a double top. What that means, you go up the price, you come down, you go back to that price, and you fail there. yesterday by the close though it would look like it was failing but finished midway point so i said jury's still out gold got hit pretty damn good today the gold stocks pretty short near term this is not long term pretty short near term you got a little double top in place and it ain't going to be best at any time soon of course unless something breaks out badly you know what we mean in an event or something
Starting point is 00:32:33 like that that can cause it. So just letting you know, a bruising day for the gold. And silver too. That I would consider a change for the near term, whether it turns into something bigger I don't know and what happened today was the dollar. Our currency potentially turning the corner up. If it does, that's good news for me when I go to Wimbledon because it's going to be cheaper to go over to London. but hasn't been good for our market. It's not good for our multinationals and certainly will not be good for commodities as commodities are priced in dollars.
Starting point is 00:33:20 And if dollars higher, it costs more. One plus one equals two. So you better stay with the narrow. And I mean narrow as it gets narrower. I'd read to you the new high list, but man, oh man, there ain't much. Honda Motors is a new yearly high, by the way.
Starting point is 00:33:48 symbol HMC. I'll give that one. That's a new yearly high. And I'm going to give you another foreign stock at a new yearly high. Copa Holdings. That's Panamanian Airline. Great earnings report. CPA is that symbol.
Starting point is 00:34:09 I'm going to put those two next to each other as two foreign stocks that into new high grounds. Wow. I'm going to have to read up about this Copa Holdings because those are some big numbers. passenger and cargo service the 69 destinations in the Americas after that i got it i don't even know if i'm going to read another four home builders are at new highs not much else 300 new yearly lows on the new york and nzdaq and 200 in the nazdac that was up today again narrow is all heck what
Starting point is 00:34:58 they say about may i will let the market decide i keep getting ask about income one year notes five percent no risk you're taken out after one year and if yields are much lower in a year you're going to have to redo them at lower yields but if you need it now just let you know money market rates are look at be about four and three quarters right now maybe getting close to five after the last move by the Fed we're getting zero 18 months ago because j pal stole it from us When I say that on TV, whoever is talking to me, it cringes. I look at his theft. You're supposed to get money on your riskless income investments.
Starting point is 00:35:56 He stole it. He didn't take the money. He just handed it over to the lenders and the banks. Those wonderful people. On the bank front. Well, as we told you on Pack West, that's the one that's front and center right now. What did we say? Just be careful.
Starting point is 00:36:12 The high on Monday was $750. The loaded A was four. did close at 470. If you're going to trade it, just be careful. Use stops and probably don't want to go home owning it. Trust is low. Another rough day for the financials. Up next.
Starting point is 00:36:32 More on, this, that, and the other thing. This is the one only investors' edge. Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. Starting point is 00:40:27 george santos get the hell out i heard the leadership say well we'll let let it just see what happens. What? Guys are crooked fraud. I mean, his whole life. It should have happened to Elizabeth Warren also in the other party. She said she was American Indian. You know why? Money and status
Starting point is 00:41:04 at colleges. She's crooked, too. Fraud. Anyway, I just had to bring up George Santos. I mean, where do these people come from? It's unreal. Then again, Look at some of these miseries that are getting elected in both parties.
Starting point is 00:41:45 I digress. So just a little bit of less in time. We've been talking a lot about narrow. Let us explain a little bit more in depth. You know we give you this 100 stock thing to simplify markets. Imagine if there's 100 stocks in the market. Well, let's simplify that. imagine if there's a hundred stocks in the market and 90% of them are going down different levels of going down and different levels of bearishness
Starting point is 00:42:24 but that 90% only has 10% influence on the market because the other 10 have 90% influence because of the way it's set up that's how you get an indices sitting not hurting while 90% of the stocks are hurting people. You have to be in just those 10. Or you're screwed. Imagine right now if you are a regional bank mutual fund. I think there probably are some regional. Well, the KRE is an exchange traded fund for regional banks.
Starting point is 00:43:16 It's gone from 65 to 30 6th, 6th since February. And this is diversified. Well, we just gave you a. extreme example it's not that bad 10% of the market is not 90% but think about this seven stocks are 51% of the NASDAQ 100 the other 93 or 49% those same seven stocks are 23% of the s&P and I think two of those stocks I'm about to give it to you I'm Googling S&P makeup. Apple and Microsoft are 14.18% of the S&P.
Starting point is 00:44:12 There's 500 stocks in the S&P. Two of them are almost 15%. And by the way, those two are acting strong. But narrow markets also have that thought process that leads to trouble. Why? Because quite the often narrow markets are indicative of trouble that lies ahead. Why is that? Because you're selling off most of the market and you're putting in the select few. And as I said early, if nothing changes in the 90%, what happens if they get the select few? And I will say it normally is an event. eventuality that they will. Now, when I use the word eventuality, just so you know in the past, some of these things have gone climactic. They look like the Eiffel Tower, where you can make some really good cheese in a narrow market. I got to tell you, I own a few and I hope that's what
Starting point is 00:45:30 happens. And I'll know to sell the climactic move when all the noise is insane. That's your lesson. But it's not as extreme as 90-10 because you got the housing stocks. And you have a smattering. Well, you have some of the consumer staples, and you have a smattering. Hey, I just mentioned Copa Airlines and Honda. Decker's the Ugg boots in retail, one of the few retail stocks. The wealthy in LVMH and Ferrari, those two stocks, strong. So a smattering. And then there's some good reaction to earnings, some good reaction to,
Starting point is 00:46:29 bad earnings too. But we don't want to continue to see this. We want to see as the example that 90% stop going down and turn the corner where I can say to you, hey, just letting you know, but nope. Led by, by the way, the financials is worst. Oil's, no friends, commodities. You get my point. So when you hear people talking bull market up there, I'm like, what's the the hell are they talking about? I heard somebody say, oh, the NASDAX in the new bull market. It's up 20%. No. Seven stocks are. Why don't they know this? Because they don't spend the time that we do. And that is our leg up. That is our edge. And if you were listening intently, it's your leg up and your edge. We'll stay on top of it. It's getting interesting. You'll have a great evening,
Starting point is 00:47:34 drive carefully. Take care of your kids. give them good lessons on life. When you get home, make sure you hug them. Tell them you love them if you haven't. Tomorrow, I should be on with Cavuto in the noon hour, Fox Business Network. That's Neil Cavuto, The Mench. And we'll be back same time tomorrow. Have a great one, everybody.
