And welcome once again to Investors Edge. I'm Gary
Starting point is 00:00:48 Colp. I'm your host. A thanks of being with us today. Glad you're here, ladies and gentlemen, happy that you are listening. It is September 10th, uh, 2000, 24, it's a Tuesday. Hope you're having a good day. In case you don't know, this is serious talk about everything that affects you. No, really. Everything that affects you will do your job, your industry, the markets, the economy, what they're doing to us, you know, the Morlocks. And we're doing a lot of that now because election time, the debate tonight, what I call the overrated debate.
Starting point is 00:01:29 debate tonight because they're both going to tell you what they want you to hear or think want you to hear and we're going to cover that in a minute if you do not get this show in your city we'll post it at gary k.com we'll also post it on our twitter feed which is now x and if you don't follow us on twitter you should just go there put our name in and you can email me just be nice okay we'll get into the markets and And let me just state for the record, the weirdest day in the markets I have seen in a while, both good and bad. But that takes, we'll get back to it, the debate tonight. Well, number one, and I don't say this with any sarcasm.
Starting point is 00:02:23 I should be moderating it. I should have done the interview with Kamala Harris recently. but that's not going to happen tonight. The second part of the equation is I should be in the debate tonight. That's not sarcasm. I mean it. I mean it big time. And I would blow the doors off of both of them in the debate.
Starting point is 00:02:52 No, really? I would. You see, I don't think, for the record, on the economy Trump is filet mignon Harris is spam nothing against spam I've been to Hawaii 12 times and
Starting point is 00:03:10 spam is a staple there just on lower taxes and less regulations just on the border just those right there filet mignon spam
Starting point is 00:03:25 but there's more to it than that in why I wish I was in the debate. You see, I think most of these politicians have forgot that they work for us. We don't work for them. And my debate would pretty much go like this. The number one job of the President of the United States is to protect the citizenry against terror. Foreign-born terror, home-grown terror, crime. It's the number one job.
Starting point is 00:04:10 That would be, for starters. And in certain cities, you've got some crappy DAs and judges that are letting criminals out, crappy laws that are letting shoplifters go 30 times, people that are beating the crap out of others, getting no bail, and they go out and do it again. and again and again? Well, it's very tough as a president to enact things like that in cities. But you can certainly use the bully pulpit.
Starting point is 00:04:43 Have you heard Biden use the bully pulpit on crime once since he's president? I would also call those people into the White House. Get your arse over here. We're going to have a talk. And if there's any federal funding going to these places that are, not protecting the citizens but coddling the criminals, that stuff is gone. And that goes for the colleges also. We will protect the citizenry.
Starting point is 00:05:12 That's number one. Number two, the backing of police and people in uniform, they will get my complete backing 1,000 percent. Don't screw with them. of course in any vocation industry whatever there are bad people we'll try and root them out but that's got to be done locally at the precincts next the deficits well at the debate i wouldn't just state what i would do i would state what they have done and the numbers in case you all don't know the year before COVID, all of federal spending was $4.4 trillion.
Starting point is 00:06:03 The biggest year, including COVID, was mid-sixes. And we spent like a trillion in change on COVID. This year, federal spending is $7 trillion. And that increase is mostly debt. I would be given out those numbers. and explain that Harris was part of it. Trump ran massive debt also in deficits, and I would tell them exactly what I would do.
Starting point is 00:06:37 Number one, there will be no increase in federal spending. Number two, the $350 billion given to John Podesta for climate. Gone. And interesting enough, imagine what you can do in the communities with $350 billion, because in the next sentence, I would, state. We will designate that, and it's more than enough, to every community in this country that is deemed to be less so. And what we would do in those communities, where children are not
Starting point is 00:07:12 doing well in school, they're not graduating, there's crime, there's blight. What do we do? we get together, number one, with the greatest business leaders in those communities and have us sit down with them. Number two, we would boys and girls club those communities. And that is bringing those kids in, the families in, and talking to them about better and making them feel important and teaching them the most important skills of mentorship and leadership and speaking publicly and coding and computers and making. and feel great about themselves and being a driving force for their greatness in each of those communities. You think 350 billion that is a waste go into climate would do that? That would be in the debate. Do I have to continue? Immigration. I would start out by saying we love immigration.
Starting point is 00:08:17 We love immigrants. My best friends when I was a kid came from Cuba. They had nothing. Do you know what the father ended up doing, working his ass off, and he became the president of a bank after a few years and became wealthy. Coming from Cuba with nothing, we love that. We love immigrants coming here and working hard, building a family, making something for themselves, owning philanthropic. You name it. We want it. Not a 10 million coming in illegally through the border. We know a lot of these people want to come in to get away from the ass clown in Venezuela and other bad places in South America. We understand that.
Starting point is 00:08:59 But there has to be some sort of rule of law. I will talk about that. And I will talk about how we will streamline getting here legally, but we are going to stop them dead in their tracks if they want to come in that way. Then it's called the Godaways. You know, the Godaways, you know, they tell you about the Godaways. This moron Mayorkis and Biden on immigration, we don't know we're a bunch of these immigrants. are and we don't even know if they're terrorists and they admit it oh there would be a task force on
Starting point is 00:09:26 that find them get them send them home if they committed crimes indict them find them guilty put them in jail for a very long time we would stop the border crisis dead in its tracks and we would sit down with mexico and the president and let him know you You are part of the problem. And here is what's going to happen. And here's what's not going to happen if you do not at least meet us halfway. Just so you know, in case you don't know, Mexico can stop it. They could.
Starting point is 00:10:07 Not all, but a bunch. So immigration, we'd be all over that. We would talk about in the debate. You see what's happened in some of these communities? Have you seen the videos in Aurora, Colorado? Have you been reading about what the cost to the taxpayer in New York City is? That the money's coming out of helping out American homeless veterans to people coming in illegally? In California, they're paying for everything.
Starting point is 00:10:39 No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. We're going to be handling that and controlling it and doing things the right way. Do I have to continue? we'll be talking at the debate about individual responsibility. All we keep hearing from one side of the aisle is, sit on your ass and we'll pay you a bunch of money. No, we're going to talk to you about how when I was a kid, when I was a kid, I had the Encyclopedia Britannica one year old.
Starting point is 00:11:07 That was my Google. Now you can do whatever you want, become anything you want. Up next, we'll put a bow tie on it, get to the markets because of crazy day today. Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter.
Starting point is 00:12:49 In this episode, we are diving into gut health with CVS pharmacist Victoria Motola, who explains why so many of us live with stomach issues we should not accept as normal. A lot of what I see is just like chronic bloating, chronic stomach aches. Like, I get a stomach egg every time that I eat. And it just becomes like a lifestyle where, oh, yeah, you know, I just, I have a stomach egg every day. Or I'm constantly feeling like gassy. And all of those things are not something that generally, if you have a healthy gut, you
Starting point is 00:13:21 should be living with. So that's when we deep dive. We deep dive into your medication. We deep dive into your OTC medication. And then at that point, we can probably identify something that we can change. Hear the full conversation, plus some fascinating facts about how gut health affects so much more than just your stomach on Beyond the Script, a podcast from CVS Pharmacy and IHeartRadio.

Starting point is 00:14:39 You're listening to. Hey, this promises to be fun. Investors Edge. The last bastion of quality programming. With Gary Coltbaum. It doesn't get better than this. In the three and a half years of Biden, we never heard him say, work hard, become something. Be great.
Starting point is 00:15:06 You know what he said? We're here for you. Oh, you owe too much. We're going to give you money. no no no no no no no we're going to talk to people about work fair not welfare we will have a safety net we know it's a necessity but we're also going to incentivize working becoming something in the debate I would be giving examples I would name names of people that started with scratch which started with squat and built a legacy because they worked hard,
Starting point is 00:15:47 they studied hard, they educated. We will motivate those that think they have been left behind, not to listen to a Biden talk about what he's going to do for you, but how we're going to set the conditions for you, for you to excel. Individual responsibility. And every community person, and I'm not talking about the organizers, the people that really know the community, will be talked to and will nail it and narrow it down. Not so hard. Do you ever hear these politicians talk about, work your tail off and become something?
Starting point is 00:16:43 I don't. There will be no more insider trading in D.C. if you are public service, you are no longer going to get info on Thursday about a drug and buy the stock when it's announced on Friday. Oh, wait a minute, Gary, that's not going on, is it? Oh, hell, yes, it is. We're going to tell the people,
Starting point is 00:17:10 I'm going to tell the people if you go to jail for something, we're going to go to jail for something. How about that? And then I will talk about equal opportunity. We're going to set it up. There's all this talk about there's not equal opportunity. Well, I don't think there's any perfection in that.
Starting point is 00:17:35 Oh, but we're going to be talking about it and working on it. And you know what that starts with? The schools. You see, there's some antagonism between that one woman who runs the schools with an iron fist. Have you seen the numbers on math and English for our public schools? Have you seen it? What we will do, listen to this carefully. We will incentivize the teachers to be better and be greater.
Starting point is 00:18:09 You know how you do that? Dollar signs! And we'll know if they're cheating. We've heard of schools where they prop up the grades just to get this and that. We'll cover that. Because if we don't improve the education overall, we're screwed. and notice I say overall because there are colleges in Florida you need a 4.0 to get in
Starting point is 00:18:35 seriously I don't know what's going on in other states but you bet and then I will talk racism I don't care who you are what you are if you are a racist you will be laughed at and shunned there will be nothing like that everybody will be equal in our eyes we don't care if you're tall short skinny you're fat or overweight. We don't care if you're Jewish, Christian, Muslim seek what country you came
Starting point is 00:19:09 from, you will all have an equal opportunity and you will all be seen as equals with no agenda, ulterior motive, or any bias. And then we'll talk about Kamala Harris's numbers, $2 trillion deficits, 10 million people across the border. A ton of them we can't find. Babies and kids missing, that'll be for starters. Oh, inflation.
Starting point is 00:19:48 We'll cover that in droves because people are still paying monstrous amounts for so many things out there. And then we'll talk free. And we'll talk we, we'll talk we, as in we the people that you run the country, we work for you, not the other way around. That would be my debate.
Starting point is 00:20:20 I don't hold out much hope for what we'll hear tonight. On the economy, though, again, one is filet mignon, one is spam, and I trust neither, and I really don't trust her in that somehow she's erased her whole past. She says she still has the same values, but she's erased her whole past on what she would do if president. I trust as far as I can throw.
Starting point is 00:21:01 And I would charmingly explain that to the American public tonight. And of course, with Trump, are you still calling the people in jail for January 6 hostages and comparing them to the hostages in Israel? I'd ask him that. He'd probably turn into Ralph Cramden with the Humana, Humana, Humana. I would ask him about the tariffs. How is it possible an economy can stand if you do across-the-board tariffs? Impossibility.
Starting point is 00:21:35 I would ask him about his massive debt. in deficits while he was president. And what are you going to do differently? I would mow them both over. But I will state for the record again, we cannot continue the trajectory of a Biden-Harris administration going forward or a Harris, whatever this other guy, Waltz administration. And let me state for the record, I wouldn't let that guy run a lemonade stand. That'll be the debate tonight. We'll cover it tomorrow. And we're dead serious about everything we're saying to you right here. No sarcasm with any of it.
Starting point is 00:22:22 We'll see how it goes. And that is all. So, we segue. If I told you Goldman Sachs was down 21 and J.P. Morgan was down 11. I think at the lows it was 25 and 14. What would you think? of the market. I think it would be a little troublesome and yeah the Dow was down 92. But if you add up Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan, that would be about almost 200 Dow points,
Starting point is 00:23:03 but the Dow was only down 92. Up next, we'll go through what we saw. An amazing last few hours of the day. Eh, somewhat amazing. is the one only investors edge. Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. And all of those things are not something that generally, if you have a healthy gut, you should be living with. So that's when we deep dive. We deep dive into your medication. Investors Edge.
Starting point is 00:25:42 He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on his feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. With Gary Colbomb. It comes highly recommended. You're going to feel better if you talk to him. So, let me just tell you what happened early in the day. Are you ready?
Starting point is 00:26:04 Okay. Goldman Sachs said something about trading being down. And in case you don't know, Goldman and trading means a lot. It was still down $21.5 bucks today. 4.39%. At the lows, it was down 26. J.P. Morgan had some sort of conference and was down 11. a quarter percent. By the way, both of them broke the 50 day on very heavy volume. It was as low as down 16, J.P. Morgan Express, by the way, in the Dow was down five and a half. At one time today was down about 10. I don't know if you ever heard of Alley Financial, but they,
Starting point is 00:26:46 The automotive financing was down 18% today on nine times average volume, just breaking everything. Auto financing. Synchrony financial. Only finished down 2 to 46 and change, broke the 50 day, did hit, was down 4 at one time, but needless to say, it broke support. Capital One Financial. This would be credit card lending and stuff Was down $4.60 today to $1.38 break in the 50 day But it was down 10, maybe even 11.
Starting point is 00:27:33 On top of that, auto dealers got smoked, but off the lows still smoked. On top of that, well, we already know how weak the semis are. though they were up today, 54, at the close as they had a better close on the day, and still way down. GM and Ford breaking down. Hotels getting in trouble, we're talking technically. Cruise lines were getting in trouble early, still in trouble but not the end of the world as of yet. Commodities, oils, bare markets. especially oils.
Starting point is 00:28:24 That was smacked again today. Oil prices down another almost two and a half bucks. This was early on, and there was so much worse. The Dow was down 400, and I'm writing my notes here. I'm writing notes to myself about all these areas, and like, holy smokes, is this thing going to open wide? And it's not a dumb question when Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan Express, The lenders, the auto dealers, the cruise lines, the hotels are getting smoked.
Starting point is 00:29:03 Well, the down only finished down 92 today. And for a change. And we talk about this all the time to you when it comes to the indices that really should be fixed. Really should be fixed. the NASDAQ and the NASDAQ 100 today had good days. They have been very weak. Oracle was up 16 on their earnings. It was up 20, pulled back a little.
Starting point is 00:29:42 But because of Oracle, you had Microsoft up 8 and changed. That had been still very weak. And just back above the 200th day. The problem again is eight names are 46% of the NASDAQ 100. 92 names are 54%. And believe it or not, six names are just six names are 29% of the S&P 500. And that moved the dial today. That moved the dial today.
Starting point is 00:30:10 Just a few names. Microsoft up eight. Broadcom, which just got blasted on earnings, held the 200 day and bounce up seven. Amazon up four holding the 200 day. Envidia, just a little bit. Tesla up 10. By the way, Tesla was down 19 on Friday. I think it's back up 14 and 2 days.
Starting point is 00:30:36 And then the semis, which were weak early, came back by the end of the day, but still very weak. Just a very wicked day. We always talk to you about an edge. We love when we have a great edge in the markets. We can safely tell you, we don't have a great edge here because it's just whipping all over the place the last bunch of weeks. About eight weeks. First, we melted down. We'll call it a crachette.
Starting point is 00:31:04 A V-shaped move up. With the semis lagging and then leading down. Other things like commodities and oils. Gross. Then recently they came after everything economically sensitive, culminating today where they're getting some of the financials, the biggest of names. And then the auto dealers and some of these other economically sensitive.
Starting point is 00:31:30 and what do they do on that day? Oh, let's buy up the weak area and let's go after the mega cap tech for the day and have the indices do better. And that's what happened. It's so weird. Now, tonight, when you look at the new yearly high list, be careful, a crap load of bond funds are in there.
Starting point is 00:31:50 They are non-operating companies. They're just bond funds because the bond market, again, 3.646 on the 10-year yield, going into another inflation number tomorrow, which, by the way, will be good. because there are no bad numbers as we head towards the election. They only revise them way later, like the 800,000 jobs they got rid of just recently. And what we do is we just will scan and see what shows up.
Starting point is 00:32:23 There's some leadership out there. Walmart and the Dow, strong, strong. 3M and IBM, strong. Boeing, gross, Disney gross. By the way, I read a big article that came out, I believe it was a journal, well, it may have been New York Times, about what happened to Disney at the end between Chaypec and Bob Iger. Boy, that must have been a scene.
Starting point is 00:32:51 Needless to say, they did not get along and Iger ended up taking over, but the stock's been terrible since Iger took over. That's a tough road. They're still charging too much for the parks. that's going to be something they're going to have to address, especially if we go into some sort of pretty good recession. Intel got to be taken out of the doubt. But Johnson and Johnson and Coca-Cola and Procter and Gamble knew new highs
Starting point is 00:33:26 because it's very defensive. But the financial spoke today. And then there's Apple. Do you know they introduced the new iPhone and the stock's done nothing? even though analysts are falling all over themselves saying, this is it, this is the big cycle. But I went through it and I got to tell you, you know what Apple's talking about?
Starting point is 00:33:45 Not about the new phone. What's on the new phone? The whole AI thing. And I thought it was pretty impressive what I saw. But then I said to myself, okay, so on the new AI thing, if you take a picture of a restaurant, what's going to come up is a menu.
Starting point is 00:34:03 And information on the restaurant if you took a picture. Can I just just Google that? Why is that so much so much more? I'm going to take a deep dive on the Apple iPhone the next few days
Starting point is 00:34:20 and I'll report back to you. I have not upgraded my iPhone. I think I used to do every one. I think I have a 12. I'm not even sure what I have to be honest with you. This is a 16, right?
Starting point is 00:34:36 And we'll see what happened. Maybe it's the end-all be-all, but they did tell us the end-all-be-all was going to be the 5G. Remember that? You've got to have the 5G. You've got to have the 5G. You've got to have the 5G. We'll see. But just letting you know the stock has done nothing since the announcement.
Starting point is 00:34:52 And frankly, I thought it would do something. And frankly, it was actually down pretty decently today until it bounced. And did the same thing yesterday. But I just want to repeat again, boy, the market had a chance today to get smoked. when you got Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan and American Express, the three financial stocks and the Dow just gagging with a bunch of other financials and lenders. You know? You know? And it stalled on the downside. Some things bounced. I can't wait to scan this tonight. But I don't have great fat pitches this second. The good news is we know they'll show up. They always do.
Starting point is 00:35:42 You know the fat pitches, right? We tell you about fat pitches. On the fundamental side, we think it's great news. That yields are down to 3.646. That's mortgage rates. And we love the fact that oil prices, down to 65, 66. You know what that's going to be at the pump in the next 10 days? Awesome.
Starting point is 00:36:05 And maybe that helps. Up next, this, that, and the other thing, whatever else. This is the one only investors edge. Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. Starting point is 00:38:45 In the Gester's Edge. With Gary Culpa. Just a few things of note of import. Today, Joe Biden was out in the news, claiming that they created 16 million jobs again, which is a big, fat, juicy lie. About nine of them were comebacks from the... COVID. As I have stated to you, he has made the last president to a truth teller. That's how bad this guy is.
Starting point is 00:39:33 And of course, the media doesn't call him on it. Also want to mention, and this is where we always careful. You know what we always say to you, be careful about predictions, the end of the year's stuff and all that. I'm not going to mention who, but I got sent this that we're not going to mention, again, we're not going to mention who. Here's a little last year, somebody, the chief commodities person, strategist for a very big firm, oil prices will hit $100 in 2024. Well, there's, what, three and a half months left, and we're heading south on oil. You just got to be careful about that. We've been talking a little bit about all the, and Viti is the number one most talked about stock out there. I can promise you if
Starting point is 00:40:23 NVIDI wants to go to 50 bucks from 108 it will, and if it wants to go to 250 bucks it will. Our job is to catch moving trains, not predict them. That's the targets.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Joe Biden was also out today talking, had a picture of him and Obama about Obamacare and how well it's done and how many people are on it. I just attached a video of Mr. Gruber, who was one of the architects saying they lied about the whole thing and the American public is stupid and that's why they got away with their lies. Remember, Mr. Logic, they actually told everybody and the media went with it that they will put all these people onto insurance and get rid of preexisting conditions and your premiums would go down. not making this up
Starting point is 00:41:27 that they had the you know what's to tell us that and in case you don't know according to our U.S. government under Joe Biden they're telling us the cost of health insurance is declined 30% over the last two years
Starting point is 00:41:51 I want one of you to email me to let me know if any of your health insurance is down 30% in the last two years It's stunning. By the way, since Obamacare, the average family health insurance premium, since Obamacare is up 50%. That's according to the government. So the government doesn't even know what the left hand and the right hand's doing.
Starting point is 00:42:28 They lie on one and forget about the lie. You know, when somebody lies, they forget about it. That was that. The TSA, don't bring cat eyes on an airplane. I don't even know what a cat eye is, but it looks like brass knucks with very sharp points on it. It pretty much looks, is brass knucks with sharp points on it. Just letting you know they're going to take away your cat eyes if you go on TSA. I'm just bringing it up because I read it.
Starting point is 00:43:04 In the news, Gary Kelly, we had him on several times when he was CFO of Southwest Airlines, a very nice man. He became the CEO. He did a great job. When oil prices skyrocketed, he's the guy who hedged prices and saved the company bazillions and did a very good job with Southwest Airlines as CEO. There was a palace coup. They have activists out there and he's going to be gone in the next year. He's chairman of board too.
Starting point is 00:43:33 He's going to be gone. A bunch of board members are going to be gone. We'll see what that does. In case you don't know, Southwest Airlines is now going to do different kinds of getting on the plane. You're going to pay for premium seats so that you're changing up a little bit. I don't think that's the worst thing in the world. The biggest problem with Southwest Airlines is they used to be what is known as a discount airline. And there's no more discounts anymore. And do not believe for a second that Spirit Air is a discount airline.
Starting point is 00:44:00 When you see a $25 price, then you go in and says, well, when you breathe the air on the airplane, you pay $50. When you sit down, you pay $75. If you want some water, $100. That's sarcasm. but you're getting my point. And I'm still amazed how bad our government is, not letting JetBlue and Spirit Airlines get together. And that's this administration. They hate business. They hate, if you're too big, no good.
Starting point is 00:44:36 And what may end up happening is Spirit Airlines go by-bye. And somebody will take their gates and their planes, and that'll be the end of that. And in case you don't know why we think that, the stocks are $2.48. Sometimes the market knows a lot more than we know. And as we said earlier, J.P. Morgan and Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan had this conference today. There is worry now, specific worry about lending and how much there is and how many people want to borrow. Allie Financial says their challenges are intensified.
Starting point is 00:45:21 borrowers are struggling with high inflation cost of living and a weakening employment picture. And that's why Allie Financial completely broke down today. So there's a bunch of going on. I'm amazed at today. It really had a chance to do some gagging. And areas that had been weak really stood up. Tomorrow be another day. We have an inflation number in the morning.
Starting point is 00:45:47 Beats the heck out of me what it's going to be, except I'm pretty sure it'll be good, which means low, the rate of inflation down, especially with oil prices, just continue to crater. And what does that mean for the market? Beats the heck out of me. We'll see how it goes. For me, the big issue is what is the market flushing out right now as far as the economy? Is it going to be nominal weakening or more?
Starting point is 00:46:15 Jury's still out. Tomorrow be on the 1 p.m. show Fox Business Network. check that out. I gather we'll be talking debate, and we'll be back the same time tomorrow.
