Starting point is 00:00:33 Investor's Edge with Gary Coltbaum. Straight talk about you and your money. Now from the BizTalk Studios, here is Gary Cultbaum. And welcome once again to Investors Edge. I'm Gary Colp. I'm your host. A thanks of being with us today. Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen, happy that you are listening.
Starting point is 00:00:52 It is Monday, May 15th, 2003. Hope you're having a good day. was in New York for the weekend visiting my parents. My mom from Mother's Day, she's turning 90, June 27th. My father is turning 92, October 20th. By the way, that's Mickey Mantle's birthday. That's all I know about October 20th. Besides my father.
Starting point is 00:01:24 Trip went swimmingly well. both flights on Delta on time. They had, I think, chocolate roses for all the moms on my flight back yesterday, Delta. Well done by them. The only thing that was interesting about the weekend. You know this story about the man who choked out somebody that they thought was a threat to life on the subway and the man died
Starting point is 00:02:07 and he's being charged with manslaughter even though I don't know if you know this everybody on that train is backing the man up saying they were worried for their lives and they still invited him talk about political pressure
Starting point is 00:02:25 but they'll go through the justice process I was on the train this weekend and we had the same thing there was a guy definitely not in his right mind and he was carrying a two by four and when I used the term two by four it was just a big blunt instrument and he was waving it what do you do if your life is threatened I promise my family if I was ever threatened if I'm going out, I'm taking whoever with me. Fortunately, fortunately,
Starting point is 00:03:19 coming down the train to police officers. But there was about three minutes there where I was ready. He was looking at me. He was looking at others with big eyes. You know, he was, who knows if he was on, whatever it was. what are you supposed to do? You got to defend yourself. I was ready to give that guy
Starting point is 00:03:50 of the clothesline from hell. He wasn't that big, by the way. The clothesline from hell, that's my buddy John Layfield's finishing maneuver, the wrestling god, now retired. There was some women there. You can tell how afraid they were.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Myself and another person just waved them towards us. And they slowly inched towards us. What do you do? So here's this guy that the people on the train are calling a hero. The, let's call him quite the liberal DA, who lets criminals go, indicts him for manslaughter. Quickly! Quickly!
Starting point is 00:04:43 Just letting you know. Hey, hope you had a good Mother's Day. Hope you had a good week. And I thought that was worthy of note. We have lots to talk about today. And ladies and gentlemen, My goodness gracious, I am going to talk about a sector that is sticking out like a sore thumb for me today. On the good side, you know, we've been whining and complaining to about how bad the market's been, hasn't been broad-based.
Starting point is 00:05:15 We need more and more things to do better. Well, we had one of those days. Just so you know, when I give out. the numbers very simply you will not be impressed by the Dow very simply the Dow was flattened till the last minute or two I'm just going to tell you up front the Dow finished up 47 points is meaningless but underneath the surface on the New York 26 to 12 advanced declines 28 to 14 on the NASDAQ but that's not the story from me either. We'll get in one specific sector and a couple of others will address on a better
Starting point is 00:06:15 day. And remember, the indices have been trendless and friendless. The best thing I can tell you about the Dow is it held the 50-day moving average. The last three days almost to the penny. Again today. The NASDAQ's been better, but the NASDAQ advanced the Klein line is near bare market lows indicating what we have been telling you every day seven stocks 51% of NASDAQ 100 those same seven stocks are 23% of the S&P you need better we got some better today we're going to isolate it for you we're not going to tell you what to do we're going to tell you what we think and you get to decide it's your money but first or second, if you do not get this show in your city, we'll post it at garyk.com.
Starting point is 00:07:12 We'll also post it on our Twitter feed. You can follow me on Twitter, just go to Twitter, put my name in, or press the button at garyk.com. You can email me, just be nice. And by the way, as I've said to you, we had 90-some-odd thousand Twitter followers and the same week where they shut me down for a day because I said Bernie Sanders' economic policy was communist, while the mullers are threatening Jews on Twitter. Little Ome, shut me down. I went from 90,000 to 30,000 overnight.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Poof, disappeared. What can I tell you? Not a Kardashian. And again, email me, just be nice. That's all. We've got so many people that disagree with us. And that's great. That's what makes the markets.
Starting point is 00:08:04 It's what makes a free world. Got to just respect. The people we don't respect, Washington, D.C., are sports owners of our favorite team that have not done a good job. A lot of the media, not all. They're not really media. You really can't even call them media, and that's that. So you want to do right out of the get-go? The semiconductors.
Starting point is 00:08:38 So the semiconductors have been lagging. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, just so you know, is trading at the close today. The week of January 15, 2021, no gains. What is that? Two and a half years almost. The high was 4,068. It closed today at 3,052. What is that?
Starting point is 00:09:12 About 22%, let's call it. 4,000 minus the 23%. It's the most important. important to our work. It's a great leader up and down. It used to be financials. Then financials after 08, no longer leaders. Still important. Semiconductors took over. As I go through my list of semiconductor stocks, and there's about 60 names that I scan every night. Most still trade below the 50 days. Some have crashed. Qualcomm. In the last five weeks went from 128 to 105. It was 140 in February. It was 156 last July. That's just one.
Starting point is 00:10:17 And there's a lot worse. But earlier today, and I believe we've mentioned this to you, Micron, the company reports the worst earnings you've ever seen, sales growth down 53% year over year. The quarter they're in now, guidance is for another $1.60 loss and another 55, 60% drop in sales. But we've made note off of those earnings, it stopped going down. You couldn't have any, well, I guess you could have worse earnings.
Starting point is 00:10:55 And over the last, well, let me put it best. I'll do that next, whatever I was going to put best. Hope you're listening. This is important. This is the one only Investor's Edge. Hi, I'm Gary Kalbaum, hosted a nationally syndicated radio show Investors Edge. We're not just handsome radio people. We manage investors' money for a living,

Hi, I'm Dr. Jay Goodman, host of Beyond the Script. where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. In this episode, we are diving into gut health with CVS pharmacist Victoria Motola, who explains why so many of us live with stomach issues we should not accept as normal.
Starting point is 00:12:59 A lot of what I see is just like chronic bloating, chronic stomach aches. Like I get a stomach ache every time that I eat. And it just becomes like a lifestyle where, oh, yeah, you know, I just have a stomach kick every day. Or I'm constantly feeling like gassy. And all of those things are not something that generally, if you have a healthy gut, you should be living with. So that's when we deep dive. We deep dive into your medication. We deep dive into your OTC medication.
Starting point is 00:13:25 And then at that point, we can probably identify something that we can change. Hear the full conversation, plus some fascinating facts about how gut health affects so much more than just your stomach on Beyond the Script. a podcast from CVS Pharmacy and IHeartRadio. Listen now wherever you get your podcasts. Enjoying a healthy dinner that tastes great means eating out at a pricey restaurant, right? Wrong. Healthy Choice Simply steamers are delicious and healthy. The tray-and-tray steam technology delivers crisp veggies and tender protein and tasty selections,
Starting point is 00:14:04 like Healthy Choice Simply Steamers grilled chicken and broccoli alfredo. It's a satisfying meal with 28 grams of protein and nothing artificial. Healthy Choice Simply Steamers. What having it all tastes like. It's time to switch on the integrator units and get the brain cells working. You're listening to. Hey, this promises to be fun. Investors Edge.
Starting point is 00:14:31 The last bastion of quality programming. With Gary Coltbaum. It doesn't get better than this. So, Micron in November had $64,000. cents in January $64.34. In March, $64.42. In late April, $64.44. Four times within 10 cents of the high and it was stuffed each time. You can also go back to last August. It's $6542, just a dollar higher. You can go a week before the that first week in August, it's 6499 within 50 cents. That's the definition of resistance. Get there, knock down. Get there, knock down. Get there, knock down. When we use the term breakout, that means you finally get above it. At the close today, it closed at 64, 64, 20 cents above.
Starting point is 00:15:45 We'll see if it's meaningful. Volume was dead all day, picked up a little bit of, at the close 25% better than normal. Throughout the last weeks, the big bars and volume have been on up days. Lamb Research, 35% in better volume. Today, up 4.78% up $25 to $5.52, closed at a yearly high. Keep in mind, it is still trading where it was. That same January 15th of 21, 2 and a half years, almost. Hit a high as 730 closed at 552, but on a yearly basis, new yearly high.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Broadcom has not broken out, but a move above 649 would do it, and it's sitting in what we call a flat range, meaning just very nice, tight, flat range. If it breaks out, that would be another one. Why are we bringing this up? The semiconductor index, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, finished just back above the 50-day moving average. still needs work just letting you know it's a start if the semis go higher market's got a better chance
Starting point is 00:17:03 that's why we're bringing it up that's where we're starting today so while people reporting out the dial was only up 47 today we're here to tell you that the semiconductor index is up uh 2.6 and while the doubt was only up 47 the NASDAQ was up 80 because of the semis the NASDAQ 100 up 73 because of the semis By the way, NVIDE is part of the semiconductor class. That was up six today and continues to trade okay, but they do report in nine days. So we just wanted to start with that. We also mentioned also advanced declines were good.
Starting point is 00:17:45 Even the small caps were up today. We'll throw them a party. So we just wanted to start with that. Why? Damn, we want to get some bullish action. And there are a few names that are bullish. We jumped on Google last week when it knocked down to the upside. But, you know, really things haven't lasted.
Starting point is 00:18:08 We've got a few other things. But nothing spectacular. You can only get what the market gives. The other good news today is the worst areas were green. Financials were green today. Yay! That's not bad. I have yet to scan the financials.
Starting point is 00:18:29 I know they're going to look like a south end of a northbound jackass still. But an up day is an up day. So when we're done with the radio, I'm going to work out, do my thing, and then scan. I'm going to happily scan because I know I'm going to find a couple of things tonight. So today's market wrap brought to you by Investment-Dashmodels.com. That's Jim Roarback. One of the great market timers. No gray areas with the man you're either in or out of the market with its proprietary indicators.
Starting point is 00:19:00 Go check it out. investment dash models.com down only up 47. And may I say, it was up like nine with like two minutes to go. S&P up 12. I mentioned NASDAQ, stocks was up 79. Transport 63, advanced declines. 2612 on New York, 2814 on the NASDAQ. There was still more new yearly lows than new yearly highs on both in New York and
Starting point is 00:19:23 NASDAQ, but better. New highs. I actually started listing them earlier. I'm even going to give you that list because there's not many. Are you ready? I thought I had it. And I'm only going to give you Meaty. And what do I mean by Meaty?
Starting point is 00:19:51 M-E-A-T-Y? There's a bunch of crap at new highs. Boston Scientific, Medical, BSX, Oracle, General Mills. Builders First Source. Symbol B-L-D-R. Skechers. Ooh, I'm going to have to look at that one. I like the way that's been trading.
Starting point is 00:20:16 Canadian Pacific. Railroad, Canada. Shake Shack. It was already at New Yearly highs and an activist got involved over the weekend, so it was even more. Lamb Weston. Guess what that is?
Starting point is 00:20:32 Frozen chicken or something like that. Frozen potatoes. American movel. That was symbols AMX. I believe that's wireless. data and stuff in Mexico. And just so you know, I'm on the New York here. Symbol ABB, which is ABB,
Starting point is 00:20:52 out of Switzerland. I'm on the New York and I'm almost done. That's the situation. Martin Marietta Materials, MLM. HubSpot, H-U-B-S. Here's a semi that doesn't trade a lot. O-N-T-O is the symbol. Broke out today of range.
Starting point is 00:21:19 I'm pretty much done on the New York Stone Co not Stone Coe Steve Austin Stone Co STNE is the symbol that's my New York Well the Lamb Research is showing on the New York also We mentioned that
Starting point is 00:21:41 FlyW PhlyW Harmonic Inc used to be harmonic light waves HLIT Exact Sciences EXAS Jack in the box That's a new yearly high
Starting point is 00:22:01 That's it On the NASDAQ It'll be less And again we're not mentioned the crap Pepsi We'll add to that Here's a biotech that I think has some meat Want to make sure before I mention it
Starting point is 00:22:29 No forget it uh... dun dun dun dun ryanair rye a i mentioned that last week to you that's it that's your whole new yearly highs
Starting point is 00:22:48 if we're going to have a good market we're going to need more we're going to need more leadership we're going to need more names and I'm just letting you know good to see the semis wake up today up next more oh and and and
Starting point is 00:23:02 lots of news. This is the one only investors edge. Starting point is 00:25:56 It's a satisfying meal with 28 grams of protein and nothing artificial. Healthy Choice Simply Steamers. What having it all tastes like. We're listening to. America is talking. Investors Edge. He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on his feet here.
Starting point is 00:26:18 He's a Cinderella boy. With Gary Coltbaum. It comes highly recommended. You're going to feel better if you talk to him. And walk once again to Investors Edge. You know, we thought that the last president is one of the most divisive presidents we've ever had. We used to call him the Eddie Haskell of presidents. If you know Eddie Haskell of Leave it to Beaver. This dude in the White House right now, you just got to realize it's not reported.
Starting point is 00:27:11 That's the difference. he goes to a black college this weekend and says the biggest threat this country has is white supremacy. It's unbelievable. That's our biggest threat. Well, at least he didn't say climate change. This creep of a president pandered with just a gargantuan lie
Starting point is 00:27:51 made up out of thin air. Stoking or trying to stoke racial division. This is the president of the United States. I got sick of the last guy, nauseated by him, and still am. And this Yutz Stokes racial division when he should be there inspiring this young men and women.
Starting point is 00:28:25 He was at a college doing a speech warning these students about whites, What an ass. And I would not say anything on this show. I would not say to his face. He's just a human being like I am. Doesn't not matter to me what a title is. I've met a lot of people, a lot of great titles that were ass clowns.
Starting point is 00:29:02 So depressing. So depressing. Greatest terrorism threat to the country. Howard University. Gary Colbaum would have been up there and said, study hard work hard find something you love become great at it market yourself do great things produce create mentor others lead others when able give to those in need need no why I would actually go up to the president, tell him right now he sucks.
Starting point is 00:30:20 What an opportunity. The face of this world. Who else do you know? Who is more famous than Joe Biden? Can you name any on two hands? You really can't. And this was his message. Next.
Starting point is 00:30:53 While we're on the subject, just letting you know, federal tax revenue down 6% in the last year, government spending up 7% result. Just letting you know, Joe Biden, the greatest president on debt and deficits, is running a $2 trillion deficit this year. Just want to let you know. That's post-COVID. So he lies also. Phil Knight, speaking of what I just mentioned, Phil Knight started Nike. Oh, he's donating $400 million to rebuild black communities in Portland, Oregon.
Starting point is 00:31:37 He must be a white supremacist. Right, Joe Biden? Last I look, Phil Knight was white. 400 million of his dollars to rebuild black communities in Portland. Need I say more? There you go. Things I talk about all the time here. A six-month-old was killed by two teens who stole a car, was driving 100 miles an hour just outside of Chicago, killed a six-month-old baby.
Starting point is 00:32:21 The Cook County State Attorney Kim Fox, who basically lets anybody out, charged them with misdemeanors. Just letting you know. Which means other people that age will say, you know, I can drive 100 miles an hour too, and hopefully I don't kill anybody. John Morant, have you read this one? Pretty much going forward was going to be the superstar of the NBA. I mean, amazing talent. He was suspended in the middle of the year, I think, eight games for brandishing a gun. And there's been some other things he's been accused of beating the crap out of somebody with people he was with.
Starting point is 00:33:01 But he wasn't arrested for it. Unbelievable. they make a video I don't know what app it was on or whatever of him with a gun again in his hands in a car and you can tell it was posted on something live what is it Facebook live or something live and once it's up there you can't they took it down but it was already out there and you can see that when it panned to him oh crap get that way do you know His contract is $40 million a year. There is a good chance that I'm hearing.
Starting point is 00:33:46 He may get suspended for next year. $39 million a year. He had said he spoke with people. He learned his lesson. He needs to spend 15 minutes with me. Unbelievable. Assault weapons ban gaining momentum in certain states. Just letting you know.
Starting point is 00:34:17 You know where I stand. anything that can stop violence from bad people, I'm good with. Show me. Give it to me. Anyway, certain states, Washington Governor Inslee signed a state assault weapons ban. So there's a shift in some states for this to happen. We'll see how it plays out. I want to just let you know.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Gavin Newsom. He is the Marxist in California that believes in rules, regulations, feigns, fines, mandate, taxes. Well, he went a little bit too far. He got this reparations board to come up with ideas, and it turns out the reparations board basically wants to, guess what? Just give us all the money. Give us everything. It amounted for almost a trillion bucks. and now the governor's put himself in a box
Starting point is 00:35:23 because if he goes against the reparations board he's a bad guy and he can't do it because they don't have the money because they have a major deficit in California without taking aside this is where a governor doesn't have a clue panders give me your votes and now he's a doofus
Starting point is 00:35:47 in the news looks like Washington also wants to get rid of chocolate milk that's DC chocolate milk and flavored milk's bad in the schools just letting you know because they want to tell you what to do and what to
Starting point is 00:36:05 eat even though America's snacking bin showing no signs of slowing in fact companies that sell snacks have decided to stop selling snacks that have less calories because they realize people love the good stuff. Do you know nearly half of U.S. consumers reading three or more snacks a day,
Starting point is 00:36:24 up 8% in the past two years? And you know what we're talking about. Chips, dips, chocolates, all that. Enjoy, ladies and gentlemen. Up next, back on markets. This is the one only investor's edge. It's a satisfying meal with 28 grams of protein and nothing artificial. Healthy Choice Simply Semeers.
Starting point is 00:39:51 steamers what having it all tastes like you're listening to by what are you waiting for what are you waiting for one two ready go action with gary colpa da da da da uh by the way the title of the story in the wall street journal not making this up pepsies new healthy diet more potato chips and soda Quote, if people are going to eat junk food anyway, the company figures it should include less salt, fat, and sugar, but a Pepsi try to move past junk food and shift its business towards hummus, yogurt, vegetable, crisp, and fruit and nut bars, which, by the way, are not that great for the other way. And then it says, never mind, the world's largest snack foot company is back to pushing Pepsi Doritos and Lays.
Starting point is 00:40:57 And you do realize what the problem with Doritos are, right? don't ever put a party bag in your hands. If you eat one chip, you're eating the whole freaking bad. Trust me on that. They put something in there. I don't know what it is. It makes you want to eat the whole bag. And I mean the party bag.
Starting point is 00:41:21 Seriously. My old producer, God bless him, let him rest in peace, Colin Brady, was the king of the party bags of chips and Doritos. Here's to you, health, ladies and gentlemen. Hey, and one more thing in the news. I'm going to take that back two more things. H&R Block and Intuit were both down today. They recovered a little bit with a better market.
Starting point is 00:41:49 Our government, the IRS, is weighing creating a government-run tax prep option, which means business from Intuit and H.R. Block would go down, which begs the question, what could go wrong? Because whenever government gets into something, what can go wrong? And then last but not least. automakers it's a new electric vehicle gold rush automakers are scrambling to get into the mining business because they realize they don't have enough stuff for electric vehicle batteries what is the stuff the materials so the car companies and mining who knows what they're going to do when GM outlined plans in 2020 to go all electric they didn't account for Battery minerals. Somebody from GM says,
Starting point is 00:42:50 I remember seeing a report from a raw materials team at this time saying there's plenty of lithium out there is plenty of nickel. We will buy them from the open market. GM executives soon came to discover how off the mark those projections were, and now Mr. Cunjur's 40-person team is scouring the globe for these minerals. Just remember what we've told you. Government's trying to push the electric vehicle thing onto us. Fine, dandy. They've screwed everything else up.
Starting point is 00:43:24 What can go wrong? And that is all your news of the day, which I'd like to classify as hilarious, but quite depressing. Two trillion dollar deficit, yet the president who calls the last guy a liar, tells us how much he's lowered the deficit. And the media sits there on their arses saying nothing about it. You know, a journalist can ask a simple question. A simple question. You keep telling us you lowered the deficit in record fashions, but everyone knows that's not true because all you're talking about is coming down from the COVID spending, which was a big one time. On top of that, you are running a historical record deficit this year, which is going to touch $2 trillion.
Starting point is 00:44:29 dollars. Would you please stand up and tell the truth? But a journalist can't do that. They lose their job for being an honest journalist or their place in line to ask the next questions. Now if it's somebody they don't like, they give them a colonoscopy. And that's how you get to a $2 trillion deficit this year and nobody says a freaking thing. And let me remind you what that is. Our government spending $2 trillion more than they are supposed to, and they're able to because they don't go jail for it. If they went to jail for it, they wouldn't be doing it. Just like I just did a whole list on what these criminals in D.C. are doing with insider trading on both sides of the aisle.
Starting point is 00:45:22 And let me be clear and concise about it. Illegal insider trading is a practice from our politicians. For them, it's not illegal. And when they do get investigated, everything's fine. We go to jail for everything they are doing. They have become wealthy beyond imagination on their salaries by cheating. And we're supposed to hold them up. And when they're in these committees, you know what their little plaque says in front of them?
Starting point is 00:46:01 The little thing? The honorable so-and-so. Back to the markets. So I've yet to scan. I know what I'm going to find with the financials. I hope to be able to one day come on to this show and say to you, the worst is over for the financials. I haven't even been able to do that. We've had up days.
Starting point is 00:46:33 we have some things nicely off the lows. Most things are not. I have stated to you, and I'll say it again, if we can ever normalize this thing, oh, there's going to be good money to make. The question is, my answer is I don't know, but I have yet to give the all clear for myself. The semiconductors, a sore thumb today.
Starting point is 00:47:08 Volume picked up at the end of the day, but still not. I love big, juicy gargantuan volume for the moves when I see them. Did not see that today. Better into the clothes. If the semis can get legs, it will add to the potential this market to get the heck out of this stupid range bound nausea. We'll keep you up to date daily. Tamar?
