Investor's Edge with Gary Coltbaum.
Straight talk about you and your money.
Now from the BizTalk Studios, here is Gary Coltbaum.
And welcome once again to Investors Edge.
I'm Gary Coltbaum, your host.
A thanks for being with us today.
Glad you're here, ladies and gentlemen.
Happy that you are listening.
It's the 27th of October, 2006.
I believe it's a Tuesday.
Hope you're having a good day.
As always, serious talk.
and we mean serious talk on everything that affects you. We will do the markets. We will do the
elections. We will do the stupidity of the elections, not the election itself, but you'll get the
point when I get into it. We'll do your job, your industry, everything that's affecting it.
We'll do scams and shams and the massive corruption emanating from DC that we never used to have to
talk about. Remember years of
ago, you know what we did on the show? We did the markets. We did the economy. And then all of a sudden
we noticed, oh, $250 billion deficit. Oh, 400 billion, oh, 600 billion, oh, 600 billion, oh,
the banks just committed massive fraud. And what they do, the politicians gave us,
gave them $800 billion of our tax dollars to a bunch of crooks, and we got nothing out of it,
and they'd become billionaires off of it. And then we got to $700 billion, and then a trillion.
And we just kept getting more and more of the middle finger to the point now. We have $2 trillion
deficits, yet the President of the United States and his economic guy came out and told us the
economy is great. Let me be clear and concise with you. No economy is great when you're running
$2 trillion deficits.
Just remember that.
Impossible.
It goes on GDP.
You take that out like it's supposed to be.
Everything changes.
We'll do a little bit, that in a bit.
And if you do not get this radio show in your city,
we will post it at garyk.com.
We'll also post it on our X feed.
And if you don't follow us on X, you should.
We'll also post it on the Biz TV YouTube channel.
And if you want to email us, just be nice, respectful. We'll be nice respectful back, unless you're a terrorist, beat somebody up, robbed a bank today, professes love for Hamas, and all that crap. All right. Where are we starting? We're going markets. So we want to be real careful about what we say because we're in the midst of earning season. And as I speak, a very important name,
called Seagate Technologies.
Seagate, one of the big winners of the recent past, closed at $667.
By the way, down from $1,145 recently, it is down $56 in the aftermarket on their earnings
reports.
I'm just noticing that one.
There's some other things being reported, but I have to start with that.
a big matzabal.
And I'm not sure if we're going to get pin action off of that or not,
but that is not good news for things like Western Digital or Sandisk and some other things.
But we'll see how the night goes.
What we wanted to mention was 11,000 on the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index.
It is held for months with a couple of undercuts.
and we were up today, 399 to 11-482.
Very nice move.
Let me give the negative first.
If at any time it breaks 11,000 and sticks below it and doesn't get above it quickly,
that will be bad news.
D-U-H.
But we say that because it has hit that level a few times and bounced well, including today.
So it is of importance.
And what it did today, it helped.
The NASDAQ up 308, the NASDAQ 100, 378.
The semiconductors are the most important areas, is the most important area to our business right now.
It used to be the financials until they became crooks and can't trust them.
So semis one, financials, too, but financials quite important also.
So mark that 11,000 thereabouts.
It does not have to be a perfect number.
It's thereabouts.
And may I state for the record, we're going to watch Seagate,
how it trades in the aftermarket.
That's going to be of import.
And by the way, the reason why we don't blink in the aftermarket,
It was just $610 in the aftermarket.
It's already $6.22.
Still down $45, which is not good news.
But anything is possible because these companies not only report, they do the dog and pony show where they tell you how everything is fantastic.
Life in general is terrific.
Don't worry about anything.
We worry about everything.
What can I tell you?
So that's first and foremost we wanted to start with.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, also of note, when we get rallies like this,
and it's a nascent rally, we look to see where the strength is and the weakness has been so bad
and so many stocks are down so far, there's no leadership, but what we try to do right now is
where's the strength? What's the strongest semiconductor? And we're talking about the important ones.
Well, number one is AMD. And interesting enough, before this big drop, it was AMD. Remember,
markets have memory. So AMD, back above the 50 day, there's only one problem. They report in five
trading days. So I'm not touching it. Hell no. But just letting you know, and it's not in the
market. It's not ascending, but it's showing great relative strength. Away from the semis,
what's the strength? Dell and Light. Guess what? They were the strength before the big drop,
so they're already reasserting themselves. Again, markets have memory. But again, I repeat,
earning season. And I can promise you, that's going to change playing fields big time. We'll see
how C-Gate finishes. I got a few more in the aftermarket to look at. Well, that's the one that's
really important for the record. I got a couple others that are getting blown up. NXP Semiconductor
is down 20 bucks in the aftermarket. And that's not good news. And we'll see about tomorrow
and more earnings to come. Do not forget, I got nine pages of earnings this week. I got 30 pages
in the next two weeks.
This week, it got some big names.
Next week, a lot more.
Most of the big banks have reported.
I think all the big banks have reported.
They have been a mess,
though a couple had a decent day today.
We'll get into yields.
We'll get into oil prices.
We'll get into the election.
We're going to get into the hotels
because the hotels
have been acting pretty strong
but then Hilton reported earnings.
And it got smacked in the teeth.
We'll get into that too.
Main theme, a little better, a lot better in the semis and the AI today.
But as I go through stock by stock, it is a freaking mess.
It's the best way I can put it, because so many stocks have been absolutely,
Absolutely blasted.
And when we mean blasted, we mean blasted.
There are some AI and semis down 50, 60, and 70%.
And I can promise you, a lot of them ain't coming back.
Our interest is going to be in the mainstays, the big names that led before.
We're interested to see, are they going to lead again?
I do not have one stock ascending in bullish phase.
We're just maybe starting to recover a little bit in those very vital, important areas because of how influential they are on the big indices.
We've already discussed that with you.
15 stocks make up 47% of the S&P market.
market cap. 485 of them make up 53%. That is insane concentration, ladies and gentlemen.
And when I say insane, I mean insane. Beyond the beyond. One name that ain't getting going is
meta. When you announce big, big money raise through debt and equity, you're going. You're
to pay a stiff penalty and amazingly meta whose stock was doing better because of that
muse has just dropped from 771 to 620 in 10 days yikes up next we'll further this i'm gary this is the one

It doesn't get better than this.
And welcome once again to Investor's Edge.
Thanks for being with us today.
Hope you're having a good day.
All right, let's skip around a little bit if you don't mind.
A few things of note.
Number one, oil.
Drop a buck 75 today for both Brent and crude.
That's good to see.
we are being teased, I don't know if that's a good word, teased, telegraphed, that we are going to attack Iran again after the election.
Now, as you know, this president likes playing social media with war, which we are 1,000% against.
but they're telegraphing something after the election, whether or not they do or not, I don't know,
in what form we don't know, but they're telegraphing it.
Oil, Brent is still 114.
I heard, and I'm going to go check after radio today, that the price of the pump has come down over the last few days.
And you know why?
Because I think it gets it stopped going up.
But we'll take it.
as we head into the election.
We'll see if it turns back up.
We do know yields much better.
We're at 4.993 on the 10 year.
We were at 5.364.
So much, much better.
Let's hope that continues.
The Fed is tomorrow.
We cannot guarantee,
but if I was a betting man,
they're doing nothing tomorrow
because, number one,
they've already moved. Number two, the yields have come down and number three. The election.
There's really no reason to raise rates now, especially going into an election, which is Tuesday.
So we expect nothing. As far as what they say, we have no idea, but we gather they're going to say
we still stand fast about fighting inflation and making sure it does not worsen. So we expect that to
happen. Next, I just got to mention this, steel stocks. One of our biggest complaints about
this president, especially when he was going nuts on the tariffs, is on a Monday, he puts on a
tariff on a Tuesday, he takes it off on a Wednesday, he puts it back on on a Thursday. He
lowers it on a fright. You get my point. I don't think it's a reach to say that five times in the
last 60 days. They have changed their stance on steel tariffs and did it again today. So the steel
stocks had a very good day. Just letting you know. I will tell you in mid-August, they crumbled
on one tariff announcement. I will tell you in early September, they rallied on another.
mid-September they will drop like a rock on another and now better.
We're just puppets.
We're just puppets.
And by the way, you know what we think of tariffs and you know the president has been caught in just massive lies about them.
He said tariffs are paid by others, but he'll take off a tariff in order to help the farmers.
But wait a man, I thought it doesn't, you get my point.
the bull crap that is being spewed is just unbelievable.
Anyway, that's the steel thing I wanted to mention also.
Next, I mentioned something in the last couple of weeks.
I do not understand why oil prices are so high when we are told we control the straight,
when we are told we are producing tons of oil,
when we are told that we're getting tons from Venezuela and this, that.
I would have thought prices were at 70, 75.
I'm being told that the cost of transport's too high and that's what's doing it.
I'm not buying it.
To me, that doesn't make sense.
There is something else going on with oil prices.
I gather we're going to find out eventually and I hope does not stick.
Because we have economies around the globe that.
that have been used to $60 and $70 oil.
If we stay at 100 for a long while, not good news,
especially on the diesel front,
oh, by the way, the socialist president,
is giving the farmers a ton of our tax dollars
because they're pissed off at him
for what he's done with diesel prices.
I want you to remember that as he calls
the other party socialist.
There is, you can't be more socialist than taking our tax dollars to pay off somebody that you hurt with tariffs.
You can't be more socialist promising to give out $5,000 to everybody if you vote for him or them in the election and they win.
You can't be more socialist.
That's why we don't listen to anything the guy really says because, come on.
Remember, we are the people.
here with no bias agenda or ulterior motive. We are no fans of any of them and we don't
see Donald Trump, we don't see Schumer, we just care about policy and if the policy's
great we're gonna praise it if the policy sucks we're gonna rip it apart. So going
into the election as you know I am a big believer that the Democrats are
gonna kill them in the house though would have been worse except for the
gerrymandering, which, by the way, both parties do. There are those saying that they'll get
225 to 230. I wonder if it's going to be 240. We'll see. The Senate should have been easy
pickings for the Republicans to keep. I think it's going to be touch and go. Texas is going to
matter. As you know, they put in this moron, Paxton. And, and
Cornyn would have been a layup to keep the Senate in Texas.
But you got this Paxton.
It was just a creep.
And you can go look it up.
So we'll see what happens.
Their main is going to be important.
And there's a few others.
Ohio, I think, is lost because that Vivek guy is a moron also.
So that's going to be close.
I got it 50-50, which means Republicans will keep the Senate.
if 50-50.
I will tell you the polls have been moving towards the Democrats,
especially the early voting in a lot of places.
So this is going to be interesting next Tuesday.
I did a whole dissertation on Alaska yesterday.
I stand by it.
That's where the Democrats are being crooked and chicanery.
And I believe the Department of Justice should have filed a lawsuit
against what they're doing, putting somebody up with the same name,
as the Republican.
That's the election.
Up next, what else we got beyond the markets?
This is the one that only Investors Edge.
We're listening to America is talking.
Investors Edge.
He's got to be pleased with that.
The crowd is just on his feet here.
He's a Cinderella boy.
With Gary Colbomb.
It comes highly recommended.
You're going to feel better if you talk to him.
And welcome once again to Investors Edge.
If you're not sure what I meant in a land.
You got a guy Republican running named Dan Sullivan and out of nowhere another person by the name of Dan Sullivan's running.
And I will promise you.
No, I can't promise.
I will tell you this was a plant by the Democrat Party.
No doubt my mind.
They're trying to absolve themselves but all evidence in.
And the Department of Justice, which by the way is run by Donald Trump, unfortunately.
Unfortunately, as you know, they're going after Comey again, which is ridiculous.
Just disgusting.
Anyway, they filed a lawsuit against him being able to run and you, I mean, it's the same name,
but leave no doubt it's a plant.
And I think it absolutely sucks.
And it tells you how bad the other side is.
As you know, we can't stand either side.
I think they're all insane.
None of them are working for us.
They're all working for themselves and making themselves rich beyond the beyond.
as politicians and cabinet members and all that crap.
They've proven everything I've told you.
Anyway, that's the story behind that.
And as you know, I'm vehemently against what Trump did with the January 6th thing
and pardoning all of them and all that crap.
And continuing to say he won the election, which, by the way, he loses votes for Republicans
every time he says it.
But in this case, I think it has merit.
And if I was the Department of Justice, I would have gone after it also.
And if I was Trump, I would have gone after it also.
I think it absolutely sucks.
Moving on, earning season, as I said, looking forward to what's going to come of it.
And give you an idea, VISA's been a strong financial.
It's down $10 in the aftermarket.
Seagate is only down $42 now.
It was down $60, but still,
down 42 in the aftermarket. That's not going to be good news tomorrow. NXP semi. I got it down
$22 to $231. That's another semi. Robin Hood closed at 95. I got it at 89. F5 networks closed at
460. I got it at 445. You getting that? Manhattan Associates closed at 233, but that's
257. So one up, a few of them down. I've yet to go through the rest of them. But that's what we're going to be
dealing with going forward. And I can tell you there's been a lot of jello moving on the plate.
I mentioned, Royal Caribbean up 15 was up 25, Celestica up 30. That was a good move. And then I can tell
you something called ComVolt Systems. You ready for this one? Opens at 153. Opens at 153,
down 14. Finishes up five.
So you never know on any given day whether something gaps to the upside and goes down,
gaps to the downside and goes up.
And we just pay attention.
Oh, here's another beauty, Terradine.
So it's semiconductors, as much as I'm talking them up right now for today's action,
Terradine closed at 324.
I got a 303.
So I got Terradine, NXP semiconductor,
and Seagate, which is not a semiconductor, getting whacked in the aftermarket.
Though Seagate, it's better, you know, I'd like to say this is good news.
It's down 42 bucks in the aftermarket.
It was down 60.
Anyway, so three semiconductor stocks getting hit.
I'm looking for anything else that reported.
That's about it.
And may I repeat, for the record, we have a few thousand to report going forward.
Some good will turn bad, some bad will turn good.
Just be ready.
We'll let you know.
We're up early.
We're asleep later.
Well, not asleep later, but work later as we sift through the numbers, the guidance,
but most importantly, the reaction.
That's what matters to us most.
Few other things of note today in the market, Tesla.
Got a big upgrade yesterday and moved a little bit.
above lower level resistance, up another 15 today. Had a good day. I cannot argue the point.
It's coming up the right side nicely. I do want to make no. Tesla is trading where it did
November of 21. Five years of no gains. Just want to let you know. Most people don't recognize
these things. We're always looking at longer term charts also.
Years of no gains. Not as bad though as like how about Disney? Do you know Disney is trading where it did in 15?
11 years of no gains. How about Nike? Trading where it was in 13. Of course did it hit a higher 180 and is now at 37 and somehow still in the Dow. What are they waiting for?
So there's a lot of that going on.
You've got to know what is, what isn't.
Also today, just want to make no, just sticking out, sore thumbs.
Boeing.
So the Dow today was up 16, but Caterpillar was up and Golden was up both together up $40.
That's 260 Dow points.
How is the Dow only up 15?
Boeing was down 20.
That's 130, 140 Dow points.
Just letting you know Boeing is at a new yearly low,
down on six times average volume.
I did not spend time on their earnings,
but I gather they said something the market didn't like.
And speaking of that, Boeing stock is trading where it did,
10 years ago and hit a high of 446. It's 168. In case you don't know, you had those crashes back in 19, completely
mishandled by the old CEO. He's gone. And just it's been somewhat of Murphy's Law out there.
And again, I haven't really gone through their numbers as of yet.
Been moey busy today.
But we'll do that tonight.
But all we can tell you, new yearly low, that be bad news on Boeing.
Anything else a sort of, I'm sure, when Williams in the down, dropped nine today.
Though, yeah, down nine.
a bad open. That was earnings also. Housing, housing related has been a little bit better,
but mostly bare market. And when we say that, those are the housing stocks. Those are the
floor and the cores. The only one that's really strong, somewhat strong is William Sonoma. That's
housing related, right? To a decent extent. And you know what I haven't looked at in a while? How's
restoration hardware. That's also a boy oh boy. Talk about stocks gone from
750 up to down to a dollar 40 since 2021. Dang. Hey kids we're told the market's great.
You make big just make sure whatever you're in is doing the right thing.
HCA hospital down 15 today on their earnings. So that was roughed up. There was some
roughed up things today. Decent amount of bad reactions. Whirlpool, speaking of housing related,
do you know it's gone from 95 to 27 since February? You know what? I didn't even realize that.
Wow. And I mentioned Hilton. Hotels have been acting great. Hilton finished down seven today to
344, but was it 335 at one time, down 16 and change? We'll see.
see if that sticks. Their numbers are okay. Didn't see anything bad there. And I check out hotel
prices across the gamut. Boy, they're getting some good pricing around the globe. I can tell you
that. Anything else Corning reported and it was down in a good artificial intelligence day. That's
not great news. And that's really about it. I need to cover. Oh, HSBC. Money Center Bank
across the globe.
Down 6% has gone from 107 to 86 and 6 weeks.
So there's a lot of that going on too.
So again, very good AI semiconductor day,
but maybe some of this drop in the aftermarket
will have an effect tomorrow.
We'll see.
There's a lot more earnings to come out.
Up next, what else?
This is the one only investor's edge.
You're listening to
What are we waiting for?
Well, what are you waiting for?
One, two, ready, go.
Action!
Investors Edge with Gary Culper.
Welcome once again to Investors Edge.
So, uh, here we go again.
Kevin Hassett, the head of the economic advising for Trump, came out and said that the affordability thing is a myth.
I don't even know what to say.
You know what that is?
just more video for the Democrats to run for the election.
Affordability is a myth.
The president, again last night, affordability is a con.
And I'm just thinking to myself, they have to want to lose.
Every day, the number one issue on the minds of voters is affordability.
And you have the president representing the Republican Party.
calling it a con and the head of the economic council saying it is a myth. Again, if I wanted the party to lose the elections next Tuesday, that's how I would do it. The number one issue, they're insane. They're insane. And somebody like me who spends some time
on all this.
The bags of chips are smaller.
The price of chocolate is skyrocket.
We're now at Halloween.
Insurance, home insurance,
renters insurance up there.
To rent is up there.
The average price for a new car is $50,000.
Meat prices have soared.
Want me to continue?
I can go on and on and on of costs going up.
And some of them, there's blame.
Tariffs raise costs of products here in the states.
Anybody who says otherwise is full a crap, namely you know who.
Yet a myth and a con.
It is the weirdest thing to watch this going on within days.
of the election. So somebody on the fence turns on that is looking at their
checkbook every week, every month based on geez gosh, geez gosh, geez gosh,
geez gosh, and they're saying it's a myth and a con. You know what, screw you
I'm voting for the other side or I was gonna vote for you and now I'm not gonna
vote. And then there's the other side. They're equally in
if not more. Do you know what I noticed today? You know this Ilan Omar? I can take her or leave her.
I believe her and her squad hate America. I would say it to their face. You might as well
just say, I hate America. And of course, they hate Jews. They hate Israel. They show that every day.
So the president's accusing her things, and I'm not going to get into that. But you know who she
sits down with some guy, I'm not even going to mention his name, who said we deserve 9-11.
And she thinks that's going to help her cause. She sat down with a guy who's a streamer and a
podcaster and has a lot of people follow him who the quote was, we deserve 9-11.
I'm not paraphrasing. Imagine innocent victim.
jumped off of the Twin Towers and died landing on the ground because they don't want to get burned.
Airplanes into buildings.
Heroes getting airplanes into Shanksville, Pennsylvania in order for not to hit the White House.
And you have a guy saying, we deserve 9-11, which you are pissing all over the victims and their families,
and Ilhan Omar sat down with him to try to defend themselves with smiles on her face.
And she thinks that's going to help her party?
So when we tell you, they all suck, there you go.
And if you ask yourself, Gary, you're bringing all this up because these elections matter.
One's worse than the other.
$2 trillion deficits, corruption run amok, the president and his family making billions off of the presidency,
both parties insider trading stocks that they're on the committees for.
Somebody's got to speak up, and we're going to continue with no agenda, no ulterior mode of the bias,
because I got newsfea when all is said and done, it's going to affect the markets.
We've already seen interest rate spike.
We've already seen oil prices really go up based on decision making.
We hope for better, but we know what we're dealing with now.
A bunch of politicians in D.C. that are making themselves rich off of their power and giving us the middle finger.
While telling us how much they're going to do for us if you elect them or reelect them.
and not one of you can argue with anything I am stating.
It's all factual.
And we take no joy in it.
All right.
So we got some crappy aftermarket.
After the close, the semis had a real good day today.
And maybe it's going to get, well, we'll see.
We're hopeful.
We want better.
The market's been real tough, real rough,
and then we got thousands more earnings.
reports to come out. So we're going to watch Seagate tomorrow, Terradine tomorrow, Visa
Tomorrow, NXP semi, and then we'll get a bunch more in the morning as we head into massive
amounts of earnings. And as we repeat, we will be on top of it for you and for us.
but the most important part of the equation
never lose big
never run stocks down
we mentioned a few that haven't done anything for years
on our way down some big names like Boeing and Disney
it is mooy importante you stay on top of things
we mentioned meta just went from 780 to 620
you'll have a great evening drive carefully when you get home
do like we do make sure you hug your face
family, hug your children, hug your pets.
And we'll be right back tomorrow.
Stay well, be well.
Good night.
