I'm Gary Colpom, your host. A thanks for being with us today. Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen, happy that you are listening. It's the 23rd, 2006, March, Monday.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Hope you had a good weekend. Oh, we have lots to cover. and you're going to be very surprised about my reaction to something once we get going. But first, this is serious talk about everything that affect you. The markets, the economy, your job, your industry, war, tariffs, lies up the wazoo, and whatever else. And if you do not get this radio show in your city, we'll post it at Gary K. com. Also on our X feed, if you don't follow us, and X you should. Also posted on the Biz TV YouTube channel.
Starting point is 00:01:10 If you'd like to email me, just be nice. No, really, just be nice. So, first off, my weekend. Took the train to South Florida and back. My wife was already down there. My father-in-law passed away at 92. So in the last 18 months, my mom at 9. 91, my father at 93. My father-in-law who lived with us for more than a decade at 92 went very downhill.
Starting point is 00:01:46 I guess you hit a wall somewhere and just boom. The last four months just straight downhill at the end couldn't eat. It was that. and all doing well. I have to tell you, I can never get over a military funeral when they come and play taps. Boy, that really gets you. That really gets you. Anyway, I took the bright line, and I'm a big train lover, especially in Europe and Japan. I haven't taken it here, but I took it here. It's this new thing that's been going on for a year or so.
Starting point is 00:02:27 I thought it was fantastic. Go in there. We would delay about an hour because trains come the other way. You got to wait. On the way back, no problem. I paid a little extra for premium. It was really good.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Really enjoyed it. I'll probably do it again. Typically, I'll drive there, but my wife is down there with the car already. And that was that. So, Friday. Now, you're going to be surprised. surprised by a couple of things I say. The president put out that by Monday at 7.30 p.m.
Starting point is 00:03:11 That if they don't open the Straits of Hormuz without threats, we are going to knock out all their electricity plants and power plants. That would be screwing all the Iranians, Iranians. I don't even know how to pronounce it. And I'm thinking to myself, this is insane. There's no way he's doing this. No way. That would open up so much, I can't begin to tell you how bad that I'm thinking to myself, where the hell did he get this idea from? This is insane. They've already, Cuba, by the way, they have nothing coming towards them because of the blockade, and they have like blackouts all the time. Anyway, I digress. So I'm thinking to myself, and I said to my friends, when is he going to back away from
Starting point is 00:04:18 this? And when is he going to make something up? As you know, he is an habitual liar. And you don't need me to tell you. Even people that love him know he's an habitual liar. And, uh, you. And, uh, This morning, before seven, I guess futures were down 1%. Well, he puts out a tweet. This is the president of the United States. A tweet or a true social, whatever the hell you call it. And you know when I say to you, one of the things I taught my sons, first and foremost,
Starting point is 00:05:01 is to never lie. Because if you lie and you get the reputation of lying, nobody's ever going to believe you. So the president puts out, I am pleased to report that the United States of America and the country of Iran have had over the last two days very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East based on the tenor and tone of these in depth detailed and constructive conversations, which, and he spelled which WITCH, will continue throughout the week. I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five-day period. subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions. So let me be clear. That's a lie.
Starting point is 00:05:49 He lied. The President of the United States lied about war. And he admitted it later in the day. And even some of his sycophants on TV, they didn't back away from it. He made it up. There was no. discussions
Starting point is 00:06:13 and here's the other part you know when I said to you if you get the reputation of all of social media on the left and right are laughing at him they know he was full of crap there are people out there that are maga saying I believe Iran before him
Starting point is 00:06:34 this is how bad he has made it for himself that's how bad he has made it for himself nobody trusts a word out of his mouth now. By the way, I'm going to surprise you. Just wait. Just wait. He made it up. Iran came out and said bull crap. And what happened with the president, you know, the other part of lying is you always have to lie again to cover the lie and then you're going to forget some of the lies. So we mentioned people that they had discussions with. And those people came out and said, we never had any discussions
Starting point is 00:07:11 and then he changed his mind and said oh it was this other person oh it's this other person oh this other person oh this other person by the end of the day the president forgot what he lied about and said yeah I'm hoping to have discussions
Starting point is 00:07:27 with them I think he forgot about his tweet in the morning do you believe this it's unreal but you know what they say Leopards don't change their spots. Now let me surprise you.
Starting point is 00:07:52 I'm thrilled he lied. I'm thrilled he made this whole thing up. Why? Because this lie will move the needle. The lie will at least move the needle. And maybe just maybe we can get the hell out of this because let me tell you the other part of the equation. Trump and his administration completely screwed up and completely miscalculated. And I think that goes back to being egomaniacal and thinking you can never do anything wrong.
Starting point is 00:08:31 That goes back to last year's liberation. They are going to put out tariffs 150% on sneakers from Vietnam. Let's put everybody out of business. He thought anything he can do. And of course, they had to roll that back quickly. I'm thrilled he lied. Why? At least it's out there now.
Starting point is 00:08:54 And all know he wants out. And do you know why he wants out? It's pretty simple. Number one, he's getting murdered in the polls. Murdered. Destroyed. The Republican Party. Destroyed.
Starting point is 00:09:20 Absolutely. destroyed. And I can go on and on other things. The Republicans are already done in midterms. The Democrats can take a crap in the street and still beat the Republicans in the midterm. And part of all that is oil prices. And of course, oil prices came down 10 bucks today on the lie. And you know what? Let them lie again. if oil prices will keep going down. Because I cannot imagine what the average Joe is going through right now. The lift drivers, the Uber drivers, the deliveries from DoorDash and others,
Starting point is 00:10:18 the cost of their doing business way up. Forget the big business for a second. I don't like liars. They piss me off. I don't like that he lies. pisses me off. But I got to tell you, if we can get out of this because of it, cool. Up next, we got more on this, and then the markets.

Starting point is 00:12:05 It's time to switch on the integrator units and get the brain cells working. You're listening to. Hey, this promises to be fun. Investors Edge. The last bastion of quality products. Programming. With Gary Coltbaum. It doesn't get better than this.
Starting point is 00:12:21 So, let's discuss a couple of things on why he lied. First, the Pentagon requested $200 billion in funding. The war course was already $12 billion in six days, $16 billion in 12 days. And now, the money that's supposed to be needed to fund weeks of this, they may not. have. Next, there's no rate cuts. Any thought of rate cuts by the Fed is gone. You think if the Fed's going to cut rates into a inflationary environment? Hell no. Even with Powell not running the joint and one of Trump's puppets in there, the others aren't going to vote for it. Third, our allies gave them the middle finger. Twenty-two countries signed.
Starting point is 00:13:41 signed up to coordinate on the Straits of Hormuz. None committed any warships. Trump called NATO cowards. Fourth, Taiwan Semiconductor. They import 97% of its energy. Its liquid natural gas reserves cover only 11 days. Cutter supplies a third of the global helium, which Taiwan semiconductor needs for chip fabrication. The helium is bottled behind a closed straight.
Starting point is 00:14:26 Every Nvidia GPU, every Apple chip, every AI cluster depends on a fab. And guess what? Guess what? Fifth, the IEA chief told Australia this morning that 40 energy assets across nine countries is fairly damaged. Global oil supply has fallen below 11 million barrels per day. It's worse than the 1970s shock And no country would be immune And the last one of course as I stated
Starting point is 00:15:08 The midterms Gas prices are up a dollar a gallon 66% of Americans Are calling this a war of choice And blame the president 60% disapprove 57% said it's going badly Six very important
Starting point is 00:15:39 problems one social media post made up out of thin air good that's a story but there's something else I have to bring up that really pisses me off but it's an act of utter stupidity
Starting point is 00:16:05 you see all the corruption and all the self-dealing by the people in this administration well when you have the committees in the House and Senate, you never have to worry. When you have the Department of Justice, you don't have to worry.
Starting point is 00:16:26 They'll just not say a word about your sleaze. Somebody, an hour before, the announcement from the president, bought a crapload of futures on the S&P and sold short a crapload of oil and made millions of dollars. There will be no investigation by the Trump administration. which is the Department of Justice. There's one in the same. Whoever did that, they are up,
Starting point is 00:16:59 you know what's Creek without a paddle, when the Democrats get the House and Senate, people are going to get subpoenaed up the wazoo. Idiots, they're going to go to jail. I don't know who it was, but it was a classic inside a trading move to the tune of millions. This is not the first time it's happened.
Starting point is 00:17:26 It has happened quite a few times under the Trump administration. This one was about as over the top as over the top can be. And it just, people are stupid. 6.50 a.m., 1.5 billion dollars in notional value worth of the S&P futures contracts were bought. 14 minutes later, the president, sent his social media. The position gained 60 million in minutes. Unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:18:10 How stupid people are. Unbelievable. Others are saying $500 million was made. Whatever. Millions were made. By the way, as I said, the president admitted he lied. He was out saying he hopes to meet with Iran soon and settle this and plans to give them a call.
Starting point is 00:18:41 He forgot about his social media tweet. It's unreal. So, what happens? What do you think would happen? It's what I or anybody else told you would happen. Oil prices drop $10. Simple as that. The media around the world are accusing Trump of just trying to manipulate markets.
Starting point is 00:19:19 No, I think he's just trying to try to. to bail out of things and I think others are taking advantage of it. Let's hope he's not involved with it. Oil prices drop 10. What also happened? Well, the Dow today at 1110 a.m. was 46-712 up 1135 points on that news. The NASDAQ at that time was up, yeah, about the same time, 22-189. That would be 243, 542 points up on the NASDAQ early. But we only finished up 631, which is still good. but distributed.
Starting point is 00:20:18 And what do we mean by that? Well, you're up to 46-712, and you finish at 46-208. So the 1135 has an opportunity to be 1135 but is only 631. Up next. The finish are thoughts
Starting point is 00:20:41 and all that. This is the one only investors' edge. America is talking. Investors Edge. He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on its feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. With Gary Colbomb.
Starting point is 00:21:23 It comes highly recommended. You're going to feel better if you talk to him. So, the NASDAQ goes from 540 to 299, but it's still $299. I'm not going to argue that. The semiconductor index hit 7958 at a rate. around those highs. Finished it's 7773. Finished up 102 points, but it was up 287 at one time, am I right? 7958 is another 185?
Starting point is 00:22:13 Yeah, 287, so they distributed the all-important semiconductors also. Now, do I find anything sticking out? Do I find? find any sore thumbs in those numbers while I do. Number one, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, the 50-day moving average, and mind you, it has been living under the 50-day moving average for the most part the last two and a half weeks. The 50-day moving average is 7961. What I say it hit this morning, 7958. So the semiconductor index could not get above the 50-day moving average today on a very strong day where it had the capability of doing it. Maybe tomorrow. But as of today, no. The Dow hit today, 46-712.
Starting point is 00:23:31 closed at 46208, the 200-day moving average is 46-581. So it got a little bit above, finished decently below. The longer-term, bearish 200-day moving average, it needs to get back above. The S&P 500, same thing. Got a little bit above the 200 moving average today? fell and finished below it. We'll make our point in a second. The NASDAQ, the 200 day didn't hit it.
Starting point is 00:24:12 It's 22261, got the 22189, but finished a few hundred points below, and the NASDAQ 100 finished below it also by about 200 points. got a little bit above it. Now, what's important? Listen carefully. This is vital.
Starting point is 00:24:39 Nothing good can happen. Nothing good could happen if price is below the 200-day moving average. You got that? If price of the Dow, S&P, NASDAQ, and NASDAQ 100 stays below, and it's just below by a couple hundred here and there. Nothing good can possibly happen. If you get back above the 200 day, it doesn't mean good's going to happen. You still would be in between the all-important 50 and 200,
Starting point is 00:25:20 but at least you'd get back into some sort of range. the next part of this 200-day moving average, and we're talking physicality, the markets here, not somebody's opinion, only bad happens below the 200-day moving average. With a proviso, you can go below the 200-day moving average and just hover around.
Starting point is 00:25:56 Fine and dandy. You're not doing any favors for anybody, you're not making anybody any money. You're certainly not in an uptrend. you're still in a bearish type pattern, but you're not hurting anybody anymore. It's sitting. The normality of being below the 200-day moving average is you're heading lower. Notwithstanding a president's lies.
Starting point is 00:26:34 So it is imperative. Those four big indices, at least get back above. At least get back above. That's all I'm saying. At least get back above. Because nothing good happens below the 200-day moving average. That is the physicality of the market. And there is no argument of it.
Starting point is 00:27:17 the big four indices are below the transports are not but they've been hit pretty damn hard and they didn't finish well either today they were up 236 points they were up 600 at one time they hit 18451 15 and 56 66 it was up 602 points it was up 602 points finished up 236. The transports got distributed also. The small and midcaps did not break the 200 day. In fact, bounced off of it today. But I don't give that any great shakes
Starting point is 00:28:19 because they have been underperforming the Biggs for a long time, with a couple of times better. So, Mui Importante. that these big indices get back above. We're not predicting whether they are or not. We're letting you know today, on a big lie day, they got distributed from the highs. Maybe tomorrow is a better day.
Starting point is 00:28:49 Good day for advanced declines. The new yearly high list, there are hardly any. The amount of stocks in shape. I got news for you. I scan 1,500 names. not many at all not many but we'll take what we can get and tomorrow's another day my expectations the president's gonna do save face that's all take the win get the hell out get the straights of Hormuz open and that's it don't worry about what people say just move on
Starting point is 00:29:45 It was not exciting that the Iranian heads were just making fun of him all day. They were calling him taco. Everybody was. And I take no joy in saying that our President of the United States is now, probably already was before, but doubles up and triples up, is that lesson we taught our children. That when you get the reputation, ain't nobody going to believe you. That was today. And I have a good feel for it.
Starting point is 00:30:34 Tomorrow's another day. We'll see what comes of it. I can't wait to see it was doing those insider traits today. Somebody going to jail. They're so stupid. Greed's going to put in jail. Oh, wait. Trump's going to be able to pardon for another three years.
Starting point is 00:30:58 You know, he pardons everybody that cheats. Yay. Hey, up next. I didn't say it. Somebody else said this today. Three words. I screwed up. We'll do that in a little bit.
Starting point is 00:31:23 But somebody said that with a tragic event at LaGuardia. You see that crash? I want to talk about that a little and finish up with the markets. I'm Gary. This is the one only Investor's Edge. You're listening to. What are we waiting for? Well, what are you waiting for?
Starting point is 00:32:18 One, two, ready, go. Investors Edge. With Gary Culper. So, by the way, I may have a hundred names total that are in decent shape. Seriously. As I do my scans, I cannot begin to tell you how bad things look even with today. And to explain it, Goldman finished up 17 today, was up 30.
Starting point is 00:33:13 So I had a good day. It's down $150 from the high. You get bounces. You see what a downtrend or up trend is. Did the move change the playing field? or is it just and I was thinking today let's go back to last April
Starting point is 00:33:37 last April was more BS Liberation Day 10% drop in the market that Thursday and Friday the market was already week before that White House gets together over the weekend cursing each other out on Monday they were going to back away
Starting point is 00:33:54 and make up some lie why they're backing away but it got leaked so they said no not true and then they did it on Wednesday. You got a 2,000 point rally in what, 10 minutes? Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what it was. Because the president was just about as stupid as can be putting 150% tax on sneakers from Vietnam.
Starting point is 00:34:21 Stop it. Apparel. Yeah, sure. Let's put everybody out of business. Let's put the whole, every economy around the world into the depression, not just recession. And the markets were reflecting it. So back then, you rallied up, and then there was like a three-day period where they started it on China. So you had that 2000-point thing.
Starting point is 00:34:46 You backed off for three days. And then we had a follow-through day. And we just drifted higher for a week or two, sat around for about to mid-June. then we rallied again, sat around from July to August, and then we just kept drifting higher and higher until the recent top in February. Right? Yeah, right. The S&P hit 6920 in October, got his high at 7,002.
Starting point is 00:35:28 We're 6581 at the close today, and that'll put you at last September. timber. We'll see. I have no idea how this plays out. I just know the patterns still suck. I have a limited number of good stocks in shape. And the lot got distributed today. I see some stocks that. GEV broke out above 895 today, hit 920 closed at 882. $38. It was up 70, finished up 31. distribution. That's what we mean. One of the stocks I'm watching closely, VRT, was up 15 bucks today, closed up 12 cents. That's what we mean. Again, we'll see tomorrow. Which takes me to, I screwed up, not me. That was somebody in the control tower at LaGuardia. That sent, I guess,
Starting point is 00:36:40 It was a fire truck across the runway where an air Canada hit it. The two pilots died. I believe a stewardess was in her seat, hooked with the seat belts, and got ejected from the plane. But I hear she's living. And I don't hear any more deaths, but the two pilots died. Yet the guy in the control tower, you can hear some. saying I screwed up. And I was just thinking to myself. And I always say this to my wife all the time that I'm always amazed how much traffic there is in all the airports on the fields.
Starting point is 00:37:30 And at night, planes coming in, going out, crossing in front of each other, the timing that they've had to have. Think of the millions and millions and millions of flights around the world. And this never happens, ever. But this time it did. It just tells you what a fantastic job that is getting done and how serious they are about their job. Think about that. Have you ever notice what goes on when you get on a plane, when you're leaving, when you're landing? How much movement there is? A ton. Whether it's the baggage handlers, the guys with the food, the guys with the jetways, all that movement.
Starting point is 00:38:25 I'm just amazed. I'm always amazed. Got to think about that. You know, sometimes we forget about how things work and how important certain people are. and this guy who said I screwed up his life has changed forever he's got to deal with this for the rest of his life and of course two deaths of the pilots and just so you know the video is out
Starting point is 00:38:57 a security video of exactly it happening the airplane landed and was slowing down but still going at speed just ran right into that sucker and it finished nose up without the nose remember how good we got it ladies and gentlemen think about it all the whining complaining I do you do think about how good we got it anyway I just wanted to say that but I also got to say as a reminder to you and how bad our government is besides the 39 now trillion of debt 1.2 trillion to interest social security running out above
Starting point is 00:39:44 which is the greatest Ponzi scheme ever anyhow. Do you see what's happening at the airports? And one side blames the other. And we're the freaking victims. Somehow we've got to get an independent party. All right. You all have a great evening. Drive carefully when you get home.
Starting point is 00:40:10 Do like we do quite simple. Make sure you hug your family and hug your children. They will feel better. You'll feel better. I promise they will be well. Have a great one, everybody. Good night. This has been Investors' Edge with Gary Cult Bomb on BizTalk.
