Starting point is 00:00:33 Investor's Edge with Gary Coltbaum. Straight talk about you and your money. Now from the BizTalk Studios, here is Gary Cultbaum. And welcome once again to Investors Edge. I'm Gary Coltbaum, your host. A thanks for being with us today. Glad you're here, ladies and gentlemen, happy that you are listening. It's Tuesday, March 19th, and the winds are whipping in the world that I live in.
Starting point is 00:00:59 The markets. Wild swings another day. We'll get into that in a minute. But first, if you do not get this radio show in your city, we'll post it at garyk.com. We'll also post it on a Twitter feed, which is now X. And if you don't follow us on X, you should go put our name in, and you can do that.
Starting point is 00:01:18 You can email me, just be nice. And, of course, this is a show about everything that affects you. We cover it all. Business, markets, politics. we never used to do politics and then we realize what they were trying to do. And boy, have they done a good job of it? When we need to, we cover it. And unfortunately, more and more, we must.
Starting point is 00:01:44 Maybe for another day. Got a few things to cover. First off, number one. Tomorrow, at 11.30 a.m. to noon, I was invited by the Money Show to do a virtual 30 minutes. So I will be doing 30 minutes on what is emerging, what is submerging. In other words, I think we're going to spend the half hour on the top in the semis, March 8th, and what does that mean? And the emergence of oils, which we've been walking you through over the last, I don't know, three weeks, what does that mean? And whatever else I can think of at the time. You can find
Starting point is 00:02:26 that link on my Twitter feed, go to X, it's pin there. Or if you go to GaryK.com, it's there also. So check that out. Next, got a lot of great responses to the show yesterday on Gilmorealis. A bunch of emails, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. But I may have screwed up. and I want to rectify that screw up. You see, Gil had made an offer, and I didn't have time to listen back, and I was dealing with the 92 and the 90-year-old parents today. Gil offered nine of his books for free,
Starting point is 00:03:13 e-book downloads, but he said $68 for the first month, and that gets everything. I may have seen, said for free after he was off the air. I was told Gil listened back and said he didn't hear anything, somebody, whatever. Here's the deal. Go check it out.
Starting point is 00:03:40 Nine books from a master e-book. If you don't want to do it, don't do it. I do it. We'll let you decide. There was one person all huffy and puffy. over it and I'm like, dudes, ease up. What can I tell you? Anyway, that's that. And we promised to have him on again, the markets. We've been talking about wild swings, reversals, crazy action. We talked about potential for being 99 versus now.
Starting point is 00:04:27 I care about now. And let me just give you an idea of today. A micro strategy, which is an amped up Bitcoin. It's not Bitcoin, but it's like a company that all they do is buy Bitcoin. The stock hit 1815 bucks two days ago. It closed yesterday at 15. This morning it was at 1,230. It closed at 1,417. What? Yeah. So they smacked the hell out of in the morning, and it was still down $85 today. Amazing. Envidia. And let me stop right there and say, a long while ago, I still remember when I kind of sort of, kind of sorter, all I ever had, how to do was watch Apple, and the NASDAQ would follow. Seriously, the NASDAQ would follow.
Starting point is 00:05:37 That's all I had to do. It seems like it's Nvidia now. Because today, today, NVIDIA in the first few minutes of the day was down 35 bucks approximately, give or take. That is on top of it was up big yesterday and reversed to be almost down. And this is during their conference posing the question what the hell is going on.
Starting point is 00:06:21 Well, we had stated, well, that March 8th, huge exhausted reversal holding some sway well it closed and this is today at 894 it went up 44 bucks from the first hour today what do you think the NASDAQ did and what do you think the semis did the NASDAQ today at one time hit 15951 It was down, let's call it 150 bucks, points, finished up 63. The semiconductor index, the Philadelphia, which hit a high of 5217, hit a low today of 4620, still finished down 45 points today, but rallied 90 off the lows. and Vidi are driving the bus
Starting point is 00:07:32 and things followed. The broad market was always in shape today. We've had really no complaints about the broader market. We have been telling you oils, and they had another good day-to-day on oil prices, some of the big financials, though not the smaller ones, and other sundry stuff. We've also told you that the S&P hasn't budged.
Starting point is 00:08:00 even with this nasty reversal in the semis and NASDAQ on March 8th S&P hasn't budged along the 21-day moving average which is amazing because it's usually the 50-day moving average which is usually lower well I take it back
Starting point is 00:08:17 always lower in bullish markets 21 days the stronger one because you're only including 21 days the Dow has hardly budged that finishes along the 21 days and guess what happened today The NASDAQ, which was teasing, breaking it today, finished above it, and the NASDAQ 100, the same, finished above it. By a little bit. Rangebound, NASDAQ 100 is now going on 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 into the 6 week now of rangebound.
Starting point is 00:09:00 The NASDAQ is about the same and a teeny bit stronger than the NASDAQ 100. it. The S&P, more of an ascending range bound and really has only been settling down for the last three weeks. The Dow, we'll call it range bound for a few weeks. So nothing with the big stuff, the trouble's been the Russell, which was up today, held some support. Still a week overall. but we're just letting you know a very nice reversal to the upside today I wouldn't call it the opposite of March 8th
Starting point is 00:09:47 March 8th reversal down was a lot stronger than today's reversal up I can promise you that and volume was really not much today in fact looks like much lower on the S&P
Starting point is 00:10:06 but price for So just letting you know, very nice reversal from ugly open. Facebook was down 13, finished only down a buck 60. I can list more. I can list less. Just overall, nice little hold today. Interest rates came down a little bit today.
Starting point is 00:10:35 They were teasing, breaking out, still can do that. The Fed is tomorrow. Now, we always wonder when this happens whether the Fed leaked anything today. Wait, Gary, the Fed doesn't leak anything. Yeah, they do. Look, they're all crooked. They're all corrupt. I'd say it to their face.
Starting point is 00:10:57 We don't care. Nothing we can do about it. We'll see what happens with Fed tomorrow. We freely tell you we have no clue how the market reacts. Our prediction, because they've telegraphed, is, They do nothing. Up next. But what else?
Starting point is 00:11:18 I'm Gary. This is the one only Investor's Edge. Hi, I'm Gary Kalbaum, hosted a nationally syndicated radio show Investors Edge. We're not just handsome radio people. Starting point is 00:12:38 host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. In this episode, we are diving into gut health with CVS pharmacist, Victoria Motola, who explains why so many of us live with stomach issues we should not accept as normal.
Starting point is 00:13:00 A lot of what I see is just like chronic bloating, chronic stomach aches. Like I get a stomachache every time that I eat. And it just becomes like a lifestyle where, oh, yeah, you know, I just have a stomachache every day. Or I'm constantly feeling like gassy. And all of those things are not something that generally, if you have a healthy gut, you should be living with. So that's when we deep dive. We deep dive into your medication. We deep dive into your OTC medication.
Starting point is 00:13:25 And then at that point, we can probably identify something that we can change. Hear the full conversation, plus some fascinating facts about how gut health affects so much more than just your stomach on Beyond the Script, a podcast from CVS Pharmacy and IHeartRadio. Starting point is 00:14:40 Hey, this promises to be fun. Investors Edge. The last bastion of quality programming. With Gary Coltbaum. It doesn't get better than this. So the Fed is tomorrow. The chalk is that they do nothing, but they state something to the effect of this year we're going to so and so. I don't, they'll be definitive, but maybe, you know, they could say something to the effect
Starting point is 00:15:14 of. The goal is maybe one or two or three rate cuts. Maybe they'll say kind of sort of when. I think they'll be, I don't think they'd be so specific on that. I have no idea how the market takes it, but I just want you to remember, they don't matter. Unless they are printing money, I don't believe they matter. watch the 10-year yield. If it breaks above 4.354% markedly and heads towards 5, that is going to be potential headwind city. Why? Cost of capital.
Starting point is 00:15:54 You add that to oil prices moving higher now, which, by the way, it's not the Putin price hike. Gas prices at the pump should go higher. You should be seeing it now and more in the next 10 days if this continues. That's an interesting one-two punch that has to be watched. Has to be watched. But I must tell you, as I do my scans, some building construction stocks pretty darn good. There's a few, well, the hotels have been pretty darn good. There's a few retailers not all pretty darn good.
Starting point is 00:16:45 Some of these, you ever hear of the advantage drainage system? Well, I haven't. It doesn't trade a lot of volume. All I can tell you on earnings, it busted out a range in February and has now sat tight for six weeks. Today looks like it wants to move higher. Never heard of them. But it's this, it's untrue. building and construction sector.
Starting point is 00:17:13 That area has a few stocks working. Home builders split. Three or four good, a bunch not so good. But just decent action and just, how about Eaton Corp? Electrical power equipment. Not sexy, but Emerson.com. Engineering services. The waste management companies.
Starting point is 00:17:42 insurance acting pretty darn good because the prices they're getting for insurance right now are obscene I guess good on them so just let you know got no problem with the broad market remember we told you when the market turned and we finally had that gap to the upside on that inflation number where interest rates gap down that's when we bought the SPY that's my dog We were able to buy the SPY at $4.50. It's 516. And there hasn't been a day that I've even had to really think about selling. I think there was one day around 466 that I was looking and saying,
Starting point is 00:18:32 hmm, is that it? And then the next day, it busted to the upside. And I haven't had to think about it since. that is so not normal. So we will be watching that closely, but guess what? Held again today. Teasing Friday. But held again.
Starting point is 00:18:57 We can only hope we find a few things like that going forward. Now, back on NVIDIA, AMD was still down 10 today. Why? NVIDIA announces they may get into their bed. and Vida down. There's still weakness in some names. Broadcom, which by the way, hit 1204 and closed at 1238.
Starting point is 00:19:24 So even that reversed, but down from 1438 and bad reaction to their last number. Super Micro, down 90, finished down 89. It is down another 7 in the aftermarket. Was worse. They announced a secondary.
Starting point is 00:19:41 I don't know why. Why market didn't like that, especially with these areas under pressure. Our best edge is when things quiet down and things calm down. Very tough right here. Tough is all heck. Eventually things will calm down. Where and when we do not know. we just know
Starting point is 00:20:12 nice defensive action in invidia today and we think that gave impetus to other things and thus good hold on the NASDAQ
Starting point is 00:20:27 NASDAQ 100 but I'll state for the record more new yearly lows than new yearly highs again on the NASDAQ today which remains what I consider to be on the stunning side. It just tells you how very narrow the scope is.
Starting point is 00:20:52 And I must tell you, I have some scheduling tonight to do, some things to do. I already did our webcast for the evening tonight, and I went through the last two months. I've got a hundred stocks that broke down in technology arena. but they're not gargantuan except for an adobe which drops 78 bucks on earnings Tesla's been drifting down all along Apple's been drifting down all along out of that hundred there was nothing gargantuan if we start to see gargantuan then we're going to be talking because that's going to be the indices it just has not happen we got emailed today from people do you think we can eventually take
Starting point is 00:21:38 out the highs of that big exhaustion on the semis. I believe anything's possible in the markets. But I also know how normally, typically things play out. And what that would mean, some time to repair. But we'll see. We'll be on it. We'll try and figure it out. We'd like to say we've got a big edge here, but man, oh man, I got to tell you, we did a little selling in the morning, and they reversed what we sold. Fortunately, we made a crap load on it. Don't need to mention what it was, and we still held a bunch also. But welcome to the world. Crazy. Wow. Back on NVIDIA. I started really reading up on the things that they're thinking about. or doing, let me just state for the record, this is not a put-down. They are really talking a big game.
Starting point is 00:22:50 They are talking an unbelievable game. I just want you to keep that in mind. We are not saying they are not going to come through. We just want to let you know we'll use one little line. They have set the bar very high. Up next, we'll think of something. I got out what I wanted, but I got some other things. I'm Gary. This is the one only investor's edge. Starting point is 00:25:31 You're listening to. America is talking. Investors Edge. He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on his feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. With Gary Colbomb. It comes highly recommended.
Starting point is 00:25:48 You're going to feel better if you talk to him. I did forget to mention. There's been a lot of gaps to the upside on earnings as a recent, and a ton of them have done nothing. A decent amount of them have completely filled the gaps. We'll continue to watch. The filling of the gaps coincided, we think, with the weakness in the tech and the NASDAQ. We'll see if that resolves itself better. We haven't seen it as of yet. Stocks that gaped down and stay down, they're off. Nothing to think about. Nothing to care about.
Starting point is 00:26:35 We move on. And all we try to do every day is move things up, push things down. Strength up, weakness down. Breakdowns away. Breakdowns up. We also had recently failed breakdowns. We had a few. Little 1% losses because we're specific where we buy.
Starting point is 00:27:01 And you've got to know when you have less tolerance than, normal. So just give you an idea of the market and I can safely tell you I don't have a freaking clue what happens tomorrow because at 10 o'clock today I did not have a freaking clue what would happen by the end of the day. How do I know that? Because I did a little selling in the morning. A duh. And I must tell you, I never ever am upset when I stop out of a stock with a small loss. I only get upset when I sell something and it goes up. Why? Because we usually own leaders and they can get going quickly. And then I got to make decisions about, okay, do I get back on board? We know our risk tolerance when we buy. So we're never upset. We'd rather
Starting point is 00:28:06 something work. Hope you understand that. So all in all, a big wow. We keep getting asked about crypto every day. Hey, if you like 15 to 20% moves and they happen overnight while you're sleeping, have at it. I told my peeps yesterday, I really wanted a short micro strategy yesterday. I really wanted to, and I didn't. And that was because I don't want to go to sleep and wake up and it's up 200 bucks. and by the way, there have been days. It has been up 200 bucks.
Starting point is 00:28:51 It closed at 1502. It opened at 1290. I would have made some good cheese, but I can't be pissed. Because it has absolutely been the other way, and the one thing we do not like, we abhor is guessing. It is guessing.
Starting point is 00:29:25 That be the thought process. I will tell you that the Bitcoin, I think, closed it 66,000 today, something like that. It was 64. The high was 73, but they're still excited. Everything's fine. I saw something. I don't might mention this name. I don't know who they are.
Starting point is 00:29:48 Standard Charter. I don't know who they are. Came out with $150,000 for Bitcoin. Interesting that a year ago they didn't come out with 150,000, but it took it going from 20,000 to 60,000. Now it's going to 150,000. As we always tell you, don't listen to me. Don't listen to anyone else. Pay attention to price action and never lose big. I withhold my words on what I think of somebody coming out with something like that. Nothing personal with talking just business. On a personal note, my parents are 92 and 90,
Starting point is 00:30:58 and I told them I would pay a lot of money to have a living. And by the way, it's a hell of a lot of money. somebody who was watching somebody already in the building in New Jersey, that person died at the age of 95. They won't let me and they don't want. My brother's up there fortunately and takes care of a lot of things. But man, oh man, today was an emotional day. I don't mind telling you. And those that have elderly parents, I think I have an idea what I'm going.
Starting point is 00:31:48 and through. Their doctor called, because my father called the doctor four times in the last three days, the doctor was out of, and the doctor's up there, was in Seattle, visiting the granddaughter, and my father calls in and says, I got a black eye, I fell, and I'm bleeding, and I need help, and the doctor's something, just get the ambulance and go to the emergency room. And then I call my brother, what the hell's going on here? Why does anybody call me? He doesn't have a black eye. He did fall, but he's okay. And I speak to my father and he goes, well, I got, my head is swell. And I'm like, just go to the emergency room and I'll be up there.
Starting point is 00:32:33 And he's lucid as all hell. He's not, you know, he's on the ball. But 92. And today was a tough day. And I'm here in Florida. They're up in New Jersey. It's just a flight away. But it is a flight away.
Starting point is 00:32:58 he's okay for 92 I'll take it back he's great for 92 I have met 80 year olds that are one-tenth of him but I just wanted to let you know and I don't really talk that much
Starting point is 00:33:15 in depth on something like this I've told you how old they are but today was an emotional day I'm up here watching my screens calling back and forth speaking to my brother, trying to think about forcing having a living, forcing it on them, but I think they'd kick her out.
Starting point is 00:33:39 It's a tough day. We'll be good, we'll be fine. They'll be good, they'll be fine. He'll still be whining and complaining about the Knicks, even though the Knicks are having a good season, about how the giants have gone downhill. He'll complain about Trump. He once told me Reagan was the greatest president of all time now. Now he says he never said it.
Starting point is 00:34:13 And I used to go back and forth with him, but I stopped about three or four years ago. No more. I never get in arguments ever. I actually will agree with them just to agree with them on the political front. Just want to keep it quiet, keep it cool, keep it relaxed. And I think a lot of you know what the story is and what going through. I wasn't going up this weekend. I'm going up this weekend, which means I'm going up the next three weeks every six days.
Starting point is 00:34:54 And if need be in between, they earned whatever I have to do. And God bless my brother, I got to tell you, he's running around for them like, wow, 6 a.m., midnight, doing whatever has to be done. give him all the credit in the world. If he wasn't around, I'm probably not doing this. I'm probably not doing my business. Or I'm setting up office in their dining room, which I could do because, as you know, I take four screens with me wherever I go when I travel. As they say, whatever's necessary, right?
Starting point is 00:35:53 for those you care about. That was most of my day today. And you know, we are the product of our thinking. I had a lot of thoughts. Hey, up next, let's see if we can find some of the things we can complain about. I'm Gary. This is the one only investor's edge. Hi, I'm Dr. Jay Goodman, host of Beyond the Script,

Starting point is 00:39:11 Usually keep it very even. Hey, in the news, think about not being... I just got to read this to you. A 33-year-old vagrant with a lengthy rap sheet It has been the bane of a Brooklyn neighborhood for nearly a decade, with complaints of shoplifting, slugging women, and threatening local merchants at will. But he remains free.
Starting point is 00:39:39 He's a registered sex offender and has been a menace in the Greenpoint area that one shop owner keeps a metal rod handy so he can chase him away when he shows up at the door. Many times he's punched women in the face inside the store, and outside on the sidewalk. He's very dangerous. He's stolen from my store many times. He's been arrested by cops even in the last two years over a dozen times
Starting point is 00:40:13 and sent to court for arraignment every time. In all, he's been busted 39 times since 2011, ranging from assault to robbery to criminal mischief, and a level three sex offender, and he was convicted. Listen to this. Of molesting a 19-year-old woman in 2021. But his arrests have typically only risen to the level of misdemeanors and unfit for trial because he's deaf. He gets out with no bail every time.
Starting point is 00:41:09 This is New York City. World? What the hell is going on? Will it take one of these. city's mayors or judges or the citizens. Now, move the citizens to the side. One of the easy judges or the mayor, whoever runs the joint, for their own family, God forbid, be murdered by this man, which pretty much we can almost guarantee that's going
Starting point is 00:41:42 to happen, but is it going to take one of these people's own family to be murdered. murdered to finally incarcerate and stop making excuses. That's New York City. Easy bail. Let's not worry. We know about this in other cities also. We've picked on other cities, especially the, well, New York City is blue. It's beyond me, ladies and gentlemen. as I tell you when I go to New York City very often now for my parents on the subway well first off they put a ton more cops there and I'll stand right next them I don't care but if they're not there I'm up against the wall I'm not near the tracks
Starting point is 00:42:38 and I'm looking left and right at all times on the on the train I'm looking left and right at all times why because I keep seeing videos and people don't get arrested it shouldn't have to be and I want you to notice, I think really one of the reasons Biden's poll numbers are lower than root canal and jockich. Does he ever even talk about crime? Ever? They come out with statistics on crime. Do you know how much I care about government statistics these days?
Starting point is 00:43:16 The ones that have changed the formula on inflation to make it look lower over the last 20 years and the formula on GDP, to make it look higher in the last 20 years? What Gil said yesterday about the employment figures, three to one? You think I trust their crime statistics? Anyway, Japan, in case you don't know, Japan's been strong. And they decided to finally raise rates. I read somebody acting like, oh, look, they're raising rates. They raised rates to 0%.
Starting point is 00:43:47 Oh, yeah, they're really tightening policy there. Next on Japan, they've entered stagflation. The numbers coming out of Japan are stagflation, yet the market there is near all-time highs after hitting all-time highs before pulling back. What gives? Well, Japan owns, I think, it's 60, 70% of their stocks and their ETFs. Just letting you know, there's too much of government and not just here. but elsewhere. And I do not know how it finishes up.
Starting point is 00:44:34 I got blasted by a lefty jackass when I went on TV talking about Bernie Sanders trying to get us to go from 40 hours to 32 hours but get paid the same. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. These idiots who would dare do that and try to cite
Starting point is 00:44:56 you know what they cited by the way oh a study 90% of the people that were given 32 hours and paid the same agreed with it well j i'm just letting you know speak to every great success story individual success story that ever came they don't count hours they work and they succeed and they compete and i got news for Bernie Sanders, this schmuck. Put up somebody working 32 hours versus somebody who not only wants to work 40 but 50 to get the job done and do it better, stronger, quicker than everybody else. And who do you think is getting promoted? The 32-hour person that thanked you for working less or the guy that's working more, and I got news for you. Most people do want upward mobility. most people do want success.
Starting point is 00:46:03 Sanders is a Marxist nut job that has no clue, has never been in business, yet wants to mandate business. It's sickening. That all said, you all have a great evening drive carefully. When you get home, do like I do. First off, Serenity now.
