Their faculty was really involved with their students and care about your personal journey. The dedication to my personal development from my professors, that's been extremely valuable to me. Earn your degree from the nation's most innovative university. Online. That's a degree better.

Straight talk about you and your money. Now from the BizTalk Studios, here is Gary Cultbaum. And welcome once again to Investors Edge. I'm Gary Coltbaum, your host. A thanks for being with us today.
Starting point is 00:00:48 Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen. Happy that you are listening. It is January 29, 2004. Hope you had a good weekend. This is almost the cold and flu edition of Investors Edge, but I'm actually feeling better because I was much worse. I went to the Royal Rumble Saturday in St. Petersburg with a sore throat, non-COVID, but sore throat and aches and everything, but I got through it, got to sleep at 2 a.m.
Starting point is 00:01:15 Had a great time. Again, hope you had a great weekend. Hey, in case you don't know, this is serious talk with a little comedy injected, but we really don't have a lot of comedy these days for obvious reasons on you and everything that affects you. the economy, jobs, unemployment, taxes, deficit spending, scam, shams, corruption, the markets. You name it, we shall cover it. With no bias agenda or ulterior motive, we can't stand any of them.
Starting point is 00:01:41 We are not R, we are not D. Call me an I, which will be fine and dandy. We just have lost all hope for them on what they're doing to us. The great news is, we're great, they suck. Most of us get up every day just to do well for our, ourselves and our families grow in the economy. We have fabulous medical breakthroughs, technological advancements on a daily basis. Everybody trying to do well, and they keep putting us into Moorhawk.
Starting point is 00:02:17 But that'll be for another day. We have lots more to talk about today. The first thing I do want to mention is three young men from Georgia were killed in Jordan. an attack from Iranian proxies. And not the greatest day to throw blame. But I stand fast. I stand fast on what I told you when Afghanistan happened. And that is, this is going to invite a lot of bad people to do bad things.
Starting point is 00:02:59 because we're seen as being kicking back on a couch. We'll see what happens. Russia and Ukraine, China's threatening Taiwan, and they're coming after us, the United States of America. I don't run our military. I'm not the president.
Starting point is 00:03:25 All I know is Americans were kidnapped and killed in Israel. three American soldiers are now dead the Iranian mullers if I was president would be feeling some pain very quickly you've got to send the message
Starting point is 00:03:46 to these bullies that we're the head honcho top dog big cheeses you mess with us we're going to mess with you and I don't think they think that's what's coming I am in hopes. I'm always in hopes that our leaders get it right and get things done.
Starting point is 00:04:13 All right. We start with that. May those soldiers families are prayers. All right, we're good at Segweng, so let's go do the football. Congratulations to Casey and San Fran. Detroit handed the game to San Fran. I think they got a great coach Detroit, but guess what? He thought he was too cool by going for fourth down instead of putting on more points. And they don't lose the game if he kicks field goals instead of going for fourth down. And they paid a price. Part of the football is momentum.
Starting point is 00:04:54 And once they didn't go for the field goes and they missed on fourth down, it gives a little umph to the other team and they got the umph. With Baltimore, I know they showed up for the game. but mistake after mistake after mistake, but I'm going to hand it to KC. Their secondary did a magnificent job. So KC San Fran and the NFL is so happy right now. I gather the ratings which are so big for the NFL are going to be even bigger because of Taylor Swift. Let me give you some numbers, ladies and gentlemen.
Starting point is 00:05:32 You ready? Cheapest ticket for the Super Bowl right now on StubHub. I'm not making this up. $7,500. Cheapest ticket. If you decide to sit on the lower bowl, 15-yard line, row 28, $16,241 bucks to see a football game.
Starting point is 00:05:59 If you decide to go behind the goalposts in the end zone, row 28 lower, $9,021. I will not be. going to the football game. Next, before we get into the markets, well, this is markets. In case you don't know, look up Evergrand. Chinese big realty company.
Starting point is 00:06:30 Go look it up. They are going out of business. As you know, we have been avoiders of Chinese stocks for quite a while. And they are. continue to get smoke. Some of the stronger China stocks today got hit. Hope you've been listening on China stocks because I hear a lot of analysts constantly say it's so much cheaper versus the United States.
Starting point is 00:07:01 You know, we got to say, wait till the turn comes. We'll let you know. If China stocks ever come into play, you will hear it from us. Simple as that. Next thing I have to mention. Do you know Gavin Newsom is a Marxist control freak running California that keeps being elected, even though so many areas of California being destroyed? He had an interview this week, I guess a Sunday show, I quote,
Starting point is 00:07:30 the best three-year record of any modern American presidency, period, full stop. So we now know that the Marxist control freak running California is a lying sack. They'll give you stats, but they don't tell you that. that most of the stats are coming back from COVID, which had nothing to do with anything but us opening up. Also, the big lie is, oh, they cut child poverty in half. Gargantuan lie. They gave extra tax credit, and they're saying that put people over the poverty line.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Yeah, that'll take kids out of poverty. And last but not least, the last 12 months, we have $2.7 trillion in debt. almost $7 trillion in spending. That's more spending than all the spending that was raised because of COVID. So what we have is on purpose of presidency trying to win an election by growing government in ways unimaginable. The year before COVID spending was $4.4 trillion for the government. It's going to be near $7 trillion this year.
Starting point is 00:08:43 On purpose. And the sickening part of it, the only way they got it through is Republicans you got to have the House in the Senate guess what the Republicans got it done they could have kicked them in the teeth yo Joe
Starting point is 00:09:03 4.4 it up of 7 trillion nope 2.7 trillion deficit nope so all are involved and let me tell you why the Republicans do that so when they're in power they can spend like crazy also remember that Republicans talk a good game when the Marxists are in power. But when they're in power, Trump spent like crazy.
Starting point is 00:09:37 And now he tells us, oh, but we'll lower the deficit if I'm president again. Now he's lying. He's not going to lower the deficit. He's not going to lower the spending. Why? Makes the GDP better. The royal scam is on. Just letting you know.
Starting point is 00:09:59 And for now, that's it. We head into the markets. I got to tell you, we walked in today, it was quiet. It was quiet. You had better technology until about 3 o'clock. And then the Dow went up 100 points in 35 seconds. And the NASDAQ lit up even more. My air of the market went a little bit in Fuego today.
Starting point is 00:10:29 Tech software, artificial intelligence. And it was just a very good day as we headed to earnings. I have very little in the way of complaints. We still think you avoid China, gold miners, a lot of the oils, though, a little bit better, and whatever's bearish. There's still plenty. But it's just good action. It's just good action.
Starting point is 00:10:54 And now, let me state for the record, I think the small caps are going to get going again. We'll explain a lot more. I'm Gary. This is the one only investors. Edge. Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions
Starting point is 00:12:43 you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. In this episode, we are diving into gut health with CVS pharmacist, Victoria Motola, who explains why so many of us live with stomach issues we should not accept as normal. A lot of what I see is just like chronic bloating, chronic stomach aches. Like, I get a stomach ache every time that I eat. And it just becomes like a lifestyle where, oh, yeah, you know, I just, I have a stomachache every day. Or I'm constantly feeling like gassy. And all of those things are not something that generally, if you have a healthy gut, you should be living with. So that's when we deep dive. We deep dive into your medication. We deep dive into your
Starting point is 00:13:24 OTC medication. And then at that point, we can probably identify something that we can change. Hear the full conversation, plus some fascinating facts about how gut health affects so much more than just your stomach on Beyond the Script, a podcast from CVS Pharmacy and IHeartRadio. Starting point is 00:14:58 The last bastion. quality programming with Gary Coltbaum. It doesn't get better than this. I do have to mention one other thing, and it's not because I'm really big in the know and I don't know anybody and whatever, but I get a feel
Starting point is 00:15:21 for how things are leaked. I'm going to guess by Friday. There's going to be a huge deal with the scumbags Hamas through intermediaries, Egypt Cutter, for the release of
Starting point is 00:15:37 I think the hostages for Israel to cease. I'm not sure how much time to cease, but I'm pretty sure something's going to get done. In case you do not know, Israel has done a magnificent job of destroying their tunnels, getting massive amounts of weaponry out of their hands, and getting a lot of them terror. The problem, there's still others, but they really, in a short period of time, Israel lost many, many young men and women, soldiers defending the country from these scumbags, these animals.
Starting point is 00:16:32 You know, we always talk about second chances and forgiveness. I will never forgive anybody. who is backed Hamas in any way, shape, or form. If you are for Palestinian people, horse of a different color, we don't want any innocence, injured, maim, death. But in case you do not know, Hamas has been killing Palestinians, shooting them dead, and then reporting it as Israel. I can go on and on about what these people, animals do. and I can promise you going forward
Starting point is 00:17:17 they ain't getting into Israel again and what they did is really screw the Palestinian people because in case you do not know many of them crossed into Israel every day to go to work I'm not so sure that's going to happen going forward without serious vetting we'll keep you up the date on it but don't be surprised
Starting point is 00:17:38 if in the next week I want to see those hostages home to my good buddy Jeff Unger One of my oldest dearest friends He's been in Israel for the last 10 days Just got back He was helping with the farming and stuff God bless him
Starting point is 00:17:54 Back on markets Again the Dow was pretty doing nothing And then boom up 100 and then lifted Dow was up 224 The help today was software Salesforce.com 8 Microsoft 6 Visa
Starting point is 00:18:13 Reacted poorly on earnings Right back up 5 and 3 quarters today. S&P up 36, NASDAQ 172, NASDAQ 100, 175. And what happened there? You ready? NVIDIA back up 14. Things like workday up 8, Facebook up 7, up above the 400 big number. And I can just list them. Chipotle breaks out in advance of earnings, $78.
Starting point is 00:18:41 A strong day for the restaurants. Domino's pizza breaks out today. It's just a good market. Can't find much to tell you. Ineconomically sensitive, my favorite name, United Rentals up 16 today. And just so you know, when we scan, we do it without bias. If bad shows up, we know it. If good shows up, we know it.
Starting point is 00:19:13 If set up show up, we know it. That's how we roll. And now we'll see what's next as we move forward. Why? This week, ladies and gentlemen, This week, earning season, just six names are 34% of the NASDAQ 100 and 25% of the S&P. Amazon, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Apple, and AMD. Amongst a couple others, big ones.
Starting point is 00:20:06 and in the aftermarket we have mentioned to you this super micro SMCI well they pre-announced numbers and had a big move up they came out with earnings after the close today I don't know if they sent anything different
Starting point is 00:20:24 but I do know what the stock is doing they beat by their raised guidance and the stock's up another 10% in the aftermarket and I'm noticing in the after market and I'm noticing in the after things like, Nvidia up another seven bucks,
Starting point is 00:20:45 and so on and so forth. We're sure there's going to be some blowups. We'll be ready for those. I see Whirlpool down six to seven bucks in the aftermarket, but I see F5 networks up 13. That's what we're going to have to deal with going forward as we move into earnings season. And just letting you know we have themes.
Starting point is 00:21:15 One is we don't buy too close to earnings. we let you decide on that. We just have this thought process. Markets are tough enough. We have no interest in tempting fate. But, but if reactions are good, we'll be ready. If things are breaking out, we'll be ready. And so on and so forth.
Starting point is 00:22:07 Now, what's interesting, I'm seeing SMCI up nicely in the aftermarket. But it doesn't look like they raise more. I think this is the same. But the market likes it. We'll see how the night goes. For full year 24, better. And why do we mention this name that most people don't know? AI.
Starting point is 00:22:36 It's the AI thing. And to give you an idea, estimates for the year were going to be $11.3 billion in revenues. They're saying 14.3 versus 11.3. and that's what you look for in stocks. The greatest stocks have the strongest growth of sales and earnings and the ability to beat
Starting point is 00:23:03 by miles what the market thinks is going to happen. Simple as that. And we're seeing it in the AI front right now. Notwithstanding, we'll see what happens overnight. And on earnings, up next, we'll give you a hint.
Starting point is 00:23:30 I'm Gary. This is the one the only investors end. Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. A lot of what I see is just like chronic bloating, chronic stomach aches. Like I get a stomachache every time that I eat.
Starting point is 00:24:21 And it just becomes like a lifestyle where, oh, yeah, you know, I just have a stomachache every day. Or I'm constantly feeling like gassy. And all of those things are not something that generally, if you have a healthy gut, you should be living with. So that's when we deep dive. We deep dive into your medication. We deep dive into your OTC medication.
Starting point is 00:24:40 And then at that point, we can probably identify something that we can change. change. Hear the full conversation, plus some fascinating facts about how gut health affects so much more than just your stomach on Beyond the Script, a podcast from CVS Pharmacy and IHeartRadio. Listen now wherever you get your podcasts. With the Venmo debit card, a taco in one hand, and ordering a ride in the other means you're stacking your rewards. Nice. Starting point is 00:25:41 With zero grams of added sugar, no artificial sweeteners, and absolutely no carrakeenae, it's a clean, delicious way to fuel your day. So you don't just age gracefully, you age powerfully. Vital Proteins. Stay vital. Learn more at Vital Proteins.com. We're listening to. America is talking. Investors Edge.
Starting point is 00:26:10 He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on his feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. with Gary Colbomb. It comes highly recommended. You're going to feel better if you talk to him. So, tomorrow, just tomorrow. You ready for this?
Starting point is 00:26:38 And some of these names don't matter so much to me, but they're important tomorrow. GM, HCA, the big hospitals, Corning, Danorher, JetBlue, MDC Holmes, Pfizer, Pulte Holmes, UPS. You know it's after the close tomorrow? Google Microsoft. After the close. AMD. After the close. Expectations for Google, so earnings to be up nicely, same with Microsoft.
Starting point is 00:27:16 We have no idea what the market's going to do on it. All I know is both have been acting pretty darn well. Wednesday before the open, Boeing. Can't wait to hear what they say. Man, oh man. I got a sneaking suspicion, some airlines that fly a lot of Boeing. are talking to Airbus right now. Breaker International, big restaurant change, ADP,
Starting point is 00:27:45 MasterCard, I told you about Visa, bad reaction to earnings, and right back up today. Old Dominion, trucker, C.H. Robinson worldwide in the transports. Qualcomm, this is Wednesday after the close. Meritage homes, Landstar, Metropolitan Life. Otis, the Elevales, the Elevales. 8ers.
Starting point is 00:28:11 Thursday before the open. A ton of names, but not the most meaty stuff. But you got things like Honeywell, which is in the Dow. Dover, Eaton, Ferrari, Merck, which is in the
Starting point is 00:28:28 Dow. Peloton, are they still in business? Royal Caribbean, the strongest of cruise lines. And then, after the closed Thursday, you ready for this? Amazon Apple. Just for starters.
Starting point is 00:28:48 Gargantuan. You think I'm done after the close? How about Facebook? With Amazon and Apple. Unbelievable. Amazon Apple and Facebook, all reporting at the same time on Thursday. Oh, and by the way, Wednesday, we get missed the bubble.
Starting point is 00:29:11 Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. blah, blah. Just so you know. They're not even on the playing field. Everybody gives up... Every time I'm on TV, you know what I have to say? They don't matter. And people think I'm nuts. But they really don't. Unless they do something. And right now, all they're doing is playing catch-up. That's all they are doing. So they're not going to matter much to me.
Starting point is 00:29:50 And that will be the earnings week. And we'll do our very best to let you know. and to what we think. But that SMCI market liked. So far. We'll see what tomorrow brings. And man, oh man, be ready for a ride this week. Just be ready for a ride.
Starting point is 00:30:19 As I look, just to give you an idea. Anybody you've ever heard of Calix? I haven't. Close at 44. It's a computer networking company with a billion in revenues. It's 34 in the aftermarket. that's what we mean. There's going to be a lot of jello moving on the plate.
Starting point is 00:30:42 And again, we'll be ready. Now, something else is going on that you need to know. The 10-year yield, which is of import, is having trouble at the declining 50-day moving average. Do you know what we mean by that? That means it's remaining in a bare market. We're talking yields, not the bond market, the actual yields. The bond market's in a bull phase.
Starting point is 00:31:12 If interest rates come down, that's going to fuel more of the market. And maybe that's what the market's saying. Now, I know you're also hearing from some people, because we see it. There's too much tech. There's too many people in it. There's too much money in it. The valuations versus this and that is too much. They're all correct.
Starting point is 00:31:39 The percentage of the market that's now tech blows away 1999. They're saying that means we're going to have a crash in tech. Maybe they're right about that. Here's the good news. If you listen to the show, if it happens, we'll be ready. We haven't missed any big downturns based on our following the roadmap. The markets. We know what tops look like.
Starting point is 00:32:10 We know what bottoms look like. We certainly know what major uptrens and downs. down trends look like and when something lifts off to the upside or lifts down to the downside we never know how long it lasts we just know a moves afoot and all we can tell you is today nothing changed and it just got stronger particularly out of the box today software stocks I didn't see any news to drive that but software stocks they have been strong they kept going the other party equation is this little move is on the Broad Bay side. And now if the IWM, actually it moved above a little range today.
Starting point is 00:32:57 Maybe to attack the highs of the year of December 205.49. You may want to look at the chart of the IWM. That's your small caps. They have labored versus the large caps for quite a while. but they're certainly trying to come on. And also look at the KRE, because that's meaningful. Those are the regional banks, and if we told you, they're quasi-bond funds, why? They own a ton of long bonds. So when interest rates went up, they got creamed. When interest rates came down, they rallied.
Starting point is 00:33:33 If interest rates have another leg down here, we expect the KRE to go topside. And again, that's regional banks. and that would also mean some of the biggies go also and the big banks are much stronger than the regional banks right now have you noticed something about my radio show lately I don't have a lot of avoids from July the end of October 80% of the market we would tell you to avoid November 1st that all changed now we'll see where it takes us
Starting point is 00:34:12 we also want you to ignore oh it's an election year it'll be good you We don't pay attention to that. Oh, the Saturn is conjunction with the moon. We don't pay attention to that. Everything we do, we take from what the market's telling us. And what the market gives us. No need to predict. Let him predict.
Starting point is 00:34:38 We'd like to get tomorrow right, let alone where things are going to be at the end of 24. And all we can tell you with the close today, good stuff. good stuff but now the wild card thousands of earnings reports and a ton of the biggies and again we have zero
Starting point is 00:35:01 clue about which when where are the best reactions up and the worst reactions down we always let the market decide that and whenever we see
Starting point is 00:35:18 somebody on TV say well you know we're buying before earnings what you're buying before earnings no thank you very much not on a playing field so pay attention good market yields fed earnings but war yeah I know that's one big hell of a wild card because you dealing with a bunch of nut jobs around the globe. I'm still amazed. Putin still got his job and is still doing what he's doing.
Starting point is 00:36:09 Look how long that's been going on. Who knows what's next with Iran. And of course, when wrong, be wrong fast and be wrong small. When right, try to let him run. Up next. This, that, and the other thing. And we've got a bunch.
Starting point is 00:36:40 I'm Gary. This is the one on the only investor's edge. Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. Starting point is 00:39:22 What are we waiting for? Well, what are you waiting for? One, two, ready, go. Investors Edge with Gary Culper. And welcome once again to Investor's Edge. In the news. San Francisco's oldest toy store. store, which inspired Toy Story blockbuster movie shuts down to 86 years.
Starting point is 00:40:09 And they quote, due to the perils and violence of the downtown. And I repeat, Nancy Pelosi, it's her district. She was on the Sunday shows this weekend. Do you think a journalist asked her, what the hell are you doing with your city? What the hell are you doing with your district? They don't ask. Why? They will be afraid that they lose their job. That's why. You got that?
Starting point is 00:40:48 That's how much power she wields. And that's how much afraid. Store after store after store. One after the other have been shutting down. Amazon Go, Office Depot, Greaten Barrel, Marshals, Old Navy, CVS, Cvassiname, Banana Republic Nordstrom's the container store Nordstrom rack Sacks off 5th
Starting point is 00:41:15 Yotel Abercrombian Fitch Gap AT&T H&M, DSW Rayban Omega Whole Foods all shut down
Starting point is 00:41:33 and nothing's getting done and the weird part hey they'll keep electing the same idiots. Look what they did in Chicago. They got rid of a horrible, crazy, anti-citizen mayor. High taxes, lots of regulations. Let's not put them in jail. And they got a guy who's worse. In the news, Venezuela, interesting. Venezuela's highest court, which in case you don't know, is controlled by, the scumbag who
Starting point is 00:42:16 runs the country, Madero. Is barring the opposition leader for running from president? Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Where have we heard that before? Interesting, huh? And you guys know, I'm no Trump guy. But where have we heard that before? It's happening in Venezuela.
Starting point is 00:42:49 In the news, in case you don't know you know all these diet drugs what is it with Govi and all this North Carolina is going to stop paying for the obesity drugs why too many people
Starting point is 00:43:07 I want to warn all of you that get onto these drugs just want to remember something of import if you stop doing the drugs and they work if you do the drugs and they work once you get off, you're going to gain all the weight back. It's how it works. What you must do, it's very simple, is eat well, exercise, don't eat crap, alcohol is bad, wasted calories.
Starting point is 00:43:43 I can go on and on. You got me? I mean, all that has ended up being a placebo. No, really. No really. No really. Just so you know, Palm Springs in Vegas. I didn't know this until I read it. I pretty much confirmed it too. Did you know that Palm Springs in Vegas? They banned Airbnbs. And now home prices are in free fall. Vegas is finding owners up to $180,000 for illegal renting. Some 40 to 50% of homes in Palm Springs were bought by investors for Airbnb rental. That could be a bust. We'll let you know. Huh.
Starting point is 00:44:45 Huh. In the news, I'm not making this up either. In Oakland, Blue Cross Blue Shield has told employees to stay inside for lunch and don't go out. They're worried about the crime. No, I'm not making that up either. No, really. These are the things we're finding out. I'm not done.
Starting point is 00:45:13 You ever watch Joy Read on MSNBC? I've never watched her. Why? Because I've read about her and she's homophobic or whatever. And anti-Semitic, the whole works. We will not watch these people. It turns out she had a woman on. And this woman was showing a book that was in a school.
Starting point is 00:45:35 And pretty much, you wouldn't. didn't want your teenagers, let alone the kids in the school. And I won't describe it for you, but you can imagine, you can go look it up. The woman was from Moms for Liberty founder, and I decided to check this out if it was right, and she was right. Joy Weed was mad that the woman did not want the kids. You know, I really can't repeat was in the book. It was that bad sex on a sexualized part. I'm not making it up.
Starting point is 00:46:14 I tell you as it is. These are the things that are going on, and why does it matter to the markets? Because, dudes, we want people running the country. We want the mouthpieces that are just plain logical. That believe in three words, we the people. We want some logic to the system. That's all. I wish I could repeat what was in that book.
Starting point is 00:46:51 I wish somebody would get pissed that our government spending $2.7 trillion over and above what we're giving them, and we're still giving them 4.something trillion a new record. I wish things can change, but they ain't going to change
Starting point is 00:47:07 because one's worse than the next. But the market's going up, and we'll keep coming up. as we move into the earning season. You have a great evening, drive carefully. When you get home, do like we do. Quite simple. Make sure you hug your family.
Starting point is 00:47:20 Make sure you hug your children. They will feel better. You will feel better. I promise. Have a great night, everybody. I'm getting some rest. Peace out all. Same time tomorrow.
