Glad you're here, ladies and gentlemen, happy that you're listening. It is Wednesday, February 7th, 2024. Hope you are having a good day.
Starting point is 00:00:40 As always, this is serious talk about you and everything that affects you in the economy, jobs, the markets. D.C. We've been covering places like Oakland and San Francisco, D.C. in some of these places where the leaders have left the places for dead. And why does that matter to you? Because there's more and more of them. and if you do not get this radio show in your city, we'll post it at garyk.com. We'll also post it on our Twitter feed. And if you don't follow us on Twitter, which is now X, go there, put our name in, or press the button at garyk.com, and then put our name in.
Starting point is 00:01:19 You can email me, all you got to do is be nice. And that's how we start the show. I must tell you, we do markets. Our job is to guide you through markets. Our job is to interpret the markets without any bias, no ulterior motive, no agenda. Just what are the markets doing? What are the markets telling us? Where are the big up trends?
Starting point is 00:01:43 We are the big downtrends. What are the big downtrends? What is emerging? What is submerging? And we've done a pretty darn good job. And you never know. We always tell you when something breaks out to the upside, you don't know. you hope we call it the launching pad and if it can turn up and then turn up into a good up trend
Starting point is 00:02:10 money to make same with the downside we never know duration we know when things are topping we know if they're getting worse we know if they're going through the process of a bearish phase like the process of a bullish phase on the way up and then there are moments where we can never be 100% certain. Never. In real time, you really don't know what's to come. But you've seen something so many times before in the market's history. We've always told you when we used to go to the William O'Neill seminars,
Starting point is 00:02:48 they had the level four, level five, whatever it was. It was four or five grand. That's how much it was worth to me. I've been to a few of them. And somebody would ask about a stock that was, trading now. And then out of O'Neill's mouth is, well, in 1956, so-and-so stock did this, let's go take a look at it, and then he'd show it to us, and it looks exactly like
Starting point is 00:03:17 the one now. And as we say to you, and we tell our peeps and everything, all we're doing is looking at a photo album for familiar faces. You golfers out there, what do you do all the time to get a great swing? Well, you go to get some lessons. I remember I went to Jimmy Ballard Golf School down in Miami a long time ago, and he said, make like you have a basketball in your hand, and you're throwing it. Basketball's in your hand, you're throwing it.
Starting point is 00:03:54 If you're going to be throwing the basketball, there's no way you can do something called the reverse pivot. In other words, you don't throw it and then lean backwards. You throw it and you end up forwards. taught me a lot. A photo album for familiar faces. Now, we want you to remember something. What we do is physical. What we do is psychological. And what do we mean by that? Well, we're investing money. We're investing real dollars. We're investing. We're investing. other people's real dollars. And when you're doing that, you really want to do the right thing.
Starting point is 00:04:39 And in real time, you're just not sure until things really start working. And I'm bringing this up because I really want you to remember something that we did here in the last month, and we said that day we don't usually do this. We're pretty specific with you, every now and then we get what we call the sore thumb in the market. A sore thumb just really sticks out.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Looks classic. It's the swing of Ben Hogan for all you golfers out there. One of the most classic golf swings that everybody wants to mimic. And that was the Nvidia. And we're not trying to hype us. We're trying to teach you. you. We're trying to let you know if you have a strong focus and a keen eye and time and are willing to put the time in. Man, oh man, we're on a treasurer hunt on a daily basis. And all we can tell you again is NVIDIA on Friday, the 5th of January.
Starting point is 00:05:57 That was a little bit of a culmination for us because we've been talking about NVIDIA for a while how, oh, it's. just sitting in a six-month trading range while everybody's talking it up. Why is it in a training range? Why isn't it going? Why isn't it doing this? Why isn't it doing that? And then we noticed three times it pulled back to the $400 mark and three times it held. And every time, just about every time we'd rally up to 500.
Starting point is 00:06:30 Kind of like a 25% swing. And then we noticed the last time it pulled back, it only pulled. pulled back to $4.50, a higher low, inside the trading range. And then, on that Friday, we had an inkling because two weeks before that Friday, we thought it was ready to break out, but the market took a pretty good hit. And it came back, but it immediately went right back towards the high, which is the breakout point about 505. So on that Friday, not knowing on Monday it was going to break out, we, is the word vehemently a good word to describe this?
Starting point is 00:07:19 Or vociferously, we stated a move above that 505, 506 area would be huge for a couple of reasons. And we described it for you. Number one, arguably the most important technology stock out there with gargantuan earnings and revenue growth. And number two, institutions. Institutions know when something's busting out. Institutions know the importance. And we told you they would be on it. It's gone from 505 on the 8th of November.
Starting point is 00:07:59 That move. It's over 700 now today. And I will tell you yesterday, I thought it was going to be. resting. I actually thought they were going to be resting technology stock starting yesterday, and technology had a big day today, actually a pretty big day today. Nice call there. But we want you to remember this, and we want you to print out a chart of NVIDIA, wipe out the last five weeks, just the breakout, and picture that and post it up on your wall. Why? because you will have the confidence the next time something like that shows up to jump all over it, to jump all over it.
Starting point is 00:08:54 And what did that do also? And we had that inkling. It had us by AMD when it moved out. It had us by Microsoft when it moved out. We bought Facebook when it moved out, a little AI there. We bought Broadcom when it moved out. Why? Because we also know a part of this game is,
Starting point is 00:09:13 stocks move schools of fish and away we go and we had no idea be this good we had an idea it be good but now 40% in a month on a mega cap name like not as mega as apple but yeah it's up there and we already printed it out we posted it up and that's how we roll and you know what we're going to be doing going forward we posted that up but you know what we really posted up super micro the one we did not buy the one we did not buy to make sure the next time we do because sm i look like nvita but i'd like to say it screwed us but we screwed us we thought too much they were gaping it up on earnings then they were dropping it and then in the first couple of minutes it's zoom right past the resistance and before i knew it was 20 bucks above resistance moved 40 bucks
Starting point is 00:10:29 in a matter of a couple of minutes and i said i'm gonna wait it's up 80 percent even better than invidia so look how we've we're gonna keep notice on invidia but we're already going over what the heck we didn't do and by the way super micro is not the only one we didn't buy Constantly learning. That's the markets. Up next. Lots more. Today, the markets. Emma Wyden Complaint. I'm Gary. This is the one only Investors Edge. Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the
Starting point is 00:12:29 pharmacy counter. In this episode, we are diving into gut health with CVS pharmacist Victoria Motola, who explains why so many of us live with stomach issues we should not accept as normal. A lot of what I see is just like chronic bloating, chronic stomach aches. Like I get a stomach ache every time that I eat and it just becomes like a lifestyle where, oh yeah, you know, I just, I have a stomachache every day. Or I'm constantly feeling like gassy. And All of those things are not something that generally, if you have a healthy gut, you should be living with. So that's when we deep dive. We deep dive into your medication.
Starting point is 00:13:07 We deep dive into your OTC medication. And then at that point, we can probably identify something that we can change. Hear the full conversation, plus some fascinating facts about how gut health affects so much more than just your stomach on Beyond the Script, a podcast from CVS Pharmacy and IHeart Radio. Starting point is 00:14:38 Hey, this promises to be fun. Investors Edge. The last bastion of quality programming. With Gary Coltbaum. It doesn't get better than this. So, let us continue on how we treat things. We also have a 30% move in Facebook in a month. with double digits in AMD
Starting point is 00:15:07 Broadcom we made like 10% in three days still have a piece just bought a little bit on Amazon yesterday and looks really good not telling you to buy sell shorter cover we're just letting you know you know how we're spending our time why didn't I do this
Starting point is 00:15:33 and why didn't I do that that's how we're spending our time Today, earlier in the day, I'm traveling tonight, by the way. On Delta, not on the 737 max. Love Delta. They're so good. Going to New York City. Spent time with my parents. We'll be in studio at Fox tomorrow and Friday.
Starting point is 00:16:04 Tomorrow we'll be at, by the way, 10 a.m. hour Fox Business Network. I'll be on with Stuart Varney. I think the whole hour. And we'll be yapping away. Complaining about something. That's what I do. I complain. There's a lot to complain about.
Starting point is 00:16:22 But what I do right now is go over. Why don't I do this and do that? How do I not have this? How do I not have that? And need I say, there's more than one name. That's the part of the business. We learned a long time ago certain things. and we told you on this show.
Starting point is 00:16:57 In philanthropy, we told you about how we heard the line. If you're able to, always think about doing something for somebody you need absolutely nothing from. It's one of those things. But another one is, be your own biggest critic. Always be introspective into what you do and how you are doing it. And be honest with yourself about it. when things are going good be your most paranoid is another one how many great businesses went to crap because they got too full themselves i'd say numerous so that's the things we are
Starting point is 00:17:48 doing right now i'm looking at taiwan semi conductor as i speak gaped up beautifully announced accelerating earnings and sales i don't own it just broke to new highs. Gapped up, moved higher, came back, pulled back to the gap point. And this week, with these other things going on, a little boat, maybe I'll buy it tomorrow. I don't know. But I'm going to be asking myself, and the great thing about my software is I get to go backwards. I got to go backwards. I'm always constantly going backwards to see, okay, that looks like so, So just giving you an understanding how we roll. And none of this was invented by us.
Starting point is 00:18:48 We have read and studied the greats in every aspect of life. From sports Michael Jordan, got to read some of his quotes. I know Will Smith did that thing with Chris Rock, but he once had a quote, and I'm paraphrasing because I lost the quote, I'll find it one day, but it went something like this. I know people in my business that are much better than me and have much more talent than me, but I will be working 10 times harder than all of them put together to be as successful as successful can be. That was a Will Smith quote. I lost it. I had it. I had a little envelope. I always carried in my walt. I can't find it, but I'll find it again.
Starting point is 00:19:50 And then, of course, there's Charlie Munger of Warren Buffett fame, but actually Charlie Munger Fade just passed away. Go read some of his quotes. Warren Buffett, I'm paraphrasing, it takes a lifetime to gain a reputation and minutes to lose it. How many of that have you seen? Oh, we've seen a lot. of that so just giving an understanding how much we put into this physically mentally with integrity that's the third part of that equation always try and do the right thing never compromise ever so we're just giving you a little understanding and all that That does not equal success, but certainly gives a little lift towards success. I'm just bringing this up right now because those are the things I was thinking about today
Starting point is 00:21:08 as I'm watching Nvidia across the 700 mark. How do I not own this, in this, and this? Not even patting myself on the back. And it's just one stock, but we've had a few others. And hopefully Amazon's the next one. The thought process on Amazon just gaped up, and it's not even back at the old highs, which were 188, it's 170, and hopefully we're gone there. We're going to have our stops in place just in case a few percent, and then close our eyes, hold our nose and pray. So just a little bit of our thought process, and we think we've also have our kids, our children, our children, our children.
Starting point is 00:21:59 children think in the same way because we've always tried to walk the walk. I hate cliches. Walk the walk and talk the talk. You know, it's great to tell your children how to be, but if you ain't B, they're going to see you ain't B and your words carry less weight. Remember a little bit of that. Now it's 3.46 p.m. because we are pre-taping, usually at 4 but 3.30 because we've got to catch a flight. So we'll take you to the close, but let me just state for the record. A bafo, yeah, bafo, that is a word. A bafo day for technology, software, artificial intelligence, and some unbelievable reaction to earnings of course. Some not so good.
Starting point is 00:22:56 And of course there's some blowups also, but just very strong. Bafo means a success. Deep and unrestrained is another. Very successful or wholeheartedly commendatory. It's another big word. Bafo, up next, we'll continue on these markets because lots to cover. I'm Gary. This is the one only investors edge.

Starting point is 00:25:54 He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on his feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. With Gary Colbomb. It comes highly recommended. You're going to feel better if you talk to him. So, so yesterday, throughout the day, I'm really thinking, first off, let me make a statement on something else.
Starting point is 00:26:21 We have something called an advanced decline line. And basically what it is, it's the adding up advances versus decliners on an index. And then we match it up against the index. The advanced decline line topped out at the beginning of January for the NASDAQ and has done nothing but go down. While the NASDAQ keeps going up, how is that possible? Bigness. do you know the NASDAQ right now is up 147 today?
Starting point is 00:26:54 The NASDAQ 100 up 183. Let's call it around 1%. Advance declines on the NASDAQ as I speak. 1,600 up 2222 down. Bigness. Guess what we've only really owned? Bigness. Because that's where the market takes us.
Starting point is 00:27:17 And we're asked all the time, When are small caps going to play catch-up? And I always say, I don't know, but we will let you know. And we've probed them a couple of times to no avail, to absolute no avail, because they keep underperforming. They are like, not this bad, but it's like me racing against Usain Bolt. No, it's not that bad. That's too wide of a spread.
Starting point is 00:27:51 but if they start going, we'll let you know. It's the same as the other areas that we keep telling you about to avoid. China, avoid. Yesterday we said to you, maybe coming out of their coma, but we're worried about it being the government. Alibaba reports down four and a half bucks today, the 73. We've told you to avoid the gold miners. They are just not keeping up with the metal.
Starting point is 00:28:24 And if the metal breaks out, we'll tell you to buy the metal, leave the gold miners alone, even though normally it's the other way around. We've been telling you to avoid most of the oils. They're just weak. Lower oil prices, just not happening except some of the couple refiners and some of the pipelines. But the main names, blah. And there have been other areas and, of course, other names avoids. But we're always ready for them to not be an avoid and take it from there. Think about this.
Starting point is 00:29:08 Before November 1st, we had an avoid on 80% of the sectors in the markets. On November 1st, we got on this show and said to you, we think we had it. Well, we did have a confirmation day in the market that very often turns into a good phase. but not every confirmation days turned into a good bull phase. It just so happened this time it did. That's what we try to do here. Identifying marks. Signatures that show up in bold, in headlines, with highlighters.
Starting point is 00:29:54 And when wrong, be wrong, fast and small, when right, try to let him run, which is, as I've told you, the hardest thing to do. You know I stopped out of a stock yesterday Went down another 10 bucks after It's back up that 10 bucks today No biggie But that was easy It's easy for me to stop out and say
Starting point is 00:30:13 Hey I lost 2% on a 5% position One tenth of a percent Hey but by the way I got four names that are up 30% What's tough is Something goes up 30% and just stick Because you do get some vicious pullbacks during that time. And what we've been able to do,
Starting point is 00:30:33 this go-round week, drew down a little bit and kept it, the remaining. If we have a 10% position, we'll knock it down to 7.5. And then watch it go up higher. Welcome to my world. So we're actively not patting ourselves on the back now.
Starting point is 00:31:00 We're giving ourselves some F-bombs on some names that were, as I say, it's never a gimmick. me, but really should have been in. And I'm not talking about names that I wouldn't be in because of rules. What rules? I'm not buying anything a week before earnings. Chippotle. I loved the breakout in Chipotle on January 29th. I told you about the breakout in Chipotle and I told you we can't buy because they're reporting in a week. It broke out at $2,350. They reported earnings.
Starting point is 00:31:45 It's up $174 today to 2662. 12% move, 13%. Was up one time today, $250. Love to be in it. Can't bang my head on that one. Just have a rule. I may have to change it a little bit because that was a really good looking move.
Starting point is 00:32:08 And remember, photo album for familiar faces. But then there are others where, as we mentioned, the super micro, and there's a few others. And what is it all about? Consistently learning and challenging ourselves to get better and better and better. because if we perform, our clients perform, the business performs. And we are one of those when things are at their best, we get our most paranoid. In a good way.
Starting point is 00:32:49 I know the word paranoid, not such a good word. So as we close the day, it's 354. We're up 148 on the Dow. What we do? 142 on the NASDAQ, it's not even 1%. But Palo Alto Network's up 23. Outstrike up 16. Broadcom up 31. And Vitty up 18.
Starting point is 00:33:08 Microsoft up a big eight and a half after acting crappy on earnings. And thank God I kept the piece. And I may have to buy back what I sold with profits, of course. Facebook up a juicy 14 today. Remember, gargantuan gap to the upside. And by the way, I've done some work on Facebook. Hmm. Hmm.
Starting point is 00:33:38 Remember, we don't predict. So I'll just use the words, I wouldn't be surprised. And I did the work last night. And I, by the way, I sold down a little bit, made 120 points in a matter of a month. That's six weeks. I may have to buy it back. You know what it feels like? Well, number one, their business is accelerating, but I was adding up and I'm thinking,
Starting point is 00:34:08 is this thing cheap? After this move? We'll see. We'll keep you up to date on it. We'll keep you on top of it. We still own it, and we'll see what comes of it, as we get near the close of the day.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Interesting enough, another bad advance decline day. The NYSC advanced declines are only 21 to 18.5 with the Dow up 138. just one of those things. We'll stick with the big until they're no longer because just small ain't happening. Now I'm being asked a lot about the commercial real estate and all kinds of other stuff. Yeah, there's problems. I think there'll be buyouts. I think there'll be write-offs.
Starting point is 00:35:08 I think there'll be workarounds. I'm not so sure there's big disasters coming like some are predicting. I have read about buildings that went for 150 million bucks being sold for 60 million in certain cities. Guess what? Somebody's taken a loss and somebody's buying on potentially the cheap. I'm hearing a lot of these buildings are changing up. Hey, malls around here, big changes. Macy's gone. They put in a big gym. Things like that. Schools are going in to malls. They're figuring things out. Doofuses do not run these real estate empires. They're quite the smart. Again, they're not duffices. We'll keep your breast of it. Our big worry always remains what they're doing to us in D.C. They are abusing us. We are nothing. We're not we're not we the people.
Starting point is 00:36:17 We're we the slush fund. That's all we are at this point. We're a freaking slush fund for these people there. Up next, we'll take it to the close. This is the one only investors edge. Starting point is 00:39:51 Kind of I'm depressed but I don't play them that means they're just very loyal people if they do ever I'll be missing for a few days in the news hurts Reportedly considering mass layoffs, after offloading its 20,000 strong Tesla fleet,
Starting point is 00:40:24 cancels plans to purchase electric vehicles from Polestar due to disastrous depreciation. We told you a long time ago, regardless what they have told you, that there'll be a certain segment of the population that will be in on electric vehicles, and most not. And remember, whatever's been going on with electric vehicles, that includes them using us as a slush fund and giving our tax dollars to the wealthy to buy expensive electric vehicles. How's that for you? And they're all getting out of it. You know, it's turned hybrids. That looks like the shape of things to come.
Starting point is 00:41:22 What a concept. Gas and electric. That way you have a choice. which means you're going to use mostly gas in the news well they did it again what have I been telling you about the Republican Party they're the worst marketers of all time first off they sign off on a spending bill of 6.7 8 trillion with 2.7 trillion in deficit of the last year just nonsense while they tell people they care about debt and deficits but the immigration so here you have
Starting point is 00:42:01 this president. His name's Joseph Biden. A nightmare. And I think when I use the word nightmare, I'm being kind on the border. A nightmare on the border. Disastrous on the border. Gargantuan disaster on the border. And did it on purpose. Wipeed out everything Trump put in like you're staying in Mexico. What a concept. The amount of people coming across blows away anything beforehand. Facts, facts, numbers, numbers, don't lie. The media that's in the tank is now able to blame the Republicans because they didn't sign some deal. Now let me tell you about this immigration deal in case you didn't know. Remember, we have no. We have no. bias. It sucked. They called it an immigration bill, but about 15% was for the border. Everything
Starting point is 00:43:40 else was in there. See, they don't dare do standalones. It's just like the inflation reduction bill. Another big lie where Biden came out and even said there's nothing about inflation reduction in here. And what does Republicans do? They get part of it. They get into it. Get involved with it, get it to the table, get it out there, and then don't pass it. And now they're being blamed on immigration when they have no blame on what's happened in the three years. And of course, the media is running with it. Just remember, all the problems with immigration in the last three years, the media will not say the name Biden. It's just, oh, the border, the border, the border, the border, the border, the border, the border, the border.
Starting point is 00:44:31 Never the word, Biden. And now they get to blame the Republicans. Because they are the worst marketers in history. Dufuses. You got a Marxist control freak running the country. Horrible decision in Afghanistan. The women of Afghanistan back in the dark ages. You have despots around the world,
Starting point is 00:45:00 giving him the middle finger and by the way I'm not into this that it wouldn't happen if Trump was you know Trump keeps saying if I was president doesn't happen yeah okay sure fine way to go Donald and you had three holes in ones yesterday anyway you get my point
Starting point is 00:45:18 and yet the Republicans are now guess what looking like doofuses yay anyway that's the immigration and again there was nothing in that bill that was going to do anything.
Starting point is 00:45:36 Maybe a little bit here and there, but nothing. And of course, they tie all kinds of other things to threaten with all kinds of things in there. And that's how they roll. I do know Israel was in there. It would have been nice if they did a standalone on Israel. No, we can't do that. They voted that down.
Starting point is 00:45:57 Anyway, so just letting you know the border is going to continue to be a nightmare. We need somebody to become the presentest country that actually cares and does not politicize every little thing out there like this dude does. Remember, they only did this because two months ago they saw their poll numbers on immigration. It only came to this point. They saw their poll numbers on immigration. Their poll numbers are lower than root canal, diarrhea, constipation, the Ebola virus.
Starting point is 00:46:33 So they decided we got to put something through and blah, blah, blah, and that's where we're at. Dow close 156, S&P 40, NASDAQ 147, NASDAQ 1082. Arm holdings, a stock I've been watching, up 15 in the aftermarket to 92 bucks. That may further the move in the semiconductors. Recently came public. We'll go over that tomorrow from New York. Have a great evening, drive carefully when you get home, do like we do. Quite simple.
Starting point is 00:47:05 Make sure you hug your family. Make sure you hug your children. They will feel better. You will feel better, I promise. Peace out all. I'm out of here.
