Starting point is 00:00:47 Thanks for being with us today. Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen, happy that you are listening. It would be December 20th, 2022, Hanukkah Week, Christmas week, everything week, the holiday week. Hope you're having a good week. If you're traveling, be safe, stay. and I have a good advice for you. I'm supposed to fly to New York City Thursday night from Orlando, Florida. Tonight I'm going to be checking maybe I should fly out tomorrow night.
Starting point is 00:01:18 Looks like the real bad weather's not going to get to the East Coast to later in the week, but you never know and you never know where planes are going to come from. So that'll be my evening tonight to figure that out. Whatever you do, it's the holidays as we can. say to you, always think about doing something for someone you need absolutely nothing from. If you have the wherewithal, if you have the opportunity, it can be small, it could be medium, it can be big, it can be for one, it can be for the few. Think about doing something for someone. You need absolutely nothing from. I want to start the show. I have spoke about. I have spoken about
Starting point is 00:02:07 this man quite a few times throughout the years. Gary Kane. Head honcho, top dog, big cheese of the Boys and Girls Club's of Central Florida. One of my major influences, he is my influencer, took over a struggling in the tank. Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida, disheveled, disparaged, and turned it around. And with his leadership, changed the complexion of all of Central Florida. The amount of crime that did not happen because of this man. The amount of children that are great success stories because of this man.
Starting point is 00:03:08 The influence, the great influence because of this man, cannot even be counted. After a bunch of years, Gary Kane is retiring from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida. And we all wish him the very, very best. And fingers crossed if the next person that comes in is one-tenth of Gary Kane will be in great shape. And everything I just said I meant, And I always tell it to him. And you know what he always says?
Starting point is 00:03:47 No. It's all of us. I could not be here. I could not do this without the great people, the great staff. Well, guess who started it from the get-go? Guess who was able to get these great people? Guess who was able to influence these great people? Staff board members top the bottom.
Starting point is 00:04:14 It all starts somewhere from him. I've always worried that if any great major S&P 500 company ever knew about him, he'd be gone. Well, he stayed and stayed till he decided to retire. So we wish him well. Nothing but the best, a major influence on my life. on my life in a life where I have a few major influences
Starting point is 00:04:50 but here in Central Florida no bigger no greater than this one man and I gather I am not alone okay you know we get a lot of emails
Starting point is 00:05:07 Gary you seem to know you get on this radio show we watch on TV And you seem to have a good handling of things and a good knowledge base of things. How? Well, I'm not a genius. I read a lot. But I also know who I'm reading and know who is believable and who is not believable.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Who is a hack and who is not a hack? Just so you know, here are my morning. I am up early. My phone is in hand. I walk outside. First thing I do is I go to the digital Wall Street Journal. That's number one. And what I do when I go to the Wall Street Journal, I will first go to what's news. And it'll give me probably 50 articles of what's the big news of the day in different areas. I will then go to the markets and go through all that, about 35 articles. I will go through opinion, probably about 30, but only about 10 I need to worry about. Then, yes, you may not know this, but I get the New York Times Digital. Gary, the New York Times Digital, isn't that like reading Pravda? Well, no. The editorials, the op-eds are like reading Pravda, but they have tremendous, magnificent
Starting point is 00:06:43 and journalists at the New York Times that report on so many things without bias. And just so, you know, I don't mind op-eds. We know these people have opinions. Just at the New York Times, there are just some that are just plain and sane and what I've never understood. I don't understand, and I will never understand why anybody would like socialism, Marxism or communism. Because all that is is taking control out of your hands to a certain level and giving it to other people.
Starting point is 00:07:16 That's all you're doing. That's what socialism, Marxism, communism is. It's control freaks at the top, giving you the middle finger, telling you what to do, how to do it. And in some cases, what you can't say, what you can't do. And there's some op-eds, I mean, Paul Krugman, he's been wrong 99 out of 100 times. If the Republicans are president, the economy sucks. If the Democrats are president, the economy is great. If the Republicans president, debt and deficits bad.
Starting point is 00:07:46 If a Democrat is president, debt and deficits, it's just a bunch of bullcrap. So you just got to know who. So I will go through the New York Times. And you know something I learned today from both. And I've already known who, who the president of Belarus is. He's a scumbag. He's friends with Putin. He's kissing. They're both kissing each other's, but the bad guy. I wanted to know more about him. I read more about him today. And what I'm very good at is retaining. I retain the things that I read. What else do I do as I'm walking? And by the way, that's how I keep my buffed figure. I have Twitter. And what's on my Twitter is a certain feed from a certain group of people that whenever they post something,
Starting point is 00:08:40 I get it and then I read it and we're talking about some of the greats in the market some of the people I follow in business look up Craig Fuller go look them up
Starting point is 00:08:57 on movement of goods go look up Lauren Fix on autos so whenever they are posting anything I get it I'm going through those things and I try not to miss a beat.
Starting point is 00:09:17 I am a constant reader of things, knowing there's a lot of bull crap out there. And I know who they are on both the left and the right, the extremists, the hacks. You know who they are, right? Right. On the left, if the guy on the right commits crimes, he should be in jail.
Starting point is 00:09:40 On the left, if the guy on the left commits the crimes, they don't report it. So you just know these things. So I'm very good of flushing out the bull crap. And then it's just a constant push to me from the people that I follow. And every now and then there are new people I find. Do I think some of them just post charts? Some of them, I believe, have great eyes in the market.
Starting point is 00:10:08 Others are in the athletic industry. you know who David Gaggins is? Go look them up. Inspirational. The guy does like 270-mile marathons. Go look them up. So these are the things people I follow, and it just keeps me in the loop at all times. But the most important thing you do need to know is who's full of crap. And there's a lot of that out there. I'm both sides. One side has turned Anthony Fauci. into the Antichrist. He's now the Antichrist on the extreme side.
Starting point is 00:10:53 He's a crook. He's a murderer. You get the point. I can go on and on the other way. Anyway, that's my mornings. Up next, full market, lots more. I'm Gary. This is the one only Investor's Edge. Hi, I'm Gary Kalbaum, hosted a nationally syndicated radio show Investors Edge.

Starting point is 00:14:47 The last bastion of quality programming. With Gary Coltbaum. It doesn't get better than this. And look once again to Investors Edge. By the way, you know, I've told you in the past, and I'm not ashamed. And it used to be people would make fun of me, but I've been a big professional wrestling maniac since the mid-70s when I used to go to Miami Beach Convention Center and see dusty roads wrestle the bad guy each week and now it's mainstream.
Starting point is 00:15:47 Nobody makes fun of me anymore. But another thing I have done since, and, you know, since 1916. 78 or 79. I don't miss General Hospital. And actually, I used to watch all my children one life to live in General Hospital, but they took all my children in one life to live off. So I've been watching General Hospital. When I'm not around, I tape it. And you go through it quick. One of my favorite actresses. And not one of, not a mainstay, not the big star on the show named Sonia Eddie passed away at the age of 55. In case you don't know, if you're a Seinfeld fan,
Starting point is 00:16:32 she was Rebecca DeMorne on Seinfeld a couple of, just two episodes. The one where the muffin tops, where she was from the homeless shelter and they would drop off the stumps and she was pissed off. What are you just giving us the stumps? Why aren't you giving us the muffin tops also? That's who she was. Anyway, she passed away at the age of 55.
Starting point is 00:16:57 Nobody, you know, they didn't say what happened. I'm quite depressed. And rest in peace. That's a little bit about me. How's that? That's my mornings. I watch General Hospital. I watch professional wrestling.
Starting point is 00:17:15 And people used to make fun of me big time on the professional wrestling now. Not anymore. You know big time professional, you know what kind of billion dollar industry it is? It's unreal. It's unreal. You know they're going to have a WrestleMania two days again this year? I think it's going to be like 150 to 200,000 people to watch professional wrestling. Ain't nobody making fun of me anymore.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Okay. So what else I do in the morning is I will read an article and then I send it to myself because I want to finish it or because I want to mention it to you that this week, just news of the day, do you know North Korea is banning fun alcohol and birthdays this week? Because the last Kim Jong scumbag died in 2011, December 17th. So this week you are not allowed to have any fun, any alcohol,
Starting point is 00:18:26 or birthdays. you cannot celebrate. I gather if they find you celebrating, they're going to shoot hellfire missiles at you because they enjoy blowing you up. So I wanted to let you know that. That was interesting to me today. I also wanted to let you know. I sent this to me also. And you may see this as nothing to do with you and your money and all that. But I just got to tell you, it's so weird out there. I wonder if there is this group of people that get into a room and just their business card says spoilers. How do we spoil people's days? How do we ruin their days? That's what I really think's going on.
Starting point is 00:19:18 What do I mean by that? Now Stanford University, beautiful campus, by the way, I've been there, is now. Now, including in their index of harmful language, I'm not making this up. And just people having to go into a room and make decisions on the utter stupidity, you ready? Out. You can't use the word American. I'm not making this up. It now has to be U.S. citizen.
Starting point is 00:19:57 These are people that are teaching your kids. out. You can't use the word grandfather. You know, you can't grandfather in. You have to use the word legacy. It's no longer man hours. It's person hours. You can't use the word brave. No, I'm not making it up. Because when you use the word brave, you are promoting somebody as being savage. You mean a soldier goes in to fight the bad guys. and saves five people's lives risking their own life, you can't say the word brave about that person at Stanford. No more kill two birds with one stone. It's now do two things at once because it'll piss off the birds. No, really. I'm not making this up.
Starting point is 00:21:00 And I think there's room to be looking at things. I do. But man, you know how there's this other line. you give a person a little bit of power and what do they do with it? No more, you're no longer American. You're now a U.S. citizen. You can't be an American. You're a U.S. citizen.
Starting point is 00:21:23 Do not say the word American or you are going to be in trouble. No more walk-in. Can't walk in. It's a drop-in. No more guru. Guru's bad. Can't be a guru. I can go on and on.
Starting point is 00:21:50 There's a dozens. dozens and dozens. They must have been drinking a lot of tequila with some sake bomber shots afterwards and coming up with all this stupidity. You can't use the word American. Oh, sure. These are the people running a major league top college in the United States. They need to sit down with me and teach them to maybe ease up a little bit. Everybody's insulted. I take it back. The few were just insulted.
Starting point is 00:22:32 They're just very loud in being insulted. I told you this is a true story. It was at a target. I held the door open for a young lady. She F-bombed me for holding the door open. What do you think I need your F-in' help? Who do you think you are? some big man, you effing big man? And I said, I would have held it open for a man also.
Starting point is 00:23:08 And she looks at me and says, F you, and walks away. What can I tell you? Next up, I promise the market wrap. This is the one only investor's edge. You record your show, upload it once, and Spreaker distributes it everywhere people listen, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and about a dozen apps your cousin's swears are the next big thing. Starting point is 00:25:26 See Capital One.com for details. You're listening to. America is talking. Investors Edge. He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on his feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. With Gary Colbomb.
Starting point is 00:25:44 It comes highly recommended. You're going to feel better if you talk to him. By the way, I'll finish it up. I'm the king of holding doors open. I'm the king of letting people in front of me. I'm the king of if somebody wants to get in in traffic, I'll stop and let them go. You know how so many people, they'll see you getting in and they'll speed up so you can't get in? I'm the opposite.
Starting point is 00:26:23 So as I said, I just held the door open for this woman. I would hold it open for anybody. and she was just cursing me out and people were watching my usual sweet charming self, low voice, took it easy and she I actually thought she was going to smack me
Starting point is 00:26:40 for opening up the door. It was so weird. Okay. By the way, why do we bring this up? It really all matters because the things that are being taught to people from the colleges, that goes down to how they are in business, how they treat things,
Starting point is 00:26:58 see things. Just remember, the economy is the sum of the whole. There's 330 million of us. I think adults, probably 200 and something million, how many workers. And I just wonder some of the crap that's being taught out there. It's so weird. And then of course, there's the miseries run in the country. It's kind of like a one-two punch, huh? All right. A little bit about me today. So I got to figure out, am I flying tomorrow or Thursday? am I going to get screwed on Thursday if I wait flying up the Northeast Corridor? That's what I got to decide tonight. But beforehand, the market wrap is brought to you by Investment-Models.com.
Starting point is 00:27:55 That's Jim Moraback, one of the great market timers. No gray areas with the man you're either in or out of the market with his proprietary indicators. Go check it out. Investment-mottles.com. Well, one thing continues to stand out. One thing continues to stand out.
Starting point is 00:28:21 The Dow was up 92, but the NASDAQ was only up one, and the NASDAQ 100 was down 12. That's what stands out. What have we been complaining about? Just that. Just that. That's what we've been complaining about to you. You can't have the down continuously lead, and the NASDAQ types lack.
Starting point is 00:28:50 It is the risk on, risk appetite versus risk off and risk no appetite. And it's just another day where they couldn't get anything going. Dow was up 92, the NASDAQ was up 1. NASDAQ 100 was down 12. The NASDAQ was down 16. transports 181. You can't have that. Now, you did have some strength today.
Starting point is 00:29:17 You had strength in commodities. Why the dollar's weakening. And I'm not going to get into it too much, but Japan overnight. Just so you know, you know how much I complain about Jay Powell. This guy run in Japan makes Jay Powell look like the tightest monetary policymaker in the history of the world. His last name is Corota. They in a surprise move, they're letting their rigged and manipulated bond market yields go up an extra quarter point. Hey, yay.
Starting point is 00:29:52 And what that did was strengthen the yen, weaken the dollar. When the dollar weakens, commodity prices go up. So gold, gold miners, silver, oil, and the like, all had a nice day today on a surprise move. Whether or not it sticks or not, I don't know. but go look up why do commodity stocks go up when the dollar's weak why do they go down with them when the dollar is strong
Starting point is 00:30:20 why do multinationals that are based here go up when the dollar's weak and why do they go down when the market's strong go look that up so that was that part of the story what else a little bit in the financials
Starting point is 00:30:40 okay we'll give it that some Dow stocks were up a little bit but you ready for a few things and I'm stunned Tesla down another 12 $137 and 80 cents two words to that holy crap just a colossal blunder by Elon Musk buying Twitter
Starting point is 00:31:07 by the way I really do believe this 50 point discount $50 discount in Tesla because of Twitter but I'm also now wondering, what does the market know? This isn't just going down. This is getting smoked. It's gone from 314 to 137 and change in just two months. I take it back three months.
Starting point is 00:31:41 It is down 55% in three months. Market cap about 600 billion. $5.50. It had a trillion-dollar market cap. It's now down to $435 billion. I think a lot of its markets just can't deal with this. Just remember what I've said to you, my thought process on him. This guy does not act any way, shape, or form what a CEO should act like.
Starting point is 00:32:18 And it's cute and it's funny sometimes, but when all is said and done, you're going to piss off Wall Street. And he's doing one hell of a job of pissing off Wall Street and the shareholders right now. He better get his act together. He better get a CEO and a good one. And he better get the hell out of the way. And he better stop saying stupid things and stop doing stupid things. And he's been doing a bunch.
Starting point is 00:32:46 Considering he's a brilliant man, some brilliant things, go back to doing your brilliant things and stop the crap. And it's a whole lot of crap. Unbelievable. By the way, in the last two plus weeks, $199 to 137 and change. In the last two plus weeks, unbelievable. And the rest of the tech area just not happening. You have up days. You get things bouncing around. But there just remains no what I call oomph whatsoever in tech land. pH. You know what oomph is, right? It's when you have bull markets. Relentless moves to the upside. There's none of that going on right now. There really isn't. Oils bounce today. The Dow held the 50-day moving average today. I'll give it that. Not so sure I can give more than that and as you know the 50-day moving average is vitally important to our work the s and p remains a little bit below the nasdaq 100 much worse the russell 2000 much worse
Starting point is 00:34:19 i will tell you also the xm e the metals and mining sitting right on the 50 day at the close today i will tell you the materials the xlb sitting at the 50 day let me be clear and concise a break of the 50 days 50-day moving average in any of those areas will just worsen in already recently weakening market from its counter-tren rally as we head into the end of the year. So if I were you, I'd be scanning those areas, looking where the 50 days and a clean break and a close below and a sticking below would not be good news and would not look good on a resume for the market. I will tell you, you in the oils the oh iH which is the oil services is stronger than the big oil which is the x le which is stronger than the weakest which is the xOP the explorers um nondescript
Starting point is 00:35:29 nondescript they've been weak but not end of the world like weak not like a paypal or a or a Carvana. I'm still looking at Carvana and saying, holy crap to that stock. $4.16. Gotta believe it's just a matter of time before they file. Up next, whatever I think of. Thanks for being here. I'm Gary. Starting point is 00:38:35 With Gary Culper. Okay. My annual what not to listen to. It's my annual what not to listen to. You ready? I heard somebody today say, I expect a rally into end of January and then a bad February in March. Do not listen to that. I heard somebody say today, we think the the S&P will be up 9% in the year 2020, led by, do not listen to that. Heard somebody say today that the S&P is going to drop the $3,000 before I would even consider doing any buying.
Starting point is 00:39:48 Don't listen to that. I heard somebody say in the last week, what he thought was going to happen in 23 and 2024, don't listen to that. You know where I'm leaving. We've never had ever here to predict anything. All we have ever had to do is take the evidence the market gives us and define major trends, not so major trends, things may be trying to start a trend and stay on top of them at all times. We've never had to predict a year out, ever.
Starting point is 00:40:50 When we told you about bubbles and popping, it was based on the bubbles happening at the time. The climatic runs, the sickly psychological thinking of those participating in wanting to buy a game stop like the young lady who called me up she was in her 70s or 80s
Starting point is 00:41:20 the day it hit 400 that day called me up somebody I never met never spoke to not a client she just listens to the show you think I should buy GameStop I said, wait a minute, do you know where the stock was last week? Do you know it was just four bucks two months ago?
Starting point is 00:41:43 It's now 400? And her question back to me, what if it goes to a thousand? Not even caring about downside risk. That's not predicting anything. That is a photo album. And we are finding familiar faces in that photo album. and that photo album was from the book Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds and any other thing we have ever read about bubbles.
Starting point is 00:42:18 You're also going to get periodicals coming at you and magazines coming at you, the top 10 stocks for 2003. We don't want you to pay attention to them. Not a lick. The top five, the big 10, the top 20. I do know there's a certain famous somebody in the year 2000 at the beginning when the top of the bubble came out the stocks for the new millennium. A brilliant person. They went down 99%.
Starting point is 00:43:01 Most of them went to zero. We don't want you to listen to any of them because I have news for you. The market doesn't care about them or their opinions. There are too many variables. Look how many things we can go through in 2003. We don't know. We don't even know what the hell Jay Powell's going to say tomorrow. We don't know what Joe.
Starting point is 00:43:24 Well, the good news is, at least the republicans, winning the House, can stop Joe Biden for any more Marxist stupidity. That's the good news. But we don't know what executive orders he may do. We don't know what Russia is going to do, this moron Putin. We don't know. We don't want you listening to any of that. I would gather some of the top 10 stocks told you for 2022 at the beginning of 22 are down 80%. I'm sure there's some big favorite stocks that are goners.
Starting point is 00:44:05 All we need to know is the clear, clean direction, what's leading, what's lagging, try to figure out why but pay more attention to price, and just the major trends. That's all we need to know. Not knowing how long those major trends are going to go, but we will be ready for when they stop. And all we can tell you right now, the market as a whole is sloppy as all hell. The big tech is being destroyed with Tesla the latest. The bombed out stocks, maybe they've been bombed out enough, but they're really not getting going. You got little better activity in the commodities because of how weak the dollar is, but that can change.
Starting point is 00:44:52 The financials just had an ugly top, specifically the regional banks as well as a few big capital one financials at a new yearly low. The auto's acting like the south end of a northbound jackass. A lot of retail stocks bombed, Lulu Lemon, the latest to get destroyed. Got a little too much inventory of those, whatever those things are called. The slacks, the pants, that's all we need to know. So that's what we don't want you paying attention to as we get. get into the new year of 2023 because unless you are Roger Healey from I Dream a Jeannie when Jeannie gave him next week's newspaper today and he went to the horse track.
Starting point is 00:45:38 There's nobody who knows where things are going to be at the end of 2023. Yes, I was a big I Dream of Jeannie fan. And no, I wouldn't go to the horse track if I got next week's newspaper today. I'd just be playing the options. And that's that. So we'll be paying attention this week. Some people say don't. It's the holidays.
Starting point is 00:46:02 No, everything counts. Mushy day. Dow lead, NASDAQ lagged. That's got to change. You have a great evening drive carefully. I'll be on with Charles Payne tomorrow, Fox Business Network 2 p.m. And when you get home, do like we do. It's quite simple.
Starting point is 00:46:18 Make sure you hug your family. Make sure you hug your children. They will feel better. You will feel better. I promise. Have a great night, everybody. To the same time tomorrow we. Always appreciate your time. Take care. Bye-bye.
