Investor's Edge with Gary Coltbaum. Straight talk about you and your money. Now from the BizTalk Studios, here is Gary Cultbaum. And welcome once again to Investors Edge. I'm Gary Coltbaum, your host.
Starting point is 00:00:45 Hey, thanks for being with us today. Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen. Happy that you are listening. I think it's Wednesday. I'm pretty sure. It's August 21st, 2004. It took me a moment. And as always,
Starting point is 00:01:03 serious talk on everything that affects you. This is the most important show that's under the radar in the whole wide world. With no agenda, no bias, no ulterior motive. Look what we do. We guide you through you the markets. We keep you out of the bare markets. We tell you what's leading in the markets, what's lagging. We're as logical as logical can be. When it comes to the people running this country, we use numbers and facts. And we don't give a crap if they have an R or a D next day. to them. And whatever else comes to mind. And we're apologizing again to you today for not running against these people. The interesting thing is, if I primary Trump for the Republican side, I'd probably lose 90 to 10. But if I went against Trump in the national, I'd landslinson.
Starting point is 00:02:05 him. If I went against Biden, landslide him. Went against Harris, who's turning into left of Biden, landslider. It would be so easy. So logical. But it's not the track I have taken. We'll continue to espouse we the people here. And we're no crazy. We're just interested in A government that's efficient and effective, not corrupt, no insider stock trading, balanced budgets, accountability, and enough of the bull crap.
Starting point is 00:02:54 Instead, well, let me just say what we're seeing right now, and we have two nights left. It's a convention of clowns. And as you know, the first night, I only watched snippets that were sent to me. Last night, I may have spent 10 minutes. And the only reason I did it, I always have to watch three minutes of Bernie Sanders. I watched two minutes of Michelle Obama. I watched three minutes of Barack Obama. And anything important that they had to say I got after the fact,
Starting point is 00:03:38 Barack Obama is very popular. Very popular. Nothing personal. Never met him. I was on the same street with him one time. Lived in a neighborhood where they were doing a money raise. And he passed me buying the big motorcade. By the way, there was like 20 cars and 40 motorcycles.
Starting point is 00:04:18 in our neighborhood. But I cannot ever forget Obamacare. Because Barack Obama last night praised Obamacare and said that the Republicans don't call it Obamacare anymore to not give them credit
Starting point is 00:04:34 for how great it is. Really? How great it is. Interesting. You see, they call it great because more people have access to it. Terrific.
Starting point is 00:04:52 They got rid of this pre-existing condition deal. Used to be that if you had a certain pre-existing condition, you would pay a bunch more in insurance or would not be included. Noble thoughts. When you are done listening to this show, just go to your computer. Google the words Jonathan Gruber lies about Obamacare. And watch, because as we told you back then, there is no way they were telling us our premiums would go down. And I would just get on TV and say, how is it possible?
Starting point is 00:05:33 I debated Democrats. How can premiums go down when you're taking more people on to the dole? And you're getting rid of pre-existing condition, which means the costs are going to go up for whoever charges. and guess where that is going to be put upon? Well, how are your premium since Obamacare? So his biggest bill, his most important bill was just a big, fat, juicy lie. And his own main architect, Jonathan Gruber,
Starting point is 00:06:13 you can go watch on video. So as a political politician leader, screw them. And then there's Bernie Sanders last night. They actually had Bernie Sanders speak to the country. Bernie Sanders once called for a 100% tax rate for anything you make above a million dollars. That's not a typo. Bernie Sanders has praised Castro and Cuba and the Cuban economy and the Cuban health care. Last night I watched three minutes of him saying We need a crap load more of government And the money out of your hands
Starting point is 00:06:59 And into ours That's what he said Marxism Control Domination Rules regulations Fees, Fines, Mandates, Taxes, Kamala Harris has now come on
Starting point is 00:07:23 And stated I am good with Joe Biden's long-term capital gains raised from 20 to 44.6. Unrealized capital gains 25%, on top of losing the Trump tax cuts. And there's a wealth tax in there now also. Marxism. I would landslide her. I would possibly win California against her.
Starting point is 00:07:51 In a debate, she would mow me over. It would be over. she would beat the crap out of me within two minutes she would be so pissed and we have nobody nobody that knows how to effectively counter it sure Trump's out there
Starting point is 00:08:15 but it's dumb that doesn't do it and Trump can't counter on the debt and deficits because he was bad also but as I said if I was in a primary Trump he'd kill me because the people in the Republican Party Love Donald Trump.
Starting point is 00:08:37 God bless you. They want to take over your lives in ways you don't know because you don't have the feel yet. As we have stated to you, they're taking your tax dollars and giving it away the way they want. Migrants that come here illegally are getting cards with cash on them and food, while veterans are homeless. You're all paying for it. Giveaways on student loans. Oh, you didn't go to college or you paid off your loans?
Starting point is 00:09:24 Up yours. But you don't feel it. For the thousandth time, if you would go to your bank account today online, it's a $300 debit for student loan forgiveness, and you call up your bank and they said, well, it's not for you, it's for other people. they couldn't get it done.
Starting point is 00:09:44 But since they've made debt and deficits, gargantuan, the size of government, gargantuan, everything's a footnote these days. It's a convention. They were talking about joy all night last night.
Starting point is 00:10:02 Kiss my joy. Some of the greatest con artists of all time last night. Not to take away from the con artist in the other party, but there's a special place in my heart for people that look you straight in the face that are worth 200 million bucks
Starting point is 00:10:27 never worked the day in their life in the real world and telling you you need to pay them more you need to give them more you're not paying your fair share you better vote for them because if you vote for the other guy you're dead
Starting point is 00:10:48 you know after they're from the camera, they're in the back rooms drinking champagne and shooting middle fingers at you, right? Bernie Sanders gets to speak at the convention. Let's call Nicholas Maduro in. Hey, up next. We'll wind that up. We'll get to the markets. This is the one only Investor's Edge.

Sprinker, because if you're going to talk to yourself for an hour, you might as well publish it. It's time to switch on the integrator units and get the brain cells working. You're listening to.
Starting point is 00:14:31 Hey, this promises to be fun. Investors Edge. The last bastion of quality programming. With Gary Coltbon. It doesn't get better than this. I got to tell you, I'm so disheartened. I'm so disheartened. I would have landslideed her.
Starting point is 00:15:06 She'd be a goner. Imagine she stands up there. I'm going to raise long-term capital gains from 20 to 44%. I'm going to say I'm not. Unrealized capital gains, I'm going to say I'm not. I'm going to go over the exact numbers of what they have done with the size of government. and then I would go in depth and show the American public how much has been wasted and given to donors. And I would add it up and then said, I won't.
Starting point is 00:15:49 I would show them exactly why in the timing of the inflation and why that would not happen under what I would do. I would show them how easily I would run surpluses. because we keep growing the economy, but for every dollar, they go up $1.30. We'll change it from every dollar to up $99. The list goes on and on, how easy it would be. I pay videos out of what's happened to every country that's called for price controls. It'd be easy. It's a gimmie.
Starting point is 00:16:43 Price controls. You need to tell me people that have never run a business are going to decide on the price of an item. Oh, sure. Crime. She was part of the $950 brigade. What was that? Oh, if you steal $949, you're okay, but $950 can be in trouble. That was her. It's a gimmy, let alone the other part of the equation. Nobody has voted her in to be running for the president of that party. You were conned. You were scammed. They waited it out. This was pre-planned. The media is not investigating because the media is happy. Joe Biden would have been buried in the election. This was a coup for the people who argue about democracy. And the other guy is going to kill democracy.
Starting point is 00:17:57 This is exactly what they just did. And the media? Well, hey, so what happened there? Hey, Nancy, what happened? Oh, we don't need to talk about that anymore. It's already done. No, but what happened there? What did you say? Who did what?
Starting point is 00:18:18 Well, you know, it's a cesspool. It's a cesspool. You got Paul Krugman of the New York Times. This political hack that under Republicans' deficits are bad, under Democrats, they're okay, says Kamala Harris economic policies center left and just fine. A gargantuan bull crap artist that gets to write in the New York Times. I believe he even got a Nobel Prize to be a political hack that doesn't care about you, just cares about his team.
Starting point is 00:19:11 We'll keep talking. We mean business. I'm pissed at myself. I really am. I mean that. She'd be dead and buried on a debate stage against me. I wouldn't need a script. I wouldn't need any practice.
Starting point is 00:19:39 I wouldn't have to practice how to debate. I would look at the American public and just ask, where do you want to go? Do you want control your lives? Do you want somebody with a machete and a mallet? knocking you on the head and cutting you off at the knees. They do it with rules, regulations, fees, fines, mandates, taxes, giveaways, and all kinds of other little tricks. We move on.
Starting point is 00:20:13 Market was all over the place today, but finished well again, and had another thing happen again at the day-to-day, and we have described this for you recently, and we mean it when we say it. Today, the best way I can put it, at 3.4,000, I'll get the number for you. At 3.30, the NASDAQ was up 30 by the close up 102. So again, at the close they were in there. Dow was only up 55, but I don't care about the Dow. I care about the NASDAQ. That's where the growth is. That's where the semis are.
Starting point is 00:20:56 So another good day. I'm hoping for nothing for a few days or a couple of weeks. sets things up better, but they didn't have that in the offing today. And you add different things going on today in the market. And when you see Dow Up 55, ignore it. And as I do my scans, some things showing up. You may get some good breakouts here real soon and some names that weren't. The strongest names are breaking out. Facebook looks close.
Starting point is 00:21:35 you had a weird day where they came out with a revision for jobs, 818,000 jobs less were created in the last year than they told us. How the hell is that possible? Only 818,000. And you would think markets would be upset about that, worry about economy. well the economic stocks were up today retail was up today target today was up uh 17 bucks today because they really started making money better again you know what happened with the inventories and all that crap sales growth a whopping 3% and also the fact that target was
Starting point is 00:22:29 270 bucks in november of 21 it's still 160 It was up nicely today. Ooh, I didn't realize Target was that far up. But other retail stocks, Burlington, edges out of range. Dick's sporting goods looks like it's about to break out. Even the weaklings, Lulu Lemon was up today. Alta Salon was up another 11 as Buffett. Soon as it was announced, Buffett took a position.
Starting point is 00:23:02 Up next, we'll continue with the markets. Whatever else, I'm Gary. This is the one only investor's edge. Guys, it's no use putting it off. The best time for an underwear refresh is now. Tommy John underwear is designed for a perfect fit that stays put all day. Their zero-chafe thanks to four times more stretch than competing brands. Even better, Spreaker helps you monetize your show with ads, meaning your podcast might someday pay for, well, more microphones. Start your show today at spreeker.com. Sprinker, because if you're going to talk to yourself for an hour, you might as well publish it. He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on his feet here.
Starting point is 00:25:31 He's a Cinderella boy. With Gary Colbomb. It comes highly recommended. You're going to feel better if you talk to him. So, jobs revised lower 818,000 largest revision since 2009. Unemployment rates at 4.3, highest inch 21. Five out of the last six job reports have now been revised lower. A record number of Americans are now working multiple jobs.
Starting point is 00:26:03 11% of credit card balances in the U.S. are now delinquent, the highest in over a decade. Just letting you know these are facts. You can extrapolate whatever the heck you want out of them. We're just stating the facts because we keep getting told everything's good and okay, that's fine. We had a retail number this week that was supposedly strong. Okay, that's fine. But more importantly, markets been reacting well to some weird things. And we'll, market's a telegrapher of the future.
Starting point is 00:26:30 It's a forecast of the future and does not look backwards. So maybe something good is going on. And as I look at my screen, I'm just noticing things like W.W. Granger may break out again. Sherwin Williams acting well. United Rentals, a little bit better. Just those type of names. Good day for the semi-conductors today. Pretty much all green today in the semis.
Starting point is 00:26:52 A lot of weak names bouncing even more, and that's good to see. There was a buyout in coal stocks today. Symbol, Arch Coal. and symbol C-E-I-X, which is Consolidated Energy, they're doing a merger. So that was going on today. But really, the story for me was the retail stocks today and how we finished again today. They were selling it off. You could sell it off into the clothes.
Starting point is 00:27:21 Instead, they were in there buying, positioned themselves for future hopeful gains. We have no idea what the market's going to do tomorrow. We'll see what the heck happens. but that's basically the story kids. Bad numbers are being bought up again. The crash that just recently happened is all but forgotten. The VIX, the volatility index, has been crushed down to nothing. And it is for the record books.
Starting point is 00:27:52 As we have told you, the last two times we saw something like this, it took months to normalize. It took days this time. Beats the hell out of us, what's at work. But that is the story. I can't go any further than that. The 10-year yield was down to 3.778 today. That is good news.
Starting point is 00:28:13 Lower yields, cost of capital is going down. Mortgage rates, I think, now have gone from 7-9 to 6-2. That's great. We're never going back to 3% mortgages unless there's some sort of disaster. And the Yuts running the Fed decides to print $9 trillion and take rates down to zero again. which obviously is not out of the question because if he did it once before, why not do it again? We expect them to cut rates, but very important you listen to me and not what you're hearing. All they're doing is playing catch up.
Starting point is 00:28:55 What drives the bus is the 10-year yield. It's at 3.78. They're up at 5.5.5.5. So if they lowered rates a quarter point or a half, they're still way above, that nothing they do will affect a job or the economy. They are not the economy. They think they are. They think they're in control. They're lucky they have us. And the hope is, there's a simple hope, that they don't do something stupid, but they're going to lower rates, start playing catch up, they'll do it slowly. Do I give them any credit? No. I don't think they should even exist. Not as people, but
Starting point is 00:29:39 their jobs. Just another avenue government that sucks. Tonight they'll have a sexual predator speaking who's been accused of rape, amongst other things, and was on Jeffrey Epston's airplane 15, 20 times. You think I like him? Now you people on the left, don't be emailing me saying, oh, but Trump? Yeah, we've said that too. We have no favorites here. The one thing I love about Trump, he's got great golf courses. Second best golf course I've ever played was Trump Scotland.
Starting point is 00:30:31 He bought Turnberry. I'm not talking about Turnberry that he bought. Trump Scotland is the second best golf course I've ever played. Tide for number one? There's a few. Royal County Down and Royal Port Rush in Ireland. But there's a bunch in there that I can mention like Bally Bunyan an old head in the United States.
Starting point is 00:31:00 You know, I don't have favorites in the United States. But Bandin Dunes was a magnificent trip. Anytime I go to Pebble Beach is magnificent. But Trump, Scotland, damn. And I pard 18, 600 yards into a hailstorm of rain and wind. I don't remember how I did it. And I have it on video somewhere. my T-shot that went straight down the middle.
Starting point is 00:31:30 Anyway, that's Bill Clinton tonight, by the way. Who, by the way, I give him credit. He was the last president that had a semblance of order on debt and deficits. Then the compassionate conservative George Bush came in, and he rammed it up. That great Iraq war that got us nowhere. By the way, I'm not one that believe he lied about it. I am one that knows.
Starting point is 00:32:10 He screwed that up so bad, I can't even begin to tell you. And when all was said and done, you do a post-mortem, should have never done it. We got nothing out of it. Welcome to our world. So that'll be tonight and tomorrow. Whatever, she'll speak and tell you how wonderful she is and what she's going to do. Hide your wallets.
Starting point is 00:32:42 That's who these people are. If you have a chance to watch Bernie Sanders' speech from last night, that's all you'll be thinking. Hide your wallets. And they keep talking about the privileged few. They keep talking about the wealthy. That's who they're going after? No, they're not. They're going after you trying to become wealthy.
Starting point is 00:33:04 Just remember that. When you raise taxes all the way up the food chain, that prevents you from becoming wealthy, easier. As president, I'm keeping them low along the food chain and not have to fund nonsense out of government. How simple would that be, huh? By the way, they're doing that a little bit in Florida. Florida is running a surplus, by the way. Just letting you know. Isn't that interesting? Low taxes running a surplus, California massive taxes running a gargantuan deficit. How is that possible? It's the spending. It's the respect for the people who work in your state.
Starting point is 00:33:58 It's not hard to figure out. And when they tell you the tax cuts cause the deficits, they're lying. Spending skyrocketed. And tax cuts are your money. They act like it's their money and they give it to us. No, it's our money. We give it to them. You have to remember all this.
Starting point is 00:34:21 I've converted a lot of liberals on the economic front to conservatives throughout the years just with those statements. Don't get hooked by these people. They're control freaks. And we have some of the biggest control freaks ever. They're now and bidding to run the country. And we ain't letting up until the election. And after that, if they win. if they lose good riddance but of course we'll have trump and then as we always say with
Starting point is 00:34:59 Donald Trump don't blink and by the way we mean that nicely and you know what I mean by that so we'll go into tomorrow markets acting pretty damn good we're going to be bumping up against some massive resistance here as we try to go up towards the old highs and the market should have had some ability to pull back it's had none you had a little one yesterday and we come back in today and we finish well one thing is missing not a lot of great volume in there but the price action pretty damn good and as we said to you we don't pull any punches we would love we think the better move would be the market to settle down a little bit
Starting point is 00:35:50 here and even have a couple of scare days didn't happen today Up next. Uh, yeah, you know, what else we got for you? Oh, we'd even introduce ourselves today. I'm Gary. This is the one only investor's edge. Guys, it's no use putting it off. The best time for an underwear refresh is now. Tommy John underwear is designed for a perfect fit that stays put all day.

Starting point is 00:38:24 Action! By the way, my Bersaitis and both my elbows have gone down markedly. Out of nowhere, I got these two little golf balls on my elbows. I don't know what the hell they are. They got diagnosed as brisitis. I don't know why. I do a lot of lifting, you know, tricep work.
Starting point is 00:39:01 He said, nah, couldn't be that. He goes, do you actually have your elbows sitting against something? And I kind of sort of, but not rubbing against anything. So I don't know. He goes, it could be anything, but here's what you do. And they gave me,
Starting point is 00:39:14 I wear elbow pads for a lot of the day, and I sit three times a day. And it's been about 10 days since I, I saw them and definitely they're halfway down. I've had no pain. That's the other thing that's weird. But it just feels like, you know, it's something, bleh.
Starting point is 00:39:32 Halfway down so far. Hopefully the rest of the way comes, goes by the wayside. Dudes, getting older. What did I have? The freaking back spasms for six months? Out of nowhere. And now this?
Starting point is 00:39:49 Come on! And I'm the guy who doesn't drink. I don't even like taking aspirin. Take care of yourself, kids. And I think I said it yesterday. You know, when I see people that are just very, very overweight and can hardly walk, why don't they do something about it? You know, you all have control.
Starting point is 00:40:16 That's the one thing you have control, your bodies. Exercise, eat well, get rid of the alcohol. The reason I hate the fact that illegalizing marijuana, marijuana sucks. just another drug but they got to get the tax dollars yeah uh stocks we're watching we were on TV today we mentioned
Starting point is 00:40:41 Spotify needs to break out Costco needs to break out Netflix needs to break out but just some retail have been showing up on the screen uh Dick's sporting goods very close Burlington BURL looks like it's just about
Starting point is 00:40:57 there The strongest stock in the market right now is Ferrari, by the way. I'm not making that up. Symbol race. How about symbol boot? Got to remember what the name of that is. Boot Barn. That's pretty strong.
Starting point is 00:41:16 And I must tell you for the record, some of them have crappy earnings and sales, but they're going higher. Remember what we've said. Something's got to give one day. Analog devices today, Semiconductor, was up 12 at one time, only finished up four, but it was up. Earnings down 37%, revenues down 25%. That was their earnings report. And that comes after a 51 to 34 that came after a 37 to 23 and a 26 and a 16, all down. So you have a massive drop in earnings and sales and the stocks near New Yearly High.
Starting point is 00:41:51 So you know what that means? Valuation is skyrocketed. Do you know what that means next? The market's making a big bet on earnings coming around or else. What do we tell you about valuations? Eventually. And then I got asked about, and I'm going to bring it up and I don't usually, but I'll be careful. ASTS, no sales.
Starting point is 00:42:24 It's gone from 2 to 36. Just be careful. Something that's gone from 2 to 36 in five months. probably got some risk without telling you if it's going to 70 or not probably has some risk and if you catch it at the wrong time expect to get carved up
Starting point is 00:42:49 so just watch yourself there's plenty else in the market that's starting to work after this little crash we had let's hope it continues let's hope it continues in the news well as we told you Ford's now canceling an upcoming three-row electric SUV.
Starting point is 00:43:16 It's now delaying a new electric vehicle plant and full-size electric vehicle pickup. Remember what I told you? For how long? Government mandating and forcing when there's no demand, these companies are losing their ass. They're losing so much money for it. I can't begin to tell you on this electric vehicle. they listen to the Biden administration on what they had to do and how to do it when there wasn't a demand for it.
Starting point is 00:43:49 Tesla stock, it's $223 down for over $400. Demand. Just remember that going forward. I noticed Trump come out and say he may get rid of the, if he was president, the $7,500 to buy electric vehicles. Do you know? I don't know if you know this. And if you don't, now you do. there is a $7,500 tax credit on buying certain electric vehicles.
Starting point is 00:44:17 They changed up the rule. It has to be certain ones now. You know what a tax credit is? That's somebody else's taxes given you a gift. It's not government giving you the $7,500. It's the slush fund. So if you're a billionaire and you want to buy an electric vehicle, you're going to get $7,500.
Starting point is 00:44:42 Trump said he may get rid of it. I'm cool with that. Enough of this stuff. We have just become this gargantuan freaking slush fund to do their bidding, and it's got to stop. These are the things I would be explaining to the American public if I was running. And nobody's explaining it correctly. Nobody. I was watching a Trump thing today.
Starting point is 00:45:24 He hit on some good notes. and then off to the barn we'll see if that gets improved. Only one debate running for President of the United States, they're only doing one debate. That's a crime. Look what's going on here, kids. It's stunning to watch. But more of the convention tonight. Now, what's not a con, tomorrow be on Fox Business Network with Stuart Varney,
