Investor's Edge with Gary Cultbaum.
Straight talk about you and your money.
Now from the BizTalk Studios, here is Gary Cultbaum.
And welcome once again to Investors Edge.
I'm Gary Kalpom, I'm your host.
A thanks for being with us today.
Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen, happy that you are listening.
It's Monday.
It's January 6th.
It's 2024.
No, it isn't.
It's 2025.
By the way, I said 2020.
when you're so used to it.
And by the way, I signed the check today, 2004.
I'm still in 2024.
Yay.
And you guys listen to me.
Hope you had a good weekend.
As you know, I flew up to Northeast, flew back.
I was really worried about my flight being delayed because everything that was going on.
I don't know if you've seen the weather.
Holy smokes.
But no New York City lucked out.
And I got back home in Florida on time.
And of course, I will be flying out again this coming week.
Thursday, the market is closed.
I may fly out Wednesday night because of that and work out of my little office in New York on Friday.
But I'm not sure just yet.
Anyway, hope you had a good weekend.
We have lots to cover.
No, really.
It's the beginning of the year, but we have lots to cover.
the markets, the economy, the president-elect, and a heck of a lot more.
And we're dead serious about all of it as we move forward because why?
About 25 years ago, they decided to get in our face.
They don't leave us alone.
Massive debt, massive deficits, rules, regulations, fees, fines, mandates,
and now tariffs up the wazoo maybe.
I'll get to that in a little bit.
But first, if you do not get this radio show in your city,
we'll post it at garykhae.com.
We'll also post it on our Twitter feed,
which is now X.
And if you don't follow us on X, you should.
And if you like to email us,
all you've got to do is be nice.
Why?
Because we will be nice back.
As long as you're not one of those people who loves Hamas,
We will respect your back, even if you disagree with everything we say.
Where do I want to start today?
Has nothing to do with the U.S., but does have something to do with the U.S.
The miscreant that was running Canada has resigned.
Now, in case you don't know, this guy, Trudeau, we try to be careful here with our words.
Should not be running a lemonade stand.
An absolute horror show.
And I know the word liberal is used often as a negative.
He was an ultra liberal, did not believe in we the people.
It was we the government.
And also on top of that, completely anti-Jew, anti-Israel, disgustingly racist when it came to that.
They're burning synagogues in Canada.
He does nothing about it.
So he's now gone.
And I don't know what comes next.
But something you need to know in Europe, the United Kingdom, they brought in this guy,
a Starmer, who's another horror show.
Do you know they're arresting good British people for going on social media and being upset
about a bunch of things that are happening?
They're going to these people's house and arresting them.
yet you have many a Hamas lover in the streets parading around threatening lives and death and they do nothing.
So I don't know what's happened to my wonderful United Kingdom.
I know the people are fantastic, but we're talking governments here.
And I want to go to Wimbledon again this year.
I guess I might have to shut down my social media and not say anything untoward.
It's getting a little crazy out there.
And we bring this up because it really does matter.
We've told you we dodged a big bullet here, and I don't know what Trump's going to do.
He may suck.
Trump may come in and just absolutely suck for all we know.
You never know.
He may come in and all these promises.
He may not do a great job.
He may not do a good job.
We know what the proposals are, and we love a lot of.
them we hate the tariff thing but we love lower taxes extend the old tax cuts less regulations a
constructive border a an immigration system that works for all criminals put in jail do you know this is
true in new york city a man that was arrested 87 times
a lot of those arrests for violence was still out and knifing people left and right,
just stabbed two people in the last week.
They finally got them.
That's number 88.
Now, it's made front page, so I gather they're going to keep them behind bars now.
But there's a lot of that going on around the country.
By the way, if it happens one time, it's too much.
So we're hearing from Trump, they're going to be tough on criminals, and that's good.
do you know in California they changed the law on shoplifting
they are actually arresting people
and you know these people that are shoplifting like
what's going on here?
Obviously they don't read the paper about the changes
and then you get like a numbskull in New York City
with the congestion pricing
for driving into New York City
which is going to do nothing
but cost people their wallets
so our hope is we get more and more people
that are about we the people
low taxes
we can have regulations but not onerous
and then get the hell out of our way
a border that's secure
and criminals pay for their crimes
what a concept
that's that's it
they don't have to do anything else
unfortunately
they get in our face in so many things.
Now Trump's talking about tariffs
and tariffs the most beautiful word in the dictionary.
No, it sucks.
I can guarantee you there's no way
he's going to do all these tariffs that he says
and the percentage-wise, I think he may do some tariffs.
We'll see how that plays out.
And tariffs are paid by the consumer.
They're not paid by China or any country.
Just need you to know that.
And I'd say it to President-elect Trump's face.
And he knows it.
And we'll see how it goes.
But we did dodge a bullet.
Kamala Harris is left of Joe Biden.
And by the way, Joe Biden walking out the door is giving everybody the middle finger.
He's now stopping oil exploration around the waters.
Screw you.
He let a bunch of murderers off a death row.
Screw you.
Want me to continue?
The Revenge of Joe.
What's today?
The sixth, I think we got two weeks left before he's gone.
And then we'll see how it plays out.
Remember, we will do everything without no bias, no agenda, no ulterior motive.
We couldn't care who the person is running the show.
I want you to remember that.
We are out of anybody's tank, and we will keep fingers crossed that a good job is to be done.
Love the proposals.
let's see them follow through.
Okay, I was always told in January, it's a very weird month.
Things going back and forth up and down all around, and interesting enough, we had one of those days today.
And I'm going to describe it for you, and we're going to continue to tell you what to avoid, what not to avoid, what's emerging, what's submerging in the markets.
And I'm going to start with the semiconductors.
You see, when I went to sleep last night, the NASDAQ futures are actually down a little bit when I walked in this morning and Fuego the semiconductor stocks.
And as you know, they have been comatose for a very long time.
And as you know, I think they're an important area of the market.
Now, they did come off their highs of the day.
But the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index today was up $146 today.
146 points.
It did hit 53, 81, 71.
So it was up to 17, but still a good day.
I think it may have had something to do with Taiwan Semiconductor.
That finished up 5% today.
And Vita was up pretty decently today.
Hit right at all-time highs and then pull back towards the end of the day.
But if the semiconductors can get going, that'll be good news.
And when I take a look at the chart of the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, it did not get above the high of October, but it got above
the highs of a lot of areas over the last six months, and even the worst names, the worst names
that have been blasted were very, very strong. I always talk about this ASML. It gapped up like
50 bucks today. This closed up 54 to 768. I'll explain that in a second. I'm Gary. This is the one
only Investors Edge.

Hello, hello, I'm Malcolm Gladwell,
host of the podcast Smart Talks with IBM.
I recently sat down with IBM's chairman and CEO, Arvin Krishna,
and I asked him,
how can companies use AI to its fullest potential
to create smarter business?
My one advice to them, pick areas you can scale.
Don't pick the shiny little toys on the side.
For example.
If anybody has more than
10% of what they had for customer service 10 years ago,
they're already five years behind.
If anybody is not using AI to make their developers who write software
30% more productive today, with the goal of being 70% more productive,
so we are not asking our clients to be the first experiment on it.
We say, you can leverage what we did.
We're happy to bring out all our learnings,
including what needs to change in the process,
because the biggest change is not technology,
is getting people to accept that there's a different way to do things.

It's time to switch on the integrator units and get the brain cells working.
You're listening to.
Hey, this promises to be fun.
Investors Edge.
The last bastion of quality programming.
With Gary Coltbaum.
It doesn't get better than this.
All right, so let me explain.
ASML Holdings is a Dutch manufacturer.
We'll call it semiconductor equipment.
One got too technical.
They call it lithography systems.
In the fabrication of integrated circuits.
Whatever the hell that means.
The stock had gone from $1110 down to $645.
bucks. They had announced that
orders, it dropped like 50%,
and the stock has been mauled. And it took
along the rest of the equipment companies with it,
applied materials, Lamb Research, KLAC,
and others.
And over the past, let's call it about 10 weeks,
it looked like it was trying to iron
out a low. What do we mean
by ironing out a low?
Well, it found an area that didn't want to go
lower.
And then today, boom,
up 54, 7.5%
on better than average volume.
And I see no news.
What does that mean?
Probably
some leakage through the pipelines
that orders a picking up again
or picking up to a certain extent.
So very good move, even in the worst of semiconductor stocks.
Micron just recently lowered their guidance.
Stock had gone from 157 to 80.
Was up 10% today to 99.
No news.
But if there are more orders and if business gets a little bit more solid,
the price for what they do in these things called DRAMs and flash memory can stiffen up and better for them.
So on really no news today, the semiconductors had a jam. KLAC up 33 bucks to 690.
Taiwan semi up 11 bucks to 220.
Terradine up 9 to 140.
those are for examples
and there are others too
that is to be watched closely
and instead of semiconductors
being an avoid except for a few
strong names we've told you about
they're definitely off the avoid list
until you further
notification
from your handsome and buffed host
and that is Muay
importante
now normally I'd say to you
Hey peeps, the Dow today, the Dow today was up 380 and finished down 25.
That stinks.
By the way, at one point it was down 100.
That's a bad reversal for the Dow.
Normally, I would say that stinks.
Well, for the Dow.
I'm just letting you know the semis strong
growth slash beta
strong
that makes me happy
what was weak and continue to be weak
and without a doubt
avoids consumer staples smoke today
post cereal
Pepsi Coke
Procter & Gamble
Colgate
Chlorox and the like.
Insurance stocks, Allstate, Aeon, Chubb, smoked, we'd avoid insurance.
Housing and housing, excuse me, I take it back.
Housing slash home builders, bearish phase, defense stocks, blasted.
Lockheed Martin, LH, General Dynamical.
Nabix, Northrop Grumman, absolute bare market for defense stocks, and there avoids.
The hotels now under pressure, I'd avoid them. Not necessarily bare market. Big biotech
avoid a bunch of restaurants, not all. Shake, shack's pretty strong, darn restaurant strong,
but a bunch of them very weak.
Economically sensitive names, they bounced today, but they were up much stronger earlier and all got hit.
And United Rentals finished down $11 today.
A new relative low, Caterpillar, was up like five or six, finished up $0.39.
So I'd be avoiding that.
Financials, anything below the 50 days and avoid right now.
Black Rock, below the 50 day, Blackstone.
below the 50 day.
On a differing note,
City group hit New Yearly highs today.
Bank of America had a good day,
but they came in at the end of the day.
I wouldn't call them a void,
but just a bunch of areas.
And we had some bounces in some of the weaklings
like managed care and health care.
Oh, Eli Lilly,
down another 16 today,
and we warned you,
in spite of the obesity drugs,
Lely Lili is in a bare market now.
Let's call it bare phase.
So there's still notice plenty of areas in rough shape.
I heard somebody on TV that they say,
what do you think of this meltup?
I'm like, melt up.
Rails and truckers, ain't nothing going on there.
In fact, they look terrible.
A bunch of medicals, terrible.
And you know what else is really rolling bad now?
Exchanges, the CME group completely breaking down today.
The CBOE, oh, that's been the bare market.
The Intercontinental Exchange, that's a bare market.
The NASDAQ Exchange breaking the 50 days.
So the exchanges roughed up.
But very good day for the semis.
Good day for growth.
not all, and we'll park our carcass there until it says otherwise.
But we're just letting you know, it's narrow. It's narrow. And that's why we'll come on
the show and tell you, avoid this, here's your strength. Here's your strength, avoid this.
And of course, it's your money you get to decide. Gold miners act not well. Not well.
China, another rough day today. Not well. Commodities, they were kind of strong early. They faded at the end of the day. Up next, what else we got for you? This is the one only investors edge.
Hello, I'm Malcolm Gladwell, host of Smart Talks with IBM. I recently spoke with IBM's new director of research, Jake Embatta. We discussed his vision for the future of quantum computing.
research, what we always do is answer what is the future of computing, whether it's coming up with
new algorithms, coming up with better AI, coming up with quantum, or coming up with just how do
different accelerators go together. It's our DNA to answer the question of what is the future.
Isn't it a perfect problem for IBM because you kind of need to have a legacy of building stuff?
Yes.
Building actual physical machines.
Yeah, it's why I came to IBM. I wanted this.
experience the culture of building hard things that others have not done before.
Where do you imagine we are in the timeline of this technology?
There will come a point when it will mature.
My cell phone is a mature technology at this point.
How far are we from that point with Conton?
By 2029, we'll build the first fault-tolerant quantum computer.
That is one that can run a very, very large, large problem.

Well, the con job continues on climate change and global warming.
Let me tell you what I saw today.
I love these people.
They're the greatest.
Remember, they started with global cooling,
and they said if you didn't believe it was global cooling,
you are a non-believer, and you suck and all that stuff.
This was a long while ago.
Global cooling.
By the way, go look it up.
There's front cover articles from many years ago.
Well, guess what? The world heated up a little bit. They changed it to global warming. It's global warming. Global warming. It's global warming. Who said 17 years ago the ice is going to be gone? Oh, yeah, that's right. The multi-zillionaires like Al Gore and John Kerry, I digress. All of a sudden it started freezing. We had this unbelievable couple of years of freeze around the globe.
They got into a room, hey, you know, we're looking stupid here.
They hired an advertising agency and a marketing agency.
Oh, let's do climate change.
Let's do climate change.
So if it's hot, climate change.
If it's cold, climate change.
And every time there's something bad, we're going to blame it on climate change and call it extreme weather.
I watch one of these global warming turds on TV today
saying what you're seeing in the United States,
there's bad freezing weather and ice sheets and ice storms and snow.
That's your extreme climate change, and we must do something about it.
Yes, we must do something about it.
Yes, while John Kerry and Al Gore fly private jets
and in Davos
400 private jets
by all the mucky mucks
are flown in there to talk about how
we have to conserve, you know, us little
people have to conserve while
they're on their private jets.
Don't you love these people?
You know, some of them have called for global taxes,
a worldwide tax to pay for climate.
You know, they've called for that.
How would you like to pay taxes
to somebody in Geneva.
It's bad enough.
We're paying taxes to these in-grates in D.C.
So I just want to let you know what I saw today,
the great scam, the great con.
Just remember, the climate's always changing.
I'm in my 60s now.
I can tell you I saw extreme weather when I was eight.
I moved to North Miami Beach, Florida,
and within a week of moving from New York to Florida,
Brooklyn, a tornado came.
through my apartment building.
Extreme weather back then.
Then through the years we had Hurricane Andrew and Camille and all these extreme
weathers 40 years ago, 30 years ago, 20 years ago, 10 years ago, five years ago.
And I got news for you.
We'll continue to have extreme weather going forward every now and then in different areas
around the globe.
And there ain't nothing we can do about it.
We can't stop hurricanes, we can't stop tornadoes, we can't stop the cold or the heat.
But you know what we can do is things that I have been a big proponent of forever.
Let's just do everything we can about pollution.
And if we can put less gas into the environment, whatever you call it, you know, terrific.
But the rest of them that are trying to con us out of our hard-earned dollars, they can go screw.
They're tiresome.
John Kerry, I have to fly private jets because I'm working for the people.
That's what he's told us.
I'm working for you.
No, he couldn't go to London on British Airways or Virgin Atlantic, beautiful business class or first class.
No, private jet.
The governor of New York was just found out they spent 400,000 bucks on private jets.
a big proponent of climate change.
She has no problem flying private jets.
But Jimmy Carter used to fly commercial.
We respect that.
And by the way, Thursday is the national, I guess, funeral for Jimmy Carter.
So the market will be closed.
We will be playing the best of Gary because I'm taking the full day off.
Anyway, I thought I'd bring that up because every now and then it just bubbles up and pisses me off.
off. And remember, Janet Yellen said we needed a global tax. Janet Yellen says tax cuts are the enemy and the problem. These are these people. That's what we mean by dodging a bullet.
Mayorkas is now going to be gone. He's no longer head of Homeland Security for three years telling us the border was secure.
And of course, the media, those ingrates, do you remember when Trump on the border and they broke up families, they were, they ripped Trump 24,
You turn on the TV anytime CNN, MSNBC.
It didn't matter if it's 3 a.m. or 3 p.m.
Look what Trump did to the kids.
Do you know how many thousands of missing kids there are right now that came through the border
and the media does not report it?
Not a lick.
Because the media sucks.
They don't care about you.
They care about their side.
All they got to do is their job is just report the news without bias.
Nope, can't do that. Can't do that. But what about the missing kids? Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil. I move on. So last week we talked about don't worry about people telling you what's going to happen in 25, 200025. Got it right. We have no idea where the market's going to be at the end of 2025. We don't know what's going to lead. We don't know what's going to lag. We don't know. We don't know what's going to lag. We don't know.
If the leaders turn into laggards, laggards turn into leaders, maybe oil, which has been dead is going to be the biggest thing in 25, maybe small caps is going to be a biggest thing in 25 while the big mega caps die.
We don't know.
They don't know.
But what we will do, when earning season comes, I will report to you, this stock gapped up, blue way Wall Street estimates, expecting a dollar 50,
They did $3.4 billion in sales.
They did $2.8.
Their products are flying off the shelves.
Their services are in such demand.
People around the corner waiting for it.
That's how we're going to be reporting it.
And of course, then there's the other side.
The miseries.
And we've had some very big surprises in the last year.
Lulu Lemon.
Stock was blasted.
Acting better now, but the stock was blasted.
Alt of Salon, stock was blasted.
Surprise on the upside, Abercrombie and Fitch.
Anybody think Abercrombie and Fitch would have a big year?
Not me!
And we're just going to sit around and find those things,
busting out of range on big volume,
in groups that are acting well,
and try to ride them as far as we can, and it ain't easy.
It ain't easy.
What else today?
Bitcoin had a good day.
Didn't see any news, but had a good day.
day. Looks like it's kind of turning up in here. And the micro strategy, Coinbase, had a very good
day. Remember, those suckers are leveraged. And micro strategy on the way down went from $543 to,
you want no leverage? It was $285 at the close on December 31st. Close at 3.79 today.
You want to no leverage? 285 to 379.
they announced a lot more to buy a lot more of Bitcoin.
And speaking of that, I watched somebody on TV today.
No thought of Bitcoin going into a bear market in 2025.
No mention in the last bare market, it went down 75% and was at 2022.
And I believe he said Bitcoin is the next S&P 500.
I'm not making this up.
That guy would have last an interview with me.
What do you mean the next S&P 500?
There's no service, there's no product, there's no earnings, there's no sales.
The S&P 500 is made up of 500 companies from big to gargantuan that have product, services, employees, employees, offices, earning sales, guidance.
Oh, well.
But I had a good day today.
Up next.
What else in the markets?
We'll find it. I'm Gary. This is the one only investors' edge.
Hello, I'm Malcolm Gladwell, host of Smart Talks with IBM.

In the Gester's Edge with Gary Kaltba.
They certified Donald Trump today.
And I must tell you, when I talk about politicians, it's nothing personal,
except if they're a bunch of corrupt pieces of crap, like Biden.
But I must tell you that Kamala Harris today had to lead the certification.
she had announced that Donald Trump got, what, 310 or 312 electoral, and she only got two, whatever.
She announced that she lost to the world.
And I must tell you that she was being made fun of by a lot of the so-called MAGA people.
I thought it was, you know, I'm a humanitarian.
I guess and I felt I kind of felt for her and don't get me wrong I don't want her near the Oval
office nothing personal I kind of felt for her today kind of felt for her she did get through it a
little dig on Trump about January 6 from a few years ago she threw that in anyway
see ya Biden's doing everything he can to destroy the
country in those last two weeks. He gave medals to George Soros, who basically handed
bazillion dollars to all these cities to have district attorneys free criminals. So the
citizenry would be scared crapless. And George Soros got a medal. Piss me off. Hillary Clinton
got a medal. She got a medal. Oh, by the way, they gave her a standing ovation.
But if they really think about it, she was a terrible secretary of state.
She was a senator in New York, I'll give her that.
But I will applaud, they gave Denzel Washington one of the medals, who I think is just a grand man, very much with the boys and girls clubs of America.
He was a came out of there.
Michael J. Fox, who single-handle, well, I don't know single-handedly.
but has raised the bar on Parkinson's and all that and raised tons of money.
That's a good one.
Irvin Magic Johnson, who I got to interview in front of 500 people many years ago, was the greatest.
When I worked for Trading Markets.com, we had this Vegas convention, and they asked me to interview them.
So I got to sit with them for a half hour before the interview.
And then I did the interview as the greatest.
And he told me it was one of the best interviews he's ever done.
In case you don't know, Magic Johnson, by the way, if I was president,
I'd bring him, first thing I'd do is bring him in.
You know what he's done?
He's a massive amount of businesses in needed communities.
So Magic Johnson was there.
He got a medal and others that, that deserves.
the medal, but Joe Biden was
determined to throw a few in there.
Donors and things like that.
Whatever. Whatever.
Let me give you some timelines going forward.
Next week, we start
getting the big banks' earnings.
And then
thousands of earnings
reports that come through by the end of the month.
All the big ones,
mid-sized ones,
And again, what we do, we get up early, we leave late, and we go through them.
The most important thing for us is onefold.
What are the reactions?
Why?
We've seen good news sold off.
We've seen bad news bought up.
You never know what the market's thinking until you see what the market is thinking.
And we shall be ready.
we'll hope to find
the next big move
the next big name
typically you're going to find the big moves
in technology
of course you'll find the next big moves
to the downside in technology also
possibly some retail
you never know where it's going to come from
but we're going to be ready
we're also watching the initial
public offering market.
Why?
Ten years from now, the biggest moves are going to be some name from names you've never
heard of.
On another note, there was more ramming to the upside of no-sales stuff.
Today, it was the nuclear.
Nuclear.
Here's one with no sales that was up 20% today with a one point,
billion dollar market cap i'm not going to name them here's another one that was up 10% today
uh that has a 3.6 billion dollar market cap no sales here's another one with a six billion
dollar market cap no sales started out as a spack and you know what the spacks did once they topped
this one went from 16 down to two but is now up to 23 because it's nuclear
I don't understand.
Just know, and I think we're going to be doing a lot of this going forward,
just know if nothing changes for these no sales companies, in robotaxies, in nuclear, in quantum computing,
when the noise stops, there are no chairs to sit down, and they're all going to go back to where they came from.
But right now, they're still going.
and where they stop, I don't know.
We're never thrilled with over-the-top froth and speculation.
We'll let the market decide on that.
Just another narrow market.
By the way, advanced declines on the NASDAQ today were flat
with the NASDAQ up 243.
Keep that in mind.
The big stuff.
That all said, you have a great evening drive carefully.
I'm going to work out.
And when you get home, do like we do.
It's quite simple.
Make sure you hug your family.
Make sure you hug your children.
They will feel better.
You will feel better.
I promise stay well, be well.
Serenity now.
Good night, all.
Bye-bye.
