Now from the BizTalk Studios, here is Gary Cultbaum. And welcome once again to Investors Edge. I'm Gary Colpom, your host. A thanks of being with us today.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen. Happy that you are listening. It is Friday, November 17th, 2003. And I must tell you, I would not mind working seven days a week. That may sound crazy, but I don't consider what I do work. But I will tell you this weekend, I'm glad to have a weekend. It's one of those. I work very hard at this, by the way, and sometimes you just need some downtime. In case you didn't know, this is Investor's Edge, serious talk on you, then everything that
Starting point is 00:01:26 affects you and the markets and your money and your job and the economy. We throw a little comedy injected in there, but as of recent, very tough to throw any comedy into it because things are getting downright on the serious side. And I'm sure you know what I am talking about. The latest, and, you know, every now and then we'll get an email. Oh, you're talking about D.C. Talk about the markets. But when we're talking about D.C., they affect the markets.
Starting point is 00:02:05 oh, you're talking about Israel, we'll talk about the markets. Well, when you're talking about geopolitical crap, it affects the markets. Oh, you're talking about these people that are tearing down posters of the kidnap. What does that have to do with markets? Well, these are people that are in the workforce
Starting point is 00:02:23 or going to be in the workforce. Oh, you talk about the... Guess where the students are going to be eventually. And on and on. So really, everything intertwines. And of course, we do direct markets. That's our big segue. We've been covering them perfectly for you. I take that back. There's nothing ever perfect, but pretty darn well for you. When on November 1st, after being stay out, July to the end of October,
Starting point is 00:02:56 we said to you, it looks like we've confirmed the low and we'll see what we get from it. And so far, so good, the broad market. But then we all. also get a lot of emails from people wanting us to discuss this stuff because I am Mr. Logic. We tell the truth here. We pull no punches. And a lot of things we predicted, without a doubt, have come true on so many different levels. And I must tell you the latest. And it's so weird to say because a lot of these people that are talking about Osama bin Laden as a savior and a truth teller. And I'm thinking, wait a minute, it's 2023.
Starting point is 00:03:48 That's 22 years ago. And you want to give a little bit of room to these people. And then you say, wait a minute. You can't be that dense. You can't be that stupid. that a man who planned out 9-11, 3,000 people almost dead, and a lot more after who went and helped the cleanup, a man that beheads people as a sport,
Starting point is 00:04:24 that murders if you are gay or transgender, if you're just different, if you don't bow down to their Sharia law, you're dead. And they do it with gleeveh. And yet You got these people on video and I'm thinking to myself Who in God's hell?
Starting point is 00:04:51 Is there ever God's hell? Devil's hell Will ever hire one of these people How are they ever going to have a job When they're praising murder And terror as Hey, a necessary evil So I don't know what to tell you
Starting point is 00:05:11 I don't know And I think my best line has been How do you debate somebody Who tears down posters of kidnapped babies How do you debate somebody who says Hamas Is righteous How do you debate them?
Starting point is 00:05:32 You can't How do you try to convince them? I don't know That's where Tick-Tack-Toe comes in You can never win so why play the game but of course there are repercussions. I post something on my Twitter feed. You can go check.
Starting point is 00:05:51 A man and a woman are video taking down the posters, cursing a Jew, praising the murders, oh, and now please forgive me. The man lost his job. I don't know about the woman. Maybe she doesn't have it.
Starting point is 00:06:13 a job, I don't know. It's just amazing to watch. What's going on? It's a Wall Street banker. He's gone. He's done. He ain't ever getting a job on Wall Street again. Now says his actions were misguided and thoughtless after telling a Jewish American to go back to your country and some words I cannot use. But after taking time to contemplate and reflect on our recent actions, we want to send our sincerest apologies to the Jewish gentleman, we yelled that gesture to, oh, that wasn't a gesture. And said unkind things. Oh, you mean you should be murdered is unkind? So I don't really know where this takes us. We're just letting you know we're going to put our feet hard into the ground, work our tail off, espouse goodness and freedom. rip the stuffings out of the murderers.
Starting point is 00:07:25 And anybody who backs them in any way, and I don't care if there's 100, 1,000, 10,000 or 100,000 backing these murderers, we'll rip them all. And we don't care where they're from. It's all a lie. It's all a lie. The apartheid talk of Israel, the occupation talk of Israel, it's all a lie. Israel left 18 years ago when they realized they were playing tic-tac-toe and they couldn't win no matter what happens. They gave the keys and they let Hamas take over, steal every dime, murder people, create terror tunnels by ammunition and bombs and missiles in order to.
Starting point is 00:08:18 may murder, rape and all that. As I told you, the first time I was in Israel, we went to bomb shelters six times. The sixth time I said, screw it, ain't happening. I had missiles over my head. Imagine this. I had missiles over my head in Tel Aviv.
Starting point is 00:08:38 And I spoke to the Israelis about it. You know what they said? Yeah, it happens every now and then. What can we do? They have this thing called the Iron Dome that takes these missiles out. they didn't have that, I can't even imagine. But imagine if you live anywhere and missiles were being heaved over your head. That's what they've dealt with. And they let it go. You know what they would do
Starting point is 00:09:03 every time? And if it got bad? Oh, they'd send a few things in also. But this time, they went too far, Hamas. And I keep hearing, well, they did it on purpose to get the world against Israel. Well, I got news for you. The world isn't against Israel. It's a select group. of very loud people that go out there and do their thing while most of us going to live our lives, love, peace, honor. And if these people want to do it, have fun. You want to hate, have fun. You want to destroy. Have fun.
Starting point is 00:09:42 Don't go too far. Or you're going to be in a six by nine. And that's it. And again, we bring this up because, man, oh man, what makes Israel great. is what makes this country great are freedoms. Our freedoms. Do you know these people that are protesting against Israel and for Palestine or Hamas, if they did that in Iran, oh, they're going to be missing.
Starting point is 00:10:08 If they did it in China or Hong Kong, oh, they're gone. If they did it in Venezuela, see ya. Haiti? Go read up about Haiti. Nigeria? I can name all kinds of countries. You couldn't do that. Oh, by the way, Gaza.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Go into Gaza and wear one of those rainbow-colored L-B-G-T-Q shirts and see what happens to you. So when I tell you I'm amazed that I see people of the LGBTQ community praising them, you just, what do you do? You just throw up your hands and say, tick-tac-toe. Tick-tac-toe. Our country is great. Israel is great.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Freedom to be great. Up next, we'll put a bow on it. We'll hit the markets. Much more. I'm Gary. This is the one-only investors' edge. Hi, I'm Gary Kalpom, hosted a nationally syndicated radio show Investors Edge. We're not just handsome radio people.

Symptoms include buying microphones you don't need, explaining RSS feeds to confused relevant. and saying things like,
Starting point is 00:13:48 Sorry, I can't talk right now, I'm editing audio. If this sounds familiar, you're probably already a podcaster. The good news is Spreaker makes the whole process simple. You record your show, upload it once, and Spreaker distributes it everywhere people listen. Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and about a dozen apps your cousin's swears are the next big thing. Even better, Spreaker helps you monetize your show with ads, meaning your podcast might someday pay for, well, more microphones.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Start your show today. at spreeker.com. Sprinker, because if you're going to talk to yourself for an hour, you might as well publish it. It's time to switch on the integrator units and get the brain cells working. You're listening to. Hey, this promises to be fun. Investors Edge. The last bastion of quality programming.
Starting point is 00:14:40 With Gary Coltbaum. It doesn't get better than this. So, let me repeat again, we bring this up, is to make sure you. understand and let me be clear I'm so pissed off at the people running this country I can't even begin to tell you but even with these miscreants I read every day about success stories that's what I do I read every day and not it's not just the money part just success stories of people that started with nothing applied themselves had a great idea and became gargantuan, monstrous.
Starting point is 00:15:38 In all walks of life, in all walks of life. People that would start a restaurant and turn into a thousand. Somebody started Alta Salon, turned into a monster. How about these Kardashians? I mean, what the hell? I mean, wow. I've been reading up on this Kylie, Jenner that started this cosmetics and stuff.
Starting point is 00:16:08 I mean, she's, you couldn't do that in a lot of these countries. Hell no. Imposcibly. I read every day that somebody started a YouTube channel. Hey, I'm doing a YouTube channel because I am a great, great, great physical therapist. I'm a great athlete and I want to show you my workouts. I'm an 8-year-old kid that is going to play with toys. Oh, and we make 10 million bucks a year.
Starting point is 00:16:46 I'm going to start an eBay store. I'm going to open a nail salon down the street and it's done so well. I'm going to do another one three miles away. Oh, that does so well. I'm going to open a third. You can't do that now. many places around the globe. Try doing it in Gaza. You know what Hamas does? They're the goddies and the Gambinos. You can't keep anything. You're toast. But Israel, if by chance you
Starting point is 00:17:35 decide to go, get a good guide and let them drive you along the highways and the cities. And you will see every major corporation of every type of sector doing monstrous amounts of business there you'll see grade a plus buildings a metropolis you'll be seeing great great restaurants and history in many places you'll see clean streets beautiful beaches and people that are Peace-loving that wake up every day to do what, as we tell you? Work hard and do better for ourselves and our families. The young kids are taught to work hard in school, become educated, become smart, become great, become leaders. Hamas, you know what they teach you?
Starting point is 00:18:43 See, these Jews, kill them. you see this rifle let's practice it and because of all that every young man and woman in Israel goes into the military for a certain amount of time because Israel is on 24-7 defense because the bad people are on 24-7 offense and I know it firsthand I was there I've got the pictures. I have a picture of a missile being taken out over my head in the middle of day, fired from the bad people, taken out by the Iron Dome. Imagine that while the Israelis, while it was happening. Imagine that. So we're just letting you know, maybe we're a little bit preachy, but I just think there's a lot of jealousy of a great people. You know, Asians,
Starting point is 00:20:04 there's a lot of racism against Asians. I see it. What did they ever do here in the U.S. but come here and make something of themselves? So we're just letting you know our stance and why who we are. And if we ever get the miscreants out of our way in D.C. It'll be that much better. And you know who copied Israel? The United Arab Emirates. I was just there in Dubai. You know who copied Israel? Saudi Arabia. They all realized, holy crap, we've been fighting back and forth for years and we're watching what they're doing. We've got to start doing that. And you know what they did? They realized it. And that's how you end up with these peace deals. It's not for real love, but it's kind of for like and for partnerships.
Starting point is 00:21:07 That's why I'm in hopes with talking business here. China's 1.5 billion people, and all I keep hearing from our politicians is how we're mad at them and we've got to fight them. No, we've got to convince them. We've got to show their government with 350 million people in the largest economy in the world. and we can be great partners in growth. But you've got to meet us this way. We'll try and meet you that way. And of course, Biden, the stupid, calls him a dictator right after a meeting.
Starting point is 00:21:48 Of course he is a dictator, but there's a point in time where you shut up and see where you can go with it. So anyway, those are some of my thoughts. And this bin Laden thing, it's so weird because I live through that. I know it's, I know a ton of people that knew a ton of people that died in 9-11. I didn't. I didn't. I can't imagine. I know one guy that has his jacket and suit and tie and shoes and pants encased in a, whatever you want to call it,
Starting point is 00:22:37 because he got mowed down by everything falling on top of him. the dust and stuff. And a lot of these people would want to do it again. And again. And again. And these young pups are praising them. Let's hope they don't learn too late. All right, segue time.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Well, the indices didn't do much, but we'll have a bunch to say. Thanks for being here. This is the one only investors end. Guys, it's no use putting it off. The best time for an underwear refresh is now. Tommy John underwear is designed for a perfect fit that stays put all day. Starting point is 00:25:20 We're listening to. America is talking. Investors Edge. He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on its feet. Here, he's a Cinderella boy. With Gary Colbomb. It comes highly recommended.
Starting point is 00:25:37 You're going to feel better if you talk to him. All right. All right. All right. If you have a chance, go watch Albert Brooks Defending My Life. Documentary about him.
Starting point is 00:26:03 I think Rob Reiner from All in the Family was the director. Albert Brooks, to me, is one of the great, funny, underrated comedian actors over the last whatever that nobody knows about when you have a chance to check it out. Go ahead. All right. The Market Wrap today brought you by Investment-Models.com. That's Jim Rohrack. One of the great market timers.
Starting point is 00:26:29 No gray areas with the man you're either in or out of the market. With his proprietary indicates, just go check it out. Investment-dash-models.com. You ready? the Dow was up 1 no really that was it in the Dow Amcham was down 360 but American Express was up
Starting point is 00:26:47 350 Boeing's up 140 Chevron up 270 bounce in the oils finally Caterpillar up 480 Goldman Sachs up 250 JP Morgan up a doll 30 but Microsoft down 6 and change because they have
Starting point is 00:27:03 the thing with chat GPT and they own I got to check the ownership whatever the CEO gone and the stock was a little bit weak all day finished down six point three six dollars and thirty two cents it was down nine and change came back in the end i don't think that's going to change too much uh Nike and Procter & Gamble buck and change United Health three and change there's your one point the S&P up six NASDAQ 11 NASDAQ 100 up for the transports up 118 and the Russell 2000 was up the
Starting point is 00:27:38 equivalent of 400 and something down points So yesterday the Russell really underperforms, today it really outperforms. And what you simply have in the best way I can explain this to you. Again, on November 1st, the bottom lifted up. For months, we were saying to you the following words. Approximately 80% of stocks are in downtrends in all kinds of areas. and we would list the airlines, the cruise lines, the truckers, the rails, the economically sensitive, the consumer staples, a ton of the retail, the medicals, the list goes on and on.
Starting point is 00:28:22 Well, for the record, a lot of them are still not in uptrends, but most all are off the lows. They're bouncing, some better than others. We explained to you that the housing stocks look like they were. were the first to go from down trends to up trends, and that is the case. Actually, some stocks are at new yearly highs. Most everything else is what we call recovery mode. Oh, by the way, the financials are in that also. And what we've had is some V-shape type moves in some of the names, where that last leg down,
Starting point is 00:29:04 that lasted 11 days, got it all back now. though still way off the July highs. The reason why is simplistic. We've been harping on it both up and down. You need to know this and that's oil prices and yields down. Markets better, especially the yields and the dollar. In order, it would be yields, dollar, oil. The dollar will weaken as our interest rates go down. That's how it works. You can go look up
Starting point is 00:29:48 why. And that's the story. The cost of capital down, the cost of energy down. Markets go up. How long this lasts? I don't know. How far it goes. I do not know. Everybody keeps talking central bank and what's Jay Powell going to do. I can just tell you he's at five and a half, the ten years at 4-4. He can lower rates right now. I don't think he's going to. And he really doesn't matter at this juncture. He's an imp. I heard yesterday somebody say, do you think J-Pow can engineer herself landing? Oh, really? You mean J-Powl, one man, moves the economy, not 150 million of us that work our ass off every day? It's so stupid to listen to some of the things on Wall Street, ladies and gentlemen. Yeah, one man. Now, I'll give him the credit. When he printed to $9 trillion
Starting point is 00:30:50 with no oversight or accountability, oh, he had control. But now he's a land of nothingness. Let's just watch the free markets. It'll dictate a hell of a lot. And what our job will be, we'll just let you know what's leading, what's lagging, what's showing up, what's not. just like a few weeks ago we said we thought that oils were getting in trouble and boy they did they bounced today finally because they've had a big drop nothing ever goes straight down but leadership remains in big tech software not so big tech and a smattering of other stuff we're seeing some new yearly highs Ferrari symbol race it's a new yearly high i missed it do you know why it's a foreign stock and they gap it up and down every day it's a pain
Starting point is 00:31:40 in the rear to try and play because you never know when you wake up the next morning they gap it down but it's on its way that's a new yearly high i mentioned software the big cap tech and again a smattering and your job should be check out the new yearly high list every day and go see what's there what it looks like and some things are at new yearly highs with the crappiest of numbers we don't get it Ryder. Earning's last three quarters, down 22, down 19, down 20, sales down. Stock's near new yearly highs. Go figure.
Starting point is 00:32:24 Markets looking at something better. Okay, fine. They better get better. And then we have reaction to earnings. Let me give you two today. Gap. The gap! Guess what?
Starting point is 00:32:38 They came out with earnings today. It's up 30%. Earnings were down 17%. Revenues were down 17%. percent again beats the hell out of me why we just let the market dictate and raw stores discounter retail into new highs their earnings are pretty good their revenue growth was 8 percent that's the Ross dress for less I get my Scooby-Doo socks there when Tj X doesn't have them I'm quite the Scooby-Doo fan some housing stocks new yearly highs why
Starting point is 00:33:17 guess when the housing stocks topped out oh when interest rates bottomed guess when housing stocks started moving when interest rates topped direct correlation and these are the things we follow these are the things we watch and we also know it's a moving target we know this and if oil prices go up markedly again and interest rates go up markedly again and interest rates go up markedly again, 5% and even higher, the market's going to pay a stiff penalty. But so far, so good. And on a day with a Dow was only up one, advance declines on the New York, 28 to 10, and 28 to 13 on the NASDAQ. That's good stuff. We'll take that, even if they're small moves. Remember, the Dow pales in comparison. that advanced declines in the market and the average stock.
Starting point is 00:34:25 The Dow was just 30 stocks. The market was a hell of a lot better today than the indices. And that's what you want to see. And it's the opposite of what we were seeing in July. And our job is to read these identifying marks and stay in gear with them. and when wrong be wrong fast and wrong small and when right try to let them run which is the toughest thing to do
Starting point is 00:34:56 we even told you we sold some S&Ps a week ago a little more than a week ago we bought them back higher a little too trig were happy but we made money you know we never have had to tell you oh we took a 15% loss
Starting point is 00:35:19 oh we took a 20% loss oh we took a 30% loss have you ever heard that from us? Have you even heard us say we've taken a 10% loss on anything? Nope. You know why? We just don't let that happen. And if it ever did happen, it would be because it would be a surprise overnight. We're some news driven so-and-so. That's how crazy we are about the downside. Since we're so specific on where we buy on the upside, we're doubly specific on the downside. And that's how we roll. Up next.
Starting point is 00:35:59 This, that, and the other thing, and whatever else. This is the one only investors end. Guys, it's no use putting it off. The best time for an underwear refresh is now. Starting point is 00:38:45 Next week is Thanksgiving. We're off Thursday, and I've never understood this. The market's open to one piece. on Friday. Why do that? Why even to be open for a half day? Shouldn't just shut for the day, make it two days? But no! You know what else we should have a day off? I've always thought about this, the day after the Super Bowl. I've always thought that. We should have that day off. Call me crazy. That'd be a good day. Day after the Super Bowl. And no, I'm not for four-day work weeks. don't understand that at all. You know, the UAW was trying to negotiate four-day workweeks, which is
Starting point is 00:39:35 never going to happen. They were just trying to negotiate crazy and get something better. Why would anybody want to work less when others are working more? Somebody would have to explain that to me. The world is quite competitive. Yeah, I'll work four days, you work five days. We'll be fine. Would you like to make a wager? So just letting you know names like CrowdStrike, Amazon, Facebook. Would have said Microsoft, but it's down a little bit today on that news, and we'll see how it goes Monday. Synopsis, Z scale, data dog. Some of them may not have heard of. Better action in Blackstone, Black Rock, Bank America. They're just recovered. But when I go to the New Yearly High list, that's where I'm looking.
Starting point is 00:40:48 I want to know why something's there. And it's usually because something good is going on. That's your place. It doesn't mean it's going to work, but that's the place. And as I go through it, I see Intel, Intel, Draft Kings, they're bookie, Micron Tech, raw stores, Expedia, Pac-Car, Broadcom, Seagate, Z-scale, Nettees, Ryanair, airline out of Ireland, on the New York, GE, Palantir, Gap, IBM, Visa, almost there, American Eagle Outfitters. William Sonoma, there's another one, William Sonoma, announces earnings.
Starting point is 00:41:43 Well, let me give you sales, down 15% year old. over year. The stock closed at 162 before earnings came out. In two days, it's 178. On a 15% drop in sales, again, we don't make up the rules. We just follow the bouncing ball. So there are names finally. We don't know if it's going to last, but the more that shows up, the better. If more good advance the client days, the better. If pullbacks are quiet, the better. If rallies are on heavy volume, the better. If you buy a stock and it goes up, the better. Just remember what bullish markets are about versus bearish. You buy a stock and it goes up or you buy a stock and it goes down. How's that for simplicity? In the news, let's talk cities.
Starting point is 00:42:54 Yay. Seattle, another city we've complained about because of the insanity of the leaders. It's amazing. Just the insanity of the leaders. Voters are getting it finally. This is good news. They're replacing three anti-cop members of the city council. Now, why would they do that?
Starting point is 00:43:17 There's too much crime! And everybody's, you commit crimes, you just let now. No bail? Yeah, do it again. Do it a third time. Do it a fourth time. Do it a fifth time. So good to see. And I'm seeing that in a couple of cities now. The people have finally realized enough's enough. There is absolutely nothing good about letting criminals out. And remember, most criminals are wimps.
Starting point is 00:43:47 If they know they're going to be in real big trouble, they may not do it. if they know they're going to get away with it, oh, they'll do it. And it's quite the interesting how a lot of the cities with the most crimes are the ones with the easiest policy. Duh! In the news, you know, Wall Street Journal, they don't interview me. They've never called on me. They don't ask me for quotes. But they did a whole big article on Kathy Wood from the ARC funds.
Starting point is 00:44:26 Kathy Wood is a message for investors. You're worried about the wrong thing. She's down 75% in two and a half years. And they're doing a whole article on her. And a question and answer interview article with somebody down 75%. Somebody's got to help me with that. By the way, her fund closed at $43.70. cents. It hit a high of 15970. In February of 21, we're almost three years. And this is off the lows of recent, but I don't get an interview. And again, we don't take any joy in this, and we don't take on anybody in the industry really accept her at this juncture because we get 50 emails a week on her. Do you think now's time? Do you think now?
Starting point is 00:45:37 Anyway, welcome to my world where failure is celebrated too often. The good news is success is also celebrated. And those are the people we follow most. We're certainly not going to follow somebody who says, we expect Bitcoin to go to 1.5. Our high number is 1.3 million in 2030. Six years go from 30,000 to 1.3 million. 40 times.
Starting point is 00:46:07 You get where I'm coming from. Anyway, you'll have a great weekend, drive carefully. And when you get home to you like we do, quite simple. Make sure you hug your family. Make sure you hug your children. They will feel better. You will feel better. I promise until Monday.
