Starting point is 00:00:33 Investor's Edge with Gary Coltbaum. Straight talk about you and your money. Now from the BizTalk Studios, here is Gary Cultbaum. And welcome once again to Investors Edge. I'm Gary Colpom. I'm your host. A thanks of being with us today. Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen, happy that you are listening.
Starting point is 00:00:51 It is Wednesday, April 26, 2023. And we have lots to cover. Oh, we have lots of. to cover. You know, ladies and gentlemen, when we say to you, we are the greatest technicians on earth, the best eyes in the business, when we tell you that there is nobody better than deciphering tops and bare markets, some of it's a little just sarcasm, you know, when you say how good you are, but we pretty much mean it with that damn good. And it's not happenstance.
Starting point is 00:01:47 We work our butts off. Now, when we say we, it's I. And there's a group of us around the country, a couple of people across the pond, that basically work as hard as I do, have a good feel for things, and we bounce off each other. but when all is said and done, I trust my own eyes.
Starting point is 00:02:17 And of course, there's nothing full proof. But how do you make things as close as full proof as possible? How do you do that? Well, when wrong, when something doesn't work, be wrong fast, be wrong small. when right, do your darnest to try and let them run. We're talking markets here. And of course, there's so many other factors that we have learned throughout the years that we go over on a daily basis with you about understanding the Fed and valuations
Starting point is 00:03:00 and bubbles. And the list goes on and on of that stuff. But when all is said and done, and we mean this, in 2021, we called the bubble top, we called the middle of the year top, we called the November top, little did we know, we called tops in the bond market, little did we know, and on and on and on. And on. We did it in 2008. That one was a little bit different in that the financials for months
Starting point is 00:04:03 were woefully underperforming the markets and we had no idea what was to come but the market was pretty damn smart and you know what happened at the end of the road. When you have a chance
Starting point is 00:04:21 just go through 2007 and go through all the financials versus the market. We remember there was a point where they started gagging, and then the Dow rallied a thousand points. And instead of rallying with them, they drifted a little bit higher. And then the Dow topped, and they led the market down. And then over time, all hell broke loose. And again, we didn't know all hell would be.
Starting point is 00:04:53 break loose at all. We just knew there was something wrong. And then little by little piece by piece, inch by inch, the bear market came. Everything dropped 56%. The financial system was coming undone. And then we got ground zero, Ben Bernanke that started this freaking nightmare are printed money and bubbles and all kinds of crazy stuff which brought us to j pal which brings us to this bear market as we said in 2021 and recently we had a low in october and we've drifted higher but the s andp is sitting where it was 11 months ago and that's off the highs by a decent amount the nasda way down. I think the NASDAQ is still down 25% from the high. The Russell 2000, I think even worse. And then recently, we've been calling out some warning shots for you. Not on what people
Starting point is 00:06:23 tell us, not on what people think, but by our hard work. About two months ago, we said to you, we think within 90 days we're going to start seeing trouble in the employment business jobs this did not come out of thin air it's reading roadmaps getting a feel for our own little channel checks two days before the banks crashed we said to you on this show. We don't like how the banks are acting here. Something's up. We had no idea what was going to happen. No idea. Heck, not an inkling. Just that we thought they were topping out and then all hell broke loose. And as of recent, some better, some not so good. We mentioned yesterday some of the regional banks are at New Yearly Lows again. And that First Republic
Starting point is 00:07:37 Bank is just gagging big time again. But something else got to us. in the last few days. Besides the fact, just besides the fact, that even while we have rallied up, we have highlighted few areas, as we have said, to avoid.
Starting point is 00:08:05 They're in their own bearish phases while other things were doing well. We've highlighted at any numbers of times the commodities, oils, defense stocks for a time, retail most of the time, airlines, cruise lines, truckers, rails, pretty good list, economically sensitive, but we've had some rallies, nothing special, and then drops, and drifts, and then drops, to the point where the last few weeks
Starting point is 00:08:53 the indices, the big indices, are just sitting, up, down, up, down, up down, but sitting. While the small cap and the mid-cap indices woefully underperform. While that was going on, we also warned you about, guess what? We warned you about China stocks. We warned you about China, and they're gagging. The China stocks are gagging. and then we walked into this week and we walk into today and the best we can describe it is just jello moving all over the plate we've also warned about how seven stocks 51 percent
Starting point is 00:09:58 seven stocks 51 percent of the nasdaq 100 in the 20s of the s and how they better keep rallying them brings us to the recent and our worries. And yesterday and today and today and earnings reports and everything else under the sun that is of note. So we got a lot to discuss today individually and overall. We hope you are listening carefully as wow. Some things really good, a lot of things really bad. That's up next.

Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. In this episode, we are diving into gut health with CVS pharmacist Victoria Motola, who explains why so many of us live with stomach issues we should not. not accept as normal. A lot of what I see is just like chronic bloating, chronic stomach aches. Like I get a stomachache every time that I eat.
Starting point is 00:13:07 And it just becomes like a lifestyle where, oh, yeah, you know, I just, I have a stomach ache every day. Or I'm constantly feeling like gassy. And all of those things are not something that generally, if you have a healthy gut, you should be living with. So that's when we deep dive. We deep dive into your medication. We deep dive into your OTC medication.
Starting point is 00:13:25 And then at that point, we can probably identify. something that we can change. Hear the full conversation, plus some fascinating facts about how gut health affects so much more than just your stomach on Beyond the Script, a podcast from CVS Pharmacy and IHeartRadio. Listen now wherever you get your podcasts. This is Sarah Spain from Good Game with Sarah Spain, brought to you in part by Vital Farms. Let's talk eggs. Vital Farms pasture raised eggs, to be exact. My favorites, the only kind I've got in my fridge. No joke. And here's why. These aren't your average eggs. The hens live on open pastures with fresh air and sunshine all year long. They forage on local grasses and stretch their wings. They're living their
Starting point is 00:14:07 best life. That care really shows in the taste. I love mine scrambled with a little butter or whipped up into a fancy frittata. And here's something most people don't know. You can trace your eggs back to the farm they came from. Seriously, side of the carton, you'll find the farm name. Type it in at vital farms.com slash farm, and you'll get a 360-degree peak at the pasture. Plus, Vital Farms is a certified B corporation, which means they're committed to improving the lives of people, animals, and the planet through food. Eggs you could feel good about. So next time you're in the store, look for the black carton in the egg aisle and visit vital farms.com to learn more. Vital farms. Good eggs. No shortcuts. It's time to switch on the integrator units and get the brain
Starting point is 00:14:51 cells working. You're listening to. Hey, this promises to be fun. Investors Edge. The last bastion of quality programming with Gary Coltbaum it doesn't get better than this so of note as of the last couple of weeks what have we noted new yearly lows were outdoing new yearly highs on a daily basis even on
Starting point is 00:15:27 up days advanced the clients specifically on the NASDAQ were approaching new yearly lows while the NASDAQ indices have been pretty darn good. I take that back. Better. Indicating seven names.
Starting point is 00:15:51 You can add a couple more, nine maybe. And that includes today. So let's do today first backtrack, give you our thoughts overall, and we go from there. Today's market wrap is brought you buy Investment-Dashmodels.com. That's Jim Roarback, one of the great market timers.
Starting point is 00:16:18 No gray areas with the man you're either in or out of the market with his proprietary indicators. Go check it out. Investment-mottles.com. Well, yesterday, the Dow closed it, excuse me, the day before 33, 875 closed at 30. We were down 345 points yesterday on the Dow. not good down another 229 points today not good but that is inclusive of a hundred and thirty-five Dow points to the upside on Microsoft which had a very strong day today now we believe everything counts Microsoft was up seven to a quarter percent today so while the down
Starting point is 00:17:21 was down 228 the NASDAQ was up 55 the NASDAQ 100 was up 81 pretty much Microsoft S&P down 15 the SOX today up 16 but some of the other stories of this new yearly highs on the New York 35, new yearly lows 106? New yearly highs on the NASDAQ 55, new yearly lows 370? Whoa. And by the way, when we say new yearly highs, as I just said, there were 90 on those two main indices that we follow. Of that 90, I can promise you, as I'm looking at the NASDAQ, I think 35,
Starting point is 00:18:31 on the NASDAQ are non-operating companies or SPACs that just sit at 10 bucks and don't move. And on the New York, a lot of that also. I would say out of that 90, there may be 25 to 30 new highs in the whole market. 476 new yearly lows, New York and NASDAQ. But bigger story, the transatl. which was down yesterday. A juicy, I'm going to give you the exact number, closed at 14-464 the day before,
Starting point is 00:19:18 524 points yesterday was down 496 today. The transports are down 1,000 points in two days. What does that tell you? Because it's not just the transports. It's all these other areas we've been warning you about. Economically sensitive, financials, insurance, rails truckers, the caterpillar deer, I can continue. The China areas. And we also noticed today, you know, the hotel stocks were edging back above the 50-day moving average.
Starting point is 00:20:19 It doesn't mean anything except maybe tired going down. They slam the hotels today. Travel-related. Economics. Job market. Economy. All masked today with Microsoft. Which, by the way, lifted up.
Starting point is 00:20:44 A few other things. Not everything. Oh, and by the way, Chipotle was up 230. Holy crap. God bless that company. God is doing things right. They are the, what I would call the chick-fil-A of burritos. Because, man, Chick-fil-A, talk about doing things right. That's an amazing story. Chick-fil-A.
Starting point is 00:21:17 So we're just letting you know, notwithstanding. Notwithstanding. earnings reports and we got a few in the aftermarket sum up some down a couple important ones up man this market's been a deteriorating oh did I mention the semis
Starting point is 00:21:39 that cracked the 50 day pretty damn good with a bunch of names leading down economically sensitive so Tesla one of the seven names did not act well Netflix not one of those seven names but kind of sort of one of those big names down some but no harm.
Starting point is 00:22:07 Microsoft strong as all hell. Facebook after the close, it's up 19 bucks. Not near as much as Microsoft. I take that back. 19 on 200. It's about 5.5%. The initial reaction. So you know what's happening in the aftermarket again today?
Starting point is 00:22:31 the NASDAQ 100's up. So there's two names, but is that going to be enough to carry the day? Microsoft had a chance today. You know, in bull markets, a big Microsoft day carries everything. The market gave it the middle finger today. So just letting you know, under the surface, ugh. I wish I own Microsoft, I don't. Wish I own Chipotle.
Starting point is 00:23:12 I don't. may have to catch it. I wish I own Facebook now, even though their earnings, by the way, their earnings came in way below last year, but above estimates. Up next, we'll continue. Other thoughts?
Starting point is 00:23:30 I'm Gary. This is the one only investor's edge. Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. In this episode, we are diving into gut health with CVS pharmacist Victoria Motola,
Starting point is 00:24:08 who explains why so many of us live with stomach issues we should not accept as normal. A lot of what I see is just like chronic bloating, chronic stomach aches. Like I get a stomach ache every time that I eat. And it just becomes like a lifestyle where, oh, yeah, you know, I just have a stomachache every day. Or I'm constantly feeling like gassy. And all of those things are not something. that generally if you have a healthy gut, you should be living with. So that's when we deep dive. We deep dive into your medication. We deep dive into your OTC medication. And then at that point,
Starting point is 00:24:41 we can probably identify something that we can change. Hear the full conversation, plus some fascinating facts about how gut health affects so much more than just your stomach on Beyond the script, a podcast from CVS Pharmacy and IHeart Radio. Listen now wherever you get your podcasts. Allergy season always has a way of sneaking up on you when you least expect it. One minute you're listening to your favorite podcast. You're locked in, hanging on every word when, bam! A surprise bonus episode drops. Brought to you by allergies.
Starting point is 00:25:17 The itchy, watery eyes hit non-stop sneezing kicks in, and a runny nose forces you to hit paws. Suddenly everything is a trigger, the flowers, the breeze. It feels like even the trees are out to get you. Luckily, Kleenex Ultrasoft tissues have you covered. They're allergist approved and silky soft to help prevent skin irritation so you can stay comfortable all season long. Don't let allergies put your life on pause, especially not when you finally got your cue exactly where you want it. Be prepared with Kleenex ultra soft tissues.
Starting point is 00:25:48 For whatever happens next, grab Kleenex. Add them to your cart today. This is Sarah Spain from Good Game with Sarah Spain, brought to you in part by Vital Farms. Let's talk eggs. Vital Farm's pasture-raised eggs, to be exact. My favorites, the only kind I've got in my fridge. No joke. And here's why.
Starting point is 00:26:06 These aren't your average eggs. The hens live on open pastures with fresh air and sunshine all year long. They forage on local grasses and stretch their wings. They're living their best life. That care really shows in the taste. I love mine scrambled with a little butter or whipped up into a fancy frittata. And here's something most people don't know. You can trace your eggs back to the farm they came from.
Starting point is 00:26:26 Seriously, side of the carton you'll find the farm name. Type it in at vitalfarms.com slash farm, and you'll get a 360-degree peak at the pasture. Plus, Vital Farms is a certified bee corporation, which means they're committed to improving the lives of people, animals, and the planet through food. Eggs you could feel good about. So next time you're in the store, look for the black carton in the egg aisle, and visit VitalFarms.com to learn more. Vital Farms.
Starting point is 00:26:51 Good eggs. No shortcuts. with that the crowd is just on his feet here he's a Cinderella boy with Gary Colbomb comes highly recommended you're gonna feel better if you talk to him so Facebook did $2.20 a share 25 cents better than estimates but versus 275 last year but they guided not bad they actually raised guidance on revenues a little bit so I guess firing a lot of people is helped. By the way, I don't say that as a pejorative. Companies have to do that every now and then. It's part of the business. You recognize where you're at, and guess what you've got
Starting point is 00:27:58 to do? Companies always have to change based on what's happening to them or in the industry. I get that. So just letting you know the good news, Microsoft, the good news after the close, Facebook meta. For the day now, the NASDAQ 100's up 1%. That includes the aftermarket. So meta, these big names, is helping a little bit on the aftermarket. Facebook. Very good comeback for that. stock and left to next or Amazon Apple and video Google reported Google was down 15 cents today
Starting point is 00:28:56 nothing happened there so non-event maybe tomorrow's a better day and visa reported that's an important name at one time today was up about three and a half bucks closed down a buck 44 so that's not event also so we're getting past a lot of the biggies and we can safely tell you some of the biggies doing great some of the biggies huge influence has not been enough to save the transports energy they're breaking down defense stocks today a lot of the big cap biotech economically sensitive transports of all stripes. Old Dominion was down 34 bucks today,
Starting point is 00:29:54 the 305, and that's a good company. Retail, commodities, economically sensitive stuff, financials slash insurance, investment banks, and all that. If they had gotten
Starting point is 00:30:15 Microsoft and now Facebook, that could have been big trouble. But the good news is that'll keep indices afloat. those two. And of course, if Apple gaps up and Amazon gaps up, the better. Those are two or left. And Vidi doesn't report for, I think, a few weeks. And we'll see what happens. And by the way, Apple and Amazon, just to give you an idea on something, and it's quite telling, NDX makeup, Apple is 12.7% of the NASDAQ, 100, Microsoft 12.4%.
Starting point is 00:30:59 Facebook is only 3.6, but one of the seven. Tesla, Facebook, Google, the two classes, NVIDIA, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple. Tesla, not so good, but not crippling anything from earnings report, even though it's weak. Google, not event, not hurting. though. Nvidia not yet. Microsoft strong. Facebook now strong while they crush the transports. So stay tuned. We'll stay on top of it. And let me state for the record, it ain't easy.
Starting point is 00:31:42 Markets are not easy. But I'll tell you what we're easy for us. We know how to stay out of bad. We know how to stay out of the trouble. Bear markets. You can't hide them. You can't hide the good stuff either. So good on Facebook. Beat the number. Still way down, but little better guidance. More importantly, reaction. Closed it 209.40.
Starting point is 00:32:16 I got it 228. And Microsoft finished up today. $20.37 for a mega cap name. That is amazing. I think the high today was up 23 in change. And by the way, but there's still a problem with Microsoft. Microsoft. Earnings up 10 revenues up 7. And in case you don't know, it's got a 30 price
Starting point is 00:32:44 earnings multiple. The last four quarters were plus three, plus four, minus six, plus 10. They're going to have to continue accelerating. We're all for it. Big capness, kids. That's the name of the game. Big over small. And as we've told you, we wouldn't go near the small anytime somebody transfers into small caps to me see you i get some small cap ets transferred them good night they'll have their day in the sun once once again eventually ain't happening yet and then there's chipotle i don't know what to tell you earnings up 84 revenues up 17 a breakaway gap to the upside to an all-time high wow i could not it was acting better before earnings, I could not buy it because we're right before earnings. Great gap today.
Starting point is 00:33:45 We'll see what comes of it. In a bull market, I am buying the breakaway gaps. I did not buy that today. Why? Most gaps have failed. I'd like to see evidence that gaps are not going to fail. Here's one. We'll see if there's any others going forward. But as I speak on the other end of the spectrum and it's amazing. I got symbol P.I. Semiconductor stock. It's been strong. It's called impinge.
Starting point is 00:34:29 It closed at 135. I got it at 108 in the aftermarket. And that's what we mean by earnings roulette. And that's why we don't play before earnings. Stunning. Rallies and drops. P. I go bye-bye. Hope you didn't own it. And that's kind of sort of.
Starting point is 00:35:00 Markets in a nutshell, kids. Mega caps. Apple and Amazon up next. It's going to be an interesting next week. But what has me is dang. Those transports, they matter big time. Hope you are listening. Hope you don't own any.
Starting point is 00:35:46 And again, you know what we think. think on the economy. N-phase down 56 bucks today, which caused Solar Edge to be down $32 today. But Microsoft up 20 today, which caused MDB to be up 25 today. That's what we mean by Jello moving on the plate. That's our day.
Starting point is 00:36:21 That's our story. And then we have a lot of news of the day. It's going to get interesting. UPS and now Old Dominion Freight. They matter. And now the rails and truckers at all. And that was on top of the airlines. Yields up today, dollar down, plunging oil prices.
Starting point is 00:37:06 Remember, OPEC? Oil prices gaped up. Coming all the way back down. Up next, news of the day. day, much more. This is the one only investor's edge. Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. Starting point is 00:41:01 No short com. Huts. And welcome once again to Investors Edge. In the news. First off, you know what I was thinking about today? You know, a vote for Joe Biden for another four years is a vote for Kamala Harris. Kamala Harris You know that, right?
Starting point is 00:41:51 And all I was thinking to myself today, because I live in central Florida, they chose Kamala Harris over Val Demings. And I'm not saying that because they're both black women. I'm saying it because I know they were considering Val Demings for vice president.
Starting point is 00:42:11 Val Demings is for lay mignon. Kamala Harris is spam. Nothing against spam. I know Hawaii loves it. She has performed F-minus. Her speeches, terrible. She was supposed to be the immigration czar. Have you seen her interviews and speeches? A 12-year-old Gary would have done better speeches.
Starting point is 00:42:49 And they had Val Demings. this magnificent woman with an unbelievable background police chief her husband another wonderful man mayor of Orange County used to be the sheriff
Starting point is 00:43:07 what were they thinking and I will guarantee you there are going to be some people that don't vote for him just for that reason unreal unreal dofessness that's all I can say
Starting point is 00:43:38 in the news I just got to keep covering some of this and you say oh it has nothing to do with money and markets but it really does San Francisco district attorney just dropped charges against a homeless person who repeatedly
Starting point is 00:43:57 bashed the city's ex-fire commissioner in the head with a metal crowbar there is also a video of it but they're going to prosecute the ex-fire commissioner because he had to use pepper spray on the guy. They're insane there. They're freaking insane.
Starting point is 00:44:24 He got informed that the district attorney, Brooke Jennings, has decided not to prosecute the guy with the crowbar, but prosecute the fire chief for spraying the homeless man with pepper spray. Even though the homeless guy had a crowbar, bar out and we're swinging it. And it's on video. Now one would think eventually this is going to get dropped. But these people are nuts.
Starting point is 00:44:52 What are they doing to these cities? You know, I told you, I have friends in Sanford. I have friends in L.A. I got peeps in Portland. They're emailing me all the time. And they're all saying the same thing. Speaking of that. You know what National Public Radio is, NPR?
Starting point is 00:45:18 I don't listen to it, not because I just don't. They bring on an author that says, and I'm not making this stuff up, how insane the world's going. And we ain't going to let it go insane here. You ready? That if you feel like you're overweight and you want to get thin, it's white supremacy, and it's traced back to slavery. No, this is not a joke. The argument is when slavery was abolished and African-American started gaining rights,
Starting point is 00:46:08 white supremacists sought to maintain old and inequalities by demonizing black bodies and glamorizing thinness. Yes, so if you're overweight, don't lose any weight because you're a white supremacist, according to this idiot.
