Now from the BizTalk Studios, here is Gary Cultbaum. And welcome once again to Investors Edge. I'm Gary Colbom, your host. A thanks of being with us today.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen, happy that you are listening. It's the 13th of February, 2025. Hope you're having a good day. And oh, we have plenty to talk about today. I hope you're listening very carefully. In case you don't know, this is serious talk on everything that affects you. We'll do markets, the economy, your job, your industry, the more looks in the C., in D.C., the new administration, the last administration, how much they sucked, and everything else that comes to mind.
Starting point is 00:01:20 And if you do not get this radio show in your city, we'll post it at garyk.com. We'll also post it on our Twitter feed, which is now X. And if you do that X, should. And if you'd like to email us, just be nice. Why? Because he's nice. You may disagree 100%. I may disagree with you 100%.
Starting point is 00:01:42 But I will respect the hell out of you for having an opinion. That's all. I'm good. Now, if you are a fan of Kanye West, excuse me, let me take that back. Adolf West, we got a problem. If you love Hamas, we have a problem. Otherwise, we're pretty much cool. Ladies and gentlemen, as you know, we do at the beginning of the show now, the Trump moment and the Doge moment.
Starting point is 00:02:15 And as you know, I am thrilled. There has been no loud of vote on this earth than moi on the asinine, assatan, AS11, handling of our tax dollars. And they're massively going into debt with no care. There's been no loud a voice telling you, oh, they're a bunch of corrupt people. There's a crap that they're funneling to their friends and their donors, the organizations and charities and this and that.
Starting point is 00:02:46 And I'd get emails from people. Oh, come on, Gary. You know the emails I get from people right now? Gary. So we're going to keep coming. We are so thrilled with the people. President Elon Musk, I can't begin to tell you. And every time one of these miscreants on the other side of the aisle curses them out, F-bombs them.
Starting point is 00:03:09 By the way, they've been F-bombing them. We're just loving it. And it tells us, A, either they're morons or B, they're part of the soup. So, without further ado, the Trump moment, as you know, we disagree with him on tariffs. We don't like tariffs, but he does have a point, hey, if they're tariffing us, why aren't we tariffing them? Shouldn't be for every action. There's an equal and opposite reaction. I think he's got a great point on that.
Starting point is 00:03:41 But I don't like what we call starting the fight. I guess that's the way to put it. Throw in the first punch. And we've been hearing a bunch of that. And I've been waiting and wondering what exactly is the president going to do. and you know what I realized today? He ain't doing squat. Just so you know, they had a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Oh, they put that off. Today it was supposed to be announced all these tariffs on all these other countries. They're putting them off. What do you mean they're putting them off? Well, all of a sudden, everything's April 1st now, if not after. So no tariffs. And if there's going to be some, I think they're going to be little darts. Little darts.
Starting point is 00:04:27 I don't think there's going to be 100%, 50%, 25%. I think there's going to be darts. That's what I think. So I'm not worried about the tariffs at this point in time. We'll let you know if that changes. The next part of the equation in the Trump moment, and we're loving it, let me read to you. Do you know who Lee Zeldon is?
Starting point is 00:04:52 Lee Zeldon is now the EPA, the environmental, Protection Agency Administrator. I believe he was a congressman before this. Don't quote me on that, but I'm pretty sure. Let me tell you what Lee Zeldon did today. This is fantastic. He canceled a 50 million. Remember what we've said to you?
Starting point is 00:05:18 Remember what we've said to you? We simplify things. Look around. Whatever city you're listening to, listening from. You got a homeless shelter that needs a little work, need some help, some homeless people that need a lift up. Need some help.
Starting point is 00:05:38 How about some children in need in your city? How about some streets being cleaned up or sidewalks fixed or roads and bridges? And streets fixed. Maybe some elderly need some help also. Right? Just in your city that you're listening from. And we've talked about $5 million here and there, and we've told you that these miscreants in D.C., they've turned the number $10 billion into a footnote.
Starting point is 00:06:10 We're not going to let me do that anymore. So Lee Zeldon today canceled a $50 million-dollar Biden-era environmental justice grant. What's a grant? Our tax dollars, that never get paid back, you know what went to? Something called the Climate Justice Alliance, which believes climate justice travels through a free Palestine. We just got $15 million of our tax dollars back.
Starting point is 00:06:43 We love that. And I bet if you go to the Climate Justice Alliance, I can't imagine who's running that joint. I'd like to know what kind of salary they would take in. Or how about the U.S. Department of Education? Just today. They found out there was a $4.6 million contract to coordinate Zoom and in-person meetings, to coordinate. What?
Starting point is 00:07:16 How about $3 million contract to write a report, $3 million to write a report that showed that prior reports were not utilized by schools? What do you need to thrill million, three million to write a report for a different report? How about this one? 1.4 million contract to physically observe mailing clerical operations. Talk about OPM and wasting our tax dollars, the free for all, an absolute free for all. Free for all. 405,000 at DHS for resilience, energy and sustainability management program support services. What the hell is that?
Starting point is 00:08:10 So we'll just keep reporting. I love these people. And just remember, you're going to get some miscreants going on TV like Samantha Power, who headed up USAID for a few years and saying, well, we're not even 1% of the budget. that's 50 billion bucks that they were spending are dollars and the shame of it and why they suck so bad is because that money does do good things but what they do on purpose is they throw the other stuff in let us just duck that in let's duck it in hey and we'll tell people look how much money we're sending to Africa for AIDS oh but we're going to duck in
Starting point is 00:08:59 this BS. And then nobody's ever going to say anything. Well, that's what they thought that nobody was going to say anything. So bless you, Elon Musk. Bless you, Doge. Well done, President Trump. And continue. And don't let the other side sway you. Let them curse you out. Let them kick you in the grapefruits, let them swat you down, just go ahead and cut the fat out of the government, make it efficient, make it effective, keep the things that work, get rid of the things that don't. If you have a job that 30 people are doing, all you need is to get rid of the 28, just like any other business would. I love it. And let me tell you why I love it, ladies and gentlemen, because it benefits you. It benefits me. It benefits our families when government is
Starting point is 00:10:06 actually working for us in ways that really do matter and people are not getting paid off off of government. They are going to find hundreds of billions of dollars of payoffs. I promise you. contracts of 50 million, 100 million where they're taking salaries of 10 and 12 and 14 million when they should be making 100 grand. Remember what we told you. At the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida, we got to count for every dime. And we make every dime count. Government should be the same way. Local, state, federal.
Starting point is 00:10:51 You know what else I like they're doing? let me tell you what else I like that they're doing they're transparent they're doing it out in the open the lefties are lying about that they're out in the open they're reporting this to us I can report it to you it's great up next I'm going to report something that may not be so great because they told us that's up next on this the one only investors edge Hi, I'm Gary Kalbaum, hosted a nationally syndicated radio show Investors Edge. Starting point is 00:14:28 It's time to switch on the integrator units and get the brain cells working. You're listening to. Hey, this promises to be for you. firm. Investors edge. The last bastion of quality programming with Gary called bomb. It doesn't get better than this. So they announced that Elon Musk company got a $400 million. Am I correct? Contract with the military for his trucks. You know those trucks they got. and everybody's complaining, oh, they're trying to do, da, and he's closely with the Trump, and now they're all of a sudden they're getting the,
Starting point is 00:15:20 you're right. That doesn't look good. Looks like a conflict, right? It was procured under Joe Biden. Now, I don't think it looks good, but it was procured under Joe Biden. and I'll tell you what Elon Musk has shown. You know how much he saves the space industry by having the rockets return back
Starting point is 00:15:48 versus reusable rockets. That's kind of amazing. Anyway, just reporting that to you. So that's out there also. And our job is just to report it to let you know and all that fun stuff. And that's a little bit of the Trump. that's a little bit of the doge
Starting point is 00:16:11 and we'll keep reporting I love it and when I see one again one of these miscreans well 5 million 10 million screw you it's our 5 million and 10 million oh I just found another one
Starting point is 00:16:27 the Department of Education terminated 89 contracts worth at 881 million one contractor was paid 1.5 million to observe mailing and clerical operations at a mail center the insanity is ending.
Starting point is 00:16:51 If I would have known better, I would have gone in government 25 years ago. I'd be worth 100 million bucks right now. By the way, the last thing on this, you know what I love? Some in the media as Elizabeth Warren's walking down the street. Hey, Elizabeth Warren, how are you worth 27 million bucks now? Where do you make all that money from on 180,000 salary? I love that. And by the way, if it's found that Republicans are involved, I could care less whether the Republican against Democrat.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Remember, we don't see R or D. But right now, it is the R's versus the D's on the size, scope, reach, spending debt and deficits of our government. Your government. And do not let them sway you about, oh, it's only $5 million. bucks, the budget's $7 trillion. Oh, thank you for telling me the budget's $7 trillion when it should be $5 trillion. We move on. So, listen carefully. I'm trying to explain this in a way. Yeah, I think I can do it in a way that really is understandable. You're in the Super Bowl and you turn the ball over seven times and you still win the game. That's the best way I can describe what we've seen over the last two, three weeks.
Starting point is 00:18:40 And what I mean by that is we've had some pretty nasty news that caused some pretty nasty shocks to the market on several occasions over the last three or four weeks. We had that AI thing of Bob that really cracked a bunch of AI stocks. and by the way, a lot of them remain cracked. Some of them come on pretty decently. We had that first tariff shock where we gap down big. We just had another one where we gaped to the downside big. But every time, look where your feet are right now on the floor. You can't go below your floor.
Starting point is 00:19:36 the market would hit that floor every time the bad news came out. And instead of going through the floor, it stopped going down and it would bounce off of it. In spite of getting hit with news, that was not so great. I got newsfea. Leading stocks and leading groups were smoked on that Monday. That first tariff shock, market was getting blasted and admitted. it took a change of Trump on the tariffs again. We'll wait and see what happens.
Starting point is 00:20:21 For that, the change. We've also had not good inflation numbers. Yesterday we had a very poor inflation number, and yields popped up, and the market held up. Today we had another inflation number, the PPI, the producer, index, that was not that friendly.
Starting point is 00:20:48 And yields went down more than they went up yesterday. Potentially bad news did not hurt the bond market over the two-day period. On top of the fact that today, Trump, we'll see you in April about tariffs. We'll let you know. What do you think a market that could not go down on bad news? news three times, ignores bad inflation news over a two-day period does today. Daup 342. And by the way, we're only talking about 1 to 2% on the indices, but sometimes they're
Starting point is 00:21:32 important 1 to 2%. Daupe 342, S&P up 63, NASDAQ 295, NASDAQ 100, 311. Transports have been dead anyhow, but they were up 78. The Sox is up 65. That's been dead. Advanced declines were pretty good. and all I can tell you now is two things. The NASDAQ, let's use the QQ, broke above 53382, which was the high of January 24th,
Starting point is 00:22:03 and now is a chance to go after the old high of 539 from December. The S&P will use the SPY. the old high was 610.78. We closed at 609.73. What do you think happens with institutions if these things break out of range, the big indices? You can answer the question yourself. By the way, the NASDAQ closed at 1994.
Starting point is 00:22:35 The old high was 2204. A percent. You have a little high in general. January of 2118, what do you think happens if these big indices break above that range, which by the way is about 10, 11 weeks of range now? You got it. Now there's never any guarantees on breakouts, but when indices do it, usually a better chance of success. Up next, we'll expound further. This is the one only investor's edge. It's no use putting it off.
Starting point is 00:23:30 The best time for an underwear refresh is now. Tommy John underwear is designed for a perfect fit that stays put all day. Starting point is 00:25:30 The crowd is just on his feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. With Gary Colbomb. It comes highly recommended. You're going to feel better if you talk to him. You know, I only saw Boston once in concert. That's a regret. You know what's great about Boston is that just different sound music.
Starting point is 00:26:08 The one thing I don't like about music today, so many sound so much the same. You know what I mean when I say that. And not to rip on whether they have good voices or not. But for me, I love the sound of Lady Gaga. It's a different voice. Adele, a different voice. But there are so many others that just,
Starting point is 00:26:34 they can all sing the same song and sound the same. Lady Gaga just has me. I don't know what to tell you. What a boy. She is good. She's not Rush. She's not, yes. She's not Genesis.
Starting point is 00:26:56 But man, oh man. Anyway, I was just, as Boston was playing a stick, I only saw them once. And I saw them with somebody. It was Boston and, I think, foreigner in their hands. heyday. Was Boston and foreigner? Boston and foreign? Maybe. I'm always asked what's the best
Starting point is 00:27:21 concert I've ever been to? Now, you know my favorite groups. It's like a tie with yes, Genesis and Rush, but I have to throw probably Genesis on top. Best concert I'd ever been to was Prince. Prince was the greatest freaking concert I've ever been to. That dude put on a show like you wouldn't believe.
Starting point is 00:27:48 Stunning. As a concert, just letting you know. And that is our music side of the day. Okay. So we're in earning season, very news driven. We just want to let you know a few things. The talk today was they are now looking at the Pentagon and defense. And in case you don't know, defense stocks have been in a big bare market, they got smoked again today. You got to remember businesses that make a lot of money off of government. By the way, that's not a rub, which is telling you fact. They're in the crosshairs. That was interesting that I heard today, and we've already heard it before, but really
Starting point is 00:28:38 big time today from the administration. and by the way, rightfully so, it is a truism. Notice the big word, that there have been audits of the Pentagon and they're like missing, like a trillion bucks worth of stuff or something to that effect. They haven't passed an audit. You know what they really should do? They should have me do the audit, just a plain person like me do it. They couldn't handle me.
Starting point is 00:29:11 the hospitals and managed cares and the Medicare Medicaid thing, I would not be wanting to invest too much. Contractors, government contractors, would not want to be in that business right now. And they have basically come out and stated, oh yeah, we are going after that. And again, we have nothing against government contractors. We're not rubbing and ripping on anybody. We're just letting you know about investing and areas of the market. And of course, right now it's a lot of talk, but so far, they have been following through on a lot of talk.
Starting point is 00:30:05 And you know how you know they're following through? The miseries on CNN and MSNBC, they have vain. popping out of their heads. Do you know Anderson Cooper called the Republican a dick on TV? Because he disagreed with Anderson. They're insane.
Starting point is 00:30:32 Imagine you finally have people in D.C. That want to make government work better for each and every one of you. And then you got these protesters. They don't even know what the hell they're protesting. It's like gays for Hamas or gays for Palestine. They don't even know what they're protesting that if they went there, they'd be stoned to death.
Starting point is 00:31:00 So I was watching some protests. What are you protesting? Oh, humana, homina, homina, homina, homina. They turn into Ralph Cramdom if you actually have to have a debate with them. So just letting you know there are areas of the market that you really got to think about how much government. And then there's the earnings reports. Today, trade desk down 40 bucks, 33%. That is not a fly-by-night company.
Starting point is 00:31:31 Hyatt hotels, down 10%. And it was worse during the day. How about Zebra Tech down 30 bucks, 8%. How about Pega Systems? That was at a high, down $21 or $2,000. I don't need to do others because on the other end, you got some good stuff. How about Moody's? They are a credit ratings, up 4% 22 bucks on the breakout.
Starting point is 00:32:09 How about App Lovin up 91 bucks today, though it was up like 130, but still a big 91. How about those brothers coffee, Dutch brothers? And by the way, we received a bunch of emails on Dutch Brothers coffee restaurants. The drive-ins, I didn't even know that. Got a few of them from the Arizona area telling me, yeah, they're very, very busy. Anyway, on their numbers, stock was up 29%. So we are in the midst of really, we're all over these earnings reports. and basically what we're looking for is accelerating earnings and sales.
Starting point is 00:32:50 And then there are things we don't understand. Deer opened up down 25 today. Then it was only down 3. Finished down 10. But it's still near highs. Earning's down 60. Revenue's down 30. And that was another deceleration.
Starting point is 00:33:09 So I don't know whether they are mining diamonds or whatever. But something about that stock the market likes in spite of horror, a horror show of earnings and sales. Normally, that would get smoked. But most importantly, the big indices have the potential to break out of range. They haven't yet, but certainly they look like they are ready. Notwithstanding some more earnings coming out, and I'm seeing a few coming out in the aftermarket. Not great. One's good.
Starting point is 00:33:47 Roku. I use Roku. That's up nicely in the aftermarket. I'm probably another loss because all they do is lose money. I'll have to look at it. But overall, even with so many areas the market acting poorly and we've gone through them, the big indices, Tesla bounce today, Netflix's another high,
Starting point is 00:34:14 Duolingo another high Apple and Nvidia were up decently today trying to retake the 50 day moving average which is vital by the way
Starting point is 00:34:24 by the way I had it here somewhere darn it Apple and Nvidia are 13% of the S&P 500 and 17%
Starting point is 00:34:43 of the NASDAQ 100 you want to know influence in the market? Watch Apple and Invidia. Dang. Advanced the clients today, good finish.
Starting point is 00:35:00 Good reactions to crocs. Stock has been blasted. 165 down to 80. Was I quote today. Numbers not good, but maybe the worst is wrung out.
Starting point is 00:35:15 earnings were down two and revenues are only up three, but still up 23%. I've never owned Crocs. I don't like Crocs. I don't like the way they feel. I've tried them on. But I know people that live by it. Good day for Crocs. And as we get through earnings season, we put the gaps to the upside front and center. Anything that's been strong that gaps down goes by-bye. Trade desk, data dog today.
Starting point is 00:35:52 Both of them. Yacht. Reddit. That was only down 12 bucks. Zebra down 30. Up next. What else we got? This, that, and the other thing.
Starting point is 00:36:05 This is the one only investors edge. It's no use putting it off. The best time for an underwear refresh is now. Starting point is 00:38:19 What are we waiting for? Well, what are you waiting for? One, two, ready, go. Action! In the Gester's Edge. With Gary Culper. So, we are not thrilled that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has now been named health secretary,
Starting point is 00:39:03 Yippe, yeah, yeah. We don't think he deserves it. We don't think he's earned it. We think he lies a lot. We think he has lied a lot. But now that he is in, we will wish him well. And we do know one thing.
Starting point is 00:39:17 If he screws up, Trump will fire his butt so quick his head will spin. We're not fans. And we say it to his face, respectfully. We don't like him lying, and he's been lying up as wazoo. for the last few weeks.
Starting point is 00:39:36 Oh, I never said that. Oh, here's the transcript. Oh, here's the video. But as we said, and listen, we didn't like Biden winning. What did we say the first day he became president? We hope he does great things. He turned out to be left of Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden. Nightmarish, Joe Biden.
Starting point is 00:40:04 Wish him well. Good health to him. But left us dangling. if you ask me. So hopefully Kennedy gets off his polio vaccine is bad thing and just
Starting point is 00:40:22 does his job well. Just like everybody else. The best thing I love today, what's her name? Linda McMahon is now the education secretary and she was on Capitol Hill today. You know what the best part about that was.
Starting point is 00:40:40 Sitting right behind her was Triple H. One of the icon professional wrestlers of all time because he's married to Stephanie McMahon. And he was just sitting there front and center. I thought that was pretty cool. And of course, the education secretary, interesting. Have you seen the numbers on our kids and their math and their science? So this administration is coming in.
Starting point is 00:41:22 saying we need to do more about the education. And what are they doing? They're screaming and yelling at the administration. And the administration said, look at the math numbers. What are you doing about it? They don't do anything. In the past, people have been calling for vouchers. So if your school sucks, you get to go somewhere else.
Starting point is 00:41:46 You know, if you go into a restaurant and the restaurant is feeding your bad food or bad service, you get to go to a different restaurant. Well, don't you think schools are a lot more important than restaurants? So if you go into a bad school, you should have the opportunity to go somewhere else and get vouchers. But as usual, what does they do on the other side? Oh, that's only for rich people. No, vouchers are for anybody. There is a power base in this country, ladies and gentlemen, that's just out to screw you.
Starting point is 00:42:25 And as I told you, I had to. I didn't want to. It cost me a hell of a lot of money. I had to put my sons in private school. And I think I've told you the stories, but I won't go through it again. And it was the best investment I've ever made in my lifetime. Both my sons are doing terrific, thanks to my wife also. While I sit here 24-7 looking at a screen of stocks, she was taking care of them.
Starting point is 00:43:08 So now they're working on the education. and the Department of Education, I believe, stopped educating and just became a political machine. And I know there's complaints about what happened during COVID. I got newsfea. A lot of those complaints are valid as all hell. So they're looking at that too. Good. Why?
Starting point is 00:43:37 Go compare math and science and other things versus all. other countries. We're very low on the totem pole. And what do we want for our kids? To be smart as all hell and be able to do great things going forward. Yet they're being fought on that also. It is amazing that these certain politicians want to die on these hills of failure. We'll keep covering it. every dime, every area, with no bias, a gender, ulterior motive. All we care about is the greatness of the people this country, and that means just set good policy and get the hell out of our way. And that is low taxes, less regulations.
Starting point is 00:44:38 You can have regulations, but not onerous. defend the citizens, fight crime, defend the borders, and get the hell out of the way. What a concept. And that is all. So we'll go into tomorrow. You've got a few blowups in the aftermarket. We'll see what that means. I see Applied Materials, Palo Alto Networks, Twilio, Go Daddy blowing up.
Starting point is 00:45:13 But Roku strong. And we'll see what that means for tomorrow. But just letting you know when you have a chance, look at the charts. of the NASDAQ, NASDAQ, 100, and the S&P, and throw in the Dow. They look very nice setups to get out of here to the north side. Anything is possible until they move out and stick, but that setup is nicely there. More names are showing up on my screen. While we do have plenty of blowups, there's still plenty of good reactions in the market.
Starting point is 00:45:47 and yes, a lot of the market remains in downtrends. We've gone through all those areas for you. But if they can turn, and lastly, as I said, 10-year yield drop more than it was up yesterday with not-so-great inflation numbers. What does that say? You all have a great evening drive carefully when you get home. Do like we do. Make sure you hug the family.
Starting point is 00:46:15 Make sure you hug your children. They will feel better.
