Starting point is 00:00:33 Investor's Edge with Gary Kaltbaum. Straight talk about you and your money. Now from the BizTalk Studios, here is Gary Kaltbaum. And welcome once again to Investors Edge. I'm Gary Kaltbaum, your host day. Thanks of being with us today. Glad you here, ladies and gentlemen, happy that you are listening. It's August 25th, it's Thursday.
Starting point is 00:00:53 It's 2022. Hope you're having a good day. Lots to cover, lots to talk about, lots of reactions from you guys and gals on the things we have been saying here. Interesting. You're all agreeing with me. That's not supposed to happen. We'll cover that in a little bit.
Starting point is 00:01:14 But first, if you do not get this radio show in your city, we'll post it at garyk.com. We'll also post it on our Twitter feed. We'll also post it at all the podcast apps. And if you want to follow us on Twitter, just go to Twitter, put our name in, or at the Twitter button at garyk.com. You can email me, just be nice. You know, I got this weirdo that calls me like at midnight leaving me messages.
Starting point is 00:01:39 Gary, you're the rich people don't give a crap what you have to say. I don't know what's a matter with some people. We don't decipher rich and poor here. We talk to everybody. It's very weird some people. Anyway, we're going to cover the markets in a little bit, but I have to, I look. tell you about things I've experienced that to me are quite amazing. Maybe you do, maybe you don't. I was scammed again today. I got a phone call and from whatever city and you answer it.
Starting point is 00:02:28 It's a tape, Amazon. You bought so-and-so with your Amazon and if you did not, press one. And of course, I press one, and I know it's a scam, and they're either getting money from you or they're taking over your computer. God knows what they're going to be doing. And the people on the other side of the phone are from India. You know how I know this? Because I talked to one today. I said to this man, are you going to spend the rest of your life screwing people? And the man engaged with me.
Starting point is 00:03:12 And let me tell you what this man from India told me. Their family is destitute. There is no opportunity. I'm just telling you what they said to me. There is no opportunity. The government killed us during COVID, and they're restricting us now. We don't know what us to do.
Starting point is 00:03:38 I cannot find a job. This is all I have. I said, yeah, but you're screwing people. he said I have no choice this is I'm telling you went through this whole conversation and I felt bad for the guy and before the end of the conversation was over
Starting point is 00:03:58 I was comforting him seriously I was comforting him he was almost crying on the phone I was telling him I would love to help him and his family out but I wouldn't know how and ain't happening just now. But we spoke for like 15 minutes,
Starting point is 00:04:22 and he was telling me about India, how things are all the strife and how bad things are. Wow, huh? And he wasn't lying. You know when you can tell somebody's full of crap? Even on the phone, even from India? Unreal. Of course, I've had other people scam
Starting point is 00:04:47 and I kind of rip him and they give me the F-bombs back, but this guy was just so, he was apologetic. And I never got to exactly what they do. I don't know whether they get into your, I don't know whether they get into your computer and play with it. Somebody emailed me. It happened to somebody else.
Starting point is 00:05:08 They got in the computer and stole stuff. I don't, you know, or it's one of those where they get money out of you. I felt bad for this guy. Unreal, huh? I was on the phone. I didn't ask him his name. Next, I just want to mention your reactions to my commentary on this latest that a president can actually, actually,
Starting point is 00:05:43 forgive people's loans. Every one of you agreed with me. And I actually engage with everybody to find out whether you are on the left or on the right. There were more people on the left and the right that were coming to me on this, and they all said they think it sucks. Every one of them. Knowing I said, hey, we gave all that money to the banks and the lenders back in 0809. We just gave hundreds of billions to the chip companies.
Starting point is 00:06:29 But everybody said the same thing. You're screwing everybody who behaved correctly. And remember what government's supposed to be. A, a defender of the citizenry, and the incentivizer of good behavior, and the disincentivizer of bad behavior. Now, we're not saying people that did not pay their loans and still owe is bad behavior.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Not at all. We're just comparing them to the people that have. that those people who paid off their loans get nothing and the people that haven't yet possibly get $10,000 off what they owe. Stunning. And even a bunch of Democrats on the two are against it, but remember what we said. And we don't use the word as an expletive. You have a Marxist in the White House and he will mark a Marxist.
Starting point is 00:07:38 this country as much as possible, as much as he can get away with. And it will make things up. But the favorite one is, we lowered the deficit $1.7 trillion. It's a lie. They raised it $3 trillion because of COVID and then took it down $1.7 trillion. That's not lowering the deficits and the debt. Anyway, that's what we're dealing with. And I disagree with people that it's going to cause inflation because it really isn't. Just so you know somebody with a $100,000 loan, that's now 90, what do you think they're going to do? Go out and buy $10,000 watch?
Starting point is 00:08:19 No, they're just going to have smaller payments. So I'm not in that camp. I just think it's wrong. But Gary, what about the tax cuts for the rich? Well, first off, that's earned money. It's not a loan. And I believe that taxes should be low and government should be efficient. and not sizable.
Starting point is 00:08:43 But that horse left the barn, the car left the garage, and the train left that station years ago. But anyway, you all agreed. Good to know I'm not insane. And now we'll do markets. So what have we said to you in simplistic terms here? Interest rates go up.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Markets come down. Interest rates come down. Markets go up. Simple as that. interest rates came down today markedly. There wasn't really any news. Jay Powell's in Jackson Hole. He's going to have a speech tomorrow, but that's going to be gibberish.
Starting point is 00:09:31 Why did interest rates come down today? Because they decided to. You've been persistently up over the last three, four weeks. They came down markedly today. And towards the end of the day, the market got bought up based on that. And we're now in between the highs of last week and the lows of yesterday. And it's a higher low from the June lows with a lot of warts in between. But today was no cold water.
Starting point is 00:10:03 Today was a very good day as we finished. Now we get asked about volume and stuff. Well, it's kind of lighter volume right now no matter what. No matter what. no matter what does this mean anything to tomorrow no do we know what j pal is going to say no we hate the fact that it's going to matter though we're nauseated that it's going to matter what he says one man in his whims that has been wrong on everything and you know the laundry list we've given you on him created the greatest wealth in a quality in history with zero percent interest rates screw and savers and bubble up
Starting point is 00:10:50 asset price. Even the ass assets distorted all price and yield. We'll get back to you on a second. I got the laundry list. Then we'll do today's markets. Thanks for being here. I'm Gary. This is the one to only Investor's Edge. Hi, I'm Gary Kallbaum, hosted a nationally syndicated radio show Investors Edge. We're not just handsome radio people. Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. In this episode, we are diving into gut health with CVS pharmacist Victoria Motola, who explains why so many of us live with stomach issues we should not accept as normal. A lot of what I see is just like chronic bloating, chronic stomach aches.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Like I get a stomachache every time that I eat and it just becomes like a lifestyle where, oh yeah, you know, I just have a stomachache every day. Or I'm constantly feeling like gassy. And all of those things are not something that generally, if you have a healthy gut, you should be living with. So that's when we deep dive. We deep dive into your medication. We deep dive into your OTC medication. And then at that point, we can probably identify something that we can change. Hear the full conversation, plus some fascinating facts about how gut health affects so much more than just your stomach on Beyond the Script, a podcast from CVS Pharmacy and IHeartRadio.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Listen now wherever you get your podcasts. Enjoying a healthy dinner that tastes great means eating out at a pricey restaurant, right? Wrong. Healthy Choice Simply steamers are delicious and healthy. The Tray-in-Tray steam technology delivers crisp veggies and tender protein and tasty selections, like Healthy Choice Simply Steamers grilled chicken and broccoli alfredo. It's a satisfying meal with 28 grams of protein and nothing artificial. Healthy Choice Simply Steamers.
Starting point is 00:14:15 what having it all tastes like. It's time to switch on the integrator units and get the brain cells working. You're listening to. Hey, this promises to be fun. Investors Edge. The last bastion of quality programming. With Gary Coltbaum. It doesn't get better than this.
Starting point is 00:14:37 Welcome once again to Investors Edge. So J-Powel creates the greatest wealth inequality in the history of the world with zero percent rates and bubbling up all asset prices would have now been all crushed. The coins crushed, the NFTs crushed, the marijuana stocks crushed, the 3D stocks crushed, the overpriced IPO crushed, growth stocks with ridiculous valuations crushed, the SPACs crushed. Housing now, we'll leave out the word crushed, but I'm just letting you know. I spend 30 minutes a night now going through cities. And you know what word I put up? newest.
Starting point is 00:15:39 And every day there's more and more inventories. And every day I'm seeing no sales. And also seeing the word pending go by the wayside. Distorted price and yield on everything. Bonds that should be paying 9%. We're paying 5. And you know what's happening now? You got it. I remember they came out with the Austria bonds, the 100-year bonds,
Starting point is 00:16:05 yielding like 8 tenths for percent. I hear they're down 55 percent, and you've got to live 100 years to get all your money out. Screwing the savers. Enabled and created massive debt and leverage everywhere. All the pipes, including themselves. The massive bubbles.
Starting point is 00:16:24 They created the inflation. Of course they did. And the reason they don't get the blame because it doesn't behoove the media or the politicians of the pundit, to blame him when they can blame other politicians. Remember, they're just actors and actresses. You know that, right?
Starting point is 00:16:44 They don't care about you. They're actors and actresses, those people. So he created inflation. When we told you in advance inflation was coming because of him, they never talked about it. When I knew it hit and told you so, and he was asked about it, he said no. when it worsened he still said no when it really worsened he said don't worry it's transitory he got the
Starting point is 00:17:11 administration to say that word also and the rest is history yet we have to wait Wall Street is waiting with bated breath on his every word tomorrow imagine imagine a quack doctor. Imagine a quack doctor who treats people and they get worse, if not worse, and asking that quack doctor to speak to the AMA. Think about that. Imagine a mutual fund manager that's down 75% asked to go on TV for their expertise. Oh, that's right, that is happening. Imagine a president who is voted for $30 trillion of our $30.5 trillion of debt and comes up with massive spending bills and then tells us it's going to lower our debt.
Starting point is 00:18:23 And the media says nothing to him and doesn't ask them any questions based on that resume. Oh, that's right, that happened. Well, now we have this, and nothing personal, this imbecile who has no accountability or oversight on him. that God only knows how he ended up with the ability to print $9 trillion up to $9 trillion of conjured up debt. And we got to listen to him tomorrow. It's unbelievable that we have to listen to him.
Starting point is 00:19:15 And it's unbelievable that the markets are going to listen to him. Why? Because the markets know he still has the ability. You know, I always said I can make the Dow go to 50,000 within a week. I could. Make me the head of the central bank and I'll just go print 25 trillion bucks tomorrow. I mean it. So that's what we have to deal with tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:19:48 What he says, I don't know, how the market reacts. I don't know. What I can tell you, it's just for, freaking nauseating. I was taught economics 101 market's supposed to be free. The trading and investing of people at a certain price, at a certain time, at a certain size. But it's not. It's now also with the interference of somebody that can print $9 trillion and put it in the market at his whim. Well, that'll be tomorrow. Whatever. But how about that story with the guy from India. Amazing, huh? I have no choice. This is the only job I can get.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Sitting in a room with 500 people screwing people across the world. Wow, huh? The market wrap is brought to by Investment-Models.com. That's Jim Rorbach, one of the great market timers. No gray areas with the man you're either in or out of the market with his proprietary indicators. Go check it out. Investment-models.com. By the way, an hour late, I got another call from the same place. Different person though. It was India again. Dow closed on the high, 322, and it was the last hour. When bonds shut off yields at the low of the day, phew, up 322, NASDAQ 207, NASDAQ 100-225, the SOX up 104, transports 254, advanced declines good, up-down volume, good. Still more new lows than new highs on both indices. Let me make sure of
Starting point is 00:21:53 that no that's incorrect little more new highs on the new york than the nasdaq than the new lows excuse me of note um all today was is you got back a little bit of the last high that topped out last week there maybe 30 40 percent of it that said let me see if i put this correctly i want to convey it right as long as the lows of the last three days hold Good. Is that okay to say? I know. It's kind of cheating. But that's of its importance. And as long as the semiconductor lows hold. Why? Even more importance. The semiconductors went right down to support and the 50-day moving average. So that was important. It had a good day today. In spite of some things, and we'll get to that in a minute. I'm Gary. This is the one
Starting point is 00:22:59 only Investor's Edge. Hi, I'm Dr. Jake Goodman, host of Beyond the Script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. Starting point is 00:25:43 Investors Edge. He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on his feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. With Gary Colour. BOMB. It comes highly recommended. You're going to feel better if you talk to him.
Starting point is 00:25:54 And well, once again, to Investor's Edge. And again, let me repeat. The semiconductors, which have never been big leadership in this market, but always have to watch them, went right down to support and popped even this morning when NVIDIA was down a few bucks on their crappy numbers. NVIDIA finished up six and changed today. How can that be? The group, the sector, found support today. You know what else found support?
Starting point is 00:26:42 To the penny. A J.P. Morgan. Right to the 50 day. Which represents financials. So financial is a better day. And other areas did the same. That's what happened today and got the impetus with the tenure. I have no clue about tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:27:08 I don't know if this is going to get going or not. A lot needs to happen. But I will tell you there is some leadership in the market, and I have not been able to say that forever. There's a few semiconductor names. We already told you about some oil names. Whether or not they stay in shape is another story, because bottom line is if we do have a full leg down again,
Starting point is 00:27:32 they'll get them all again. But so far, hanging in there. And there's a smattering of a few other things that are, I don't know if you call them leadership, but just good relative strength. The waste management companies. A couple of the managed care names. A couple of insurance stocks are within a stone's throw of yearly highs. And a few other things.
Starting point is 00:27:57 But overall, it's just a ton of stuff that's weighed down. That's really trying. That corrected hard in the last few days. that found some support today. Now, if you can't see what we're telling you, I don't know how easy it is. We do it in our webcast, we'll do that tonight. Bottom line, watch them interest rates and watch oil prices.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Oil prices came down today also. They're vital. There is a direct correlation. Now, not everything was all well and good today. There are reactions to earnings that market, no likey. And you always got to watch out from Dollar Tree. That stock has been great relative strength, not anymore. Down 10% today on big volume on their earnings. Love those dollar stores. Salesforce.com was only down six. It was down 14. Why was it only down 14? Because the market
Starting point is 00:29:12 had a better day. Burlington, not a good day, down 10% on their really bad numbers. Peloton, a huge loss, huge, gargantuan. I've got to believe, this is a guess, do not even think about doing anything on this guess, but this is my guess. I got to believe they'll end up getting bought by somebody on the cheap. And I'm thinking probably the same thing on Teledoc too. Do you know what happened just now? Amazon got into the Teladoc business.
Starting point is 00:29:56 they just got rid of it. I wonder if they try to buy Teledoc itself. Some of these companies that benefited big time from COVID, no benefit anymore. Peloton, one of them. Gims are back to full. People want to get out. And it's going to be limited as they move forward.
Starting point is 00:30:24 And they have to change the structure of their company and how much they charge and this, and the other thing. Gotta believe somebody's going to buy them, but whether or not it's at a premium, I don't know. I'm thinking maybe the same thing for Teledoc. Maybe even for Doc you sign also. That's just a guess. And believe me, I'm not betting on it. But for all you business owners out there, it is, you always want to learn lessons from what you do and what everybody else does. And I think what happened with Peloton is that things were so damn great. They forgot the most important thing you can do when things are great. It's called being paranoid. Looking over your shoulder.
Starting point is 00:31:24 What can go wrong? I think they forgot to prepare for the day when the pandemic went by-bye. or maybe they believe even if the pandemic goes away people are going to flock to us they forgot to air on the side of caution and they ended up with crap loads of inventory mark downs this downs that downs and more importantly for the investor
Starting point is 00:31:59 holy smokes and all we can hope is that you all listen to us when we told you the week of February 19th of 2021 that we thought the stock had topped, little did we know the holy crap that this thing would go from 170 down to, what's Peloton today? 11! 11! Let's see. It was February 17th when we said we thought Peloton stock had topped on this show. Oh yeah. I remember the day. Combination of big run and the other part of the equation that we did not know the outcome. Muwee importante. For you business owners,
Starting point is 00:33:06 just always look over your shoulder. Always think about what can go wrong if I don't do this or do that. You know who's in that crosshair right now? Facebook. I think what's happened with Zuckerberg, besides the fact he's a liar, I called him out when he was on Capitol Hill, and the reason why Capitol Hill didn't indict him for lying, I think he may have been under, no, he wasn't under oath, so he couldn't have been indicted. But they should have been ripping him to shreds for lying.
Starting point is 00:33:33 I think Heath became omnipid him with himself. Nothing can go wrong. Look at me. And you kind of almost can't blame it. I mean, look what the guy became out of nowhere, out of college. But he forgot also the cardinal rule. You better be looking over your shoulder,
Starting point is 00:33:55 asking yourself what can go wrong. Oh, and oh boy, is it going wrong? And then they changed the name from Facebook. And I think they did that because they were worried about their name. The brand name was heading south. They probably took some sort of polling or whatever marketing research. But they change it to meta? What the hell is a meta?
Starting point is 00:34:19 Could it just change it to cheese whiz for all? And of course, the young population has no interest in it. Or very little interest. So I think that's another one that has big problems going forward and the stock's reflecting it. So for all you business owners out there, big, small, whatever, just always, you know, what can go wrong? What's my fail safe?
Starting point is 00:34:53 And work off of that. Big time work off of that. Because there is no guarantees in business. Ever. Unless you Warren Buffett. And he's made mistakes, but he spread himself out pretty damn well. Just some food for thought. I hate cliches.
Starting point is 00:35:21 Take that back. Forget food for thought. Just some thoughts for you. Because there's a lot of that going on right now. Okay. Good close today. It means nothing to tomorrow. But leave no doubt some support held today. If that gets broken, horse of a different color. Can we get some juice off of this? Potentially. We shall see. What does Powell say tomorrow? I don't know. Up next, more on the markets. Whatever else. I'm Gary. This is the one only investor's edge. host of Beyond the script, the podcast where I sit down with pharmacists to answer the health questions you didn't even know you could ask at the pharmacy counter. Starting point is 00:37:02 issues we should not accept as normal. A lot of what I see is just like chronic bloating, chronic stomach aches. Like I get a stomach ache every time that I eat. And it just because, like a lifestyle where, oh, yeah, you know, I just, I have a stomach kick every day. Or I'm constantly feeling like gassy. And all of those things are not something that generally, if you have a healthy gut, you should be living with. So that's when we deep dive. We deep dive into your medication. Starting point is 00:38:59 One, two, ready, go. Action! In the Wester's Edge. With Gary Kalka. Our country does not let foreigners in unless they're vaccinated. which means Novak Djokovic, one of the greatest players of all time, cannot play the U.S. Open tennis tournament that's starting any day now. He refuses to get vaccinated, which my opinion, I think he's nuts.
Starting point is 00:39:43 I think he should. But it doesn't matter what I think. The bigger story here is, so somebody who's American coming from overseas can come in, but he can't. Moronic, imbecilic, what are the words, illogical? Just my thoughts. And you are hurting the spectators. No longer has COVID this death sentence.
Starting point is 00:40:21 If really anything at this juncture, and let's hope it stays that way. Unreal. Am I nuts? I don't think I'm nuts. Tomorrow, I'm not sure which hour, either the 12 o'clock or 1 o'clock hour, I'll be on with Neil Cavuto, and usually a couple of times during the hour. And I'm always asked, what do you do with TV and stuff? I have this background from downtown Orlando.
Starting point is 00:40:58 It's a digital background. And what I simply do to be on TV now is I turn my chair around in my office and look at a laptop camera. That's how I do TV. It's the greatest. I used to have to get in the car and drive into traffic. This is a pain in the, you know what. So that'll be tomorrow, either in the 12 o'clock hour or one o'clock hour, tomorrow with one of the people I admire most in this world, Neil Cavuto.
Starting point is 00:41:40 What a mensch. Absolute mensch. I've never had dinner with them, never gone out with them, just been done TV with them a thousand times and studio with them a bazillion times. But you know a person by watching them every single day and how they handle the worst of, the best of. Anyway, what else we got for you today? So let's just walk through it. Some important areas of support held today.
Starting point is 00:42:24 Oil prices came down, yields came down, gave impetus to a market that was already oversold because it just got cheesed for the last few days and bounced up and finished on the high note of the day, which means absolutely nothing to tomorrow. The financials write down to support. Semiconductors write down to support. I will tell you there's a few semiconductor names. Just go to the New Yearly High list tonight and you'll see them. There's a few semiconductors names that are like yearly highs. While most of them are way, way down, we call them outliers and whether or not they continue or not, we'll find out soon enough. Oils overall good, but mixed. There's a bunch of oils that still look like crap, but a few standouts. And we've mentioned Occidental, which is Buffett, and I'm mentioning it, we don't own any. And I'm a little peeved
Starting point is 00:43:15 at myself that I didn't buy any. He had a chance to around 70 bucks. It's 74, not the biggest of the deal. But if oil prices come down, it'll come down too. Sing a better tone in steel stocks. They're starting to come on a little bit here. China stocks overnight, what's going on with China, duh. China's easing. They're lowering their interest rates because their economy is in the crapper. Big time in the crapper. And there's a lot going on there politically.
Starting point is 00:43:46 I don't know if you know this. You know, it's a big authoritarian joint now, but people are getting pissed off at the inflation and lack of jobs. Housing dilemma. So that had a good night. Good day today. That hit my screens today. have no clue what to do with them because how do you trust?
Starting point is 00:44:07 They killed their own companies with rules and regulations and all that. New Yearly High List is not many, but I'd be on top of that. And again, there is some leadership, just not a ton. Solar stocks, pretty strong. Government largesse, lots of it. And hopefully we're making what we call a higher low. in the market. June low, rally up, come down a bunch, but stay above the June low, and then build another big staircase. Can we do that if we're in recession? I just watch the market.
Starting point is 00:44:52 Everybody's arguing recession, depression, inflation, deflation, we just watch the market. And I promise you in the end, valuation will matter, real world will matter. And that's why I've been yelling and screaming at you about the bed bath and beyonds and the like. We told you, valuations going to matter. Bed bath and beyond is down 66% in seven days. We're mostly through earnings season, but there's a smattering of a few things. As we said, NVIDIA, which is not an unimportant stock, was up seven bucks today, was down six last night in the aftermarket because of real bad numbers. How is it up seven bucks today?
Starting point is 00:45:35 Market. If the semiconductors turned south tomorrow, things with bad numbers will get hit hardest. But it's the nature of the beast. The big institutions find support levels. They see that they're holding and they protect and defend. Believe me, rhyme and a reason. I have to mention also a man named Ron Barron. I don't know if you know who he is.
Starting point is 00:45:59 Big mutual fun guy. If you have a chance, go find this. I'm going to mention it. It's CNBC interview this morning. It's probably on there if you go to CNBC.com. One of my favorites. They ask him about the here and now, and he's talking 30 years from now. Got to love that.
Starting point is 00:46:19 I don't even know what I'm eating for dinner tonight, and he's talking 30 years. But he has a good eye for changes in the world. Ron Barron, B-A-R-O-M. All right, until tomorrow. Jay Powell Day. You all have a great evening, drive carefully. And when you get home, do like we do, it is quite simple. Okay, make sure you hug your family.
Starting point is 00:46:41 Make sure you hug your children. Why? they will feel better, you will feel better, I promise. And until tomorrow, don't forget, on with Cavood on Fox Business Network, and same time tomorrow we'll be back. Hopefully another good day in the market, because we know your 401Ks depend on it. Peace out, all.
