Welcome back to It Is What It Is.
I'm Treasure Wilson, aka Stat Baby, along with your host, Mace, and Cam.
Killer was good.
Statt was going on.
Beth, what's up, man?
How you doing?
Good, man.
It's graduation week.
You know, I got to go to all of the graduations, you know, because of my duties.
That's what's up, man.
That's dope, man.
Somebody who didn't graduate going to the graduation.
man.
Fire.
That's why I got to ask them to show me the diploma.
You know, people walk across the stage with just paper.
That's true.
I said, son, I tried that one.
That is very true.
People definitely walk across the stage with just the paper in their hand.
They ain't even let me do that.
Got on shorts, Olaf shorts.
And George is under the cabin.
gown. Yeah, that's the fact, man.
He said why he's not
dressed? Because I'm coming back
next year. Yeah.
I'll be in summer school and all that.
Okay.
So these games here,
y'all, the Spurs, Cam,
must be feeling good because last night
the Spurs B-OKC, 122
to 115 in double
overtime. So Wembe actually made history
by becoming the youngest player ever to record
40 plus points and 20 plus rebounds in
a playoff game. So more than
safe to say this game lived up to expectations. It was a great overall game. So Mace, when watching,
what do you think surprised you the most about this game? Because there's a lot of things that
happened here. I mean, there was a lot of things that happened, but I like the fact that they went
with the Harper. You know what I'm saying? I'm glad that they went with Harper because this is
something I've been looking forward to all year, right? He's been coming off of the bench. But I know if he gets more
minutes, this team is more dangerous than just playing them, like, as a six-man.
If you give him, like, start a minutes, he could produce.
And that was one of the major things.
It was so many things that you could speak of.
And this is the moment I was looking forward to when it came to Wembe.
I know that, you know, that OKC has a very dominant team.
They got players that can come off the bench get 30.
They got all of these players.
I think that there's a lot of storylines here.
First is Harper, then there's Wemby getting that 41.
That's what he's supposed to do.
He's 7.4.
He's shooting from the four-point line.
And then you got Caruso showing up.
But most of all, I think in this game, there's one player to watch out for.
If he gets going, OKC is more dangerous.
I think even in Jay Will, then that's Mitchell.
If Mitchell gets going, this team is dangerous.
but he just couldn't get going this game for some reason.
He only had four points,
and he's been a difference maker for the last 10 games or so,
even though, because Shea is going to give you what Shea is going to give you.
Pause.
He's going to be 20 to 26 to 30 every single game.
I think Jay Will kind of coming back messed it up,
even though he's a very special player,
but the chemistry has been more of the other guy doing damage and Wayne Pauls.
When he comes back, then he got to step back and take a different role.
It's almost like what we've seen happen with Jordan Poole when he was with Golden State.
I think that's the same thing here in order for them to win,
they're going to have to let the young boy go crazy.
Whoever they found them, shout out to the scouts.
That was a real good fine.
Yeah.
Yeah, I've been real cool.
I've been real.
cool, man. I've been cool. I've been cool this whole time till last night.
Me and Mitch coached these niggas last night to our first win in the Western
Conference finals in 10 years, man. It was me and Mitch. I was right at the screen and we coached
these niggins to victory, man. Listen, man. You and Mitch? Me and Mitch, we did it.
We coached them last night. First of all, let me tell you something right now.
Don't ever give out an MVP trophy while we're on the floor.
Don't ever in yellow, wait till we in the locker room,
do the shit secretly, do the shit when we're not in the building.
Do not hand out MVP's while we in the building or on the floor.
Because what Wimby should have did after the game,
went right up in the locker room and said,
because you give me my trophy.
Let me get my trophy,
because it looked like they gave the MVP to the wrong nigga last night.
That's what it looked like.
Don't have no awards and shit in front of us.
You're violating.
That's first thing.
Y'all straight up violating.
That's first and foremost, man.
We'll start there.
Watch when you're hearing your awards,
out your watches and your trench coats.
Do all that shit secretly, nigger.
It's a new sheriff in town, Shea,
and I'm a Shay fan.
I still think you the best point guard in the NBA.
It is a new sheriff in town, nigga.
Nigger, yo, first of all, let's just start off with Wembe, man.
Wembe is just doing shit that, like, fam,
the shit he's doing.
and just never see.
Now, before I even get to Wendy,
I want to give both coaches a shout out,
not just me and Mitch,
but Dagnall, he did a great job.
It was me and Mitch.
You know, because Dagnall did a great job.
This was a game of the minds
because they would call it timeouts
when they're supposed to, so on and so forth.
But Wembe was just doing shit
that's not coachable.
It was natural shit.
Wembe comes down in overtime,
the first overtime,
they're down three.
points with about 30 seconds left, he gets the ball where Steph had the ball when they be
OKC at the buzzer.
He's Logo Wimby.
Logo Wemby is crazy in overtime to send it to double overtime.
Not only that, the 41 points, 24 rebounds, they were questioning his durability because they
was trying to find games where he played at least 40 minutes.
He played quick, 48 minutes, 49, whatever the minutes was.
last night, 40 phenomenon, fucking amazing.
And then you say the durability.
There you have no durability.
Just coming off a six-game series with Minnesota,
and OKC had all the rest that they needed.
So shout out to Wimby, Allie Ups, the block shots.
The not just, the stat that's not showing up,
is because there is no stat for it.
Him deterring shots.
When you get to the room and you think about it like,
nah, let me just keep dribbling.
Because I know if I get put it up, it's getting pinned.
Wimby looked like the MVP last night.
Shout to him.
Like I said, it's so much shit that he did.
It's unexplainable.
So we'll just shout out to Wimby.
It looked like he should walk right up in O'KC shit and take Shay shit.
Let me get that.
I give it back when you deserve it.
We'll start there.
Secondly, this Young Spurs team look great, man.
Double overtime.
I disagree with Mace a little bit.
We're giving a hop of the men.
It wasn't about giving a harp in a minute.
The Aaron Fox didn't play.
And when I'm looking at this, the turnovers, man,
all I'm sitting there saying to myself,
if the Aaron Fox was in the game,
we would not have all these turnovers.
Stephen Carrick would have more than 10 turnovers.
I don't know if it was 11, 12, or 30.
I stopped counting at 11 turnovers
because I was so disgusted,
and that's why we had to bring them in
when we caught the time out and calm them down a little bit.
We had to tell the nigga, listen,
calm down, you got 11 turnovers,
and you're the primary ball handle.
Same thing with Dylan Harper, same thing for sell.
What's the term I'm looking for?
Whatever it is, I can't think of the term, right?
Dead possessions, that's what I'm looking for.
Dead possessions to when you're going down
and you're not even getting a shot off,
and I know Deerrin Fox would have definitely offset some of them turnovers.
But I'm not mad at none of them.
I'm not mad at Dylan Harper.
I'm not mad at Vassell.
I'm not mad of Shan Penny.
All those turnovers, and they stayed in the game,
think about this, the Spurs played a perfect game for the first 44 minutes of the game.
The first 44 minutes, defensively and offensively, She had about 10 points coming into the
fourth quarter. You know, he got all this points towards the overtime and double overtime
and towards the end of the fourth quarter. Defensively, they were tremendous against Shea.
But you know, they had different, you know, OKC, they went on their run.
10-2 run probably the last, when it got to about four minutes,
I'm like, look at these niggas.
They came and tied it up.
These niggas played an absolute perfect game for 44 minutes.
And I'm like, here comes the inexperience kicking in.
This is where we need Deerrin Fox,
even though Deeran Fox has never been to a Western Conference final.
You can see the jitters kicking in.
You can see the turnovers, the loose balls, the 50-50 balls they're not getting.
And I was like, fuck.
But they held their composure.
and when you got a 7-4 nigger who could do everything,
that helps.
That helps a lot.
But I wish they were the, the spurs would have won this in regulation
by 10 to 12 points total minimum if Deere Fox was playing
and they cut the turnovers down.
But Harper played tremendous.
And I love the passion for Mitch because Mitch is one of these coaches
where he'd been cool all season.
He's been real cool all season.
Like you see him smiling, you see him.
Even this game, he's cool.
But when Harper missed an assignment, he went crazy.
I seen the nigger yelling spit coming out of his mouth.
So that's what, when we came in the huddle,
that's what I told him.
I said, that's what we need from you, nigger.
That's what we need.
Lay the team, nigger, that's what I'm talking about.
And then when Johnson, our sixth man at a year,
he missed another defensive assignment
and took an illivide shot.
Sit down.
You know what, sit down.
We ain't got time to play no more.
We need to steal game one and get home court
advantage back in our possession.
So I instilled the power, Pauls, and Mitch,
and he instilled it in the players, and that's why people
were held a counterstatt.
You'll have all you want.
That's why people were held accountable.
Johnson, you'll have a seat.
Dillon Harper, you, I'm gonna chew your ass out poor since you
don't act like you don't know what's going on.
Castle, what the fuck with the turnovers?
Champagne, we don't need that shot.
Let's need some time off the shot clock.
Man, it was a tremendous game, man.
very, very impressive, impressive first game of the rest of the conference finals.
Now, on the other side of the equation, they had Shea in check, boy.
Our defense, we had some shit for him.
We had some shit for Shea.
Hey, we did.
We had some shit for Shea.
They got to the point where, you know, I've never seen this before.
And I was smarter Dagno.
Because the double teams, they're putting on Shay right before he get to have court.
The double team was coming.
And then they was wasting the light.
They wasn't necessarily turned the ball over,
but they wasted a lot of time on the shot clock.
What he did was sending the two and three guards
all the way down the court in the corners on both sides
so that way it couldn't be a double team.
And I'm like, that's some smart shit, bro.
They're gonna get shade some time or some one-on-one time.
So now the two and the three guard,
when the ball's being taken out there,
all the way down the court and the three-point line.
And I'm like, that's fucking smart.
Because they need to do something to get shade,
some, um, some of them space.
Cause Shea was running in the black jerseys all night.
All night now.
You look at the, you look at the box score.
You're like, oh, Shay, I got 24.
He really had like 11.
You know, he got his free throws,
there's, you know, a little chip shots.
He had about 11, 12.
You know what I'm saying?
So shout up to me and Mitch for locking that there.
Harstein, really non-factor.
You were just on the court.
Chet, I see you after the game.
Chet told him about something.
All right.
All right, what?
All right, what, Chet?
Your hair ate.
Your hair ate.
And listen, listen, a lot of people who don't know this,
I bought this up on the show before,
and they showed it a little bit throughout the game,
how Wimby has a problem with Chet
because of when he lost in that Junior Olympics,
2021 by two points.
Chek got MVP.
Paris lost to America.
And they showed clips throughout the season
of when Chet was Missed Frito.
Wimby had grabbed the ball on Miss Frito.
Like, yeah, he threw it on TV.
Check, if it goes and looked at them
and took the ball back on if it goes.
Chee, you got problems, nigga.
You can look like, you can make me mug all you want.
You got problems, man.
I'm telling you that right now.
I'm not mad at Jay Doug's return.
Mace could be right about the chemistry
being thrown off, everything else.
But I thought it wasn't.
Absolutely.
Yeah, but for me, my personal opinion, being that,
being that, because he didn't get the minutes
until niggas were struggling.
Then he's like, yo, nigga, shade's in trouble.
Let's get him in there.
I thought he had decent minutes,
but I think the MVP for tonight
for OKC was Caruso, man.
Caruso was pissing me to fuck off.
I'm sitting there like, he ain't going to make this three.
Nah, he ain't going to make this three.
Now, he ain't going to, who the fuck is you
to keep making threes?
And he's the one who kept their motherfuckers in it
moving forward.
You know, he finished eight for 14 from three
with 31 points, 11, 19 from the field.
And I'm like, this nigger keep.
making shots.
Fucking Caruso, man.
But big credit to him as well
because he's the one who actually
kept them in his game.
Dork with his big fucking cheating ass
keep trying to elbow Wimby in the back.
Oh, listen, all that shit was cool.
But I'll tell you one thing, man.
We did what we need to do.
Pat to me, me, Mitch,
Wemby.
De Arons should be back next game.
Now, I'll say this.
I do think this,
that OKC is going to
win the next game.
The reason I believe
I believe okay we're gonna win the next game.
It's because we're off two days' rest on the six-game series,
six-game series with Minnesota.
OKC has a lot of energy.
They've been played for a week.
And we played a lot of minutes, man.
We had double overtime after come six games.
It's going to be a little fatigue there.
But we did what we came to Duke.
We get us to a San Antonio.
Nigger.
Nigga!
Nigger!
Digger.
Guess that?
Guy.
That was a little.
No, that was a great breakdown.
I have no notes, but Mace, do you hear him talk about?
It's him and Mitch.
Last time we seen Rico and Mitch, how did that go?
How did that go?
Yeah, that's crazy.
I don't know how that's gonna go.
See, the whole thing is...
I can put up there my first album cover.
That's all I wish they could do is just put up my first album cover
and put up my, you know, my photo that Kim put up
when I was, you know, holding...
Not holding fingers, but pause, you know,
doing handshakes with my San Antonio, George, you know.
But I'm going to let them rock out, you know.
Pause.
I'm going to let them rock out.
Everybody up here knows the truth, man.
Everybody knows.
Everybody knows that this is my team.
I'm not even, I haven't even, I've been cool about it.
No, I'm not saying, you can.
Thank you.
You can.
I'm saying, I introduced them to San Antonio.
That's what I'm saying.
See this?
See this?
See this?
You wasn't this.
That?
you got to go do your homework.
For you give me that face, just go do your homework.
That's all.
That's a flag.
I'm going to show you a picture, right?
That's what likes.
If you see me with some real baggy jeans on and Tim's that look like
1995 and you see San Antonio and you see the hat and all that,
just that just do your homework.
You're a researcher.
I know this.
I trust your confidence, you know.
See, this is what I'm going to show you.
This is what I'm going to tell you that.
And I'm going to find a picture, right?
I'm gonna find a picture before the show's over
because it's on my Instagram, right?
It's a player named Raj Strickland.
He played for me.
He went and played for the San Antonio Spurge.
This is before me and Mace went to school together,
anything, any albums, anything.
I played for a team called the Gouchos.
Mace didn't play for this team called the Gouchos.
Mace was Riverside and Young Life.
Rosh Strickland.
I didn't have a Goucho.
I never seen you at Goucho.
I never seen, maybe before I got there,
I've never seen you in Gaucho.
Yeah, that's what I'm trying to tell you, Kim.
I didn't see you at Gaucho's ever.
You might be, I'm not going to deny you
because everybody was switching teams like you do now.
I'm just telling you, I'm just telling you at the time,
I didn't see you play for Gauchos.
When I met you, you played for your young life.
Y'all was the yellow game.
You, left-haired, pop, Marquis, Nate, Odie.
Nate, Odie on line one.
I'm going to get Odie on line one.
I'm getting Odie on line one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, it was you, Nate, Odie, Marquis, left-handed Pop,
a rest of peace.
I call Boo from, I'm gonna get Boo on line one from Drew Ham.
I go get Tony from the Mustangs.
We all know you from Young Life.
You was purple gang.
This is when Pop had the little ponytail in the back of his hand.
The shack in the back.
Yeah, the shack in the back.
I don't know you from Gouchos, man.
This is real RP, yeah.
I don't know you.
Anyway,
Raj Strickland played
what's got your alumni.
I'm going to find this picture stat on my Instagram
before this show is over.
And when he used to come back
and see the old players,
I played bitties out about 11, 12 years old.
And I'm like, yo man,
that niggas in the NBA, man.
I'm going to fuck with him.
And he used to give us, you know,
practice with us.
Not real practice because he's an NBA.
I'm like, my team is dispersed
because he had left the Knicks already.
And after he left,
I stayed with the Spurs.
I stayed with him when it was Avery Johnson,
when it was Lloyd Daniels,
when it was Shaw Elliott,
when it was David Robertson.
I'm just not Manu Janobi, Tony Parker, Bruce Bowen.
You know, I'm not with the hype.
I'm down when we're down.
I'm not when we're up.
Loyalty.
Listen, man.
I like that.
I like that.
So that probably was around the same time.
It was my.
But, you know, I'm going to let you have your moment.
You know, because when it was,
My team, you were there before me.
I'm not going to lie.
You was there before me because that wasn't my team when it was Strickland.
It was my team when it was Sean Elliott when he came from Arizona.
But you were there a little bit before me.
So I'm going to just stay on the sideline.
I'm going to live through you, you know?
Mason, you already said your team was the Lakers in Houston.
You said this earlier two weeks ago.
It's cool, man.
Well, I have to get the picture.
You got to get the picture.
I'm looking to do my Instagram right there.
But I'm trusting you, Statt, that you're going to really do your research.
I will.
I'll bring him.
I'm trusting you.
I'll bring him.
This picture, I'm not even.
He's going all the way down the bottom of his Instagram.
This is because you know why?
I'm not going to say the picture's this old, but it's so old that the pictures in black and white.
This is what I'm telling you.
No, that's fire.
I believe you, Killie.
You don't strike.
No, it ain't for you.
It's for the audience.
You was there.
I ain't going to argue with you about it.
If you want to spend it.
I practiced across the street from Lincoln
and 197.
I'm going to keep it a hundred.
I got there towards the end of that
and I didn't really, I went to practice one time
at that joint.
I'm new got your gym.
I'm Bronx.
I'm cross the water.
You went and got the money.
Yeah, I went, yeah, I ain't going to lie.
That's why I said, you could be
100% right. Each one,
each one was up the block. Listen,
you couldn't be 131st Street
Gaucho. I'm not going to all you, 1005th Street
Gaucho. I can't argue that.
So you got them when they got the money.
Yeah, yeah. When Lou got the money,
that's when you came on board.
Yeah, I can't, I can't argue with you
about 135th Street Gaucho, not even
a little bit, I can't do that.
I can't, I have no argument with
135th Street Gaucho.
I took my... Jerry McCulloch and all that.
Yeah, I took my... Yeah, shout to Jay
I took my, and his brother Dennis,
I took my talents across the bridge.
While you're finding that,
because I know he's going to find it by the end of the show.
Now, but you're in good company.
You know, that's Steph, that's sham, that's, um,
what's my boy name?
Steve McDowell, that's Rob, that's Rob Johnson,
Reggie Freeman.
That's a good group of guys,
you know, Paul's, D, um,
Gary Sanders.
All right.
Everybody up there.
Yeah, man.
I'm clicking on my gaucho pictures.
I'm just finding the one with Rod Strickland.
I got about five of them already.
I just need the one where Rod, pause.
Black and white and all.
Well, Cam, you brought up something about
that I also want to ask Mace about
because I think this will be something
that we continue to analyze as we see these games
because the Chet, Wemby matchup,
we know it's going to be like the next big thing.
Like, this is what people want to see.
It's only game one, but you know how people are quick
to move, especially when they see things happen.
Mace, how do you view this chat?
Wimby matchup? Like, do you still view it as a real thing? Or does this kind of make you lose a little
bit of faith? What's your opinion there on that just regarding seeing Chet and how you play?
I'm really going to be honest. This chat, Wemby thing, and I'm saying this because I know,
I know my boy going to say something about it. But this is like a, this is like, I don't even know
who this is like, because Wembe is like levels above.
Chet. It's like somebody, you and them used to be on the same page. And now it's like, what are you
doing even by me right now? You know, that's how it, that's how it looked in that game one.
It looked like this is somebody that everybody used to compare to me, but I've been in the
gym way more days, way more, you know, moments. And I think that injury with Chet really set him back.
So he's like a year behind Wimby, when he used to be level to level with them. I don't think
this is a matchup at all. I think this is like Jordan versus Patrick Ewing. This is like Paul
George, God, and LeBron, it's inevitable. It's like, you know, this is going to turn into a bucket.
This is going to turn into a series that he's won. And hopefully, they could prove me wrong.
But right now, according to game one, that's how it's looking right now. It's looking like,
It's looking like a foregone conclusion that OKC will not be repeating.
They will not.
Not with what I saw in that first game.
Because even when they went to OT, that says a lot.
That says a lot.
They're not home.
They came to do what they came to do.
And Wemby had a lot to do with it.
When I see Wemby posting up, when I see Wembe going to the rack, I mean, he's shooting from
four point range.
He is seven and four.
they got to really figure out what they're going to do with Wembe.
It's a big question.
And, Cam, your thoughts?
Does Chet Wemby matchup?
Yeah, listen.
See, see, think about it is this, is that even though San Antonio is so deep,
it's like we know who the number one option is.
Chet's not the number one option on Oklahoma City Thunder.
So when it's time for them to get a bucket,
they're going to SGA.
He may not be the second option
when J-Dub is healthy.
You know what I'm saying?
So it isn't like you've really
comparing the number one option to a number one option.
And even if Chet was the number one option,
I don't think he could do anything about it anyway.
I agree with Mace when he's saying
the separation has grown,
and paused between those two.
It's a clear, clear differential in their games.
at this point in time.
And I don't even attribute it to the injury
because Chet got hurt one year,
then Wimby got hurt one year.
So they both been hurt for the same amount of time,
even though Wemby played a little bit more games.
I just think that Wemby
has taken his off, you know,
Wemby has taken his off, you know,
we talk about this, not just with Wembe, I'm talking about in general.
Wembe has taken his off-season
what he does in the all-season serious.
I've seen him.
working out with Akeem
Elijah on.
Damn, it was somebody else. I can't remember.
He's working out with like two other NBA
retired NBA players that were good.
Not only that, he's going to be
mentally strong when he's, you know,
when every time I see him at the free throw line,
I think about him being a Buddhist.
Like, he's taking a deep breath.
He's taking his time.
They were even mentioning last night
how I know Greek freak is complaining because you know how they you're supposed to get 10 seconds
when you're at the line to shoot your free throw and they always used to complain Greek freak
takes too long to shoot and Wembe may take 12 13 seconds to shoot this free throw he closes his eyes
he breathes for a minute shrugs the shoulders takes his side open his eyes drool he really takes
his time and I'm not even saying it to be funny I really believe that his mental is strong as well
You know, even tonight, we talked about how he gave that elbow to Nasree last series.
And we seen it last night, too.
Not him giving elbows anybody, but he had to get the fuck off me.
What's wrong, show, niggas?
He got that, yo, if y'all think I'm one of these niggas, y'all just going to be doing whatever, too.
Y'all got me fucked up.
All right, y'all think I'm so, all right, all right, be the next one to catch an elbow.
That was the vibe I was getting from the niggas.
Snat, yo, man, get the fuck off the ball.
Even when the play is dead, he's taking the ball from niggas
when the play is over.
I think that, you know, I can't speak on it
because I don't know anybody who became a Buddhist,
but it looked like it helped him be mentally strong.
And, you know, gaining this experience,
as time goes along, he looks really good.
And I can tell by the disparity on OKC's face after the game
that they were truly,
disgusted because it's like,
yo, if we have an answer,
it would be chat, but he doesn't
seem like he's the answer. I would say
60% of the game, you had
Lou Dort
Garting
fucking Wembe.
I'm like, yo, Dort is fucking
Garland Wembe. 60% of the
fucking game. So,
yeah, I think it's a clear
cut difference between
them two games. As maybe
three years ago, you'd be like
this should be a good matchup for years to
Carl. Yeah, great, great points. And yeah, Chet was kind of getting beat up. It was kind of like, damn, I don't know if anybody, like, that's why I'm even more nervous about the East just in general, because I'm like, is anybody going to have an answer for him? And then even if you think you have an answer, then on the outside, he can shoot a logo three. So he was just doing everything on all ends, which was crazy to see. But shout out to the Spurs for this first win. Before we move on, though, because there's a really cool stat here. So the Spurs actually rolled out the youngest starting lineup in all time history of the NBA conference finals.
Harper's 20, Castles 21, Vesel is 25, Champagne is 24, and Wembe's obviously 22.
So their average age is 22 years old.
So, Mace, do you think the NBA has officially become a young man's league?
Are you not ready to say that yet?
I'm really excited about what I see happening.
This is the first playoff that we're getting deeper pause into the playoffs,
and we're not seeing any of the big names we're used to.
i.e. Kevin Durant, LeBron,
who else we're talking about,
Steppen Curry,
these are names that we used to
for the last 20 or so years.
Two of these players is going to be in the playoffs,
if not, you know, one of them.
And now that we're seeing this repeatedly,
like last year we didn't get to see this,
and, you know, them players at this level again.
And now what we're seeing,
seeing right now with this team. It's just so unfortunate because this is a team. I don't know how
they're going to be able to keep it together because there's so many young guys. And normally after
people get these rings, they want to go other places because they now have that championship
experience and they have those championship rings. This is a phenomenal thing to see, especially to
get some young guys to buy in to a system this early is dangerous. You know what I'm saying? I know me in
camp, we joke back and forth about, you know, San Antonio. It is, it's his team. But I think this
is phenomenal what we're seeing happen with such young talent, getting these guys to focus on
the road. To get a, they get a first game in a Western conference final with guys that's
22 years old, 21 years old, that's remarkable. You don't get that with 34 and 36 year olds, you know,
because it's so hard to come into somebody's house the first two games and take one,
even though people have done it, it's very hard to do because these are champions.
This is not just regular people that got to the playoffs.
So I think it can become a young man's lead, but I'm not ready to say it is.
Not just yet.
Who's the last five champions stat?
I mean, older.
You know what I'm saying?
Well, last year, OKC is young.
The year before that, Boston is young.
Who on before that?
Denver.
Denver, yeah.
There was nobody 30 years old with Denver.
It's been a young nigger league.
You know what I'm saying?
I'm not saying they go to this state.
You know, I'm thinking about this decade.
You got Golden State catching one and you got the Lakers catching one as well.
But for the last four years, it's been niggas, the primary players have
been under 30 years old.
So, listen, man, we can ignore the fact, and, you know, we love our favorites.
But you're saying, look what you're saying, right?
That not you may.
I'm talking about the actual question, but you can chime in as well.
The question is this, right?
Is it a young man's league?
And you started off how San Antonio started the youngest starting lineup ever in the Western Conference Finals.
that was their started lineup.
But if we're talking about a younger team by age,
OKC is younger than the San Antonio Spurs.
Do they have more experience?
Yes.
But if you're looking at the youngest teams in the NBA,
Oklahoma City is third,
and San Antonio is tough as far as age is concerned for young team.
I'll read it off as a whole.
As a whole.
I'm talking about as a whole.
I know you mentioned the starting lineup,
but I'm talking about as a whole.
The youngest team,
averaging 23 years old, the Brooklyn Nets,
then the Washington Wizards.
Then it's the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Then you have the Portland Trailblazers, Orlando Magic, New Orleans, Detroit,
Houston Rock is Charlotte, and San Antonio comes in as the 10th youngest team at 25 years old.
So it's trending in that direction.
Let's talk about the players that we're talking about.
Do we see stuff?
And I'm just asking.
I'm not saying this is my definitive accent.
I'm just asking for the sake of the question.
Do we see stuff getting the team together next year to win the title?
LeBron or Kevin Durant?
Because those are the three that we're really talking about.
When we're talking about superstars and people still playing at a high level.
Stefan, pardon me, Stefan Curry,
LeBron James are Kevin Durant.
Do you see a title in any three of their future being that they're even all on the West Coast?
I do.
Okay.
Who you got in that?
Stefan Curry, because he got Porzinger's late this season,
but a healthy porzinger with Stephen Curry and a few other pieces could be dangerous.
That's the only one I could possibly see.
I don't know if they run through anybody,
but they definitely will be a formidable opponent when you can put up those threes.
Just anybody could consistent.
consistently hit threes is in the game.
They got a punch his chance, like a Mike Tyson.
It's not guaranteed that he wins, but he got a punch his chance.
And when you was talking about a young man's league, I remember Boston won it,
but if history serves us correct, they had a lot of old niggas on that team.
So they had, it's just the younger nucleus was Jalen, Jalen Brown and, what's his name, Tatum,
But how old is Tatum them?
Because I remember when, when, when, um, 20.
Any, like Jordan or anybody, they start winning championships by 26, 27.
So I think that's kind of young, but I don't think it's as young because when you think about the league,
you still got Cade and them going to be put out the playoffs.
Let's say they get, you know, by, by, by, um, calves.
That's an older team.
who else lost
my goodness
Orlando lost
they got put out
you know what I'm saying
so a lot of these younger teams
they don't when I say
as a young man's league
I will be thinking about championship
and you got two
but that I would need
I would need San Antonio
to win this year
San Antonio win this year
for me it will be officially
a young man's league
so if OKC
he wins, that's not a young man's league, just actually.
Yeah, yeah.
And if OKC win it, it'll be, it'll be officially a young man's league.
Well, yeah, that's what I was saying when I started my take.
I was saying that the primary players, and of course,
every team has to have some veterans,
even how you brought up Matt Barnes last time he was on the show.
You have some older veterans in there, absolutely.
You can't just have everybody not knowing.
But that's what I said, the primary players,
and I don't know what people consider all these days
because to me, 30 is, to me,
you reach your peak in your prime.
I'm talking about as physically as a man
and probably the best shape of your life, 28, 29.
I remember you was talking about Mace,
you quit the basketball team
because it was a nigga 28 in college.
Yeah.
You know what I'm just?
Yeah, and peak performance.
Yeah, so.
Playing with the college team.
Yeah, so at the end of the day,
we make fun of that shit now
when niggins in their 19th year
in school. This niggas going back to school now, 28 years old, and you got a nigger like
Rick Petino and John Kalapari losing their damn mind because niggins are going back.
But that's a great question, because which your criteria?
And I'm not talking about you. I'm just talking about it's a rhetorical question.
Which your criteria of a young player?
And the fans in the comments can let us know what the criteria is.
But for me, I was just thinking about the superstars that's around now.
I just don't see it.
And as good as Steph Curry is...
Oh, yeah.
As good as stuff Curry is, I agree.
I make sure he's got to punch his chance.
But the way Shay been disrespecting Steph Curry for the last four years,
it's just been bad.
It's been real bad.
And I'm not excited about...
Yeah, I agree.
I'm not proud to say...
I'm just more still talking about if he don't have to see
if he don't have to see O KC, like let's say they're on the other side
and they get beat by San Antonio, then he got a chance.
You get what I'm saying?
You know, like on the other side of the street.
You know, when certain players in the league, they start, like coaches,
they hope we get this team instead of that team in the playoffs.
And they start playing according to that.
They start losing games so they can be third seed versus, you get what I'm saying,
versus being second because they know they run into this thing.
Now, I understand what you're saying totally, but let's just think about this, right?
I'm not saying it goes like this every year.
Every year somebody's going to have a chance.
Somebody's going to get hurt, God forbid.
And it's just not going to go the same.
But let's just say, an injury-free fucking season, which is never going to happen.
OKC and San Antonio be number one and number two, vice versa, for a long time.
So you're going to have to bump into one of them on the way to see.
the other one. You know what I'm saying? If they continue
at this rate, one and two means you're going to have to see one of them
on the way up there. So listen. You remember like our coach
told us, he said, listen, you guys,
you should make it to the semifinals.
Yeah, that's a fact. You didn't know winning too many games. You're playing
you're playing Lincoln second round, you know? That's a fact. Listen,
Listen, as good as the Lakers are and the Celtics,
talking about the 80s, they didn't make it every year.
The Sixers crept in there a couple of time.
You got Detroit who ended up creeping in there.
So you're 100% correct.
It's not going to go like that every year.
You know, the only person who had it like that every year
was Michael Jordan until he took off and came back and did the shit again.
It's not going to be a foregoer conclusion every year.
Like I said, injuries play a big part in this as well.
I'm just giving a, you know, a scenario.
a fake world where it's no injuries, no whatever,
it's a problem, man.
These two teams are a problem, man.
And listen, it hurts me too, man.
It makes me sad.
I remember stuff Curry played for Davidson.
You think I watched it, like,
it lets me know how old I am,
watching these niggas get out of here, man.
You know, I'm sitting there, I'm sitting there talking
with Amman Shumper the other day
on first take and he was
telling me, and he's up there talking
basketball with me
and he was saying how
I remember I got my shine at LeBron
James Kent. And he's
and LeBron's still playing. He's on the side.
You know what I'm saying? And stuff
Curry's still playing and it's just
it just goes to show that
niggas, we're old enough
to see people come and people go
for us and
trust me, I want to see stuff Curry play for us.
too and LeBron and Kevin Durant and all these players.
But we'd be dumb to act like we don't see what's going on neither.
You know, we got players that's not even that old
that we'll see and get passed by.
We just talked about John Morant the other day,
all the players that we would take over him.
We just talked about Devin Booker, talk about
Devin Booker can't get us a damn game.
You know what I'm saying?
These biggings ain't even old.
So no season's foregone conclusion.
conclusion. I was just saying, you know, if we had a robotic season,
nobody hurt, no injuries, whatever, just given a scenario.
But no one season. Yeah. I was thinking about what you just said.
I think Stefan Curry could play the longest. He might be the player that could play the longest
amount of years because even when he gets older, he can still be a spot-up shooter
on a great team and on a championship team. Because you know,
He could shoot it better than Paxson.
He could shoot it better than Hodges, anybody, Corver.
And if he's, if five years from now, he still wants to play,
you can put him in the corner with AJ with the ball on any one of those guys.
Peters from Kansas.
And any one of those guys going crazy with Steph Curry in the corner,
it won't have to be on Golden State.
He could play anywhere because he can still shoot it.
That is true.
Yeah, I totally agree.
Listen, I remember Reggie Miller retired,
and Mark Cuban offered him a job.
He said, we got a job for you, Reggie here to marry.
Reggie was already announcer for two, three years.
So when you're a shooter, you're absolutely.
You're 100% right.
You always got a job.
But I would hate to see Steph Curry be Calcova, man.
That's why Kobe got out of here.
Kobe said I refuse to be Calcova.
Yeah, they're going to be like Mays buggin.
You know, but I'm saying.
You love the game.
You just want to stay around.
When you're a shooter, you can always have a job.
Yeah.
That is not, that is a guaranteed fact.
I don't care if you D.Lell Ellis, Calcova,
Reggie Miller.
Even when fucking Ray Allen retired,
they was begging him to come back for three, four years after he retired.
But it's just about, that's part of reason to me,
not even to me,
why they didn't give Carmelo a job, because they're like,
players respect Mello too much to be having him to be the tough man on the bench.
It's going to be awkward.
It's going to be mad awkward.
I want that.
Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
Real quick, because I do want to circle back to the young men,
because you guys both made great points because I know,
Cam, your argument is like, well, OKC's still young and then Mesa's like,
but all those players that were used to see and playing aren't where they should be.
I just think a lot of people aren't ready to say it's a young man's league yet,
just because it doesn't, it doesn't translate well
when you're used to watching your favorite players
because even just looking back at the average age
of the past teams, OKC was 25, Boston it was 27,
the Nuggets it was 27, then for the Warriors, it was 28.
And even just looking, even at the matchups
in the West versus the East, like obviously,
this is a very fun, exciting matchup,
not saying that the Knicks and Cavs won't be
because we know that's also going to be a great series,
but in comparison, that is the older series.
even though, again, it depends what you call older
because when you see ages 29, like, obviously that's not old,
but it's just where the league is now,
it seems like it when you're seeing, you know,
20-year-old players like doing what they're doing.
How old is Jalen Brunson?
Let me check, because he looks older, but he's not.
29.
Okay, so he's still under 30.
29, but then you got James Hardin, who's 36.
So it's...
Yeah, that's a great point.
So let's just say this.
If the championship come, if the championship trophy ends up in the West Coast,
then it is officially a young niggas game.
It's a young niggas for it because it's like the last three, the last three now.
It's not just two.
It's three strikes you out.
So all the chips keep coming to the West Coast, coming through the young guys is their league.
There's no more to talk about, you know.
is definitely no more to talk about.
This is the East Coast last chance,
and preferably through the Nix.
The Nix is the only team
can do something about it.
Really?
That's, and that's that.
So I guess in the comments,
let us know what y'all think
because y'all might completely disagree,
and that's cool too.
I just want to know
what you guys' perspective is as well.
So is there an appropriate time
to leak league news as an insider?
We will discuss after the break.
Welcome back.
Soxie winning
Mvince.
So, Shams had actually been the person to break that news.
And then it was actually revealed it was leaked because the announcement was supposed to be released on Prime and by the NBA.
So it was supposed to be a whole special moment that was leaked via Twitter.
A lot of people are criticizing him for the leak, and then some people are saying that he's just doing his job.
So, Mace, what's your opinion on it?
Do you see it as an issue with him leaking the news of SGA winning that MVP award?
No, he got to go with the news he got.
That's what makes him exclusive.
If he waits and let everybody else says it, then he wouldn't be Shams.
That's why you like Shams, because, you know, he comes with the report everybody wants and everybody needs.
this information and that's why him and what's his name started arguing on ESPN Steve because he
started saying you know people start putting them against him and I guess that was his little
man but his little man's guy went crazy so he got to just understand that he's going crazy right
now sometimes you got you got you got to let it be that way and I love when he does that because
he doesn't wait for anything if he got a report he's leaking it
cause he does that all the time.
I don't know why they're surprised.
They got a job to do.
I totally agree.
What you mean, save it?
Like, pause, I don't, you got to.
Yeah, save it and let them say it first.
It's crazy.
Yeah, so you got a job to do, man.
He's the inside.
That's what he's supposed to do.
No, I know to a lot of people that sounds silly,
but there's, like, a huge, like, other side.
Like, even, like, you know, Dremont makes his comment,
so I'm going to read also what he said.
He feels like it's embarrassing.
He said it makes our league look like we have no organization,
like that child's play.
It's the conference final.
You got all the motivation you need.
However, it is tough to emotionally see your guy get that award
and then reset and go play.
So basically, he just thinks Shams leaking it was embarrassing
because it makes it look as if the league doesn't have things straight.
But I'm assuming, based off of you guys' answers,
you guys totally disagree with that and think that he's just doing his job,
regardless of how it makes the league look.
What do you mean they don't have it straight?
What do they mean by they don't have to?
He says it looks like we.
have no organization. So I guess just it being said that this is going to be said on Prime
and it's going to be announced, everybody tune in, and then it being announced via social media
by another source and that source being Shams, it makes it look like they don't have their
things together. No, they did have their things together. He just beat them to the punch.
TMZ does this all the time, right? Somebody knows this has taken place, but TMZ got the news that
TMZ is not going to wait for Bossa.
TMZ is not going to wait for the Shade Room, right?
In the shade room, wait for TMZ.
Whoever gets the information, that's their story to run.
Yeah.
Well, shout out Shams, because, like, he's, I agree.
I think he's doing his job.
That's why I didn't understand much of the upsetness,
but a lot of people are mad about it.
But, hey, if you're the insider, you're literally the insider.
Okay, moving along.
Go ahead.
You know who wasn't?
upset. Shea wasn't
upset. I think it was
messed up for everybody else.
And I think it happened perfectly.
So then Wemby got upset.
Wemby heard about it.
When we heard about it. And then
he came there to the game
and got to see the
ceremony and it made him turn
up. He's doing
remarkable things. And that's
that we need more of this to happen.
This is the second time I've seen
Wemby like really get upset about how things go
that let us know that he's really he's really one of them.
Fired up.
Okay, enough said.
Now moving along.
So Cardi B. and Saffan were actually recently spotted
at his Diggs Deep Foundation's Mother's Day event.
Then she went viral actually for fussing him out
on the street outside in D.C.
So then after the video went viral, she went ahead and tweeted,
Sometimes I forget I'm a celebrity.
Like, damn, y'all ain't never cussed your baby daddy out when you're hungry.
So after seeing the video, seeing her tweet, Mace, what was your initial reaction?
And then have you ever had a damn?
I forgot I'm a celebrity moment.
That's crazy.
Of course I forgot I'm a celebrity moment.
But when it comes to Cardi B, nothing surprises me.
She's from the town, you know, so she's going to talk more spicy than anybody else.
You know, women from New York are a rare breed.
They don't make them like that nowhere else in America.
So I expected more than that.
When I saw it, I was actually let down.
She's Dominican.
She's of the Latin culture.
She's supposed to curse them out more than this from what I understood.
And what I've seen in the hood,
that was really just a mild one.
Pause.
That was crazy, but that was mild.
Mild fuss.
Cam.
And what happened exactly?
Yeah, she got caught going viral
because she was cursing out, Stefan Diggs,
outside. He was standing outside the car.
She was cursing him out.
And so then she went on Twitter and she said,
damn, y'all ain't never cussed out your baby daddy
when you hungry?
That was her response.
Cam, but it wasn't, it wasn't like child
support late cuss you out.
It was, it was,
you know
how when you get rich, you forget
how you used to be when you wasn't
rich. So to
people know when she wasn't rich, they
probably think that's crazy, but anybody
from New York know, that's not
the child support late cuts
you out. It would have been crazier than that.
Yeah, listen,
I didn't see it
to be totally honest with you.
and this is why
and Cardi B is dope
sexy personality everything
but this is why I don't deal with women from New York
I just don't
I don't I don't
I didn't stop I wasn't gonna bring that up
but I ain't want to line stuff
good good good
yeah guys
from New York don't date girls
from New York
they just don't because they know
what they're about to say
is not going to be good.
It's like...
Yeah, it's a fact.
Because a girl from New York
will punch you in your mouth.
Yeah.
As a guy.
Yeah.
Yeah, facts.
And I want you to hit them back.
Yeah.
Listen, I'm all right, look.
I'm not promoting any domestic violence
whatever whatsoever what I'm about to tell you.
My man was fighting his girl.
like a real fight.
And she kept hitting him,
and he punched her in the face,
and she stood there and said,
yeah, I eat those.
Yo,
it's Joe.
I tried to break it up.
She said,
nah, kill her, move.
Move.
They get it like a bitch.
I eat those.
I said,
was she Spanish?
No, she was black.
You know who it is.
I don't want to.
to say their name.
I'm just, I'm not going to say,
nah, nah, eat those.
That's not good.
That's not good.
And that niggard, like, a word?
Man, I'm like, nah, calm.
Like, I ain't going to get to the whole story.
It got crazy.
Listen, they got wild, my nigga.
But, yeah, I don't have time for that.
And then, like, they say,
forget the physical part.
the verbiage
Oh my god
Yo
You suck my dick
This is my bitch
You suck my dick, nigga
Forget it
Oh, man
But it's over
You never heard a bitch
You never heard a girl tell a guy
Suckers
Oh, I have
All the time
I started in New York
She started up there
Man
All the time
Yeah
Fuck out of
And then grab
They grab their crotch
Like a dixie
You so my dick
What?
Forget it.
Yeah, I'm out, man.
So then have you also had a...
So I got to, not to cut you up.
You're good.
I got to travel at a young age because of basketball, you know, play small fry, little lads.
Then, you know, being able not just travel for sports.
My aunt lived in California.
So I go there for something.
I'd be like, oh, woman is women.
I don't play me.
Like, feminine.
Yeah, look at this.
That's a real, this is, boy, I went to school in Texas.
I'm like, love girls.
Y'all loved it, though.
I did.
I don't know.
I'm talking about what?
You love, like.
You talk about New York?
Yes.
Because that's all you knew it at first.
What don't look like getting the argument,
grab her, grab, come on my faces,
grab, you know, some are dick, and she like this.
This is, this is, they ain't your face this much.
Yeah.
They like this.
You got it.
You can do not.
Tell you, you better calm down.
You better calm down.
It's like, what?
Okay, so last one before you wrap.
Then last thing, you can't even try and get them out your way.
Like, you can't even be like, yo, excuse me,
because then they fall over.
Oh, you hit me.
You know, I just tried to get out the way.
I denied you.
You're going to jail, man.
Now you're going to jail.
Now you're going to jail.
Now you're going to jail now.
And you know what?
And then you know what happened, Mace?
Because, see, you wasn't around.
Oh, Kim, you're a snitch.
You're a bitch-ass nigger.
Because I start going to get all the protections.
I know what to do.
I'm not going to.
I saw that.
I saw that.
Yeah.
Oh, you look at this bitch-ass nigger going.
No, no, no.
You won't get me.
Look at them.
Yeah.
Your favorite games to rap.
Yeah, going in the precinct.
Whatever.
Whatever.
I'm filing the report.
You got 100 feet to be from me, man.
That's that.
Sorry, Stack.
Did I ever have a moment that I forgot a celebrity?
Yes.
I was a while ago, but it ain't that I forget
that I'm a celebrity or somebody.
I don't like even using that word
that somebody people know.
It's just that I have my own rules.
I think I said on the show before.
It's only really two rules
that I don't take pictures while I'm eating.
And I don't take pictures while movies playing in the movie theater.
Besides that, I'll kiss the babies.
I hug to your wife take a picture.
Because my thing is this, is that imagine having to wake up to go to work,
to work for somebody that you know you're smarter than.
And you've got to listen to them for eight hours.
Like, yo, this nigger, here.
I know I'm smarter than this nigger.
He keeps telling me what to do all day.
So you got to deal with that for eight hours.
Not only that, you probably got to ride.
and a commute to get to work for an hour.
And I'm being nicer at an hour, an hour home.
So now 10 hours of your day,
it's spent driving and working for somebody
that you know that you're smarter,
and then you're not probably making that much money.
So if all I got to do is kiss babies,
take a picture, hug somebody,
hell yeah, I'm doing it, man.
I'm definitely doing it.
So that's how I look at it.
That's good.
That's very, very valid.
But we ain't cussing nobody out,
or none of that.
So love to hear that.
But shout out to the New York women because.
Yeah.
Yes, base.
Do you have any young New York girlfriends?
Yes.
Yes.
Some of my line sisters, shout out to them.
They're very, very bold, very blunt, very do curse everybody out.
There's a list of names.
And then AKAs?
No, I'm saying I have New York friends too
because they don't really watch sports
but they started watching the series and they were like, dang,
we're trying to figure out how we're going to this Knicks game
and they were like, dang.
I actually probably can't repeat this,
but they be plotting.
That's all I'm saying.
They be plotting.
And I was like, oh, my brain does not even,
very creative, very, very creative.
That's what I'll say.
Very creative.
That's what I'll say.
That's a great way to put it.
I knew there wasn't AKH.
I knew they wasn't.
Very creative.
They can't cross the line.
I love them bad.
They're not going to cross the line.
Love and bad.
As I said, shout out to New York women, because, you know, they don't be who they are regardless.
But y'all, that is all the time that we have for today.
Thank y'all for watching.
And as always, it is what it is.
