Welcome back to It Is What It Is. I'm Treasure Wilson, aka Stat Baby, along with your host, Mace, and Cam. Killer was good. Statt was going on. Beth, what's up, man? How you doing? Good, man. It's graduation week.

You know, I got to go to all of the graduations, you know, because of my duties. That's what's up, man. That's dope, man. Somebody who didn't graduate going to the graduation. man. Fire. That's why I got to ask them to show me the diploma. You know, people walk across the stage with just paper.

That's true. I said, son, I tried that one. That is very true. People definitely walk across the stage with just the paper in their hand. They ain't even let me do that. Got on shorts, Olaf shorts. And George is under the cabin. gown. Yeah, that's the fact, man.

He said why he's not dressed? Because I'm coming back next year. Yeah. I'll be in summer school and all that. Okay. So these games here, y'all, the Spurs, Cam, must be feeling good because last night

the Spurs B-OKC, 122 to 115 in double overtime. So Wembe actually made history by becoming the youngest player ever to record 40 plus points and 20 plus rebounds in a playoff game. So more than safe to say this game lived up to expectations. It was a great overall game. So Mace, when watching, what do you think surprised you the most about this game? Because there's a lot of things that

happened here. I mean, there was a lot of things that happened, but I like the fact that they went with the Harper. You know what I'm saying? I'm glad that they went with Harper because this is something I've been looking forward to all year, right? He's been coming off of the bench. But I know if he gets more minutes, this team is more dangerous than just playing them, like, as a six-man. If you give him, like, start a minutes, he could produce. And that was one of the major things. It was so many things that you could speak of. And this is the moment I was looking forward to when it came to Wembe.

I know that, you know, that OKC has a very dominant team. They got players that can come off the bench get 30. They got all of these players. I think that there's a lot of storylines here. First is Harper, then there's Wemby getting that 41. That's what he's supposed to do. He's 7.4. He's shooting from the four-point line.

And then you got Caruso showing up. But most of all, I think in this game, there's one player to watch out for. If he gets going, OKC is more dangerous. I think even in Jay Will, then that's Mitchell. If Mitchell gets going, this team is dangerous. but he just couldn't get going this game for some reason. He only had four points, and he's been a difference maker for the last 10 games or so,

even though, because Shea is going to give you what Shea is going to give you. Pause. He's going to be 20 to 26 to 30 every single game. I think Jay Will kind of coming back messed it up, even though he's a very special player, but the chemistry has been more of the other guy doing damage and Wayne Pauls. When he comes back, then he got to step back and take a different role. It's almost like what we've seen happen with Jordan Poole when he was with Golden State.

I think that's the same thing here in order for them to win, they're going to have to let the young boy go crazy. Whoever they found them, shout out to the scouts. That was a real good fine. Yeah. Me and Mitch coached these niggas last night to our first win in the Western Conference finals in 10 years, man. It was me and Mitch. First of all, let me tell you something right now. Don't ever give out an MVP trophy while we're on the floor. Don't ever in yellow, wait till we in the locker room, do the shit secretly, do the shit when we're not in the building. Do not hand out MVP's while we in the building or on the floor.

Because what Wimby should have did after the game, went right up in the locker room and said, because you give me my trophy. Let me get my trophy, because it looked like they gave the MVP to the wrong nigga last night. That's what it looked like. Don't have no awards and shit in front of us. You're violating.

That's first thing. Y'all straight up violating. That's first and foremost, man. We'll start there. Watch when you're hearing your awards, out your watches and your trench coats. Do all that shit secretly, nigger. It's a new sheriff in town, Shea,

and I'm a Shay fan. I still think you the best point guard in the NBA. It is a new sheriff in town, nigga. Nigger, yo, first of all, let's just start off with Wembe, man. Wembe is just doing shit that, like, fam, the shit he's doing. and just never see. Now, before I even get to Wendy,

I want to give both coaches a shout out, not just me and Mitch, but Dagnall, he did a great job. It was me and Mitch. You know, because Dagnall did a great job. This was a game of the minds because they would call it timeouts when they're supposed to, so on and so forth.

But Wembe was just doing shit that's not coachable. It was natural shit. Wembe comes down in overtime, the first overtime, they're down three. points with about 30 seconds left, he gets the ball where Steph had the ball when they be OKC at the buzzer.

He's Logo Wimby. Logo Wemby is crazy in overtime to send it to double overtime. Not only that, the 41 points, 24 rebounds, they were questioning his durability because they was trying to find games where he played at least 40 minutes. He played quick, 48 minutes, 49, whatever the minutes was. last night, 40 phenomenon, fucking amazing. And then you say the durability. There you have no durability.

Just coming off a six-game series with Minnesota, and OKC had all the rest that they needed. So shout out to Wimby, Allie Ups, the block shots. The not just, the stat that's not showing up, is because there is no stat for it. Him deterring shots. When you get to the room and you think about it like, nah, let me just keep dribbling.

Because I know if I get put it up, it's getting pinned. Wimby looked like the MVP last night. Shout to him. Like I said, it's so much shit that he did. It's unexplainable. So we'll just shout out to Wimby. It looked like he should walk right up in O'KC shit and take Shay shit. Let me get that.

I give it back when you deserve it. We'll start there. Secondly, this Young Spurs team look great, man. Double overtime. I disagree with Mace a little bit. We're giving a hop of the men. It wasn't about giving a harp in a minute. The Aaron Fox didn't play.

And when I'm looking at this, the turnovers, man, all I'm sitting there saying to myself, if the Aaron Fox was in the game, we would not have all these turnovers. Stephen Carrick would have more than 10 turnovers. I don't know if it was 11, 12, or 30. I stopped counting at 11 turnovers because I was so disgusted,

and that's why we had to bring them in when we caught the time out and calm them down a little bit. We had to tell the nigga, listen, calm down, you got 11 turnovers, and you're the primary ball handle. Same thing with Dylan Harper, same thing for sell. What's the term I'm looking for? Whatever it is, I can't think of the term, right?

Dead possessions, that's what I'm looking for. Dead possessions to when you're going down and you're not even getting a shot off, and I know Deerrin Fox would have definitely offset some of them turnovers. But I'm not mad at none of them. I'm not mad at Dylan Harper. I'm not mad at Vassell. I'm not mad of Shan Penny.

All those turnovers, and they stayed in the game, think about this, the Spurs played a perfect game for the first 44 minutes of the game. The first 44 minutes, defensively and offensively, She had about 10 points coming into the fourth quarter. You know, he got all this points towards the overtime and double overtime and towards the end of the fourth quarter. Defensively, they were tremendous against Shea. But you know, they had different, you know, OKC, they went on their run. 10-2 run probably the last, when it got to about four minutes, I'm like, look at these niggas.

They came and tied it up. These niggas played an absolute perfect game for 44 minutes. And I'm like, here comes the inexperience kicking in. This is where we need Deerrin Fox, even though Deeran Fox has never been to a Western Conference final. You can see the jitters kicking in. You can see the turnovers, the loose balls, the 50-50 balls they're not getting. And I was like, fuck.

But they held their composure. and when you got a 7-4 nigger who could do everything, that helps. That helps a lot. But I wish they were the, the spurs would have won this in regulation by 10 to 12 points total minimum if Deere Fox was playing and they cut the turnovers down. But Harper played tremendous.

And I love the passion for Mitch because Mitch is one of these coaches where he'd been cool all season. He's been real cool all season. Like you see him smiling, you see him. Even this game, he's cool. But when Harper missed an assignment, he went crazy. I seen the nigger yelling spit coming out of his mouth. So that's what, when we came in the huddle,

that's what I told him. I said, that's what we need from you, nigger. That's what we need. Lay the team, nigger, that's what I'm talking about. And then when Johnson, our sixth man at a year, he missed another defensive assignment and took an illivide shot. Sit down.

You know what, sit down. We ain't got time to play no more. We need to steal game one and get home court advantage back in our possession. So I instilled the power, Pauls, and Mitch, and he instilled it in the players, and that's why people were held a counterstatt. You'll have all you want.

That's why people were held accountable. Johnson, you'll have a seat. Dillon Harper, you, I'm gonna chew your ass out poor since you don't act like you don't know what's going on. Castle, what the fuck with the turnovers? Champagne, we don't need that shot. Let's need some time off the shot clock. Man, it was a tremendous game, man.

very, very impressive, impressive first game of the rest of the conference finals. Now, on the other side of the equation, they had Shea in check, boy. Our defense, we had some shit for him. We had some shit for Shea. Hey, we did. We had some shit for Shea. They got to the point where, you know, I've never seen this before. And I was smarter Dagno.

Because the double teams, they're putting on Shay right before he get to have court. The double team was coming. And then they was wasting the light. They wasn't necessarily turned the ball over, but they wasted a lot of time on the shot clock. What he did was sending the two and three guards all the way down the court in the corners on both sides so that way it couldn't be a double team.

And I'm like, that's some smart shit, bro. They're gonna get shade some time or some one-on-one time. So now the two and the three guard, when the ball's being taken out there, all the way down the court and the three-point line. And I'm like, that's fucking smart. Because they need to do something to get shade, some, um, some of them space.

Cause Shea was running in the black jerseys all night. All night now. You look at the, you look at the box score. You're like, oh, Shay, I got 24. He really had like 11. You know, he got his free throws, there's, you know, a little chip shots. He had about 11, 12.

2021 by two points. Chek got MVP. Paris lost to America. And they showed clips throughout the season of when Chet was Missed Frito. Wimby had grabbed the ball on Miss Frito. Like, yeah, he threw it on TV. Check, if it goes and looked at them

and took the ball back on if it goes. Chee, you got problems, nigga. You can look like, you can make me mug all you want. You got problems, man. I'm telling you that right now. I'm not mad at Jay Doug's return. Mace could be right about the chemistry being thrown off, everything else.

But I thought it wasn't. Absolutely. Yeah, but for me, my personal opinion, being that, being that, because he didn't get the minutes until niggas were struggling. Then he's like, yo, nigga, shade's in trouble. Let's get him in there. I thought he had decent minutes,

but I think the MVP for tonight for OKC was Caruso, man. Caruso was pissing me to fuck off. I'm sitting there like, he ain't going to make this three. Nah, he ain't going to make this three. Now, he ain't going to, who the fuck is you to keep making threes? And he's the one who kept their motherfuckers in it

moving forward. You know, he finished eight for 14 from three with 31 points, 11, 19 from the field. And I'm like, this nigger keep. making shots. Fucking Caruso, man. But big credit to him as well because he's the one who actually

kept them in his game. Dork with his big fucking cheating ass keep trying to elbow Wimby in the back. Oh, listen, all that shit was cool. But I'll tell you one thing, man. We did what we need to do. Pat to me, me, Mitch, Wemby.

De Arons should be back next game. Now, I'll say this. I do think this, that OKC is going to win the next game. The reason I believe I believe okay we're gonna win the next game. It's because we're off two days' rest on the six-game series,

six-game series with Minnesota. OKC has a lot of energy. They've been played for a week. And we played a lot of minutes, man. We had double overtime after come six games. It's going to be a little fatigue there. But we did what we came to Duke. We get us to a San Antonio.

because I think this will be something that we continue to analyze as we see these games because the Chet, Wemby matchup, we know it's going to be like the next big thing. Like, this is what people want to see. It's only game one, but you know how people are quick to move, especially when they see things happen. Mace, how do you view this chat?

Wimby matchup? Like, do you still view it as a real thing? Or does this kind of make you lose a little bit of faith? What's your opinion there on that just regarding seeing Chet and how you play? I'm really going to be honest. This chat, Wemby thing, and I'm saying this because I know, I know my boy going to say something about it. But this is like a, this is like, I don't even know who this is like, because Wembe is like levels above. Chet. It's like somebody, you and them used to be on the same page. And now it's like, what are you doing even by me right now? You know, that's how it, that's how it looked in that game one. It looked like this is somebody that everybody used to compare to me, but I've been in the

gym way more days, way more, you know, moments. And I think that injury with Chet really set him back. So he's like a year behind Wimby, when he used to be level to level with them. I don't think this is a matchup at all. I think this is like Jordan versus Patrick Ewing. This is like Paul George, God, and LeBron, it's inevitable. It's like, you know, this is going to turn into a bucket. This is going to turn into a series that he's won. And hopefully, they could prove me wrong. But right now, according to game one, that's how it's looking right now. It's looking like, It's looking like a foregone conclusion that OKC will not be repeating. They will not.

Not with what I saw in that first game. Because even when they went to OT, that says a lot. That says a lot. They're not home. They came to do what they came to do. And Wemby had a lot to do with it. When I see Wemby posting up, when I see Wembe going to the rack, I mean, he's shooting from four point range.

He is seven and four. they got to really figure out what they're going to do with Wembe. It's a big question. And, Cam, your thoughts? Does Chet Wemby matchup? Yeah, listen. See, see, think about it is this, is that even though San Antonio is so deep, it's like we know who the number one option is.

Chet's not the number one option on Oklahoma City Thunder. So when it's time for them to get a bucket, they're going to SGA. He may not be the second option when J-Dub is healthy. You know what I'm saying? So it isn't like you've really comparing the number one option to a number one option.

And even if Chet was the number one option, I don't think he could do anything about it anyway. I agree with Mace when he's saying the separation has grown, and paused between those two. It's a clear, clear differential in their games. at this point in time. And I don't even attribute it to the injury

because Chet got hurt one year, then Wimby got hurt one year. So they both been hurt for the same amount of time, even though Wemby played a little bit more games. I just think that Wemby has taken his off, you know, Wemby has taken his off, you know, we talk about this, not just with Wembe, I'm talking about in general.

Wembe has taken his off-season what he does in the all-season serious. I've seen him. working out with Akeem Elijah on. Damn, it was somebody else. I can't remember. He's working out with like two other NBA retired NBA players that were good.

Not only that, he's going to be mentally strong when he's, you know, when every time I see him at the free throw line, I think about him being a Buddhist. Like, he's taking a deep breath. He's taking his time. They were even mentioning last night how I know Greek freak is complaining because you know how they you're supposed to get 10 seconds

when you're at the line to shoot your free throw and they always used to complain Greek freak takes too long to shoot and Wembe may take 12 13 seconds to shoot this free throw he closes his eyes he breathes for a minute shrugs the shoulders takes his side open his eyes drool he really takes his time and I'm not even saying it to be funny I really believe that his mental is strong as well You know, even tonight, we talked about how he gave that elbow to Nasree last series. And we seen it last night, too. Not him giving elbows anybody, but he had to get the fuck off me. What's wrong, show, niggas?

He got that, yo, if y'all think I'm one of these niggas, y'all just going to be doing whatever, too. Y'all got me fucked up. All right, y'all think I'm so, all right, all right, be the next one to catch an elbow. That was the vibe I was getting from the niggas. Snat, yo, man, get the fuck off the ball. Even when the play is dead, he's taking the ball from niggas when the play is over. I think that, you know, I can't speak on it

because I don't know anybody who became a Buddhist, but it looked like it helped him be mentally strong. And, you know, gaining this experience, as time goes along, he looks really good. And I can tell by the disparity on OKC's face after the game that they were truly, disgusted because it's like, yo, if we have an answer,

it would be chat, but he doesn't seem like he's the answer. I would say 60% of the game, you had Lou Dort Garting fucking Wembe. I'm like, yo, Dort is fucking Garland Wembe. 60% of the

fucking game. So, yeah, I think it's a clear cut difference between them two games. As maybe three years ago, you'd be like this should be a good matchup for years to Carl. Yeah, great, great points. And yeah, Chet was kind of getting beat up. It was kind of like, damn, I don't know if anybody, like, that's why I'm even more nervous about the East just in general, because I'm like, is anybody going to have an answer for him? And then even if you think you have an answer, then on the outside, he can shoot a logo three. So he was just doing everything on all ends, which was crazy to see. But shout out to the Spurs for this first win. Before we move on, though, because there's a really cool stat here. So the Spurs actually rolled out the youngest starting lineup in all time history of the NBA conference finals. Harper's 20, Castles 21, Vesel is 25, Champagne is 24, and Wembe's obviously 22.

So their average age is 22 years old. So, Mace, do you think the NBA has officially become a young man's league? Are you not ready to say that yet? I'm really excited about what I see happening. This is the first playoff that we're getting deeper pause into the playoffs, and we're not seeing any of the big names we're used to. i.e. Kevin Durant, LeBron, who else we're talking about,

Steppen Curry, these are names that we used to for the last 20 or so years. Two of these players is going to be in the playoffs, if not, you know, one of them. And now that we're seeing this repeatedly, like last year we didn't get to see this, and, you know, them players at this level again.

And now what we're seeing, seeing right now with this team. It's just so unfortunate because this is a team. I don't know how they're going to be able to keep it together because there's so many young guys. And normally after people get these rings, they want to go other places because they now have that championship experience and they have those championship rings. This is a phenomenal thing to see, especially to get some young guys to buy in to a system this early is dangerous. You know what I'm saying? I know me in camp, we joke back and forth about, you know, San Antonio. It is, it's his team. But I think this is phenomenal what we're seeing happen with such young talent, getting these guys to focus on

the road. To get a, they get a first game in a Western conference final with guys that's 22 years old, 21 years old, that's remarkable. You don't get that with 34 and 36 year olds, you know, because it's so hard to come into somebody's house the first two games and take one, even though people have done it, it's very hard to do because these are champions. This is not just regular people that got to the playoffs. So I think it can become a young man's lead, but I'm not ready to say it is. Not just yet. Who's the last five champions stat?

OKC is younger than the San Antonio Spurs. Do they have more experience? Yes. But if you're looking at the youngest teams in the NBA, Oklahoma City is third, and San Antonio is tough as far as age is concerned for young team. I'll read it off as a whole. As a whole.

I'm talking about as a whole. I know you mentioned the starting lineup, but I'm talking about as a whole. The youngest team, averaging 23 years old, the Brooklyn Nets, then the Washington Wizards. Then it's the Oklahoma City Thunder. Then you have the Portland Trailblazers, Orlando Magic, New Orleans, Detroit,

Houston Rock is Charlotte, and San Antonio comes in as the 10th youngest team at 25 years old. So it's trending in that direction. Let's talk about the players that we're talking about. Do we see stuff? And I'm just asking. I'm not saying this is my definitive accent. I'm just asking for the sake of the question. Do we see stuff getting the team together next year to win the title?

LeBron or Kevin Durant? Because those are the three that we're really talking about. When we're talking about superstars and people still playing at a high level. Stefan, pardon me, Stefan Curry, LeBron James are Kevin Durant. Do you see a title in any three of their future being that they're even all on the West Coast? I do. Okay.

Who you got in that? Stefan Curry, because he got Porzinger's late this season, but a healthy porzinger with Stephen Curry and a few other pieces could be dangerous. That's the only one I could possibly see. I don't know if they run through anybody, but they definitely will be a formidable opponent when you can put up those threes. Just anybody could consistent. consistently hit threes is in the game.

They got a punch his chance, like a Mike Tyson. It's not guaranteed that he wins, but he got a punch his chance. And when you was talking about a young man's league, I remember Boston won it, but if history serves us correct, they had a lot of old niggas on that team. So they had, it's just the younger nucleus was Jalen, Jalen Brown and, what's his name, Tatum, But how old is Tatum them? Because I remember when, when, when, um, 20. Any, like Jordan or anybody, they start winning championships by 26, 27.

So I think that's kind of young, but I don't think it's as young because when you think about the league, you still got Cade and them going to be put out the playoffs.
