I'm Charjah Wilson, aka STATbaby along with your hosts Mace and Cam, and today we are
joined with our analyst Maurice Claret.
Mo was good. Killer was good.
What up y'all?
How y'all doing today, man?
Mo was good.
How you doing, man?
Where you at today Mo?
Life is great.
We all rubbing his hands.
I see my domain.
That, that Yukon had again.
Yeah, y'all discriminating, so I had to-
Women's.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Mo, conveniently, where's Yukon
when the women is in the final four?
It's mad convenient, man.
It's my coincidental, man.
It's a wild coincidental, Mo.
It's crazy.
Women in the final four, you can't have his back out.
I still title chat. I represent.
That's very valid.
OK, so the background looks good, man.
Thank you, man. Hey, just just to get it out the way.
Thank you for the contributions to the
To the song that you helped me pick out so you won't say that you didn't help me
You know have the song
established for the footer for the not for the residents for the office
So thank you, mr. Mason better before you sat and give you your credit
I just I just was saying it looked nice. I didn't say I did anything. I just was thinking
it does look nice. Well, thank you. I appreciate your input on the song for the facility, my brother.
Super dope setup, Marce. Okay, so we're gonna talk about, you know, the final four, March Madness,
all that, but just real quick, I feel like we got to start with this.
I know we said a lot about jaw and then the finger gun movements, all that.
He did get his lick back.
He got the game winner versus the Miami Heat.
So just in general, Maurice can let you go first.
What are your thoughts on jaw hitting the game winner basically going up after dapping
up his father?
How'd you feel about that moment that he had?
Well, I just like any moment where you have anything that's down to the wire.
You have guys being competitive and, you know, that's essentially, you know, what fans pay to see, uh, I just came back from Indianapolis, uh, the day before
yesterday and I had a chance to watch, um, uh, the Pacers play the Hornets.
And it was a boring game and you didn't have this much activity.
You know what I'm saying?
And you didn't have the theatrics and the entertainment that John Morant brings to the
game.
I'll tell you like this, when I seen him do the gun motion again, as somebody who's gotten
in trouble from guns, I say, you know, you play around in dirt long enough, you'll get
mud.
I wish he wouldn't play and tease people like that.
And he would keep it on the court.
And I heard y'all speak earlier this week when Kam was talking about him.
And I just wish that he kept his his his image is basketball play on the court
and go out there and pursue that and leave all the street shit and stupid shit along.
But, you know, I like, you know, I like anything that's going down to the wire.
And I like the entertainment, the theatrics and all that stuff that comes along with sports in general.
Nice.
Mase?
Yeah, I like the fact that he did the step back, little like a teardrop.
It was a good shot.
I didn't think it was that crazy though, but I'm happy that he responded with a great basketball gesture
Instead of using you know his fingers pause to do anything because right now
he definitely got a lot of eyes on and
I just wish him the best man. Like most said you play in the dirt
You you probably gonna end up in the mud, you know, but you know, I don't I don't think it mean a lot
Be in Miami now if he does this step back
Against the Lakers then it's gonna mean even more but I'm looking forward it to him doing that, you know
So shout out the job shout out to the family team around the whole the whole Memphis, you know
And I hope he keeps up the good work,
just playing basketball.
I think if he stays basketball-minded,
a lot of great things could come out of it,
but you know, just stay away from the done things.
Okay, Kim.
Yeah, I mean, like Mase said,
I think this was, I don't think that much of it.
He did what he's supposed to do.
You're the franchise player of the team.
The game is tied, it's 13 seconds left.
That's what franchise players supposed to do.
It's against Miami, they're in ninth place.
Niggas just dropped 52 on a nigga the other day.
Whatever, you ain't do nothing that you wasn't supposed to do.
Secondly, I, Mo, you may not have seen the show yesterday.
I'll support the guns now, I don't care.
The nigga I seen in Gilbert Arena, me and Gil was following each other. Me and Gilbert are supporting the gunshots now, and the grenades, and the bazooka if you want.
Whatever you want to do, go ahead and do it.
I'm with it.
Because if you don't care, we don't care.
As long as you can play,
as long as he can be on the court,
that's all I really want to see
if the nigga play basketball.
Only reason I'm here is because I'm here to support him.
I'm here to support him.
I'm here to support him.
I'm here to support him.
I'm here to support him.
I'm here to support him. I'm here to support him. I'm here to support him. I'm here to support him. I'm with it. Because if you don't care, we don't care. As long as you can play, as long as he can be on the court, that's all I really want
to see is the nigga play basketball.
Only reason I be scared is because I'm scared he gonna get suspended and we ain't gonna
be able to see him play basketball.
But guy, I seen Gil Gibbon recently.
God, take the grenade and throw it at the bench.
I'm with Gil, but I said this yesterday, Mo.
I don't care what he do no more. Now think about this, the NBA warned the nigga yesterday.
They said they didn't think that it was harmful,
but they didn't think it was appropriate
and the game were wanted.
And what we not talking about,
he did it again in the game against Miami.
He did the shit again.
He trolling the fans, he trolling the NBA.
How the NBA warn you until you chill out
and the nigga do it again?
Whatever, I'm with it.
I'm with it.
Long as he can play, you want to shoot up the bench,
you want to throw a grenade, you want to shoot the bazooka,
get ahead, I'm supporting it.
I'm with it all.
Far as the game winner, that's what you're supposed to do
when you're the franchise player, 13 seconds left.
And I thought it was dope.
But yeah, Ma, I'm also agreeing with you.
I like seeing good games. but Tyler Hero, Steph Curry,
52, gain one against, lose 52 point loss
against this person who played the same position as you.
And the game winner against Tyler Hero.
Whatever.
Yeah, let me say this, Kipa.
I know you said you're supporting it.
So if he get a fine, is this like the WNBA you paying the fine?
Nah, Jahmuram make way more money than the WNBA.
Jahmuram probably make more money in one game than the WNBA players make for a whole season.
Absolutely not.
And pause that, matter of fact, man.
That's a pause, man. It's crazy, man.
While we're at it.
Yeah, let's get a pause in there for that, man.
Okay, moving along.
You know, I just wanted to add some positivity.
I was like, game winner, but y'all have valid points,
so I can't even argue with that.
Okay, so getting into March Madness, the final four,
before we get into the specific matchups, just in general,
Maurice, are you feeling the hype around this tournament?
Do you feel like it's as entertaining
as the matchups last year?
How are you just feeling about the in general traction
around it?
Love that.
Mace, how are you feeling about the hype, the general traction around the matchups around it. Love that.
How are you feeling about the hype, the general attraction
around the matchups that we have going on for the women's and men's coming up this weekend and tonight?
I mean, for the guys, I'm really excited
because, you know, home team is there.
Florida is in it.
You know, I mean, what else did I expect? I think it should
turn out to be a great final four. I'm looking forward to it probably being Duke in Florida
playing for the championship. That would be really great. But when it comes to the girls,
I'm rooting for UConn and I'm looking forward to them getting
back to the promised land.
I know many people think that it's just a foregone conclusion that Don Staley and the
rest of them are going to win the championship.
And that should be what happens, but I'm going to go ahead and root for UConn at this time
and Paige. happens, but I'm going to go ahead and root for Yukon at this time in page.
Okay. And then Maurice, just in general, how are you feeling about the hype around the
matchups for men's and women's? Do you feel like it's as entertaining or do you feel like
it's not? What are your thoughts there?
Well, of course, you know, I'm rooting for the women when it comes to Yukon. Page has
basically taken that slot that are the spotlight
that Caitlin Clark had last year. You know, before her injuries, she was projected to be the next
take in Clark, you know, all the hype with the Gatorade deals that she had and just the phenomenal
freshman season that she had. She was looking to build upon that. So I would like for her to go
out here and for the UConn brand for them to win and have a championship back in title town.
But for the man, I'm from just looking at, you know, just watching Florida play, looking
at Houston, understand that they're just a strong team defensively. I've never seen Auburn,
but I watched Duke. I think Duke is the favorite. I think that you just have matchup problems
when it comes to Duke. You know, in college, it's a lot different. You know, you have,
you know, one player who can make an entire difference in the game and
the trajectory of the tournament is going in Cooper Flags way. So I think that Cooper
flag and the Duke Blue Devils will reign supreme at the end of the season. And I think Yukon
will end up pulling it out and upsetting Don Stehly and them down the road.
Yeah, listen, man, this this speaks volumes to the committee, to be honest with you.
I'm talking about the committee that does the seedings every year.
Is some teams mad like, yo, we didn't get the one seed.
Why are we seeing the number eight?
They'd be so mad at the committee every single year.
And this is just to me, credit to the committee
because you have four number one seeds with the men
and then you don't have four number one seeds,
but you got to think about this.
USC was the one seed and Juju's not playing.
So you could have had potentially four number one seeds
with the women as well.
And I want to give the committee credit
because they take a lot of slack
when it's time to seed for seeding.
Far as the men is concerned, listen, man, everybody's Cooper Flagged out.
I see what he's doing. He's an outstanding talent.
But Auburn and Bruce Pearl and them dudes been doing their thing all year.
I'm not sure exactly who's going to win this game.
I mean, the final four, but you have four number one seeds.
If I have to pick today, I'm going with Florida.
Florida looks really, really good as a team.
I like Bruce Pearl a lot as a coach. That's why I'm going with Florida. Florida looks really, really good as a team. I like
Bruce Pearl a lot as a coach. That's why I'm kind of rooting for Auburn. And I definitely
like what Duke is doing. Houston's no snitch, doesn't sneeze. Hey, listen, this is great
Final Four for the men. But if I had to pick to give you an answer stat, I'm going with
Florida. As far as the women's concern, I'm rooting for Dawn Staley, but they don't look dominant.
When I see, I watched their last two games
and they won those games,
not because of the talent on the floor.
They won them games because Dawn Staley
is an outstanding fucking coach.
She did, she was taking players out, playing players in,
that I was saying, now you gotta put her back in.
She was, she did an outstanding job,
but they do not look
dominant at all. Not at all. My pick for the championship is the number one overall seed.
And that's why I'm wearing these colors today. UCLA. Nobody could fuck with Lauren Betts.
Lauren Betts is a fucking problem. There's no player right now that's left in the tournament
that's better than Lauren Betts.
Only problem is she got to stay out of foul trouble.
She's too big.
She's a bully and she's a problem.
If I have to make it, if I have to pick somebody today, I'm going with UCLA.
Nobody left in women's college basketball that's playing is better than Lauren Betts.
I'm going with UCLA to win.
Okay.
Solid takes. And then just in comparison to this year versus last year,
Maurice, I'm going to let you go first.
Which do you think is more entertaining,
the women's matchups or the men's?
Cause I know last year we were talking about,
we're all in for the women's.
Like obviously they had a lot of key players
that were very entertaining to watch.
Do you feel like that same energy is there for this year?
Or do you feel like, you know, that change has happened and it's going to kind of be hard
to kind of pick that momentum back up like they had last year?
What do you think Maurice?
I think you, I think the, what they built on last year with Caitlin Clark, uh, Angel
Reese and, and to Cam's point and what they had going on in South Carolina, it was just
great storylines, uh, for women in general.
And the things that Caitlin Clark was doing last year, I brought a bunch of attention what they had going on in South Carolina. It was just great storylines for women in general.
And the things that Caitlin Clark was doing last year,
I brought a bunch of attention.
The things that Angel Reese was doing,
I brought a bunch of attention there
for California, South Carolina to go and win it.
It was just a good story.
And I think this year you picked up with Paige,
you picked up with Juju,
the girl, what is her name, Lauren Betts from UCLA.
I think that you actually have momentum around women's sports in general. And I didn't know I didn't know
the woman's name, but I've seen her everywhere. And, you know, thanks, Cam,
for letting me know her name, but I've seen her be like a dominant force to
highlights and everything else. And so I think like the women's the women's
game is in a good place. I don't know who comes after this. Or I don't know if
these women's are I don't page may leave, but I place. I don't know who comes after this or I don't know if these women's are, I don't page may leave, but I know, I don't know who comes after these women
in general. But I think the women's game of basketball due to all of the success that
Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese and Flonjay and all those girls had, I think it's in a great
space and I think Don Saleh is a great representative for college basketball in general. For the
men's I was happy last year because we were winning.
And no offense to these guys now, I just stopped paying attention once we got lost.
But in somehow some way, I just think that I don't like, I ask myself this,
do we care about the women more because they stay around longer,
you end up watching their careers and you become fans of them?
But when it comes to men, you know, if you're a good player, if you have potential and you could develop into
something, most of these guys leave.
So I think like more more of the emphasis, even when you hear Cam talking
around the coach rather than the players and it's around coaches doing a good job
and the coach being the personality of the brand and Rick Catino being the
personality of the brand and taking older players.
And so I have less interest just because I don't know the kids
names outside of Cooper flag.
But I just wish you guys that's it for the man.
And I think that's all I'm trying to say.
Wait, wait, wait, before we go any further,
did we just say Cam say he's wearing the baby blue because of UCLA?
We can't let that slide.
Why can't we make it?
It's crazy.
Talks about me was jumping from me having on that color stat.
I know you're not
For for a woman's team UCLA, he's never said anything about UCLA women's
Basketball, he's been done. Staley. He's been said anything about UCLA women's basketball. He's been done stally.
He's been wearing the maroon.
But I'm not buying this that y'all can mute me if I'm going.
It's Friday morning.
It's too early for this. It's's too early for this.
It's way too early for this.
And Mo, you sat there saying nothing.
Did you just going to overlook this and turn a blind eye?
What's going on?
I played the fifth.
Yes, like what happened to Juju?
Killer, what happened to the little girl must see TV
from South Carolina?
He just advanced everything.
I heard two years ago.
Yeah, you talking about for Ruckus.
Ruckus, you know me?
Yeah, no, the little girl.
Remember last year from, she was a freshman
on Don St Stanley's team stat
I know you remember this you better not be over there acting like you do the fun God all of them colorblind
I don't see any color
You know, he will see no evil but back to the back to the back to the question that No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, basketball more exciting or women they're both they're both exciting at this point we would have loved to have juju here everybody from it is what it
is we wish her well wish you get better but since she's been going it's been a
page-a-thon the trophy is coming back home to Yukon baby they gotta come back
to title town I don't know why more acting like he's on the girls team now. He that that's been my team
Page has been the play I talked about now because his group is out
He don't want to jump on the bandwagon. I just I'm out of this. I'm out of it
I'm out of it. I'm out of it. Yeah'm out of it, killer. I'm out of it.
Yeah.
Well, listen, man, to be honest with you,
this is actually a Lakers hat.
It just, I'm just, it's a Lakers hat, to be honest with you.
But the thing about it, Murda, that's what happens.
I didn't, I didn't, I didn't see the time.
When Moe come, when Moe does the show,
I don't look at the topics,
because I like to give spontaneous answers,
because a lot
of this, I have no idea what we're going to talk about today.
But when the universe just works the way the universe works, that's just the way it is.
You understand what I'm saying?
It's just the way the universe works, my nigga.
I didn't plan on this.
I'm just telling you the way the universe works.
I had no idea what the topics was today
because Mo brings topics where I like to be spontaneous.
I don't want to study for them.
I want you to get a natural reaction.
But if I got on UCLA Blue,
I just happen to have on UCLA Blue.
I don't think you ever see Lauren Betts play,
to be honest with you.
Have you ever seen Lauren Betts play murder?
Universe was killed. play to be honest with you. Have you ever seen Lauren Betts play murder? Universal Studio.
Universal Studio.
Universal Studio.
Universal Studio.
Universal Studio.
Universal Studio.
Universal Studio.
Universal Studio.
I'm just saying, I didn't know we had these topics. I like to be spontaneous when spontaneous with Mo's on the show if I got on UCLA blue it this it is what it is I
Think that that and listen to be honest with you. I've never heard you talk about page. What's a lot?
I don't even know you know a last name. What's the last name?
Come on, Killa, I don't got time. Yo!
Exactly. This is what I'm saying.
This is exactly what I'm talking about.
Last name is Bekkerz, just in case you didn't know.
But we're going to assume that you knew.
This is what I'm talking about.
This is what I'm talking about.
Secondly, I fuck with Paige Bekkerz,
but my problem with Paige Bekkerz is my...
And I'm not giving her no slack that I'll give everybody else.
This is her 19th year at UConn.
All right.
She's been there forever.
How many damn years does she get to play?
She been there COVID years.
She get hurt, get the step out because red shirt, cause she hurt.
Come back again, get 40.
Last year, she's actually holding up some shit talking about they're going with I don't know if it was a time
or whatever it is she's holding up a plaque on senior night.
2024 on senior night when she should have been a senior the
year before that. But then she's senior night last year. Talk
about I just want to let y'all know because of red shirt,
COVID. I still got your eligibility and I'll be back.
Now, Paige don't get no props for me.
Now, she bustin ass.
Absolutely. She had a 40 point joint in the semifinal before the sweet 16 or the lead eight.
Sweet 16. OK, whatever.
What? She had 40 in the tournament.
You should be playing against little kids, Paige, your old ass.
Fuck is you talking about?
I don't give these players,
these six, seven year players no damn credit.
If they be in the system, congratulations to you.
Your oldest fuck playing against these little girls.
You're getting no credit from me, my nigga.
You should win, to be honest with you.
They should be winning.
They should win.
Katelyn Clark bust ass last year, sent her home.
Anyway she's 23.
Yeah well.
Exactly.
That's my point.
You can't be 24 when I grew up and be fucking playing.
Anyway back to the answer to answer the question.
Look I agree with Moe.
I think we're falling in love with women's college
basketball, at least I am, I can only speak for myself, because they do stay around longer.
I totally agree with that. These niggas is good at not staying around. Imagine Cooper
Flagg staying four years. They would call him all type of idiots. You dumb motherfucker,
what the fuck are you doing staying for four years when you're going to be the number one pick after your first year?
Great players these days leave, as far as college is concerned, leave to go pro.
And then what happens is with men's college basketball, if you stay two, three years or four years, you're considered not to be as good because they're like,
why didn't you leave after one year, two years? You should be able to be older. So you don't get familiar with the college player. That's really
good. Back to what you also said more was a great point is that, uh, where Rick Patino
is doing, I like where Rick Patino is doing, I guess he tied the deal and I L and young
players want this and that. And he said he's not going after any more young players.
He's probably going to get kids out of Juco
or different places that's older,
that's not looking for the bag to get a bag
and get out of there.
And what's going to happen, in my opinion is,
there's so many good players in junior college, bro,
that just didn't pass the SATs
or didn't meet the requirements academically.
And they are really, really good.
I can name a list of people just in the Texas Eastern Conference that I played.
Well, I didn't play because I got hurt and I ain't no rush hurt and then, you know,
rest is history.
But I'm just saying the conference alone has Steve Francis and Ash Shawn company.
When I was going there and looking back on it, it was like 11 NBA players that came out
to Texas Eastern Conference, the junior college and went on, you know, Steve Francis went
to Maryland and everybody else transferred.
And if Rick Martino executes this, these kids are going to be in trouble because you're
going to be playing against niggas 21, years old 23 these days 24 possibly and then you're gonna be 18 and
You're gonna be good
But these niggas are gonna be grown men and they're gonna have a problem and they're gonna have a problem with you thinking you
The shit far as the woman's concern
Back to the woman. Yeah, like you said, they stay around.
Think about this. If this was men's for women, they did women like they did men.
Juju would have been out the first year.
Caitlin Clark would have been out the first year.
Angel Reese would have been out the first year.
We get to see them stay for four years because not only that,
they get an endorsements with NIL that they eat and they're like, okay,
we can stay in college.
We don't need to go grab that money from the NBA because no disrespect
It hasn't got to the money where women should women are comfortable
They might be making more college than they make it in the NBA depending on what who you are as a superstar
Okay
Yeah, I want to say two things. One one hundred percent they're making more money in college than they will be in the
WNBA just because you have larger college fan bases and you have you know 60, 70, 80,000
people showing up to college arenas or whatever it may be.
Watch these kids play college basketball, not 60, 70,000 maybe like 10, 12, 13, 14,000
whatever it may be.
And so they get better endorsement deals and they have more marketing ability from these universities than what they would be
if they went to a NBA team. That's one.
But the second part of this is the same thing in football, too.
And I just noticed from being back in the round of Ohio State,
they would rather go get a player who's play.
And I'm speaking about offensive lineman in particular with this.
Coaches would rather go get a player whose play and I'm speaking about offensive lineman in particular with this Coaches would rather go
Recruit or get somebody who's played 40 starts and so their benchmark is like hey
Can we go get somebody from a smaller tier school who's had 40 starts to bring to our team and transfer in?
Rather than take this kid who was 18 with potential and we don't know if he'll be good or not
And so it's not just going on in basketball. Basketball is a little bit more notable because
it's a lot less players, but it's the same thing with football. You know, they're doing the same
thing with football players and they're not going to high school kids. All that, you know, if you had
a bunch of potential and you were just a big kid and you happened to land on the campus,
that's a lot less likely to happen. They would rather filter you out through some of your mid
majors or some of your lower level schools. And so, just so people don't want football season coming around, you'll be having
the same conversation. Okay. Real quick, I just have to add before we move on, Dan, you just tried
the heck out of Paige Becker talking about she old and it's like, I can't even be mad because
Cam would keep the same energy for the men's because we had this whole conversation with the dudes in Miami doing a fifth year. But, but, but, but Paige did have a lot of injuries. She
finally got back healthy. I have to stick up for her in this situation because she's
still a great player. She's broke a lot of records and overall she's a nice human being.
I have to put that out there. We're not gonna make it personal, but I'm just saying, because damn.
I never said she wasn't a nice human being.
No, I know.
That's why I said I'm making it personal,
but she is still a great overall player.
I know she is older.
I get that.
Juju Walker is 19 years old.
She's a teenager, yo.
Yes.
She's a teenager, yo.
Yes, and everybody's stories are different,
but in this instance, I'm just gonna say, damn!
Yeah, obviously.
Damn!
You call it, because you got a 37-year-old nigga
in the University of Miami coming in to play this season.
Nigga, 39, your old linebacker for UM this year,
coming in, talking about injuries, this, that, that.
Nigga, I think the nigga literally
didn't know exactly what he 32.
That ass looks like 30.
He played nine years.
He played nine years.
He's 30, 30 years.
What the fuck are we talking about, yo?
Yeah, you cool with that shit.
I'm mad.
You know what?
He's 26.
You know why I'm really mad?
Cause we could never get away with this.
Where was this rule at?
This rule was not around when we was planning
to have all these different reasons to be sick of it.
Get one red shirt year and that's it.
If you get her to get next year, oh well.
You couldn't have two red shirt years.
Where was these diseases?
Wasn't no COVID.
Get the flu, you get the flu, nigga.
That's that.
Nigga, you got the mumps, the measles, chickenpox.
Oh, well, your eligibility won't stop.
The clock is running.
It's all good.
I just think that it's crazy.
Mase actually mentioned this when he was in college,
that a 30-year-old nigga joined the team with some wild shit
and it's dead ass, BT.
Nigga said nigga was 30 years old, joined the team.
You know what a disadvantage that is for an 18 year old
if you're still in good shape at like 28, 29?
You're not fully developed at 18.
Now everybody's not LeBron James,
everybody's not Cooper Flagg,
everybody doesn't have a man, poor's body.
Yet you really develop out about 22, 23, 24
as a full grown man.
Your playing against kids is not right.
If you get away with it, get away with it.
Yeah, he's talking, he's bringing the ball up,
going like this.
We like of course, nigga, you're 30 years old.
You know what I'm saying?
I'm mad, I'm on the floor with this nigga,
cause he's wasting people. Like, this nigga's like with this nigga, Paul. These white people.
Like, this nigga's like 50 years old, man.
Yeah, man.
Which?
Has anyone ever had a bagel with Paige?
A what?
Have you ever had a bagel with Paige?
A bagel?
Yeah, brunch, breakfast, lunch.
Do you know her?
Yes. Personally, as a friend,
friend is a loose term, but I do know paid. Yes.
How do you know her? Let me let me know.
What do you mean? I do suffer the WNBA.
So like they had WNBA all star WNBA draft like I know the players. Yeah, she's not the WNBA. So like they had WNBA All-Star, WNBA draft. Like, I know the players.
Yeah, she's not in WNBA yet, but of course.
I'm just making sure, you know.
No, man, I gotta ask more.
Maybe like y'all hung out before you and Paige?
I've hung out with a lot of players before.
I just asked a question, Stacey.
Yes and no. Did you and Paige hang out?
Yes.
That comment is not, not even worth it.
That's not true because we comment on people
that we've all hung out with before.
But I'm just saying in this instance,
to say that she's, just to say that she's old,
she's only 23.
A lot of even football players,
when they go to the league, they're 22, 23.
Yes, I understand a fifth season, it sounds crazy.
But in this case, I just,
I just don't feel like.
Myrna called me out for my relationship.
Me and Mo was actually on the show last week saying
that we biased for certain people and me and Mo admitted it.
So I don't mind you being biased,
but if she ain't gonna pick up the phone for you right now,
I wouldn't be going this hard.
But nigga, I'm talking about I can text right now.
I mean, I can send a text too, but I'm not gonna do that.
Don't do that unless she hits you back.
Let's do that. Let's do that.
This isn't busy. It's no.
Let's do that. Text her right now.
It's tournament time.
Text her right now.
It's tournament time.
It is tournament time.
Nigga, send me back to the championship.
I'm just saying.
I get responses during game six and all that at the championship. I'll be texting people during no championships, no tournaments, no none of that. I'm just saying, I get responses during game six and all that at the championship.
I'll be texting people during no championships,
no tournaments, no none of that.
But I could, if I wanted to, I'm just not gonna do that.
I bet you a thousand dollars to get one dollar,
she won't hit you back before the show over.
That's in like, okay, time wise.
Oh!
I'm not even.
Oh!
Yeah.
Why are we doing that?
I'm just saying.
I just had to throw that in there.
Cause I just feel like 23 is not that far off.
26 and above, even 25 and above, yes, it's pushing it.
Cause we had a kicker on Miami who was like 30.
It's OD cause why are you 30?
Mace made a great point.
I think because I know, and I'm,
and you guys, I'd like that you stick it up for your women friends and all that. But Mace made a point point. I think because I know that, and I'm, and you should, I'd like that you stick it up
for your women friends and all that.
But Mace made a point, I don't know,
couple of weeks ago, I don't know how long ago it was,
and it's dead serious when you're an athlete.
One year matters.
One year matters, especially in high school.
I always say, if I had one more year high school,
know what I'd do to these niggas?
So if one year matters, two, three, four, five years don't matter.
One year matters.
It matters.
I swear to God, I used to be, when I was graduating from high school, I was like, damn, if I had
one more year.
You know what I would do?
You'd have to pay one more year.
Yeah.
You'd have to leave.
Look, and Axl and both of y'all is athletes and former athletes. And we didn't play to be honest, which we didn't even play on the level Mo play that but does want to y'all just a question I could just be feeling this way. Does one year matter to y'all?
It's the volume of reps that you get. You've had more practice, you've studied more film,
you've just had more experience
and that just shaped your mentality.
So 1000%, you know, one more year matters.
And not only that, to add on to that more,
cause you'd be like,
I kill these little niggas next year.
I wish these niggas, that be niggas mentality.
I'm just saying, what you feel about it Mason?
Yeah, one year is the difference between being honorable mention and all-American. Right.
And just with one more year, person like, what he's figured out this season, if he was
to come back next year, he would be an all-American.
And if he's already an all-American, he'll be a once in a lifetime talent with just one
more extra year because of the caliber of detail that he understands now.
Like you take Mo's situation, if Mo comes back another year, he's just running around
pausing niggas like, why are y'all even out here with me?
You know what I'm saying?
Because he was already going crazy like that so another year of already knowing what they're
trying to do with his notoriety with you know every confidence growing so when
you see somebody that get three and four years it's almost like how you was
playing in 12th grade cam if you was a freshman in 12th grade.
That's what I was trying to get at.
That's my point.
Because we always used to say it, man,
if I had one more year.
But you know what happens?
These niggas getting two, three, four extra years,
and it's no big deal.
Two more years, nigga, we done had Mike Shajasky.
This is true.
We're going to extend the discussion.
Would you forgo the drive for another year of college?
We will discuss after the break. She call this thing about toxic Four years and counting
Got you feeling like option
Maybe I'm my own problem babe
She tired of hearing I don't know
What's happening to me won't fall
Killing with this thing called trust
But she really thinking about wanna be free Welcome back. Now let's get into our underdog picks of the day tonight. The Mavs will play
the Clippers. Underdog has Anthony Davis at 21 and a half points. Do you have him higher
or lower mace?
Got to go higher. Anthony Davis is back.
I like the new Anthony Davis pause.
He's playing like I always knew he could play and I'm happy to see it.
Hey, Kim.
My bad repeal, because I'm the airman Lauren Betts right now.
I'm going to find me and Lauren Betts going to get together.
We don't figure this out.
You want to see who get on the show quick as a challenge right now. Just toast. I don't figure this out. You're gonna see who get on the show quick. It's a challenge right now. Just toast.
I don't know Lauren best from nowhere. She knows pays back.
Let's see who can get the who first. Okay, let's go now.
Challenge accepted. Anthony Davis is at 21 and a half points
you have higher versus the Clippers.
Clippers is my sleeper team. Listen, the Clippers. Clippers is my sleeper team.
Listen, the Clippers.
Now listen, we know OKC is favorites right now, but Clippers looking like they may slip
in that seventh for AFC.
I don't know if I want to pay to play the Clippers in the first round.
Kawhi Leonard is really sneaking that pause on people, man.
And we see what James Harden's been doing.
Listen, man, the Clippers need to be,
yo, like, what's that name again?
Norman Powell?
Norman Powell be in the gym?
That's what I'm trying to say.
Before the season started,
Norman Powell be in the gym out here.
So I seen Norman Powell knocking these shots down
right before the season started. I'm like, yo, these NBA niggas, they just be gunning. They, they
have to, but I know, Norm Powell should have been all star this year to just
pass. He's kicking ass, man. Yeah. Yeah. He from out here. All right. Well, he'd
be out here. I see nigger right before the shit started. Uh, Anthony Davis is
definitely looking good. I agree with Mase. 21 points, you said?
Yeah. Yeah.
You want to have to see the problem is, you know, our underdog is slick with this.
We don't know if Anthony Davis is going to get hurt.
He got hurt last game and just ended up still playing this.
This is the only one joke about it no more for real,
because this this got to be the worst luck ever.
And for a nigga that this good, I can say, there's been a lot of niggas.
We got niggas who's just Brandon Roy,
a bunch of niggas who can play.
More of the story is,
that's tough because underdog knows something.
Take no sudden it's going to happen
because 21 points should be a given for Anthony Davis.
Go higher, I'm going with Mace.
I'm going to go higher, man.
Okay, Kawhi's at 33 and a half points,
rebounds and assists. It's another go higher, man. Okay. Kawhi is at 33 and a half points, rebounds and assists.
It's another good one, man.
Because Kawhi averaging right around 20, 21 points.
He letting Norman Powell and James Harden basically do what they do while he's working
his way back in the system.
But he's due for one of them 30 point nights.
And I know this is points points rebounds and assists.
I'm going to go higher.
I'm going to go higher.
Okay.
Mace.
I'm going to go lower.
Cause I think, I think, um, he'll get righteous under that, under that number.
Okay. And James Harden is at nine and a half assists.
Do you have them higher or lower Mace?
Um, higher.
And matter of fact, I'm going to go.
I'm going to change that last one to higher
because now that I thought about it,
it'll probably be like Klay Thompson on him.
So he definitely will get that number.
What about the next pick?
James Harden. So good. When I'm going to lower James been boogieing, he been scoring second link to score on the
team.
Okay.
Make sure you guys download the underdog app and you can make your picks too.
So kind of like Maurice was saying before we went to break, how he was saying you can
make more money in college than basically
going to the draft and going to the WNBA. So there's like a big story right now that
kind of like shook up the draft boards because Notre Dame's Olivia Miles, she was the projected
number two pick in the WNBA draft, which is obviously coming very quickly. She decides
to forego the draft and enter the NCAA transfer portal. She's using her one year remaining of college instead of going to the draft.
So Maurice, if you were in her shoes
and I know money is like a big part of it, too,
would you go second overall in the draft or would you stay in college for another year?
Oh, money is the only thing
with a situation like that.
And it's really just mathematics.
And I don't think I explained it well the first time,
but these WNBA teams don't have fan bases.
So it's hard to get products or anybody to align themselves
with these kids once they go to the WNBA
to actually pay them for something
because they don't have the commercial visibility.
You don't have them on commercials.
You don't do anything locally throughout the community.
And for the most part, the only value is actually them playing on the court and they make a
lot less playing in the court than what they do in college.
There's another factor that people aren't realizing next year, the NCAA is doing revenue
sharing with college sports.
So this girl knows that she's created value for herself.
And I'm pretty sure she has a manager and agent. And they'll say, Hey, you know, after this year, you can go and be second pick
overall the next year, but you have more earning potential because you'll be of
some value to another college somewhere. And so I would 100% stay.
These women have large fan bases. You know, we just went here and gave you an
example of how the women's sport in college has increased just from your
Caitlin Clarks, your Lauren Betts, your Paige Becker and all those other people. So I would say
just because women college basketball is a lot better than WNBA basketball.
Hey Mase. Wow, wow, wow. I mean it's too much money they're getting in college to actually
entertain the WNBA right now.
Before people used to rush to the league because it was their only option.
Now with the type of money that they can make, it's almost like the WNBA is like, I'll get that when it's time.
But for now, I'll put all my focus down here.
I think if I, if I was her manager, I'd definitely be trying to get her into a bigger market
Even if even if she's gonna stay another year, it would be great to be LA. It would be great to be in California
You know one or one of those top top
Ten cities, you know that the Texas, I mean, states, the Texas, the Chicago's.
I mean, Illinois, you know, the top the top 10. Yeah.
That could give a more brand visibility
and and probably lead to those kind of commercials.
Because when you start talking about commercials and things like that,
surely could fly you out.
But many people that live in California and different places know it's much easier when
when there's a three o'clock call for the gig and you're right down the street as that's
going to happen way more often than somebody flying you in to do it? Yeah, it's definitely money driven, 100%.
And it's a little personal too, from what I was,
I wish, like I said, I don't really read when Mo
sends up because I like to be spontaneous.
But I was looking at something about the story
a couple of days ago when she made the decision.
Now look, Mo made some great points.
I've I've everything I most said.
I would have said is definitely money driven.
But not only that, she didn't play good her last game.
She's supposed to be the number one, number two pick
projected to go on the WNBA, but she didn't play good.
And I think Coach Bench does some shit like that, if I'm not mistaken.
And she like word. So because she wasn't playing, I think she Coach Bench does some shit like that, if I'm not mistaken. And she like word, so,
cause she wasn't playing,
I think she shot three for 17, something crazy.
I'm just, I remember watching this story
a couple of days ago.
And she like, I don't give a fuck if I'm three for 17,
we wouldn't be here without me.
Let me be three for 39, pause if need be.
I ain't even wanna play on my name,
I'm gonna go on the transfer portal. Not only that, a lot need be. All right, you want to play on my name, I'm going to go in the transfer portal.
Not only that, a lot of people are not realizing when you go in the transfer portal as well,
when you get out the transfer portal, it'd be money waiting for you on the other end
of the transfer portal.
So people aren't just randomly going in the transfer portal.
They're going in because they know when it's like the rainbow.
When it's gold on the other side with the leprechaun.
That's what's at the end of the fucking transfer portal.
It's a pot of gold.
People ain't just doing this for no reason.
They waiting on that bread.
They like, yo, if I transfer here, how much I can get?
Or if I transfer here, how much I could get?
And those that want to know, do some due diligence on it.
It's not just about saying,
I want to leave because I don't like it here.
It's money waiting on niggas.
But I think it's the money that she has.
And I don't think like she liked the way her ending went
in Notre Dame.
And so she's going back to prove a point to everybody like,
yo, I am that nigga.
And potentially try to win a championship
depending on where she goes.
But it's the money more I agree with something and I can't remember exactly off top of my
head something didn't go right to end of that game.
And I know she played poorly and she may want to redeem herself next season.
Okay.
Yeah, definitely.
Go ahead, Mase.
That's actually something that old school coaches used to do is try to bench you to make you do an extra year
That's the only good tactics and no woman doing that I don't like that
Okay, and then moving along to football so a picture of Kyle Shanahan is going viral,
showing his transition from when he started coaching to now. We always talk mainly about
the pressure on the players, but Maurice, how do you think the pressure is for a coach?
And then what was your reaction to seeing that transition for him?
Yeah, I think a stress out, you know, he's heard the rumors, you know, just like
everybody else, you know, it's, it's only so long that you can make it to the big dance
or keep on making it to the finals.
And you keep on not the final thing about basketball or the conference finals and making
runs without actually getting it done before you start to feel that pressure from ownership
or people looking at other younger coaches, the way they looked at you when you were just a
young guy coming up, you know, and this business, the business of sports, it is
the what have you done for me lately deal and people will let you get away with
excuses year one year two year three or four.
But once people have a have assembled teams for you, they've made trades,
they've given you all the things that you wanted. You then have to deliver once you have assembled teams for you, they've made trades, they've given you all
the things that you wanted, you then have to deliver once you have all the resources.
And I'm pretty sure, you know, at night he probably sits up and says, man, can I get
this thing done with the players that I have and stress, you know, wears him you and somebody
caught him at a bad time.
And, you know, when he first stepped in the league, he was young and innocent and happy
and joyful.
But those saying is heavy is heavy, what is it?
Heavy, heavy is the head that wears the crown.
And now since he's had the head job, he's not delivered, uh, the way he intended.
And so I'm pretty sure the stress of that and up after a while.
And you know, uh, he's probably questioned himself and said, Hey, am I just a, a
good offensive coordinator and, uh, posing or, you know, uh, can I, can I be a guy
to get it done like Andy Reid
or some of these younger guys who won championships?
Yeah, Kella.
Yeah, when I seen that picture,
it remind me of like, they did that same picture
with Barack Obama when he took the job to be president.
And then like fourth, eighth, I don't know
if it's the second term or the end of the second term,
he looked old as fuck and stressed out.
I think a lot of head coaches not even think, definitely.
Coaches in general have to put in more time than the players.
I'm not saying players don't practice,
players don't physically do more than the coaches.
But as far as coaches, this is a stressful job.
You got to think about this.
You have to be there before the players get there.
You have to be there after the players leave.
You have to go home, look at film.
Not only look at film, you have to come up with schemes.
No, I'm not just talking about football.
I'm talking about depending on what coach you are,
basketball, hockey, whatever, baseball.
You have to come up with schemes and plans
and plays and what's gonna work and who's not gonna work
and what players are gonna play good together.
And try this, you know, if it's basketball,
put this five on the court, this start a lineup
on the court, or you may want to start this receiver
this week, it's a lot for these coaches.
And when you're not winning, it becomes stressful
because now what Mo just said, the next thing is,
is niggas wanna fire me?
Damn, I've been here a minute, it's not happening.
Now the Kyle Shanahan's credit, my personal,
now I'm not gonna say credit,
but I'm gonna give him a pass for last year
because everybody was fucking hurt.
I mean, you know, you get hurt in the very beginning of the season.
McAfee's fucking hurt.
Kittles is playing half half ass because he's not 100 percent.
I'm going to give Cal a pass for last year.
But how many passes are you going to get?
You've been in the Super Bowl.
You've been like most of you've been to these conference.
Niggas want answers.
And the 49er faithful one,
they want results.
I give them a pass if I'm a 49er, if I was a 49er fan,
but you can see it wears and tears on people.
Everybody's not going to be cool and calm
and look good at the end of the day,
but these are the pictures you got to be aware of.
That's why even when I go out, me personally,
if I'm going to Walgreens, Walmart,
I throw a flip-flops, a little hoodie I may not shave.
But if I, and then I'm,
because I'm a nigga that may have to take a picture.
You know what I'm saying?
I got to make sure that I'm aware of my surroundings
because a nigga can't wait to do a comparison
like they just did.
You never know when you're a celebrity
when niggas will catch you lacking.
Cal, that picture they put up,
that nigga man just woke up, came out the shit,
it wasn't even no big deal,
ain't let the nigga shave or nothing.
But this what happens when you in the public eye.
You could sit there and nigga,
you could tell nigga you don't wanna take a picture,
what you gonna stop him?
He could just, ain't nothing you could do.
It's the way it go
Yeah, and they wonder why niggas wear Gucci to the gym
Say yo you doing too much not you know, you're going in the gym
They're gonna be flicking it up and you got to be prepared like killer said
Okay, so see now when I say facts, I notice it ever since you call me out.
The more you know, I'm definitely not wearing no Gucci to the gym.
But the more you know.
This in general, because now I'm curious, like if you guys had to put yourself in like
a coach's shoes, what's a team that that that you're like, yep, that's the team that I want
to coach for.
And on the opposite end, what's a team that's like, nope, like this is the team I would
not want to be a coach for Maurice.
I want to coach the Raiders.
Just because they are Davis family.
Yeah, they take niggas like me.
I've lost my my brand.
No, Jerry Jones.
I wouldn't want to fuck with Jerry Jones.
I wouldn't I wouldn't want to do all that.
You know, I would feel like I'm a slave if I was Ryan.
He still got like slave on the rocks.
So I wouldn't want to be around that.
Yeah. Yeah, I like that
That was a good one. That was real good. That was like quick like you
Be all about
The Raiders or what's another good team and coach?
I think I think on Kansas City will be a good team to coach,
because you got all the talent there.
You can't mess that up.
And a team I wouldn't wanna coach is the Miami Dolphins.
And I say that because it's hard to lose
in a beautiful city.
Like it gotta be depressing when you're not that good and you're in the most poppin' city. It's like it got to be depressing when you're not that good and you're in the most poppin'
city.
I'm gonna just go with Moe Ancestors.
I like Moe Ancestors a lot.
Raiders and the Cowboys.
Can't beat that.
I'll give you somebody else Detroit.
I'll go close to Detroit.
No I ain't going to.
No fly zone. Detroit. I'll go coach in Detroit. No, I ain't going to no flies.
OK, and then speaking of the Raiders, we'll discuss this before we wrap.
So the Raiders and Gino Smith reached a two year seventy five million dollar
extension. It includes sixty six.5 million in guaranteed money.
Maurice, do you see the upside in them committing to Geno Smith for two years?
Oh, yeah.
It's stability at the most important position, uh, along the field to me, you
know, uh, the quarterback is the general, the team, he makes the franchise and go.
He's the personality of it.
Uh, but when I seen this, uh, more than just a contract man, I think this is a huge lesson.
Gino Smith, when he first came out and he went to the Jets and things didn't work out
for him. That was almost like a decade ago. And people have wrote him off. But the most
admirable thing to me, with Gino Smith was that, and I think anybody can learn from this
having the ability to hustle and wait, you know,
your turn while somebody else is having success.
And there's a lot of people who check who mentally check out when things aren't in there
or they're not having the turnout that they want.
And you can see as long as he was in Seattle behind Russell Wilson, he had to be doing
some form of development because you just don't get off the sidelines
and be in the mental space to have the success that he had from an accuracy standpoint running the team standpoint and
Then to have all the success and so I think the story won kudos to the contract
But I think more people can learn how to hustle
When you don't have a spotlight on you even that long in his career
So my hats off to him and I hope he has six down or three.
Yeah, I was going to say something similar, but I would I was definitely
going to start with he's the poster child of don't give up.
Right. You keep going.
The law of persistence says that you you could run into your best outcome.
You know, some people outcome doesn't come from the very beginning.
They have to work for every single thing they got now and everything they get.
And I don't even credit it as like a process for him.
I think at the beginning he was just not that good.
And but he had to not give up. I think at the beginning, he was just not that good.
But he had to not give up.
I don't think it was the development.
He just wasn't that good.
And then he gets with pre-Carroll,
somebody who could just formulate an offense that
will work for him and then begins
to teach him how he could flourish within that system
But he still had to work on his game. It's not just a better coach He had to become a better player and and that mental fortitude that you constantly hear us talking about
I think he had that from the beginning that even though he wasn't a that great of a player in the
that even though he wasn't that great of a player in the NFL,
he had the mental fortitude to find that talent and to stay around until that
talent is developed. And I think that's what we're looking up.
And to think that you can get this amount of money in the late stages of your
career is the beautiful, you know, it's not just the money. It's this amount of money late because we were looking at another
quarterback that came through Seattle and he just got 10, 10 million.
With Sierra and this guy's getting two 75.
We don't know who is Sierra is.
Yeah. Well, you know, and I won't be long with it with it what else and I think both you guys made great points but just to add or add just to add on that Gino Smith should I
Don't know what he should fucking do for Pete Carroll because Pete Carroll is the one who revived his career
Not only that when Seattle when the Seahawks didn't want to just pay you just now,
Pete Carroll, he ain't been to Raiders for 30 minutes.
He been to Raiders, he just get to the Raiders
and be like, yo, Greg, I ain't finished with this nigga.
We paused, we have something going on.
I want to leave Seattle.
But now to bring him in to be the starting quarterback
with the Raiders, it ain't just Christmas gifts you gotta get this nigga on Gino.
You need to whatever holiday, 4th of July, pay for the champagne, the steaks, Memorial
Day, Labor Day, everything.
You need to take care of Pete Carroll whenever you get a chance because thank you ain't just
going to do it.
That nigga brought you back to life for us.
Okay, well that's all the time we have for today, Maurice.
We will stay tuned for the battle of the blues UCLA versus you can't tonight.
So we'll see who wins that.
Maurice, you know, it's always a pleasure.
And pay my girl, saying that's why I said you can't battle the blues.
Oh, it is on you, Con.
All right. I'm just
really trying to
like.
Hey, man, that's all the time we have for today.
Thank you all for watching.
And as always, it is what it is. Thanks for watching!
