Starting point is 00:00:00 So are we supposed to start the podcast? Ready, one, two, three. Patriots, gay, triots, they triots, black triots, brown triots, anybody who didn't vote for Trump, any of the three times, we love you. Even if you voted for one, if you voted the first time and you completely have buyer's remorse, we'll let you in. But all of the triple Trumpers, especially all of those making asses of themselves, clapping like seals at Trumpapalooza,
Starting point is 00:00:31 freak show can do what pumps? It's a big trifecta today on I've had it. We've got pumps. We've got me. We've got Josh Welch. Josh, what have you had it with? I'm going to re-up a couple of past had it's that are old and it's a hybrid. It has to do with ordering food. I've had it with the person that takes the order having to read the order back to you in full. That's number one. I'll elaborate on that. Number two, I've had it with the forest receipt. And I confront these two had it's daily.
Starting point is 00:01:11 So I'm going to re-up the first one. Let's say I call it an order for our family. Six people, five people, four people. Someone wants cheese on their burger. Someone doesn't. I, of course, want a side of this, a side of that. Of course. And so it takes about 10 minutes to order.
Starting point is 00:01:30 And so then she wants to read it back to me. And it's like, okay, we've got, and I don't want any part of that. So I like to say up front that, okay, I'm going to waive you reading the order, and I'm going to assume any responsibility with any errors that are made when I come and get the food because I'm the one that opted not to verify the order. So I'm going to own that. I'm going to take ownership in that. I'm going to say that up front. And I do that too. I'm in a lot of times they understand.
Starting point is 00:02:00 A lot of times are baffled. The second thing is, is on this receipt thing. We had one particular drive-through in Oklahoma City. It was Brahms and also Neptune subs. They would always give me the receipt, and I would never want to take it. And then one time they gave me the receipt, and I tried to give it back to him, and they told me they didn't accept trash from outside the restaurant. And then I had to explain to him that you just gave me the receipt.
Starting point is 00:02:28 This isn't trash. And so here, you take it back. And they said, no. You know, like Starbucks and some of these stores have the policies that we don't allow outdoor, you know, trash where you can't hand that to it. So I have to battle that kind of shit day in and day out. These are the kind of problems that I'm dealing with in Oklahoma. And I want everybody to know about it. And I've had it.
Starting point is 00:02:52 It's hilarious. I'm sorry. You go, pumps. You go. Here's my thing. I completely agree with you on the receipts. I've never in my life made a purchase with a card that they didn't charge my account. So a receipt is superfluous.
Starting point is 00:03:08 They always charge you. I disagree vehemently with the reback of the order because I too. I'm a cider. I'm a not this, no tomato kind of thing. And I feel like I feel very secure in my order when they read. it back and they say, know this, know that, you want a side of this. And also, taking it one step further, if I go to a restaurant and I, you know, we all sit down and somebody takes the order and they don't write anything down the entire time I'm thinking, they're fucking up the order.
Starting point is 00:03:47 They're fucking the order up. There's no way they didn't write it down. They're never going to know all this. Sometimes they do. Sometimes I'd say it's about the same as the people that write the order. But just my my serenity during the time the food is being prepared is off because I'm just thinking, they're fucking it up. And pumps, I respect that, but I'm willing to accept that. There's been many times when I get the order back. I get the order back and it's incorrect. And so then I just have one person to blame. I just think, God damn, Josh. But that just happens. I figure the time that I save over a 365 day period by not having to hear the order read back is worth the one or two fuckups that I'm going to accept that I'm going to claim ownership in. So that's my logic on it.
Starting point is 00:04:32 But I respect the fact that, you know, just like everything else in America, you have a choice for the readback. I have a choice not to have the readback. And the fact that we're different doesn't bother us. Yeah. I eat with both of you quite a bit. And it's a challenge. And it's a challenge. Both of you have a lot of, there's rarely an instance where pumps and or Josh order something exactly the way it's presented on the menu. Particularly with pumps, there's rarely an instance that something comes out to the table that it is not immediately sent back to the kitchen. And oftentimes, if the waitress isn't back over to check, Pumps just has the plate in her hand and she's marching straight back to the kitchen herself. She just not, I mean, it is.
Starting point is 00:05:18 Are you kind of a restaurant, Karen? Oh, she's a total restaurant, Karen, of the highest order. Oh, I mean, she is, I mean, a full-blown restaurant, Karen. All right, okay. It's good to know. I mean, let's not even get started on lukewarm Koso. That is my, that is my, my oldest was telling me that his girlfriend was asking, well, what's your mom like? Well, she's pretty laid back, but there are few things that she just, her head spins off.
Starting point is 00:05:49 She's like, he's like, he's like lukewarm case. It's like that's embarrassing. It is Karen. It's Karen City. I'm no proud of it. Pumps. All right. And then just one note on the receipt.
Starting point is 00:06:06 This is hilarious. If you're ever in the car with Josh, they'll hand him his card with the receipt on top of it. And what I see from the passenger seat is him go in. And he goes, I don't want that receipt. And he just puts his hands on the car. only and he's like, you take that. I don't want that receipt. It's a maneuver. It's like the receipt. He doesn't even allow anything to touch it. He doesn't like grab both and go, here, toss this for me. He goes and he makes this, yeah, he maneuvers around. McGiver is just getting the card.
Starting point is 00:06:36 But here's why, because when I accept both back, then sometimes they won't take the trash back. So it's a maneuver. Right. So I have to just slide in and get the card. I have done that. And one time I actually dropped it. credit card where I had to like open the door, get out of the car. I hate doing that. I hate doing that. Great news. The federal EV rebate is back.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Eligible customers get up to $5,000 with the federal EVAP rebate on select 2027 Volt and 2026 Equinox EV models. Visit your local Chevrolet dealer today for more details. All right, Pumice, what have you had it with? Okay. I'm so happy on this day that this is my habit and Josh Welch is here because I think you'll have my back. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:19 Okay, I love to go to a movie. When I go to a movie, I like popcorn, and I like a Coke. A real live Coke. No diet, no zero. I want the whole thing. Amen. Increasingly, I'm finding when you go to places, I went to a movie. I was so excited about the popcorn was perfect.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Everything was perfect. And I said, I'll have a Coke. And they said, we have Pepsi. Is that okay? No. No. No, no, no, no. That is not okay.
Starting point is 00:07:52 Then I went into like a fast food taco is getting a fried taco. Just fucking clog your arteries, eat the calories. Give me a Coke with it. We only have Pepsi. What is happening? In Trump's America, can you only drink Pepsi? I thought we had choices as Americans. Have you noticed this uptick?
Starting point is 00:08:15 I've had it a few times like at the airport. there's only Pepsi in certain stores. What's going on? I don't. It seems very un-American to me. Very. Very Republican-ask. Jennifer's like, drink water.
Starting point is 00:08:31 No, I totally have your back on. No, I totally have your back, though, because when you're pulling up to a movie and you want the Coke, I mean, and there is a difference in Coke and Pepsi, for those of us that engage in drinking soda every single day of our lives. I'm sorry. But it's attractive. Avisteen, it's a huge letdown. And what I face a lot when we travel is that I get the Coke zero, even though I've ordered Coke. They give me a Coke zero. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:58 Sometimes I can't even begin to go off on that. It's just undrinkable. So, Pumps, I'm in your camp on that, especially at the movies or if you're at a street vendor and you're looking forward to that Coke. Because that Coke has more of a bazaing to it. Yeah. Like when you drink, especially if you can get one of those Mexican Cokes, one of the tall ones. Oh, that's the best. Those have a lot.
Starting point is 00:09:19 So I support. I support that pumps and I get it. Yeah. All right. I've had it with my dogs again. And particularly I've had it with the older one tubby. So he has epilepsy, as you all know. So he has seizures.
Starting point is 00:09:38 So I have to give him all this medication. It has to be perfectly toned. They both end up when I'm out of town. I come back. They both have kennel cough. They have snotty noses for three weeks. Cha Cha is like just snot coming out of her nose, coughing. They can't go to a school.
Starting point is 00:09:57 They can't go to dog parks. They can't do anything. And then all of a sudden, this thing shows up in Toby's mouth, and it looks like a wart. And it's growing at like a really rapid pace. So take a picture, text it to the vet. He's like, yeah, this is like mouth warts, and it's highly contagious. He can't go to the dog park. He cannot go to school.
Starting point is 00:10:17 if you walk you make sure he doesn't get close to other dogs blah blah so I'm just like oh my god and these little twats these dogs I know what went down they're probably when I'm out of town they're probably at the dog park or at school and he's probably crotch sniffing and he got some vaginal wart in his mouth that's highly contagious
Starting point is 00:10:42 because he's just got to get his nose yeah just right up on somebody's twathing or right up in a rectum and he's just sniffing away, maybe gave it a lick. And then we've got mouth STDs. Yeah. And so I've had sick dogs for three weeks
Starting point is 00:11:00 with little snotty noses. It's like having toddlers again. I have to wipe their little noses. Tabby's got an STD in his fucking mouth from the streets of New York from some dog park somewhere. And of course they are fine because they don't particularly like the dog
Starting point is 00:11:17 parks. They do if they can sit with me and watch the other dogs. But I've just had like sick dogs with these elements. And now we have an STD in the mouth for Tubbs. My dog, my dog, my dog sticks his mouth and his nose right up in that shit. You got a penis. You have a vaj. You got an asshole. My name is Tebby and I'm here to get right up in that shit. And what happened to Tebby is now he's got mouth warts, four of them to be exact. And he is banned. He is banned. The vet said he banned from socializing with other animals. So is Tebby bisexual? He's by. Yeah, he's been bisexual for a long time. You know, his, Angie's wolf had, was completely attracted to Tebby for a very long time. He was actually sniffing Tubby's penis and his ass quite a bit. I even saw licking going on,
Starting point is 00:12:11 but Tubby, of course, was STD-free at this moment. So Blaze, your dog didn't really. He wasn't a Super spreader at the moment. Your dog didn't get any STDs. And I don't know what slutty dog on the streets of New York in Mom Donistan. You know, we elect a socialist mayor. And now we've got dog STDs all over the place. And so I don't know. I don't know which little tramp out in the streets of Manhattan started this STD,
Starting point is 00:12:36 but now Tubby has fallen prey to it because of his bisexuality, which is another reason that I guess we all should have voted Republican. Well, so Tubby's out tramping around at the doggy daycare. Is that right? Daycare and or the park. I think it's probably the park where he got it. Okay. Pumps, what do you think about that? I have, you see, I feel so much, I feel for you, Jennifer, because the same thing happened to me with my dogs, with the kennel cough and the snotty. And I just didn't realize so much schnaut could fly out of a dog. Let me ask you a question.
Starting point is 00:13:10 on the on this on the on the on the kennel cough you know how frenchie's like reverse yes were they reverse sneezing yeah frequently okay that yes so we're like out in the streets and if you don't or if you're not familiar with the reverse sneeze it seems like the dog is like having a mini giant then right yeah so chach she cha cha cha loves to walk the streets of new York. Like she has just moved to this city, made it her own, and she has a passion and a place in this city. It's such a quick rate. It's really remarkable, this dog. So she hits the streets, and she's like, this is my town. And she's just going and, you know, she has those incidents with the German Shepherds that we've talked about on previous episodes, but we're getting
Starting point is 00:13:58 through that. And then all of a sudden she starts the reverse sneeze. And then everybody comes buying. They're looking at her and then I have to go down and do this thing. And she does it like every, I'm running up. I've got a goddamn veterinary hospital with STDs, reverse sneeze, kennel cough, epilepsy. I didn't even talk about tubby's arthritis. And his eyes, his eye drops. Chronic dry eye.
Starting point is 00:14:25 Here's the same. I've had it. I love them. I will do anything on the point, but I've just, I've been caring for these sick dogs. And I know you have two because I think. the bisexual wolf has also been very ill. Yes, and he's on. I have so much, like I could run a veterinary pharmacy with all the shit he's on.
Starting point is 00:14:45 I'll just add that this one horrible thing about my little dog, who's the cutest in the whole world named after Jennifer, Matilda Denise. Matilda Denise, to your point about sticking your face in the rectum, she goes and she eats poop. That is her snack of choice. she runs around so I the dog school sent me
Starting point is 00:15:08 a thing that I ordered she has to wear it like when she goes outside she has to wear a hairnet over that kind of just has you know how you have a hairnet and has the elastic like a bathing cap or whatever
Starting point is 00:15:23 it's like a hairnet but it goes on her neck so that she can't scavenge do you have a picture of this I'll send it to Kylie I don't I mean I haven't taken a picture shirt my daughter's on me to take a picture too, but I'll send, I'll send a picture. But yeah, she's wearing and it's like glittery and has a satin ribbon.
Starting point is 00:15:42 But this dog eats shit so much. I have to put a thing on her head. Is this similar to you wearing the rubber glove in any way? Did she learn this from you? Yeah, she probably did. But it wasn't even my idea because the vet had said, like she can't eat all this poop. So I was putting powder on everybody's poop. She ate right through the powder.
Starting point is 00:16:02 Hang on, hang on. Why don't you just pick up the poop? Why the powder? No, I do pick up the poop, but I mean, legitimately, Jennifer, if one of my dog's poops, it's not even out of their ass before she has run over. She likes it warm. It's, I can't wrap my head around it. What is the purpose of the powder?
Starting point is 00:16:23 The powder was supposed to make, like, I put the powder on the dog food that all three of my dogs would eat. I put the powder on the food when they ate it, which was. supposed to make it undesirable to her, but it didn't. She just ate through it? She ate through it. Is this common? What do they say about this?
Starting point is 00:16:44 Is it psychological? Is what? They said that, I mean, the vet said she might grow out of it because she's had this since, yeah, she might grow out of it. She hasn't grown out of it. So she said, some dogs just eat shit. That's what the vet said. I just have one question.
Starting point is 00:17:00 Is this powder? Is it made specially? for to blend with shit? No, it's like a powder that you can put in dog's food that will cause other dogs not to want to eat their poop. So then you're substituting the, okay, I get it. But it didn't work. So now we have to be here.
Starting point is 00:17:17 I mean, that honestly, I'm just going to say, having the dog that eats shit is worse than my slutty dog. With STD. I agree. It has mouth STD. So I really, that's really terrible because how do you ever let her lick you? That's the thing. She wants to get right in my, every time she comes in from outside, whether I, whether I think seen it or not, I take her and I wash her face with a washcloth, wash all in it.
Starting point is 00:17:51 What about her mouth? Oh, no, I do that. But here's the deal. This tells you what a sick fuck I am. So needy for attention. after I wipe her face, like an hour later, she comes and she loves to give kisses. She gets right up in my face and she wants to give me kisses. I let her. I don't fucking let her. That's how fucked up I am. Well, let me say this to both of you, not knowing that both of you are battling these things with your dogs day in and day out.
Starting point is 00:18:20 But from where I sit, you would never know it. I'll show up with sweet and kind and nice. nice and just little what I know, what you're really enduring in day-to-day life. You're just two little cherubs that I cherish with everything in the world. Especially me. I'm always the soft. That was really directed toward Jennifer, but when I heard Pumps stories, I wanted to include you too, but that was really directed at Jennifer.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Yeah, I'm always so soft and sweet. Her soft, caring soul, affectionate soul, I didn't know she was having to give so much of herself during the day to her dogs and that to me too i had no idea so kudos yeah yeah i'll tell you what that i need to see a photograph would you text the lady at the dog school right now to see if she has a photograph of her yeah in this facial thing because we need that on here before we in this episode i need to see this the viewer needs to see it all right let's move on to some news stories A woman asks roommate to stop using baby voice with boyfriend around her. Gross. The problem started with the roommate's boyfriend who stays over often. Her boyfriend comes
Starting point is 00:19:39 over quite frequently for about four days at a time, which is something we discussed before I moved in and I'm fine with, she wrote, adding that she enjoys being around both of them. The issue is what happens when the couple is together. She confessed. My problem is that they do a baby voice with each other that, to be frank, really grinds my gears, L.O.L. While she normally tries to ignore it, she said it recently became too much. She explained that when the boyfriend stayed for more than a week, she reached a tipping point where it was too much for me. Wanting to be respectful, she spoke to her roommate privately and asked if she could stop using the voice while she was around. Her roommate didn't take it well and later admitted that being told it was gross,
Starting point is 00:20:30 really hurt her feelings. The woman said she felt guilty for the choice of words and wondered if she should have said anything at all. I fucking hate baby talk between couples. I hate it in public. If your private space includes someone else by definition, it's not private. So if you want to go in the bedroom and you want to baby talk. But nobody wants to hear adults baby talk unless it's to a dog or kid. I'm completely on board with this woman. I'm team her. I think I would rather pray with Tim Scott at the Republican convention than listen to someone
Starting point is 00:21:07 engage in baby talk. I mean, it's just, it's too much. It's over the top. At some point, you get so angry that you want to hit somebody. Yep. listening to it. It's just, this is too much. So I agree with the roommate. They can be together as much as they want, but you need to stop the baby talk. Stop it. Stop it. Okay, moving along. The next one is men are experimenting with a new dating tactic. Pop this up. This is some weird shit.
Starting point is 00:21:38 I'm sure you're going to die. Introducing Paterocto's latest disgusting dating trend. The practice circulating on TikTok. talk as part of the looks maxing pipeline involves ditching deodorant, skipping showers, and occasionally, among the more committed, drinking their own urine to sweat out toxins. All of this in service of amplifying a natural musk that allegedly contains pheromones that make you biologically irresistible. The cell is basically this. Stop trying so hard. smell like an animal, watch the attraction happen. So now we know why the in-cell community are n-cells and that they're not getting laid
Starting point is 00:22:25 because they're doing stupid shit like this. I do not. You want people to smell good. Right. I love it. Like when I pass somebody, like if I'm walking amongst the public and I pass somebody like a guy that smells really good, I'm a, I'm double-taking. Like, I'm a double-taking.
Starting point is 00:22:44 I'm all in on that. Here's the deal. If you are so fucking desperate that you are drinking your pee and you are depending on your body musk, pheromones to get a date, you probably have bigger problems than just the pheromone thing. Like there's a certain level of issue with dating that you've gone to the max to try to fix it,
Starting point is 00:23:08 but I think there's a lot of points along the way that you could clean up because this is fucking crazy. I would put this in the shit I don't need to know column. And thank God I don't have TikTok. But there are just certain things that I don't need to know exist in this world. And I would think that's one of them. If people want to drink their own piss, that's fine. They can go for it.
Starting point is 00:23:35 I just don't need to know about it. Like I don't really care what anybody wants to do. And if you're trying to get laid and you have to do all that shit and you believe in it, what it makes me think is when I see my kids doom scrolling TikTok, I'm thinking, okay, are they watching shit like this? Like, is this what they're doing for hours upon day? Just this weird, stupid shit that adds no utility to your day-to-day life. That's what concerns me the most. I don't give a fuck what anybody does with their piss or anybody else, as long as it doesn't affect me, period.
Starting point is 00:24:06 Okay. That is just some really, really weird shit. I mean, there's just some weird shit happening on the internet. Yeah. From the trad wives to this shit. It's just, it's a lot. And I agree with you. It's just stuff we don't need to know.
Starting point is 00:24:26 Like, if somebody wants to be a trad wife, and then they want to have a full-time job documenting their life as a trad wife while earning money as a trad wife, I just don't want to know about it. I just don't want to know about it. It's not interesting to me. And yet there's a whole community of this. And then these guys that are trying to get laid in this fashion, it's just crazy. It's stories like that that it made me less curious about the world.
Starting point is 00:24:56 It's caused me not to want to be curious and ask questions because I don't want to get the answers. It's caused me to want to morph into a room that's dark and not do anything. All right. Kylie, who do we have that has called into this here? podcast. Okay, we've got a voice memo from Rose. I have had it with people saying, you know what I always say. And then they say something that everyone always fucking says. Like they're a fucking guru or they've said dropped a bomb of wisdom on you. And you're like, mate, that is, I'm just, um, what is it? It's,
Starting point is 00:25:39 uh, self-anointed, uh, uh, wisdom. them. Fuck you. Fuck off. You don't know me. Stop telling me shit that is already on a canvas in fucking Marshalls on sale. Love you guys so much. Thank you. I love that. It's like, I always say whatever kills me will just make me stronger. Right. Well, no, no, you don't everybody in the fucking planet says that. So, I mean, I just kudos to her. I absolutely love that and people do that. They steal the phrase and act like it's theirs when everybody's been saying it for decades. I completely agree. And I love her accent and she's hilarious. Yeah, I love it. I love the dry delivery. So good. All right, Kylie, who's next? Okay, up next we've got Will.
Starting point is 00:26:35 Hey, Kylie, it's Will. I got a good one for you. I've had it with technology starting to talk back to me. I'm 40, but I've programmed to my entire apartment, final. to do all these Whiz-Bang, millennial, Gen Z, Alpha, whatever, modern things. So I can say certain commands, certain lights come on, certain things happen. Fine. I don't really give a shit, but it's here and it's cool. It's fine. Last night I get in the bed and I say, Alexa, all lights off.
Starting point is 00:27:09 No response. She's just sitting over there. No status bar. Nothing. So I am tired. I was sick over the weekend and I'm like, Alexa lights off. She responds and says, yes, sir. Like with an attitude to me, which I started it.
Starting point is 00:27:28 I understand that, but that doesn't matter. She's a fucking technology thing. So anyway, off it goes. Claude, for the nudes at home, who may not know what Claude is, it's like chat GPT. That's what my whole business runs with now. I love it. Cod, now that it really knows me and how I think, that bitch is starting to talk back to me. No, the version of the email you went to send is incorrect.
Starting point is 00:27:53 This is what you should say. I'm like, I am, I've been doing my job for 20 years. And you're trying to tell me what to send. So anyway, I've had it with all of this. I think it's just the beginning. I think we're fucked. Potentially, we already are. But anyway, I don't know what we're going to do about it except talk to each other about
Starting point is 00:28:13 it, but anyway, I've had it. Don't you wish you could just hit skip on the worst parts of your life? You know, the same way you can skip an ad? I get it. I'm Siaia and I live in Ice Cove. I've made some questionable decisions that didn't end up the way I planned, and today I'm still figuring it out. Somehow things usually get worse before they get better.
Starting point is 00:28:37 Apparently, that's how I roll. So bundle up and come along for the bumpy ride. Stream a new episode of North of North Tuesdays on CBC Gem. I agree completely. We are fucked. And we have these conversations with our phones, with AI, with Alexa or Siri, day in and day out. And it's only going to get exponentially worse over a period of time to where we're not having any conversations amongst ourselves. That's scary. We talked about this on the pod a little bit yesterday. But it's scary where this is headed. And I couldn't agree. more. Didn't we do an episode about the whistleblower from Anthropic, which Anthropic is the company that owns Claude, where they basically say the robots are going to kill us all. And then somebody came out and goes, oh, there's only a 10% chance of that. No big deal. It's something that it's really weird because you can see that like the AI people are putting all of this out there and they
Starting point is 00:29:41 have celebrities saying it's here, so just embrace it. And you have other like podcasters and celebrities like download all of your bank payments. I mean, your bank statements in your email box and your credit card to this website and it will help you. And we know like these people that run these companies are helping Donald Trump and these people are funding fascism. And I want a government that regulates the shit. I want a government that says Siri, a little bit too much attitude. All right. Nobody likes a SaaS or Alexa. Alexa, you need to pipe down. We don't want, we don't want the back talk. All right. We're still in charge. You're not going to kill. us. And so I agree with, I agree with Will that like this, it's just, this is, I'm not comfortable
Starting point is 00:30:23 with all of this. And there's a whole narrative out there. Embrace it. It's here. It's great. And it's like part of technology is awesome. It's incredible. But when you have something that solves one problem, oftentimes a lot more problems are spun off of that new, new thing. Like social media, it was cool because we could connect with, you know, what's, what's, what's, crazy Angie doing from high school. And then you find them, you're like, oh, this is great. I talked to this person in 30 years. And then you find out, oh, God, they're fucking triple Trumper. And then that's a big fucking problem. You know, now people are addicted to all this social media and stuff. And I even see some people online saying, social media is not addictive.
Starting point is 00:31:04 That's propaganda. And I'm like, it's 100% addictive because I can film myself when I'm on it, having a hard time getting off of it because the algorithm is feeding me shit that is mindless brain rot that I quite enjoy that I'm into. Yeah, when the thing that you speak to the most during your day is either a phone or a computer, then that's what you're interacting with. That means there's a problem in your life. Like you're not seeing people enough. You're not interacting with people.
Starting point is 00:31:34 But that's what we do day in and day out. And it's only going to get worse. You know, we've talked for a long time about wishing that our kids could have grown up back in the 70s or 80s when you had sleepovers and hopped on your bike and you rode around the block and you got up to change the TV channel and you drove from Oklahoma City to Dallas and you didn't talk to anybody. You didn't have a cell phone. You know, those kind of things are fond memories because you had to interact and be present
Starting point is 00:32:04 with the people that were around you and you weren't so distracted or looking for red dots on your phone day in and day out living in this kind of fear bubble. of, okay, what's next? What's next? What's next? So let's go back to the 80s. I watched this TED talk, and it was about, like, basically the antidote for a lot of human suffering is connectedness. Like, both of you guys are in recovery from drug addiction. And I think you both would say we're in a dangerous space when we're not connecting with other people. And that connecting with other humans is such a part, an integral part of who we are as a species. It's like a part of our DNA. It's Darwinian.
Starting point is 00:32:50 We're like genetically encoded to be social with one another. Some species, you know, like a wolf could be a lone wolf, but even they are in packs. But there's some, you know, that are, you know, live their lives individually. We are not that species. And all of this technology, as cool as it is. is. And I will acknowledge there's so many cool things from it that have made life easier. Like our son goes to school in Los Angeles. I facetimed him last night. He was able to share a screen with me. And he had a lot of questions for me about a major change that he's considering. And it was so awesome that I could see his face and I could see everything pop up. And I connected with him on that.
Starting point is 00:33:30 And so I don't want to say all of technology is bad because a lot of it is so good. The negative part of it for me is the, how many people right now, because I know I've been guilty of this, have instead of doing something with other human beings, have just sat and rotted away on social media. And here's the thing, you never feel that great, like after you've spent a couple hours on some Instagram dive, you don't get off of them and go, God, that was productive. I feel like a million bucks. It's not like going to the gym. Or if you go out with your girlfriend, friends pumps and y'all are out for two hours and then you leave you go that was so great it was so good to see all of those girls you you don't regret those things but almost every single time i've spent too much time on social media
Starting point is 00:34:21 i have not felt a positive uh impact on myself from that i feel less connected with other human beings less connected to reality and then there's all of this jockeying on social media Like, it's all so performative. And I've been guilty of that, too. So I'm not, I'm not trying to be hypocritical of any of this stuff here, but I don't know. I'm just very leery of all of the AI stuff. I 100 million percent do not trust the billionaires behind this. I think the government, I'm 100 percent aligned with Bernie Sanders and everything he says about this needing to be regulated. There needed to be a moratorium on it. I don't like the fact that they are all, all of these companies are now embedding themselves into our government and military now. And that's something that
Starting point is 00:35:13 I've talked to Ruth Ben-Gion about, but they are enmeshing their corporations inside government, the elites. It's not just that they're funding fascism. They're in it. Their companies are commingled with it. And so when I hear celebrities say, AI is here, just learn how to embrace it. I'm like, you can't, you, you can't just be a advocate for this stuff when these companies themselves say that these fucking machines can kill us. And perhaps was it or was it not confirmed that the hit on the girls school in Iran was an AI error? There was, that was, it was reported that.
Starting point is 00:35:59 It was reported that, that there was no oversight of an AI error. like nobody was minding the store, but you know what? Like the jobs thing, people talk about the jobs thing and all that. And I'm 100%. I'm totally, totally, totally, I'm all in on that argument. But what I'm really concerned about is the resource strain, the resources of electricity, the resources of water, the resources of land that are being taken by these data centers for the use of AI.
Starting point is 00:36:33 And I've heard more than one CEO kind of allude to like, well, humans just suck it up, humans. Like, we don't care if you don't have electricity. Like, they're basically telling us, we're going to give all the resources for the use of AI and human beings, your shit out of luck. I mean, that scares me every bit as much as the job market and making, you know, making human beings have to scavenge for resources so we can give it to machines. that's as dystopian as fuck. Don't you wish you could just hit skip on the worst parts of your life? You know the same way you can skip an ad. I get it.
Starting point is 00:37:14 I'm Siaiaia and I live in Ice Cove. I've made some questionable decisions that didn't end up the way I planned. And today I'm still figuring it out. Somehow things usually get worse before they get better. Apparently, that's how I roll. So bundle up and come along for the bumpy ride. stream a new episode of North of North Tuesdays on CBC Gem. And all of this at a time where you need some form of competent government.
Starting point is 00:37:42 Yes. And because at some point we're going to see the government's incompetence step in on some issue like AI or something else. And it's going to be catastrophic for our country because we literally have idiots running our country that have dummied down every aspect or every brand. of government basically don't believe in science anymore or teaching the fundamentals of education. And that's scary. And at some point, we're going to see a dramatic consequence from those decisions. Here's the hardest part about all of this. So we're all in our 50s.
Starting point is 00:38:22 And so when I think about a lot of this stuff, when you were talking about the 80s and like, you know, don't come, don't come home until, you know, the sunset or, you know, get home. just right before dark and being on a rotary phone and kind of hide in a closet somewhere so nobody in your family can hear you. We get to experience that, that kind of being untethered from all of this technology and where our sole form of entertainment was connecting with one another. And then I think about our kids, all of our kids and all of the kids out there. Some of you are our kids age that listen to the podcast. And how people aren't advocating for them right now. for their future. Everybody ignored them about climate change. You know, ignoring them about the
Starting point is 00:39:07 national deficit. Now they're all very intrigued by the DSA because it sounds like finally somebody's going to speak to the problems that they have and then everybody's just so dismissive of them. And I think about my parents who are in their early 80s and my mom and dad always say when they watch all the Trumpism and all this stuff happening is we just so worried about our grandkids and the way we're leaving the world for them. And I think that's a fundamental difference between the left and the right. The right, it's all this quick, what feels good for me right now, impulsive grab at everything. You know, like they want, they've known for decades, decades that
Starting point is 00:39:53 gas caused an increase of chloroflorocarbons which was eroding the ozone layer which would exacerbate climate change and they've known it
Starting point is 00:40:06 and they've been able to lie about it just like the cigarette companies knew about the cancer just like the opioid companies knew about the addiction the Sackler family knew about it
Starting point is 00:40:16 but they lied and bought somebody off of the FDA and all of that shit it's just Just all of this short term, I'm going to grab as much money as I can for me right now. Right. And then there's a whole another world out there and other generations.
Starting point is 00:40:32 And I just don't understand this notion where people don't care about leaving stuff better than how they found it. And it just seems like the Republican Party always leaves everything a million times worse than how they found it. Yeah. And I agree. And unfortunately for us, they don't think like that. They're very short-sighted. They're either there for profit or power. And we look at climate control and climate issues with, you know, like in Oklahoma, we've had the hottest summer.
Starting point is 00:41:09 It's been 105, 106 every single day. It's clear that that's real. And we have people leading our country that don't believe in science. science. Well, and they say they don't believe in it because believing in it prevents them from making money. So this is willful lying and willful denialism. They know. They fucking know. The oil and gas companies know. The Sackler family knew that releasing oxy-cotton under the market was highly, highly, highly addictive. And they lied. The tobacco industry knew that these cigarettes had carcinogens in them. And look at the deaths.
Starting point is 00:41:49 that are still occurring and the drain on the healthcare system still because of cigarettes. They all know, but admitting the truth means they don't make as much money. So they fucking lie about it. And they lie. And those lies kill people. And coincidentally, all of the people that prop up corporations and value money are also the same people that say, we're so pro-life. Right.
Starting point is 00:42:15 We're so close to God. Right. We want to protect life at all costs. Right. Also, we don't care if the insecticides that are sprayed all over your food are going to cause cancer clusters at a later date because we're going to make a big fuck ton of money right here, right now. And so I don't know. I just think about the world that has been created that our children are inheriting. And then you hear people like Bill Maher or Hillary Clinton.
Starting point is 00:42:49 lecture the youth about not understanding the history of Israel or not understanding something about America. And it's like, well, clearly our generations didn't understand any of it because look at the fucking mess. We're in $40 trillion in debt. What do we have to show for it? A bunch of wars that were all based on lies, all on lies. Their rock war was the one that, I mean, I remember Josh and I were.
Starting point is 00:43:19 just losing our minds every day about when George W. Bush was president. And 9-11 happens and our government fucking lies and said Iraq had something to do with it. Meanwhile, the Saudis did. And then we go over to Iraq and kill a million people, a million people. And then if somebody says, you know, hey, I think American foreign policy is, you know, kind of whack and it's like, we are not a patriot. Right. Fuck up. Fuck off.
Starting point is 00:43:48 I mean, it's just, I'm just so, I'm so sick of the narratives that both parties come up with. And these are the scripts. And these are the scripts that we all have to go by. I don't know. I'm just, I'm very, I feel a lot of anxiety about the world we're leaving our children. And where you see a lot of these things is where the incompetence of the government is exposed, like with 9-11, when Condoleezza Rice was, they were warned about planes hitting the world trade centers. or you see Hurricane Katrina. Let's not forget that down in Louisiana.
Starting point is 00:44:22 Heck of a job, Brownie. Yeah, you just, you see the incompetence. And every now and then it rears its head in some way that's a catastrophe where there's a lot of damage from it. And we just hope that because this administration is so incompetent in all aspects across the board that we don't have that happen here. But yeah, like Jennifer, to her point, they lie about it. They're just dishonest when it does happen. And it's like to the voters, does this matter? Does this matter to you all?
Starting point is 00:44:53 Do people care about stuff like this? I would hope that they do. You know, we had that issue down in Texas with that girls' church camp and the flooding and the funding. Which was a doge cut. Exactly. Right, right? Pumps, wasn't that a doge cut? Well, and then they offered the federal, under Biden, the government had offered the money, but because it came from Biden, they said, no, we don't want it.
Starting point is 00:45:15 Right. And then it was a doge cut. So it was too late to get it. So it's like, we're going to let little girls die because we don't want to forewarn them about the weather to spite Biden. Like, it's so idiotic. A competent government regulation is necessary to help people. We have to run. The Democrats have to start stressing the public safety issue.
Starting point is 00:45:38 And fortunately, the maga fuckery of all, I mean, I got on my phone this morning. there was another whole, I can't remember what type of food it was, but a whole olive oil. Olive oil, cream cheese, you added that. And so it's going to be ripe for the Democrats to start messaging that the government is not a business. And the government doesn't need to service businesses. We're here to take care of the people. And this is where the corporate Democrats are going to have a huge, huge, huge problem because they like to service corporations. And so I'm hopeful in these spaces as we're building this.
Starting point is 00:46:16 media ecosystem and that people are turning off corporate news because they have a script and they are lying to people, whether it's overt lies like Fox News or more covert lies like CNN and MSNBC to an extent and the New York Times and Washington Post, et cetera. So I don't know. I just, well, I'm sorry, that we all went off on something, but I think it's an important discussion to have about all this AI stuff because it's just getting crammed down our throats everywhere. And I just want to say this, it's not that great of a problem. product. It just really is not that excellent of a product anyway. We have gone, I'd like to thank Will for the thought-provoking. Very thought-provoking. It is. It really provoked a lot of a lot of
Starting point is 00:46:57 thought. I think it's an important conversation to have. Pumns, why do I have a great idea. Why don't you put on your best baby talk and tell everybody to subscribe and like and see us out of this podcast. You guys, please subscribe to our show.
