Starting point is 00:00:00 Matt and, Matt and, James Bonding Podcast. Ah, Matt, it's an exciting time to be a James Bonding listener. Oh, if not for the fact that a new movie's baking in the oven, but also a classic here today for a feature-length commentary, I'm Matt as well. I never said that I was Matt, but I'm Matt first. If people, since this is a paywall episode, if people are listening to this, they've got to know.
Starting point is 00:00:32 They've got to, unless they accidentally clicked on us. Right. As they were looking for Jimmy Pardo, they saw James Bonding. Oh, my, oh, well, I'll listen to this. Oh, what is this? Just all you need to know is we're both Matt's. Yeah, there you go. We're Matthews.
Starting point is 00:00:47 You'll need to know one name. What podcast can promise that? None that I can think of. Thank God. Yeah. Matt, I would say, if there was a patron film of our podcast, it would be Casino Royale. It's the one, and we agree on a lot of things. Yeah. More than we don't. And this is the one we agree on the most, that this is the best film that a human has ever made or seen in all of not just
Starting point is 00:01:13 recorded history, but space and time. Yeah, I mean, we've actually looked forward into time, three, four thousand years, and nothing has come close. No. So we can say with great authority, it's the greatest movie ever made. We look forward into time three to four thousand years, and we found another person who would look forward in time six billion years. And he was like, I never found anything. Yeah. Go ahead and print. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:37 He said also, he warned us about the man in the blue hat. I don't know what that meant. Oh. But just looking out, guys. When you run into other soothsayers when you're traveling through time, take their advice. It's never clear, but you might feel, oh, that makes sense. Listen, Matt, I just reread the book, Casino Royale. And I'm reading the script, which I've never done.
Starting point is 00:02:00 It has a lot of dialogue that was cut. Oh, interesting. Very interesting. And it's kind of slightly jokey, usually, or a little clever. Oh, the dialogue was that has been cut. Yeah, and I could see we're on set. They either tried it or Campbell or Craig or something was like, we don't need this. We don't need this.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Also, when they're on the train to go to Montenegro, there is a poker player that they take out, and he assumes his identity. And that's why he has a cover there. Oh, that makes plenty more sense. And he had, like, DVDs. This guy was studying the opponent's poker games on DVDs on a laptop. And so Bond takes that over and starts studying them. And then that's when he pulls up to the station and he sees Vesper out on the, like, whatever you call it, the loading zone.
Starting point is 00:02:46 Call it a train station. Isn't there a word for that? There's like a platform. The platform. Yeah, sure, sure, sure. Isn't there a really simple word in the English language? And then later that night is when she comes in and says, I'm the money. Oh.
Starting point is 00:02:59 Oh, okay, look, I don't think we needed it. No, I think you're right. Yeah. I like it, but the story made sense, at least to that point. That's not one of the logicals that maybe we're going to talk about during the commentary. That's right. She also drives with him in his Aston Martin at one point, which is not in the movie. That we needed.
Starting point is 00:03:18 Yeah. I don't know why we didn't get that. I know. And I'm only like a third of the way through the script, so there might be more to report. This is unbelievable. I look forward to these reports. Okay. We should have like biweekly reports.
Starting point is 00:03:29 Yeah, and I thank you to our man in the east for sending this to me, too, by the way. Phil, you are, without a doubt, the best man in the east. I saw Phil, I was in Philadelphia, and we went to... Named after him. I know. It's his town. We went to this amazing sort of, it's new, but it was kind of a retro nice steakhouse, and I look up and there are these gorgeous, old, huge golden chandeliers, and we couldn't help but remarking on them,
Starting point is 00:03:56 and we mentioned them to the waiter, I think, and the waiter said, oh, those were from the Fountain Blue in Miami, which is the Gold Finger Hotel. Very familiar with the Fountain Blue in Miami. Yeah. And also from also from the Bellboy, the Jerry Lewis movie. And also, you know, I'm familiar with a fascinating tale. If you ever really bored and want to go look at interesting abandony type things. They, the, the never finished Fountain Blue in Las Vegas that was sitting on the strip, it's going to actually be finished next year. But it should have been finished five years ago. Why? What happened? Money troubles. Oh, yeah. things of that nature. It's a fascinating tale. I say go check it out on YouTube while you're around. We ran into some technical difficulties here during the recording of this episode, but we think it will be seamless for the listener. Yeah, you may not even know, or if you do know, it shouldn't affect you much. There might be a second or two lag time,
Starting point is 00:04:48 but you know what? Here's what I remember. There's a jack on the turn, and that's sort of where the snafu happened. Yeah. And guys, I don't want to spoil it, but there will be a special special cameo appearance by a very drunk friend of ours. More than a friend. And she's more than drunk. Let's just say, afternoon bridal showers are just the best way to go. It's fun.
Starting point is 00:05:15 Should we do it? Yeah, let's hit it up, guys. Here it is. We're going to set you up. You're going to pause and go get your DVD, fire up your Netflix, however you're watching it. And we will instruct you how to be in sync with Matt and Matt for the long-awaited Casino Royale commentary track from James Bonding.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Here we are. Matt and. Matt and. Matt and. And now it's time for us to get started with this movie. Oh, yes. We are done talking about nothing, and now we'll talk about nothing in sync with a movie. Matt, I love this movie.
Starting point is 00:05:53 I do too. Here's something I never noticed until just now, Matt, because we have the MGM line up there, paused. it's below the MGM lion. Does that not look like a luchador mask? It does. Yeah, it's some kind of like, I don't know, tribal eagle or something like that. I think it's a heart.
Starting point is 00:06:13 Maybe. With two eyeslots for the luchador's eyes. Listen, you know how this works. We're going to play one roar from the lion, pause it, and then count down for the second roar. It's a method that we have not perfected, but are working hard to get,
Starting point is 00:06:30 have a whole lab of people down in Q branch that are trying to figure out if this is the best method or not. And especially since we're recording this one at my house and you won't even hear it on the commentary, but just trust us. We'll talk you through it. Get ready. Now, we're going to play the first roar right here. There it is. And pause. And then we'll count it in. Matt, you counted in this time. Oh, this is fun because we're at your house. I get to be the counter. That's right. So it's a three to one play, right? Right. All right, ma'am. three, two, one, play. And roar.
Starting point is 00:07:07 Oh, this is exciting. Can I, I don't even need to tell you how much I love this movie. Just seeing this Columbia pictures thing in black and white. Annette Benning. Annette Penning tells me I'm watching Casino Royale because I don't think you ever see this in black and white in any other Columbia film. Especially with the Sony logo underneath. Oh, you know?
Starting point is 00:07:27 Yeah. Wow. and then this takes me back. I literally remember seeing this in the theater and how jazzed I was. I don't remember watching this in the theater, but I did, a thousand percent. I did.
Starting point is 00:07:46 It was one of the best experiences of my sad life. Look, I've said it before and I'll say it again. That guy knows how to dress in a warm hat. I tried to get this guy for the London. I was there, too. But I can't remember what? Something like, I think the answer came back, something like, no. Do you find that an I was there two guests back when you were having that wonderful podcast running?
Starting point is 00:08:18 Was it less entertaining when the person was only in one scene with one person? Or was it equally as entertaining? Taining. Taining? Taining? Guys, we buffered a little bit, so bear with us. Yeah, my internet's running slow at the house, so we've got standard deaf here, which always drives me crazy. I know.
Starting point is 00:08:39 What was your question that if they've just done one scene? Yeah, so like if they did one, like for instance, his scene here is, it's a pivotal scene, but it's also one scene with one actor. Yeah, I find that that can be interesting sometimes because just their experience of just shooting one scene is kind of unique. Yeah. And this guy, oh, I should have tried for this guy too. Yeah, bathroom guy? Yeah. Now, I'm sure many of you know this, but looking into your DVD special features,
Starting point is 00:09:06 you'll see this whole cricket scene, deleted scenes where Bond is trailing him through the cricket fields and that's kind of interesting to watch. I tried to get that gun on my podcast. And that magazine. I tried to get his dreamy blue eyes. Even in black and white, they're somehow blue. You can tell. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:26 this little setup scene oh it's so good not well famous James bonding podcast history line and oh well if you're not familiar go back to the first episode
Starting point is 00:09:42 of Casino Real in season one with Maria and Amanda probably still one of the best episodes we've ever done yeah that that segment has persisted
Starting point is 00:09:53 how many years we've been doing this seven years now six years well you know here's a question that I have for not us because we're not the actual filmmakers, but this feels like it's on a different quality film grain. And I'm wondering if it is actually a digital treatment or if it is a
Starting point is 00:10:12 they use the actual black and white. It looks to me like black and white green film. Do you feel it? It's, now this isn't though. That's what's interesting. Right. But you tell, here's what I think. And I don't know the answer. to this and maybe it's on the actual commentary, which you can listen to after. If you've got to spare four and a half hours to watch both, I wonder if this was originally shot in color. And then when they were like, oh no, we liked it black and white. Let's do the whole opening black and white. Yeah, that's interesting. It doesn't look like post black and white to me. Here's how I know I have a problem, Matt. What? Hearing this only makes me now think of the slot machine. Oh, that is a problem. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:59 this movie or this song gives me a visceral happy reaction because I just think of this film. I also think it was a confluence of a time in my life when I don't know, it was just, I remember this whole era of my life by this film, like that summer leading up to it and just the feeling of like anticipation for this movie, but it was also anticipation for other things in my life, but they all combined to become a nostalgic positive memory that I think is all represented. by this film. Five years between films here. Since Die Another Day?
Starting point is 00:11:35 Yeah. Yeah. I mean, so, yeah, already the anticipation. I love the opening credits of this. I do, too. Some people don't. I love them. Some people don't.
Starting point is 00:11:44 Really? Who doesn't? Well, email me. Okay. Some people think that it might be a little to vector graphic eve of the time, you know? Vector graphic E of the time. That's an interesting critique of it.
Starting point is 00:11:57 I think it's just stylized animation. It's beautiful. I agree. Thank you for agreeing. You're welcome. No problem. Like, look, you can even see his blue eyes in that black silhouette. They're there.
Starting point is 00:12:09 They're there. Look out there behind you. Right now, they're behind you, listener. Look at that. Arteries, just pouring hearts. Hearts and clubs. If that has never a flip on the, oh, and here comes Vesper's face. Now, you see, Matt, what happens is that that crosshair will target the amount of money you've won and then shoot it.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Do you think Ava Green had to come in to pose for a picture just for that, or they pulled it from somewhere else? I think they pulled it from the onset photography. Maybe. I've decided just now. Okay. European roulette, by the way. What's the difference? One green.
Starting point is 00:12:43 There's only zero, no double zero. So the odds are better? Yes, that is correct. Odds are pretty good. Odds are not too shabby. Wow, interesting. There are some casinos in Vegas that actually have a third spot, which is like, it's, it's, usually named after the casino that you're in.
Starting point is 00:13:00 And that's a doesn't pay. No, it'll pay if you bet on it. Right. But it just makes all the ads, all the odds worse. Cowards. I know. They don't get it. The great Chris Cornell.
Starting point is 00:13:13 Yeah. Rest in peace. I have come around on this song. I'm on record. It's not loving it. That's exactly what happens on the slot machine, the 007. I got to play that. Just, if anything, just to make you happy.
Starting point is 00:13:32 Matt, I'm telling you, someday, we got to take a James Bonding official Vegas trip. Yeah, we could do a lot there. Oh, these blue eyes are coming at you. Get ready. Oh, I can't wait. They're in shadow. I can't wait. I can't wait to see them.
Starting point is 00:13:47 They're going to be so. Oh, wow. Look at I'm awash in them. Oh, Martin Campbell. You know how to shoot them. man's eyes. He's just looking straight at us. This, of course, filmed on the back lot of Pinewood studios where they had to import a bunch of African-looking dirt, apparently, red-looking dirt. Oh, yeah, because I guess it would have been, you know, your standard English dirt.
Starting point is 00:14:13 Yeah. How long do you think he's been making Mr. White sit there and watch him play pinball? I think he's been through three games. And he's just waiting for a Coke. Oh, yeah, I can't open her on the side. That's a bottle opener. not a can opener. Sorry, everybody. That's all right. I don't need the emails. Do not send in. I gotta be honest, that kid doesn't look like he's playing. No. Mr. White. What a, uh, what a treat. I'm so glad we got him for, for three movies. Three films. I know. That's, that's a rare pull for someone who's not like an MI6 or Felix. Yeah, absolutely. Is there, I mean, other than the characters of Blowfeld and Felix. The Moonraker guy that,
Starting point is 00:14:57 does the double take when he's drinking and for your eyes only moon raker and what is it spot who love me yeah that guy mod adams look how good this guy is and uh you know the the one pigeon actually appeared twice that's true oh we had a landscaper come to do a little work and kind of figure out what we could do with our yard yeah he looks just like donald pleasance and he even has like an eye that doesn't really do what an eye. He's got some unique eyes. And I'm sitting there staring at him the whole time. And I don't know how to, like I want to hire him, even though he may be a little more expensive,
Starting point is 00:15:41 but I'll eat, I'll not eat for a week to have this guy so that I can one day at the end of this job go, could I put you in a Nehru jacket and give you a white cat and just hang out with you for a while? You want to follow me around for a day? His name's Laramie. Oh, wow. That's a very bondie. name. Yeah, he was wonderful. That's more like a
Starting point is 00:16:00 I would say a person who was a MI6 ally, Laramie who passed away in the beginning. That's right. In the opening credits. What is it with Donald Pleasance? He often plays characters that have eye issues. Blofeld, yeah. Dr. Loomis gets
Starting point is 00:16:16 scarred and burn on one side. In great escape, he's blind, he starts going blind. Matt, did you know that until you just said that I didn't realize that Donald Pleasant? played Dr. Loomis. Are you serious? Yes.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Yeah, that's Blofeld, man. That's crazy. I know. But he's got a beard. Yeah. How'd he do that? He's so bald. Remember that first guy they hired his Blowfelt for you only live twice, had a beard.
Starting point is 00:16:41 Oh, yeah. Fired him because he looked like Santa Claus. Which I get, because you want to be afraid, not hoping for presents. Yeah. Now, look, I would bet Mungoose every third time. You'd mostly go, cobra. I'd mostly go snake. I feel like I got to go mongoose because he's like the cute one.
Starting point is 00:17:02 You know? Sure. I'm some people find snakes cute. Who does? I'm goth kids. Malacca. The bomber. Jake Roberts.
Starting point is 00:17:16 Elypsis. Look at that phone. Should have been our promo code for everything. I know. I thought of it too late. God damn. You know what? This guy should have been, does he ever say his name?
Starting point is 00:17:26 That should be Ronson from Skyfall. So you're saying that now Ronson is... Yeah. Oh, that would have been actually pretty cool. Like get the same actor because they kind of look a lot of like. Yeah. And he, you know, like Daniel Craig has since fostered a relationship like he kind of trained in. And now he feels bad because he was...
Starting point is 00:17:45 But I think Ronson, just so I... Just to be clear, I think Ronson in Skyfall, I get the impression that he was a good agent. Right. Yeah, but maybe that's what I'm saying. This guy came along. I don't know. It just would give him an arc. You know how I love it.
Starting point is 00:18:02 You know what I don't like about Skyfall? What? Like this whole like put out to pasture James Bond situation. Yeah. When only one movie ago, he was a brand new, fresh-faced. Oh, yeah. That's always been its biggest issue. It's really a problem for me.
Starting point is 00:18:19 Look at this. Unless you subscribe to my theory of the James Bond timeline, of course, which is this happens. And then Dr. No happens. You can't do that. I just did. Listen, I want to take you back to 2006. I'm in the theater. I'm watching this.
Starting point is 00:18:32 That opening black and white sequence is going, I'm going like, wow, this is different, but it works. It's great. Then comes the song and the titles. I'm like, this is really different. And then this segment? And then this specifically starts happening. And I'm punching people in front and behind me out of excitement.
Starting point is 00:18:51 And I'm just running up and down the aisle screaming. And then it all coalesces. in a certain moment coming up very soon. Oh, look at that. It's so good. It's also shot so well. Yeah. The parkour in this, fuck it.
Starting point is 00:19:07 We say it every time we talk about this movie, but I'll say it right now. It's amazing. Yeah. It's great. It's unique to this movie. The fact that we're at a building under construction gives it a natural sort of,
Starting point is 00:19:24 believable place to exist and happen. Yeah. Now, this is apparently on the site of the Thunderball Hotel or near it in the Bahamas, even though it's supposed to be here in Madagascar. I don't believe you because I think we're in Madagascar. That's true. It said so on the screen, man.
Starting point is 00:19:43 Oh, right. I just watched this two and a half hour YouTube documentary on Casino Rail and they went through a lot of this. You know, it's funny as you and I talked about that, right? Yeah. And then that night, I go on YouTube and it was recommended to me on YouTube. That's freaky. So obviously, they're listening. Maybe it's a new upload, and that's why it's been recommended to both of us and probably all our listeners. Actually,
Starting point is 00:20:06 if you're listening to this now, it's going to get recommended to you. Especially if you're playing it an ear shut of any device. Yeah. So I'm already in on this movie in 2006. Yeah. But I'm not expecting to be even more in, you know? Right. And then this starts happening. Well, that shot's a little goofy, but this crane sequence, I've vomited just with excitement and love. I am. Look at these shots.
Starting point is 00:20:35 Here's what I would have been afraid of, but it doesn't happen because Martin Campbell's so great. I would have been like, are Daniel Craig's eyes going to get lost in the sea, the blue sea behind him? I know. And it turns out it's the sea that gets lost in his eyes. It's right.
Starting point is 00:20:51 Especially when he comes out of that water later. This is it. Bang, bang. Out of bullets. Didn't even expect it. Believable. Catches the gun and throws it back. And then I was sold.
Starting point is 00:21:01 Daniel Craig is the best bond that ever lived. All hail. Put it out on the AP. This is amazing. Look at this. And the music, David Arnold, just crushing it. It's a huge difference from our last commentary track of Golden Island. I know.
Starting point is 00:21:20 And you only live twice. we were a little, I think, sleepy, but man, it's also a nice day out. It's kind of like, feels like the first day of summer or spring, too. Look at that jump. It's crazy. All in one. I wish we stayed with that one. Oh. It's so cool. This is some of the best 10 minutes of cinema. This is, I love it. He doesn't quite make it. Oh, it's great. It's so good. It's great. Let's see what's going on here. He's got to, he's got to, he's got a, he's got a, button up short sleeve with a is it a single layer or is it two t-shirts underneath two t-shirts looks like he's got a white collar and a gray collar having i think it's just one he doesn't seem like
Starting point is 00:22:08 a two t-shirt kind of guy well unless he knows he's going to sweat through one and then he layers up you know you know it's cracking me up all those cragnot bond morons um and i'm happy to not have been one of them while they're filming this all the craig not bond people are all a buzz and this is what's happening This is what's being made. Yeah. And I just, like, poor Craig to even have to deal with that when he's going to give you the greatest bond gift you've ever gotten you in, Greats. I bet people don't admit they were Craig not bonders.
Starting point is 00:22:41 I'll admit that I was cautious about it, because, literally because of his blondeness. Really? Yeah. I was all in. Look at that double jump shot. I do love this iteration. of James Bond. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:01 Man, if this last one could give us another casino Royale, just something that feels so alive and fresh. Yeah, I think we're on board, thanks to the, you know, phantoms out there in the snow. What could it mean? What if he has to break into Andrew Lloyd Weber's property for something? That is Andrew Lloyd Weber.
Starting point is 00:23:22 So I learned also this embassy as a restaurant you can go to in the Bahamas. Well, I think I have found another, episode we should do i think so too take a little trip down to the bahamas go to paradise island look at look at him look at that he's got that sweet omega-sie master on oh yeah i gotta put mine on i've been wearing it i've been loving it have you uh i haven't gotten it sized yet oh come on buddy i haven't been out of the house i'm not gonna off the ground i'm not gonna fault you because that's just how i'd live my life if i could well all day every day this is one of the first shot i'm
Starting point is 00:23:58 they did. Or the one where he's dragging him out of this room, I think. I think I know more facts about this movie than most of the Bond movies. Well, I think that's going to be a welcome change of pace from our normal commentary tracks. Yeah. Because we don't want to be a bunch of fact nerds, but I can't help it. I can't help it with this one. I just want to celebrate it.
Starting point is 00:24:22 This is one of the first shots. I have to say, there has been, there's so much, every shot we've seen, of this film post gun barrel sequence is full of energy. Yeah. Which is a nice contrast to the black and white opening. Right.
Starting point is 00:24:40 I love this movie. And let me correct myself. I love 90% of this movie. Really? Yeah. What part of this movie don't you like? After the first ending. After the...
Starting point is 00:24:55 After the... After the... Before the Venice? part or after the Venice I like post-hospital stay I wish the movie ended with Math is getting tasered and taken away and James and
Starting point is 00:25:11 Vesper being in love so that the second so that in quantum could have started there controversial I know I might have to disagree with you but I understand where you're coming from you're welcome to
Starting point is 00:25:24 listen to me now that's a studio I know. I built it. You can so tell it's a studio background behind him. Again, because his eyes keep getting lost in blue backgrounds. Oof. It's not like James to carry two guns. He got the, he got the bomber's gun. Oh, yeah. Right? No, he threw it at him. I think he got the gun from office guy. Yeah, that's what I meant. I think that was James Bond. That's what he should have said. And then it should have gone, bina, puana. And then in the background, we see him taking off in a jetpack.
Starting point is 00:26:14 Then I would have been on board. I'm kidding, I was on board. You know that cute little phone. Was that Nokia? Probably in Erickson, do the product placements. He should reply and go, new phone, who dis? New bomber, who dis? Now, then you get a little bit of a mystery here.
Starting point is 00:26:35 What the hell's ellipsis mean? All that action, follow. up by a mystery. And a yacht. Oh, yeah. Thanks, a yacht. Boo. Yay.
Starting point is 00:26:49 Studio. No, they're on a yacht. Studio. Studio. These are interesting casting choices, these two. I love it. Yeah, he looked like my downstairs neighbor I used to have. Nicole?
Starting point is 00:27:05 No, Jean. And she looks like my second grade teacher, Mrs. Yoshimoto. Hashimoto. That's amazing. So he's just having two people over on his yacht that he doesn't maybe seem to know. I think he's just, I think when you're in the high stakes poker world, you sort of just find names of people who are playing high stakes and you play with them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:32 That's the chief. Yeah. Now, Mads-Mickleson's come a long way since this, but before, you know, this was really kind of everybody's first exposure to him for the most part. this was apparently first supposed to be Bruno Gans. Oh, I thought you could say Bruno Kirby, which would have been a very different choice. Yeah, because he was dead by then, wasn't he? No, he was alive.
Starting point is 00:27:53 Stop prematurely putting Bruno Kirby in the grave. Sorry. You're always doing that. Oh, look, it's the Sony Bravia ad on the right. Even their ads were product placement. What do you think of this guy? This guy looks exactly like Silva's henchman. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 00:28:12 It could be. And he's kind of like Elvis, too, in Quantum. No, Elvis had great hair. That guy looks like That photo is very funny. I wish I could have paused it. If you think this is crazy, you should have seen what was happening in committee room too.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Oh my God. This guy's come a long way too, Mr. Game of Thrones and Rome. And it's funny because he's so lanky here, but now he's this kind of big bruiser guy. Have you... Tobias Menzies? Do you know the excitement I get when I hit a bunch of Judy Dench's in a row on that slot machine? Wait, Judy Dench is one of the...
Starting point is 00:28:54 Yes. That should pay the most. I agree. All right. So he's... Does this count as a gadget? No, it's just a SD card reader. This is also why I didn't understand what his move is here.
Starting point is 00:29:09 Why is he... Why did he decide to do this at M's apartment? Does he... I think he's on her computer. Yes. So he needs that special software. Yeah, but he can't go back to the office? I guess not.
Starting point is 00:29:23 But he also wants to talk to her, right? You know who would have helped him out? Tanner. Yeah, but old Tanner. Old Tanner. Old drunken Tanner. He showed up in something I was watching. Oh, what was it?
Starting point is 00:29:34 Oh, I'm going to go quiet for a while. The Ocean Club. Oh, proof of life. Oh, sure. Showed up in that thing from the same time period of the Pierce Brosons. Yeah, right. It'd be great. If the MI6 software said the Ocean Club, would you like a reservation? Yes or no?
Starting point is 00:29:55 M. M. Y.N. Olivia Mansfield. Just an elevator into her home. Well, I mean... She lives in a hotel lobby. That's the B's knees right there. Yeah. Nice place. I like that she moved out of there into that townhouse for Skyfall.
Starting point is 00:30:11 After her husband died, I think. That is funny. Like, maybe her husband loved all the modern stuff, and then he died and she wanted to get back to... Well, you know, he was a great lover of poetry. He was. Yeah. A new biddy. By the way, it's crazy that it's in the newspaper. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:35 It's almost like that might be an issue of tomorrow. Tomorrow never dies. That's right. Oh my God. This whole thing was done by, this whole thing was in. It was all done by the Carver Media Group in an effort to retain exclusive broadcast rights in China. Madagascar. maybe.
Starting point is 00:30:57 The hub of all news. Do you think that's a coincidence? What? That her name is a beginning with an M? Well, they've done it now with Mallory, too. Yeah. They're kind of keeping with that. Okay, well, maybe that means that you, it's one of the prerequisites.
Starting point is 00:31:17 Matt, you could be an M. Yes. Oh, my God. Like I would be a G. What, uh, treat that would be. Yeah. What would I go to G section for? Good living.
Starting point is 00:31:30 Hey, welcome down. We're in the basement. We got no windows, but we're lifting weights and smoking. Smoking what, G? Oh, just, if you have to ask, man, you don't know. G-section. Oh, I'm Klaus Hurgisheimer from G-section. Oh, hey, Klaus.
Starting point is 00:31:48 I guess we also do security and radiation, are you? Okay, you're cool here. Thanks. But are you wearing your Sensamia Brown Derby badge? There you go, buddy. Oh, my God. What a good time. Hey, hey, you ever need anyone for one of them missions?
Starting point is 00:32:03 Well, you know, not, not with your skill set, at least not yet. Oh, no, I got lots of skill sets, man. Well, right now it just seems like your skill set is having a good time. I play tenor banjo sometimes sitting out on the dock of the bay. That's good to know. You seen my Tommy Bahama collection? I have, actually. Take one with you, man.
Starting point is 00:32:22 Take one with me. I'm not doing anything with them. I barely change clothes. I've noticed. Yeah. You're also sure. shirtless right now. Well, am I or am I top full, am I skin full? Look at these. Wouldn't you be bottom full? Now, I do shave my chest, but every other hair, so it's really just a thinning. So you're really,
Starting point is 00:32:43 it's really cultivated. Yeah. Yeah. Uh-huh. Yeah, that's right. Oh, yeah. All right, well, I'll be back later. All right. I'll see you. Thanks, Jay. You bet. Boy, oh, boy. Remember this from the trailer, him walking out like that. Now, this is one of the fashions maybe that's dated a little bit. Yes, boat fashion. This car. Come on. I think it was funny. And deliberately so, right?
Starting point is 00:33:07 Yeah, I think so. It is a type R though. It's the sporty of the bunch. But they don't present it as a joke because they're still giving you the music that makes it seem like it's cool. But I think that, if I'm not mistaken, isn't that the joke? I guess. It would be so stupid if it was like, boing, boing, boi. If that's what it was doing.
Starting point is 00:33:27 Eric said. Those Purcells are a little dated. The glasses? Yeah. Yeah, those are rough. McGruff the crime dog. Victoria's Secret. Canada and America.
Starting point is 00:33:46 I like how James has to like to look at everything. A lot of people like to get up high. He goes low. He goes low. That's what makes him James Bond. Even their little bits in this. movie are so good. Skip a beat. I love that about him. Not only is he doing a fuck you to them, but he's furthering the mission. Right, because now that he has that range rover, he can set off
Starting point is 00:34:14 all kinds of car alarms. This is screenwriting 101. This movie should be taught at USC film school. I think this is screenwriting 201. This is an advanced screenplay. You're right. This is screenwriting 1001. Oh, no. Oh, no. Catches the gun, throws the keys, this guy can't be bothered. It would have been funnier, Matt, correct me if I'm wrong. If they built a fake water fountain, then he put the key in there. Dozens of hours of work going into that joke.
Starting point is 00:34:49 Yeah. I'm planning the whole commentary around it today we did. So this is one plot point that some people have a beef with. I get it. It's a little ridiculous. Well, that he's following the time of this text, and it just so happens that this guy texts, it right when he's on camera at the valet station.
Starting point is 00:35:08 So it seems a little ridiculous. Well, there were enough cameras that I think it's really less a, less a storytelling problem and more of a convenience of production situation. Like, it all makes sense to me. Like, go, where was he? Okay. Oh, it's a public place. They must have security cameras. Now I've got to get in there.
Starting point is 00:35:34 It all tracks for me. Okay. So thank you all for asking. Yeah, thank you. If it tracked. Man, I'd love to get my hands in some of those security disks. Sweet. On those July 6th.
Starting point is 00:35:47 Yeah. So 712 p.m. 22 seconds. Fatal flaw he doesn't know is that their clocks haven't been reset for daylight savings. Well, it's awfully bright even for 712. Oh, hello. How are you, Aston Martin? You're talking about his sandals?
Starting point is 00:36:07 How are you, sandals? beach resort. So weird that this happened at Sandals. Club med. It's all inclusive though, so that's pretty cool. Yeah. Perfectly in sync. He got it. He did it.
Starting point is 00:36:26 Oh man. I just love fancy hotels. Yeah. Where someone is running around with a tray of drinks. This is also the first time you see like an actual... Stupid handsome, by the way. I just want to say that right now. An actual flirtation that isn't Bond doing some, like, corny one-liner. Like, they're just actually having a little chemistry here. It's not written as quippy wordplay.
Starting point is 00:36:54 That's what another thing that's so refreshing about this. Like, Brosnan would have come up and gone like, hmm, how are they? His shoes also would have been tight and he would have acted like it. I think what's happening here, actually, is just they're both drawn to each other's blue eyes. And they're staring each other down more of like a who's eye? eyes are bluer. Imagine if they had a child, their eyes would be sea through. That child would also be riding an Arabian white horse. That's right. Along the beach. This is crazy. I'm only guessing it's an Arabian because those are the only white horses I can think of. Could be a Belgian draft.
Starting point is 00:37:32 He was underwater that whole time. He actually, his hotel room, Matt, had a little tunnel. You could swim out to the ocean through the toilet. sorry this keeps going standard deaf right when it comes out of the water they don't know that don't I know it though don't worry uh Demetrius I find it odd that Demetrius uh like where is she is she going into the hotel no he lives here this is his house oh it's a very big house yeah he's doing very well for himself on this documentary there was this big big old house now she has a great nose Solange. Big natural nose. I love a nose like that. BNN. Yeah. Big naturals. I love big naturals. I love to noses. I love this. Who were the, who were the text that came by M's house to install this? I don't know. Sorry, Mom. Be a minute. Uh, you've got, you got a power outlet out here.
Starting point is 00:38:37 I noticed your husband's asleep. He was asleep last time I came here. I think he might be dead. Looks like you're the one who puts in the work, am I right? I think you're going to be referencing how he's been dead for a while when you're at a deposition reading what Chaucer or Tenson. Look, here's what I'm going to have to do. I'm going to have to take it. Co-axle cable, I'm going to have to run it through this wall. You got a drill.
Starting point is 00:39:03 The latest tech installed in M's nightstand. Also, doesn't she have something in quantum in her bathroom, like in the mirror or something? She has like a computer screen. Let me tell you, aesthetically. the MI6 aesthetic in quantum is my favorite. Do you like that? Of all...
Starting point is 00:39:20 Even the smart table graphics and all that? Yes. Yeah, I like it. I like how it links in with the titles, too. Now, that's the woman from Thunderball there on the left, the redhead. Oh, wow. She's the one that he dances with at the club, and then at the kiss, kiss, bang, bang.
Starting point is 00:39:35 And then this other guy with the glasses is, like, owns all these hotels in the Bahamas and kind of help the broccoli shoot this and get. the construction site and everything. Well, then, quite frankly, he deserves to be in this film. That's right. Big natural nose. Love it. This is BNN.
Starting point is 00:39:58 She looks to me like what the Kardashians are trying to be. With natural noses. Yeah. Demetrius also has a very natural nose. Yeah. She got great eyebrows, too. Yeah. She's gorgeous.
Starting point is 00:40:17 This is the scene we watch, huh? That woman that's in Thunderball is from this old family. that owns all a bunch of the island and they're just this old aristocratic English family called the O'Connell's or the O'Donnells or something and a bunch of them were affiliated with Thunderball. I really like that poker table. Yeah, that's nice. Although I will say it's interesting. There's this place in the center for the pot, but there is not enough for room.
Starting point is 00:40:45 The place for the flop and the term for the car, for the community cards is in the sort of right in front of the dealer. I guess that much, which I think is... You think it should be in the middle? Slightly poor design. I love how... I love it. I love it, I love it, too.
Starting point is 00:41:03 She's a real dealer. You know what it is? It's the 900th time she's had to say this to him. Yeah. He keeps trying to put it at... Here's another thing that has bothered me about this film. Are you ready? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:13 He throws down an Aston Martin DB9 keychain. Oh. It's a modern Aston Martin. Interesting. but he's got a DB 5. Is the DB 9 the one that Daniel Craig ends up getting? He ends up driving a DBS, which is sort of based on that. I don't understand.
Starting point is 00:41:33 And then the DBS is also the one from Honor Majesty Secret Service? I can't believe he was betting out like that with the ace on the board. Trip Aces. She loves it. That's not Tripp. That's a set. Triple Aces? Trip Aces would be if he had one ace and there were two Aces
Starting point is 00:41:51 on the board. Welcome to Poker Talk with Matt Myro. Today my guest is Matt Goreley. Hi, I don't know much about poker. I know how to play, but I don't know that kind of stuff. That guy is really hotel owner guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:09 Really doing a pretty good job of extracting, not overdoing it, not hamming it up. Not going, my word. The stakes at this table. Ooh. What a hand. What are the odds? Oh, I mean, literally, that's not a rhetorical question.
Starting point is 00:42:30 What are they? Well, the odds of being dealt pocket-a-s is mad. No, no one. Never tell me the odds. What if he was, why is this not happened? So, super rich guy, let's say he's that guy, hotel guy. What if he grew up loving, loving, loving, loving these franchises, loving the James Bond movies.
Starting point is 00:42:52 Probably did. What if, just for the fuck of it, he decided to sink 200 million of his own dollars into a remake starring him. As Bond. Just a shot for shot remake of As Bond. Or a Rosencrantz-Gildenstern spin-off where we follow the poker guy. Oh my God. Before and after this game.
Starting point is 00:43:11 You know that's the dream, right? Just to do one of these weird side character shows. Yeah. Yeah. What, by the way, what did you think of Demetrius's outfit? fit. I'm intrigued. It's like, slacks a vest over a kind of print Hawaiian shirt, short sleeve. I think it's too much. It is, but for him, it really works. But it's also, it's like, it's a Bahamanian situation where like these guys, you know, in their dress clothes, it's, it's, what do you call it,
Starting point is 00:43:41 it, uh, shorts. Shorts are like, they're fancy. Yeah. He's so charming. She's such a great profile. The way he drove in that circle. That was. And you know what? That charmed me when I first saw it. I'm like, no, he didn't. Oh, I had the same reaction. Like, can you believe that I'm falling this much in love? Oh, he does have a coat. Yeah. I don't know if you know this about coats, but they're versatile. You can wear them or not. Right. Oh, that guy's got some blue eyes, too. I'm lost in his now. Now I'm lost in his eyes. Mm-hmm. Mickleson was really doing a great job of not having eyebrows. He's got one eye that's the lightest in the whole movie. look at what got them to the floor oh he does have a pool right off of his room oh yeah off his
Starting point is 00:44:31 a via oh yeah private pool he does like married women he doesn't make a habit of it though yeah this whole thing that he does embed this girl too was just telling you you're in for a different bond you better buckle up because what you thought was bond everything's changed now get out of here now please do your best to not be here yeah this is it the movie ends in one minute so get out of here you find out. I was just going to look up something regarding that car, actually, while I'm thinking about it.
Starting point is 00:45:07 How come this woman didn't show up in anything much else? Maybe she does some foreign films. Same thing with Severin. I don't want to spoil it for you, Matt, but she dies in this movie. What? Yeah. What do you mean?
Starting point is 00:45:18 She dies her on the beach? She dies her hair? No, no. She dies her hair on the beach. She passes away. She passes away fair warehouse? online merchandise retail? Wayfair.com. Yeah, Wayfair.com.
Starting point is 00:45:33 I don't understand. This episode of the podcast is not brought to you by Wayfair. Unless it is, then you know. And there's probably a promo code. And it's Bond. Wait, she's just about to get to work and he's thinking business. This is not the Bond. We're used to.
Starting point is 00:45:51 People get over it. I feel like we've accepted him as a human. as a race of moviegoers. Yeah. Do you, do you agree? As a what? Like, as a, as a race of moviegoers, I met the entire homo sapien species. I do agree.
Starting point is 00:46:09 I think we all are on board for Daniel Craig. Oh, if you're not already, you're, you're simple. You're simple? Yeah. And I don't mean simple minds. No, I mean like you're a dullard. wait you do mean simple mind yeah but not simple minds the band no don't you forget about me that's what pierce brousin was singing outside the set every day they were recorded every day they were taping he was out there
Starting point is 00:46:41 he used it the say anything thing of the boombox in a raincoat oh oh man you know what i'd really like to do I'd like to be in this movie It's not too late They're saying you can't drive Stick Shift You're afraid to swim There's something a little I don't know
Starting point is 00:47:10 That DB5 looks a little Different than the DB5 to me And I'm just trying to figure that out As to why that is Oh man You never see this guy either Why didn't they just call it Body Works Oh Body Worlds
Starting point is 00:47:25 Why do you think they got to change the name Isn't it body works? It is. But they call it body worlds in this. Isn't the guy, isn't the doctor who did this? Isn't he in this movie? No, I'm just thinking of that picture back there. You're thinking of Richard Branson?
Starting point is 00:47:41 Yes. Yes, I'm always thinking of Richard Branson. You know, in fact, as I was driving over here, I was just like, what's Richard Branson up to right now? Let's bring him out. Hey. Grab a mic, Richie. Oh, clever.
Starting point is 00:47:58 Yeah. From one game to the next. That, uh, I went to that, okay. I did too. And I got to say, as someone who worked at a funeral home for four and a half years and has seen everything, I was unsettled by it. Really? Yes. Well, the thing that was unsettling was some, some of them have hair. And I do mean hair. Right. And you weren't ready for it. Nope. Yeah, but I found it, I don't know, I just found it so unsettling. You also can't just walk up to them like this. You. either. You can when you're Demetrius.
Starting point is 00:48:31 Yeah, you can. I mean, he should have just done it. Yeah. Well, you're in a public place, but I don't want to do that. Wait, but James Bond does. I mean, come on. What if anybody did look at them? They wouldn't look at the knife.
Starting point is 00:48:47 They would look at their intense eye contact and go like, what are these two doing? They better fucking kiss or not. It's like one man's trying to make the other man kiss him. It'd be so funny if he leaned in just as he did that and said, I slept with your wife. It was very cool. Now that... There he is.
Starting point is 00:49:04 That guy that was being interviewed as they were walking is that German doctor. Oh. But that hay over there looked to distract him. At first I was like, oh, not that. But then it does make sense that he would do that if like the cops are there, like we both have to quit this. And that's why he would look. It just everything checks out in this goddamn movie.
Starting point is 00:49:24 Except that he keeps killing people. Yeah. Oh, I love this guy. The Terminator? Oh, yeah. The Rambinator? clumsy bolton of James Bond. I mean, it doesn't make sense that they sort of timed it out correctly.
Starting point is 00:49:43 What do you mean? Like, I'm going to go leave this thing on this poker chip. Like, why wouldn't he just get it, give it to him? No, yeah. I mean, like, it may, you know, it's not going to be there for like 10 minutes. This guy would have probably been there. So I buy it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:58 And I think he left it there because maybe they don't know who they each other are, Demetrios, and this guy. Oh. That's a nice way of keeping everything cool. Also, how do they get by without a 555 number? 555. I think it's just literal advertisement for the Miami-Dade taxi. That'd be nice. Is this a...
Starting point is 00:50:20 There's a... Oh, my God. There's old Dickie B. I can't believe that he's going to have to get tricked. They should show him going on any other airline but Virgin. I was so sad when Virgin America got sold to Alaska. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:43 Persol prominently displayed. So this guy... already knows. Well, he knows something's up from that phone call. Oh, right. I don't think that a leather bomber jacket. Bonn gets caught. It's not like him.
Starting point is 00:51:03 Also, where did he duck down to? There's nothing to duck behind. What else is this guy in? I don't know. I'm going to find out. Please do. That's the beauty of what I'm doing right now. I can do that.
Starting point is 00:51:18 You know my name. You know my name. You know my name You know my name Look up the number You know you know You know You know my name
Starting point is 00:51:36 We should do a mashup of those I think they already I mean That is kind of a mashable They're very similar even melodically Not just lyrically Um Full cast
Starting point is 00:51:51 why is villiers such a bureaucratic prick and why didn't he continue on but tanner kind of became his part it is interesting I think because Tanner was does tanner shop in quantum or skyfall he's in quantum and skyfall
Starting point is 00:52:13 yeah but he has a small part in quantum I wonder if this guy wasn't available because he was doing Rome um the b 52 song, of course. You mean? Rome if you want to. Rome across the world. This is Claudio Santa Maria. And what else he been in? A lot of Spanish language stuff. This guy, by the way, looks just like my friend Jesse Dean. I don't expect that to resonate with anyone, but I just had to say it. But if Jesse's out there,
Starting point is 00:52:51 listening. That's right. Jesse Dean in his fun machine. Hoover Dean Aderdale. I mean, just think about how wet everything must have gotten. Also, pretty good heist, you know, pretty good way for this guy to make it believable that he infiltrates the airport security. Totally. Do you think he would have had to set off that alarm? He must have, right, regardless his plan was to set off the alarm? I think so. Bon, bond. It's hard. It's hard to think of a good way through airport security in a movie with something new.
Starting point is 00:53:36 I have one in my back pocket that I remember writing something I'm going to use, but I promise not to try it in real life. So the woman in the yacht in the yacht scene who was playing poker. poker. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:01 Was, her name is Madam Wu. Oh, that sounds familiar. Has she been in something else? This is always a weird shot too with these, because that's a model, right? And they're just putting these weird extras in. That seems so fake.
Starting point is 00:54:16 Oh, I've never even tracked that as fake. Yeah. Madam Wu, was she from some other Bond thing or something? Isn't she in, um, um, well, let me just take a gander here.
Starting point is 00:54:33 man. Take a game. You only live twice. She's also in. Who is she in that? Hang on. Is she the one in the opening sequence, I think? The actresses named Cy Chin, in case you're actually wondering.
Starting point is 00:54:48 The character's name is Madam Wu. She is Ling, Chinese girl in Hong Kong. Isn't that the girl at the opening when he gets shot? Yes. Oh my God. So they had her at the poker. table. That lends credence to your... That's so cool.
Starting point is 00:55:12 Yep. All the same universe. She's the one through line. Connect the dots, man. Madam Wu. Ling Wu. Look at this. Come on. Amazing.
Starting point is 00:55:28 We haven't even gotten to the novel yet and this movie's blow in my mind. Which is part of the length of it. Yeah. Again, I really like Carlos. his look and acting. I think he's doing a great job. Yeah, he's good.
Starting point is 00:55:44 I would so buy him as a Terminator. Hang in there, Matt. I'm just getting comfy. Skyfleets coming. You sure you don't want a gin and tonic? Don't you think that would make you more Yonnie? I think it'd be a little more John Tess than Yanni, but it's going to get smooth jazzy either way. Hello?
Starting point is 00:56:05 This sequence, this whole airport sequence is great. Yeah. I mean, look. They shot this at three. Airports. Look at that. That was another moment in the theater where I just went, why aren't you people screaming right now?
Starting point is 00:56:23 That car, by the way, that tower, that plane tower, it's so low center of gravity that I feel like it would never roll. Right. Tex-Ran. Hello, I'm Tech-Ran. The only Ron in Texas. I killed all the rest. Oh, he didn't mean.
Starting point is 00:56:50 to hit the baggage. No wonder my baggage is always delayed. Oh, no. I guess if we're going to go through a bus, might as well go through the squishy part. Right. We've said this before in something, but it feels like naked gun where just things keep coming.
Starting point is 00:57:09 Yes. I mean, this is good side-by-side seat fighting. That's right. This and Raiders the Lost Ark, that's about all you're going to get. They're kind of similar, actually. I mean, the goals are the same. got to do Indiana Jonesing.
Starting point is 00:57:29 I know we do. Because when we had Ruston before, we just did a general discussion. Yes. So we'd cover the movies. We'd have to, yeah, it's just like, I'm just pitching a miniseries.
Starting point is 00:57:40 Yeah. And also pitching, obviously Star Warsing needs to happen. Yeah, right. I'm down. And then we're going to have to really sit and discuss chronological or or timeline.
Starting point is 00:57:58 You mean like chronological release? Yeah. It's got to be chronological release. You think so? Yeah. That's interesting. Well, you know what? I think we should do one podcast where we announce the podcast and then allow everyone to vote.
Starting point is 00:58:14 Hmm. I don't know because the impact is meant, like you're not meant to know Vader's Luke's father when you're watching those original trilogy, you know? That's true. That's a good point. For dramatic impact. and that Luke and Lay are sister and brother and that the prequels are horrible. You shouldn't know that.
Starting point is 00:58:37 You're not going to know that going in. Of course not. Or the Ewoks are friendly meat eaters? No, wait, you're supposed to know that. Friendly meat eaters. They are friendly meat eaters. Oh, they're carnivores. Yupnup.
Starting point is 00:59:01 Yubnup. Yubna. Akiata. Have you ever seen the Today Show EWox? No. It is the best YouTube funny video ever. There's two EWox on the Today Show for Halloween, and one of them is drunk or something and starts moonwalking and humping the leg of Al Roker.
Starting point is 00:59:23 You have to watch it. It's one of my favorite things ever. and watch the full version. It's like four minutes and it is, it never ceases to please me to no end. That, the Orson Wells and the Butter Crisis. Those are my three faves. Well, look at this.
Starting point is 00:59:46 He did it. Even he's surprised. What a good segment. Oh, my God. Just pouring gas. Guys, it's okay with the British secret. Oh, okay. And you think everything's fine.
Starting point is 00:59:59 I mean, that was just a little bit unnecessary. I love the bleachers that are there for the plane release. I love Skyfall, but there's no way Skyfall beats this movie. Oh, I agree. But some people, a lot of people think Skyfall's the best one.
Starting point is 01:00:24 This movie sort of stands alone for me. It just gets everything right. Thank God he programmed those beeps. I know. Why would it have those? And here's yet another moment. moment where I'm in. Whose idea is that? The script?
Starting point is 01:00:46 Campbell or Daniel Craig, do you think? It's a great question. I think the script. I think it's in the script. I had to guess. I really want to get my hands on that script. Also, every time we cover this movie, we go, I can't, I don't know what short selling is.
Starting point is 01:01:04 Then someone says something that explains it really easily. By the time this rolls around again, I've forgotten what short selling is. It's just betting on a stock's value. So don't even bother sending. it because I'm just going to forget it. Blockbuster worker. I don't know what it was like when that guy went to go pick up Daniel Gregg. I know.
Starting point is 01:01:21 Did he go bail him out of jail? What happened? Whoops-a-dazy. Oof. What did he do to her, drown her? Strangler? Yes. And yes.
Starting point is 01:01:37 Or just a pitch. She had a heart attack while laying in a hammock. How do you know that? How do you know that? How do you know that? You haven't even looked at the body. She's probably got wounds. Unless M came down and rolled her into the hammock.
Starting point is 01:01:57 He's got kind of a zau pattern of facial scarring. It looks like paper cuts. Yeah. Which is, I mean, that's brutal. Look at this place. I think Judy Dench is just fabulous in this. Yeah. Oh, good.
Starting point is 01:02:19 The heavy things here. You guys really having time struggling. They also costume that guy as realistically as possible. Yeah, for sure. Do you think he thought maybe I'm going to be the new cue? Maybe, yeah. He kind of is in this movie. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:37 He's got to be someone the Broccoli's No, too, because he doesn't seem like an actor. Or he's the world's greatest actor. Or he's played by Andy Circus on Mow Cap Suit. Andy Circus plays that little thing. It's like Polar Express where Tom Hap Suit. Hanks played everybody, but Andy Zerkes plays all inanimate objects. That all apart, I almost watched Danny McBride.
Starting point is 01:03:09 Pretty cool, right? Yeah, gazebo in the middle of it. Guy Fleet stock. It seems like a good bet. Should I buy something now? Yeah. Do you think Skyfleet was supposed to be Airbus? I guess.
Starting point is 01:03:40 This is the scene that gets us. It's never what you expect. Totally. It's really always a matter of, like, This whole $10 million buy-in for the poker tournament, it's not even unheard of in like legitimate high-stakes tournaments. 10 million buy-in? Yeah. Jesus.
Starting point is 01:03:57 Who are those two? That's Phil and Janice. The sweetheart darlings of MI6. Bahamas. They're in HR. They're actually, they do, they do, they handle the expenses. So they're here to check out and make sure everyone's using. their predium correctly.
Starting point is 01:04:23 Love this line. No. This movie delivers a wonderful thing at least every five minutes. And it's got so many five minutes. I know. It really does. It's got so many five minutes. So this movie is more wonderful things than almost any other movie.
Starting point is 01:04:53 And here we go. This is really the start of the novel. And what should have been the start of the movie? Yeah. No. What? I agree that that was a stupid thing to say. And I apologize to everyone listening.
Starting point is 01:05:05 Hmm. Look, if you're going to go to a train car, I think I'd want one of those lay down rooms. Vespirland. Best bond girl there is. Yep. Her and Pliny O'Toole, one and two. That's so great. She doesn't have to change her fucking business card when a king takes over.
Starting point is 01:05:34 What does it say? HM. Treasury. Oh, yeah. here's my thing I want to bring up now that we're watching this movie together for what probably is the third or fifth time. She really is playing this cool for someone whose boyfriend she thinks is going to be killed. And like she's like there's too much charming verbal interplay between the two with her situation being what it is. is. But if you think about it that she's going into this, not looking to protect the treasurer's money,
Starting point is 01:06:16 but to make sure that the terrorists get the money, it does make a little sense. Like, she has a game to play. Yeah, but the other part... The charming could be coming from that. Yeah, but the game that, the game, though, here's the other thing. She has no control over the other three people in the tournament. Right, but they're supposedly not as much a threat. Yeah, but anyone can get lucky. why they didn't just bribe a dealer and call it a fucking day is beyond me. Like, that's really what they should have done. What do you mean? They should have just bribed the dealer, giving the dealer $10 million to fancy the game up, you know?
Starting point is 01:07:03 Or the tournament director. I've had them on, I was there too. Let me get them on the line. I also ran into them in Trader Joe's. Did you really? Yeah. That's great. He's a wonderful man.
Starting point is 01:07:15 I love that he's local to this Trader Joe's. Yeah, it was on Halloween, and I said, what are you doing for Halloween? I'm just staying in, having, going to friends, having our kids just play. So that's not an accent that he does for the movie? No, he's Swiss. That's cool. I don't know why that's cool, but it's cool. It is cool.
Starting point is 01:07:37 You just don't meet many Swiss people. Right. this sizing up of each other. Yes, it's a little written, but it's written so well. I love it. But again, just playing it real cool for someone
Starting point is 01:07:52 who's a unibrow boyfriend is on the line. Now, there was an issue with her, apparently they were concerned she couldn't do an English accent, but I think she does one pretty well. Yeah, it's a little muddy. But it's certainly better than anything I could do. Eva Grain. Always doing things better than me. Me too. All of us. Omega, Matt.
Starting point is 01:08:24 Oh, yeah. That's the one. Beautiful. She said Boston. B-A-H-H-H-S-T-A-W-D. Coltout. Boston. You're right. There is a little bit like, if she's worried about a war for that, seems like a bridge too far. But it also throws you off the scent. You don't see it coming. That's true. That's true. But there are ways you could have mitigated. Again, this is, this, here's part of the problem, guys, when you love, when you love a movie so much and you watch it so many times. Look at him. You're then left to just start picking apart minutiae that does not matter. And this movie does have some questions to it still. You know, it's not, it doesn't give you 100% of the answers about Vesper. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:25 Which I kind of like. I'd like 40% more answers. That much. It does give you the best Michael G. Wilson cameo of the franchise, though. Yeah. Love of that Algerian love not, huh? It's too much. I think it's too much now.
Starting point is 01:09:51 I've ruined the movie for myself. I hate me. Why? Because now you're... Now I'm just watching her performance and thinking about her backstory, and now I'm not buying it. That's like the time I watched Meatball. I went, oh, Bill Murray's character is an absolute asshole. and lonely, always on, like, just aggressive, gross human,
Starting point is 01:10:12 and I couldn't watch the movie anymore. But this movie cannot be ruined. Thank God. I would feel, honestly, it would be like, it would be like if I gave your cat away. That's how bad I would feel if I ruined this movie for you. I know. Well, I'd rather you give my cat away than ruin this movie.
Starting point is 01:10:31 Just kidding, Margo. Margo, if I give you away, it's going to be to a loving home that loves cats. There's no more, there's no home that could love her more than us. That's true. Why aren't you on my lap? Come on. Come here. I love her bangs.
Starting point is 01:10:51 Margo's? Yes. We cut bangs. Margot would look very funny with bangs. Sometimes when we brush her, so much fluff comes off, we can put it on her head like a Trump wig. That's very funny. I was just going to say how great it would be if you had a little wig that looked just like that woman's hair and put it up Margo. Now she's so mad about, why is she so mad about him blowing her cover that she doesn't have? She's being, I think she's being reckless,
Starting point is 01:11:20 but that would be good for her. Yes. Theoretically, right? It'd be great. But also maybe she's just uncomfortable with him. That's a good line. Breaking the rules. Here's a gun and in a manila envelope. No big deal. Or no, that's the next one. No, no, it's in the car. But there is one where he gives her the envelope, just a flimsy manila envelope with a gun and a silencer in it. Well, it is walk.
Starting point is 01:11:52 It's the walk of a man who is at home and an Aston Martin. Taking two parking spots. Dale Craig does own a couple. A couple. Mm-hmm. BS. 527 horsepower. If someone gave me that, I'd still feel silly driving around in it.
Starting point is 01:12:12 I would drive around in it. Well, I would. I don't know if I would like go to places with it, but I would certainly drive around in it. I'd wear groucho glasses. Well, that's okay, because it's not going to really interfere with your field of vision.
Starting point is 01:12:27 His cuts have healed from scene to scene. They're now gone. Yeah, how long is it been? They were sort of healed on the train. Huh. And now they're gone. So I'm going to guess the train travel took four days. Pretty quick healer.
Starting point is 01:12:40 This guy is a regular Wolverine. Oh yeah Listen to that baby purr Oh, Mathis Who doesn't love Mathis? Well, I'll tell you who doesn't love Mathis James at the end of this movie Yeah, that's right
Starting point is 01:12:55 Great hair, Mathis Oh, I can't argue with that That is a solid head of hair I love his big nose too I just love good distinct noses He's like Nathan Lane's European doppelganger Oh my God Those two in the producers?
Starting point is 01:13:22 Out of control Look at Michael G. Wilson all the way back there. Who do you think those two people are? The girls? Yeah, one's like his assistant. The other one is... I think they're Montenegro local hires. I gotcha.
Starting point is 01:13:34 I gotcha. Then I wonder what he has to say to them, really. I know. They probably don't mean to speak English. Polyseha. Polizia. Polizia. Polizia.
Starting point is 01:13:56 Look how he shaves his mustache down to the corner of his mouth so only a sliver can drip over the edge. drip over the edge. I love that this, I love Michael D. Wells that is in this sort of gold chain outside of his black polo that's buttoned all the way up. I know.
Starting point is 01:14:26 I think this summer I'm going to read the books again. It's just such good summertime reading. Just catch a little sun, drink a little drink, read a little read. I mean, look, talk about someone who is beautiful with with the appearance of no makeup.
Starting point is 01:14:48 Like movie no makeup. Yeah. Yeah, she almost looks better here. I think she does. Because they give her pretty heavy makeup. That smile faded real fast. She's just... She started thinking about her boyfriend.
Starting point is 01:15:00 It's stunning looking. Look at that hanger, too. So would she do all... Five-nine 180? Would she do all this, too? The sizing up. Um, no, but quite frankly, she nailed it. He's so rough to be in a tux.
Starting point is 01:15:38 It's almost discordant or something, but I love it. Do you think there's a distinct point of them falling in love? Yeah, isn't it? Post-Machette murder? It's when he goes in the shower, I think. Interesting. And then compounded by the, win and then the saving.
Starting point is 01:16:13 I don't know. Yeah, maybe there isn't an exact moment. Salam privy. Salam privy. Wee. That was that guy's line. It got cut. Wee, we, way.
Starting point is 01:16:29 This is a set. It's Bond. I clearly have said it a couple times while I've been here. Nice to meet you, Lechief. That's what I would have said. It would have been great. There's my boy.
Starting point is 01:16:48 Now watch this. For him being in love with Daniel Craig, that's the character that he said he was playing. Look, I think we talked about that sort of, madamoo, I think we talked about that before you ever had him on. I don't remember that. We mentioned the way he looks longingly at Bond before you had him on, which to me tells us that his acting is fucking great. Yeah. again why does the sheaf not have eyebrows yes hi i also know your real name how does swiss banker know his name the cover's totally blown yeah really it seems weird t i t t i does not put in vesper oh he
Starting point is 01:17:52 really does have no eyebrows it's like uh whoope goldberg ask but whoope it works on i guess it works on muby goldberg doesn't have eyebrows no it's fascinating hmm That guy signed of the cross there. Who busts first? Do they show it? Probably. I just don't remember. Oh, I got a deck of those cards straight from Carlos Leal himself.
Starting point is 01:18:25 Nine-seated. Now, is that a Lechief or is that a Mickleson? The eyebrows? Yeah. I'm going to look it up. Yeah, why not? It's a Mickleson. Hmm.
Starting point is 01:18:58 You know, Craig has such light eyebrows, too. It doesn't really read as heavy eyebrows. Oh, there they are. Honestly. Get close. He needed that shot. How great would have been to be one of the extras in this, like one of the players? Honestly, I think it would have been terrible.
Starting point is 01:19:23 Oh, I think it would have been wonderful. That smile when that nine came on the turn. Does he have pocket knives? Now, she does come in here the way she's not supposed to. And you always think that's just she wants to fuck with. him, but it may be because she wants to throw him. Yeah. See, now there is some evidence that she's doing her job.
Starting point is 01:19:49 She's doing her job for Le Chief. Yeah. Le Chifra. Lee Chifra. Hi, I'm Lee Chifra. I'm a Texas. I killed all the runs. No, that was the people behind me when I was playing Casino Royale slot machine.
Starting point is 01:20:05 Two guys probably in their 50s from... Who's Lee Chiffers? He's like, no, I actually. That's the chief. He's, uh, that's French for the chief. He's got, his eyes, his, his, his tears broken. His tears broke. He's got broke tears.
Starting point is 01:20:25 James Bond done broke his tears. I mean, look, straight flush, four of a kind. It's probably one of those crazinesses. Look at the chiefs. Maybe it's just boat over boat. Tucks, I love it. Tehander, daisy. She also.
Starting point is 01:20:41 and a call rats on his tell yeah oh i'm not saying she's not doing she's i'm not saying she's not there to do her job yeah he stayed in that long he caught that on the fucking river do you see carlos le out looking at bond he caught that on the river caught it on the river bond's reed was correct bonn's reed was correct get this man whatever he wants put it on my tab This guy's got a Donald Pleasance vibe about him, too. How was he with the landscaping? I love that. I love this.
Starting point is 01:21:31 I wish I was one of the extras that got the line. I know. Keep the fruit. Keep the fruit. Keep the fruit. Why is the sheaf's so mad at this? Because he just wants hands. He wants fucking, he wants action.
Starting point is 01:21:49 What do you think is asthma? Stress asthma? Must be. I never noticed this bearded guy next to the dealer over here before. That's Bill, Bill Henson. Sock puppets are his thing. Smoky eyes. She did that herself in that mirror, that magnifying mirror that was to the right.
Starting point is 01:22:17 Look at the texture on that tux shirt. It's a good-looking shirt. Yeah. What do you call it? It has a name, like Crape or... Poplar? Waffle. I forget what that texture's called.
Starting point is 01:22:35 So he just came over with that on the spot there. That's what he was craving. Yeah, he was craving rice. Really, he just wanted rice but didn't want the carbs. that's why they shook it over rice for him doesn't he say doesn't he say rice no he says ice of course he says ice why would I think he said rice
Starting point is 01:22:54 just now I thought you meant like the vodka fermented from rice or something shaking over rice that's what I thought he just said someone who knows that that's not what he said here's how that's shaking over rice it's lukewarm and kind of gooey High rice.
Starting point is 01:23:15 Oh, yeah. Who gets the button? Pick a high card. So how did he get the role? Did he audition in the States? He auditioned, but he auditioned with Le Schiff's part, I guess. And then his agent called and said, you got the part. And so for a few days, he thought he was Lechief.
Starting point is 01:23:37 Oh, my God. And he showed up or they let him know that he was going to be the dealer. And then he was cast as the dealer, but he apparently wasn't. proficient enough and Michael G. Wilson personally shifted him out of that role but then they invented this tournament director role to keep him in. Oh my God. Which is very nice, I think. Because I think the dealer isn't an actor, so they kind of gave him some of the lines. Well, it makes sense that there would be this tournament director. Yeah. You've lost me completely. I don't, I'm really casual right now. I don't care what the stakes are on the table or in my life.
Starting point is 01:24:13 There's this interesting scene that they don't use in this in the book where, one of Leshief's henchman puts a cane to Bond's back and it has a gun in it and he's going to kill him right there if he doesn't throw the game or something and I got to read that again it's funny I think I've read it three times and I barely remember it and there's a whole bomb sequence on the streets. I don't know why that was funny to me. Mickelson's reaction like the yelp he let out I thought was very funny. This is the one. There she is again. This is a gun. She doesn't, she can't sense that's a gun.
Starting point is 01:24:58 I feel like it's in one of those bubble wrapped guys. Well, yeah, I actually thought that. That's what I'm here playing poker for. We get the money back. I just noticed those brass corner lamps. I literally just noticed those as well. Really coming through in standard deaf. When you're watching high deaf, you don't see the brass lamps.
Starting point is 01:25:26 This is high deaf now. Oh, thank God. I'm like half worried this thing's going to buff. for again and we're going to lose Hey, sink. No sense in half worrying. That's right. Brings a machete like a ceremonial machete.
Starting point is 01:25:45 Well, I mean, look, you gotta get through brush. You gotta get through brush. Mm-hmm. Easlars. I mean, I'd take, I take it that, uh, oh, I love the whole like, you're with a bad person when he goes to cut her arm off and he doesn't say anything. Yeah. I like that move.
Starting point is 01:26:16 But she stays with him. Look at that guy's loving. it. The elevator. Thank God the elevator had left already because she never would have been able to help him. You should get a new boyfriend.
Starting point is 01:26:41 Islos. Hello. You'll make out next to this room. Well, me, do you know where the Isloss is? Yeah, law. I'm looking for a machete cleaner. God, he saw the thing in his ear. And that was enough.
Starting point is 01:26:57 What if he was just a... news correspondent making out with a woman. He's going to kill him? This fight is so good. I'll shut up. I got to go back on air in 10 seconds here. I just threw to the weather, guys. Oof.
Starting point is 01:27:17 I don't know. Look, it is a great fight. That's true. So good. A little rare moments of slow motion in a Bond film, too. Oh, I don't, did I already miss it? I don't think so. I think it's coming up right there.
Starting point is 01:27:33 You got that, you got a lazy bee and honor majesty's. Some under cranking. There's something else. I like how that machete can cut through anything but cloth wrapped around a wrist. A forearm, rather. I guess he's bleeding. He's got to call him and go, you're not going to believe this. So I'm up there.
Starting point is 01:28:00 Also, here's a question for you, Matt Goreley. Yes, Matt Myra. What was his plan? Say this guy had not arrived to try and find his money. um what was james bond's plan going up to lachief with a gun just to kill the sheaf or take him in or what um what do you mean he's going up to his gun and then goes up to the fourth floor to go to lesheaf's no i think he's going back to his room with vests they're going back to their room no because he why would she be with him he puts in the tracker yeah he goes up to the fourth floor because he now sees that he's on the fourth floor he gets his
Starting point is 01:28:43 gun from the desk and is going up to Le Schiff's room. I guess maybe just to keep tabs on? But what, I guess my question is, so he shows up with a gun or is he just taking the gun just to have? Probably just to have.
Starting point is 01:28:59 Okay. I'll allow it, sort of. Thank you. I only said sort of. Sort of, thank you. Is he crying? What's happening? All of it. He's washing his face with bloody water. He cleaned up nice. Now, that's so much liquor.
Starting point is 01:29:19 That's got a effect here. That's incredible. That is an incredible amount of scotch to take it once. I guess if you're hurting, though, you got to dull the pain. Look at him. I know, I know. The red blood is like, hey, we're going to really make your eyes pop. But that thing where he's just looking at himself like, get your head in the game, do this.
Starting point is 01:29:41 Oh, I thought he was saying, you look great today, Matt. Well, we're saying that. Do you think that it was also Michael G. Wilson's, what you would call it, choice to let the guy who is dealing wear a vest that has poker cards on it? That always struck me as a little tacky for this place. I agree. Yeah, what's the story there? It could just be like this guy is a professional dealer who just loves, he has a lust for life and cards. Like how Neil DeGrasse always wears a space vest or tie, yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:15 Yeah, or George Pinocchio where it's a damn vest that his wife. makes. That's a local news reference. Sorry. Oh, no. She dropped the wine. She must be real sad. Can you tell me where is, Las is? Hello. I'm looking for new glass. Yeah, go down, corner, go out the Islas place.
Starting point is 01:30:40 Get new glass? Islas place quite take elevator instead? Okay. Can I join you in your cold dressed shower please? Hello.
Starting point is 01:30:53 I would like to make clean, yes? We make clean now. This theme is so good. This is the overdubbed of the whatever we were just doing. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:31:11 It would be very funny to me if there was a country that predominantly spoke English but had an accent. And they overdubbed every movie with that exit. See if you can see the transition. Watch the water in the foreground. There it was.
Starting point is 01:31:27 Well, they're in the glass, right? So they had just, that was just a rack focus, right? No. Very cool. Because he licks every finger. I know I've said this every time we cover this movie, but he licked every finger and they thought it was too creepy. So they cut from the first to the last finger and there's a little like CG blend.
Starting point is 01:31:44 Oh, I didn't see that. We do that kind of thing actually on our show. What do you mean? On the Goldbergs. We'll morph. We'll cut things and morph. Without. So the audience wouldn't know?
Starting point is 01:31:55 Yeah. Wow. Sometimes we'll speed performances up even. Really? Yep. Take out pauses. Oh, my God. It's the problem when you have a time crunch, you know, 22 and a half minutes.
Starting point is 01:32:11 I love this outfit. What would you call this? Manner casual. Sweater sheik. This is basically what I wake up, I put a sweater like this on. Thank God you sleeping. I can finally masturbate. Matt. What? That's what Daniel Craig's James Bond was saying.
Starting point is 01:32:47 Ring ring, ring. Poor guy. They're laughing. That guy's life is ruined. Howful. Look at Mathis's hair. I love it. It's like blonde and gray, but not in the same places. He just got blonde bangs. Do you think it's like a highlight situation? Like he went to a... I doubt it because it'd be so weird. choose to do that.
Starting point is 01:33:20 Could be one of those cool hair birth marks, which I like. Oh, yeah. Like a bride of Frankenstein. Yeah. Or rogue. Rogue. John Henson, former host of Tuxo. From Dracula.
Starting point is 01:33:36 Bearded guy busted. He was the first one out. Oh, look at that. That's why you don't. And someone next to, um, no, Jeffrey Wright is missing, right? That's the person. He was on the dealer's left. He was C position one.
Starting point is 01:33:49 I mean right there. There's an empty chair there. Oh, right. Oh, oh, oh, I see. Someone else is going. Yeah, someone else is busted. Who is that? The other woman?
Starting point is 01:33:57 I'm trying to remember. No, the other woman is on. Oh, yeah, she's right there. No, that's just the angle where, wait, where's, who's next to the dealer? Someone is. My brain is confused right now. Bond is next to the dealer and then that guy that, oh, no.
Starting point is 01:34:13 No network detected. Guys, we might have to pause this. No, we're going to see. Come on, baby. Hold together. Stay on target. Stay on target. There's two, many of them.
Starting point is 01:34:28 He's got the sniffles. So now he thinks he's bluffing. He's got the towels. Oh, wait, Bonn says that in the movie, that he totally had him, and he just got lucky on the river. I love this Mathis explanation. I'm here for the audience.
Starting point is 01:34:48 He's going to have to go all in. All in. That means all his chips in. I asked Carlos Dale about that little bell next to him. Mm-hmm. He wanted it. Did he really? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:35:05 Could they get the bell? Oh, there it is, to the far right of the screen. Oh, yeah. He's bummed. He's still watching. He's on the rail. You know you're an extra and you're like, they choose you to go out first. You're bummed.
Starting point is 01:35:21 Also, you don't get to sit down during these long takes. Well, but he's got a spot on the rail, which is nice. So, Lechief, does Lechief have the nuts here? What's that mean? Uh, the best possible hand with those combination of cards available. I don't know. I'm trying to remember. Bonn is going to have to go O'i.
Starting point is 01:35:48 O'i. O'i. Uh, uh, uh. Five on that tausum. The vest, by the way, looks like he's been wearing it for 20 years. I'm sure he has. He's also a magician. I mean, it's one...
Starting point is 01:36:09 Wait, so is that the same Madame Wu that was in the... Yes, it is? Are you sure? No, no, I'm not. Now, I find that when I'm in a high-stakes poker tournament like this, Matt, you know, $10 million buying and such with a full house, I don't have a problem going all in. Really? I'd be delighted right now. I would have a huge problem.
Starting point is 01:36:31 I see the Jack. I'd be like, oh, buddy, I have a bigger full house than you. I don't know. Oops. I can't believe he did this. Mathis is not happy about it. So cool. Cool.
Starting point is 01:36:57 There we go. They're so cool, calm and collected. Jim Henson, uh, Jim Henson's, uh, brother is still back there on the rail. Yeah. I think he, don't want to be he stays the entire time. I bet he does. He's got, he's got to see who's, who he's really losing to. I don't think they'd leave those chips just sitting there like that.
Starting point is 01:37:19 Chip in a chair. That's all you need, man. Two bits. Look at those windows. Those would be great for Craig Rowan's house. I know. Who else could have those? Carl Reiner.
Starting point is 01:37:40 Chris Rousseau. You came up with those pretty quickly. Craig Robinson. Jeez, yeah. The Casino Royale. Carrison Roared. Kark. Rammell.
Starting point is 01:37:55 Crammes Ronde. Now, we've got the subtitles on because... Ligo, my ego. We won't. get into it, but we had to stop and start. You won't know it because we're timed up, hopefully. But I think we're going to catch some things in here differently. Like when he shakes it over rice.
Starting point is 01:38:16 Yeah. Well, I never knew he was saying skewered one sympathizes in that train sequence until I read the... Oh, really? Yeah, I thought he was saying unsympathizers. Like calling the lambs unsympathizers for some reason. Wow. The lambs really don't have our plight. as their top concern.
Starting point is 01:38:37 I love that some of the poker people are out there. Just they can't get enough action in that $10 million buy-in. They're out there playing Baccarat. Yeah. And Blackjack. This is another place where this movie really got me. I think that he was a little rude to that gentleman. And he's just going to kill him.
Starting point is 01:38:56 Look at a good time hit man. Yeah. I'm having fun. This is fun. He never lets me walk through people in public with him. I'm always in the shadows. He just sees him and he's, he could have taken a butter knife or a steak knife.
Starting point is 01:39:09 He took the steak knife. Now that's how you know he's a trained assassin. Yeah, because a lot of people would pick up the fork on the right. Yeah. Because it starts with the, yeah, you should have introduced yourself a long time ago, Mr. Lighter. With these subtitles on, it's harder to talk. It's not harder.
Starting point is 01:39:40 It's more difficult. What? Look, I'm bleeding chips. it also makes me want to fill in all their dialogue. Sure. That's what people... I'll stick you. I'm saying, I'll keep you the money to keep you going.
Starting point is 01:39:54 Just one thing. If you pull it off, the CIA, bring him in. Look at Bond's little smile. Look how he leans in when he says, does it look like we need the money? And I love the... I love Jeffrey Wright. He's...
Starting point is 01:40:11 We haven't said enough about... He's the greatest Felix. He's so like, oh, wait, what? What the what? The casting in this movie is so good. What if, what if, you know, because he knows that Vesper's not giving him money. I think he was just looking at him more like, wow, I didn't know secret agents were worth that much. And now he's thinking, am I in the wrong business?
Starting point is 01:40:38 Or the wrong country. So who's no longer with us than in this game? It's literally just the, it's just the bearded guy. The game is still full. Wow. Boy, that guy must have really sucked. Does she know, does that lady know which one to give to James Bond? Oh, he ordered the one, he ordered the lemon peel. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:41:05 So smart. See, that's another thing. They introduced this thing, and it also becomes a plot point. That's just, you know, good writing. She's pissed right now, and it's not because he's being such a brash asshole. It's because he's getting poison. And no, she's going to lose her boyfriend Yusuf. her boyfriend was formerly cat stevens this guy's best i can't get enough of it
Starting point is 01:41:32 this guy's poison james had enough of it he starts sweating right away he's realizing it's from the well and it's not the vodka he wanted the in a well well well yeah the well look how concerned carlos is i mean jeffrey's like i just give him ten million dollars so he could sweat it out who's this dude
Starting point is 01:42:01 That guy is great. This looks like the same bathroom and the same camera. As the, as the fight, but it is not. It does feel like they're doing a kind of callback with it, though. Oh, interesting. I think we talked about that once.
Starting point is 01:42:13 Yeah, who knows? I talked about it so many times. Who can be sure? He either kills or gets killed in a bathroom. This should have been the poster. This. I love the fact that he is getting hit left and right. No one cares.
Starting point is 01:42:32 Yeah. touch that door knob, that door handle and it just comes out. Just to do a sink check in case we're anywhere off, he's right now just opened the glove compartment and he pulled out the thing and he's sticking in the phone and pressing the phone.
Starting point is 01:42:50 And shot in the arm. Now all the doctors. I love it. I love all the doctors on standby. There's someone out there with a broken neck behind him. She was in extras. I loved extras. Bond's been poison.
Starting point is 01:43:05 It's been pretty cool. Come watch. She's just got a low ball of scotch there. I love that. And then this poor guy died, the one talking. Oh, no. I love the MI6 doctor staff. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:43:19 It's so cool. Look at that thing. I thought he had another... Nintendo, though. Well, it's made to be simple. Yeah. You know? He's too sweaty.
Starting point is 01:43:30 He can't attach the... I know. How does that work? A good 3M. bonding. Yeah. Whoa, bonding. The wire being disconnected.
Starting point is 01:43:44 It's such a, it's such a wamp-womp moment. Lytocane. One has hurt. No, no, Matt. Stop reading. I can't have, but. Combip pen. Combip pen.
Starting point is 01:44:00 That should have been epipen. I guess it does more than one. I love. This whole scene is great. They could have. just done this and it would have been exciting enough. This movie always goes one step above. The, uh, oh, does he give it a little smile? No, he doesn't. That's it. Bond's dead. That's the end. Reboot. We've got to do a new reboot. Back to
Starting point is 01:44:33 Brosnan. In many ways, I think actually he did die here and the rest of this is a dream. Interesting theory. Thank you. Thank you. So she cares enough to save him. I mean, this could fix it all if she didn't save him. That's so true. She's not a monster. She's falling for him. It's like with Christopher and the Sopranos, but the opposite. Right.
Starting point is 01:44:57 It's been a while. It's okay. It's a great, great show. You all right? You okay? I love how concerned he is for her now. It's not even that he's so concerned for her. He's just never thinks about his own health.
Starting point is 01:45:15 You know, like, he never thinks in many many ways that is what makes him James Bond yeah up to it including his erratic be drinking and I love that he's got a blind in there oh man Bond Felix just threw his last chip in there he's up against Ace Queen
Starting point is 01:45:38 oh see I'd like a pre-flop all in just so I get a little more drama see with Felix going out too. It's a nice because he thinks he's done and then Bond comes back. So he's just hoping Bond died and will blind out. Look at that look on Leshief's face. He's probably, do you think right now he's mad at his girlfriend for not poisoning him right? Probably. But that's the way you do one-liners too. Yes, that was a good one-liner. He does it to needle Leshief not to do it as a funny thing for the audience,
Starting point is 01:46:14 you know? I love that these guys. guys are still playing. You got Carrie Fuganawa, new director, and the Asian guy. Monsia bond. Plenty for me in the put already. Now I'm doing it. Oh, man. You should just turn to camera when he does the audience. He really should. Hi. Hi. If you're confused, I'm Mathis. Here's what's happening. I'm your. There could be a straight flush out here as well as a Ace high flush with a king. He's shoving it all in his diamond pattern.
Starting point is 01:46:53 Yeah. Doesn't he count in? Like the guy next to him, right? Doesn't he raise his hand for $5 million? There it is. All in for less. That guy's out. The guy behind him there.
Starting point is 01:47:06 Yeah. This, by the way, is the most ludicrous scenario of chips in the history of chips. Why? just because of the fact that they all caught a piece of this board. Oh, and that they all come in one. And that they all come in one worse than the other. Yeah, yeah. And they show it in that order.
Starting point is 01:47:28 I want to know what happened to Le Scheeves' eye. Wasn't it a laser accident with a shark? Well, doesn't he say a derangement of the tearduct? He doesn't say about it being anything from birth. Like something clearly happened to him. Or he's tried to. fix it so many times. He's tried to fix the derangement.
Starting point is 01:47:50 See, Bond right now, by the way, he got broken too, has the nuts. He knows. So the casual way he throws it in is delightful to me. And because he raised, now Bond gets to show his cards last. I love the casual, the previous hand of the casual way, which, why does he show this? See, now, I think he, I think he, he must think Bonn's bluffing. He must.
Starting point is 01:48:28 Those two guys, and that's the worst feeling in the world, by the way. When you go all in and then everyone behind you goes all in, it's like, oh, I'm not in good shape. Yeah, I mean, what are the odds if you're one of four people going all in? Look, you've asked me many times, Matt. Never to tell you this. Never tell me them. I don't care what I say, no matter how much I beg. open the goddamn door kick your rotten heads in don't open this door like look look at that ace high flush
Starting point is 01:48:58 pretty dominant hand but you know a full house would be needed oh my god a full house he's got it he's one look of the look on his face it's full of aces oh but if you had like aces full of something else on that board that'd be the only hand that might be slightly better than that it's confusing to say aides full of aces it should be aces full of eights Aces full of eights. Because there's more eights than Aces. Right. I guess. That's what I feel like it should be.
Starting point is 01:49:26 Hi, Marty. Just watching some Casino Royale. Yep, we're watching it silently and reading it and talking about it on a podcast. Because the internet's being crappy, so we had to stop for a while. And we went with a DVD. All right. Anything you want to say about it? I got it. Oh, oh, someone's coming from the park.
Starting point is 01:49:57 That's that Saturday wine. She was at a bridal shower. Was it lovely? Oh, by the way, Bond won. Yes, he won with a straight flush. Jeffrey Wright's very excited. And they worked out the deal. That's great.
Starting point is 01:50:20 Everything would go to plan, if not for one horrible person. There she is. Oh, no. The way she slides in in her black dress, dressed like death. Yeah. Hang in there, man. You got it. It's only two more endings.
Starting point is 01:50:39 This is exactly how I imagine it in the book. With no one else in the restaurant? Just, yeah, the way it looks, everything. He's having another Vesper. She's on her cell phone. That is the strangest cell phone, like an iPod. They're going to extract him before dawn. Why wait till dawn?
Starting point is 01:51:07 You know, because it's easier to extract, see what you're extracting. Although I guess it's probably almost already dawn. What time do you put it at? What time is this meal happening? 2 a.m., 3 a.m.? I think it's 4.15. I think the reason there's no one else in this place is they opened it up for him as the big winner. Yes, I agree.
Starting point is 01:51:29 Do you think they called the chef up and he was like, come on, I just worked 12 hours. What are you doing? to me. Yeah. This guy just won $500 million. Oh, I'll be right there. She does a good job of acting like she doesn't know, but she doesn't know what he's talking about, but she clearly does. I know. That's the annoying part about this. She's so deceitful. And makes Bond fall in love with her. Does he fall in love with a real Vesper? Or the mystery. That's exactly the question. The promise of a Vesper. I feel like that that Algerian love not is such a statement that I don't know that she would have worn it each night.
Starting point is 01:52:09 Huh. Although you could see where she's like, I'm not taking this off till Yusuf is safe. Yeah, I get that, but also like, it's a little over the top to wear every single night. It's not like it's a ring. What is PDA? Oh, that's a personal digital assistant.
Starting point is 01:52:38 Come on in, and Marty's here. Uh-oh. Wine drunk Marty. Join in the podcast. What I miss? Oh, yeah. Wait, where's the sound? You smell like rosé.
Starting point is 01:52:52 Oh, no. Oh, this is my favorite part of the whole movie when he has a steak in a martini. That's part of the entire movie. Every time I watch an action movie, I'm just waiting for the bit where they relax. Yeah, you want that exhale. But the problem with this movie is it has too many exhales. What were we watching recently where you're like, oh, you just wanted to see John Snow relax. It was John Wick.
Starting point is 01:53:15 No, John Snow. Game of Thrones. Oh, I would, I pay hundreds of dollars to watch like a three-hour movie where John Stone just like, gets a warm bath. Yeah. Yeah. But it was John Wick too that I was like. John Wick, the sequel or John Wick also? I don't know. The second one. That's too complicated. I just need to see him take a break. Now, this is, this is the car stunt that set the world record. Yeah, I watched the special in this. So it a little ramp and it wouldn't roll because the Aston Martin is so good at not
Starting point is 01:53:51 rolling. So they had to put a cannon in it that launches it and then it did seven rolls, the Guinness Book World Record. And was it you that was saying Aston Martin was pretty pissed about this? I wasn't. They didn't have many of these, by the way. This was a prototype. They were pissed because they don't want
Starting point is 01:54:07 their car to be seen as a car that rolls seven times. Yeah. What do you think about that? You seem to be upset. It wasn't because Bonds driving it that it rolls out. No other person would have been able to avoid Vesper on the road. That's so true. That's right.
Starting point is 01:54:20 No other car on the planet could have turned away from Vesper. That thinks the precision of the Aston Martin. Just said men panting. Well, if you're going to subtitle it, why not have it say that? It should be in every scene. That's right. Oh, Hensk guy's here. So why did they continue to lie about Mathis to him here?
Starting point is 01:54:41 Good question. Also, how do they know about that? Vesper? Because Vesper would have told them. But that they put it in his forearm? Probably that's protocol. Well, maybe. They should have, uh, yeah, why do they keep the, the charade up? Yeah, why?
Starting point is 01:55:01 Mathis. Well, because they're going to use Vesper to get him to confess later. Because they're pretending to beat her in the other room. Right. If they would have, yeah, that's right. If they would have said it was Vesper, he wouldn't have cared if they killed Vesper. Right. That's so, so correct. Nice watch, Matt. yeah now this i assume is um near where he puts his yacht at night this is some sort of a boat
Starting point is 01:55:30 house on a river do you think they rent this torture boat or just i think they probably it's in a shell shell corp situation right where uh it's paid for by lachief ink this is probably the headquarters of the shell corporation this is literally i think just drop them i never noticed that this is quantum this is quantum's um party boat yeah that's right they have one deck that is that looks like a torture room the rest of it's the fanciest place you've ever seen the lito deck meaning on the lito deck where none of our chairs have seats that you listeners weren't expecting this exciting drop in today i've had three glasses of rosé oh boy you can hang free on the lito deck Well, you know what this is?
Starting point is 01:56:18 This is really just an aperitif to the Bond cocktail party episodes that have come out prior to this. So if you haven't heard those, go back and get yourself a drink and enjoy. Well, you'll hear us all on our versions of Rose. Oh, no. That's three weeks in a row of one of the three of us being drunk on this podcast. Oh, boy. Oh, God, look at that body. I mean.
Starting point is 01:56:40 Talking about mine. Do we know what he's done to train for this? Like, what is his regime? I think he was like, really. chicken breasts a good question. It's a good question. All day long. I bet he has like, it's just, yeah, it's probably broccoli and chicken constantly. But then he'd be too skinny. So he's got to like, it's like broccoli, chicken and probably supplements of protein. And supplements. And maybe like broccoli, chicken and like martinis. Martinis, maybe a muscle milk thrown in for good measure.
Starting point is 01:57:07 Yeah. I mean, does he, how do you look like that? I don't understand. I don't know. I think you just try real hard. Yeah, you have a major motion picture train you. I know. I know. But look at how he's got these like super muscular abs, but you can tell there's a little gut under there because it pushes out so much. Well, that's just like a man of a certain age is always going to have a little bit of a gut. Yeah. And it looks great. Look, I think that his body's fabulous in this picture. It couldn't be better.
Starting point is 01:57:35 I would kill for it. He could use a little more thigh work, though. Jeez. I mean, I think he just skipped the squats for, for, for, he just did chest and back so many times. But it's perfect for James Bond because James Bond. James Bond, like, doesn't do cardio, right? Right. Like, James Bond is, like, lifting weights and eating whatever he wants.
Starting point is 01:57:52 He's not doing, he's doing cardio in the way that he's, like, running and chasing people. But you're never going to catch a James Bond in a spin class. I get my cardio in on the streets. Yeah. You should never catch a James Bond in a spin class. Like, cardio is so undignified. He's just, he's just certain he's going to get his running in in Montenegro. That's why I don't do cardio. Well, you're why?
Starting point is 01:58:13 Frankly, it's beneath me. You're on my treadmill desk. That's so I can do it indoors. and no one will see me. Do you run on the treadmill? Occasionally. It doesn't really get to a run. Like the fastest it will go is like a jaunt.
Starting point is 01:58:26 A trot. I'd say it's a trot. Yeah, look, but if you're editing a podcast and trotting for the entire time, you're going to burn some cows. It helps. I've got a little hitch down there. Would you mind?
Starting point is 01:58:40 I like how Polite is about his private area. He says down there. This is one of the best scenes in me. mankind has ever made. Oh my God. It's just like, how could you endure it? I do like how Lechief does actually find it funny.
Starting point is 01:58:59 Yeah, and I feel like Bond is leaning into it because it hurts so bad. He's like, I might as well fucking just keep going with it. I might as well let this guy know how charming I can be. Well, it's like the one thing he can control. Do you guys think you could handle some torture? Of that nature?
Starting point is 01:59:15 Yeah. Not for any length of time. I don't think any human can ultimately withstand torture. I think it's kind of a television myth that there are people that can, like, not talk. I don't know. I think I could do it. That's the rosé talking. Just takes three glasses of roses.
Starting point is 01:59:32 I should have been at this bridal shower. How was it? That would be. It was great. We'd be kicked out of that bridle shower because our first question there would be like, ladies, how long could you be tortured? Yeah. Could you guys leave? Yeah, all right.
Starting point is 01:59:52 We host a podcast about James Bond. The big picture. The big picture. I love that line. But if I were on the other side of the door and you were like, I've got to get like whipped in the balls because Amanda's getting tortured, you'd be able to withstand it, right? I have no choice. Of course I would.
Starting point is 02:00:10 You'd have to do it. He could die. In fact, let's try it. All right. Amanda, get behind them. the door. Matt, I mean, need a big rope. Okay, you got it. I do believe I could leave my body in the same fashion where I like left my body and then I'd just be giggling. Leave your body for a giggle. Now, just good lighting here. Okay, this is my idea of Magic Mike. Like when I went for my
Starting point is 02:00:42 For my bachelor's party, I saw Magic Mike in Vegas, and I was hoping it was going to be something similar to this torture scene. What a disappointment it must have been instead of rain. It wasn't too far off. Did they work a chair into the bit? Oh, yeah. Is it clear when you're watching the scene that LeSheef is going to cut his balls and dick off and put them in his mouth? Yes, because he says I'm going to feed it. I'm going to head out now.
Starting point is 02:01:11 feed them to you what you got hungry oh I thought you said you were going to have some more wine we got to go to a movie later um look the movie should be over now no I like how they tried to figure out what he was saying
Starting point is 02:01:39 but they couldn't they couldn't nail it so they said indistinctly speaking yeah there she is blurry vesper A lot out of focus on this. No, my name's Bill. No, not him. That's not, that's not Vesper. Vesper is a good name, too.
Starting point is 02:02:06 Four. Just, I don't know. Ian Fleming really knew how to name the women, and I don't mean like Pussy Glouin and things like that, but like Vesper, Linde, Gala Brand, Tiffany Case, they're not all innuendo. They're just kind of interesting. heightened names.
Starting point is 02:02:24 Well, Tiffany case is just a pun. Yeah. But I don't think that's her real name in the movie, in the book. What else was there? Little of their solitaire, which is cool.
Starting point is 02:02:44 Why is Math as being administering his medication for him? I think it's whoever is visiting. Like, that's the rule of, if you want to stay a little past visiting hours, you have to make sure the meds are given. Yeah. That's part of the medical agreement.
Starting point is 02:03:00 Look at this crazy wheelchair he's in, too. It is a pretty great wheelchair. I was thinking about it. It looks like a dentist's chair. Yeah. Oh, no, not those two guys. Oh, that guy... Oh, wait, is that guy?
Starting point is 02:03:12 That's the main stunt guy. He's the one that does the crane jump. Oh. The Frazier Crane jump. I like how Bond has that wheelchair, but there was a guy in the background in a shitty regular wheelchair with an IV attached to it. And look at these Renaissance costume people.
Starting point is 02:03:31 There's a nun. I want Anakin and Padmay to walk by. They shot at the same sort of place. Their wedding. Did you get invited to their wedding? Anakin and Padmay, I actually had to miss it. I was off of the council. Me too.
Starting point is 02:03:49 I was in a nest of gun darks. Did they really? I mean, they didn't really invite anybody, but R2 and 3. No, they invited a ton of people no one could come. Oh, no. Because Anakin's such a whiner, nobody wanted to come. Yeah, only 3PO and R2 were the ones. They just didn't want to, well, you know, that droid's just following protocol at that point.
Starting point is 02:04:09 Yeah. They're like, oh, I can't go to that wedding. Can you imagine if something's wrong at the reception? Anakin will just never stop. He'll lightsaber all the catering staff. You telling me, you work for the government and this is where they send you if you get injured? No. I think this was all put up by the hotel as part of his.
Starting point is 02:04:34 Or Leshief. His winning package. Forgetting his package. I'd like to think that Mr. White set this up. He might have. In the special edition, they have Mr. White go back to his car. And Madeline Swan is in the car with him waiting for him because he's got to take her to school. Oh, that's right.
Starting point is 02:04:58 Yeah. How old would she be? Because Spectre came out in 2015. This is 206. So that's nine years. How old would you say? I'd say, um, Melis-A-Du is in that movie.
Starting point is 02:05:10 I'd say she's 27. You don't think she's like 30? Look, plus or minus three years. Maybe she's, maybe, let's say she's 31. So she's 25 around this time.
Starting point is 02:05:24 Oh, so she wouldn't be getting driven to school. But maybe she's with him. That'd be funny. That's part of the joy of a, of a, of a special edition, Matt.
Starting point is 02:05:34 Marty. How old would you say, The main girl is Inspector Leisedu in that movie. 23? 23. She's young. She's a doctor. She already went to medical school.
Starting point is 02:05:50 A doctor on TV. So she's 25. She's not on TV. I was a doctor by the time I was 25. So she could be 19. She's like, Jen, she's like. Interesting. Okay.
Starting point is 02:06:06 Okay. She's got to be like mid-20s. Okay. Well, that would put her around 20 here. So she's in Mr. White's car. She's a 20-year-old watching all this happen going, hey, that guy, he looks like trouble. I hope I never run into him again. And also when she shows up at the Lamerican in that secret room, she'd see the picture of Vesper and go, I remember her. Also, hey, you shot my dad in the knee. You know, he really was complaining every time it was cold after that. I just want to find out how old Leah Sidhu actually is. She was born.
Starting point is 02:06:51 Oh, she's 33. Now. Yeah. So she was 29. So she's 23 during this movie. Okay. So we were almost there. Now, these words he'll be saying to Madeline Swan in this new movie.
Starting point is 02:07:12 As they get married and Moneypenny cries. Look how beautiful that place is, though. and they have um they have ams ashes up at the up at the table could you pass me to pepper we need a rain machine just for this one shot thank you it was that it was martin campbell how long do you think it takes when you have your balls beaten by a giant rope
Starting point is 02:07:44 to be able to make love like this again or even want to yeah i think it takes 14 weeks. The thing is, though, when you're falling in love with someone for the first time, that's when you're like... Oh, yeah, it doesn't matter. Yeah, so the two mixture would be interesting. That's when there's no sleep required.
Starting point is 02:08:03 Yep. Now, this was shot in the Bahamas as well. I feel like the Bahamas were very useful to the production. They were. Now, here, Mathis? Does she have a little guilt? Yeah, I think so. I never thought about her having guilt.
Starting point is 02:08:28 I can't believe it. We're done. He did. This is what he becomes. a cold uh she's asking does everyone have a tell
Starting point is 02:08:43 because she's worried she has one yep and then yes they wear love knots for too long maybe her tell
Starting point is 02:08:54 is this current personality she's decided to have hmm he likes her because she doesn't have a tell what are some
Starting point is 02:09:08 honest jobs jams bond would be qualified for yeah uh like chief of security somewhere
Starting point is 02:09:14 oh okay or like head of the Secret Service or something. Well, that's essentially what he's doing. I was thinking, like, more like, uh, carpentry. Or private security. Yeah, I could see him kind of doing some really, like, uh, physical job. Ooh, you know what I could see him doing?
Starting point is 02:09:31 Um, leading hunting excursions. Oh, yeah. In the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, South Africa. Mm. And then he gets a couple of land rovers and starts a safari company. Scy Vika. It's a nice boat.
Starting point is 02:09:48 You've been to vint a vent. Um, no, but I've been to the Venetian, uh, in Las Vegas. I've been to Venice Southern California. Very much like this. Venice Beach. She still got that. What do you think came first, the name Venice Beach or the canals? Oh, good question.
Starting point is 02:10:07 Maybe they came at the same time. Do you think, uh, that is a, sometimes MI6 has a trouble, uh, downloading the, uh, JPEG for the logo? Yeah, I would hear today. MI6 confidential. That's a very terse email. If I were M, I'd read that and go, is someone hacking this?
Starting point is 02:10:29 What's going on here? I would call and go, so you just, you won $500 million and now you quit. Yeah, really. You know, that money's ours, right? That's all blood money from various criminal organizations. There he is.
Starting point is 02:10:45 That's the doctor of the German exhibit of body works. I love that they cast this guy. He's just such kind of little weasily dude. And then he disappeared. So was he a ghost? Did he really see him? The answer is yes, but that's okay. Now, these are a special edition sunglass by Persol
Starting point is 02:11:08 that were too small for my head. The only movie that had Persol's? I think the previous I think that was also his previous sunglasses, Pierce Brosnan-wise. A lot of the fashion and
Starting point is 02:11:27 placement brands were very much the same in this one from the Pierce-Brasnan era. And I don't know if that's because of the number of movies they struck deals for or what. But then the fashion stuff, all that stuff came, a lot
Starting point is 02:11:43 of it came from Craig. Can you explain this line to me, time enough to get over someone he asks and then she says to realize sometimes you can't you can forget the past i always thought she you can't forget the past well now matt that line makes a thousand times more sense to you up sure oh wow do you think that was it's the way she stresses it that she says time to realize you can forget the past do you think she really typed back in one month I don't know She probably actually typed
Starting point is 02:12:18 I'll be right down Could T9 text her It's Vesper Yeah Now that's a casual Longsleeve polo situation Does she? Em seems to say that she knows
Starting point is 02:12:31 She's going to her probable death here So she seems very happy Yep So she, I don't believe that's the case I think she thinks she's going to Give them the money, call it a day Yeah Yeah
Starting point is 02:12:42 But does she think she's to be able to come back to Bond after that? Hmm. Yes, I think she does think that. I don't know. Looking at her there, though, it looks like she's... Maybe. But also, like, here's my question, right?
Starting point is 02:12:57 At this point, you're with James Bond. You are in Venice. I know we've talked about this, but I'm going to talk about it again. It should end here. He's so happy. This should end here. I agree. This is ending number three.
Starting point is 02:13:11 She should say to him, Hey look, here's the deal. This is the situation. And now I'm with you and I love you. So let's figure this out. Yeah. Right. I know.
Starting point is 02:13:23 She definitely should be. Because if anyone could fix this, it'd be him. Or the mustached guy from the treasury. Yeah. Or Ronson. Or Mitchell. I do like this. This is like genuine paper pushing M.
Starting point is 02:13:43 Like that's what's happening right there. No, she's tipping him off. You think so? Yeah. Oh, I liked, I like to think of it as, um, no, she's, she knows this man's in the room. She knows that Vesper might be there with him. She's code, code speaking to him. Oh, Navajo code talking. Yeah. Definitely. Well, we, you know what want to? Yes, I've got a short, a lot of airline stock. I'll be right back. In that moment, he realizes he's been duped. Or he realizes he forgot his keys to the boat with Vesper. Who among us has not had the love of our life steal millions of dollars? Well, look, it's like Beauty and the Beast, a tale is old as time.
Starting point is 02:14:37 Casino Royale. It works for everything. Man, we could have been extras here. we could have an extras all over this place. That was cool. Matt, and we messed up by not sort of trying to form some sort of official relationship of Don Ja. I know, especially with this new one.
Starting point is 02:14:59 It's our last chance to get in on it. Craig, hey, Carrie Fukenaga, if you're listening, put us in as a couple of Stattler and Waldorf's up in a box in a theater or something, you know? Or I will gladly play the role of Guy James Bond pushes past. Yeah. No problem.
Starting point is 02:15:15 What if we were radio DJs? All in. Six million. I can say it. And I can count with five when I can go five. I love that shot. I want a print of that where she's just looking back in the alley. Your wish is my command.
Starting point is 02:15:28 I love that he's going to go kill her. He's not going to kill her. He's going to go put a bullet in her. He knows he's coming up against Gettler, the one sunglassed man. Well, are those pearlsons or whatever they're called? Pearlsons. What are they called? Pearl Vision.
Starting point is 02:15:41 What? The sunglasses. Persols. Are his half persols? I'll have to take a gander at them. Matt, do you notice that watch right there? The Omega beautiful. That's the watch that you're currently.
Starting point is 02:15:51 I know. I'm wearing it out tonight. Beautiful. To a movie. Yeah? Fancy. I'm going to show everybody how it's done. What do you see in Shazam?
Starting point is 02:16:01 Pet Cemetery. With an S? Yeah. Is that because a kid misspells it? I think so. Yeah. And also like, it did not, it never, I was sort of mandala affected into believing in my heart of hearts that it was never spelled
Starting point is 02:16:15 as an S when it was always spelled with an S. Yeah. Like only when these posters have come out, did I, did I think, oh my God. See, he says allow me, because he wants to kill her right there. Right. That's what he was going to do, I think. Well, why does he run with her? That guy?
Starting point is 02:16:34 Because that guy thinks he's his only, she's his only. Take it out of there? Yeah. Yeah. This is a studio right here. This little piazza. Mike Piazza. Yeah, he's a guess.
Starting point is 02:16:47 Obviously he was there. Yeah. He plays getler. The one-eyed catcher. There's a lot of one-eyed things going on in this movie. Well, I mean, don't you think that is a little weird that you've got Le Schief with a one-eye and Gettler? Like maybe in quantum, if you fail a mission, they poke an eye up. Or, let me ask this, is it possible that in Lechief's will, he left all of his sunglasses to Gettler?
Starting point is 02:17:18 And Gettler doesn't have an eye problem? No, he's just wearing it as a tribute to his friend. I leave all my earthly sunglasses to you, Gettler. And half my inhalers. My stainless steel inhalers, platinum. I leave my boat to my henchman, bald guy. Thank you. If you're watching this, I am dead.
Starting point is 02:17:48 This is my last Will and Testament titled Casino Royale. I made it a major motion picture. These shots are all different camera lenses than we were just looking at. I've decided. I don't know that for a fact. Man, I watched a whole half hour special on how they did this with the miniature. It's amazing. I mean, speaking of miniatures, did you know that in this film, Gettler is actually a small doll?
Starting point is 02:18:20 It's just stop motion animated. That makes a certain amount of sense. This thing, I say it's. miniature, but it's one third the size of the building, so it's still taller than a human because they got to get the scale big enough for water. Well, there's nothing many about that. Uh-uh. The only way you can
Starting point is 02:18:35 miniaturize water mad is sand. That's what they use. They use. Sade or salt. Like when the Ghostbusters are in town and the State Puff, he blows the thing up and then they just should sand up. Same thing with the waterfalls in Phantom Menace. It's unbelievable. Salt. They're still using minatures in that
Starting point is 02:18:51 movie? Yeah, lots. Wow. I know. That's the kind of fun. we could have with Star Warsing. That's right. Man, speaking of miniatures, I've been watching nothing but this YouTube channel of this Australian guy that just builds beautiful diaramas. It's like older railroad company or something.
Starting point is 02:19:10 It's amazing. It's like soothing. I am I'm actually surprised now that you say that, Matt, that you're not into like an end scale model where that's situation. I'm planning only that for my retirement because I used to be really
Starting point is 02:19:25 into models and miniatures when I was younger. I'm going to book in my life with that shit. For now, though, I watch YouTube videos of that and Marble Olympics. Wait, what? They're actual full Olympics for marbles. Oh, I had imagined that it was like people competing to carve the most beautiful statue out of marble. No, no, it's like marbles you'd buy at a supermarket.
Starting point is 02:19:48 Sure. All competing randomly. And it's done so professionally and without irony, even though it's, you know, very, funny and pleasant. I just love it. Now is the concept very similar to curling, you know, where you have to take the big marble? There's every different, there's all kinds of different ways to play marbles. Yeah, like slalom, hurdles, races, diving, underwater. It's, it's crazy. There's so many things. It's just gorgeous. Now, there should be really here. I think they should not have focused so much on killing James Bond here. Um, oh man, Lechieff's not going to be happy.
Starting point is 02:20:25 If he had an eye then, it's gone now. Wait, that should be okay. Well, they showed him in a dead eye. But they show that how long that nail is so that you know he's dead, I think. All right. But. But he had a really long eye. He should have, they should have,
Starting point is 02:20:39 he should have been going for the money. They shouldn't have been, like, still trying to kill James Bond. Right. They should have gotten the money and then killed James Bond. That's just my take on how to be a bad guy. Oh, man. She locks it. She locks it.
Starting point is 02:20:54 Oh. Because he still won. He wants to save her. He still hasn't given up on her. Even though previously he wanted to shoot her. Previously on Casino Royale. Previously on the last ending. We were happy once.
Starting point is 02:21:10 It was during the last ending. Oh, saltwater opening your eyes. James, you're just too much. Oh, this is salt water, huh? No, I don't know. I just imagine it is. I don't think it is. Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 02:21:24 It's a canal. Isn't aren't Canal saltwater? I mean, Naples and Venice are, like Venice Beach and Naples Long Beach. That's true. But like the canals in Lowell, Massachusetts, we're all fresh water. Oh. There's that thematic connection. And then that thing when she gets sucked into the back for some reason, someone turns on a vacuum?
Starting point is 02:21:50 She's pushing herself away from him. Oh, got it. So convincing the way she drowns. Exactly. Let me tell you, I've seen a lot of people drown from up close. you were actually a lot of people don't know this about you matt you were the basis for uh bay watch that's right it was uh originally based off my life story it was originally a drama all took place in long beach excuse me drama um so what was it just gonna look up having to do
Starting point is 02:22:22 with this movie oh venice canal water because if it was if it was uh salt water i would just be afraid of sharks right In the canal. Yeah. No. They'll swim with the locks, you know? But sodium levels, you got to watch out. They kind of cut to when he pulls her out.
Starting point is 02:22:51 So if it were real time, you'd think maybe he could save her. But I think it was a bit longer. Salt water from the Mediterranean Sea. Oh. A mixture of salt and fresh called brackish. Oh. Wow. Look how sad he is.
Starting point is 02:23:21 He's heartbroken. All you care about is water. Matt. Well, I just want to know what he was pulling out of her lungs. Nothing. Nothing. Not enough. Nothing but betrayal. Not enough. No, not from him. That's a deep canal. That whole house went down. Yeah. Also, Mr. White, though, Mr. White has a briefcase.
Starting point is 02:23:46 Yeah. He does seem curious about what's happening there. Yeah. Well, he's got the videotapes at home at Lamedican. La Madaghan. She had a boyfriend, French Algerian, who had some kind of love not. How did they find this out now? They got it all from Mathis. Probably. We should have picked up on it.
Starting point is 02:24:16 Oh, yeah. I guess they just never looked into her. Yeah. She knew you were you. I like that line. I do too, because it shows me that what we have here is a mutual understanding between an employer and an employee who love each other. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:24:44 She actually seems concerned, even though she's saying then you've learned your lesson, but she's like part of her sad that he's got to be this hard, I think. Yeah. And that she needs these men. She was hoping that she'd have one double O who wasn't broken inside. Or that like she maybe is kind of hoping that he would leave and save his soul. But she knows if he's going to be successful,
Starting point is 02:25:05 he's got to take a turn down the dark path. Mm-hmm. She made a deal to spare your life in exchange for the money. $45. That's all you cost. Maybe, I think she's maybe grander. She's speaking grander less not about that particular moment. Right.
Starting point is 02:25:32 The trail's gone cold unless you have her cell phone, which you just said. Mm-hmm. It's weird. She's in the Brosnan office. I always like to dissect what's in her little thing. She's got her little soft, soft caboodle. Yeah. Those are from the beach.
Starting point is 02:25:48 where her and James made love. And what book is that? That is a passport. No. There's like a little book of poetry there. Oh. Was that Homer's Iliad? It's Casino Royale.
Starting point is 02:26:01 Oh my God. Uh-oh, kitty's coming to lie in my lap. If I can tell. Matt's had three glasses of rosé. My wife and I, I almost said my wine and I, in fact, I did. My wife and I get sympathy drunk. like E.T. and Elliott. Oh.
Starting point is 02:26:21 Now, look, I think of all villains in all the movies, Mr. White's house is the dopest. You think that's his house or they're just meeting there? I always thought that was his house. I don't know about that. I know, because why would he... Honest to God, I always thought that was his house. No, because I think he's calling him to go, okay, like, I'm here.
Starting point is 02:26:42 No, I thought he was just taking a beat to go, I did a great job today. Quantum's going to promote me. Uh, let me look out here at this beautiful land I've purchased and, uh, now his phone's ringing. No, Bond set up. It's Madeline. No, it must be Madeline. Hey, Madeline.
Starting point is 02:26:57 Hello. See, I got to tell you, I always thought that was his house. Hmm. I never thought about it that way. Because he's crawling to somewhere, right? He must be crawling to the kitchen sink where he has that gun. Oh, right? And his daughter.
Starting point is 02:27:15 Yeah. This is how it happens. Blow felt comes right after this. Little per. kiddies on my lap best suit he's ever had just kidding it's a pretty good suit though it's crazy though that when he's in quantum he's not in that suit well that's the brioni tom ford of it all yep there it is we finally hear the james bomb oh so good waited two hours and 25 minutes to hear that so good well we down here at g section hope you had a just a real hoot and uh we got some uh special
Starting point is 02:27:55 if you want to come on down here and take some home to your loved ones to you and yours check it out oh yurgen tarik as soul shultz that was a pure pleasure even watching that movie when you can't hear it is good it's better than most movies um look i'm very delighted we did it assisted to mr wit who's mr whit i don't know mr whit mr Whit must be the right there. Mr. Craig's trainer. Did you see that? He had a credit. Oh, but there's also Alexander Witt. Oh, let's talk about Stephen Wee-Wee-Andrus.
Starting point is 02:28:32 Just a great guy. Just a great guy. Stephen Wee-Wee-Andrus. What do you want the credit to say? A wee-wee. What? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I do.
Starting point is 02:28:43 Yeah. Air Lyndonhurst, London. Well, thank you for joining us on this trip through our favorite movie of all time, ever made past, present and future. There's no room for any movie to ever be better. Nothing can come close. And that is Casino Royale. That finishes our first run bond commentary section.
Starting point is 02:29:04 It sure does. We're toying with the idea of coming back with the lasts of four of the bonds. Yeah, we'll see. We'll see what their tenure did to them. Yeah, but that, you know, we'll see. We're going to figure that out because at this point, we've still got seven episodes left for this season of James Bond. And I would like to do an audio commentary for The Rock.
Starting point is 02:29:24 I keep asking Matt about this. He keeps not answering. But I'm going to keep asking. Go ahead. Ask me. Matt, can we do an audio commentary for Sean Connery's The Rock? You still see? This is exactly what I get.
Starting point is 02:29:41 Maybe at San Francisco Sketch Fest we'll do The Rock. Okay. Because that's where they... That's a deal. That should be a live show. That's where they, you know, you know what I'm saying. That's where they have that car. chase. Oh, and it all takes place on the alcatraz, the rock. That all just occurred to me.
Starting point is 02:29:58 Wait, what? No, I thought it's because there's a lot of rock music in it. Well, uh, doesn't he collect vinyl? I think you're thinking of high fidelity. If you take a life, do you know what you'll give? I'll die you won't like what it is. When the storm arrives, would you be seen with me? I never knew these were the lyrics. By the merciless eyes of deceit, question mark? We can faintly hear her. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's pure, pur.
Starting point is 02:30:42 Pure, pure. I'm drunk on wine. Monty Norman, still getting a credit after all these years. Yeah. Still have to say the credits go by pretty quickly. Czech Republic, Bahamas, Venice, Lake Como. That's where that house is, huh? Yeah.
Starting point is 02:31:01 Can I rent that house? That'd be something. Special thanks to Sunspell. Look at all those ball and clothes by... Omega, smeared off, Sony Electronics, Ashton Martin Lagoda. Leganda, sorry, Lagonda. Purcells.
Starting point is 02:31:17 Purcell. One-eyed sunglasses. Verberter for Duprogg. This film is supported by an incentive provided by the government of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. We did it. Nice job, Matt.
Starting point is 02:31:30 Thank you. James Bonding will return.
