Starting point is 00:00:00 Come here, come here, little boy. He diddy was first. One day, you're throwing back pink lemonade's on Diddy's Yacht and Santropay. Ooh. Do you want to intro this bad boy or should this Alvin and the Chipmunk? I'll try. Okay. Alvin.
Starting point is 00:00:31 That's how it goes. If you forgot. Okay. Good Alvin noon. Good Alvin. evening, good alvinite. Alvinite. That's an element found.
Starting point is 00:00:47 That's what the Navi are like protecting. Alvinite is worth one million. Yeah, I never considered that like an avatar chipmunk. Yeah. You know? Or a venomized. Um. A venomized.
Starting point is 00:01:08 against Alvin. No, a venomized navi that's been controlled by Alvin in the pod. Oh shit, yeah. There's layers. Oh, yeah. So he's only venomized when in the pod. Yeah. And he gets out and he's like, why was I acting like that?
Starting point is 00:01:22 Yeah. Yeah, but he's addicted to the power, kind of. He becomes like a, like a maga rapper when he's a venomized navi in the pod. And he's like, why was I saying all that? One, two. Eat my fucking other nice poo. He's like, Dax. Yeah, fuck.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Yeah, that's clever shit, man. Mm. That's a new idea. Book unlocked. First page written. Mm. Closed. Dax and the Chipmunks.
Starting point is 00:01:55 Dax and the Chipmunks. Yeah. Drax. Yeah. From, um... You remember Drax? From, um, chipracked. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:07 Um, fuck. Holy shit, bro. Run it into the ground, I see. Make everything not funny. Yeah. Anyway, I think you got the intro wrong. I think it was good alvanized. Good.
Starting point is 00:02:22 Alvanized. Theodore riot or Simon carnage. Hmm. I feel like Theodore's more carnage. Sure? He eats. Just, yeah, I guess Carnage eats.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Yeah, I guess they all kind of eat. You can just feel like, venomize energy, like, yeah, yeah. You know, there's like a loud sound, so it's like rejecting. Oh, yeah. That's how,
Starting point is 00:02:53 Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It can be like a Sonic Underground type thing as well,
Starting point is 00:03:05 like Alvin with the electric guitar. Uh-huh. That's how he gets it. That's how he gets venom off him. Made of my mother would be venomized up. Yeah. Yeah. That's some clever shit, brother.
Starting point is 00:03:17 Yeah, that's fucking genius. Yeah. Oh. Well, um, I'm Alvin joined by, which shit might be. I am Theodore. I am Theodore. You've like finally, like... The thing is, I've been going back and forth,
Starting point is 00:03:31 because I don't know if James would be our, uh, Alvin. Why? because he's kind of the one like I feel like Simon actually kind of suits Simon does shout out to that fan art by the way Yeah beautiful beautiful shit I put a
Starting point is 00:03:52 Theodore Giff in the in the thread as a thank you Simon definitely works for James And it's not like I want to claim Alvin that badly Just to be clear He's kind of like he's kind of the cringiest one though So I feel like you, Alvin. Yeah, Alvin. No, Theodore's the cringiest.
Starting point is 00:04:09 No, he's the fan favorite. But I'm not the fan favorite. Who is James? Yeah, I feel like. But. But Theodore doesn't map onto James. No, not at all. James doesn't eat.
Starting point is 00:04:31 Yeah. Like Theodore. So I don't know. Yeah. but do I have Theodore vibes? No, you're definitely not Theodore. I'm like a hybridized version. Yeah, you're like a venomized hybrid of Simon and Alvin.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Maybe like if they got venomized, it would be like, like, all three of them, one venom. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. Kind of Power Ranger type B. Like a monstrosity thing. Yeah. Three heads kind of. mm yeah yeah like hydra type
Starting point is 00:05:07 hydraised hydraised venomised hydraised do you find it scary just how long we can just vamp on just fucking complete or shit the thing is I do it by myself now like when I'm at home like trying to sleep I'll just be like what can I venomise now like it's yeah
Starting point is 00:05:29 it's it's penetrated like everything I'll be watching movies movies and I'm like yeah I could work venom into this with not that much effort it's so close to it yeah it's so close to that venomized reality we're like uh have you seen that that that clip of the guy who's got like the gauntlet that it's it's like panace is gauntlet and it's got all the um green lantern rings it's got um it's got like the yugeo like yeah it's got the yuio thing with the you know the the like the head
Starting point is 00:06:05 head that the arms the legs that guy yeah yeah um it's got ben tens watch on blue beetle that's right yeah it's so fucking ohy yeah but it's exactly because i saw it again today and i was like this is exactly our type shit yeah you know or like have you seen that video of that guy doing my life is like a video game he's got the like full out fucking pit boy yeah yeah yeah And he's holding a switch. Yeah. But it's... It just really...
Starting point is 00:06:47 Also with Trump doing all the, like... Like, he did a green lantern post. Yeah, that's how you know that show is, like, clicking. Yeah, yeah. Isn't that weird? But yeah, they... It's like America is tapped into, like, crossovers. Yeah, because it's...
Starting point is 00:07:05 I saw another one which was like it was a Transformers one. Yes. Yeah. It was like four hours before his funeral. The guy voices Optimus Prime. Oh yeah, of course. Cullen. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Yeah. Yeah, they posted that. And then Hasbro or whoever owns the rights came out and they were like, this doesn't represent. The amount of like brands and companies at this point. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. It's fucking crazy.
Starting point is 00:07:36 It almost feels like it shouldn't be legal, really. It is blatant. How can it be illegal when they're the ones you make law? Yeah, exactly. Well, before we get too deep into the show, let me shout out the patrons over the channel media patron. They make the show an audio version possible. You get the raw unfiltered MP3 ad-free.
Starting point is 00:07:53 You can put on your RSS feed host of choice. That's not all there. You get your patron names right out on the first or second week of each month. We did that last week, so get those in ready for next month. Which after hours. it's a whole like other show like it's it's like a
Starting point is 00:08:09 theodore smog as board of like yeah it's like unlimited Alvin and the Chipmunks content although we haven't done a single JAA to do with them no maybe that's why I said like
Starting point is 00:08:22 you know yeah it's not literally that but you know if you view me as Theodore and Alex as Alvin yeah maybe we should watch one of the movies or something I could make a
Starting point is 00:08:34 We could do some breakdowns A fan cut or like a Yeah Like ending explained Chiprecked ending Yeah That's a good fucking idea Yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:08:42 Cut that out We'll do you Yeah Yeah I'm actually proud of the spies And disguised Explained Yeah
Starting point is 00:08:52 That's live actually on the channel Which is from checkout Yeah Check that out For a little Like a little chipmunk Nibble Yeah
Starting point is 00:09:02 Or store it in your cheek for later. Oh, they are clever for doing that, yeah. But there's a whole growing playlist
Starting point is 00:09:08 over there on the Patreon, 100 plus videos. We just recorded an hour long death stranding GAD, a generalised
Starting point is 00:09:18 awesome discussion, as well as there's like a half an hour convo on our thoughts on the GTA6 kind of buildup and what that might be reading Sonic EXE3,
Starting point is 00:09:30 the whole trilogy is on there. I'm talking about, you can see the second volume of absolute Batman there. Third's about to come out. I think some people already have it actually. Yeah, we talk about that in detail. A whole variety of stuff, a halo cutscenes react. That's gone live as well. All sorts of you can check out. The Lloyd cut. Lloyd hasn't stuck around like the chipmunks, but... No, he never was going to, let's be real. Yeah, yeah, you're right. And last but not least, the JAR Media Group chat, a hub where Jarlings can leave
Starting point is 00:10:01 suggestions for episodes for the question section towards the end and stuff for housekeeping and just chat about venom or whatever you do in there um you better be doing that in that like if not you're getting banned yeah and yeah let's shift into housekeeping then there is something that's i went to like check on the store the jar media store the wanker zad shit whatever yeah i went on the store and then it was like oh um on like the of September we're like shutting down oh okay it's like moving limited edition
Starting point is 00:10:37 now so I'll have to do something about that but I just got so much fucking shit to do so yeah get them while you can I guess or if it goes down that's why so right let's do some housekeeping then starting off with this one from Ash G
Starting point is 00:10:56 this year cannot escape the shadow of that month Yeah, we feel it too. Yeah, there is something about it. Is that if there was like a tier list of like certain characters stick around, you know, there's obviously P. Vecna from Stranger Things. Vecna's had surprising stopping power considering neither of us.
Starting point is 00:11:20 That was one I didn't expect because that was supposed to be a parody of P-month. Yeah, yeah. Became its own thing. And neither of us have ever watched a single, what's it called? Death Stranger. things. Yeah, Death Stranger Things. Yeah, I don't know anything about that, but Vakner clearly struck
Starting point is 00:11:37 a chord. Yeah. There is something, something was unlocked. It was like a Death Stranding kind of apocalyptic event to have corny. You know what I'd liken it to? Not that I've ever done heroin, but apparently
Starting point is 00:11:53 one of the issues with it outside of the obvious kind of difficulties is that, like, once you've experienced, once your brain is experience like euphoria on that level. It's like the new reference point. Yeah. And you'll never reach it again.
Starting point is 00:12:07 Yeah, exactly. Yeah. That first time. So that first time, Pawnee unlocks, it's like, oh my God. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:16 Yeah. You keep saying his full name, dude. Do I? Oh, sorry. Yeah. Yeah. I feel when are we allowed to say it here? Well, no, I'm fine with just P.
Starting point is 00:12:25 I like P. Yeah. Let's stick to that. When I remember. It's better than redacted. Yeah. Just pee. P is good, yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:34 Well, Musy says, Venomized Alvin, carnageized Theodore, and riotized Simon. And Connor Doolan says, Alvanized Paisley, Theodoreized Argi, Simonized Billy. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:50 I'm surprised Pays got Alvin. Who do you think we get at Argy? Alvinized Argi. Argi suits. Argy suits being Theodoreized, though. He's,
Starting point is 00:13:04 he's a bit, he's a bit like me. He's kind of like in between a couple of the chit of the books. Yeah. Yeah, he's like an amalgamation monk.
Starting point is 00:13:13 Who, who in the law is, in our law is the Alvin screamer? I don't know why his, like, his, like, law name is, but the,
Starting point is 00:13:21 yeah, um, there have been some really good memes recently in corporate, because the Alvin scream is just so kind of, uh, multi-purpose, you know?
Starting point is 00:13:30 Yeah, Yeah, yeah. Hmm. Darth Vader. Fuck yeah, well, 6, 4, 5 sup says getting gas lit the podcast. Seriously, though, I never know
Starting point is 00:13:46 when they are making shit up or not, nine out of ten. Why do we make sure up? Spies in disguise explained. What was made up? I mean, there were, like, theories in there. Like, breakdowns, for sure.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Yeah. But I like... Explanations. Yeah. And maybe some people interpret things differently and that's fine. Um, gosh, yeah, a lot of these are about Alvin. A Dish 3151 said, Are we seriously going to ignore the elephant in the room that alvanization has significant basis in the monk law?
Starting point is 00:14:23 Simon was quite actually alvanized in chip wrecked after hitting his head on a rock and becoming his alter ego, Simone. He gained Alvin's confidence charm. strength and heft while in this state but eventually had to let it go because it was too inconsistent to deploy thoughts interesting interesting interpretation some people will disagree right yeah my sort of align the themes might not match up with other theories so we'll have to put a pin in that yeah we'll have to um cross reference cross reference and bug nut replies that saying alvin and venom will have a beam clash battle over
Starting point is 00:15:05 control of Alvin's body to which result with the alvanization pushing back and beginning to alvanize previously venomized Simon creating a fourth faction in the secret wars yeah yeah sounds that all sounds good to me i'll give that the big green tick you give that an alvin alvanized thumbs up yeah um well henfrag says this episode brain rotting me so much but while listening to her i asked my dog if she wants to be blanketized and put a blanket over her without even thinking about how he phrased it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:40 I just had a non-sequit to thought. What's that? Thanos has the gauntlet. I am inevitable. Yeah. Doesn't work. Looks over. Oh, ow.
Starting point is 00:15:55 Yeah. Oh my God, yeah. Into musical number, because he can take the pout. All he dies. and then holding his corpse is Spider-Man going Alvin! Iron Man holding his corpse.
Starting point is 00:16:15 Oh yeah, yeah. But then, that's when you get the iconic Spider-Man coming out of the grave, Venomized. Oh, shit, yeah. Comic book cover, but it's Alvin Venomized.
Starting point is 00:16:28 When I'm making my coffee in the morning, I'm getting coffee-eyed. Caffeinized Alex. I'm just going to go with shower eyes a minute shower eyes yeah oh my god bro
Starting point is 00:16:45 it's going so deep I don't know if we can like Shade pizza says what if the Slitheen got venomized and then Slithinized Tony Blair and Doctor Who regenerates into a venom He regenerates into Alvin
Starting point is 00:17:01 8 people like that one Yeah I've never really thought about getting Doctor Who up in there, but like, why not? Dalek-Eised. Yeah, U-D-Eised. U-D-E-D-E-D-E. Oh, my God. That was the plot of the Slothine there, wasn't it?
Starting point is 00:17:21 Like, Slothine in Parliament. You know what? Like, the MPs were fucking Sladeen. When I first saw an advert for when they were reboot in Doctor Who, and I saw the Sladeen in an advert. Yeah, so I'm getting that on DVD. No, I actually got, like, fear response like actually
Starting point is 00:17:39 adrenaline. They are quite scary. They remind me of the babies from Brazil. Yeah. So I guess that's the kind of authentic doctor to experience that we were always told about. Do you remember the actual fucking scary one? The Doctor Who episode with Christopher Ackleston. The World War II one?
Starting point is 00:17:58 Yeah, the World War II gas mask child. I was in my heart. Yeah. I hear my fear. Yeah. That was creepy, yeah. That was actually a pretty decent episode from memory. That was a SCP-A-L-V-N.
Starting point is 00:18:14 Mm. I remember. Yeah. This I'm fucking, I'm honestly ashamed of from Ustomorse. You made the girl in red shinless list joke last year with P. Because he's red as well. Yeah, of course. Oh, no, we didn't.
Starting point is 00:18:37 It actually did. That's unbelievable. Oh my God. Isn't that like actually fucked? Started watching, not showing his list, but... What? Saving Private Ryan. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:55 I was thinking about where Alvin could be in there. Tom Hanks on the beach, like hiding from the gunfire. Alvin! Yeah, because Theodore would have run off the boat instantly been like filled with holes. Simon would have a bit more like, to be. Theodore's the one who's got like one arm and he's like looking for his arm.
Starting point is 00:19:14 He picks it up and puts it in his cheek. Yeah. Oh my God, dude. Yeah. And P's witness replied to that previous one saying, don't worry, it's just them coming to terms with the return of P. He was banished, but he'll be back. He's not coming back, guys.
Starting point is 00:19:32 How can he? He's gone. Just shut up and think for like a second. Like sit down and fucking... Yeah, think about the... The law. Yeah. It doesn't make sense.
Starting point is 00:19:42 It'll be like bringing Iron Man back as the main villain. Yeah. It'll be like bringing back Captain Maracraft at the end of his story or something. Yeah. We did like venomize Porny, right? He can just eat the Spider-Man out of the grape shit. Dissom Bard says, can we call it with the edgy jokes next week? Like, I thought the jarling last at was overreacting a bit,
Starting point is 00:20:06 but I feel like things are getting unnecessarily mean-spirited. forgot what I didn't like about this episode as I just don't want to re-watch it, but I definitely didn't find the PrEP and Epstein shit last week funny. What preff and Epstein shit? We said Alvian was on prep and that Theodore was trapped on Epstein Island. Oh, yeah. How's that mean-spirited? That's innocent. We were on their side.
Starting point is 00:20:34 Yeah. You know? Yeah, we don't want him there. Also, bad week to say this when it's what has happened in the last week. Yeah. Yeah. A certain versory. Yeah, of 9-11.
Starting point is 00:20:49 Yeah. No one cares about 9-11 anymore. It's been usurped. I saw a crazy video of like, um, it must have been like students in an American university and people go up with like a mic and say like, who, who was responsible for 9-11? Yeah. And they're like. ever I think it's crazy that
Starting point is 00:21:14 like in American history 9-11 has been usurbed Like there's a new By Charlie Yeah I guess like Nobody cares about 9-11 anymore If yeah I guess if you weren't like born for it
Starting point is 00:21:26 It's like your new reference point Yeah Of like Domestic Violence Yeah Well not that kind Right yes yes
Starting point is 00:21:38 True, true. Last one, Val's Keeping from Butterlove. I hope all this Alvin talk results in the jar boys eventually seeing the clip of one of the chipmunks talking about how, quote, they feel like P. Diddy with fur. So apparently there are a couple of P. Diddy references. I'll play the audio to see if I can include this. So they go to like the white parties. One day you're throwing back pink lemonade on Diddy's yacht and sandropay. Oh fuck, Alvin.
Starting point is 00:22:10 This is absurd. I feel like peedity with fur. There it is. Oh my God. That's fucking weird, man. Yeah. Not one but two. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:25 Alvin's exposing himself. Shush, man. Fuck. Fuck me. Too much excitement for one. Yeah. And it's hot in here as well. Yeah, I'm getting warm.
Starting point is 00:22:36 It's all the Alvin energy. avonized. Yeah, I feel like P. Diddy with fur or something. So I had a topic to bring out. Mm-hmm. I made this video on ICTV called What was the worst era of YouTube?
Starting point is 00:22:56 And you're a YouTube connoisseur. Yeah. You've been enjoying it through all the eras. Yeah. I broke it down into five eras, I think it was. Do you know what the go-tipers? eras? That was what I was going to do is ask you
Starting point is 00:23:11 because I've given my opinion. Oh, well, if we go through your eras and what am I going to like tier list them? You could do that. Rank? Are we doing a ranking? I think it might be time to rank. Yeah, I love a good rank.
Starting point is 00:23:26 I love a good ranking. Yeah. Right, so first era, 2005 to 2009. Yeah. We're talking smash, Fred. Okay. Philip DeFranco I'm sure there's some others I'm missing there
Starting point is 00:23:40 Crazy Frog Yeah lots of um YouTubers doing blackface Oh yeah loads of them Yeah Maybe all of them I'm gonna put that pretty low For now
Starting point is 00:23:54 For now So yeah for now Yeah for now Did you say there's five Uh yes Yeah so this one I want to put it like number four Really
Starting point is 00:24:04 But it might move, you know. I'm not doing the thing where, like, you have to choose and then it stays where it is. Okay, you can shift it with time. Yeah, yeah. Because I thought, there is something kind of innocent about it, especially, like, for the first few years there, where there was no YouTube partner program, so it was genuinely people just doing it for the love of the game.
Starting point is 00:24:22 Yeah, that's true. No incentive. Yeah, so there's a good chance it will be bumped to three. Yeah. Yeah, okay. So that's the early days. Then we go into 2010, to 2013.
Starting point is 00:24:36 This is like when virality and the concept of YouTube kind of started getting big, right? Tobuscus. The Shinema. Pudypie. Captain Sparkles, the fine bros,
Starting point is 00:24:51 rooster teeth, epic rat battles of history, Ray William Johnson, Rebecca Black, Friday, Gangnam Style, and so on. Okay, that's going number four. The previous one's going three, because that's worse. What's worse about that? Why does I hate you like that?
Starting point is 00:25:08 Yogs cast. Oh, okay, maybe it's three. I only like all this the Yogs was so long. Well, you know, my PSN, my PlayStation account is Yogs Pog. Really? Yeah. Ray William Johnson with his watchman comic, you know, the graphic novel. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:37 I'm associating. a lot of the like story time YouTubers as well like the and the rise of like Zuella and stuff I feel like that's maybe the next one okay to be honest
Starting point is 00:25:52 but yeah it's kind of nonsensey that was kind of what was fun there right and like the early like the growing pains of the concept of a but what one of fan base that like stays it's not about just like virality and just like one video going
Starting point is 00:26:11 poop-up. Yeah. That's like that's true. But like the bar was pretty low. Like the the shit like Pudipai was saying and doing it's not exactly like high art is it?
Starting point is 00:26:29 So yeah I'm going to keep that at number four for now because there's a certain area I'm waiting for to put number five. I think you're actually underestimating how bad like some of these are. Yeah. Right. Next one, 2014 to 2017. This is Keem Star, Markiplier, Jack Septukeye,
Starting point is 00:26:50 Paul Brothers, diamond mine cart, leafy and like Idubs and... Yeah, this is the era I was waiting for to put it number five. This is the radicalisation era. Because this is also like the beginning of like Dave Rubin and Ben Shapiro and them lot.
Starting point is 00:27:09 The like early seeds. The, uh, that IUDW. Yes. Yeah, yeah. And, um, Joe Rogan, I feel like started, I feel like you got like the snowball. The snowboard. The mainstream around this time. Yes.
Starting point is 00:27:22 Um, which I guess he didn't realize because he still thinks he's like underground media. Um, but. Comedy assassins. For the minute, I want to put this at number five because like, what a, I think you're wrong. Well, thinking about personally for me, this was the. era that pushed me
Starting point is 00:27:45 towards being right wing. Yeah, I'm sure it did for many of people. Yeah, and I think that's terrible. But this is 2014 to 2017. I would say that was kind of the latter half of that,
Starting point is 00:27:58 like Trump getting in. 2016 just rings big alarm bells in my mind. The feminist owned compilations. Yeah, yeah, yeah, all that sort of shit. I got like Casey Nice stat and like the prank era. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:13 But. A lot of really inappropriate like kids contact. I got a shout out on my guy, Jack Septicoe. Yeah, you, you were big into him. He was busing shit down.
Starting point is 00:28:23 You know, he was, he, I saw a clip of him making a Charlie Kirk joke and I was like, wow, this shit is mainstream, huh? You know.
Starting point is 00:28:33 He's making the fucking Bloodbaw movie, though. Yeah. Well, he's funding it. And that's, for me, though, That's like, finally a fucking YouTuber makes a bunch of money. Markiplier.
Starting point is 00:28:46 And, yeah. High long? Yeah, yeah. But, like, Jack Septickeye has always been very much in the shadow of Markiplier. I feel like they're titans of different. No, but, like, Jack Septickeye was obsessed with Markiplier. Oh, okay. Like, as he was coming up.
Starting point is 00:29:05 Yeah. And Mr. Septic Eye. Um, in my opinion, eclipsed market player. Were you like a big market player guy? No. Yeah. I mean, his, his FNAF videos are fucking goaded. On the hardest difficulty, they're.
Starting point is 00:29:22 Yeah, he locked in. He, like, I've always thought, like, these fucking let's players, like, living the dream, you know? You just get to wake up, film yourself playing a video game for, like, a couple hours, and then edit it and you're done. They make millions of dollars. Yeah. Hundreds of millions.
Starting point is 00:29:39 Um, you got it pretty good. But then I see Mark apply doing 10, 10 on fucking Fnaf. Yeah, that's like... That is respect. That's like, okay, you put in the work, you put in the hours, and it's time for you to take what's ours. He did like all of them as well. Yeah, yeah, he's fucking goated.
Starting point is 00:29:55 I guess for me... Is this the bite of 87? It's the last laugh before the complete and shittification of YouTube. It was like this was the red deb one, like it being tamed, you know, before it's completely like... Corporatized and it... that some of the shit that was going on was just like so fucked up and inappropriate
Starting point is 00:30:14 and just like insane you know and it was like this tension of people making like drama alert and like drama bullshit as well as the commentary community yeah and the traditional media like being in tension with that
Starting point is 00:30:30 it's such um it's totally equivalent to a reality TV slop all of that it was just a bunch of people talking about each other endlessly. Yeah. Just meaningless. But the difference was there were a lot of them,
Starting point is 00:30:47 just like regular people. Um, like random like people would just appear. Yeah. It was like some random guy from some random fucking blaze. Yeah, yeah. Which doesn't really happen anymore. Um,
Starting point is 00:31:01 it's more like you have to be like, ridiculously exceptionally talented like an elephant graveyard to like make any splash. Otherwise it's just like, like kind of random videos that like just hit your you pick because this was also the death of like it's all like algorithm based isn't it the way this kind of evolved oh yeah um yeah there's nothing natural animation died let's plays became viable the like copyright side of that became like viable um yeah but it was also like the death the slow death of like the subscription tab you know yeah you're actually you're actually in communication with like your audience and like
Starting point is 00:31:39 there felt like there was more of like a YouTube community kind of thing going on around the same. Now everything is so like siloed. There is like a completely different feeling now. So I definitely have mixed feelings. A lot of just like bully content. Yeah, really nasty shit. But I mean that's kind of still the case now. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:03 I think it's just like got more and more and shittified. Um, because the next, the next era, the reason I ended it at 2017, because like, that was the, the moment that the, the, the big companies were like, nope. And it was the ad apocalypse. So the next era I narrowed down to 2018 to 2023. The full like corporatization. Mr. Beast comes on the scene. Dream. Fuck.
Starting point is 00:32:31 Yeah. YouTuber boxing. KSI Logan Paul, creator clash. Yeah. Yeah. Cocoa Mellon, Will Smith in like the YouTube rewind. That's right. All of the late night talk show hosts like suddenly realized that they could like monetize in a new way and like ruined it.
Starting point is 00:32:51 That was like such a clear memory for me. It was when I saw Ellen on my like homepage. It was like, oh, fuck, they fucking figured out how it's over. Yeah. The rock has like a channel and it's like, ugh. T-series and the beautiful. thing you got um fuck that is a shit fucking era isn't that awful like it is like the the min maxing a bullshit like that mr beast is a big one with the uh yeah i hate that motherfucker
Starting point is 00:33:20 i hate that man like the content is unwatchable to me like it's it's not like when like there was like the beauty squad right and it was like this just it's not for me it's fine though you know like the it's not offensive yeah it's like Zoella just like making this is how you wrap a present nicely it's like whatever yeah but the mr. Bees thing is like i feel like if i caught my child watching it it'd be like this this feels like it's bad for you yeah i'm sure wouldn't let my kid watch it yeah but they're gonna want to and it's also the yeah the utter and of like oh I've got like a chocolate bar now and a drink you know prime you know and yeah I think this is like yeah maybe that's yeah
Starting point is 00:34:15 well outside of what is next the last one I might keep the 2016 one at five and put this one at four bumping the other two down to two and three I think that's crazy to be be honest. The, how it's, like, the Mr. Beast era is not,
Starting point is 00:34:35 like, worse than, because it's not like that, like, ultra-partisan fucking content isn't like, it's not like it disappeared
Starting point is 00:34:42 after that era. No, I know, but, like, it, it made it viable. It proved, like, that it worked and they could,
Starting point is 00:34:52 um, indoctrinate. But there was still, like, during that era, like the, I just feel like, from that point,
Starting point is 00:34:59 that algorithm got so much more aggressive and just figured that to such a degree it almost felt like an unintended like consequence to a certain degree like people weren't twigged on like they are now people didn't have like the general like understanding or education about like algorithms yeah yeah now it feels like extra like slimy because like a lot of people like understand that now and it's like playing into it no there's definitely truth to what you're saying um because i i personally I personally think the worst era is the current one, 2024 to 2026.
Starting point is 00:35:35 Really? I just made the Mr. Beast picture bigger. You got like footballers making channels and getting like 20 million subs in like a day. The Twitch streamers. I like speed. I like I show speed. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:35:50 But AI content and shorts. Yeah. Yeah, that's hard to argue. It doesn't get worse than... In any of those previous ones, what is worse than that? The thing is, I, I feel. like your perspective is more so a creator
Starting point is 00:36:05 on YouTube and mine is like an end user because I guess for the record out of these five I took part in four of them yeah so yeah so you're more privy to that side of it and like
Starting point is 00:36:20 but you were using the site this whole time no I know but there's a difference between feeling like um like all these celebrities and stuff are kind of encroaching on your space and corporatizing it. Right, right. Whereas an end user, I can choose to ignore that and stick to the stuff that I like. Yeah. Whereas I just see it as more as like there was a pie. Yeah. And now they're taking a big chunk of it. Well, most of it, I would say. Yeah. Unless you are like a Mr. Beast and you have like crazy
Starting point is 00:36:49 money or concepts behind you. Like I mentioned in the video that I get these bizarre emails from these weird fucking dodgy like startups that are like, we want to give you 80 grand to like, to like, as an investment so you can like get so and it's like why you why what do you want like what how many channels are that yes they just hand yeah right big chunk of money and it's supposed to be this like business venture like you it was never supposed to be about that like that no yeah you're you're right it's youtube yeah like it just doesn't like compute um yeah yeah and it's why i have this like um it's just it's um It's like really fucking, oh, well, I do everything.
Starting point is 00:37:36 Yeah. Whereas that's just so unusual now. It's like the teams do everything now. You offload everything and it's all like been, it all just mimics like American business structure. Yeah. And it's like it didn't have to be that way. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, I often think about kind of funny and their kind of trajectory.
Starting point is 00:37:58 Yeah, yeah. It's like, why did you structure? yourselves like that. Yeah, it's like I liked you because you were like a smaller group of voices. No, because they were like a big thing in the 2014-2017 era. Yeah. Showing that you can kind of have a micro-community work for you, like with a Patreon. Um, because even during this era, a Patreon was considered like a bad thing. It was like bad form if you had one for some reason. Um, I remember that, like that pressure of like, if you have one, then It's like somehow bad.
Starting point is 00:38:35 When I don't think like diversifying or having different streams like that is bad. I think it allows a lot of like more variety and the microcommunity thing to actually try. Yeah, I mean, I guess back when there were fewer limitations on YouTube itself, it wasn't as necessary. It could be seen I guess as like a greedy, just like money hungry thing. Yeah, whereas now it's like if you want to talk about like AI or like the wars. going on around the world. You need, if you're an independent YouTube,
Starting point is 00:39:05 you have to be funded by something else. Yeah, you need to have like... Yeah, because it'll all be blocked. So I think the combination, especially of AI and shorts, I think that the shorts format, the TikTok format, which during the 2014-to-2017 era
Starting point is 00:39:25 was like the punchline. It was making fun of Vine. It was like the cringiest. It didn't make money. It didn't work. No one liked. liked it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:33 But then it just... Vapid. Then it just came... Then it came back and now it's the default, like... Yeah. ...way people consume information. Apparently, like, kids don't even Google shit anymore. They search it on the TikTok search bar.
Starting point is 00:39:44 Like, that's how they find information now. Um, which I think is just a net loss for all of humanity, to be honest. Yeah. And, like, Google getting rid of their, like... What was their, their catchphrase? It was like, we will not be evil or something. And they, like, got rid of their... rid of it.
Starting point is 00:40:04 I'll find exactly, but what's your ranking now? I don't know anymore. Because the AI and shorts thing really makes me want to put that at five. Google's famous motto is actually don't be evil. Gmail creator
Starting point is 00:40:28 and other engineers introduced the phrase around 1999 to 2003 as a guiding principle for the company's cool values. When Google reorganized under the parent company, Alphabet in 2015, Alphabet, adopted do the right thing as its core motto, while Google kept Don't Be Evil. In 2018, Google moved the main prominent mention of the phrase through the final line referencing it still remains at the very end of the Code of Conduct. So they scaled it back just a little bit.
Starting point is 00:41:03 So yeah, what was your final ranking? I don't I think from 2018 onwards it's kind of like a wash to be honest yeah I think from 2016 onwards like in my personal experience um it felt like there was like those early algorithm days it felt like it immediately jumped on to let's funnel right wing shit into people's faces, you know, uh, but that felt to me like, uh,
Starting point is 00:41:41 people were like, almost not understanding what they were doing. I'm sure that people designing the algorithms understood that, oh, the shit that makes you angry. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Gets pushed more. Um, well, yeah,
Starting point is 00:41:52 the algorithm itself doesn't have a political allegiance, but what it's going to do is reinforce whatever the, the status quo is. No, I know, but it, it, saying like, oh, let's use this algorithm to push right wing agendas. It's that people are already semi-leaning right-wing, so then the algorithm catalyzes on that.
Starting point is 00:42:18 It's like a weakness of like a human condition type thing where it's like we have an innate negativity bias. You remember that atrocious interaction you had with somebody 15 years ago, but like you have a pleasant one with no friction and it like passes you by. It doesn't necessarily ring to you. It doesn't haunt you, you know, in the same way with like when you get a bad comment or something like you have a thousand good ones, one horrible one. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You get pissed off by a video. You're watching more of it ironically. You're commenting more on it.
Starting point is 00:42:52 You're actually pressing like a dislike more. So then I guess the engineers were like, well, we see this human behavior. We can get engagement up by leaving. leaning into that. Um, and that has got just more and more extreme. Yeah. Um, over the past decade.
Starting point is 00:43:12 I also think in that, that 2016 era, there was a huge issue. Um, and there still is, um, because a lot of these characters still kind of exist. But like the political discussion from people like, um, like shoe on head, people like, uh, like penguin zo. Um, you equating them? No, but they both have this sense of like, um, uh, what's the time I'm thinking of, uh, like,
Starting point is 00:43:49 what's the time when, when something's just like obvious comes in, uh, into it, uh, I feel, oh, I'm totally fucking blanking on like a pointless. It will come to you, but, um, but the, the, the kind of, like, the nothing politics it's like are both sides are like a centrist yeah centrist um the the fucking exact term i'm trying to think of um for me i'd put it as like sane washing the like overton window to like just common sense oh right yeah like common sense politics i i like there they've been um i think like blair white kind of is tried to use that as well.
Starting point is 00:44:40 But like... That's the thing like the common sense gun laws and stuff like that they say. Yeah, yeah. But what does that actually really mean? Well, yeah. And it's totally naive.
Starting point is 00:44:51 And it's also arrogant. To think that like, well, I know better because I'm just being sensible. It's like, well, obviously you don't know shit then. You know, and it's all these people that that say they actively like don't take part in politics and stuff
Starting point is 00:45:13 and it's like well you can't then come out and say well it's common sense just do this yeah the slow erosion of things yeah and for the record like Sean Head is way worse than Penguin I quite like Charlie Penguin guy
Starting point is 00:45:28 but he's got some rocky political takes because he he's not like in that world and that's fine it's like stay in your game a thing then. Yeah, you know, because,
Starting point is 00:45:38 or like commentary. That's what he does. Like, yeah. And this crazy thing happened with, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:44 And like, that's, that's fine. I mean, it's, it's like, and it's, it's not to say,
Starting point is 00:45:50 like, what, what we do here. I'm sure some of it's slop, you know, but, Alvanized slop. It's like,
Starting point is 00:45:59 Alvanized slop. You can't argue that, like, the Alvin Venomized shit isn't slop. It's like, literal, black slop yeah that attaches to you and creates some sort of symbiosis um you could call it like a
Starting point is 00:46:15 symbiote or something but my point is like that that era was excellent for like the start like of radicalization you know it and it's Ben Shapiro did the same shit like it was the facts don't care about your feelings it's the um it's it's it's it's it's trying to utilize common sense against you. Owned compilations and all of it. Yeah, yeah. Stephen Crowder and I've changed my mind. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:47 Yeah, so I remember being like 18 or so and being far more vulnerable to just absorbing shit without critical thinking, which is also a no-no term now. I guess that my only argument is that I don't think that's gone away. it's just kind of been since that point, like, more unleashed.
Starting point is 00:47:11 This is almost directly in order of, like, how I'd rate it, kind of. Yeah, I'm starting to tell you in that way. Yeah. The thing is, something I like, I think YouTube is now way better for than it ever has been before is, like journalism done well with decent production value yeah because while the shorts thing came up then it was also the very long
Starting point is 00:47:46 form podcasts and video essays yeah yeah um and i i think in terms of education youtube's probably better than it ever has been as long as you use it right. Yeah, that's that's the caveat is yeah. Big caveat. If you know how to use it like a tool, it's like amazing. Yeah. The shit that's on it, like the history you can learn, the science you can yeah, yeah, yeah. The, um, the amount of, um, like, lectures and shit you can watch from like real fucking universities. Jordan Peterson. There's so many. Yeah. It's some, for that stuff,
Starting point is 00:48:27 it's fantastic now, but, um, that for you, page man. That's it? you're right. I think that shit is like awful. Like four U-page. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, you're making a case too solid for me to disagree. And then when you get, there's no worse feeling when on your homepage, you're like, you want to sit down and watch like a nice video.
Starting point is 00:48:53 You see something like like, oh, that's a good idea for a video. And it looks like long and chunky. It's like 45 minutes. You press on it. And then this like robot starts speaking. Yeah. And it's like, oh, so like, so this video wasn't even made by a fucking human being. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:09 This was like, the script was written by a robot. The voice was like stealing some other human being's voice and repurposing. Or an amalgamation. It's like actually like demonic. It's like, actually all the hell, like. Yeah. So. No, that was a good convert.
Starting point is 00:49:31 I feel like some good stuff came up there. Yeah. So going through memory lane. Um, yeah, crazy. I guess we'll see you off these messages. Rankers on PS5. Out now.
Starting point is 00:49:49 PlayStation. Only money. This is wild. There's on there. Downloading wankers on my Xbox. Which one is Bart's real scream? Ben, Sala. Check please.
Starting point is 00:50:05 Fee. That's my line, silly. I like big fuck see that. Dobby. All right, let's round this guy down, doing some questions from the Jarmedia subreddit. Ah, slash Venom. And the group chat on Patreon as well.
Starting point is 00:50:31 Start with this one from James' biological father. The boys need to have an extensive Gorilla Grod Lord deep dive because, holy shit, those set pictures from the show look hype as fuck. Yeah, I'm pretty fucking hype. Have you seen this? Yeah, there's like a
Starting point is 00:50:45 He's like a musical number Yeah It looks fucking funny He's like hanging out with matter eater lad Yeah yeah That's not me Hell yeah Yeah I'm
Starting point is 00:50:57 I'm I would not be That excited if it wasn't for the team Who's making it Where it's like Okay I think you could do something With this
Starting point is 00:51:05 Who is the team I haven't actually watched it But I've heard nothing but good things About this show American graffiti It's like a comedy Like the George Lucas film Oh shit I'm
Starting point is 00:51:15 Yeah maybe I'm getting a mixed up Fuck It's so let me to do a graffiti Oh my Oh Christ Guerrilla grog graffiti Yeah it's not American graffiti Fuck wharfity
Starting point is 00:51:27 Um It's like graffiti Netflix show Comedy What fuck is it called? Oh American Vandal For God's sake Oh okay
Starting point is 00:51:39 Yeah Get my My wires cross there So in DC, is it more like you get senestroized? As opposed to vans. I don't know anything about Lantern's law, to be honest. I thought Sinestra is like the purple-headed guy. Yeah, who gets like the yellow suit.
Starting point is 00:51:57 But what does that have to do of like a symbiote style? Well, like, um... Yeah, what is... They're always have an equivalent. The rings are always like emotions. Right. So like red is rage or something. Green is, um...
Starting point is 00:52:13 willpower. Um, and yellow is fear, right? I don't know. I'm telling you. So, like, if you feel too much fear, then the Sinestro core will be, like, attracted to you.
Starting point is 00:52:28 Or something like, I'm not a fucking, I've never read, I'm going to watch lanterns, but I'm just, I'm definitely going to watch lanterns. It sounds fucking great. And every clip I've seen, I'm like, hell yeah. This looks fucking cool. Also, John Stewart in, uh, in the animated justice league is like the best.
Starting point is 00:52:44 character. He's so fucking cool. I've had a couple people just like hounding me to watch that like for so many years. The Justice League show. Yeah. Really. I used to be obsessed with this YouTube channel that made loads of videos about all those. Yeah. Um, yeah. Um, yeah, I mean, sure, like, fuck it. Why not Gorilla Grodd go into graduating or whatever? Yeah. Oh dear. Usurp noodles says, would you eat a venomized Greg sausage roll?
Starting point is 00:53:21 Maybe he carnaged. I'd eat a riotized one. Really? Yeah. I wouldn't eat a riotized one. I'd go carnageized. Bread is like tomato. Well, red I'm thinking, like, sort of tomato.
Starting point is 00:53:37 Get your subway. Venomized? Sub. using Squid ink Hell yeah Alex would you do a vlog for Jaha if you went to the George Lucas Museum
Starting point is 00:53:51 Hell yeah I don't want to go to California at the moment though Betfred Gambler said Question for Alex, maybe Jimbo 2 What desk chair do you have? I spent a lot of time sat down I spend a lot of time sat down desk work and pro gamer
Starting point is 00:54:10 and for the last four years or so I've been using a cheap shitty gaming chair it served me well but I gotta upgrade my lower back pain is catching up to me and I'm worried any minute my L5 disc is going to sizzle pop and disintegrate into a liquid disc and vertebrae gumbo soup
Starting point is 00:54:26 I'm torn between getting a real top ranger steel case leap Amia Herman Miller Airon or more of a midranger the prices of the expensive ones will kill me but if it's worth it in the long run I may have to take the plunge. Cheers my goated gamblers.
Starting point is 00:54:43 So this chair is a Herman Miller, Erron. Nice. If you, like, do desk shit, I feel like it's, like, essential to spend a little bit more for a desk chair. It's not going to destroy your back. Anything you're using daily, I feel like it's okay for spending a bit more. Yeah. Also remember to wipe your bum properly. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:03 I learned that at the hard way. Mine's covered in poop. Pooh. I did get it from, like, an outlet. I got it from Swindon, actually I got it from the John Lewis outlet Nice Yep
Starting point is 00:55:16 So like it's not like it was cheap But it was cheaper than they are new Yeah bloody So I got mine from Ikea Ikeeer Mike Rear Yeah
Starting point is 00:55:31 So it will hurt short term But pay off long term Yeah You know I'm I'm going sort of anti-chair, though, these days. Standing desk, just standing gamer. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:46 Gaming on the hoopla. Hoopla. Sounds like a lot of hoopla. Quirin says, Hello, Chiplings. Hello. Who's good you do a roleplay of crisp monks ordering a Chinese? Thank you.
Starting point is 00:56:10 Ready? Br-br-br-br-br-br-br-br-d-r-pru-d-p-d-p---------------------re. Oh, I like that. Can you have to... Hmm. Go-gall about two chicken balls. Um... Oh, good.
Starting point is 00:56:28 Give me some seaweed. Yeah, crispy seaweed. This one. That's one. It just gives you too much. Um. Um. Um.
Starting point is 00:56:40 There's sparrows Oh Pro toast Prong toast Oh chicken Beef beef spoon Yeah,
Starting point is 00:56:49 That only did your festival chicken Chewere Chalman They only do a fastball chicken And cheese Prombos Oh, Can we go
Starting point is 00:57:00 Just do that for an hour Yeah We could have gone for a while Yeah I know a Chinese menu like Oh gosh
Starting point is 00:57:11 Yeah You've seen how much weight he's lost? Has he? He's on his own his own pork? No, I don't think, I think he's just being real, you know? He's just not ordering fucking... He's just ordering, like, three things instead of 45 things. That man can eat.
Starting point is 00:57:26 He's our Theodore. Yeah, at the end of his orders, it's like, that'll be 140 pounds. Yeah. I was like, what? I like this one from they, them, Melvin, sibling of the woker. Can we get a CBT of the Chaser names? I'm Australian and sometimes we get graced with the beast on our version and would like to hear what the other beast thinks. I didn't know they did other variants of the chase.
Starting point is 00:57:51 Yeah, that's brave. There are three different variants. There's the British, the Australian and the American variants. Okay. So we're going to need to get your CBT cringe-based or tough ratings. I think we're going to have a lot of tough. So we're starting with the British. Yep.
Starting point is 00:58:05 The Beast. Tough. Or the transatlantic giant in America. I suppose that's more based than the tough. The Dark Destroyer. Yeah, tough. Just the destroyer in Australia. The governess. Goviness.
Starting point is 00:58:26 That's kind of tough as well. You sound like fucking Metal Gear characters. Yeah, yeah. The Sinoman. The Sinaman I'm not crazy about. It sounds so much like... Cinnamon. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:39 I'll go... It's nearly there though. Yeah. I'll go tough cringe Yeah, no fair The cinnamon The Vixen Vixen's
Starting point is 00:58:51 Pretty tough as well Yeah Yeah And the last one for the UK The Menace Oh There's some cringe there Because I think of Dennis the Menace
Starting point is 00:59:01 Yeah that's a bit But it's tough cringe Yeah The menace Yeah Because he chases you down Yeah He's like the wild card
Starting point is 00:59:10 In the group Yeah Yeah Bionicles Yeah, he's like the yellow Bionicle Okay, the Australian ones The shark
Starting point is 00:59:18 The shark The shark Um That one doesn't really work for me I'll be honest The shark Hmm It's too like
Starting point is 00:59:32 Maybe it needs to be like a specific shark Like the hammerhead or something Yeah Hammerhead would be fucking cool Yeah But then it'll be a bit spider many The Great White A bit racial
Starting point is 00:59:45 The makeup A bit racial If he was called The Great White but he was black Yeah That'd be cool Or Mexican
Starting point is 00:59:55 A lot of Mexicans in Australia Yeah They actually might be I have no idea I'll go cringe For the shark Okay That sounds like someone who lones you money And then breaks your knees
Starting point is 01:00:07 Yeah That's kind of tough That is kind of tough actually I'll switch to tough This is the only one The next one is the only one that drops the the so it's just simply
Starting point is 01:00:18 Goliath Goliath I gotta say so far Australian one's kind of lacking in source in the way the UK one has the source There's only one I like Especially thinking about
Starting point is 01:00:36 The accent as well Yeah you have to picture it with the accent Yeah Yeah The super nerd I'm cringe Super nerd That's cringe as fuck
Starting point is 01:00:46 Yeah that one sucks Yeah, what the fuck? I'm not intimidated at all. Yeah. Goliath is better than that. Yeah. I'll go cringe stuff on Goliath and I'll go just cringe for the nerd. The tiger mom.
Starting point is 01:00:58 That fucking sucks. Do they even have tigers in Australia? They've got such a variety of animals. Why not just the tiger? Tiger would be fine. Yeah, the tiger. Why the tiger mum? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:01:10 Is that a reference or something? I'm going to go cringe on that one. That shit sucks. The smiling assassin. in. Okay, that's pretty tough. Yeah, that's a really good one. Yeah, that's tough based. There's a, there's a juxtaposition going on there. You know, assassin's so violent, but smiling is so sort of cheeky. Yeah. Yeah. Kind of like, um, smile dog or something. And lastly, the professor. Oh, okay. I like that. That's not bad, actually. Yeah, that's cool. That's okay. I'll give that one
Starting point is 01:01:43 a tough. That makes me think of like, um, a Spider-Man villain. any of them the professor because they're all professors i'm picturing like a yeah a white lab coat yeah yeah and like some some like circle glasses that are blacked out yeah or they do the anime like reflecting white yeah and lastly american the high roller the high roller that kind of works yeah that's cool i'll give that tough um the professor what the fuck Different from the Australian professor. The professor. Yeah, it's still tough, though, isn't it?
Starting point is 01:02:21 Yeah. The buzz saw. Oh, okay. Yeah, tough. The queen. Cringe. The lightning bolt. It's too verbose.
Starting point is 01:02:39 Word of the bum, verbose. Cringe on that one. And finally, the stunner. That sounds like a video game, me. You know, like the guy in Batman who hold the stun sticks? Yeah. The sterno. No, I cringe. They always bring my combos. So honestly, let down by the Aussies there, they're normally better with word stuff.
Starting point is 01:03:01 Yeah. If it was like the, um, the didgerie doodagh. That would be fucking tough. The wiggly plum. Yeah. The, uh, the veggie might assess. Yeah. Now you're thinking. Um, ask for sin and you sure will re-sleeve says, Pint or Cocktail?
Starting point is 01:03:26 Which pint? If pint, what top cocktail if cocktail if cocktail branch branch? Well, let's have a Google. Well, it depends what I'm feeling. Depends what's on tap. That's always the first question. Yeah, that's an excellent point. If you're in pint mood.
Starting point is 01:03:44 Yeah, but if it's a pint, it's a lager. If it's a cocktail, I do like a bloody Mary I do like an espresso martini I do like an espresso martini is a shout I do like a spicy mug yeah I like spicy mug I do like a thing with an olive
Starting point is 01:04:06 a martini I'm not really into martini is it got to be real I just like the way they look they do look good they're cool you can get other cocktails in that like glass yeah but I like the color and everything like they're visually cool but my favorite my go-to has always been the one i'm blank the name i'm blanking i'm mokito thank you i love a mincee extra minty mahito those are good those are good some of these
Starting point is 01:04:31 are weather dependent for me yeah um also like if i have any inkling of a bit of heartburn i can't touch any cocktail right right um can't really touch lager either but i'll stomach it for the lager old-fashioned um love an old-fashioned that little slice of orange yeah i don't I'm not crazy about how an old-fashioned tastes, but I love how they look. And I had, I was, I drank a lot of them when we were in Vegas because, like, it just felt right. Yeah. It's like, yeah. I did like a G&T there as well.
Starting point is 01:05:05 I like, sometimes I just like it simple, you know, just like a Volka tonic. Yeah. Volka cranberry is good. Just vodka with anything, really. Yeah, Volker straight, honestly. Yeah, just a pint of vodka. Yeah, so what you will about the Russians, but they did figure that shit out. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:23 Yeah, they cooked with that one. Very good. Because I went through like a gin thing and then kind of just transitioned into vodka. Yeah. I just like having a bottle of vodka in the freezer and like. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe a little bit too much.
Starting point is 01:05:39 Yeah. Yeah. It's very moorish. It's moreish and it's the empty calories that gets me outside of the way. Yeah. Yeah, no, the slow brain damage. Who gives a shit about that, though? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:55 I wish I knew less, so, yeah. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. Just scroll enough on YouTube shorts and take shots of vodka, and you'll be there, like, before you know it. Yeah, I don't want to know more wrong. I just want to know less. Apparently, like, younger generations don't really drink anymore. I think we're kind of, like, almost the cutoff point. Well, like, it's just maybe there's like a price thing.
Starting point is 01:06:19 That's what's wrong with the world then. Yeah. They're all like, um, you know, like clavicular. They're all like counting their calories and like only eating unseasoned chicken breast. It's so stupid. You don't have to live like that, to be fair. Yeah, look at Brad Pitt. He's a raging alcoholic.
Starting point is 01:06:39 Yeah. He looks great in Fight Club. Spooky one says, What's the most addicted you've ever been to a video game? I know Alex has had a situation. history with destiny. Yeah, yours is destiny. But has there been any recent ones? Is there a game that Jim struggled to stop playing and when he did stop? The thought of playing it is all he could think about until he hop back on. For me personally in recent memory, it would have to be
Starting point is 01:06:58 Arc Raiders or Balatro. I highly recommend Balotro if you haven't played it or don't because we may never see you guys again. Also, just like to say that, I can't thank you, boys, enough for doing the show for all these years. You've really helped me through some hard times, especially some shit I'm going through now. I never really leave questions here anymore but I've been tuned in every week since 2017. A few months ago I started a new job. I'm allowed to have earphones in while I work so I've been listening my way through from the very beginning again and I've made it post corn 2020 era. Sorry if this is a long ramble have a good rest of the cast mingers. Stay strong gobbler. Yeah. Anything recent. I've got to mention it's
Starting point is 01:07:35 destiny one though. I was never I was never hooked on any game ever like that since. I'll have like short-lived obsessions Eldon Ring Yeah I'd say from soft games Just in general Red There 2 maybe for me Like I got quite addicted to like the online bullshit
Starting point is 01:08:00 You did yeah Um Gears of War actually I found Rainbow 6 Siege quite addictive Yeah Um I typically If I'm gonna get addicted to a game
Starting point is 01:08:14 It is typically like an online thing. Yeah, that doesn't really get me as much. Like, you're talking like competitive. Yeah, like PVP. I didn't get quite into art graders, but it wasn't like a problem. Yeah, I was into arc graders, but I wouldn't say I was anywhere near addicted. It was just fun.
Starting point is 01:08:37 Probably, uh, Apex was the last one to me that was like... Were you playing that? Solo, because I only really played that, like... A bit. Solo. Yeah. I was always so shit at it, to be honest. I was never particularly good.
Starting point is 01:08:57 Yeah, there was something moreish. Yeah. About, like, dropping down again. Yeah, I haven't thought about that game in years. Yeah. No, it... Yeah, it was fun while it lasted, but... Yeah, I...
Starting point is 01:09:09 I just don't really have it in me a lot of the time. You know? Yeah. It's a lot easier. the younger you are and the less fewer responsibilities you have. Yeah, no doubt no doubt for sure. But what do you think for me?
Starting point is 01:09:26 Um I feel like Dark Souls won and it might be one. Yeah, but I'd say that about like your your like knowledge of it because we've nearly finished it now actually um, doing the co-op mod. Like you just know everything which makes it way more fun for me because I don't have to like really think
Starting point is 01:09:44 or remember anything especially with how much bullshit is in that fucking game. I love Dark Souls, well, me. I'm playing through Demon Souls at the moment. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I don't think, uh, I think there's a reason Dark Souls made waves and Demon Souls didn't. What, you're like, it's not hitting you the same.
Starting point is 01:10:09 It's just not as good of a game, by any means. Yeah. It's like, not even close. You can see the DNA. Yeah, and like, don't get me wrong, there's some, good cool shit um but fuck me is it just an asshole like like punishing where it's like yeah for no reason yeah like in dark souls it always felt like natural in demon souls it's like why did you why are you doing this to me why do you not want me to enjoy your game right yeah it's like just trying to
Starting point is 01:10:43 fucking piss me off i think that's why alderm ring is the one that got so yeah the mega one you know yeah yeah because it just has that it's just less punishing i guess yeah um yeah i can't think of any other recents that have really got me addicted um i like to dangle has almost the fucking fatest you've ever fucking been in your goddamn life i was once put on the antipsychotic abillify and i became 220 pounds Or what, like, 15 and a half stone? Why the fuck do you do the British use stone? It's the least convenient way to say weight and fuck you if you've ever genuinely used it.
Starting point is 01:11:30 Fuck all British people. Kilograms are a lot easier, just do kilograms. Yeah. Yeah, that's pretty heavy. I think I'm the fattest I've been. Yeah, so for me, it's either now or like 2020. Yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:11:52 I don't know. Like I'm 30 now, so the second you turn 30, you just like... Inflate. Yeah. No, I thought you're looking quite healthy these days. Really? Thank you. Yeah. I thought, like, post-2020, you had put on some, but I... Oh, definitely, yeah. And everyone did. I did. And it was when, because we kind of...
Starting point is 01:12:16 I started shortly after you, but that's when fasting became a thing. That's right, yeah. That was an easy way to kind of... No, but what really... It was Yumi and James in this room and you were like, oh come on, let's do push-ups. And like, I could barely do like two. And I was like, no.
Starting point is 01:12:34 Yeah, that's a problem. No. This is like not okay, especially with these powerlifting jeans. Yeah. I'm wasting what God gave me. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I don't know. No, because for me, my equivalent one of that at the minute is...
Starting point is 01:12:49 I used to be able to do like 12 pull-up. in a row which it's not a crazy amount but um it's more than what most people can do now i struggle getting up to five it's like so it's the combination of getting heavier and getting weaker it's like yeah yeah there's just something like don't like it don't like it um and then i start going to the gym and then my fucking bullsack explodes and um yeah and it so the the antibiotics i'm on this very moment have a side effect of making your tendons really vulnerable
Starting point is 01:13:28 so it explicitly says like don't exercise and yeah and apparently it can last for up to like three months after wow yeah so I'm going to go back to the gym and just fucking destroy one of my arms or something
Starting point is 01:13:45 yeah yeah no I was thinking about that with like because I've just had this dumb bell over there. Yes. And have this like routine, um, I can just do in here like, um, while I'm like waiting for something to encode or just doing like menial shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:14:03 And there is like a, it's like an endorphin psychological thing where it just feels like, just lifting a weight. It just feels like something that like dudes should do. Well, everyone should do. Absolutely. Um, there is. And it doesn't have to be like a dumbbell just like a heavy box. Yeah, or you could fill like, you know, the big
Starting point is 01:14:27 bottles of water you can get. Yeah. You could fill that and lift that or something. Yeah, yeah. There's something about that. Your body really wants to be worked. Everything, like... You never feel worse.
Starting point is 01:14:41 No. But you always feel better after doing it. And like, because I have dogs, I'm walking a fair amount. But it hits, like, something different. Big time. It's also the... the like delayed reward of like maybe you can do 10 reps of a certain weight and then you keep doing that
Starting point is 01:15:05 and a month later you can squeeze out another couple reps that like long-term reward cycle can become yeah so enjoyable and I think there's there's like a weird stigma with like lifting weights and like this expectation to be this like I'm a bodybuilder now I'm like this yeah I want to be this monster yeah but there's there's that crazy naive um thought that typically I think a lot of women tend to say but it's like oh I don't want to like get too bulky it's like good fucking luck yeah yeah like every man down the gym is trying to get bulky and they can't you know that fucking Yeah, especially if you're a woman.
Starting point is 01:15:55 It's even harder to gain muscle and shit. Like, uh, yeah, there is something also like practical kind of about it. It's like, oh, I can like lift something like literally. Yeah. Like if I'm moving shit around. I mean, that's one of the best things about calisthenics. Um, is it being able to manipulate your body in space? Like that, that will never not be useful.
Starting point is 01:16:17 Yeah, yeah. Especially when like you, you start seeing older people who struggle to get off the sofa. Mm-hmm. know it's like if if you keep training the ability to move your body then as you get older it's not going to be such a struggle yeah yeah do everyone should do weight training i think yeah doesn't seem like i think more workplaces should have gym access yeah because it the majority of jobs require you to be inactive and that's really fucking bad for mental health like no wonder everyone's killing themselves yeah it's like a death job thing um yeah yeah
Starting point is 01:16:53 it's why I've always like this isn't doing anything really but it's better than nothing the forearm trainer yeah yeah like doing that as well I don't know I feel like humans need resistance
Starting point is 01:17:06 you don't know life does yeah like I mean that you know mentally and physically yeah like it but we obviously want to take the past for least resistance
Starting point is 01:17:18 what we've got I feel like in in modern life at the moment is it's like maxed out mental resistance and mined out physical resistance. So like we're all super stressed all the time. All these things going on that we've all got to do. And life just gets more stressful the older you get. Meanwhile, our body, like we eat shit food and we don't move.
Starting point is 01:17:46 Yeah. So we just rot. Rot. Rot. Rod I got to do I got to do this one from Bionno Pizza
Starting point is 01:18:00 Did you know you can actually develop a shellfish allergy When you're already an adult Let me spin a tail for you Jim A tale as old as time You and Alex are eating some delicious lobster So buttery and good juices flying off in every direction
Starting point is 01:18:15 Even Argy enjoys a little lick The lobster is still alive too And wriggling Such is a delicacy of the time in this tale. But then Alex starts to swell up. His throat closes, he chokes. You try and save him, but in the end it's just too late. He dies. A few nights after the incident you are visited by a stranger. He shows up in a blue mist in the middle of the night. It stinks of despair. You ask him who he is. He pulls off his hood and reveals himself to be the devil himself. But he sort of looks like a certain alien from a certain hit franchise of people in suits. I can't get into the details. Anyway, he asks you if you will trade your soul for Alex's. Here's his deal. Alex comes back to life, but you, Jim, can never ever play another Soulslight game ever.
Starting point is 01:19:02 Do you accept the deal? Please answer yes or no. And he's got like multiple options. Do you want more details? Can I watch Souls games being played? Um... The devil shakes his head with a sly smile. Oh Jim, I'm sorry, but my...
Starting point is 01:19:22 lips stay sealed. The deal is a deal and I cannot elaborate. It's up to you to decipher. Well, yeah, surely. In the, in the wording of the deal, I can't play. Right? So I can watch. It's written as can never play another Soulslike game ever. Another? So I can play all the ones that I've already played. Okay, yeah, that's fine. You're worth that. Unfortunately for you, Jim, Life itself is considered a soul's like to the devil. And you die instantly. Also, Alex is reincarnated as a lobster and eaten.
Starting point is 01:20:00 So there wasn't much point to it all. You know what? I'm glad you got to experience Jordan Peterson lobster style. And if you said no, that was a good choice. Because what the devil neglected to inform you is that Alex would come back as a lobster. And you would unknowingly eat him. What's that that it was being allergic? Oh, because you developed the allergy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:20:20 Yeah, I see. Yeah, it was kind of like a jumping off point kind of. inciting incident type yeah yeah yeah that was a good story oh i liked that i liked the like multiple choice interactivity yeah that was very clever that was some good shirts um now this one might piss you off i'm warning you um you fucking piss me off me yeah what what did i do you know what you know what's fucking kept me up at night for weeks what months maybe chick months what what chip months what what month's chip months
Starting point is 01:20:55 yeah what the listeners I'm gonna be fucking interested at one iota what but um going back to when you said
Starting point is 01:21:05 um Arkham Asylum over city fuck me it's so fucking and I got the people on my side yeah and they're all fucking wrong it's insane it's such rose-tinted glasses
Starting point is 01:21:18 you guys are fucking idiots it's not straight up play Arkham city in the big fat year of 2026. I'm telling you. I did it like five years ago. I'm telling you, it's better than fucking Spider-Man PS4. I always had that
Starting point is 01:21:32 opinion. It's better than... I think Knight is better than both of the Spider-Man games. Yeah. I mean, yeah, night... debatable, but but
Starting point is 01:21:49 Arkham Asylum is not better than Spider-Man Pierce 4. Wrong. you're fucking go back and play arkmas that's wrong that's like go back and play arcomasal right it's like dark souls one right it started something it's not perfect a lot of it is perfect no it's not it's not i'm asylum it started something big it started waves it started something no but like no so arkham asylum is the demon souls no it's not yeah it is it's not yet is it is dark Yeah it is. Yeah it is. Yeah it is.
Starting point is 01:22:22 It is. That's going to piss people off. No. No. People are fucking stupid. If, if, if you can play, and I've played them back to back many times, and I'm playing through Arkham City again after getting like halfway through Arkham Asylum. And I've got to play through of Arkham Knight on the go. Right. I'm juggling these games at the minute. I'm giving it a, and I've played these games way fucking more than your average fucking Batman. You have fucking chipmunk Yeah I've played more than you average Theodore and he's a glutton Okay Fuck venomized but like
Starting point is 01:22:56 Bain I was thinking that because of And monk Yeah Like venomized Venomized He's got Bain's venom Venomized and Venon
Starting point is 01:23:06 Yeah I was thinking exactly that Venomized Venomize Venomized Theodore But anyway No Dude it Arkham City is so far beyond. It's such a leap
Starting point is 01:23:20 in quality. To say anything less than it's the best game ever made, you're fucking stupid and fat. I think you've cooked yourself with this one. No, I'm fucking haven't. I know these games. I've collected every Ridler trophy like three times in like all of these games, apart from night. No, I know why you're saying this.
Starting point is 01:23:43 Why? Because that bit where you carry Harley Quinn. that's in night oh shut up you fucking assholes see you don't know this shit you just expose yourself you fucking
Starting point is 01:23:56 well that's the only bit from the trilogy that matters so yeah I do like the bit in Arkham City though where she's like taped up yeah you would what the fuck man
Starting point is 01:24:06 you can take the tape off her mouth and she's like yeah and then you can put it back on little secret Easter egg that you probably didn't even know because you've only played it like fucking want. No.
Starting point is 01:24:20 I played the first two more than night, to be fair. Oh, me too. But Arkham City is so much fucking better. Story's better? Yeah. Batman's voice acting is better. I can't believe you're dying on this hill.
Starting point is 01:24:36 It's just unnecessary. What fucking other hill would I die on ever? I think it's more like a better comparison is like a new hope to empire. Strong arguments of both. no empire's better but you don't get it without and there's not
Starting point is 01:24:55 no but who gives a shit rough and like no no I I fucking hate that argument why why can't both be good they are both good but to say the Arkham Asylum's better
Starting point is 01:25:09 just because it came first this fucking thumb would it be wrong to say a new you've been wrong no exactly case closed no no Yeah. No, I, I think you're, you're too distant from them.
Starting point is 01:25:28 It's not true. I replayed them just mere years ago. Now we're circling. No. No, no, no, no, no. When? What year? 2021 or 22.
Starting point is 01:25:38 I bought the, like, collection. Years ago then. You want me to play the both of them every day? Until you agree with me, yeah. Yeah. No, you're so fucking wrong, dude. No, no. You've just pissed everybody off.
Starting point is 01:25:54 No, everybody's stupid, genuinely, if they agree with you. Everyone. You're all the crazy ones. Yeah. We have to do this one from Ronnie Bones, who says, Hello, Jim, mate. What new car did you get? And did you get a good deal on it?
Starting point is 01:26:11 Cheers. How do you know I got a new car? You mentioned it. And this is why I wanted to bring this up because there was a Reddit thread. And this is going to vis-y-off. Did Jim randomly get wealthy? Catching up on the last few episodes and Jim says he bought a PS5 Pro,
Starting point is 01:26:29 aka the most expensive console, $800,900. And he bought a new car. He also mentions he gets those hyper overpriced yard pints whenever he goes out. I thought Jim was poor and being exploited by Alex. I don't know. I'm like listening to too well-off people.
Starting point is 01:26:49 What the fuck? So the two, like, musical events I go to a year, I'm not allowed to buy a fucking two pintor. Fuck you. Two, I bought a shitty Mazda fucking Mazda 2 Tamura. It's like a three-door fucking 1.3 litre engine piece of shit car. It's actually a beautiful little runner. What was the other thing? Oh, I bought a PS5.
Starting point is 01:27:17 The PS5 pro one. Yeah, we went to CEX. We got it secondhand. And what? Like, I don't have fuck all else, dude. That's all I got. And you got it at its most expensive when the price had just gone up for GTA. Yeah, I waited for the perfect time to spend as much money as possible. There was a good, like, top. comment on it though from Captain Jack's off with a picture
Starting point is 01:27:51 when the class war is happening and I got a Captain Jack off the creators of P-Mont Dude I'm I am far from fucking wealthy I bought a shit car for 1.3,000 pounds right so you're right, so you're fucking rich yeah and now I can't afford to buy a Lucas Aed sport down the garage because I port a car
Starting point is 01:28:23 because the car that I was replacing was a mini that if you drove it for two minutes it would overheat and steam would come out
Starting point is 01:28:29 the fucking engine I hate that mini I hate that fucking mini trust me it wasn't like it wasn't like the fucking pisser
Starting point is 01:28:36 yeah no I haven't owned a car for two years yeah you sold the salica when did I sell the salica
Starting point is 01:28:47 years ago yeah I sold the Salika to James and I've so I've I've just been bumming off your insurance and mummy's insurance. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:56 Driving a fucking... I mean, your car's nice. But, like, my mum's just got a fucking Toyota Yaris. So that's been like my main car, and I can only use it when she lets me. So it's like, I'm not fucking wealthy. They said it's all from the rugpole of Beast coin. I should do that Another person said he married Bryce Dallas Howard
Starting point is 01:29:28 Oh If that's how I got rich I'd be so proud of myself Yeah that would just be a fair play moment Yeah That would be like a triple win Or um One of them said
Starting point is 01:29:46 They went to Vegas and Jim won money in poker I did win like 30 pounds or something you did pretty well he did better than me to be honest well I've played enough fucking uh red dead blackjack and black I've been putting in the work putting in the hours I'm trying to tape what's ours
Starting point is 01:30:07 oh my god dude um okay maybe we should do one more here um yeah I sound on this one from lead poisoning no question but story of the venomized variety Many years ago I worked with my friend in a customer service job and we became close friends with another guy in our department.
Starting point is 01:30:33 One year around the holidays, he started having issues with rent payments and medical bills. My friend and I loaned him some money to get him through the year since we had the money and were close friends. He was our fourth in GTA online heist and cod zombies Easter eggs. Come Christmas, he sincerely gifted my friends and I each a venomized carnage from go bar. Neither of us even remotely like Funkos so it was just a one-off weird thing Little did we know it was actually a venomized herald of despair A few months pass
Starting point is 01:31:05 And the money problems only get worse for him But we had to stop giving him money Since we'd already loaned him almost two grand Between the two of us Damn Come to find out he just lied about all the money troubles he was having He never told us what he was even spending the money on Aside from venomized carnages of course
Starting point is 01:31:21 By Christmas the following year He'd been fired for stealing out the register, broke up with his fiance, started working at a gelato stand, got engaged with a different woman, broke up with her too, got fired from the gelato stand, fell off the second story of our town's mall, and then dropped off the face of the earth. You're saying he died? The only physical reminder of this two-plus year of venomized friendship, even existing, is the ugly venomized carnage-eyed funco I have in my closet.
Starting point is 01:31:53 The moral of this tale is to never loan out money to friends, lest you end up venomized like me. What a bullet point. That's a really powerful story. I could see Martin Scorsese doing that. Yeah, that's harsh. Yeah, Leonardo da Vinci fucking clapping cheeks on the Funko pops or whatever. Clapping Margot Robbie's cheeks. Well, he's looking at his venomized pop vinyl.
Starting point is 01:32:21 Yeah. in the mirror. It's the only way you can nut. Yeah. Yeah. He looks in the mirror like Christian Bale
Starting point is 01:32:30 in that one film. But he's looking over. American graffiti. Yeah, American graffiti where he looks in the mirror over to the mantelpiece where the venomized carnages. And the album poster on the walls?
Starting point is 01:32:45 Chip wrecked? Yeah, chip wrecked poster. Damn, I think that's it, man. Yeah, I got a bit of a headache from all this Batman stuff, I think. Oh my God. Do you want to just talk about that a bit? No, no.
Starting point is 01:33:03 You're never going to let that shit go. I need you to change your mind. You're going to be Stephen Crowder. Archon City's best than Arkansas Island. Change my mind. It is, though. It might be the best superior against. You deploy his same fucking tactics, too.
Starting point is 01:33:20 No, I don't. Yeah, you're the Stephen Crowder of, um, If I, if that were true, I'd be moving that mic away from your mouth right now. Yeah, true. And I'd be justified in doing that, because you got some stupid fucking points. What, what's your points other than asylum came first? Justified. No, what?
Starting point is 01:33:38 Name a single other point. No, we can't do this. No, do it. We've nearly been recording for three hours straight. That's fine by me. No, you don't want to do this. Okay, next year after hours, after, um, the Dast Shranging Talk is going to be, um, which is better.
Starting point is 01:33:54 Arkham Asylum or Arkham City. The five hours. Objective discussion. Okay. No subjectivity. Stay tuned. Check out the Patreon because that's going to be up there. It's going to be nine hours.
Starting point is 01:34:11 Justified.
