Hello again, friends, and you are our friends.
And welcome back to another edition of Jim Cornett's drive-thru.
We're yelling, and it's a lot to yell about here today with this man.
Well, I'm the host, the Great Brian Last.
But here's this man, the star of the show, the leader of the cult of Corvette, Mr. Jim Cornet.
I don't know what that last note you hit there was on one of those deep ones there right at the end,
but it triggered your sound filtered.
to where we don't recognize this
is a goddamn noise that
a human ear should want to hear, so we'll just
filter that, that's where that
was all over the place. My God, man, are you
intoxicated? Unlike you're singing, Patty LaBelle,
get out of here, you hitting notes that don't exist, get out of here.
Who level who say, I'm in qua, sas,
you see, you see? See, I'm so good with it.
Sounds like a saskwash singing.
That's right, that's the, that's a
bigfoot national anthem.
Patty Bigfoot LaBelle.
She comes out in a furry coat and the big floppy feet, and she says,
I don't know what does Bigfoot say?
Bigfoot say you walking all over Brian's keyboard.
That's what it sounded like.
That's not nice.
Come on now.
At least Jerry Lee Lewis could play the piano with his ass.
What are you trying to do?
I haven't tried it with my ass, and I'm not going to do that because it.
Well, it's, it sounds like that noise comes out of your ass, so I,
I'm just, hey, all right, I'm not taking a lot seriously today
because not only have I had to watch some of the most polarizing
and polar opposite wrestling on the face of this planet from pole to pole,
but also I've been back to my physician, Brian, I'm an old man,
and I've been back to my physician to find out why my ear won't unstop
for good or even for bad, why it won't unstop.
And also he's still telling me,
need to get off the, the Recy Cups.
I'm going to take some of that advice.
But considering the reports I hear from all quarters of people my age,
hey, Doc, my ears stopped up.
That's, I'll take that.
And I'm getting the Medicare.
Did I, I've told the people about this a couple of shows ago,
or did I?
Or did I just tell you in a fit of peak?
It may have been all fair.
I'm, well, it can't, it's not going to be a secret,
because God's goddamn public records
that I'll be 65 years of age
this September
and I'm signing up for the Medicare.
So that means that the government
will send somebody to my house.
Oh, hey, not, not, nah.
This, I understand this means
the government will send someone to my house
to clean out my ear for me
and not charge me for it.
That's what Medicare, right?
Or give you a proctological example,
or whatever the case may be.
You don't have to pay for this shit anymore.
I've paid a long time.
I've paid through the ass for a lot of fucking procedures for the few that I've had on my
ass.
All of the money has run out the ass.
It just, I haven't spent a lot on having it pumped back up there.
This is your program.
This has been ass talk.
Well, I'm just, I'm, Brian, I'm having to, haven't admit that, you know, father
time is creeping up on me, tick-tock, tick-tock,
shorter of breath and one day closer to death.
How do I sound for a man who's about to fall into pieces and turn to dust?
Again, you sound fine, you sound like you have lots of spirit and many more years in front of you.
I'll be a spirit soon.
It'll probably tell me now next I've got leprosy.
I don't know what's going on.
you know what here's what we can do in the time we have left brian you and i you may be a year or two
longer than i but all of us out there around the world in these times where everything is just the
shits do something undeniably good for people who deserve it regardless of who they are or
what they may do what their livelihoods are or whatever
or their affiliations.
Just the kids, Brian, is what I'm saying.
I mentioned on the last week's programs,
the WHA's Crusade for Children,
the, it's coming up.
My God, is it two weekends, a weekend and a half?
June 6th and 7th, how far is that
by the time we release this program?
Oh, that's a, ooh.
A little over a week.
Yeah. It's over there now.
June 6 and 7th is the Crusade for Children weekend of the Telethon.
If you are anywhere within like 125 mile radius of Louisville, Kentucky,
you will be able to watch it on television or in a variety of ways.
If you are not, you can contribute to WHAs crusade.org.
And if you go to Jim Cornett.com in the month of June,
all the sales proceeds of heroes and friends,
my book that I sell in June on the website will go to the Crusade for Children so you can get a book out of it
if you want to do it that way and your money will go to a good cause.
And as I mentioned, I guess I shouldn't mention this, but it's out there now because we talked about it last time on the program.
if all the people that hate me
will really want to
fucking stick it to me
then they can buy a copy of my book
and bankrupt me in the month of June.
That was a loophole
it may turn out to be even worse
than the loophole we found in CornyCoy.
All right, so all the people who hate Jim
who are, you know, coincidentally listening
to Jim's podcast,
this is your way of finally getting them back.
Well, you get even
spread the word, though.
Spread the word to your uninformed, unenlightened, uneducated,
dipshit friends that don't like me.
See, that should cover them.
There's a segment of the fan base that thinks that this is just so you could set up the
crusade for Corny and raise a whole bunch of money for yourself.
Well, no, because fortunately, they can't find anything wrong with me yet.
So I don't have any ailments to raise the funds for.
Although I did have that.
that Bunyan situation, but I'm just getting bigger shoes.
Anyway, so that's the month of June at Jim Cornet.com.
Heroes and Friends sales to the Crusade as well as anything.
And I've had a number of folks in all seriousness,
either email or tweet to receipts that they donated to the Crusade,
and we appreciate it.
On behalf of, I'm not an official ambassador,
but on behalf of everybody here in Louisville, we appreciate it.
And what else is going on in the news, Brian?
Well, I did want to mention something here at the top of the show,
some unfortunate news that over the last week broke.
I first saw it a little while ago, but now it's getting out.
Kali Flai Flai, Ali put out a statement.
Golden Boy Jerry Gray has passed away at the age of 62.
I don't know too much about what has happened recently.
Obviously, Jerry was someone who was a frequent guest on the 605 Super Podcast.
which introduced him to a whole new audience and raised him a lot of money for his battle with cancer.
I don't know exactly what has caused him to pass away now, but he has been very sick, obviously, for a good while.
Oh, yeah, that's been more than 10 years ago, right, that he was starting to battle cancer.
It was a little less than 10 years ago that he started appearing on the 605 Super Podcast, the famous story by Jake Roberts,
drinking his own piss, was told by Jerry Gray.
A very memorable story. The clip is still out there. Check it out.
But he is someone who came up around the same time as you and was a wrestling fan.
I first encountered him in the late 90s. He got in touch with me about getting tapes of himself.
And in trade, he sent me a show he promoted in 1988 with him against Terry Funk and
West Palm Beach. And it was great. And that's really kind of what became
his future was promoting his own shows.
Well, and Jerry, and, you know, it hits me.
He was two years younger than me.
But one of his first territories was they brought him to Mid-South when we were there in 84.
I think he came in probably summertime-ish, something like that.
And that was, I guess, one of him, because he would have only been, oh, Jesus Christ,
if I was 23-ish, he'd have been like 21.
So, but that was the first place we got to know him.
And then he was variously, he was in a lot of territories,
Crocket would end up buying, right?
Oh, hey, Jerry, how you doing?
Boom, boom, boom.
That's right.
But then as you said, you know, he was from Florida
or spent most of his life there
and ended up running, you.
you know, decent-sized independent events.
He did decent-sized independent events, usually him and the main event,
as a lot of indie promoters did when they wrestled.
And again, good stuff.
Him and Terry Funk was a great match.
Yeah.
But then where he really made some money was he became really big into fair shows,
where he was doing state fairs, and he would book out the card.
That's how he was using Jake and Hockey Talk Man and the Bushwhackers, etc., etc.
and apparently he made a lot of money in the time, you know, made good money.
Well, see, here's the thing.
That's what a lot of, by the time that this became a thing you could do,
most of the territories were out of commission, right?
But the old county fair thing, especially down south was, you know,
they'd pay $1,000 or $3,000.
Hey, $5,000, that fair's a big fair.
and the local territory would, you know, just send the ring and the boys over it.
It was a sole show, so you knew what you were getting.
But the state fairs had bigger budgets because it was the state fucking fair.
Crockett, I think got 50 grand one year from the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis.
And so they had fair board conventions.
And with Jerry being able to, you know, like go to those conventions,
and sell the thing when there
there weren't a lot of smaller promoters
that either had the wherewithal
or figured out how to do it
and the big companies didn't want to mess with it
so he had a great kind of lane there
yeah again very sad news he was in memphis at the mega maharishi
he was one of the mighty yankees tag teams and tag teams that were multiple
but the tag team in the late 80s in florida with bob cook
his longtime tag team partner.
We've got very sad news.
If anyone is not heard of Jerry Gray
or wants to learn more about him,
go through the 605 Super Podcast Archives.
We had a bunch of shows with him,
and it'll teach you a lot.
You'll learn a lot about someone you may not have heard about otherwise.
Nice guy, too.
Very nice guy.
Very sad to hear this.
But Jim, as we move on,
we have a lot of modern wrestling to cover.
Why don't we start?
No wonder it keeps raining outside.
It's just, it's pouring, the more wrestling I watch of the modern variety,
the harder it rains outside.
It's like, it's a, it's a biblical fucking prophecy come true.
Well, why don't we talk about Saturday night's main event?
An event that you and I were not looking forward to watching.
It seemed like WWE gave a B or C show to Peacock.
not a lot of star power
the fans there seem to be into it
but remember a lot of people
tweeted us because I said
well it's Fort Wayne
anything will get over right
and they're like yeah people from Fort Wayne
said yeah you're right
well let's
let's talk about Saturday night's main event
on Peacock from Saturday the 23rd of May
well and first off
we admitted outright at the start
and I'm going to watch couple of fucking matches
which I'll get into the reasons and wherewithal
all four in a second.
But again, the bigger story is
they're, this, they're,
they've gone from where Saturday night's main event
was a big deal on network television
that would expose them to a wider audience
than their normal programs, hence the name,
Saturday nights made event,
to fill in a fucking contractual commitment
like a sold show
with the fair.
Well,
oh shit,
peacock,
we got,
yeah,
let's send him
a couple
girls matches
at a tag match
and in the process,
let's hurt one of our
main event guys,
but more on that later.
This wasn't raw.
This wasn't a good
one-hour episode
of WWF superstars
back in the day of syndication,
was it?
Are they serious with this?
You know, it's weird too
Whenever we say these things
Someone will get in touch and say
Oh, you're watching the wrong show
You need to watch
You know, WWE speed
Or WWE this or that man
It's a company-wide problem
I think WWE needs to be on speed
Because they're goddamn sleepwalking through that whole just
I'm going to be curious what the numbers are
Whatever numbers streaming numbers come out
Because this having three women's matches
And no main event male talent
I can't imagine
this did one of the better numbers.
So I'm curious if anything comes out.
Well, Fort Wayne, they did have a nice crowd that, you know,
was there to cheer everything at the old Fort Wayne Coliseum.
And I saw, because they had Smackdown Friday night in Lexington, Kentucky,
before the Saturday night in Fort Wayne.
And they said, well, they weren't selling as many tickets as the last time they were there,
whatever, in Lexington.
But somebody said, but the Saturday night's main event is only four hours away.
Nobody, and it's, I challenge you to do it in four hours, especially in the weather this week,
but I guarantee, God damn to you, nobody from Lexington, Kentucky said,
let's skip going to Rupp Arena and go to fucking Fort Wayne.
anyway
Ria Ripley Alexa Bliss
and Charlotte Flair against
Jade Cargill, Mia Yom, and
K Fabe
I believe I warned everyone
at the top of the
conversation when this started
I was not particularly
planning on watching this
and I fulfilled
my obligation or prophecy
but
I saw the finish
so that I could at least figure out
who won this thing.
And what I saw was Ria and Charlotte laid out the heel stooges
and all three of the baby faces,
gotten a big hug and smile and et cetera with their backs turned
to the only member of the heel team that'd be worth a shit to begin with.
And she just blasted them from behind
and hit her finish on Rea Ripley, one, two, three.
So the baby faces are all stupid and were outsmarted by the heel in 17 minutes.
Now, is there any detail I missed in there you'd like to fill in?
No, not particularly, no.
They've made me care about Ria Rippie.
I've heard about her so much less.
I don't know, remember her name.
You know what?
You know who, boy, if he's still around, if they could get as her manager, Rodney Allen Rippey.
Anyway, I don't know what that would do,
but what I was going to say is,
I'm kind of bored with Rhea right now.
She doesn't have an edge anymore.
She was partners with one of your favorite wrestlers forever,
but she was also opposing her other,
your favorite wrestlers, other hench women forever.
She's hugged and kissed with Alexa and,
She's filled with human emotions.
No.
We wanted to see the fucking action movie star, Ria Bloody Ripley,
where you could imagine her drawing the sword from the scabbard
and slaying the dragons in the medieval fucking castle and blah, blah, blah.
Instead of, oh, I love everyone, and I'll miss you and carry on.
the fuck is this
by the way it sounds like thunder over Louisville the banging and whatever's
I know but I guess because I boy I tell you what I'm fired up today as
Troy Graham would say I'm fired up and ready to go moving scooting boogie-woogie
but yeah that was that match
all right well there were four more big matches on this show let's see
yes there was more than a minute of any of them
uh well I tried to
and then they wouldn't let me.
Remember, I told you,
I will watch Becky Lynch and old Saul Ruka.
Because I want, okay, everybody's making over Saul.
She's just swell.
So I want to say, here we go.
This will be a main event match with the main event opponent,
single match, none of this multiple person, Tom Foolery.
Let's get down to the beat of the matter.
and see how Saul can go.
She might
can go, but she can't go long
because they only get with three minutes.
The one fucking girls matches.
I'm going to watch it.
I'm going to sit down.
I got my pin out.
I'm going to break her down like she's in wrestling school.
What the fuck in the way.
I saw an interview
that they excerpted on the interwebs with Saul
where she said on some
in some statement, some program somewhere,
when she got called by the WWE recruiters.
So now they've got recruiters
that are just out feeling around for people.
Maybe I guess WWE having recruiters feeling around for people
may not be the best way to phrase it
in this modern environment.
Hi, we see you're an athlete
and may not have a direction in life.
Can we point you over here where we'll pay you up?
Can we feel you?
Can we?
How would you like to move to Florida?
But anyway, when they called her, she thought it was UFC.
She thought it was some kind of fighting fight.
She didn't actually know not only a professional wrestling.
She didn't know what WWE was.
And then when she found out, she was, oh, well, this is cool.
I'll just do this.
Uh, anyway, so they kind of, Becky jump started it with getting on Saul and then arguing with the referee so that Saul could get back up and Decker and then they rang the bells.
I'm not sure why they did that.
But Saul beat up Becky.
She's looking good.
Sometimes a time or two, she did a flip just to do it.
And again, I'm not trying to be the cranky old man.
yelling at the cumulus nimbai,
I'm saying that if it, yes, I understand that if she can do a good flip
that will lead into the momentum of something
or get her out of a predicament or whatever,
but it looked like every once in a while she'd just throw in a roundoff
just for the hell of it.
But they did a couple of minutes of stuff.
She went for the flip out of the buckle.
what do they call the
the Saul snatcher?
That's it.
And
somehow she had just done something
to Becky
where Becky bent over
toward the turnbuckle
as you have to do
to receive this move, right?
So it's another
it's another one of
fucking Bandito's
German suplexes
where the guys got to assume
the I'm being arrested
or fucked in the ass position
and remained steady and rigid
while, so same thing, you got to turn over
or bend over and look at the turnbub.
And then Saul went to do the thing,
but the idea that was that Becky would pull the referee
in where she was,
and one would think that would mean
that the referee would take the Saul snatcher.
Somehow,
now Saul's legs ended up whacking the back of the referee and the head in some fashion.
I don't know,
because I didn't have slow-mo on this goddamn streaming bullshit.
So I don't know how this was fucked up.
I did watch it three or four times,
and that's the best approximation I can give of what they were trying to do.
am I being too hard on this move
or was it obvious to even to the untrained eye Brian
not to insinuate that your eyes are stupid or anything
if they're not housebroken
but for someone not specifically watching
as if they were critiquing a wrestling school match
this still looked fucked up didn't it
it did and you're not being too hard on it
you were when you first started critiquing it
when you first saw it.
And since that time, she's been on the main roster
and it appears that she
is having an issue
with the timing
because if you think about it,
it's a move that works great in a training class
and developmental.
But does it make a lot of sense
and beyond, if you get past logic
because logic doesn't even apply to wrestling nowadays,
it's a...
It's hard to trade.
It's a crapshoot to hit it.
I mean, the best person on the...
The planet couldn't hit it 100% of the time.
So now you have a finish that's pretty intricate.
Like you said, someone has to be in a certain position.
I couldn't tell was she trying to hit Becky, or was she supposed to hit the referee by mistake?
Oh, she was definitely supposed to hit the referee by mistake because the referee fucking disqualified her for it.
That's the thing.
She just kind of landed on her.
the announcer even said an attempted soul snatcher
and then the referee called disqualification
it was in three and a half minutes
so what the we have to endure these
20 minute EO Sky classics
but when I'm trying to watch this girl
she botches her deal
they go three and a half minutes and she botches her one deal
And then Becky gave her three manhandle slams.
I'm sure that was probably a shoot.
Just like, God damn it.
What'd you do that for?
No, I'm kidding.
But it came up recently.
I think we talked about it on the air.
Yeah, we did.
It was by Tiffany Stratton getting the yips,
or Tiffany Stratton lately not looking as smooth as she used to.
And there is that problem, I would think,
where you have people
who were not wrestling fans,
not interested in wrestling.
Because I think Tiffany Strident
was the same kind of thing.
She was an athlete.
Yeah.
And they recruited her.
Well, and don't say it that way.
Like, three people and a woman,
you can be an athlete
to still be interested in wrestling
or vice versa.
The point is no,
no background
in knowing the product enough
to know what it's supposed to look like.
And kind of,
much less the intricacies
of how and why things are done,
just have you watched enough wrestling
where you kind of know what it's supposed to look like?
Right.
That helps.
Right.
Because you could be a collegiate athlete,
but you know,
you see the difference between a collegiate athlete
and a Dax Harwood, for instance,
someone who just watches wrestling or watched wrestling
and they know where to be and what to do.
There is some of that lacking
from what we've seen,
especially the women who have come up from NXT,
who look good in a,
setting where they're working with someone they're practicing with, in front of the coaches
who coach them.
I mean, it's all a training school on TV.
But the main roster is a different thing, especially when you're working with people who've
been around for a while or people who did not come in from the WWE system.
And that's...
Now, unfortunately, the problem is there are sometimes people who have been in other places
in wrestling, but who have a good aptitude on how to learn and what to do and what not to do
are sometimes going to lap the trainees in NXT that have come in with these outstanding
athletic backgrounds, but don't know shit from Apple Butter about wrestling or whether it's real
fighting or not.
And I'm sure Sean Michaels is encouraging them all to be creative.
down there.
But what
we and OVW
or Danny Davis
and I specifically in Rip Rogers
concentrated on
was getting them ready
to do
safely as possibly
a fucking match
with any style opponent
in any situation
without hurting anyone
or hurting themselves
while giving a wonderful
performance, but none of it involved furniture and fucking special effects and, et cetera,
that they expect these gymnasts to adapt to wrestling while they're putting them in
elimination chambers and or having them climb ladders and dive through tables.
And it's just gotten ridiculous.
So anyway, but we still don't.
We still don't know anything about Saul.
Someone sent in a thing the other day.
Oh, man, from the cult of her, they're like, I can't tell, I'm paraphrasing, is she a 20s surfer girl?
Is she a 30s single mom?
Is she a 40s yoga woman?
Like, I can't tell.
It was the funniest thing.
Yoga woman, that could be a gimmick.
She's got charisma.
There is something there, but, you know, you wonder what would happen if they say.
said, all right, call it tonight in the ring.
What would happen? Would spark shoot out of her head?
Or, you know, what would happen if any of these people had to go out there and do something
that wasn't rehearsed or wasn't, you know, a simple dance step that they practiced?
And, you know, now that you bring that up and the thought strikes me, I don't know whether
I've made this plane before or not. But when we talked about O.V.
wrestling classes and then the house shows and TVs and etc.
Even at TV, we would get in the ring and go over a finish for the purposes of showing
them, A, how the camera can get their faces because we all had like a three camera shoot.
So we had to show them here.
Here's where you need to be positioned.
So when you do these things so we can shoot it with the camera and also so you don't see
dick there running out because there's only the one fucking side they make the entrance blah blah blah
but there were no match rehearsals of matches per se guys learned how to do shit in class
guys then went to small house shows st terese jim the derby park expo five flea market
and they called spots in the ring based on what they had learned
and got good at shit,
and then they did it on television.
But I don't know except for if we did a walkthrough
with like the radio DJs that time
or whatever the fuck,
there was not an actual match ever in OVW rehearsed
from start to finish in any kind of practice or class or whatever.
I gave him the finishes at TV,
the night of.
They didn't have time to fucking rehearse
as part of it.
Well, Jim, three more big matches
on this medium-sized
Saturday night's main event.
Yes, Saturday night's
middle card.
So what did you think of Penta
and Ethan Page?
Oh, that means you didn't watch it.
I thought it was all right. You know what? I like Ethan Page.
I like Ethan Page. I think
he's been a breath of fresh air
in a lot of the segments.
He's a little too goofy at times,
but, you know, that's what WWE likes.
He really kissed Sean Michael's ass
in that Sean Michael's documentary.
But I think Ethan Page is actually pretty good.
Penta is all right.
I watched a match thinking Ethan Page
should get the title here,
really get him over coming in,
and now Penta won.
It was all right.
It was all right.
Well, that's the thing.
They're just all right.
Pinta is just all right with me
And Paige is just all right with me too
And they're just all right with me
And I don't have time to just be all right
If I'm going to watch all this fucking wrestling
Ethan Page ain't going to be in the fucking main events
The Papers and I just
I think Pinta's just still kind of sloppy
And I'm not really that particularly interested
Because he never cuts a promo
I don't even know what the motherfucker looks like
and uh what that doesn't matter he's a mass wrestler
he's just an unknown he's just an unknown
he's just an unknown fucker running around doing fucking flips uh
but having said all that no um yeah
that's uh you know they're fine i just i got too much wrestling to watch in too
little time i'm getting old
I got to spend some time getting ready,
getting my fares in order for Medicare.
And I picked up some extra time on the next match.
What did you think of Nia,
Jacks, and Lash Leroux against Bree and Page?
I picked up some time here myself.
Uh-huh.
You know, again, there's a lot of wrestling this weekend,
and the more I thought about it, the more I did not care at all about this match.
And then I started really thinking about it.
And I said, there's no way Jim's going to watch this.
So it takes all the fun out of it because if I have anything fun to talk about from this match,
it'll be talking to a wall because he's not going to watch it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And here's some people out there are going to say,
goddamn they get paid to watch it.
No, we don't get paid to watch any goddamn thing.
We get paid to talk about a variety of shit.
And believe me, that's what more normally we talk.
talk about is a variety of shit.
But the actual minutia
down to match by match by match,
if you broke, I will be glad to
contribute my, the
gross that I will generate off
of that particular match talking about it.
Back to the fucking
crusade for children, anybody else
if I don't have to watch that match.
So if somebody send me that figure, I'll know
what to write to check.
But of course, that sets it up for one more
match, only one more match, a main event.
There's a big test.
Will Jim watch the last match, or
did Jim skip the last match because
it's women and he hates women?
No, the last match wasn't women.
What are you thinking about?
Who was the last match? Jesus Christ,
it depends on...
I mean, I know Logan Paul's...
Oh, it was the tag match. Oh, it was the goddamn
tag match. Let me take that back, ladies
and gentlemen, these aren't women,
and women certainly weren't interested in this match,
but it was the big tag team match.
Logan Paul and Austin Theory versus the street prophets.
Why wouldn't the women be interested in this?
They're sexy men, Brian?
They're sexy.
They're too sexy for their tights, too sexy for their clothes.
Too sexy for their tries.
Anyhow, I wanted to watch this because Logan Paul at Austin Theory with Paul,
Paul E. Danger Heyman are the tag team champions.
And despite this snake bit stable going into this, I was thinking, well, we got Paul's here.
We got theories here.
Now, Braun's back, and we'll get Bronson Reed back to go.
Maybe we'll still have this little run of alleged kind of a four horseman type of thing put together here, right?
with old Paulie behind it as the Oracle,
and they got to wrestle a street profits,
and they're trying to revamp their tag team division,
which Montez Ford looks great physically.
I think Dawkins looks like an indie-looking guy
with ridiculous baggy gear on.
It looks cool when Ford is wearing those gold LeMay pants,
and he's got the great physique
and he's doing the dives
and all this stuff
and Dawkins looks
kind of like the fucking nephew
of goddamn
what was his name
Francis Ford Flippala
the guy that fell over the top rope
of
Flop Dollar
Flop Dollar
Flopla
Yeah whatever is
Flub Dollar's nephew here
is Dawkins
and the shit looks clownish
and even though it's the same material
on him it looks clownish and baggy
but the shorts,
I don't see this team.
I think Ford needs to be a fucking singles guy
with the athleticism he's got
and the fucking look he's got
and I think he needs to be
a baby face single
and I don't know what you do with the other guy.
Austin theory and Logan Paul,
I'm going to read what I was writing at the time.
With the benefit of hindsight,
I would have been writing different shit,
but they look tremendous physically.
They look good as a tag team,
as a wrestling team.
Theory has the fucking all the basics
and the little things down
and the bumping and the feeding and the positioning.
Paul's got the fucking personality
and he's athletically great,
even if he's green in terms of experience.
Where you've got, whether everybody wants to knock him or not,
you can go out there and call it with theory.
I'm positive.
And he'll do whatever or he'll make adjustments.
And he can help Logan Paul,
but Paul's the guy's got the heat and the attention.
But they look like a good athletic team together.
And with an old school manager like Paul E,
you've got a main event tag team.
there. And you need them to be working against guys who are either main
event singles that have come together or who are a new team that,
not a team that they've seen for however many years, the profits have been there
and they've got new outfits and all we're pushing them again. Do you see what I'm
saying, Brian, that if they're going to revamp, they can't just revamp one of the
teams from their previous vamping before they've reaffed.
revamped it.
Well, they don't have the cups dropping from the ceiling anymore, so they've been revamped
slightly.
Well, that's what I've said.
They need to be new.
I would buy Ford turning on fucking, or Dawkins turning on Ford rather, because he's
fucking jealous of him and being a heel, and then we're going to program against each other.
I don't know.
But nevertheless, the people have seen them as the middle of the card like all
the other interchangeable tag teams they had with,
from the Vikings to the guns to the Zabodaz.
Some different.
Ford again, good baby face though.
And I think that probably Logan Paul and Austin theory
against two baby faces that were in the business before the WWE
to go what we were talking with earlier,
or talking about earlier,
would be a great match.
If, because they, Logan Paul can do the shit, theory, I'm pretty sure knows it already.
Against like L.A. Knight and Punk, they could have just a tag match that would tear the
fucking house down because they wouldn't just be doing W.W.E. style shit. They'd be doing
wrestling. And anyway, Paul in theory and, you know, Paul together,
remind me of a
not only just me in the
midnight, but Heenan and a couple
of athletic guys like
Bachwinkle and Stevens
for fuck's sake.
But nevertheless,
they got heat on Dawkins.
It was kind of like beating
on a used mattress.
He just kind of
sells there.
And then
I can't even remember what he did.
I wrote
Dawkins hit ridiculously contrived double team on,
or not double team, but a double move on Paul and theory
and gave Ford an iceberg tag.
Ford made a nice comeback, and then boom, they went back and forth.
And then as Ford was, you know, Ford, again,
he does the athletic shit, he gets height off the top.
Who was the guy in AEW? Mark Quinn.
If Mark Quinn had suddenly grown up, got a good physique,
and was focused on in a kind of a professional territory
that he would look like Montez-Fort.
He's like the, Javan is different in the way that
Javan is so not frail, but thin,
and but does the high-flying shit and the blah, blah, blah,
he should be the one to do that stuff forward in his own way
because he's got the guy, he's got the physique,
and he's got a different kind of look.
He can do limited amounts of this shit as well as wrestle,
and he can be at his own fucking slot there.
I don't see him in this team.
Nevertheless, Braun ran out.
out and tried to spear Ford, but he leapfrogged him and Dawkins tossed him over the desk.
And then they threw theory in the ring and splashed him, but Paul put his leg on the ropes at the
two count. And then Ford chased Paul E, but Logan Paul hit Ford with the knuckles. And in theory,
pending him one, two, three. And then Braun
speared both of the baby faces. So
they put them over in the match, obviously, the
street profits, they put them over, and they were there
so Braun could get some heat. But in the process
somehow, one of these, I don't know, I guess it was
probably Ford doing a dive, because he did most
of them, although they may have all contributed to it,
but Logan Paul ended up with a torn bicep out of this.
And now he's going to be out for several months.
They tried to put together the four horsemen
and they've all gone to the glue factory.
Think about it, Seth, boom, down,
Braun, boom, down.
Reed, boom, down.
Now, Logan, Paul, boom, down.
What is it?
the flying french fried titney fuck brian is happening to these people either haman or theory or next
unless haman has a cholesterol induced heart issue i'm pretty sure he's safe from injury and i must admit
i think he is losing weight i'm detecting it he is losing at least in his face maybe he's
Can you just have your face drained?
I guess they vacuum like liposuction on his jowls.
I'm asking you, do you and have you heard about this?
I don't know anything about jowl liposuction, liposuction.
No, I do not.
You haven't checked into it yet?
I haven't.
If I were word to the wise, but nevertheless.
You would think if he was going to do that, maybe he would just fly to turkey and get the hair transplant.
Wouldn't it be funny if Hayman just all of a sudden came out with like a full head of hair?
Oh, God damn it.
Oh, come on.
You know what?
You know what?
Okay.
I've never seen it.
I hear, you know what?
Now I've got to gimmick, Brian, because we've been wondering how to, how to put the cherry on top of the icing on the cake or whatever the phrase is for the Chernobyl Cherub, Mason Rook's gimmick.
Whereas he's an 11-year-old child that's been mutated from Chernobyl Russia.
He's got to, that's the last piece of the puzzle.
besides the Geiger counter entrance
at the green glowing lighting
and all that stuff we talked about the other day,
he signs up with Heyman.
And Heyman, from being next to him on the promos
and coming to ringside with him,
gets radioactive and starts mutating
and starts growing hair.
And ends up not only does he grow a full head of hair,
but he ends up looking like Lon Chaney Jr. and the wolfman.
So you've got Mason Rook, the Chernobyl Cherub, managed by Paul Wolfman Heyman.
I was just thinking like a beetle wig, like a mop top.
I think we've got to go facial hair all the way around.
Somehow I said Heyman and a wig and you went, Wolfman, you were covered in hair.
Well, I'm thinking now because it's radiation, you wouldn't be able to control it.
You could sell like many radiation meters at the merch stand.
The Geiger counter, yes.
That could be the hottest Christmas toy for all the kids.
And they could make them real Geiger counters.
We can see how many people's fucking houses are radioactive these days.
Since we've fucked all the atmosphere and buried all this shit in the ground.
Say there?
That's what HHG slipped forward with ECW.
Heyman, Hamon, Geiger.
All right.
So the point is that was Saturday night's main event.
And to do that, to fulfill that contractual obligation with Peacock,
now they've lost Logan Paul,
who was of the whole group was still probably the guy you could put in a money match
that would mean the most right now and now he's down.
What the fuck?
And a team I liked.
Meanwhile, Darby Allen just goes on and on.
Just fucking hit him with a battleship,
blow him up with a hand grenade.
He'll be back to work the next day.
We get a goddamn main event star in this fucking place.
Whosh!
Gone with the wind.
Tony Conch you do a pay-per-view where Darby gets a body scan.
You just get to see what he's done to himself.
I'm so curious.
because he shows up again every show
that he just, there's some kind of spot
where you're like, oh my God, he's dead.
Oh, he's not dead.
Oh, he's moving around.
Oh, he seems to be all right.
He just won.
Yep.
But here's the thing.
Is it a body scan of what he's done to himself
or should they scan his body
to determine what's correct about it
that this can be done?
Is he some kind of mutant?
Is he from Chernobyl?
Well, we will get to the mutants of AEW shortly, but that was Saturday night's main event.
Certainly was.
And Jim, with that, we shall return shortly after this commercial timeout.
All right.
We're back?
Good Lord, you almost gave me a heart attack.
I told you, you don't have to call me the good Lord, but it's nice that you do.
Jim, before we get to more modern wrestling, you saw a couple things on Raw, and we have this big AEW paper view to review.
Let's have a break in between.
Let's do a little guest the program.
Is that okay with you?
Oh, there you go.
There you go.
Why don't you explain the rules while I pull these up here?
While you whip those out, I'll explain the rules.
Is it Brian is going to go through his voluminous program collection
and is going to read me a lineup from one of said programs.
And I, in my borderline mystical way,
I'm going to try to figure out the place and the year.
unless he tries to screw me around and throws me these curveballs me trying to swerve me around.
And I think more than that, in some cases we try to get you to get even more precise, the month,
and sometimes you even can get to the week.
So why don't we aim for that?
Let me start with an easy one for you, right in your wheelhouse.
Oh, in my flywheel?
I would say on a scale of one to ten, this is a one for you.
Okay, here we go.
The opening contest, Dutchman, Tell, and Pork.
chop cash versus Rick Gibson and Tommy Gilbert.
The second event, Plow Boy Frazier versus George Wagner.
The third event, the Southern Heavyweight title on the line.
Rocky Johnson versus David Schultz.
A grudge tag team match demanded by Rich in Dundee,
Phil Hickerson and Dennis Condry
with Rock Hunter
versus Bill Dundee
and Tommy Rich
and finally following an intermission
the main event
special challenge
Jerry Lawler
versus Andre the Giant
Oh okay
Well I'll go through the participants
Dutch Mantel
obviously everybody knows
Porkchop Cash
at the time was a single heel.
They were just kind of teamed with different people,
and this is the Memphis Territory, by the way.
It was kind of teamed with different people or working singles,
and then, as I believe, well, it might have been later on the next year,
but they switched him baby face,
and he was quite the gimmick baby face.
That was in 78.
This is 1977.
Ricky Gibson, obviously Robert's older brother,
Tommy Gilbert is Eddie's father,
who was a big name in the Tennessee territory
from the late 60s through the 80s.
Plowboy Frazier,
more noted to the WWF fans as Uncle Elmer,
but he'll always be Tiny Frazier to the boys in Memphis.
And this was, by the way, one of the,
I'm going to say,
five or six times ever
that Plowboy and Andre
were on the same card together. I actually
saw them and it was in Louisville
that I saw
this six-man tag match where they were
on opposite sides, Andre and Plowboy.
And there's a famous picture that
Mike Shields took and I'm thinking it may have been on
this night
of Plowboy and Andre standing next to each
other and Frazier was always
build is seven feet tall,
but he was really about 6'9,
and Andre was 7-4,
and he was really about 610 plus his afro.
So they were almost the same height.
And Vince always,
McMahon Sr., always discouraged
Andre having pictures taken
with basketball players or whatever
because he didn't want to be too close.
Anyway.
Eventually,
discouraged him from having pictures taken
in the Memphis territory.
Yes.
He never worked out.
He didn't work into Memphis territory anymore.
Plowboy working with George Wagner was gorgeous George Jr.
Because he came in and it was wild.
Actually, he had Loller, he, gorgeous George Jr.
debuted in Louisville at least.
I'm not sure what they did his first week in Memphis,
but he debuted in the main event against Luller,
for the Southern title and they had a competitive match
and ended up doing a short little program where they traded the belt
back and forth.
And from the start, gorgeous George Jr., even with the valet,
Miss Suzette had been a baby face against Lawler.
But then he switched heel and they had gotten together somehow
by the end of the year because they were all heels.
and then he turned on Lawler
when Lawler had cut the promo on him
that his father died broke and penniless
with a whiskey bottle in his back pocket
and a gutter somewhere
and George came out and cried
and said his father wasn't a drunk
and an alcoholic like Lawler said.
He was a good man.
And he becomes George Wagner
because that was gorgeous George's real last name
or real name George Wagner.
Rocky Johnson,
and the Southern champion defending against David Schultz.
This was the start of Schultz's second full year in a business,
but he had already been used in the Tennessee territory in a number of top positions
and was already a good worker and actually was a lot more, not mobile,
but when he was younger before he became the badass that he would become Dr. D
and got even bigger.
When he was like 225, 230, he was dropping these wild elbows off the top rope and all kind of shit.
But he was younger then.
Rich and Dundee in a program with Hickerson and Condry for the Southern Tag Team title,
Tommy Rich and Bill Dundee were the most popular baby face tag team.
I would say in between probably Tommy Gilbert and Eddie Marlin in 73, 74.
And then when finally Lawler and Dundee would start teaming up in 78,
Rich and Dundee were the fucking the monkeys.
They were the Tidi Bopper idols.
And Rock Hunter, for just a brief period of time,
managed Hickerson and Condry.
And I didn't never really get Rock Hunter as a manager.
Or just, you know, he had a great face.
And he'd, you know,
but he just, a little bland.
And, of course, the main event with Lawler and Andre
was the first and only singles match
that those two guys would ever have with each other,
which means that this is the Louisville Gardens
on April 5th, 1977, and you tried to get one by on me there.
Well, Jackpot.
The bell time of 8 o'clock.
April 5th, 1977, Louisville wrestling at the Louisville Gardens.
watch professional wrestling every Saturday on WDRB Channel 41 at Louisville
and get your advanced tickets at Louisville Gardens on the day of the matches.
And here's the thing.
Thinking about this just real quick,
not only was there no ticket master in those days
or no way to buy tickets online,
there weren't even any ticket outlets in Louisville.
Some cities,
the wrestling matches, they'd have, you know, sponsors where you could go into, like at Indianapolis,
it always seemed to be furniture stores or men's clothing. You can go into Ross and Babcock or Ross and
Young on whatever, Meridian Street, pick up your advanced tickets. In Louisville, the matches,
let's say, were every Tuesday night for the sake of argument, sometimes they went Sunday,
blah, blah, blah. But every Tuesday, the box office was open usually.
Monday between 9 and 5 and then 10 and 5 and Tuesday, 10 o'clock until match time.
And then when they figured out that not a lot of people came to get the tickets the day before,
sometimes because they had to pay, right, extra the ticket seller.
So they just have the tickets on sale the day of, but the night of the matches,
they would take a five-minute intermission after the first match
because advanced tickets would be on sale for next week's matches then,
and people would hit the fucking lobby,
and they would miss the second match,
getting tickets for fucking next week.
So between the people that had the first two or three rows reserved
in their names for years and years,
and then the people that bought their tickets for next week
after the first match,
then 85% of your crowd
they came by
either on Tuesday if they happen to be downtown
or they just came and bought at the door
and it was a fucking flood
try to get those people in
all right well let's go to our next program here Jim
I can see you're thrilled
this is great wrestling history but we have a long way to go
Jim the first event
Doug Gilbert
versus Renee Goulet.
Okay.
The second event, Jose Lafario
versus Tokyo Tom.
The third event,
Ivan Furpo
versus Dory Funk Jr.
The semi-final,
Ricky Romero
versus Dandy Jack Donovan
two out of three falls
45-minute time limit.
Was Vern Bottoms in his corner?
It does not say that she was there, but the main event, two out of three falls, one hour time limit.
Jake Smith and Luke Brown versus Iron Mike, which would be Iron Mike DiBiase, and Jack Kane.
Good Lord.
Okay.
Well, we are, well, first of all, let's go down to the participants.
When you said Doug Gilbert, I was meeting, well, it's another Memphis program from 10 years later.
And you said, Renee Goulet, I said, my God, he was.
have been 70.
So this was the
Doug Gilbert from the 60s,
who I think his real name was Doug Lindsay,
and Renee Goulet was the man who
wrestled as René Goulet,
then became Sergeant Jacques Goulet of the French
Foreign Legion, and then was René Goulet,
the agent for the WWF for years and years.
What do you like better, René or Jacques for him?
Oh, I guess he was a dashing young baby face
at his day,
saw him, it was him and Don Fargo
was the Legionnaires for Bruiser.
And this is the greatest thing.
He had the accent for real, right?
He's the ever, the clown is down.
So, and with the French foreign Legion outfit on and everything,
and the riding crop, oh, yeah.
Jose Lothario and Tokyo Tom,
Jose, obviously, people know is Sean Michaels' trainer
and the guy that he ignored on television for that run,
Jose was a huge baby face in the southwestern states.
And this was probably still before the majority of the best of his runs in Houston and places like that.
Tokyo Tom was a guy who worked this territory that I don't know much about.
Dory Jr., being on the car,
against Ivan Furpo.
And I'm trying to think, did they, I know that Pampero Furpo worked under a couple of different names,
but the timeline doesn't add up unless they just changed his gimmick when he was already
kind of established, or is this a, is this a, a member of the Furpo family, but it ain't Pampero?
or you're not going to tell.
I'm not going to answer that. No, I'm not going to answer that.
Well, all right.
Ricky Romero was the most popular
baby face in the
West Texas territory of Amarillo,
which this is where we're at,
that wasn't a member of the Funk family.
And Dandy Jack Donovan,
of course,
famous for a fucking halfway shoot
in Louisville with Tojo Yamamoto
when he got pissed that ended up with him
getting a shit kicked out of him,
a TV station,
in Nashville the next day.
And Iron Mike DiBiase, Ted's father, still alive, with Jack Kane, who was Dory Sr's brother-in-law,
correct?
Am I getting the relationship right?
I think.
And who didn't, he didn't really wrestle any place else, I don't think, but there was a period of time
where he went to be the Booker for the Sheik
and then ended up trying to
take the Detroit territory away
and some of the talent and run opposition or whatever.
And Jake Smith and Luke Brown,
obviously Grizzly Smith and Luke Brown
were the Kentuckians.
And because that's the thing is,
this is the Amarillo territory,
and I'm just going to say Amarillo,
because it could be Lubbock,
but probably not.
but I can't see
this would have
I would say this would be like
say 1960s or 67
but I don't know that Ivan Furpo would be
or Pampiro Furpo would be Ivan Furpo then
but I'm going to say Amarillo in 1966
close
Lubbock Texas
Oh god damn it all right
Park Coliseum Fairgrounds
December 1st
1965.
Wrestling every Wednesday night at 8.30 p.m.
Hold program tickets for a drawing and intermission.
14 pound farm pack ham
to be given away tonight.
Let me open this up here.
So I was basically one month and 70 miles off.
Son of a gun.
The box office is open every Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
This gives an opportunity to those wishing to purchase tickets in advance.
All ticket prices, $1, $150, and $2 are for sale every Wednesday afternoon.
Well, we just talked about that with Louisville, how they handled advanced tickets.
Here's how they did it in Lubbock.
As I turned to pay.
Yes, that was how they did that.
World champion, World champion Lucez, North American champion Ricky Romero,
North American tag team champions are Dory Fung Jr. and Ricky Romero.
Wahoo McDaniel completing successful football season will return to wrestling.
So that's on the horizon.
And then also...
Yeah, Wahoo was still playing football at that point.
During the football season, he'd wrestle off season.
When we went to, it wasn't Lubbock, it was Midland, I believe.
Midland or Odessa, it's a twin cities, one or the other.
but we were there for a show one time for WCW and Wahu was one of the agents
and a guy brought a newspaper and showed it to just one of the fans showed it to
Wahoo it was a story of when he was a standout high school football star there at
Midland Odessa or whatever school they had and then at the bottom of the page where
he's the headline and talking about
All of his football exploits.
There's an ad appearing live, so-and-so, opening act Elvis Presley.
Crazy, wow.
He was like, I was bigger than Elvis.
You asked about Tokyo, Tom.
It's Ray Urbano, the original Great Kabuki.
Oh, okay.
I truthfully did not know which Tom was from Tokyo there.
Fritz von Erick sends a message to Tokyo Tom.
Fritz von Erich, by the way, spelled E-R-I-C-K,
the man that has been so outstanding with his unique claw hold
has informed your promoter that he has taken the only worthwhile hold
in all the Oriental Science of Combat
and perfected it as no one else in the world.
He is out to prove it by defeating every Japanese wrestler he can fine,
F-I-N-E, every Japanese.
They meant well.
I mean, it's a good story.
They just can't spell it.
He wants Tokyo Tom in the Lubbock ring.
And by the way, the match between Doug Gilbert and Renee Goulet, since there was no decision
in their match last week, these two returned to face each other again.
The winner will be the one chosen to meet the undefeated lawman here next week.
The lawman in Lubbock, Texas.
This must be early on when he was wrestling, I guess.
Don the lawman Slatton so named because he had the bail bonds place out there and ran
What was his town?
Shit.
Don's Amarer, not Amarine, Abilene, Abilene.
Aberdeen.
Abilene.
Not Aberdeen.
He wasn't Scottish.
Abilene, Abilene, the prettiest town we ever seen.
He tried to steal Harley Race's title in Abilene.
Go ahead.
All right, Jim, our next program here.
Interesting card.
Let's try to go for some accuracy.
Uh-oh.
The Missing Link
versus Mike Reed.
Junkyard Dog
versus Kamala
for the American tag title.
I'll just name it.
The champions
Brian Adias and Iceman King Parsons
versus Super Destroyer number one
and number two.
Sheik Akbar
versus Iceman.
Man King Parsons.
A 10-minute intermission
followed by
Buddy Roberts, Michael
Hayes, and Terry Gordy
versus
Kevin, David, and Kerry
von Eric. Kevin
crossed out Mike Ritten in.
Mike Filbord. Oh, my
God. Black Gordman
versus Johnny Mantell.
Two more matches.
Two more?
Rick Flair.
versus Mike Von Erick.
To win, world champion Rick Flair must defeat Mike in 10 minutes
and remain unpinned himself,
followed by another intermission for 15 minutes,
and finally, for the vacant American heavyweight championship,
in a caged ring.
Chris Adams versus gorgeous Jim Garvin.
Oh, good Lord.
Well, we are in the vicinity of Dallas, Texas, obviously.
And just going down the card, missing link was Dewey Robertson,
but that was his best run.
Dewey Robertson had been a wrestler for 20 years when he became the link,
and that's what got him over.
Y.D.
would be appearing on loan from Mid-South Wrestling,
as would possibly Kamala at this point as well.
The American tag team title, Brian Adias, of course,
best known for going to high school with Devon Erics
and Iceman Parsons against the Super Destroyers
who were, that was Scott and Biller when at that time, right?
I believe so.
We talked about how underrated both those guys were.
but then Akbar working with Parsons,
I think Akbar was probably managing the Super Ds at that point in time
and there's some type of gimmick going on where, you know,
Akbar has to get in the ring with Parsons,
but after the tag match or whatever,
basically, as we talked about,
Dallas didn't mind asking a motherfucker to work twice and one night.
Even on the Texas Stadium shows,
it was like, oh, yeah, you'll have this match.
And then there's a 10-man tag or whatever the fuck.
And then you're working with Rick Flair.
Yes, and you're also working with Mike Reed.
The Freebirds against the Von Erick's with Kevin crossed out and Mike put in,
indicates that this is the 83 or 84 time period.
And because Mike,
Mike substituted in that
and then was also working with
Flair and he must
win in 10 minutes. That was a deal
that they were doing where they were
trying to introduce Mike.
It is palatable a way as possible.
But I say, okay, we know that Flair
could beat him eventually, but can he beat him that
quick, right? That type of thing.
And Gordman and Johnny Mantell
bless him, we're there to
give somebody a breath.
And then Chris Adams and Garvin had a hot deal going on at that point in time.
That's when Adams was still a baby face.
So based on when they introduced Mike, I think this is 1984.
And I think it's early on in the year.
It sounds like it would be a reunion arena card.
But then also, this may have been a Star Wars thing they did at the Tarrant County Convention Center.
But maybe was it, well, but they wouldn't have done a reunion arena early in 84.
It would have been either Thanksgiving Christmas 83.
Was this Thanksgiving 1983 at reunion arena?
Oh, man, you talked yourself out of this.
Did I?
That's when Mike Vinerd debuted, I believe, was Thanksgiving.
This was Monday, January 30th,
1984, 8 p.m.
Tarrant County Convention Center,
World Class Wrestling Star Wars.
Son of a bitch.
They did that in January.
I was on the 1985 version.
What do you think about the fact,
let's talk about Rick Flair and Mike Von Erick,
because Rick Flair is one of the more popular.
Popular is not the right word,
but when you think about the Von Erics
and feuds and opponents,
He wrestled every one of them.
Yeah.
It's one thing when it's Kerry.
It's one thing, David, one thing, Kevin.
You could point to, I guess, David early success in St. Louis over Harley Race when David was very skinny.
But what was Flair thinking coming into town being told?
You have to work with Mike.
And by the way, the result is written in draw.
And you're not beating Mike, by the way.
You have to work with Mike who's been wrestling two months and you can't win.
You're the NWA World Champion.
He knew.
He knew.
He respected the, you know,
Fritz's business and the other boys in terms of the money they'd drawn.
He didn't respect their, you know, personal habits or sometimes the ordeal you had to go through to work with one or more of them.
And remember, this was a much more professional version of Flair that we might get these days back then to begin with.
But he knew what the.
deal was and
you know
go 10 minutes on the big
show with you know Mike and
get a giant payoff and
that's the way it's going to be
it it
everybody knew from the time
I won't say ever not the fans but everybody
in the business knew
at the time that Mike debuted
kind of what his ceiling was going to be
and that he was going to be there
as long as the Von Erics were there in Dallas,
but that he wasn't going to be a commodity
that they could market to other territories,
like Kerry had gone and David had gone and Kevin had gone.
But Flair went in, so, okay, this is part of the deal.
I got to help the Dallas office, so I'll do this.
Well, Jim, let's go to our next one.
By the way, that's one of the rare programs
because there's only a limited period of time where David was alive
and Mike was active.
So it was a very short period of time
where he had all four
of the Von Era kids
on the same shows
or at least build
to be on the same shows.
Jim, this next program,
the opening match,
Frank Hickey,
260 out of Chicago.
Oh, good Lord.
Versus Charlie Lay.
Or actually, excuse me,
Charlie Loy,
230, Knoxville, Tennessee.
Well, it's a, it's lay.
That's a,
uh,
a typo.
Dynamite Lay is who it was to his friends.
And a special event, Jim Andre Drap, 225 from France,
versus Evan Marion, 216, Montreal, Canada.
A five-minute intermission, followed by a tag team match,
Taro Miyaki, and Tojo Yamamoto, from Japan,
versus Haystacks Calhoun and Ray Vilmer.
A 10-minute intermission, and finally, the main event, a return match.
No time limit.
No disqualification.
Masks and title at stake.
Assassin number one and assassin number two
versus Eddie Graham and Dick Steinborn.
Oh.
Good Lord.
All righty.
Tojo being on the card almost,
almost has to put it in the Tennessee territory,
but some of the other things don't stack up in that,
well, Frank Spaceman Hickey was, of course,
legendary in the wrestling business for being one of those characters.
and he's the one that used to live at the wigwam village
on the side of Interstate 65 down in
near Cave City, Kentucky that the boys would go visit him.
He had all of his old costumes from the days he was on the Dumont network
on mannequins in his little fucking wigwam room.
Charlie Lay, Dynamite Lay, was a big baby face
and a local hero in the Knoxville territory.
Andre Drap was a baby face with, I believe, as I remember, a nice physique that worked the southern territories.
I don't know who the fuck Evan Marion was.
Haystacks Calhoun and Ray Vilmer as a tag team is odd.
Taromayaki and Tojo worked as a team in the Tennessee Territory, Memphis.
Birmingham, Chattanooga, these type of places.
But Tojo didn't come into Tennessee until 62, 63.
Haystacks Calhoun worked, well, in and out.
Eddie Graham and Dick Steinborn as champions against the assassins.
That doesn't necessarily have to be Jody Hamilton and Tom Renesto,
if this is the Tennessee territory
because Nick could have just made some up.
But Graham worked
mid-60s in the Tennessee territory,
especially the Memphis end,
but he had Sam Steamboat as his partner,
not Dick Steinborn.
Is this, I'm just going to take a wild poke
with a fucking stick,
1965 in Birmingham, Alabama.
That's a wild.
Polk. Jim, it's Friday, March 31st, 1962.
Atlanta, Georgia.
Son of a bitch!
I thought you would have gone with Florida. That's why I was doing this one.
I thought it was an interesting way to throw you off a little bit.
I would not have put Tojo on a card nor Frank Spaceman Icky.
Now, I should have paid more attention to the main event, but I fucking went down
the Eddie Graham mid-60s Tennessee race.
rabbit hole.
Oh, well, so I was
180 miles and three years off.
Flash,
Freddie Blassie may be on his way
to Atlanta sometime in the spring.
Don Curtis,
former AAU champion will be here in a few weeks.
It will be his first trip to Georgia.
Championship wrestling every Friday
at the Air Conditioned City Auditorium.
All right, Jim,
what will probably be
our final program here today.
All right, I'm revved up.
The first bout is written in.
Mike Monroe
versus Carl Gotch.
Carl Gotch written in.
An extra added match.
Carl Gatch was supposed to be in this one, but he was
changed that first match.
Mike Conrad versus Manuel Soto,
a bonus attraction.
Pacific Coast champ Fred Blassie
versus rough contender beautiful Bobby
We have a special tag team match, Jim,
two out of three falls.
Rugged Russian 1 and Rugged Russian 2.
Ha ha ha ha.
Versus Rene Goulet
and Mike Pappas,
which is written in for Mike Conrad
who was written into the other match,
but anyway.
A Texas death match, Jim.
Chief J.
Strongbow versus Stanley Stasiak.
Oh, good Lord.
Okay.
For the World Tag Championship, two out of three falls, Tarzan, Tyler, and Luke Graham
versus Gorilla Monsoon and Victor Rivera.
And finally, the main event, Steel Cage Showdown for the World Championship,
Pedro Morales, versus Jimmy Valiant.
Wow.
okay let's see here
I don't know about Mike Monroe
and Mike Conrad or Robert Conrad
or all those other people
Carl Gotch popped me being written in
considering not only his
personal piccadillos about who he was
the god of pro wrestling got written in on the fucking opener
but this was at a time where
he was in the terror
which is of course the old WWWF.
Fred Blassie, the Pacific Coast champion,
Blassie was the top guy in the Los Angeles territory,
working for Mike LaBelle,
but because the TV aired there on,
what was it, Brian, one of the Hispanic stations in New York,
the Los Angeles TV.
So they, you know, they imported talent sometimes.
Beautiful Bobby was not Bobby.
Eaton, but the original beautiful Bobby,
who was Bob Harmon.
Smoking Mountain Legend.
Yeah, Smoky Mountain Legend, Bob Harmon.
He was living in Cincinnati
and friends with Les Thatcher
who had known him because Bob Harmon
quit wrestling in the mid-70s,
but he came down to
be Buddy Landell's manager just
to kick him off when good
buddy came back after a long
absence.
The
The Russians were Pedro Godoy and I can't remember, but they were a mass team.
And Renee Goulet, we just talked about earlier in the program, he was a baby face at this point.
And along with the flying Greek Mike Pappas, who is famous forever that picture of the
centerfold of wrestling world taken up in Andre the Giants' arms because Pappas was only like
five foot four.
strongbow and stajiac strongbow was on his first run as the top baby as second to top baby face behind the
w w w f champion vince senior loved him some strongbow uh when did he become j strongbow what 70 or 71
I do you're not going to tell me because I'll narrow this down but uh stajac this was before
his run as champion which began on what was it December 11973 it ended on December 10
1973 uh Tarzan Tyler and Luke Graham were the tag team champions when the was the US
tag team belts I believe or were they the first?
WWWF champions.
Nevertheless, Monsoon and Rivera and Pedro at a cage as champion against Jimmy Valiant.
I don't remember Jimmy Valiant getting a garden main event.
But I may be wrong, but I'm thinking that this is probably the Philly Spectrum or the Boston Garden.
But we'll say the Philly Spectrum in 1972.
Very, very close.
It's sad we have to close out on this note.
Jim, it's Saturday, November 13th,
1971.
The promoter Abe Ford, the Boston Garden.
Son of a bitch, I talked myself out of it again.
You had it. You had it in your hand, and you let it go.
Well, there you go.
How about that, 1971 cage match main event against a world champion for handsome Jimmy?
That was his first big single run before there was a valiant brothers.
It was, and he was actually sometimes teamed up with beautiful Bobby.
Texas death match rules, one, no curfew.
Two, no time limit.
Three, no holds barred.
Four, no disqualification.
Five, referee cannot award bout.
6. Wrestler must be pinned or surrender.
7. Must be a winner.

day, 2 to 3 p.m. Checker local paper for Times as program presentation is subject to change.
Four different television airings in the same television market over the course of daytimes and the
weekend, they may have had an audience that approached half of what is watching AEW dynamite
on Wednesday nights in the whole country. Hey, by the way, this is interesting. It's in 1971. Steel Cage rules
one, winner must go over top of cage or two, winner must go out steel cage door, three, no referee inside steel cage.
So here in the Northeast, even back then, 1971, you had to escape the cage, not get a pinfall in the cage.
Yeah, I think they started that with Bruno, did they not?
I think that's the first guy I know of having those matches.
No, you know what, in Boston, it was it was Bruno and Sheik, wasn't it?
Because that way, it was, because that way Bruno could beat the Sheek.
Whatever the fuck, I don't know.
Well, Jim, that was guest to program.
And of course, when we hear the sad state of your performance this week, other than
getting the Memphis card, you talked yourself out of a lot of things.
You know, you, I think you could say, talked yourself out of a lot of things.
of your pants. And of course, you recently sold your pants for half off.
You're a mess right now and you need something to cover up. I'm a mess.
I guess that's the point. What are you talking about? What I'm trying to say is our friends
that the perfect gene may have something so you can cover up and do more respectful next
time. It's very simple. Why is that hard to understand? Well, I don't. I'm flabbergasted
is what I am.
Here's what the thing is.
Maybe they ought to take the perfect gene
and wad it up and stub it in your mouth
so you wouldn't have to go through
those convulsions you just went through.
Now, what you're trying to say, Brian,
is that the people at the perfect gene
have built the perfect gene.
And not only that, but other kinds of clothing,
like butter soft teas and polos
that hug your arms and chest without strangling them.
And they layer seamlessly under a light,
jacket for those cool May evenings. Friday night, it was late, I was walking you home. We got down
to the gate and I was thinking of my teas and how they really please when they grip my nipples
so softly and gently. Let's softly and gently get back to the company. Yes, the perfect gene,
because if you want clothes that don't cut your circulation off or don't chafe your taint or don't
crimp up your ass crack or don't give you horrible just lumps in your armpits from constantly
sawing back and forth with the seam and the rough cotton and the horrible materials and the sharp
edges of normal clothing you want the perfect gene because they've done this without all of that
stuff they make blue jeans that don't look like stretched jeans but yet they stretch
and they look blue because they are.
And they're comfortable enough to sit down
without throwing up
or bending over to pick up something
without being cut in half
like in some kind of horrible saw movie climax
where you bend over to pick up a dime off the ground
and suddenly your top half falls off
because the waistband of your immovable,
unstechable pants has just sawed you in half
like a goddamn thing.
trout. Brian, do you want to be sawed in half like a trout?
No, a horrible thing, but let's just say a problem you won't need to worry about with the
perfect gene, and that's one of the great things about the perfect gene.
No horror film endings, just stretchiness and you can bend over.
Brock Lesnar has been looking for a pair of jeans like this his whole life.
You can, oh, because you can F5 people.
Just walk down a street and pick somebody up and give them an F5.
You're not going to split the seat out of these pants.
Don't do that, but you won't.
Well, you know, you won't if you did, but if you do, you know, at least you don't have to worry.
It's just the person getting F5 that's going to have to worry.
You may have to worry.
But see, the thing is, with the perfect gene and the associated clothing they make,
they make it out of such incredible material that you can just caress yourself,
just walk down the street, just rubbing yourself all over your body.
They've got waist from 26 inches to 52 inches so they could fit Javon Evans to
Mason Rook.
And they've got links from 26 to 38, which means they can fit short people into tall
people.
And you don't even have to worry about just having a measurement because also they ask you
like a body type, all the way from skinny to thick, thick, including athletic,
which some of you guys out there are if you want to try to squat or workout or jump or
crawl or whatever you people do in the gym, well, you can do this. And if you're fat,
did I mention before, well, then you can just be fine because they'll stretch with all of your
expansive rolls and folds and the waves that come over your body.
We don't need to do that. If you're a really fat person and you're wearing clothes, the clothes do
not spread out and or expand and contract with the waves that your body makes when you
sit down or stand up or try to touch your toes or wipe your ass or whatever the case may be.
So you don't have to worry about that.
Again, fat or skinny or in between, it doesn't matter.
The perfect gene sees no difference between people, just people that need genes that fit
that are comfortable, that are stretchy, give you all the capabilities with that
classic gene look. And of course, when we get past all the fun Jim Cornett stories, we're talking
about, at its core, a great pair of pants. And at your core, where your core won't be sore.
See? Yeah, you were doing poetry over there a minute ago. Well, your core won't be sore.
If you, no good whore, if you get...
Okay, you take it too far. Well, I couldn't think of door. I'll take the door.
Right now, folks, open up the door to the perfect gene and associated clothing by going to the perfect gene, j-e-a-n dot NYC, or Google the perfect gene, but go to the perfect gene.
And our listeners are going to get 15% off their first order plus free shipping with the code J-C-E-15.
that again is JCE 15 for 15% off and free shipping,
the perfect gene.
com.
You can bend over,
you can squat,
you don't even have to unbutton them
when you go for your third double bacon cheeseburger
because they're already just stretching out.
And if you are genetically mutated,
like from Chernobyl and you have Plastic Man
or Mr. Fantastic Reed Richards' abilities,
Well, these things stretch so you don't have to worry about ripping your pants off and being naked when you elongate your legs to battle some crisis.
That's right. You don't have to worry about any of that, and your worries will discipline.
Not anymore.
With a good pair of pants, a good pair of jeans, the perfect gene.
One more time, Jim, without any of your special brand of commentary, let the listeners know that link and that great deal.
That link is JCE-15. The great deal is 15%.
sent off and free shipping.
And I'll have you know that my commentary sometimes is quite pithy and needed in today's
environment. Don't squash your balls, folks.
The Perfect Gene.Nyc.N.N.YC.
No reason to be walking around with flat balls.
That's what I always say. Once again, the perfect gene.
And Jim, with that, we shall return after this short commercial timeout with your review of
AEW double or nothing
2026.
Oh boy.
Oh, here we go.
All right, it's Jim's favorite of the tunes.
We are back here, ladies and gentlemen,
and we're going to now talk about
AEW double or nothing from Louis Armstrong Stadium
this past weekend as we are recording.
It's a Louis Armstrong Stadium.
I'm going to just say two things before you say everything you're going to say.
I enjoyed this more than most AEW pay-per-views.
This may have been one of my favorite AEW pay-per-views.
A large part of that may have been because of one of the hottest AEW crowds I've ever seen,
and I thought the building looked really fucking cool.
You know, I must agree with you there.
The building looks fucking great.
And this crowd was the classic example of,
for the kind of people who like that kind of thing,
that's the kind of thing those people like.
And they were with it.
And I was telling you or talking to you before we went on the air
that they've got the Louis Armstrong Stadium,
the Arthur Ashe Stadium, they built all this shit.
There was no talk of running, wrestling at any of the
facilities when I lived up there 30 years ago because there weren't any of these facilities.
And I got to be honest with you, fuck Madison Square Garden, just because everybody's a mark
and wants to work there because of the building it is. But I guarantee you that this building
costs 25% of what Madison Square Garden would cost to rent. And they can,
if they can do crowds like this,
then I don't think they,
because they've,
they've had several interviews lately
where different guys on the roster.
I think M.JF was one and said,
oh, we,
we want to work in Madison Square Garden
or we could sell Madison Square Garden out.
You could sell Madison Square Garden out twice
and probably not make the profit.
Then you'd make selling this fucking place out once.
So I wouldn't worry about it if I was there.
I'd stick with this building.
I mean, and yes, it's going to be a law of diminishing returns like Wembley Stadium and whatever the case else.
You can't just do this all the time, but if they're going to run New York, I think this ought to be their place.
It looked better.
The people were hot.
And it's got to be, again, as I said, multiple times less expense to run than the garden or that,
Barclay's Center in
where is it Brooklyn or Queens
or wherever all these places are.
This is Queens. This is in Queens.
This is part of the World's Fair
slash Shea Stadium area.
The big advantage to Madison Square Garden is
it sits above Penn Station.
And if you have to catch a subway or a cab,
they're all over the place.
We'll talk about it after we review the show.
But there was a huge problem, apparently,
with people who treated this like a New York City, like a Manhattan show,
where you'll just easily be able to come and go.
Man, this is Queens.
This is the heart of Queens.
You...
What, the coming is...
The coming is easy, but the going is hard.
Well, you know what?
This is exactly where Robert Moses wanted the Dodgers to move,
which is why they left New York to go to Los Angeles.
he thought it was just going to be the perfect location for cars.
And it is.
If you drive and there's no traffic,
it's a perfect central location.
If you don't drive, you're going to be screwed.
And a lot of people apparently got screwed coming out of a show they loved.
We'll talk about the transportation,
because I don't understand that whole thing,
but more on that in moments.
But first of all, the pre-show, and of course, no,
I didn't watch the pre-show,
but I'm going to make one statement
about what of the matches they had,
and then we'll talk about the news that developed.
But on the pre-show, they had a girls tag match,
then they had a men's six-man tag match,
and then they had a men's one, two, three, four, five,
ten-man tag team match.
When they had a 14-man tag team match
on the pay-per-view card,
some of their main event baby faces.
They have a 10-man tag for no reason on the goddamn pre-show,
just so.
And what, Shane Taylor, here's one team.
Shane Taylor, Anthony Agogo, Sean Dean,
Dean, Charlie Bravo, and Lee Moriarty.
We haven't heard some of those names in five years.
They've still paying all these people,
and he just puts them on the show.
I think they're stars of Ring of Honor.
Okay.
Anyway, but the big news on the pre-show
was Mick Foley made his debut.
We just talked about there was speculation,
and I was like, why?
Mick Foley is way too nice.
Mick Foley loves the kids
and they're silly wrestling.
And under normal,
circumstances because of
Mick has been a star
even if he has way too much
tolerance for this fake, phony
bullshit. And you
would think as much as he damaged himself
in the
process of doing wrestling that he would have some
respect
for just these fucking idiots just not
going to make it a goddamn farce of the whole
thing, but nevertheless
he negated his
his argument as to why that he left the WWF, he didn't renew his deal,
because they were so fucking Trumpy.
And he became my favorite person.
I wish more of my contemporaries had his backbone and would stand up and say,
no, I'm not going to be a part of this hoarse shit with you helping this criminal
administration.
then he goes and works for another fucking billionaire that gave Trump money too
and it negates the goddamn point that he made doesn't it
I know they're not as out front about it and don't publicly go around with their arm
around the fucking pig
but Tony's dad gave Trump money
and that to me if you lay down with dogs you wake up with fleas
same thing
so
Nick can't need the money
so I just
I can't
I would like to defend him
but I can't
but that's what I think about that
more than wrestling
it negated his
goddamn real world point that he made
does that make any sense to you
I understand where you're coming from
I mean I think that was one of the things
about the stance he took if the stance you take
is I have a problem with you guys
because of your political affiliations,
and then you go with someone else
who has the exact same affiliations,
maybe not, you know, literally hugging the president
in the Oval Office,
whatever Triple H is doing.
The cons treat Trump like you should treat
a porn addiction or something like that.
You do it with the drapes closed
in the privacy of your own home
and try not let anybody find out about it.
I think it'll be a very friendly environment for Mick Foley.
I think, you know, this isn't the first
time him and WWE have had problems since he's retired the first time.
You know, it seems like there's always been a love, hate thing going on with him and Vince
or just him in the office.
And I'm sure one day he'll be affiliated with them again.
Because he also forgives way too easily.
I've heard that's a thing that people do forgive people for shit, but I don't understand it.
I'm a big fan of Mick Foley in the 90s, literally like.
the entire decade of the 90s.
I'm a fan of everything McFoley did pretty much.
But he's willing to do the dick flip.
He's willing to work with the invisible man.
I don't look at McFoly as a guy with standards that they're not my standards.
I'll just say that.
So I almost have to separate, you know, this is a guy who wants to stay involved in the wrestling
business and these are some of the unfortunate realities and he may also like them.
I mean, they got fucking dresses like.
Santa Claus all the time or whatever he does.
It's weird.
Let me just throw that out there.
It's a little weird.
At least he's grown into the beard.
He doesn't have to wear a fake white one anymore.
But they had him co-hosting the pre-show with Renee Paquette.
Apparently Tony was very proud of this pairing.
It was his idea.
And they also did an angle with him and the participants in that night's main event.
And that's,
There was the rumor going about it.
Rumor because he confirmed it.
Mick was thinking about having his last match with MJF,
but then he took like some simple bump and had concussion symptoms and said,
well, he rethought it.
I hope he's not rethinking it again because you can only get away with so much.
And I think he's precedent if he goes too much further.
anyhow the show then started brian the double or nothing the they've already had an hour pre-show
so now we've only got four hours and ten minutes to go and here's what i did i said i'm going to
just hate life if i try to watch this entire thing so i'm going to skip four or five of these things
that I know is going to really piss me off and take forever
and try to give some serious attention
to the other four or five that remain.
Because there's, you know, there's 13 or so matches to choose from.
And we mentioned the building and the crowd, and it was great,
and I'd run there all the time, not all the time, but I would run there.
I'd make that my New York base if I was them.
That's a horrible thought.
and they started with what I would have assumed
would have been the best tag team match
that they probably could field.
Edge and Christian against FTR.
FTR, the most in-ring accomplished tag team of their roster
and Edge and Christian are the legends.
And I thought, well, they can put together a heck of a match.
Maybe they'll go a little too far like FTA.
T.R usually does in the finish.
I didn't realize we were going to not even make it through the first match,
Brian, on this thing before somebody got set on fire.
It was a street fight and an I quit match where if Edge and Christian lost,
they could never team again.
If FTR lost, they'd lose the tag team title.
The aforementioned street fight rules make it so that it's,
no disqualification.
And then you've also got to quit rather than getting beat.
So this by no means was a hat on a hat on a hat.
And have you noticed that nobody dresses for a street fight anymore?
Yeah.
We just talked about it the other day and I was thinking about it.
There was one, I think it was on Worldwide in 86, with the horsemen.
And, like, Flair was wearing a polo shirt.
It always sticks out to me.
Yeah, no one dresses.
any different. FDR dressed like it was a regular match.
Yeah. They all do. It doesn't
mean nobody dresses for the stipulation. They just go out because they do all
do the same thing in every fucking match. So anyway.
And also this was a tornado four way.
Also, there were no, so we got a street fight.
We got a tornado match, all four in the ring. We got an I quit match
for the title and the retiring.
and they had barbed wire in the ring in the first one minute.
But of course, it was fake barbed wire,
and it was only like two or three feet
where they could act like they were choking each other
and, you know, wrapping it around each other's throats.
But the problem is,
when Cage wrapped it, the barbed wire around the rope,
and then dropped toeholded dachs into it,
or they got it wrapped around their face or whatever,
nobody bled.
So why use fake barbed wire
in the first one minute?
And it set a fucking pattern.
Edge pulled out a chair.
They whipped
each other with the belts.
The edge pulled out the ladder
and suplexed dax on it.
And then they got the toolbox.
But then they have to squeeze Dax's
nose and squeeze Cash's
balls. So they can't
even be serious about they're supposed to be mad.
And it went into every indie,
phony garbage match.
And they spike piled row of edge on the announced desk.
If it had been a hospitalization angle,
I would have raved about it for weeks because it looked great.
Didn't hurt him.
He was right back up.
They're going to win.
Did you catch where they tried to,
the cinder block they go to hit christian's wrist with a cinder block but of course he moves so it
it hits the stairs so they put his wrist in the hole in the cinder block and then with hitting
the block with a chair where obviously it was not coming anywhere close to his hand because it was in a
Linder block.
But then instead of even selling that like it was serious,
you give it up,
and Christian says,
I banged your mother.
I fired Buddy Landell for singing Moon River and I quit match.
And then they took the top rope off.
So, boy, this is really going to be a great match now.
They gave the shatter machine to Christian,
but then he rolled out to the floor,
but then he forgot and realized he needed to be in the wrist.
so he rolled back in.
But there was some miscommunication
because Cash got a wrench out of the toolbox.
But as he went up to Christian,
he didn't hit him with the wrench,
he hit him with the other hand with the microphone in it.
And then Edge speared both the heels,
so they were in the wrong position.
I don't know what the fuck.
And Edge hit Dax, I think it was,
about eight chair, no, both of them,
about eight chair shots.
Then everything came to a halt while they did a false tease of a quit spot with the microphone,
but that was a chance for Stokely to come in and hit Edge, which brought Beth out, made up like a fire-breathing dragon.
With Pyro and Entrance.
With Pyro and Ballyhoo.
and Beth beat up Stokely.
And then Dax grabbed Beth and ran her into the stairs,
which is going to momentarily daze her.
Then Dax gets a bottle of lighter fluid
and squirts it all over the table sitting on the floor at ringside.
And while Stokely was holding Beth on the apron of the ring,
and Cash was going to run at her,
Dax set the table on fire.
But as Cash was charging,
Beth pulled Stokely in front of him,
and Cash and Stokely went through the flaming table.
And Tony Chavani's commentary on this,
as one of the announcers, was,
it's the first match and they're burning people.
And I felt the same way.
and I quit on this one.
They went on.
They did more shit.
I heard there was something to do
with a baseball bat with nails in it.
But after the fucking cremation,
I don't care.
So fuck this match and these people.
How about that?
You know, you highlight the comment by Tony Chivani.
This entire show,
stadium stampede, which I can imagine it's hard to be serious calling, but that is the job.
But even stuff like this, or if Darby takes a crazy bump, there's too much fucking laughing on
they're just laughing at it.
Like, oh, look, I bet he ruptured his spleen.
And one gets the other one going, and they're just giggling at the serious shit.
and then Chivani starts giggling
and he'll just be like
oh man this is great
I love this I love this kind of stuff
it's not helping
if you're going to do this kind of match
and I understand they probably
We know it's a joke already without
look it's a defective product
but the salesman is supposed to try to con you
into buying it
well they're already there
but that was that match and again I was going to say
I think there may have been some issues
with the New York State Athletic Commission
just because they're so strict, so that may have.
That went to hold on.
Now, the New York Athletic Committee is so fucking strict.
Blow me, blow me.
They couldn't have self-inflicted blood,
so that doesn't matter.
There's always Hardway blood and AEW
because they fucking kill each other
because they don't know what they're doing.
So several people bled.
But don't tell me about a strict athletic commission
when they've got people not only setting shit on fire at ringside but taking bumps through it
and the tables and the fucking furniture and the gimmicks and all that stuff
Kentucky was a strict commission.
I had to get permission from the commissioner for a goddamn fireball one time,
a flashpaper fireball that was going to miss.
These idiots are setting shit on fire for real.
Blow me, New York Athletic Commission.
If you were serious, you'd shut this whole shit down.
And with Beth Phoenix's return, I'll say what I said when AJ Lee returned.
I think it would have been a lot better if you just had her in the crowd pop up and she's angry
and she takes a swipe at someone or comes out without music in her gear and full makeup.
Oh, you said, pyro, her name's on the screen.
A lot of-
How did they know that Stokely was going to interfere right at that moment?
You know, it's not sports entertainment.
it's like wrestling entertainment.
Some of these guys, they treat it like, you know,
nothing matter.
I don't know.
It's a farce.
Let's just face it,
this show indicated more than anything else.
It's a farce.
They're just,
they're jacking off.
They don't consider themselves wrestlers,
and they shouldn't.
It's a fucking clown show
for the goddamn demographic
of whoever it is that likes clown shows.
And we got one match in the middle of this thing,
which we'll get to.
And otherwise,
whether intentional or accidental,
everything else was the shit show.
Nevertheless, speaking of shit, go ahead.
I was going to say, I told you I liked this card.
I did not like this match.
Well, how about Okada and take a shit?
And I'm going to tell you right now,
I watched the finish,
I watched the afterbirth of this
because
Okada's on my list with Moxley.
I cannot stomach them.
I'm not going to watch this lazy, non-appealing bastard sleepwalk his way through a goddamn match.
This is two heels from the same group whose grudge is that they've made mean faces at each other.
There have been no promos, there have been no turn, there's been no angle, they just make mean faces at each other.
and at the same time, this was another one of the title matches.
Okada's the champion, but the take was announced as some kind of champion.
So I start fast forwarding, and it takes quite a while.
How long did they go, Brian?
Was it endless or just semi-endless?
I don't remember how long they went.
I'll tell you right here, I really like this match.
This may have been my favorite O'Connor match in AEW.
probably was
and I actually really
really, really like the match
Did he really put forth an effort
because it's one of his countrymen
and a friend of his?
I think the last few minutes were really hot
and he had to have put effort in
and I think maybe that's part of his genius
he puts an effort while looking like a sloth
you know, it's a skill if you think about it
but I thought the match was great
the fans being as into it as they were
put it over the top for me
I thought this was an incredible match
It was my favorite O'Connor match there.
The post-match, and I'm only saying this because it doesn't tell like you really watch any of the match.
That's what I watched was the post-match.
The post-match was typical.
You knew where it was going.
It took longer than it should have taken to get there.
It raises a lot of questions, but, you know, I personally thought they should have let Takesh to have.
I mean, I don't know.
I didn't see the reason.
A moment?
Yeah, I didn't see the reason.
for doing it like this here, but great match.
I thought it was a great match. He won the title,
so at least Ocada did a job. I'm in favor
of that. I think he should do a job for the popcorn
guy on his way out of the building, his thanks for being
given a fucking gift of goddamn being paid in this business.
And then Callis went in, congratulates him,
and it goes help Ocada up, and here comes Davis and Romero.
And they just, they're lined up. The announcers
try to say, oh my God, it's four on one.
you know, with Callis and Davis and Romero and Okada against poor take.
They were just talking.
There was no threats.
There was no like, we're going to get you.
And then suddenly, the music played,
and here came Kyle Feltcher in a pink and purple suit.
And he went nose to nose with Okada.
And then Callis just takes his guys.
They just leave.
and then Kyle hugs take a shit
and I'm going, what the fuck is with these people?
And they hug for a while and then Kyle levels him.
Okay, well, so now apparently at least
they've done something to kick somebody out of the family.
But then Kyle kneeled over him, picked him up,
and gave him a brain buster.
Okay, the point was already made, but he made your point.
Then he has the guys come back and pick him up,
and Kyle takes the belt and
but now Okada
tugs at it like he wants the belt
but oh you can have it
and then he hits
fucking take a shit with him with
the belt to get
they won't stop
it's over
and over and over
so now
good luck
take a shit you're going to be a baby face
that can't fucking cut a promo
Jesus Christ
I'm glad you liked the match.
The match was really good.
I think Takesha versus Kyle Fletcher will be really good.
The problem with AEW are the angles.
Don't necessarily.
They're never timed well.
That's the point is,
where are the angles to get to these matches
and where are the fiery promos
with people calling the heavens down to get revenge?
Or are they just stare at each other and make mean faces?
And obviously they wanted to surprise the fans
with Kyle Fletcher turning on Takeshita
to stay with the heel stable he was already in.
You just say it together.
It doesn't make much sense, but that is what happened.
But they pop big time when him and
when Kyle Fletcher and Takesha embraced.
Like they wanted that.
And then that was yanked away from them too.
Yes.
They love it when people hug each other, though, here.
What about Athena and Mina Mela?
how was that?
You know, you can't watch them all.
You can't watch them all.
There's a lot of,
there's a lot of things.
Can't watch them all.
They had another title match with no time limit with Moxley and O'Reilly.
And before I could hit the button to fast forward,
I did hear Jim Ross was on color and his voice sounded strong.
And he sounded healthy.
I'm sorry that they put him on this because I didn't watch it.
I can't suffer.
Moxley pretend to be a Gracie.
So they went about 20 minutes,
and then they were in the middle of the ring
for one minute straight.
O'Reilly got an ankle lock,
and Moxley gingerly got his ankle.
And then O'Reilly let go of his ankle lock
so he could try to do something else,
but he couldn't get the ropes then,
and Moxley just kept him in the goddamn ankle lock
until he tapped out.
So the heel beat the baby face, clean in the middle by tap out after being in the middle of the ring,
practically motionless for an entire full minute.
I'd like to take whoever does their finishes, line them up against a wall,
and target practice with a bazooka.
Now tell me what I missed on this one.
I'm not a fan of John Moxley's matches.
And you know what?
I knew it was going to go a while.
I knew eventually they would start trading blows back and forth doing yay boo
in the middle of the match towards the end of the match.
I knew what happened and it did.
They killed the crowd in the middle of the match.
This hot crowd all night, the most silent they got, I think the whole show,
was in the middle of this long-winded match where Moxley got to beat Kyle O'Reilly
with his move that he had beaten Moxley with.
And then shake his hand.
Because that's all it took.
That's right.
That's again, they shook it.
What? So Moxley wanted to kill Brian Danielson. And then he wanted to kill or tried to kill Will Osprey, although that was just so that he could bring him into his group and retrain him and train him for reasons I don't understand exactly. And then Moxley lost to Kyle O'Reilly, couldn't beat him, had that match just past week with him to set up this. That was it. He just had to beat him. Okay, now we're cool.
all righty here's one that I was looking forward to and I actually watched and it was my favorite
match of the night because it was the only match of the night Samoa Joe and Will Osprey
again they didn't need furniture they didn't need to set each other on fire
they didn't need to be fighting in the crowd for minutes at a time it was a fucking match it was a fight
The crowd was with it.
Without all of that garbage, they don't need.
They just do because they're marks for themselves.
And Osprey's exciting as a baby face, as a,
especially as an underdog against a bigger guy like this.
When he's not with somebody, as I've said before,
who's going to outflip him, so he's got to outflip that guy.
then you get a more subdued legitimate serious professional Will Osprey.
And I mean, it was just, it was stiff back and forth.
Joe beat him up for quite a while, but he sold and fought back.
Joe is an obvious surly heel and his shit looks good.
Osprey, when they're not doing the Cirque de Soleil stuff with somebody else that, you know, does
that his shit stands out and he can take a bigger guy down with one of those flying kicks or whatever
one of my favorite spots he went for the big cody cutter and joe just walked off on it but again
physical boom boom boom and then osprey started to come back and he hit that styles clash out of
nowhere and got a two count and hit an elbow and got a two count and hit an elbow and got a two
but went for another one and Joe hit the power slam and got a two count.
And they got, this is awesome for wrestling.
And then the only thing I didn't like it, I don't know why, but it's, it's epidemic.
They went back and forth.
Joe got to sleeper.
Osprey got the ropes on the third arm drop.
He managed to, you know, fucking.
get the ropes just in time.
And then Joe went for the muscle buster.
And as he's got him in the middle of the ring,
Osprey drops behind suddenly,
hits the ropes, comes back and hits his big elbow finish.
Cover one count.
What?
And then he jumped up and ran and hit the same goddamn elbow
and got a three count.
What is the matter with these people?
not only if he'd a hit him with the elbow the first time foiling the muscle buster
then Joe's off balance his move was foiled he got hit with the guy's finish
boom one two three it gives Joe an out and it gets Osprea and his finish over
but instead when he kicks out at one I'll just do the same thing again now it's a three count
now you just beat to fucking heel flat
it's not as exciting
and it didn't get your finish over
because it took two of them
are they all out of fucking
just completely out of their minds
really good match
really really good match fans are really into it
a lot of them are out of their minds yes
but this is the crazy world of wrestling
where minds
don't matter at times
Yeah, it's a case of mind over matter.
I don't mind and you don't matter.
Really good match.
And then Joe bowed to him when he walked out of the ring.
What a heel.
Instead of, okay, let's, Osprey's going to win the fucking tournament, obviously,
unless they're all complete idiots.
And he'll face MJF in his home country at Wembley Stadium.
And he better win the belt there.
But then if you had still some.
animosity between him and Joe,
you'd have a rematch that you
one of his first challengers.
Here, Joe's, oh, okay, you're the better guy.
I'll leave now.
What the fuck is the matter
with anybody?
Really good match.
Yeah.
But it was a good match.
That was the only one they had all night.
That was the only match.
No, that was the only, think about this.
That was the only wrestling match they had all night
where nobody should have been
counted out, should have been obviously disqualified.
They didn't break any furniture.
Nobody got set on fire.
And there was a somewhat legitimate finish to the thing.
Okada Takesha.
Again, I really liked it, and it had all those parameters.
And neither guy could speak English to cut promos.
See, now I've narrated down.
They speak the universal language of, you know, angry grimace.
Speak the universal language of I'm cashing Tony's check.
Everybody in the universe is going to get a check from Tony sooner or later.
All right, let's skip the next two, Bandito and Swerve.
I didn't watch them because I don't like Bandito
because of his stupid, goddamn phony fucking suplex.
And I was afraid if I watched another Swerve Strickland match,
he'd be impaled by another needle or set somebody else's house on fire.
So sue me.
and I did not watch
Thetla versus Stantlander
versus Hader versus Sheeda
because of the names I just mentioned.
So we got two matches left on this thing
and we're three hours into the pay-per-view
plus an hour of pre-show.
That means it's time for stadium stampede
a 14-man tag team match
with absolutely no rules
of anything,
anywhere.
Rickashet
at his two stooges.
Mark Davis, Andrade,
Chuck Connors, and David Finley
against Chris Jericho,
Shelton, Benjamin, Bobby Lashley,
Kenny, and the
Hardley boys.
You want to start?
Again, this is the comedy
portion of the show. It helps when you know
that. It helps when you know
that you don't have to take the match or the people in it
seriously. This is,
you said the word far,
earlier. This is kind of, you know, AEW's annual
Benny Hill performance.
Endless, endless, farce. Imagine if Benny Hill
had just run around with Yakety Saxe playing for 30
solid fucking minutes. But they didn't do that this year. I give
them credit, because in the past, especially with Jericho, we've seen them just
play music through large portions of these matches.
They didn't do that here, so you got to really... No, I mean, the whole thing was
just a Benny Hill sketch for 30 minutes. It's just that
Nobody laughed at this.
You know, with all that action and all those wrestlers,
I did like when they had on the screen four different camera angles of the same thing.
It wasn't like, here's four different areas of the building where people are fighting.
It was four different angles of the same thing in the ring.
They were trying it out and realized that it looked like shit.
I got an 82-inch screen.
I couldn't watch four different fucking...
So they do a dramatic video for the baby faces, the baby face team,
where they look like it's a movie trailer and they're all wearing suits and it's in slow-mo.
And then Kenny does comedy.
And then they laugh at him.
They can't even take this seriously.
They're supposed to be a big grudge of some kind with these heel job.
guys. They can't even be serious in their own fucking goofy farcical match.
And they started with a 14 way. I don't think I've ever written those words before.
The quadruple box, the baby faces were all in kind of odd suit. Well, the Hertz had regular
suits on and the other ones had the old searsucker suits. Only they
got mixed up and went to Sears and got to instead of Cox's,
ricochet and his heels for some reason were wearing baseball uniforms.
So everybody's wearing clothing of some kind.
And you can't tell who's on whose team.
Because I didn't know who a couple of these job guys were by sight anyway.
Then I remember Connors.
It just, it's a shame.
they think that they're somehow revolutionary
when they come up with all this shit
they go to the back and they fight in the odd locations
and then they'll cut to another scene
or another odd object
jungle jackoff hit one of the heels
with a vacuum cleaner tank full of powder
and there was no on-screen fast forward on this streaming service,
so I just let this go in the background
and kind of jotted odd notes down.
Leo Rush was a gremlin in the back
and helped Lashley for some reason.
Oh, no, there's a reason.
That's his new gimmick,
and he's been kind of a little monster who hops around,
and it's a really disturbing sight.
This is his new thing now,
but remember, he managed Lashley
and WWE like 10 years ago.
Remember you saw him and you're like, I've seen the next great manager.
Well, yes, but so they're making, because, oh, Christ, they're marks.
They're all, we've been arguing for years, everybody, about what is the definition of a mark?
Tony Kahn and everybody that works for him are marks.
That's the definition.
If it ain't been on AEW television or it wasn't a goddamn WrestleMania main event,
What the fuck?
Point is, just people start appearing in this thing.
The Buccaroos fought by the merch table and knocked a guy onto the escalator.
Luchessaurus was sitting in the front row with a blonde wig on so he could scare Andrade.
Jericho and Rickashay took bumps on tennis balls.
Davis beat up some job guy in catering that bowed up at him.
but then somehow Kenny and Andrade knocked Satnam Singh,
that guy's still around, they're still paying him.
They knocked him into a pie.
So he screamed food fight and they had all the jobbers and local indie guys
in the catering where they just started throwing food everywhere.
And Tony Chavadhi, that's what he says.
This is so entertaining.
To who?
the billionaire boy child that's on the spectrum of something,
the overpaid under talented phonies that are jacking off
on national worldwide pay-per-view,
that's who it's entertaining?
I can understand Excalibur has no choice.
He's not ever going to get a job as an announcer for any other wrestling program.
He got it because he's friends with the buckaroos,
and he's a mark just like the rest of.
If I was Taz, I'd walk out.
I'm ashamed that he's put in this position.
If I was him, I'd exercise some goddamn pride
and what's left of my reputation and walk out.
And Tony, if you can't even,
he did the job well, but it was 40 years ago.
And then he went away for a long time.
and now he doesn't give two shits about the wrestling business,
and he's old and he's taking this guy's money,
and I understand that.
But if you can't do somehow a better job
than just giggling at these fucking idiots,
if I was him, I'd quit too, not out of principle
because he's no better than them anymore,
but just because he couldn't,
he can't even do a good job of being a bad announcer.
What the fuck?
The Buccane's rode somebody around in a shopping cart with a garbage can on his head.
And then Ricochet beat Jericho up in the back with a tennis racket.
But Fat Luther came out of the kitchen.
Can't imagine a better place and handed Jericho a five-foot long racket that he then beat up and threw tennis.
He threw tennis balls at Rickash for a false finish.
in the middle of all this, even though it all looks phony
and everybody's obviously cooperating
and most guys work as the shits,
at the same time, somebody could get hurt
for no reason in this shit
because of the furniture and the people
in the way that are green and sloppy.
And then they had to run the guy down in the parking lot.
Mark Davis is trying to get in a fucking car.
And suddenly he looks around, oh my God, and here comes Jungle Jackoff in a green school bus.
And then they cut the camera, but they try to give you the impression that he tried to and possibly succeeded in running Davis over in between the bus and a bunch of cars that he smashed into.
And then everybody took dangerous bumps on the floor.
then they broke about six tables in a row.
Then the baby faces gave ricochet
four or five finishes in a row that he kept getting up from
so the next one could.
And then they gave one of the stooges
a seven-way super kick.
And Jericho penned him one, two, three.
This was 30-something minutes
of just masturbation
from these ass wipes.
Watching this match made me wish that I worked there
so I could walk out over it.
So I'm open to your thoughts,
but unless somebody involved in this as family member
is in dire health and needs money for an operation,
I'm ashamed of anybody that took part in this.
And that includes Shelton and Lashley and MVP who,
God damn it.
I know they hate Triple H.
And I know they tried for a while to be professional here and got overdoing it.
But I'd have to quit unless, like I said, unless I was in dire straits before I would be involved in this in public.
Do you like it?
I wouldn't say I liked it.
I didn't think it was just the all-time most embarrassing thing ever.
I just watched fan footage.
Apparently, they shot that Jack Perry car crash thing live.
It wasn't a pre-taper.
Not that I guess I really thought about it,
but I just saw fan footage where the fan was filming everything
and he just turned around and it was right behind him.
Yeah, I mean, this is what AEW does.
I mean, certainly it'll be a five-star match in the Observer.
I'd be shocked if it's not five-stars considering the star power in it alone.
a stacked baby face lineup and heels, we're told, not necessarily stars.
Some of them were there also.
It's exactly what I expected it to be.
It's the guys who enjoy their own, the guys who enjoy jerking awful over themselves,
specifically Jericho and the Bucks, and all their ideas unleashed, and Omega,
all their ideas unleashed.
And I think, well, Ashley and Benjamin, maybe they realize, hey, let's go with,
the flow. We're here. We're getting paid
fantastically.
We get up a good time.
You know, we don't have to take this too seriously.
I got to be honest with you.
If back in when I was in the business,
if we had made the money
that they're making now,
you probably would have never heard of me
because I would have quit if I had money
at the time,
sometimes over much less
shit than this and that I ended up
actually quitting over.
But there was still a need to
make some money at that point in time.
But these motherfuckers got no excuse.
They've had money thrown on them
unexpectedly out of the heavens.
All right, well, there was one more match,
and I got to be honestly, after the stadium
shit stirring or whatever, I turned a thing off.
I couldn't watch any more wrestling.
I came back a while ago,
before we started recording this, to watch the main event
because I was just so sick of seeing
this shit and these people doing this shit
that I was, and for hours and hours,
and I didn't watch most of it,
that I was tired that I didn't want to see the main event
by the time it got to it.
And I watched it under duress.
How is that a good marketing plan?
Let's make these shows so long
and do so many things to every human motherfucker,
set them on fire, fracture them, throw them off a cliff.
By the time we get to the main event,
fuck, why does anybody want to see anymore?
Well, Jim, usually it's around that time
where you think about going to the kitchen
and maybe making yourself a nice meal,
and of course, unless they used it in the stadium stampede,
your tools of the trade, your pots and pans
should be ready to go, especially those wonderful ones
that help with the bad transitions, the ones at hexclad.
Well, I'll tell you what.
I wish they'd have had a hex clad pan around that place
because that stadium stampede or whatever
wouldn't have taken but about five minutes
because you hit a son of a bitch with one of these hexclad pans.
They're staying down.
Don't do that.
Well, that's good.
Don't do that because they'll stay down.
They ain't going to get back up.
I even Darby Allen,
would stay down with a hex clad pan because folks it was time to eat time to gather our strength
because we still had more wrestling to watch and what do you want when you want to eat something
but you don't want to clean up a bunch of mess and you don't want to have a hard time cooking it
you want hex clad pans because folks i can say that Gordon ramsie uses the hexclad pans
at his house and at his restaurant, and I'd be telling the truth.
But I bet you that you're not Gordon Ramsey.
I bet you that some of you people out there have trouble boiling water.
Well, nevertheless, not to worry, because you just put a hex-clad pan on the stove,
turn it up about halfway.
That's all you need.
If you turn it up on high, holy shit, you can melt the sun.
Just turn it up about halfway, put your meat in there,
and you're going to get a nice sear on it.
and you're going to flip it over, get a nice sear on it.
And when you're finished, you just turn that pan up sideways
and pour that grease out into your empty pickle jar
and wipe it out with a sponge.
It's easy to clean up.
That's for us guys on the go.
But the great cooks like Brian, your Suzanne and my Stacey,
they like to stir fry.
They like to, they poach, and they do all kinds of fancy things
because these things are all metal utensils safe.
You don't have to baby them,
but they're non-stick at the same time.
They're dishwasher safe,
but they're super easy to wipe clean.
They're oven safe up to 900 degrees.
And you and I both agreed that we don't think our oven even goes to 900 degrees.
So unless you're running a fucking crematorium,

and enjoy what you cook. That's the meaning of life. And again,
all the cannibals in the South Sea Islands. You got to stop with that.
But one more time, Jim, that promo code.
That promo code is hexclad.com slash JCE.
Well, Jim, we have one more big match on this big AEW double or nothing event.
Oh, boy, the title versus the hair. Did you see Justin Roberts? He's half bald already.
on purpose. Can you imagine that he goes into a barbershop and tells them to do that?
It looks like he was somed and went sleep or he lost a bed or something. But instead, he's got
hair on the top of his head, but he's got no hair on the sides of his head. And then he
combs his hair on the top of his head over to the side like it would normally be if there was
hair down below it, which there ain't. So he was a living,
fucking hair match advertisement, just doing the intros.
I hadn't thought of it that way.
So MJF and Darby Allen, and I don't know why they did this whole thing.
They had things cooking.
MJF was the champion.
Will Osprey was coming back from injury.
As we've mentioned, many times they could have just run with that.
Apparently Darby won the belt at his hometown and he's defended it every week on
TV and great matches, according to the people who tell you what great matches are,
and the ratings have gone down almost every week.
So finally, they go to MJF's kind of hometown.
It's in the vicinity.
So naturally, he gets to win the title back.
Also, because there's no way he's going to get his hair shaved.
Also, because they still got to have this fucking match with him and Osprey.
and since it's two and a half months
till our stadium show or whatever,
about goddamn time they get started on it.
So we almost had a 30-second main event
because when the first 30 seconds,
MJF rolled out to the floor,
Darby tried to dive on him.
The spot was going to be that MJF,
I believe, was going to slap him down
or step side of it anyway,
but when Darby was coming through the ropes,
he caught his feet on the ropes,
and he went head first down to the fucking floor.
And he got tucked just in time.
So that was almost it.
And MJF responded to that
by picking him up and power bombing him on the apron.
I wanted to like this.
Again, I know somebody's going to say,
oh, he keeps making excuses for MJF.
No, I don't, not anymore.
people need to catch up.
I've admitted
that he's just
given up and going along
with the foolishness
because he's given up on being a legitimate
star in a major company
and instead he's taking Tony's
money to swim in the kitty pool.
However, it remains
factually correct
and not exaggeration.
He is the best
overall in-ring worker
and certainly the smartest one on the
roster. If he does something, it looks good. If it don't look good, he don't do it. And he tries as
best he can. I can tell to stay away from the stupid shit that he can legitimately injure himself
doing that everybody else does. And he does enough of it to satisfy the goofy guy paying him
and to not be one of those guys that just won't play with the kids.
But they could have had a match here, is what I'm trying to say.
MJF, one of the best in-ring workers, certainly the smartest.
Darby has ability to do wrestling and has the charisma and that weird underdog factor.
Now, we know he's legitimately a mental case, so he won't not do stupid shit.
to the point where it kills the match before it's over.
But he could if he tried.
And that's the,
and if they had a producer that could produce them or whatever,
MJF and Darby Allen are capable of having a great professional wrestling match.
They just didn't hear.
MJF gave him a package pile driver on the stairs.
No,
the coffin drop. Darby does the coffin drop, backwards
off the top rope onto the apron. MGF moves, Darby hits the
apron. Then MJF turns the stairs over sideways, it gives
him a package pile driver on the stairs. Looked great
as a hospitalization angle to lead to a fucking big match.
I'm in favor of it. In the first five minutes of a 25-minute match,
I'm not in favor of it. It's fucking stupid.
And then they believe by doing these big moves and then selling for a minute and then getting up and everybody's acting like nothing's wrong that that's selling.
Besides the fact that the referee is standing there staring, they're laying on the floor for a minute at a time.
And the referee's just walking back and forth, looking at one and looking at the other.
Not counting.
Is there no count out?
this no disqualification too?
The announcers even said, well, I think the referee's giving them a little leeway.
A little leeway.
At one point, they left the ring for three fucking minutes.
So after the package pile driver, then Darby was up and in control and hopping around.
And then when it's convenient, they both sold forever because they had to because they did moves.
It couldn't possibly in any way, shape or form, be real.
and a human would live through it.
Then they did a series of quick roll-ups over and over,
combination of the old flare stuff that ended in the double bridge up
and the old world of sports stuff,
and it was roll-ups and cradles and bridges.
That shit was great.
And it got a great reaction.
The people were going crazy for it.
It was actual wrestling action,
three minutes after five,
hospitalization angles.
Then they sold for another minute.
Then did you like the cameraman's bump, Brian?
You think the, did the cameraman collect the bonus,
or did they withhold his bonus for almost killing Darby again?
I believe there is currently a lawsuit from a, like, a stagehand who moxley roughed up at
Rigside during one of these things.
So you've got to be careful with these things.
What, don't, that's the point is the, when Darby was going to do another dive.
MJF was supposed to pull the cameraman in the way
and either it's their regular cameraman
and he agreed to do it or they got some job guy
or whatever the fuck.
But the cameraman pushed out at the last minute.
And he bent over and like cringed
and Darby just fucking landed at his feet
on the floor.
And then the cameraman fell down anyway
and sold like he was dead and they carried him out.
I watched the replay three times.
Darby never touched him.
Everybody got his fucking ankle on the way down.
So there's Darby's nearly dead again.
So MJF carries him to the stage,
puts him in a chair and gets the clippers
like he's going to shave his head in the head-shaven chair.
But Darby gets the front face lock.
And he puts MJF out.
And he puts him on the table.
and he climbs the scaffolding, the light rig.
And he coffin dropped MJF off the light rig through the table onto the stage.
And again, they've been out of the ring for two or three minutes.
They sell forever.
The referee just stares.
Darby somehow busted the back of his head open and was bleeding like crazy out of the back of his head.
and at this point, I said, fuck it, I'm going to go two or three minutes,
just see if even if I have no on screen to see if they'll get back in the ring,
because I'm wanting this to be over badly.
So I fast forward a couple of minutes, see if they got back in the ring.
And both of them when it came back up were selling in the ring face first on the mat.
And then MJF got up and grabbed a headlock because they were doing the headlock takeover thing.
saying, I'll beat you with a headlock takeover.
Darby turned the headlock into a scorpion death drop
and went to the top rope, but MJF crouched him and went up
and sat down and some way or another,
Darby was able to squirm over MJF's shoulder
so that he could get a good grip on him.
And he gave him a tombstone pile driver off the fucking buckles.
and then picked him up and took him over at a headlock, one, two, three.
Thank God, it was over.
I'd love to see these two guys have a wrestling match.
I think they could do well.
I ain't seen it yet.
No, they did it.
They did it to open up a pay-per-view like four or five years ago.
It was one of the best matches in AEW at that time.
But this was a different, they've evolved as wrestlers and performers and
Darby is trying to kill himself.
And that's another thing.
Darby Allen just chugs right along.
Logan Paul catches some stupid son of a bitch on a dive,
and he's out for months.
But Darby just keeps going right along.
Did you see the postmatch?
Was it okay?
I didn't know there was postmatch after that point.
It was like two minutes left.
I thought MJF just held his belt up.
Kevin Knight came out and attacked Darby Allen,
including hitting him with a big move while he was on the stretcher.
So Kevin Knight is now a heel.
Talk about beating a dead body.
He's on a stretcher.
He's been killed six times.
Let me splash him.
Okay.
So Kevin Knight, in my opinion,
had worlds of potential as a nice upper card baby face.
So, boy, howdy.
Okay, now he's a heel.
I heard him do his promo the other night on Dynamite,
and if that's his promo, he should have stayed a baby face,
because if he's going to try to be a heel and he talks like that,
he got a long road to hoe.
Well, Jim, that was AEW double or nothing, 2026.
On the topic of AEW, several listeners have sent this in
this is an article from
Fightful.com, the headline
the headline
Kevin Knight
says Speedball
Mike Bailey is to
pro wrestling what Albert
Einstein is to science.
What can I say
about Speedball Mike Bailey? This was an interview
apparently Kevin Knight did with
Sir Wilkins,
whoever that may be.
Sir Wilkins.
What I said
about Speedball Mike Bailey, he's what pro wrestling is to what Albert Einstein is to science.
Christ on a crack.
He's what Dion Sanders.
This guy's a middle case, too.
He's what Deion Sanders is to swag.
You know what I'm saying?
No, I don't.
He knows pro wrestling inside and out.
Like, you ask him about any match, about any style, and he knows exactly who curated.
that style. Exactly who came up with it. He knows all the moves, everything. Let me stop there.
Any thoughts on this? Yes, but I'm not sure I can say them all even on fucking podcast or I might get
banned. I think he's a fucking simpleton. And we've now understand that this is the kind of people
they're letting in the wrestling business that don't know any more about it than to think that
spitball Bailey would be a goddamn genius.
Well, it says here also,
Speedball is that savant,
that great wrestling mind that I've been so blessed to work with
these past few weeks, last few months.
That's what's been a fucking albatross around his neck
is having Ricky Steamboat's daughter tied to him like a fucking anchor.
He's got some goddamn potential.
Now they've sabotaged him, turning him heel,
when the best part about his presentation is his flashy moves and his smile.
he can't talk
but he's going to have to try to get heat as a heel
and
he's been paired up with this goddamn
diminutive troll that lives under
a bridge or works at the
Kebler factory
Jesus Christ
Well again it tells you something about the way
some people in the locker room think about who's a wrestling
savant and who gets it and who understands it
and who doesn't
that's the Kevin Knight update
But now that this
daygum five-hour mini-series
was over with Brian, I understand
the people couldn't get out.
They couldn't get away. They wanted
to keep them there against their will.
They were kidnapped, tied up,
taken away and held for ransom. They could not
leave.
I saw several people
on social media with videos
of a large gathering
of AEW fans in the middle of the night.
Standing in the middle of Queens,
it almost seemed like AI, like, you know,
show me a gathering of people who have no idea where to
and they're all just bumping into each other.
It's just a bunch of people.
You can't really tell what they're aiming towards.
Apparently, there was a subway down over there.
Let me go, I have an article here.
Well, now, here, and as I saw something online,
that it was instructions, well, for the people who want to go,
where you take the L train to the M train to the Q subway
to get off at the such and such station
for the transfer to the X stop.
How do people find their way around up there?
I don't understand.
I understand public transportation in terms of you get on a bus, right?
Or you take a cab or whatever.
But these trains and railroads and subways,
you've got to switch and go this direction and that direction.
That has to be the most nerve-wracking experience.
I can't imagine that.
I've never in my entire life lived somewhere where I could,
could not just drive somewhere and go under my own power.
And I know that that's why the environment is trashed because of too many emissions.
But how do you find your way around with all of this bullshit that you have to do up there?
You're a veteran of that kind of shit.
I mean, it's pretty simple.
I mean, it's more about just what are you willing to suffer through?
I'm a car person.
So I always, even when I was doing stuff in Manhattan or Brooklyn,
I always wanted to drive.
I tried to avoid mass transit unless I absolutely had to, you know, once I had a license.
But some people, that's, you know, how they get around the York.
Some people don't have a car or a license and it's mass transit.
I would be panicked on a 24-hour basis like I was trapped.
to, like, if I didn't have access to a car to leave and go where I needed to go or go home if I wanted to,
I've never, obviously never been on the subway and never will.
I'm not going underground, especially in New York, is way too much weight on the top of it.
I've never, we took the train one time, me and the Midd Out Express from Philadelphia to New Haven,
and that was an experience.
We took trains in the United Kingdom from town to town,
but I've never been on a bus or a train
as far as a public transportation type of thing.
I just, you're helpless.
You're out there alone.
And like I was telling you earlier,
Madison Square Garden, right under Madison Square Garden is the Long Island Railroad.
Is a lot of subways, is a lot of subways.
There are a lot of subways that connect through Madison Square Garden, and there's a few that it's just a few blocks away.
You can get a taxi very easily there compared to other places in New York.
And you go into the Flushing Meadows area where the stadiums are.
It's another issue.
I have an article here from no-dq.com.
A.W fans dealt with issues leaving the stadium after double or nothing pay-per-view event by Aaron Rift.
Several fans reported issues leaving
AW double or nothing 26 at Louis Armstrong Stadium
following the event.
One claimed that thousands of attendees were stuck on a bridge
outside the venue after a gate was closed.
I'm sorry to laugh.
Thousands of people were stuck on a bridge.
Okay, I'm sorry. I don't know why that got me, just the idea, hey, where's everyone going that way?
All right, let's follow them, but then eventually they all are stuck on the bridge.
Others noted that fans were being funneled onto a single ramp for access to the train and parking lots
with no visible crowd control assistance from the MTA or NYPD.
Another attendee complained that the event ended too late, resulting in limited train access after
1 a.m.
One fan said they avoided the congestion by leaving the bridge area early,
finding another route to the stadium,
finding another route around the stadium,
and quickly securing a lift while many other fans remain stranded
waiting for the gate to reopen.
So let's stop there for a moment.
Any thoughts on all this?
And again, you know, the Long Island Railroad
in its best of moments, if you don't catch the train, you can wait a while.
Usually that happens if you're going through Penn Station, it's the middle of the night.
If you miss like the 240, you're there until 520, just a long gap of misery.
Just awful, awful, awful.
If you're drunk, oh, terrible, just terrible.
I, well, you remember, I always had to get, have Stacy give me a Xanax when we went to
New York, okay, 45 minutes from the bridge, give me a Xanax, or I'm going to have a goddamn meltdown
just trying to get into that open-air pinball machine. And I can't imagine being stuck somewhere
in the middle of the night with no transportation anywhere. Again, the subways are always running,
but it's also about where people are going and where people think they're going. And I could tell you
from my own experience, that area at night,
If you don't know where you're going, you can get lost really easily.
And, you know, the report we just read said that there weren't anyone,
there wasn't anyone from the NYPD or MTA around directing people.
If you don't have that and you don't know where exactly you're going,
yeah, it's going to be a problem.
This video of all these people standing around on the bridge is fucking hysterical
just because they're not going to go anywhere.
But, that's terrible.
We go, we sit in this building for five hours watching us wrestling.
we get out, we're just standing in the streets.
But if they're going to go back and they should,
I'm pretty certain this will be something Tony Con has to find a way to fix,
and I'm sure he will.
I don't know what you do, do you bus people to a subway station that's open?
I think just buy 15,000 limousines.
Treat everybody good.
Just raise the tickets 10 bucks apiece.
Treat everybody good.
Andy Kaufman would do that way, you know, milk and cookies on your way out.
Yeah, only Tony's a billionaire.
He can afford the limousine.
All right, Jim.
well, that was AW double or nothing.
Let's ride on over across the street.
Again, songs will be back.
Send your submissions.
Corny Drive-thru at gmail.com questions next week.
More classic wrestling.
Jim, WWRWA.
No Smackdown this week.
We did not watch it.
We decided to save ourselves the fresh news.
Well, there was a Friday night show, a Saturday night show,
a Sunday night show, a Sunday night show.
Well, fuck, we've already forgotten about Friday.
Let's talk about WWE Raw last night as we are recording.
Let's talk about two segments.
from Raw, the first and the last, because again, my boy, Logan Paul, my team.
They've heard Logan Paul now, so we got screwed out of him for a while, even if he's a real
life dick, at least they were exciting in the ring.
But Paul E. Opened the show, Paul Heyman, talking about the big rematch with Brock Lester and
Oba Femi.
And he pitched to a tape of Brock, doing a little bit of.
sit down interview, putting the ass weapon that he got over, but he said, I said, after that,
I said, that's it, I'm done.
But that doesn't sit well with me.
It's not going to end that way.
Then why did you do it to begin with?
Yeah, you ended it.
Yes, you ended it.
This is the, God damn it.
He's not even saying, why did I do that?
He said, it's not going to end this way that I wanted it to end.
I can take an ass whipping.
Can you?
And that was his statement to Oba.
Have you heard the story that's being put out?
We didn't even get to discuss this.
But somebody's putting out the story,
and it may just be that,
but goddamn, a lot of stupid, ridiculous things happen these days.
Remember the idea I had where Heyman should force Brock back in the ring
because he's got his contract and he wants to make more money out of him
and he's a cash cow.
Yeah.
Apparently, the WWE, according if you're believing this story that people are putting out,
it's not an angle with them.
They were like, fuck you, you ain't retiring, we'll take you to court for breach of contract.
Have you heard anything about this?
And then Brock will join the NFL.
Oh, no, that's what I said again last time they did this game.
I had not heard that.
No, I did not hear that.
And it is, it could be bullshit.
it. Again, it was written on the internet.
But the thing is, why there has still been no explanation,
and I'm wondered if we're ever going to get one when they get to Minneapolis,
SummerSlam, Brock's hometown, will it all become clear then?
If it doesn't become clear, then there may be something to that story.
And remember everybody, the announcers didn't put it,
over but they had to talk about it.
It seemed like
that it caught everybody somewhat off
guard. Was it
Brock saying, this is good for
me, I'm done? And then they came back and
said, no motherfucker
we got plans.
If it wasn't
that, then why can't
they tie this into the story?
Why is the story now?
Brock is retired,
but here's a contract with
his name on it for Italy because he wants to fight.
Why did he say, I said that's it, I'm done, but I'm not going to let it in that way.
So they go back to Paul in the ring and he plugs the pay-per-view match again, says,
Oba has awakened the beast, and that means one thing that Oba's music is going to play.
And Oba came out and backed Paul in the corner and Paul was, you know, trembling.
And oh, please don't touch me.
and Oba said a couple of different times,
what do you think he has a woken in me?
A woken.
And he said to, he told Paul,
I need you alive and well to tell the tale of when I retire Brock for the second time.
And then he signed the contract on Paul's chest and said,
last time I was fighting to beat him,
now I'm fighting to kill him.
And the fans, when they heard that, there was just the very faintest of it.
Like, they used to say in the territory days, don't say you're going to kill somebody because nobody will believe it.
Now nobody believes anything.
And he actually said he was going to kill it.
Even for Oba that didn't get over.
We just talked about it and I just watched it, Dream Machine yelling, I'll kill you to Jerry Lawler.
you believed it.
That you believed
because you thought
he had lost his
fucking mind
because of the way
that the whole thing
transpired
and you thought
this guy's
he's fucking flipped.
But this Oba's like
no,
I'm going to kill him now.
But I should
Brock shouldn't
beat Oba in Italy
unless they're going to do
a third match.
If they're not going to do
a third match,
then Oba better win, in which case I don't know why they brought this back because they couldn't
hardly put him over him better the first time. And as I mentioned when I talked about the idea of
Heyman being one to force him back, when you have a top heel, do a job clean for a top baby face
right before you turn that heel baby face, then the baby face that got put over gets the
benefit of it.
But then the people
they lose, they don't think about it
so much because now their heel is
a baby face and they're involved
in what he's doing now.
So it's a way to give him
and out. A lot of times
the last program that a
top heel in a territory
would have before he turned baby face
was to put a fucking
a baby face
over.
But I don't
and they got
SummerSlam is in Brock's hometown
so that means that
well if Brock wins this one but they have a third
then Oba's got to win in Brock's hometown
why not I don't understand
what's going on here
AI booking
and then
we go to the close of the program
because all it was in the middle was just a bunch of
annoying wrestling with underneath talent.
Jacob Fattu and Roman Rains are going to talk to each other again
because it works out so well every week they've done it until now.
Jacob signed a contract in the ring with Adam Pierce to make tribal combat official.
Brian, how can the WWE have a contract for a tribal combat?
if I wouldn't that shouldn't they have done the thing where they meet over the campfire and
slice each other's fucking palm and do the blood oath thing that they even referred to in this
promo?
Oh, I don't know.
How can you sign a corporate contract with a publicly traded company to have a goddamn
Samoan fight to the finish?
I just hope they don't have a strict athletic commission in Italy because then we may have a
problem.
Well, then they won't be able to use the
Lola Falana.
The Italian JJ Binns.
Boy, he was something, too.
He was, you know,
a television and movie star.
Remember he got the spot in Rocky?
And he was on a couple of other
TV shows of that
fucking slick back
gray hair that he looked like a
goddamn dressed up
cryptkeeper with those sunken eyes and those weird facial features.
And he was a celebrity in his own mind, I mean his own right.
Anyhow.
So Jacob signed the contract and then threw out the table in the chairs and
menaced the security.
And then Roman came out and he signed the contract and the fans sang his name.
I just don't know what now, because we've talked about how Jacob was a baby face because the people liked him because he was wild.
Then they cleaned him up and he wasn't wild anymore and it kind of muted him.
Now they're trying to make him wild again.
But his reasoning for wanting to beat up Roman and take the title was so his kids could afford the good schools and he could afford the plane and the,
blah, blah, blah.
But Roman has been a condescending prick,
along with putting the Uso's back under his thumb.
He's wanted to keep Jacob under his thumb,
but yet somehow the people are still reacting to Roman as a baby face,
even though he's all about, I will make you acknowledge me.
I will make you
you subservient to me
and then
and I'll domesticate you
but Jacob
now his promo
was like acknowledge you
like everybody else right here
hell no I'm not like everybody else
now you are the reason
that our family lives the life it does
you took the whole family to the
promised land
but you could only take us so far.
How much farther can you go than the Promise Land?
In the Promised Land, Brian, where you get unlimited milk and honey and 72 virgins with a
subscription to the Playboy Channel?
I don't know if that still exists, Playboy Channel.
I hadn't thought about that in so many years.
The point is, now, before he said, I want to beat you so I could afford the good shit for my
family, and now he's saying you've taken our entire family.
family to the promised land, but I'm still going to fuck you up because it's time for a change
and I can do better.
And in Jacob, they made him get too wordy.
And you could see that he was trying, but he's not a person that needs to speak extemporaneously
on a goddamn subject with a lot of detail.
And the verbiage was flowery.
There's still no concrete reason going on here.
that they're articulating.
But since Roman cheated at backlash,
it's anything goes now and I'm going to beat you.
And that's what Roman said,
I'm going to make you serve me
and then you're going to love your tribal chief.
Like the Stockholm syndrome.
But then Jacob,
and I'll let you comment on this,
because Jacob's final statement then was,
okay, if you beat me,
hey, I still got a job
out here nothing changes oh good lord i couldn't believe i heard him say that but if i beat you everybody
will acknowledge me so it's a he said it's a it's a it's a win-win for me he was trying to say it's a
win-win you can tell that jacob fatu was fed the line it's a win-win it's not something he'd normally
say but should the baby face be saying that well fuck if you beat my ass i said i
still got a job.
But if I beat you, then
they'll acknowledge me. And then they shook hands
and touched foreheads.
What the fuck is all his shit
going on?
I don't give a shit I win either way is a weird
argument from the baby faith. Is he a baby face? I don't even
know who's a baby. Yeah, I don't know.
And then it's starting to be like they're all a bunch of pricks.
I'm not sure I want anybody to succeed.
My job's safe.
I can now just do whatever I want.
I don't give a shit if I win or lose.
I just wanted the contract?
What is the whole message here?
I don't know.
Somehow this feud gets worse and worse every week.
There's a segment every week where they talk to each other.
Usually, or sometimes a fight breaks out a few times, but they talk to each other so much.
Well, now here, at least they said they weren't allowed to fight and get physical because Roman said he's agreed to the tribal
He's made the blood oath.
I'm like, I would have rather seen the blood oath.
Well, that was, uh,
WW, uh, raw.
Hey, you know what, Jim, one last thing before we wrap things up.
I apologize if you hear my mouse moving, but why don't we preview the pay-per-view this
weekend?
I forgot.
There's that there.
Jim, WWE clash in Italy.
Coming up Sunday, May 31st, 2026.
I think it's 2 p.m. Eastern.
time is the kickoff.
Here's the lineup for the show, as of now, five matches.
For the undisputed WWE Championship, the champion Cody Rhodes versus Gunther.
I'm looking forward to this, just for a, and like the kids get to watch good matches that they
think are good and say, oh, it's a good match, so this is going to be a good match.
I don't know about the way they got into it or, you know, whatever,
but Gunther is always excellent.
Cody's a big show guy.
It'll be a fine match, and Cody obviously is going to win it.
We're seeing him, punk.
I don't know, but I wish he'd come back soon.
Jim, for the WW Women's Championship,
the champion, Ria Ripley versus Jade Cargill.
I just, I wish they would get finished with this.
I don't know at this point who Ria can work with.
We've seen her in Charlotte.
I don't know who else I'm really excited about her working with,
but it sure ain't Jade Cargill.
Not that this is the place or the time,
but you know who they brought up to the main roster
or they're about to who's pretty good, I think?
The former Mariah Mae, now she's Blake Monroe,
there you go
that might be something
might be something
Jim in tribal combat for the World
Heavyweight Championship the champion
Roman Reins versus
Jacob Fatu
see that
I wish they'd have made this
the tribal combat but not for the title
because the W.W.E. title
can't be decided in such a
dangerous or unusual
or unique kind of match
because then Jacob could be
him, but Roman still be the champion, and there's a bone of contention.
Now, unless they're just, say, fuck it, it doesn't matter anymore, they're going to beat Jacob
twice in a row.
Well, let's see what happens.
It's pretty hard to fathom the other conclusion, which will be Jacob winning the title
from Roman Reins and becoming the tribal chief in Italy.
In Italy.
Jim, for the Intercontinental or the Women's Intercontinental Championship, the champion
Becky Lynch versus Saul Ruka.
Now fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Are we going to believe this again?
At a minimum, we have to see if she's going to hit the Saul Snatcher.
But I mean, are we going to believe it or are they going to bait and switch us again?
We're going to decide we're going to watch this and it's three minutes with a fucking
bullshit finish.
I would say, let's see what they can do.
I would say what they can come up.
match show, but they just did that on a five match show.
They just did that on a five match show.
We'll see what they, what they come up with here.
One more time, we'll give them.
Jim finally, Obafemi versus Brock Lesnar.
Again, we just talked about, I don't understand.
And I wouldn't beat Brock twice in a row,
unless especially if
SummerSlam or Minnesota is going to be
his retirement match or he's only got a few left
I wouldn't have the same guy
beat him twice in a row
I would spread that out
I you know
I think Oba's got to win but who knows
and there it is that's WWE's clash
That's it? That's everything
That's everything
