Starting point is 00:00:00 Sounds like he's playing with clobin hoobs. Is he still talking? All right, hello. Hello again, friends. And you are our friends. We're screaming. The screaming stops. The fun begins.
Starting point is 00:00:40 I'm the great bride last. This is Jim Cornett's drive-through. And we have so much to get through to and through. Yeah, yeah. With this man, with this man, Troublemaker number one, the leader of the cult of Cornet, Mr. Jim Cornett. That's right. me and James Brown used to team up.
Starting point is 00:00:58 He was Soul Brother number one, and I was troublemaker number one. Woo! Jump back. Got to kiss myself. One time. It sounded like you were playing that selection with cloven hooves, not fingers. Because you just hit everything. Do you have your hand in a cast?
Starting point is 00:01:19 It was a very deliberate attempt to play a loose version of the usual theme to the Great Brian last that we begin the show with. So it wasn't as loose as a goose. It wasn't as firm and as tight as it could be as it usually is, but it was intentional. It was intentional. It was intentionally not tight. Who were you to criticize jazz?
Starting point is 00:01:41 I mean, come on now. I'm not going to criticize jazz or her husband, Red Dog. But you, sir, are a different story. I'm cold. I'm freezing, I'm shaking, I'm shivering. My teeth are. clattering together.
Starting point is 00:02:01 You hear that? We have had in the first 20 days of September in Louisville, Kentucky, it was 90 degrees or above 14 of them. We went all summer and we were like
Starting point is 00:02:18 14 short of our normal average 90 degree days here in Louisville and then they all came in the first three weeks of September. and now from 100 or 98 or whatever the official temperature was a couple days ago, it was in the 50s this morning. It may get down to the 40s in the next couple of mornings,
Starting point is 00:02:43 and it's cold and gloomy. It's a cold, cruel world, Brian, that we live in. It's either too hot or too hot. It's just like the wrestling. It's either too much or too little. We can't have it just right. All right. Well, we're going to have fun today. I guess that's what we're trying to say here. Yeah, yeah. Well, I've been checking around the news. I've got some fun news to report.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Because, you know, Brian, like I said, it's a cold cruel world, not only the temperature, but people are always saying to me, why don't you ever go out anymore? You know, the scuttle butt, Brian, is our coronet, doesn't go out in public, he didn't make appearances. He's still scared of COVID. I'm not still scared of I'm wary of COVID because as you may recall me and States both got COVID Christmas 2024 and I was miserable and I don't want to do that again
Starting point is 00:03:42 so but thanks to the fact that I was vaccinated and boosted I was not intubated and morgated hospitalized I just was fucking sniffly and shivery but I don't want to do that again, but it's under control now, although it's still there. Some people still cling to the
Starting point is 00:04:05 foolishness that it didn't happen. Wouldn't bad. There's a million people died of the flu in the United States alone, but it wasn't bad. But now, Brian, what is worth going out in the world for these days? I got to ask you, because besides illnesses, you know, we're in America, you're a good chance of going out in public getting shot by one of these right wing gun nuts blowing off steam. And now you got a good chance of getting shot by the federal government.
Starting point is 00:04:42 Blowing off steam. And the extreme left wing nuts, same thing, blowing off steam. Yeah, but they blow off steam with picket sign. No, they shoot too. Let's be honest. It's, you know, it's the problem with the extremes right now. Well, we've got to.
Starting point is 00:04:58 extremes, that's what I said. It's either too hot or too cold. It's not just right. But you might get shot. And I'm thinking, well, you know, there's a 3.5 out of 10 chance that I'll unknowingly interact with a maggot. So there's that. But then I think maybe Brian, I'll just go to a movie. Maybe just go to a movie. Sit in the dark anonymously. That'll be a thing to do. Don't have to sign no autographs, don't have to, you know, interact with other people, just watch the screen, right? Eat popcorn? When's the last time you've been to a movie?
Starting point is 00:05:37 I went to see the Coyote versus Acme with the kids, maybe three weeks ago, a month ago, whenever it came out, that weekend. Is that good? I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the hell out of it. And the kids did too, and they know from Me TV tunes who all the characters are. I will say, we saw another couple and their kids there that we know. Other than that, it was all adults.
Starting point is 00:05:56 that were no kids there. It was good, though. I don't have to get the DVD of that. I didn't want to. I enjoyed it. And John Cena actually was really good. It was really good. It was really well done.
Starting point is 00:06:06 But you weren't seeing this movie at an AMC theater in Southern California. No, it was an AMC theater here in New Jersey. Well, if you were in Southern California, listen to this. This is why you don't want to go to the movies now, folks. A moviegoer was arrested last week after allegedly pepper spraying another patron over self- phone use during a movie at an AMC theater in Southern California.
Starting point is 00:06:30 Pepper spray. An incident that left three people needing medical treatment and set off a fresh online argument over how far theater etiquette should go. Hold on. I just want to clarify, it wasn't staff. It was another, it were two patrons. Yeah, yes, yeah, they were, they were, these two youths. Burbank police arrested Matthew Ware, possibly the son of Cocoa Ware, 34
Starting point is 00:06:56 of Los Angeles during a showing of the uprising. Joe Rodriguez, a moviegoer who witnessed the incident, said he heard the hiss of an aerosol spray about 40 minutes into the film, followed by a man yelling that he had been pepper sprayed. What just happened, Rodriguez recalled, thinking as he got up to alert a theater employee. Rodriguez said the man who was sprayed
Starting point is 00:07:20 had been using his cell phone with the brightness turned down. I guess you can do that. where reportedly approached him and asked him to turn the phone off the man refused and where allegedly sprayed him does it have ages well the the guy that was arrested was 34 years old the that's where i don't think they have to report that's that's no that that was that's where it's southern california is 34 that's the person who did the pepper spraying he's 34 no southern california is older than that no where not not yes yeah what was his name cocoa's uh oh alleged illegitimate kid.
Starting point is 00:07:57 Robert Ware. Matthew, Matthew Ware. Matthew Ware. Where was where when this happened? This is the worst. Nevertheless. Nevertheless. As the story spread online, moviegoers argued over the same question that has been
Starting point is 00:08:14 playing out in theaters, concert halls, and comedy clubs for years. What can we reasonably expect from strangers sitting around us? Not to be pepper sprayed. they're talking about etiquette. This was a goddamn criminal assault. Yeah. And it says AMC has a policy, no talking, yelling, disruptive behavior,
Starting point is 00:08:36 use of electronic devices, whatever. At the beginning of the movie, there is a video they put up, because I've seen a few movies at AMC theaters in the last few months, and it was every time telling you to please turn off your phone, have consideration for the other people around you.
Starting point is 00:08:49 Now lay back and enjoy, recline and enjoy this presentation. I have seen that also. I never do it. because I would have to get up and walk out to the parking lot and get in my fucking truck to get to my phone because why am I going to use a phone in a goddamn movie theater? You go to the movie theater, you get like, you know, the usual,
Starting point is 00:09:07 20 minutes of previews, and then you get a few minutes of like Coca-Cola or something. And then you get like a series of commercials about the theater while you're in the theater. Yes. I'm here already. I don't need Nicole Kidman to tell me how magical it would be if I went to the theater. I'm in the theater. I just want to hear,
Starting point is 00:09:24 let's all go to the lobby let's all go to the lobby let's all go to the lobby and get ourselves a snack or pepper spray or pepper spray apparently or pepper spray yeah but there's this whole debate
Starting point is 00:09:41 over should people use phones and theaters and there's no debate apparently about should people pepper spray people for using a phone in the theater yeah that was a gigantic escalation the guy could have literally just gone to someone who works there and said something And if you can't just fuck you to somebody or even punch them, but pepper spray?
Starting point is 00:09:59 There's too many people that behave like you trying to get back to the locker room in Mid-South, like in everyday situations, like where there's no reason for this. They were in between me and the locker room. I had to do something. But nevertheless, yeah, so that happened over there. But, hey, that's all the way out in Southern California, Brian. That's a long way from me. You know, maybe I ought to just go to a concert.
Starting point is 00:10:23 You know, over here in Louisville, the past two weekends, they have the two big, for whatever reason, they're one weekend apart from each other. The two big music festivals of the goddamn entire state all year, I think maybe one of the biggest in the country. Louder than life is one weekend, and then the next weekend is bourbon and beyond. How far are those from you? How far are those from your house? The fairground's 15 miles. and the louder than life, it was 96 degrees. And old Mark Weinberg, the weather guru, was telling people,
Starting point is 00:10:57 hey, be sure you drink water and you're hydrated and you do this, do that, and find all the things that these people are going to be too drunk and high to do to begin with. A bourbon and beyond the temperature was lovelier, lovelier, right? apparently someone was injured are you ready for this story this was just on the news this morning there's a woman sitting in the
Starting point is 00:11:24 because it's a big, it's out of the fairgrounds and they got multiple stages and people just sit around as it's like Woodstock in Kentucky they just sit around on the ground they just wander around to do whatever they want there's lewdness
Starting point is 00:11:37 and all kinds of improper activity this woman who has come up here from somewhere down south is sitting cross-legged on the ground talking to a friend of hers her husband is standing a few feet in front of her talking to somebody or doing something all of a sudden he hears somebody behind him or here's something behind him and he turns around and a guy who has climbed a tree for some reason to get a better view or because
Starting point is 00:12:08 he goddamn needed the air, I don't know, has fallen out of the tree and falling on this woman and fucking fucked her up. And they took her to the hospital and gave her back surgery and she is paralyzed from the waist down. Oh my God. From a guy falling on her out of a fucking tree while she was sitting on a ground mind in her own business.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Oh my God, that's horrible. That's also a giant, as a matter of fact, Stephen P. New alert. Get on this case. Because this fucking show, drew a goddamn hell of crowds. They got money to spend. But can you believe that?
Starting point is 00:12:44 Are there a lot of trees? Are there a lot of trees on the grounds of where they had this concert? Well, I have not done a goddamn landscaping map on the entire fairgrounds, which covers 100 acres, if not more. But they were somewhere where there was a tree that a guy could climb far enough to fall out on it, fall out of it, and fall on this woman and paralyzing. So look up too If you're outside
Starting point is 00:13:16 Look down because you don't want to fall in a fucking sinkhole Oh my God Did you see Nicholas Cage's house? Have you seen that? Is it in a sinkhole? The driveway apparently I want to say it's Malibu or whatever It's someplace out there in California on the water The driveway turned into a giant sinkhole
Starting point is 00:13:37 And it just keeps growing and it's gigantic, and now they had to tell the neighbors they have to leave their houses. So, yeah, you do have to worry about that. You got to look down, you got to look up. So if anybody wonders why Jim Cornett doesn't travel the country anymore,
Starting point is 00:13:58 it's because my neck is too bad to keep looking down and looking up. I've got a 5,000 square foot house filled with 25,000 hours of classic wrestling on video and two warm puppies and a wife, I'll stay away from falling people and flying bullets and fucking confectuous diseases. Confectious, contagious, infectious. You know, if something's both contagious and infectious,
Starting point is 00:14:25 they ought to call it confectuous. They had a woman on the news yesterday from Long Island who was walking in her backyard and all of a sudden, you wouldn't call it a sinkhole, but a hole opened up and she fell into a cesspool. And she was in the ground and all of a sudden her neighbors were outside and they just hear someone yelling for help and they can't find her because no one thinks I'll look in the ground. So they're like, where are you? Keep screaming.
Starting point is 00:14:53 That video like from the rig camera. Where are you? I'm in the puddle of ship. And that's how she met her neighbors. They said that's how she met them. They were down there too. When did they get there? They had fallen in the day before.
Starting point is 00:15:08 It's a scary world. You can't go anywhere and do anything. Remember the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. They have the, that's where the big Corvette plant is for whatever reason in Boling Green, and they have the museum there, and they had rare corvettes from over the years, different makes and models, years, whatever, originals, one of a kinds worth hundreds of thousands of dollars each, and a sinkhole opened up under the fucking museum. Because they're not that far from Mammoth Cave.
Starting point is 00:15:42 And as many people may know, Kentucky has, if not the longest, one of the longest continuous underground cave systems in the world. Oh, wow, I didn't know that. Fearheaded by Mammoth Cave. Oh, my God. Cave City, Kentucky, Horse Cave, Kentucky. Mammoth Cave Park. They have tourists millions a year.
Starting point is 00:16:07 Floyd Collins, for God's sake. you don't remember Floyd you don't remember Floyd Collins I don't know Floyd Collins no Floyd Collins was the most famous man in the United States of America for I want to say two or three weeks I got to get the book again
Starting point is 00:16:28 in like 1937 he was an explorer just an amateur caves balunker and got trapped trying to find because that was the gold mine back then when they were just starting the National Park system and Mammoth Cave, everybody wanted to find a new entrance to Mammoth Cave that was on their property out in the woods so that they could be a tourist attraction and sell tickets and cash in, right? So all these fucking hillbillies from central Kentucky were just crawling around in caves
Starting point is 00:17:02 in the 20s and 30s. and Floyd Collins got stuck and he got to, and they couldn't get it. They found him, but they couldn't get him out. And it became a goddamn national news story and crews from all over the country and people with ideas of, I know how to get him out. And they were talking to him in this fucking hole down in the cave,
Starting point is 00:17:29 and they were sending him whatever they could in the way of water or whatever, but they couldn't, they didn't get him out. He's still there. And, but for a couple weeks, that was all over the news all across the country. Floyd Collins trapped in the cave. There's books written about it. Brian, you're not educated.
Starting point is 00:17:49 You need to learn something. I don't know my Kentucky cave history at all. I need to learn more about all this. There is actually, there is a Floyd Collins cave, I believe. As a matter of fact, down there. If I run into Floyd. Yeah. I'll tell him you said hello, because that's the only place I think you can go now and be safe as a cave,
Starting point is 00:18:12 but only if it's been explored. Yeah, it doesn't sound like these caves are too safe, but I don't know. Well, no, this was a goddamn hole in the ground that he crawled into. You know, it's not like the modern tourist mammoth caves, a multimillion-dollar proposition with thousands and thousands of tourists a year. I've been there when I was a kid. last time Stacey and I tried to go we were driving through
Starting point is 00:18:37 and we thought we'd stop and the goddamn line was out the ass and it was a two-hour thing and we'd go in a cave? This one, it's been there all that time and they haven't had any incidents. I wouldn't go with if there was some guy an overall sitting under a fucking redbud tree
Starting point is 00:18:59 with a sign that said cave tours 50 cents, I'd probably pass that one up. But if anything did happen to you, either you or your heirs would own the state of Kentucky. Oh, what a great deal that would be. Well, God, we could at least sell it for parts. Come on.
Starting point is 00:19:20 Well, Jim, speaking of parts and great deals. Cornett's collectibles at Jim Cornett.com, one business in the state of Kentucky that we can all be proud of. About time to get there, isn't it? Yes, ladies and gentlemen? Yes, sir, E. Bob, you betchaum, howdy. Go to Jimcornet.com right now, and you can see pictures, pictures,
Starting point is 00:19:42 and written words about all the stuff that is on sale this year for the holiday sale at Cornets Collectibles at Jimcoranet.com, including the portfolios of the digitally remastered photos that I carefully crafted of the great wrestling legends from my original negatives, that information you can see that. the autobiography of Luthez Hooker, the special reissue by Scott Teal and Crowbar Press, Kit Balman,
Starting point is 00:20:11 Lou's co-author, added extra material. There's 200-some pictures. We've got sale prices. If you buy heroes and friends, you get a behind the curtain for only $10. Santa Corny's only $295. And, as I mentioned on the last program, we did the final Bobby.
Starting point is 00:20:32 eaten autographs. We've got one each of like six different things. And they're going to go quick obviously because not only is there only one of them, but all the money goes to the midnight and or their families for Christmas. And so much more. Go now and read up on this stuff. And the sales starts Saturday, October 3rd at noon Eastern. That's when everything goes live. And then shortly after that, Hotchka's Feather Bottom will be dead. because he's going to be slam. Metaphorically speaking, let's hope he has a metaphorical life. You've said such horrible
Starting point is 00:21:08 things about this man on the show. Let's not do that. Well, no, he got a jiblet transplant over at Norton Hospital. He's feeling better. Yeah, he had a bad jiblet. It runs in a family. Well, support that family, and Jim's too. Cornett's collectibles at jimcornet.com. All right, well, let's move on here, jiblet. What's the year laughing at the man's misfortune.
Starting point is 00:21:33 I'm laughing at the jiblet, but uh... He was a poster boy when he was younger for the National Giblet Foundation. All right, well, once again, Cornett's collections. A jiblet is a terrible thing to waste. Jim, cornet.com. Jim, as we get going here, I want to give a plug to a new book that has landed on my desk
Starting point is 00:21:52 by a longtime friend of mine, as well as someone who has been a featured player on Arcadian Vanguard throughout the years. Jeff Boudron, his new book, the best of the 80s, one man's choices for the best matches of a decade of change. This is, I guess, a play on Jeff's famous list
Starting point is 00:22:11 in the Observer Yearbook. Well, I was about saying the title is about as long as the book, but the origination of this is that Jeff Boudron undertook, and I've known Jeff for years also, and wonderful fellow from Florida, he undertook the massive task of trying to list the hundred greatest matches of the 80s,
Starting point is 00:22:37 at least those ones that were either available in some form on video that people have seen or that in some cases I think there was a few house shows, but that a lot of people were there and spread the word of it, whatever. You know, when you and I try to go through these lists, I could never do this because it would take me the rest of my life to narrow it down. But anyway, now this book is a reexamination of some of the matches on that list that he has discussed with his friends and our friends, your friends, my friends, all of us are all friends, of discussions of these very self-same matches. Because he sent me one too, so that's what I wanted to chip in there. Well, that's right.
Starting point is 00:23:25 And of course, you know, this list that he put together in 1989 to encapsulate the decade did leave off stuff just because not everything, like you said, was available. But that list led to so many people chasing matches, looking for things they weren't already exposed to. The list got around. It was a very popular tape on tape trading lists in the early 90s and throughout the 90s. And Jeff put together that list. So read all about the top matches of the 80s according to Jeff Bauer. Well, the problem is, and Jeff, I'll ask you this on the air because I, as somebody, I know he's probably living public assistance now, but maybe somebody can tell him what we
Starting point is 00:24:04 were talking about him since he doesn't have electricity. But why did he only put down 77 of the top 100 matches that in the book? They discussed 77. I wanted to see all of them, hear all of them, read about all of them. He's milking us for a sequel is what he's doing. Some of the best of the ever, though, discussed here. Patterson versus Slaughter Alley Fight, Dundee and Dream Machine versus Sullivan and Ferris and Louisville.
Starting point is 00:24:31 Von Erick's Freebirds, July 4th, 84. And they make the point also that sometimes it's not the match. It's what happens after the match that elevates it. And it was a regular Memphis tag team match until they had the arena-wide eight-man brawl and shot that giant angle to set up the eight-man tags for the summer. or the flare and carry match. Sometimes how do you pick?
Starting point is 00:24:56 There were so many that were good, but when the cage door got slammed on his head, that kicked things off. They're able to differentiate sometimes, which a lot of people can't. Why that a match is great is not always just what happens bell to bell. I think if you looked at that list and compared it to a list of, let's say, the last 10 years now,
Starting point is 00:25:19 there were more things that looked different then and there are more things that seem the same, the same style, the same pace, whatever it may be now. Yeah. But again, check out this book. It's available on Amazon and wherever, actually just Amazon, I think. But get it from Amazon, Best of the 80s by Jeff.
Starting point is 00:25:38 And wherever Amazon is found. That's where, it's wherever Amazon is found. Best of the 80s, Jeff Boudron. And that's a thing. I think that's why I'm surprised. frustrated we're watching these shows because everything looks the same. And like you mentioned in this book, you have matches from different territories involving different people
Starting point is 00:26:00 with entirely different presentations, and you have scientific classics, and you have Tiger Mask and Dynamite Kid, Junior heavyweight revolutionary stuff, you have brawls, you have bloodbass, you have just wild pro wrestling. Flair Steamboat. I mean, just the entire.
Starting point is 00:26:19 Slaring steamboat. Yeah. Yeah. And it was all different. And it was all exciting at its own way. And because the personalities not only were just allowed to be themselves and everybody said, well, it couldn't be that everybody back then just was such a better personality. No, it's it to people with no personality.
Starting point is 00:26:41 You never saw them because they couldn't get booked. Once again. And people, and people were. trained by different people. Well, I'm just saying they weren't all trained in the performance center or by a bunch of Yehus with a trampoline. They were trained in different ways and they developed different styles because they weren't overproduced
Starting point is 00:27:06 in terms of their performance. They were held in check by the Booker in terms of their personality. They were trained by a variety of veterans, some of whom would just bitch them out or smack them if they did something stupid until they learned. But they were not micromanaged, and that's how they were allowed to develop to be different. And just the simplest thing that, the reason why all those guys back then, every time you watch, even back to the black of white days, it may be different or slower or not to people's
Starting point is 00:27:48 liking, but all those guys had one or two or sometimes three or four, big bumps that they would take. You remember that? And nobody else would take that fucking bump because nobody else could figure out how to do it with Ray Stevens until finally then everybody started stealing that. But there were guys you haven't even heard of that had their own little trademark bumps just because they had figured it out how to do it. And it probably killed anybody else to broke their leg to try.
Starting point is 00:28:21 But that was the variety. And every time you'd see something like, oh, shit, it would be memorable. Now, when's the last time you remember a fucking bump? Because I saw 6,472 last week. Yeah, this period of time, the 80s is really the last decade before the Vince McMahon performance style took over mainstream America. even though he was already the top promoter by the end of the decade
Starting point is 00:28:48 and already was doing major business he was still using the wrestlers from the previous era so they may not be wrestling the action pack matches they would have in Mid-South but there was still enough of that there when it was a whole new crop of guys
Starting point is 00:29:02 and a younger crop of guys it became the WWE style of wrestling and you know separate from the indie style you know it's a lot of that it's a lot of milking a lot of going slow. I mean, whatever.
Starting point is 00:29:17 Yes, but if I may interject because you've hit on something, once that the old-fashioned wrestling fans who didn't like the WWE style just eventually went away. But the ones that were dedicated enough to actually want to get in the business and be wrestlers themselves
Starting point is 00:29:41 so they could do those moves, they got in the business to do the moves and didn't understand because they had not been brought along through the territory system and or mentored by the promoters or the bookers or blistered by the veterans. They made the shit up based on what they'd watched on television. And then that became the indie style. and I don't know that if I'm going to have heart surgery, do I want my surgeon to be the handsomest doctor in the hospital and fucking have tailor-made goddamn scrubs on and the most expensive stethoscope
Starting point is 00:30:29 and take his goddamn sweet time because it's more about how good he looks doing this surgery than how well it turns out. Or do I want a doctor who, God damn, has just watched doctors all his life, but has never been to medical school a day, and is going to fucking gung-ho this and just slice me from asshole to appetite to make sure he gets everything? Does that make any sense?
Starting point is 00:31:01 Actually, does that not make sense? That's my point. It does not make sense. Once again, the 80s. under the last great decades of wrestling the gag the book is on Amazon Best of the 80s by Jeff the Booker
Starting point is 00:31:17 Baldron Baldron the Booker Jim as we move on here want to mention a few passings the first one people may not realize it but has an effect on this show in all my shows Garrett Graham the actor passed away this past week
Starting point is 00:31:33 he's in one of my favorite movies ever Used Cars And in that movie When they interrupt the football feed To do a commercial for their used car dealership He utters the words Hi friends And you are my friends
Starting point is 00:31:51 And that's what caused me to start using it on 605 And of course when we started doing it here It became our friends But Gerrit Graham From used cars and other things just passed away. So I did want to make mention of that because of the line that I'd used to this day came from him and used cars. And he narrowly failed the audition to be the last Graham brother. That spot was taken
Starting point is 00:32:19 by Crazy Luke. Jim, another passing I want to mention, someone you would know, Bruce Swayze passed away just a few days ago, I believe, at the age of 84. And actually I'd gotten a birthday email from my friend Dale Spear, and he had mentioned that, that he just heard that on Facebook or whatever. And beautiful Bruce Swayze, help me, you might even have to Google this, but I swear, I know that there is a story here that he is related to Patrick Swayze. Have you heard that story?
Starting point is 00:32:55 No, I've heard that. I believe he is. I don't think it's... I can't remember what the relation is. obviously Bruce is older, was older, but he was a wrestler and manager. I saw him in person and met him. He came to Tennessee in, I want to say the summer of 77, when Jared had first opened up his own company, was bringing in a lot of different names and guys.
Starting point is 00:33:22 And he worked here for a brief period as a baby face, but he also had been probably more better known as a heel and then later on as a heel manager, he was a heck of a talker. And as I remember, a pretty good worker. I'm trying to think what, gosh, see, that he just missed the video era. Really by the early to mid-80s, he was folding up his career, was he not? He was in the IWA, so there's some footage around from when he worked for Martinez. That's right, in the mid-70s. and he ended up also living for quite some time.
Starting point is 00:34:01 I'm not sure, you know, if he still lived there, but down somewhere in Kentucky around Bowling Green, as I remember. But I'm trying to think of what modern fans might be able to note him for. Wouldn't his last, one of his last runs maybe in Puerto Rico, potentially? And he is the uncle of Patrick Swayze, report. The uncle. There you go. Uncle Bruce. But yes, a nice man, as I recall,
Starting point is 00:34:35 didn't know too much about you. Well, Bruce Swayze, we send our sympathies to his friends and fans. Jim, W.W.E. Raw took place last night as we are recording, so why don't we get that out of our system? Oh, good Lord. All right. Talk about here. Let me just slap this notepad. Hold on. slap this notepad down here in front of me.
Starting point is 00:35:00 What is happening, ladies and shuttle, what I do not know. Well, it's a new, it's a new goddamn strategy we got here on the program to see how little of a shit Cordette gives to go from there. This, I'm just telling you,
Starting point is 00:35:15 talk about too much or not enough. There was practically nothing. Are there any stars, Brian, stars? Do we have any stars? are on Raw because they didn't show any of them. Oh, you can't say that. The Judgment Day and L.A. Night and Uso's.
Starting point is 00:35:36 Oh, I'm talking about stars, baby. It looks like they're trying to make Penta. Yeah, well, good luck. It's like a Rubik's Cube. It'll take you a fucking while. That said, they were in San Antonio. For Raw, this is September 21st. and obviously a lot of people in San Antonio speak Spanish.
Starting point is 00:36:03 And I understand that. But I'm watching this TV show in Kentucky. It's also being broadcast to Montana and Washington State and fucking between the Mexican shows, and I'm not making a racist remark. I'm talking about the shows that emanated from Mexico, the Mexican shows that they did, which there was three or four of them. And this week,
Starting point is 00:36:28 half the fucking interviews are better in Spanish. I don't know what these people are fucking saying. And again, when I mentioned this, they emanated from Mexico City. Yes, I would expect them to be speaking the language of
Starting point is 00:36:46 the country they're into those people, but sometimes it makes for challenging television product here if you want to know what they're talking about. and that's why wrestling was meant to be on a territory level so everybody felt like this is mine they can't they can be this as theirs in the building but they can't be this as theirs on a worldwide television show and penta came out and did a promo about roman rains which was
Starting point is 00:37:19 so that people don't think that i'm overstating this was it two-thirds Spanish and one-third english be honest yes and he tried to translate eventually you know he would i do a line in spanish and then he would do the english line and yeah i don't understand his english roman reigns it's not over that's the point even though it ain't over it's not over don't worry about powerhouse hobbs worry about penta i don't particularly like his gimmick or his promos or particularly his work but otherwise that he's great but nevertheless then the music played and Dominic and J.D. McDonough came out. And that's when Buddy went to shit over on his pad in the corner.
Starting point is 00:38:07 And I cleaned that up while they were talking to each other, where there was another switch back and forth amongst the mother tongues. And then Penta called Dominic something in Spanish, and they both beat him up until he came back and beat them up. and out they went. So they're pushing Penta. They're pushing Penta. The fans seem so far receptive. Question for you, not that it just involves this segment.
Starting point is 00:38:39 And we've talked a little bit about it in the past. Does Judgment Day need another man in the group? Yes. Look, I, that's the problem. And we see them later on when they came out and did something with somebody. Well, anyway, the point is when they're all standing there next to each other, live as a star as a personality.
Starting point is 00:39:08 I don't care about seeing her wrestle, but I love the way that she's integrated into the various issues and has her own, fucking, she's a good promo, blah, blah, blah. She's five feet tall. Roxanne's 4'11. Fugging JD, even the size of his size of his, his head. The circumference of that doesn't make up for the fact that he's vertically challenged or whatever the case is well. And Dominic is probably six feet tall even, right? But he's dropped
Starting point is 00:39:49 the baby fat, but now he's lean and mean, but he's got no weight behind him. Rochelle, Rochelle is the biggest member of the group. So it's, besides the fact that they're outnumbered, they're the first heel faction in history that the women outnumber the men, but also they have no size to compare with other groups. Put them up against the fucking Samoans, what's going to happen? Jesus Christ. I just feel like for a look for these angles where you need a little more eventually,
Starting point is 00:40:27 they need someone, some big, tall muscle man, you know, in this group, they just need... Well, now that sounds a little erotic. That's not how it's supposed to sound, but they just need, like, like, not a Braun-Strauman,
Starting point is 00:40:40 but they just need someone bigger than everyone else who could be the fucking muscle of the group. Yes, the enforcer. Double A, baby. Arn Anderson is right now, well, right now, I don't have, he might be big as a house, I haven't seen Arn in a while,
Starting point is 00:40:56 but... Arne Anderson would, in his day, was as big as any two of the people in this organization. And so anyway, but the opening, mad, we're going to see fucking, did we see it? Who'd we see? We saw Dom and Penta later on. What did you see, Jim? I don't know. No, they didn't set up a match there.
Starting point is 00:41:23 They, they, because it's the money in the bank qualifier, but Dragon Lee is in it. the main event, but we'll get there. Because the next, but the first match on the show was the Money in the Bank qualifier and out comes E.O. Sky. Followed by Roxanne, followed by La Catalina.
Starting point is 00:41:44 I like her dressing, but what the actual fuck? Seriously, I swear to God, not one of these three girls is five feet tall. And with entrances, this went over 20 minutes. So you might as well have said this is a 20-minute three-way between Mexican minis.
Starting point is 00:42:08 Where's Joe LaDuke when you fucking need him? Paul LaDuke just died a few weeks ago. Did you see that? Yeah, I did see that. And I never got to meet him or actually see the Ladook brothers in person, but also Paul didn't look anything like Joe. He was the little brother that could get beat up and he fired up when the Vashans were in town. but that's what if
Starting point is 00:42:32 if 1975 Joe LaDuke with that fucking face and shaved head that scar from his chest to his goddamn belly button the hairy body looking like a goddamn
Starting point is 00:42:45 marble super villain walked out to the ring and just press slammed leg dropped and fucking pitched everybody on the roster he'd be the most overheel in the wrestling world today
Starting point is 00:42:59 but nobody looks like that anymore. No. Also, you'd have to find somebody that was willing to do three or four years of blade jobs in a corner somewhere just to get his head to look like that.
Starting point is 00:43:15 There just aren't a lot of guys in wrestling who age out and, like, grow old, like, facially. Like, you can't see Joe Oduca thing. That's a young guy. But everyone tries to stay young now. Everyone gets hair extensions or keeps their hair long or... But there aren't anyone
Starting point is 00:43:31 who looks like just like old lumberjacks who kicked the shit out of you. You've seen my pictures of Joe LaDuke in 1978 here in the Memphis Territory. I believe so. You know how old he was? I'm going to guess because it's one of these things, like Moondog Main, 32.
Starting point is 00:43:50 I'm actually going to say it's either 34 or 35. I can't remember the exact math, but yeah, right? Because that picture of Harley Race, when he first won the title from Terry Funk that has gone around and is now in one of my portfolios in high-res, because I took it, he was 32 years old. I brought it up, Moondog, Maine. You would swear that guy was like in his 40s and he's just been nuts and drunk and fighting
Starting point is 00:44:19 on the streets for decades. Yeah. He was like in his 20s. Yeah. It's crazy. Well, you know who looks young, but he's getting older by the day? no, I'm sorry. L.A. Knight.
Starting point is 00:44:34 I liked Eli Drake. He was fun to work with. But L.A. Knight did an in-ring promo, and they love him, and they yeah in all the right places. And he was put in a position here where he had to not only acknowledge that he never wins a big one, try to explain why this one will be different. and then do in his promo what he was told to do that is the reason why that fucking all the goddamn wrestling promos
Starting point is 00:45:09 sound the same and they mostly all suck these days. He tries to do a wrestling promo. That's why he trips over his word sometimes. That's why he fucking, you know, gets flustered because he's not just reciting something. He's doing it in his style off the top of his head. but he's still the material you could tell he had to come out and talk about
Starting point is 00:45:37 how long he's waited for the title shot with Roman the conditions to be right blah blah blah he understands people think you don't believe I've win can anybody beat Roman even me I don't even know whether I could be it I'm like where is he fucking going and he had to put Roman over as one of the greatest of all time and every time that he says something good about Roman,
Starting point is 00:46:03 you hear the people not boo like the mention of his name, like Dominique, boo, boo that guy. They're booing L.A. Knight saying something positive about Roman Raines. Do you hear that? Does that make sense? Have you noticed that? Have you heard about this? Have you read about this? It makes sense. I watched a promo, yes. They don't want to hear that. They don't want to hear that. They don't want to hear L.A. Knight say good shit about his opponent,
Starting point is 00:46:34 even if it's supposed to be the rule of thumb that's been passed down because it's logic that you always put your opponent over, so then when you beat him, you beat somebody or whatever the case. No, sometimes in a good trash-talking, match-hyping, wrestling promo, the fans just want to hear somebody that's got the gift of talking, and shit tear somebody the fuck down. And sometimes even if it's a heel, because that's how the heels with a good light of bullshit
Starting point is 00:47:09 become baby faces. But they don't want to hear, and I wrote, my note, modern wrestlers are too nice. They don't, you know, even if I was a heel, the people had to fucking get tickled a little bit when I said Dusty Rhodes every time you're plumbed,
Starting point is 00:47:33 or daddy went to work during the day. Every out of work fucking drunk and peddler in the city of Austin, Texas knew the color of your mother's bedroom. Shit like that. What the fuck? Instead of, I know you're great, but now there's no bloodline. He wants to do it himself.
Starting point is 00:47:53 That's what L.A. Knight's saying. He hadn't had the bloodline to back him up because he wants to do it on his own, but he's never beat me one-on-one. it was all over the place. His delivery, he sounds like he means it, but this was not the promo that I think he would have would have or should have given
Starting point is 00:48:14 if he was allowed to have his own brothers. The long pause, what did you think of the long pause that he did in the middle of it? Somebody was, had said something and I couldn't hear in the building and it caught him and I think he might have thought something was going to start and it didn't. That's because I, and then I was afraid to try to rewind it because it's on this FACTA streaming thing to investigate further.
Starting point is 00:48:41 This FACA, you mean Netflix? Yeah. Yeah, well, you try to rewind, it'll get away from you, and you're five minutes backwards and fuck. I'm on a schedule. But that, and then, and then he left. This week, people came out and talked and did he really get in a fight? well raw rolls on Javan
Starting point is 00:49:08 Javon Javon are his tell me the gold teeth aren't real he didn't have gold crowns put in please tell me that I don't know I'll consult with our dental expert Dr. Michael Eno
Starting point is 00:49:22 and see what we could find out well if Lano put him in they won't be there long he's the youngest guy ever to win or not to win but to being money in the bank. And he's doing a promo and the vision came in. And Braun said,
Starting point is 00:49:38 the money in the bank is mine. It's no longer your concern. And Javon challenged him and then slapped him. And then ran through Gorilla to go to the ring. So we just, we got a match there, folks. All right. And Bronn comes out and he's all over him and they go to the floor and he gets a little heat.
Starting point is 00:50:00 Javon sells. everything. I like his ethic in, he's not just taking a punch in a face and while he's standing there dumbfounded waiting for the guy to tell him what to do next, he's reacting to getting punched to face, things like that. And this went back and forth where Braun would stop him, but Javon wouldn't stay down and he'd fight back. And actually, actually, when I was going through this, I was thinking, or as the match was going on, I was thinking, Jesus Christ, they're kind of almost making Javon
Starting point is 00:50:43 look too strong here that's nullifying his sympathy factor. They're trying to get Javon elevated, but I think if he'd have sold a little bit more in this than he did, he would have got elevated more because it seemed like he was just too confident and capable that he could go toe to toe with Bronbreaker.
Starting point is 00:51:11 And I know that's because they're trying to build him, but do you see what I'm saying? It's out of, it seemed like it was out of his character, as they say. I don't know, he wasn't afraid of big bill or big casks. Well, who would be? But I'm just, I'm not saying be afraid, but I'm saying not be able to stand up,
Starting point is 00:51:31 just hit him with what? right hand and Bronnd, and it was a hell of a punch, but Brondon just bumps through the ropes to the floor, like, holy shit, part of Javon's appeal is not only the flashy offense, but it's the Riggie Morton-esque selling and the underdoged dogged-diggity-dog-dn-diggity-dog-edness. Anyway, so, and they had to have a break in this thing, so we miss some of it
Starting point is 00:52:01 but boy Braun that Breckensteiner off the top he goes over so quick nobody can find even Javan as quick as he is had to take like the one second delay bump he ought to try to work on
Starting point is 00:52:18 not spinning like a goddamn weed whacker on that thing because nobody can keep up with him and then finally they went into some two counts, boom, boom, boom. And then model girl distracted Javan and theory nailed him. And then Braun hit a spinning slam, we got a two count.
Starting point is 00:52:42 And then Braun set for a spear, but hit the post. And then Javan nailed theory and hit a huge dive on Bronson Reed. And then I hit a dive on Braun. And see, that, when he opens up like that, that's exciting. I want to see more of that goddamn desperateness in the middle. And then he hit to kick on Braun, went to the top, but Theory pushed him off
Starting point is 00:53:09 and disqualification. So I was, again, I was stunned that as strong as Javan was in the match, they didn't at least fuck him and then do the angle, but they don't want to beat him, and that's fine with me too. So then Theory and Braun get some heat on him,
Starting point is 00:53:28 apparently Reed was rattled by the dive previously and then the lights went out and here came Oba and he hit the ring and beat up the heels like a madman and then got to chair from Logan Paul that was trying to sneak in and fucking chair shots cleared the ring pick Javan up and threw him with Javon's blessing over the top rope onto all the heels and he made an impact.
Starting point is 00:54:02 And that's another way, truthfully and honestly, that they can elevate Javan and change this drab shit up a little bit. There's no reason you can't put Oba in a tag team match with Javan against Braun and Bronson or poor theory if somebody needs to get beat. And it's top guys and Javon's getting a rub,
Starting point is 00:54:29 and everybody, you know, love is in the air because we got baby faces and we got heels and there's a personal issue. Imagine that. You think they'll actually do that? Or was this just for, because, oh, we need something for SEG 7? I don't know. I thought this was good.
Starting point is 00:54:45 And I think the idea of aligning Javan with Oba worked just because there is such a difference in size. He needs a friend like Oba. If he's going to deal with this group and Oba has a problem with all them and I liked it. And Joe Hendry can write the song. You've got a friend and OBA. Oh man. No more Joe Hendry. That's another one of my wishes for the New Year. But I'm saying, do you think we'll get the tag match? Do you think they will
Starting point is 00:55:09 tag Oba and Javan up? Yeah, because it's something they could do is kind of a throwaway in between, you know, this and the next big match they do. So yeah. Oh, so now you're just knocking it already. Well, it'll be a throwaway. Yeah, because that's the way they treat tag team wrestling. Yes, it'll be a raw main event. They could be the goddamn ring of honor tag team champions, Oba and Javan, if they were in another company. And then Oba could still be the world heavyweight champion of the big company. So then we had the in-ring promo with the Judgment Day.
Starting point is 00:55:47 And this was long. This is where I noticed that Rochelle, Rochelle is the biggest one in the group. Each one of them spoke, J.D. said his father, is not a fun cop pop and his head is normal sized I take issue with that now I know the fun cop pop thing is hyperbole because those things are not anatomically correct there's no way that he could have fathered but you know now we still have to have some type of is there a cranial and anal specialist in nick bockwinkle's neighborhood that that could measure the circumference of jd's head to determine once and for all.
Starting point is 00:56:32 I believe Dr. Michael Ano was the expert in Nick Bockwood. He only handled the anal part. The cranial was somewhere else. There was more Spanish from Rochelle. Live is the star of the group. Dom is over. And I wrote group needs muscle. It was the same thing.
Starting point is 00:56:54 And then Becky came out, music. And she came out in the stands and said that, she knows J.D.'s mom, and she's been talking to her, and she's ashamed of him. And blistered them, and then brought Stephanie Vacker out and more Spanish. And I swear to God, at this point, I said, there are more women arguing on this show that at Waffle House at 3 a.m. It's, and I can't understand half of it, like Waffle House at 3 a.m. between Becky's accent and Stephanie's Spanish and fucking JD's father Funco
Starting point is 00:57:36 this segment wouldn't end and again whether she's speaking English or Spanish or sign language Stephanie Backer is a worst promo than Tim Horner Oh that's I don't agree with that Tim Horner was not good She's okay She has her own flare
Starting point is 00:57:58 because she's from another country. It kind of runs itself. As her own flare, she's in a fucking trans. She's like, baby, me, baby, baby,
Starting point is 00:58:06 baby, baby, baby, me, that's like I got to Andy Coffin. She ought to be in the kitchen rather than a potts and pans around
Starting point is 00:58:14 and they're making a dinner for the baby. How would you deal with if you had to walk around with your girdle on the outside? Well, I'll tell you, don't tell me where to wear my girdle,
Starting point is 00:58:23 you son of a bitch. I'll strap my, into every kind of contrivance that I feel the need to. Boy, I'll tell you what, this thing's getting tight. Let's get back to the strapping. Let's get back to Stephanie and the Judgment Day. Well, that's what happened. They all spoke ill of each other.
Starting point is 00:58:52 Did I miss anything? There was more ill raw to talk about. Lyrick. Now lyric. has flipped and she's taking on Kevin Sullivan's gimmick and she's got the darkened eyes and the frazzled hair
Starting point is 00:59:07 and she's bat shit insane and she's doing the promos in the back where she's rocking with the moody lighting and some of Bailey has driven her fucking nuts and I wrote I swear to God this is like watching glow are there any men on the fucking roster
Starting point is 00:59:26 and as soon as I wrote that out came Bailey and Lyric are going to have a fucking match. So I gave up at that point because I was watching not live, but on somewhat of a 15 or 20 minute lag where I could skip through the commercial breaks. But that was last night and I had to get up early this morning because I was just disenfranchised and disheartened. So I came back this morning to the point. after Bailey and Lyrick and finished doing whatever they did, and thinking, all right, let me just see,
Starting point is 01:00:07 can we just get back to the male side of the roster? And there was Adam Pierce with Lola Vice, and I swear to God she spoke Spanish and recited a memorized script in a trance-like voice, like a hostage video. And then Roxanne came out and insults, into her and they yelled at each other in more Spanish. And it looked like a Saturday night live sketch.
Starting point is 01:00:40 Am I exaggerating anything that I've just said here? Maybe a slight exaggeration. That little of ice has a hell of an ass. But beyond that, you know what? I think it's supposed to be a topic of conversation based on what I've seen her wearing the ring. So I'm going to say it here on the show. Beyond that, you know, I've always said it.
Starting point is 01:00:59 if WWE really believed in women's wrestling, they would have a dedicated women's wrestling show and a women's wrestling promotion under their umbrella. Instead, they jam it in the middle of the show, and I like a lot more of it than you do, but still a lot of it tends to fill the segments I don't care about, like this one. Well, and the main event of the evening
Starting point is 01:01:22 was a Money in the Bank qualifying three-way between Pinta, Dragon Lee, and Dominic Mysterio. And I gave up. I just gave up. Did you not see any of the Uso's stuff, the main event stuff on the show? Wasn't that the last match? Yeah, it wasn't a match.
Starting point is 01:01:48 The Uso's... Let's see, how do I... What was the order event? Powerhouse Hobbs and his crew sent in a few videos, and then they attacked Solo Sacoa and kidnapped him. When did this happen? It happened, obviously, while you were not... paying any attention to this show whatsoever.
Starting point is 01:02:06 And then there was a big thing in the back where, you know, it was right before the three-way, actually, I think. That must have been what it was. Oh, wait a minute. Because he was supposed to be in the three-way match at the end. Penta replaced them. So I got disgusted with the number of women in a row and skipped over the Samoans and the and the who, the Tongans and the.
Starting point is 01:02:30 And the powerhouse Hobbs gang. And the people from 904. There's a number and they've said it. I don't remember. So I'll say yes, the 904. But it may be 962. I don't know. Yeah, you missed all that.
Starting point is 01:02:48 Maybe we got to call fucking 911. But they're on a good role, I think. You know, they've so far committed arson and now kidnapping. So who took who? They took solo. They beat up solo and they took solo. They took solo. And he's feeling solo.
Starting point is 01:03:09 Now, it's not AEW with, you know, house burning and kidnapping. Or not kidnapping. It was kid taunting. Kid taunting. Baby taunting. That's sore of Strickland. What a great baby face he is. But, yeah, that was raw.
Starting point is 01:03:22 And it just feels uninspired in a lot of ways. I know they're trying to do some stuff. They're trying to push Penta. and I guess if you know, if they're trying, it seems to be okay right now. There's a lot of women's stuff. The Judgment Day needs something to freshen it up because it seems fucking boring right now.
Starting point is 01:03:43 Yeah, I mean, the Javan vision stuff was okay, but the vision are kind of, I don't know, buried in the middle of the show right now because of, I mean, they weren't anywhere near the main event or the last hour of the show, whatever. That was wrong. I think Logan Paul, whenever he is healthy, will, he has name value and he has heat,
Starting point is 01:04:06 so that will up their profile a bit. I don't know why that theory has the girl, if theory is going to be in this group now, to be honest, because it's almost, are they both supposed to be the juvenile flunkies? a hot girl with theory if he was on his own might elevate him somewhat but the hot girl with theory when they're standing next to Bronbreaker, Bronson Reed and Logan Paul
Starting point is 01:04:43 who are more established they're both maybe coming off as flunkies is this girl doing anything to win anybody anything big tripping someone handing off of an object or a fucking hypodermic needle filled with goddamn tranquilizer,
Starting point is 01:05:02 whatever the fuck, to make a critical decision-making part in some big match for a title. How is, are they just making out in public to get heat? She's winning you over. Before she put on the black leather, you said she was painfully thin. Now she's the hot girl, so she's
Starting point is 01:05:23 definitely doing something right. Well, no, I'm talking about, I'm talking about the concept. the concept. They believe this is a hot girl. In another time, in the 90s, right now would be when Austin Theory with his valet could break out
Starting point is 01:05:40 and be intercontinental champion. Yeah. Just doesn't mean anything anymore. Who's the intercontinental champion right now? Trick is the U.S. champion. Who's the intercontinental champion? It was somebody with a mask for a while. is it Gable?
Starting point is 01:06:03 Is Gable the Intercontinental Champion? Well, possibly. The point is what did he? What does it matter? Wait a minute, didn't he lose it to one of the new Stiffs they brought in? Wasn't that, what he was, or was it, no, just Google it right now. Who's the Intercontinental Champion? Just, because I'm bound and determined to know.
Starting point is 01:06:28 And the answer is Chad Gable. Okay. All right. He won it from Penta SummerSlam Night 2. See, I said somebody with a mask. So we were both right. All right, another exciting
Starting point is 01:06:44 WWRWA. The excitement is so much. I'm overwhelmed by it. We'll be right back after this short commercial timeout. All right. Well, we're back. And obviously we're in the spirit. That was profound. Well, Jim,
Starting point is 01:07:06 let's talk about some profound wrestling history. let's return to our look at 1994, specifically, let's begin our attempt to put together a top 20 in their 30s in 1994. And I am looking at this list. Will this be what we're talking about for the next six or eight months? There are a lot of wrestlers in their 30s. And I think we're also going to come across the same kind of issue.
Starting point is 01:07:36 when we did the 1984 list, you took guys that were in every territory wrestling regularly, and many of them were featured and names already would go on to be names. When we did the 20s in their, the people in their 20s in 1994, we discovered that with the death of the territories,
Starting point is 01:08:04 there were a lot more guys, working shows because now it's the big companies with the massive rosters and ECW and a you know a few smaller organizations but there's almost nobody drawing any money even the guys with the big organizations and now in their 30s we have a lot of guys but as I'm looking through this I mean we're going to get 20 great ones, but there's a lot of fucking guys, ain't there? And why don't we start with a controversial one because it was the end of our look at the wrestlers in their 20s in 1994?
Starting point is 01:08:49 Sabu, we ended up doing an addendum because we've heard that he was 29, and we had left that out. We heard from a number of fans who were seemingly upset that we had ignored Sabu. So we talked about it. we discussed it, we added him to the list. Instead of PG-13, I hate to hear what Jamie Dundee thinks of that.
Starting point is 01:09:16 But then come to find out, Jim, apparently he was in his 30s. Oh, God damn it. He was, I believe, 30 because he used different ages at different times and had different birth dates at different times. So we're not going to... So you're saying PG-13 is back on the list. But then do we include Saboo with the 30s or do we just make a special category for the unknown age?
Starting point is 01:09:43 Yes, the... I don't know. I don't know. Put a paper bag over... It'll be Saboo and Gypsy Joe on this list, this year. Well, they got their own list and they made it. Well, I don't know. Saboo in limbo at the moment.
Starting point is 01:10:00 But Jim, let's get to this list. turning 33 in April Steve Lombardi The Brooklyn brawler to those of you not acquainted with Steve I love Steve Lombardi great guy was loyal and dedicated to hardworking
Starting point is 01:10:23 behind the scenes as well as you know in front of the camera in the ring but with the number of people on this list and we're going to try to compile the top 20, I don't think he's going to make it. I agree with you, but question about Steve Lombardi because he had a little bit of size, especially when he was younger.
Starting point is 01:10:47 He was not bad, especially for the Vince McMahon style. He was kind of exactly what they wanted in a lot of ways, when he was a job guy and when he briefly had a push. a lot of people make jokes about the relationship with Paterson but whatever it was it's not like it led to him getting a big push why didn't they ever do anything or trying I mean I know A Knuckleball Schwartz was technically another attempt but that wasn't going to get over in a million years
Starting point is 01:11:15 though that was and again there was no relationship with Pat Patterson of any inappropriate kind I could poor Steve if he's listening to this He says, please clarify that, Jim. Again, that was one of the things that guys would joke about. It was the same thing as in Tennessee. If Jerry Jarrett wanted to push somebody or had an idea for somebody
Starting point is 01:11:41 and somebody else was jealous about it, they would pray, well, you know, Jerry Jarrett's really Roy Welch's son illegitimately, and then we did the math on that, and that didn't work by a few years. But brawler, Steve was a guy who they wanted to find gimmicks for, they wanted to do things with because he was such a nice guy and he was so loyal. And there would always be, even in the territory days, one or two guys around each territory that either the booker or the promoter,
Starting point is 01:12:15 if the bookers changed hands or whatever, that still always do something with so-and-so. If Pat Patterson came up with a gimmick for Steve to paint his, face and be Abe knuckleball Schwartz on the middle of the card just to give him a fucking you know a few weeks around the territory
Starting point is 01:12:37 a payoff or whatever the fuck it wasn't going to affect business or change the main event scene or cost anybody a spot but the very reason why that he couldn't be used more seriously even though he was a good worker
Starting point is 01:12:53 and he could talk it was like an updated Bull Bolinsky gimmick, the Brooklyn brawler. He'd been there. They'd seen him. And how can I miss you if you won't go away also works as even the guys that went on to become legends in wrestling, if they started as teenage dipshits or young job guys or skinny fucks or whatever in their home territory. And they were there for a while, they had to go away. And they had to get over and do a new gimmick somewhere else and then come back as somebody else.
Starting point is 01:13:33 And Steve never really went away. He was always there. They had used him underneath or as a TV jobber for so long from probably the start of his career, right? By the time that they wanted to do something with him, but people would just, no, you know. He had been one of the enhancement guys on TV regularly when they were. were running championship wrestling out of the northeast. You know, guys like him and Paul Roma were really good.
Starting point is 01:14:03 And they stood out and they would lose matches. And it took a while for people to get past that. With Paul Roma, even the young stallions push with Jim Powers, people still kind of remembered he lost a lot of matches. It wasn't until he turned heel with Hercules and Slick. Where it kind of started working. Steve Lombardi, it was him. that was in the middle of the Terry Taylor becoming the Red Rooster
Starting point is 01:14:28 angle. Like that's when they turned him into the Brooklyn Brawler. He had never been. He was just Steve Lombardi. And then all of a sudden he was managed by Heenan briefly. Briefly. It was Andre the giant Rick Rood, the Brainbusters, King Haku, and the Brooklyn Brawler. And the Brooklyn Brawler. But people might not know Steve Lombardi, along with downtown Bruno, Harvey Whippleman worked for the WWF behind, or E behind the scenes
Starting point is 01:15:00 in production, production assistance, that's why you saw Brawler as a talking head on some of the DVDs because he'd be there when they first set up and let's get something because we can't wrangle these other fucking guys.
Starting point is 01:15:16 Steve's always here. Until I don't know how many years ago, but to the modern era, long after he got out of the ring, they tried to cut him one time, and they said, fuck it. And they got together and drove to, like, the town in Texas
Starting point is 01:15:34 so they could come to work, and Vince was, this was during the cost-cutting era or whatever. And Vince was like, well, fuck, if they're that fucking dedicated, put them back on a fucking flight roster. All right, good talk about him, but not on our list for 94. There you go. Jim, we're typically talking men, but we'll include her
Starting point is 01:15:57 because she was one of the only women being pushed in the United States. There was a women's division, and there were two women in it. Turning 31 in February, a Lundra Blaze. Competition was fierce. Alundra Blaze. Alundra Blaze, baby. Medusa is what more people would probably remember her as at this point, because that's what she was for the majority of her career.
Starting point is 01:16:22 but I mean, you know, she deserves a question mark, if nothing else, if we're going to include any women on this list, not only was she one of the two women in the division of the time, but Medusa was one of the women, what, top five women in the 80s that you thought about when you thought about women of wrestling. Or I'm sorry, not 80s, but well late 80s, early 90s. Early 90s. Early 90s.
Starting point is 01:16:51 Early 90s. early 90s, her era before everything exploded when Sable and Sunny got over. And she was the probably best American in the ring for God, how long a period of time, not count Lelani Kai, maybe. So she's got to be a question mark at least, right? She was worked high on the card in the AWA. they featured her in the WWF
Starting point is 01:17:24 which is specific to what we're talking about her push in 94 as a Lundra Blaze which I guess would kind of be the height of her push right she came in in 93 she was gone in 95 yeah I mean they treated her seriously there was nothing
Starting point is 01:17:40 silly about it at all I think question mark is more than fair oh there you go Jim turning 33 in September. Bam, Bam Bigelow. Boy, and... Just thinking, where were you in 92? Where was he in 90?
Starting point is 01:18:01 Was he sore in 94? 95 was Lawrence Taylor. 94 was Doink the Clown. Oh, God. Bam, Bam and Luna versus doink and dink. That's not to say Bam, Bam and Luna were in talent, not to take anything away from Tiger Jackson and Doink either, but... When your opponents at WrestleMania go from Doink the Clown to NFL football star Lawrence Taylor,
Starting point is 01:18:29 you've got a significantly different spot on the card. Bam Bam was one of the greatest big men of all time. That's overused. And what a fucking worker. And what an athlete from really his first match until... Well, they just did the dark side episode. He had not, I don't know where he was at his substance issues here, but he could still work and still go, and he had not, his body hadn't broken down yet.
Starting point is 01:19:01 So I think Bam Bam Bigelow is a checkmark at any point until he just, you know, couldn't do the things that Bam Bam could do anymore. He's on the national stage with a memorandum. He was a well-pushed heel, despite the feud with doink and dink. But they gave him Luna, who was used pretty seriously. She was with Sean Michaels when she first came in. Again, he didn't have classic matches per se, but one of the best moving big men, and he was about to get a big push starting at Royal Rumble in early 95, and then by the end
Starting point is 01:19:43 to 95, depends on who you want to listen to. either the click screwed him over or he lost his motivation, but whatever it was, it was a brief window there. All right, so I'll add him to the list. Jim turning 35 in March, Barry Horowitz. And that's, I love Barry Horowitz,
Starting point is 01:20:06 just as a person, just he was entertaining to just sit and talk to because he was a very good work. and, you know, always showed up as far as my experience was on time and was a very courteous and polite person. Just because of the plethora of names, he's one of these guys that's not going to make the top 20 list, but, you know, he was entertaining. Sometimes he was entertaining when guys would sit around
Starting point is 01:20:38 and just listen to him talk but not try to be entertaining. That's what was entertaining about him sometimes. he sat down one time we was talking to a group of us candido was there whatever and as somebody brought up he's from florida barry horowitz right or he lived in florida at least and he he said yes he said and my aunt if you went to her house and if you went out in the backyard and you climbed up on the roof of her shed you could see Ted Bundy's cousin's house. All right.
Starting point is 01:21:17 That's the way we've so we were waiting for the rest of it. What happened there? Did they haul some bodies out? No, you could see it. You know, kind of like Steve Lombardi, someone who did so much enhancement work that it was hard to ever see past that.
Starting point is 01:21:36 But even with that, he was one of the more well-known enhancement guys, but also kind of had his own a lot of guys didn't have our own gimmick. He started patting himself on the back and then eventually like he had a vest with the handprint for where his hand would be and and he even did, was it Dutch Mantel? Was he booking in Florida then when they actually did the
Starting point is 01:21:57 losing streak gimmick with him which I think was maybe the, was that the first time in the modern era at least anybody promoted a losing streak? It may have been. May have been. may have been. Of course, he was Jack Hart. He was built with Brett Hart briefly, also, while Brett Hart was wrestling somewhere else. Not on our list. Much like Doug Gibson. Jim turning 34 in May, Bastion Bougar.
Starting point is 01:22:35 Yeah, no, he's not on the list, but I hate to be, dismissive of the gimmick was one of those Vince McMahon things and it didn't last long and it wasn't good when it was done and I felt bad for poor old Mike Shaw because he was just a repulsive looking guy and they made it worse by accentuating
Starting point is 01:23:04 it with the outfits and the noises and all the things and let me just say I was wrong he's 37 it was 37 well boy talk about being old looking for your age but as muck and sing they hit on something in calgary he could talk
Starting point is 01:23:25 and he got over because of the unique nature of the and it's calgary and they have a history of the Indian I don't know what that again what the muck and sing thing was was supposed to be, but it worked there.
Starting point is 01:23:45 And poor Mike Shaw, when he couldn't take that gimmick with him, because it wouldn't work anywhere else, but it might have certainly worked better to everything else he did. But whether Norman, the lunatic, trucker, Norman, Bastion Booger, the fucking, what was the monk?
Starting point is 01:24:05 Friar Ferguson. Friar Ferguson. That was the drunk monk. That was the best gift of all. It lasted two weeks. And that was Vince, too. No, I felt bad for him, but he could work for a guy that size and in the territories he would have been just swell for years.
Starting point is 01:24:24 But no, it's no, no, no. I like that that was Vince's idea, first thing long. Signed Mike Shaw. All right, you know, we need a friar. That's what they haven't had in wrestling. 1994 Jim turning 31 in November from the smoking guns
Starting point is 01:24:44 Billy Gunn who you know no he never well think about this he never really main evented on his own as part of the DX group you could make that claim
Starting point is 01:25:01 but he was never a featured guy and pay-per-view main events or what whatever. But if you've, you've got to admire the fact that he looks in better shape now when he's fucking 63 or whatever that he did then when he was 33. When he was tall and skinny. Yeah, he looked nothing like it.
Starting point is 01:25:20 But we can't take that into consideration. Him and Bart riding the prairies, taking care of business with their fake guns. Taking care of business. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The guns were a fine baby face tag team.
Starting point is 01:25:38 I don't, again, I think it's a numbers game here as to whether he's going to make the top 20. But again, you have to admire the dedication to physical condition. All right, not on our list. Jim turning 31 in January. He had two different names, I believe, in 1994, Thurman's Sparky Plug to become Bob Spark Plug, Holly.
Starting point is 01:26:04 without any explanation. Just one day on TV, he had a different day. And you know, there's a story behind how that they got Vince to change it, and I can't remember what it is. I think it might have been just some begging and pleading on Bob's part, but he also was actually racing cars. That was kind of the gimmick,
Starting point is 01:26:29 and they already knew, the racing people knew him as Bob Holley. because that's that's who he was. But yes, he had, I've told a story, I'll try to recap it here quickly. He had done a couple of jobs on Atlanta TV when I was still there in WCW. And Bob was from, you know, the Alabama-Petscola area
Starting point is 01:26:57 where, you know, Robert Gibson and Paul Bear, Ricky Gibson and Michael Hayes, that whole, he was the whole, he was the next generation of that. And he knew Paul Bear, Percy Pringle. And I had seen him, that's what I was thinking about Smoky Mountain Wrestling. And I wrote his name and number down. I said, this guy, he reminded me of a young Bobby Eaton.
Starting point is 01:27:21 Because at that point, he wasn't into, he was very fit physically. He had a nice physique, but he wasn't into bodybuilding. He was like 225 pounds. He did the kind of the closest. thing I'd seen to Bobby's knee off the top to Bobby and did some other shit too and et cetera so I brought him Smoky Matt wrestling is Hollywood Bob Holly because why the fuck not but he was riding up with that accent that's the only reason why yes that accent being Hollywood well that's part of the heat that's the as Larry Latham spot to
Starting point is 01:27:57 moon dog would say that's where's the heat that's the heat but anyway point being I haven't got him the robe made, the pink boa around the fucking neck and everything. And his work was just, I loved the way he fucking worked. He did a lot more bumping and taking arm drags and flying as a heel that he did later on when he became a tough guy. But he was riding up with Robert Gibson. We were doing the TVs and the initial weekends of shows. But his real job in Mobile was welding. and the welding people said,
Starting point is 01:28:34 hey, do you want to weld or be a wrestler? And with the money he was making being a wrestler, he decided to weld. I said, God damn it. We've lost not just me, but he's a good talent. He'd do something. And then that's when Percy was able to put a word in for him. And when Vince heard, there's a race car driver.
Starting point is 01:28:56 Well, he sees a tie-in. remember the early videos, but he came up with Thurman Sparky plug, and that just doomed, he was going to be doomed, like the rest of the, you know,
Starting point is 01:29:11 T.L. Hoppers and whatever, it would come later. But there was, a pleas from a variety of people, it just changed name to Bob Holly, because it, and they threw the spark plug in there so that they'd know he was supposed to be
Starting point is 01:29:27 a race car driver. And then he just, he worked hard, stayed in shape, and always was there to the point where they allowed him to evolve into a goddamn somewhat normal human. All right, very talented guy, not on our list.
Starting point is 01:29:46 No. Jim turning 37 in July Brett the Hitman Heart. Well, at least we got another check here, I think. just based on anything, 1994 and everything before and after, that's pretty much a gimmie.
Starting point is 01:30:07 Yeah. I don't know if we have to do too many career details on Brett Hart that would be revelatory at this point. But just 1994 alone, it's him and Owen. It's him winning the belt back from Yokazuna. It was a big year for Brett Hart. Yeah. So, yeah, I think he's a gimmie for the year.
Starting point is 01:30:27 Brett Hart on the list. Turning 32 in November, Davy Boy Smith, the British Bulldog. And now the only thing I can think of that might keep him from being a check mark is...
Starting point is 01:30:43 When did he return? That's the... Because I was managing him in 19... him and Owen in 95. Was he injured? Was he out of action for much of 1994? He returned. He returned.
Starting point is 01:30:57 I mean, this is whenever, I want to say it was the end of the year, he returned because he had been gone for a while. But was that when he was hurt that he was gone? Or was that when he was in purgatory, aka Atlanta? And I think these questions perfectly exhibit why he should be on the question mark list, because I'm not sure. Well, we got to just look back and see if that was not a period of inactivity. But, I mean, it's the British bulldog. So chances are he's not going to get. sifted out with Bastion Booger.
Starting point is 01:31:31 Well, here's an interesting one for you, Jim, 35 in July. Diesel. Well, it's interesting also because do we, are we awarding a checkmark to diesel, or are we awarding a checkmark to Kevin Nash for his body of work over the period of time? Because diesel was not exactly the most rousing success in the world, but Kevin Nash would have to have to get some kind of checkmark on the list.
Starting point is 01:32:03 Again, I think we have to look purely at 94. He's Sean Michael's bodyguard, gets over big in the Royal Rumble, eliminating people, turns baby face, wins the world title from Bob Backland, who wins it from Brett Hart, at Madison Square Garden in seconds, which is Vince's way of trying to make him. you know, I mean, again, his influence would grow, his importance to WCW would happen in a few years. I think he's got an argument for 1994, just because of the push alone.
Starting point is 01:32:41 Well, if we give Davey a question mark, let's give Diesel question mark two and come back to it. All right, Diesel, and how old was he? He was 35. It sounds like you're reading his obituary. Jim also 35 in 1994 turning it in July. Dwayne Gill. Gilberg. Gilberg.
Starting point is 01:33:04 Dwayne Gill is another guy who, just a great guy, loved the wrestling business, and didn't take himself so too seriously that he couldn't take advantage of that gimmick. And it lasted to the point where it was somewhat silly, but it was always silly
Starting point is 01:33:24 but it got over with people because of the quality of the silliness but you know during the wrestling war and looking exactly like a desiccated version of Goldberg and having the little
Starting point is 01:33:40 fucking sparklers instead of the pyro you know he turned that into he was doing appearances at Gilbert at Gilbert as Gilbert back a few years ago, at least that I know what. But he and Barry Hardy had been a tag team in Maryland in the,
Starting point is 01:34:02 again, late 80s, early 90s. They were regular enhancement guys also on WWFTV for years as a team. And then somebody noticed, well, you know, he looks just like, and there you go, and he ran with it for 20 years. All right, not on our list for 94, turning 31. in June, earthquake. Earthquake.
Starting point is 01:34:28 I would think he's got to be a question mark at least not only based on his WWF run, but John Tenta, you know, they did a dark side on him also, but he was a
Starting point is 01:34:43 mean motor scooter in his day. But we're looking at 1994. But in 94, or he was still earthquake in the WWF, was he not? He was. He would, I believe, have his matches with Yokazuna that year in 1904. Oh, God, almighty. Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 01:35:06 I mean, I'll put him on the question mark list and we'll reevaluated in the future. Let me just say, for match quality, if you want to check out his career, don't look at any of the Yokazuna matches. Jim turning 30 in March he would begin the year in WCW as Shanghai Pierce but he would become Henry Godwin Henry O Godwin you know because that spells Hogg and Phineas I Godwin
Starting point is 01:35:34 because that spells Pigg and he was clearly trying with Thurman's Sparky plug the idea was clearly STP but they got the order wrong that may have been a trademark fucking settlement. I don't know. But that's the thing is that Vince went mad in his own way in this period of time and everybody had to have a goddamn occupation or, you know, when he would hear
Starting point is 01:36:03 something about somebody or just he would hear it in his head sometimes. He would make it that way. And he still remembered the scuffling hillbillies. they were big for his dad in the garden in 1959 and he had done the fucking hillbillies in the 80s with hillbilly Jim and Uncle Elmer cousin Luke, cousin junior and when
Starting point is 01:36:29 Henry Godwin, Shanghai Pierce, Mark Canterbury and Phineas who had been Shanghai Pierce in WCW right when they were a tag team there and he just all he knew oh they've got southern accents and we'll make them hillbillies pig farmers
Starting point is 01:36:53 hog and pig and they did better probably than any any other individual or team that was cursed with one of Vince's fucking crazy goofy lunatic gimmicks because they actually got over and got used for a while
Starting point is 01:37:10 and they were fun guys Fun, not on the list, but fun guys. Fun guy. On the fun guys. Never got a dinner. Never got a dinner, but they're fun guys. Also turning 30 in April of 1994, Jim, Crush. Brian Adams and not the singer.
Starting point is 01:37:34 Um, gosh, you know, same thing. We're getting it. There's a lot of names, but there's only a few bread hearts or, you know, whoever we haven't got to yet. He had a fairly lengthy career sabotaged himself
Starting point is 01:37:56 during this run, I believe, didn't he? He had one of the bigger arrests of the 90s. I mean, yeah, because again, he had been a baby face, he turned heel, and then he has the big Randy Savage feud, culminating, of course, with the match at WrestleMania. and then
Starting point is 01:38:18 Yeah. And then he came back later on after some type of mea copa and rehabilitation to the DOA thing. That's right. Probably not on the list. Jim also turning 30
Starting point is 01:38:34 in March of 1994. Someone who worked for you in 1992, Adam Baum. Brian Clark, the Nightstalker. And he had been recommended to me by Paul Ornorth because Paul lived in Atlanta when Paul started coming up to Smoky Mountain Wrestling he said hey I got this big kid he can drive me I got a lot of guys that way uh and I saw the picture I said by God he's perfect for Kevin Sullivan who we were
Starting point is 01:39:08 going to start doing a thing with and and so there you go so then when when Paul when Watts called me about Paul and I put the word in for Paul. Yeah, he looks great. He's working great. Well, then Paul put the word in with Bill for Brian Clark. And he ended up down there as Nightstalker and had that, no, that was, he had had the goddamn match with Sid Vicious. No, he'd had the match with Sid before I got him.
Starting point is 01:39:40 That was the clash of champions in 1990. Yes, that's why I was the only one that would take him. He had been like Ox Baker's protégion. and Ox Baker was the one kind of managing his career. Yeah. That match with Sid, which was considered like the worst thing ever. If you go back and watch it now, it's bad, but it's not the worst thing ever.
Starting point is 01:39:59 I mean, we've seen worse. Well, now we have. But anyway, and then he became Adam Baum. All right, Jim, well, not on your list, Adam Bomb, but moving along here, turning 36 in March, IRS, a.k.a. Mike Rotundo. or retunda, just depending on where and when. You know, well, depending on what 1994 was like for Mike, Mike was a heck of a talent and had longevity there for a while.
Starting point is 01:40:38 That sounds like a double fucking negative. Had longevity for a little while. I'm trying to think was 1994 a good year for IRS because that's where he was then in the WWF but I mean you know we're you and I are both fans of the varsity club from the NWA with Kevin Selvin Mike and Rick Steiner it was just it was a magic combination that's right but Mike was very underrated not only a legitimate wrestler and tough guy but also
Starting point is 01:41:11 a great worker. He just, he didn't have the over the top personality. And that's why that the gimmicks that fit him best were the ones where he kind of needed to be the straight guy, whether it was the,
Starting point is 01:41:25 the normal jock in the varsity club or the stick in the mud, stick up his ass IRS agent. Does that man? And then it was, it was better because he didn't, he wasn't just a fucking lunatic on camera.
Starting point is 01:41:41 Does that make sense? Yeah, I mean, I think his career would have been better, to me as a fan, if he had just never lost the varsity club gimmick, because he quickly went to Captain Mike, the yacht captain, and then it became Michael Wall Street. Wait a minute, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, because he went from captain of the wrestling team to like a fucking captain. He was the original yacht rock wrestler. And do you remember, do you remember his, is.
Starting point is 01:42:11 entrance music. As Captain Mike, no. As Captain Mike, that's what I like about you. Oh my God. No, I do not remember that. Oh, my God. Yes, they used that for some period of time very shortly. And the Romantics, as I've told a story years ago, but a number of times were big
Starting point is 01:42:32 fans of wrestling and the Midnight Express ours in general. They ambushed us in that parking lot that night. And good old Arnie Tensor, their manager up in Detroit. took us to a strip club up there, but nevertheless, where were we? I was thinking about Detroit in the landing strip. Again, he went from wearing a varsity jacket to wearing a windbreaker with a captain's hat. With Norman, I mean, just for no reason. He just became, you know, ocean-oriented, yachting related.
Starting point is 01:43:05 But then think about it, he was still out of that group, the straight man, because even the wacky, thirst and howl-looking yacht guy was straighter than Norman the lunatic. And baby-face Abdullah the Butcher. Yeah, then there you go. That was another weird run.
Starting point is 01:43:24 All of a sudden he was a baby-tham. My first exposure to Abdulah the butcher was as this fun, jolly fat guy who were just like running around like a maniac. He was kind of fun. I had no idea. He stabbed people with forks. During the years,
Starting point is 01:43:41 of the booking committee years, I should say during the weeks, one of the lanes It felt like years, but I think that was my God, it may have been right before Flair demanded give me this fucking thing. But, and I know, and I love Jim Ross, it was his idea
Starting point is 01:43:59 bless his little pepicking heart. But this was the most, I felt like has this somehow LSD has entered my bloodstream. Wait, what was Jim Ross's idea? I'm about to tell you I'm doing the interviews as the heel
Starting point is 01:44:15 manager slash announcer on a TBS program and I am tasked with interviewing Abdullah the butcher and I think it was part of this fucking time period where maybe Captain Mike was out there but I just remember Abdullah was there
Starting point is 01:44:32 and while I'm talking to the other members of the group Abdullah is supposed to be sniffing around. This is the way it was laid out. And we did it this way, because I was like, God damn. Abdullah is supposed to start sniffing me and
Starting point is 01:44:49 sniffing around me. And I'm for what the hell that I'm kind of leery of this fucking guy and I'm looking this way and that way while he's sniffing. The other people are talking whatever. And finally, he goes digging in my jacket pockets and he comes out with my twinkies, my individually wrapped
Starting point is 01:45:05 emergency twinkies, that it was thought that Jim Cornett would carry in his jacket pocket on the broadcast and he starts eating them without taking a wrappers off of him and shit. That was part of the baby face Abdullah period. And this was an idea Jim Ross was really happy about? This, I, well, because he was, he was my co-host. I think he was out there with us.
Starting point is 01:45:32 So, but, I mean, it was the period of time where that's what they want. wanted out of their wrestling. You know, it wasn't before Flair demanded the book. It was the fucking time period after. Goddamn Flair had given them the book back. Here or heard, fuck you. I quit. What were we talking about?
Starting point is 01:45:57 Micro to IRS. Yes, let's put him down as a question mark just so we can just move along. All right. I know. Just a check mark, a question mark. We'll see we got a lot of names to go. It's going to take months. Question mark. Like a fucking interstate project. Jim turning
Starting point is 01:46:14 Where are we? Here we are. Turning 34 in June From the Quebecers Jacques Rugeot. Oh my God. I'm going to get over you, Biggaboy? Jacques Rugeot, obviously we've talked about him here on the program lately. At recent years he's been involved in a number of not controversial, maybe always, but just high-profile.
Starting point is 01:46:41 exchanges with people or situations. But Jacques has always had a talent for either saying something memorable or doing something memorable. One of the other, and in 1994, Big a boy. An interesting year. Actually, a very interesting year.
Starting point is 01:47:06 Well, I was about to say because I, where was he on the uscent or the descent? because I was there with him. And I can't remember what the fuck was going on at that point in time. It wasn't the final cent. I guess that's the point. He would be WWF tag team champions with Pierre and the Quebecers, a unmemorable match with met on a mission at WrestleMania.
Starting point is 01:47:27 Oh, that's right. And then they broke up at a house show in Montreal, which led to, in October, Jacques Rugeot's first retirement match, which drew like 16,000 people. against Pierre. So he actually has and you know,
Starting point is 01:47:45 you don't notice it because it was just Montreal but a pretty interesting year. Well, then I think we always ought to put a question mark down after Jacques Rougeau's name. Just no matter what context it's being written in. Just put a question about Jacques
Starting point is 01:47:59 Jean-Rou No, second generation or third generation, however many generations, there is all kinds of members of the family, Canadian legends he was an excellent worker
Starting point is 01:48:14 and had the gift for Gab as a heel on and off camera and so I think you know we've got to make it at least a question mark if not a as we go back a check mark but
Starting point is 01:48:30 a very fun fellow to be around Jacques Rouge. But in general whether it's Jacques Rougeau or somebody else and typically you wouldn't see something like this. Outside of Lucha Libre, you didn't really see this kind of thing in the States. The idea of a big retirement show
Starting point is 01:48:47 drawing a big house, does that give someone a little bit of a boost in your eyes in terms of looking at the year of 16,000 people paid specifically just for Jacques Rojo? Well, yes. I mean, that, but it's overall part of the family legacy and the,
Starting point is 01:49:07 he's had a whole, on that market and it's passed down from generation to generation the few people the Yvonne Robbers and the other French Canadian heroes that they've had in wrestling in Montreal have all
Starting point is 01:49:22 it's always done well and they stay over it's like Lawler in Memphis without the accent so as a promoter he's drawn crowds that big he's drawn crowds that big after he came out of this retirement I think but it's part of the overall legacy, the Rougeau name and, you know, history and Montreal
Starting point is 01:49:46 for those fans, they need a French-Canadian on top. They need a French-Canadian hero and sometimes a French-Canadian villain. That's why in the wrestling wars in 72 and 73 up there, the Vashans and the Ladooks and Carpontia, they were all so important when one would bounce. from side to another. All right. Well, a question mark on this list. Jim, a few more names, and then we wrap up for today.
Starting point is 01:50:17 Turning 39 in February. Jim the Anvil Knighthart. Hey, you know what? We obviously worked with him when we went to Mid-South in late 83, early 84, before he went to Memphis as part of the trade. but I wouldn't have thought he was that old, but then I think he had, he got into the wrestling business late and spent some time in Calgary, but he was still fairly new in 84 and he would have been almost 30.
Starting point is 01:50:50 So unfortunately, Jim's probably peak years, both in terms of in-ring performance, push, and prominence had already expired by this point, had they not? Yeah, I don't think he gets on the list, but he had an interesting year, comes back as a heel to align himself with Owen against Brett, said that was an interesting new wrinkle on Jim Niedhart,
Starting point is 01:51:17 who I think before that was last seen in WCW briefly in 1993, not on the list in my eyes for 94. Well, and then from 1994 to what was it, 96, he'd gone from Jim Nidehart to who? Remember that? Yeah, that's right. It was just who.
Starting point is 01:51:38 It wasn't even the masked who. I said, well, we ought to play, who are you? What do you go? But by that point, he was going through the issues he was going through, and Vince was trying to give him a favor job, but he couldn't trust him to push him in a prominent place because he might not still love me tomorrow. Well, not on the list for 94.
Starting point is 01:52:04 I think we could agree. Another one that I'm pretty sure, you're going to say the same thing. Surprising age here. 36 in January, Jim Powers. But he aged well because he was one of those male model types. And he had to start late also, didn't he?
Starting point is 01:52:19 When would Jim Powers have started in the wrestling business? I remember him around 84, 85 for the first time. So he would have been 26 or 27 there, and that's late for those days. Wonderful. cosmetically appealing fellow and you know it's not like he'd fall out of the ring by accident but I don't see him on a list of people alongside who we've already got bam bam bigelow brett heart a couple question marks like retunda and Kevin Nash as diesel playing the part of diesel a lunder blaze I don't see powers at that left want to talk about a weird what if
Starting point is 01:53:03 I think it was 85. They started airing vignette videos of him in world class, like him in a pizzeria, eating a pizza, like in Brooklyn. And I'm like, okay, that makes sense. He seems like the kind of guy that they would want to push as a baby face. And then I don't even remember if he came in. It, like, ended and he just stayed with the WWF. Someone talked him out of going.
Starting point is 01:53:27 Well, yeah, because it probably, he figured out that he wouldn't be able to afford to pizza if he went to world class at that point. Well, maybe, but who knows what his career would have been if he had gone that way. Jim, a couple more names here. And I guess for this one, we should incorporate another one, so we'll combine them both. Turning 32 in November,
Starting point is 01:53:48 Jimmy Del Rey, and let me just say, also turning 35 in August, Tom Pritchard, throughout 1994, they were the heavenly bodies. And bless, Jimmy Del Rey, I've said this before, he was literally working independence in Florida in April of 1993. And by July, he was on WWF television and he was wrestling for the WWF tag team title in August at Somersland.
Starting point is 01:54:24 So unfortunately, as some people have known, he got the reputation afterwards for being the, high school kid that was too happy to be invited to the college party, but part of that is why. Because his mind, as I look back on it, I'm just trying to put every, I've got Smoggy Mountain going. I've just replaced him or replaced Stan Lane with Jimmy on Kevin Sullivan's say so. I'm hoping it works out. It worked out beautifully. He can fucking go, but I'm trying to do my deal in Smoggy Mountain. I'm working with Yoko and the other people I'm working with up there.
Starting point is 01:55:04 I'm giving them the bodies later on for a fucking run. So I didn't have time to reflect on that Jimmy was probably mentally overwhelmed by the situation. It's probably a good topic for a later show. We do get questions asking what exactly happened with him in WWF and whatever the incident was. And I don't even know the answer to that. So now's not the time. but I definitely want to revisit that at some point. Yeah, well, and also it's just because in poor doc, Tom, Dr. Tom Pritchard,
Starting point is 01:55:37 and Dr. Tom at that point in his career had realized, hey, this is my, you know, opportunity. I've been in all these various territories for 10 years and had success in them, but this is the big time. And I want to, you know, buckle down and really apply myself and stay out of trouble and keep a low, profile and go back to the room and Jimmy's like, hey, I'm here!
Starting point is 01:56:04 And so it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, with a lot of the other guys because suddenly it was like, the understudy is in the play and he's, you know, hobnobin with, you know, you know, fucking baritikov or whatever, I've mixed my metaphors there. And also he's just wearing tom out and, you know, So they didn't get released. They just, they got their year run and the contract they had signed. And then they were like, okay, you can have them back.
Starting point is 01:56:41 No, but I don't want to get back to specifically 94 here. But I was under the impression Jimmy Del Rey got fired. The whole thing with him and Tataka. And then I guess later on, Tataka was cleared. It was all Jimmy Del Rey and abusing some girl in a hotel. Well, there was, there was, I don't know that there was any clear. because I don't know that it was, did it become a legal issue? Or just everybody was fucking fucked up in the hotel and some girl got not only maybe
Starting point is 01:57:10 her eyebrows, but various parts of her anatomy shaved as they used to do like when they did it to fucking X-pack on the plane. I don't know what the fuck was going on. I wasn't even there. I was not on the road. For another reason I wasn't on the road with these fucking juvenile aisles at this point in time. Do you think if you were on the road, it would have changed his behavior at all, or would it
Starting point is 01:57:33 have not mattered? Well, if he was on the road with me back in the day, we would have been down the road at the fucking Super 8 or the Red Roof Inn and not in the middle of the goddamn issues. But again, circling back now to 94. Yes. Before any of these issues really played out publicly. They have the match with the Rock and Roll Express, the loser leaves town. They come back in the summer.
Starting point is 01:57:58 for the match with the thrill seekers, which is one of the more memorable matches of Smoky 's history for all the blood loss from Jericho. And it's the last time we saw Jericho there because he broke his arm earlier that night. They were fantastic live. I saw them live for WWF and for Smoky Mountain. Tom Pritchard's one of the best live wrestlers I've ever seen. Just every match, this something. So I think the heavenly bodies do deserve consideration for the list.
Starting point is 01:58:25 well and see if I'd have said that then people are like oh bullshit but when you look at the year 1994 and look at the in ring tag teams in ring heel tag teams you know they're pretty close to top of the list maybe not in the push
Starting point is 01:58:45 that they got but in terms of the performance and this was as you mentioned probably their their best year because 1995 was when they were on the way out of the WWF. They were given wings. They were given wings. And we're on the way out and came back and we're splitting their time between Knoxville
Starting point is 01:59:10 and Memphis, but they didn't have the oomph that 94 did. So let's give them a question mark. Oh, wow. Okay. Question mark. Let's give them a question mark and come back because we've got another page and a half of fucking names, including a lot of, no, another goddamn two pages of fucking names. Well, we will get there and we have a lot to go, and this will be the last one we do today.
Starting point is 01:59:35 So on the list is Bam Bam Bigelow and Brett Hart. We have a lot of question marks we will return to. One last question about the bodies. I don't know if we've ever talked about the loser leaves town match on the show. Were you happy with the way everything went and the famous promo with the bodies walking away, turning midway down the hall to give one last look back. Were you happy with the way everything went with that? And what, and we played Bob Seeger, the famous final scene.
Starting point is 02:00:05 Think in terms of bridges burn. Think of seasons at miss end. As the rivers rise and fall, we will rise and fall again. I loved it. I loved it because the fucking crowd was insane. the pop on the finish was nuclear and it wasn't it wasn't a major arena it was it was Pikeville but it was so you couldn't have gotten a major arena
Starting point is 02:00:40 because of actual fire codes in legitimate buildings you couldn't have got that many people in so it just looks like a sea of people in this fucking old wrestling building watching this shit happen and it was, yeah, and it was one of our better finishes, I thought. So, yeah, I was happy with it overall, and I wasn't happy that they were leaving,
Starting point is 02:01:04 although I was happy they were getting an opportunity to go to make some money. Well, that was 1994. We will return to this, of course, at a later time, but we have just stomped through a bunch of these names, and as a whole lot more, we got to stomp through in the future. You need the right boots. You need the right footwear. something that looks good, feels good, and does the job right.
Starting point is 02:01:26 Jim, talking about our good friends at Brunt. Because everybody take it to the top. We're going to stomp. You can stomp bugs in Brunt work boots, and you don't even feel the disgusting squish or the crack of the hard shell that makes you sick to your stomach when you're out in the yard or you're in the garage and something's crawling by.
Starting point is 02:01:49 And you want, every once in a while, I see a bug big enough, I want to take a fucking, maybe the flat side of an axe or some kind of fucking blunt instrument. But the brunt boots, especially if you're throwing a sidekick at something on a tree, Brian, let's say you want to kick some goddamn disgusting fucking insect off a tree. The brunt work boot is the finest footwear that you can have to accomplish your mission and not get any on you. Kick an insect off the tree.
Starting point is 02:02:19 Are you kicking the tree or you're trying to kick the, insect itself. I'm squashing that son of a bitch sideways for he can get on me. See, if you need to just go out and do all kinds of martial arts moves to the things around you, ladies gentlemen, when you're out in your yard or you're working on the railroad or you're, you know,
Starting point is 02:02:41 that's the sound of the men working on a chain gang. That's their brunt work boots clacking together. Because no matter what kind of work you're doing on land or, in the water because these things are waterproof and they got the the non-slick uh souls there so you're not going to fall down if you're on land and if if you're in the air well then let me take you higher these brunt boots you can jump in them i'll tell you what now you you know old white people your mileage may vary but the brunt work boots will give you enough spraying if you're a goddamn ambulatory regular human being,
Starting point is 02:03:21 you can jump pretty high in these things too. That's just my assumption, but once again, it depends on how much you take care of yourself, Brian. Once again, but nevertheless, you don't have to leave the ground in your brunt boots. You could just walk through mud and,
Starting point is 02:03:36 you could just wade right through this bullshit and just get to the point. Yeah. In these brunt boots. No, our friends at Brunt, everybody knows every time I go out in the yard and I stick my pant legs in my socks and pull them up and then tie the brunt work boots tight.
Starting point is 02:03:54 And that way you're not going to get Rocky Mountain spotted fever from the ticks because ain't no tick. A power drill couldn't hardly break through these brunt work boots. No matter what kind of work you do, they're the best boots that you can work in. And even like electricians and shit, why you need to climb poles and be grounded and stuff, you know, nobody ever frowning.
Starting point is 02:04:18 in a brunt boot, I'll tell you that, maybe some shit from Walmart. Watch out for the metal fucking things on the end of your laces. Nevertheless, no matter what kind of work you want to do, they also make heavy-duty work pants, weather-resistant jackets,
Starting point is 02:04:35 durable, reliable, workwear to keep you protected and productive. And, boy, I'll tell you what, Brian, I'm looking at the prototypes for this brunt bulletproof vest. If they're as tough as the boots, well, you'll be able to, armor piercing missile would bounce off this thing.
Starting point is 02:04:53 But before they get that developed, folks, just take care of your feet. You're going to go to bruntworkware.com right now and use the promo code JCE. And what you're going to get is 10 bucks off. It's just like I'm handing you a $10 bill figuratively out there in podcast land. I can't stick my hand through this. It's got a windscreen on it. But I'm giving you $10. All you got to do is go to bruntworkware.com, use the promo code JCE,
Starting point is 02:05:24 get a pair of these wonderful, comfortable, waterproof, dangerproof boots, and there, and there I've given you $10. What more can I do, Brian? Not much. I think you've done enough. You've done enough. Okay, well, they're good then. And you're free to go.
Starting point is 02:05:43 Ladies and gentlemen, we love them. Jim loves them. and we love them over here. Brunt Workboots. Get yours today. One more time, that promo code. We love them. You'll love them.
Starting point is 02:05:55 Over here or over there, bruntworkware.com promo code J-C-E. 10 bucks off. How can you beat that? You can't. Brunt! Oh! Oh, geez.
Starting point is 02:06:22 It's the whiplash. It stopped itself. We are in the future. I'm near the mic. We are in the future, ladies and gentlemen. gentleman? Yes, and I do apologize because due to a unexpected commitment,
Starting point is 02:06:34 not of the psychiatric evaluating kind, but just a commitment that was unexpected, I had to delay the rest of the recording of this program until now, but we've not only got news updates, but you apparently have said something
Starting point is 02:06:50 else has happened that we need to discuss that I don't know about since we have started this program. but Brian, I got an update on Bruce Swayze. Oh, beautiful, Bruce. If you listen to this whole podcast in order, it will make fucking sense.
Starting point is 02:07:07 If you've just joined us, the update is he's still dead. But from our friend Dave Brzynski, aka Supermouth Dave Brayson, manager extraordinaire and a shepherd of history of the Michigan and Ontario wrestling Territories.
Starting point is 02:07:29 Sent me an email and said he managed Bruce Swayze. Dave did, along with Hartford Love and Eric the Red for George Cannon's Superstars of Wrestling back in the Ontario days. He said he was always fun to work with, very animated. He'd see him at cauliflower alley in Las Vegas and in Toronto for the Titans and Toronto reunions. He worked for Johnny Powers more in the Clems. Leibland Buffalo territory than he did for the Sheik and Detroit, but, and for the IWA,
Starting point is 02:08:03 but here's the thing. I didn't remember why, but he did live in Kentucky and he owned a rubber band business that was very successful. One of the few guys of that era, Dave says, that was, that did well after he left the business. But yeah, he was a successful businessman and made more money in rubber bands in some fashion that he did in wrestling. So that was more on
Starting point is 02:08:32 beautiful Bruce Swayze and more on Supermouth Dave Drayson. He's off to Italy, Portugal, and Turkey for 28 days next week. It's for wine. It has to be for wine. It's, well, he just, he will not stop traveling the world and he goes for a month.
Starting point is 02:08:49 I have never been away from whatever home that I lived in in my life for a month straight, I would go out of my fucking mind. And he just flitters off a month. the debutantes and the sycophants and the people of the high tooting people around the world and just travels for months in the European areas. It's amazing.
Starting point is 02:09:13 You think Bruce Swayze, like, popped every time you heard the spinner's rubber bandman? That's me. I'm the rubber band man. You know what? That would have been great if he had that on his license plate. RBR, B, RB, B, D, and I don't, fuck. No, what.
Starting point is 02:09:30 Anyway, that's what's happening with Bruce Swayze. I got a local news story,
Starting point is 02:09:35 Brian, if you want to transition. Okay. I got another, this is not local like Louisville, but it's low,
Starting point is 02:09:40 it's Kentucky news. It's only about 90 miles, 80 miles maybe. So I just saw this on the, on the, came across the news desk.
Starting point is 02:09:51 They were going to have a big music festival and big festival up in northern Kentucky. That's basically the only location that I see that they've admitted to. Northern Kentucky is around Cincinnati,
Starting point is 02:10:07 so that's the metropolitan area, but maybe they were going to be out of a field somewhere. But it was going to be Patriots Day Freedom Fest. And it is now a conservative festival has been canceled days before it was set to take place in northern Kentucky and include speakers like Kid Rock. the festival's organizer, lawyer, and political commentator. Where's a lot of hats.
Starting point is 02:10:35 Eric Dieter's announced the cancellation of the free event. The cancellation of the free event. We'll come back to that phrase here in a second. On September 21st via Facebook Live, revealing that only six, six, $1,000 VIP tickets had been purchased. six to see well you're going to ask a question here and I think I know what you're going to ask
Starting point is 02:11:07 ask your question Kid Rock was singing or he was just speaking well apparently he was going to sing and speak as we're going to find out speakers that's what threw me off well there's calling him speakers but possibly I mean I don't know what the fuck that they were going to do here we're going to get into that
Starting point is 02:11:28 a second but the free event was canceled because they only sold six tickets. This is the best part. Here's what this guy was going to do. He was thinking that if he sold a hundred people, a thousand dollar ticket each, that he can pay for this thing and let everybody in free. This is going to be his business plan moving forward,
Starting point is 02:11:51 just so we got this idea here. He says, when I put together Patriots Day Freedom Fest, I put it together with the game plan and the idea that I could pay for it with VIP sales of $1,000 from these 100 people that I interact with on a regular basis. Deeters, who ran as a Republican for Kentucky governor in 2023 and for the state's fourth congressional district in 2024 criticized the lack of VIP sales, adding, I want to tell you something, rich people as a whole suck. there is going to be an O. Henry or maybe an Alfred Hitchcock ending to this, Brian,
Starting point is 02:12:33 but basically he says he's never going to do it again. This year's lineup was initially set to include speakers like Kid Rock, Dog the Bounty Hunter, Kentucky Republican congressional nominee Ed Galrine, Fox News contributor, blah, blah, blah, and basically he is trying to explain that there was no cause the cause of the cancellation was not low attendance
Starting point is 02:13:08 he shared photos of large crowds they've had from previous years these are the crowds we have at the Free Freedom Fest VIP tickets do not have Jack to do with our crowd people were stoked to see Kid Rock. So if you put fucking people out in a fucking field and tell people that they can come for free and drink beer and look at them,
Starting point is 02:13:34 they'll come, but nobody will buy a ticket to see this shit. And the bottom line is, here's his fucking quote, those people that didn't buy VIP tickets, it wasn't because they don't like Trump or don't support Trump. I know these people. They're all Trump supporters. The reason why they didn't buy VIP tickets is because they're just not very good human beings.
Starting point is 02:13:58 It's got nothing to do with Trump. It's to do with money. These people value money more than anything else in the world. It's sad. Jesus. He has just said that all these people are all Trump supporters and they're not very good human beings. I'm guessing this will be the final concert and a famous final scene there, but this has been... That was the, that's the fucking moral to the story.
Starting point is 02:14:30 You know, it wasn't that these people didn't buy tickets because they don't like Trump or don't support Trump. They all support Trump. They're just rotten fucking people. You know, it's when you blame the fans. That's where you have a problem. You start blaming the fans for your booking is when we have a problem. But this has been Kentucky concert news.
Starting point is 02:14:53 Jim, let's stay on the topic of following up. on things. We reviewed Raw earlier in the show. You have now had time since we have traveled through time and space to see the important stuff that you missed in the middle of the two and a half hour episode of Raw. Okay, first of all, it is somewhat of an indictment or a statement or something on the state of the Raw program in general that what you felt was the highlight of the program and the main event part of the show took place in backstage segments totaling less than two and a half minutes between the two of.
Starting point is 02:15:38 That's, first off, right there, in these normally throwaway backstage interview segments where everybody's standing there in the awkward stagger and then they interrupt each other at the appropriate time and they engage in their scripted banter that I've learned to completely tune out. And in this case, there wasn't really any reason for me
Starting point is 02:16:03 not to tune this one out, but I skipped over it instead. Fucking the Uso's and Jacob Fatu are in the back, and the Uso's want to do whatever the fucking Usoes want to do, and Jacob is giving them, they have now got Jacob
Starting point is 02:16:22 speaking in I guess it's the language of the streets that the kids are using these days, all the delinquents out on the corner, you know, running numbers and playing craps or whatever the kids do out on the streets. And it's such slang, it's like I'm watching the goddamn guys speaking in Spanish. I don't understand this shit either.
Starting point is 02:16:47 I don't know what the fuck he's talking about. But he's blistering them and income solo. waving a white flag on a little stick. And this is the bloodline, and we're supposed to believe these are Samoans, including Samoans that have been in jail, and they're doing the little white flag thing. And Solo wanted fucking,
Starting point is 02:17:13 hey, we all need each other or whatever the fuck. And they blow him off and get this out of my face. And so he went off. and Jacob, they're all pissed at each other. This is... They said he had to acknowledge Roman and the Uso's, and he said that's not going to happen, and his whole thing
Starting point is 02:17:35 that's gotten him over is now he's kind of a guy who does some funny stuff. Anti-establishment. Anti-establishment with props and some comedy chops. The bogus props and comedy chops of solo on tour one night only at each town.
Starting point is 02:17:54 but that's the point is that this to me the bloodline that was the bloodline angle and storyline or whatever you want to call it that captivated everybody got everybody's attention it was not only revolving around the big belt the world title and it had Roman Raines who had this universe in his orbit it also had Haman, and it had the intrigue and the gravitas as to which way that the indentured servants were going to break out, break loose of the evil chieftain and blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 02:18:41 And this, to me, is there a lot of guys that never have been the guy are all just fucking interacting with each other and some scripted banter. It doesn't, does it have the same charm to you? I don't know how to describe it. It's different. It's certainly different and not as serious. It doesn't feel as serious, which is something considering they do an abduction. Well, but it's a notch down from peak bloodline with Heyman. Maybe you could say even with Sammy.
Starting point is 02:19:13 It's still clearly the biggest thing on this show to the fans, but I'm a little tired of a lot of it. And I think a lot of other people are a little burned out on it. And that's with Roman Raines showing up every now and then. and doing very little when he's there. I mean, I'm not taking anything away from the match of Penta. That was a hell of a match. But how many matches like that is he had on Raw? Like very few.
Starting point is 02:19:37 He doesn't show up a lot of the time, and when he's there, it's a slow-moving promo. Yeah, the thing is, with the original bloodline again, half the time he was just sitting in the fucking chair and everybody was bouncing off or being sent off or interacting with him in the middle. But you had Heyman, he had Sammy. These guys, none of them talk like that.
Starting point is 02:19:58 They don't need to be doing scripted dramatics. Jacob is floundering at a group. How long is he going to take them to get him back to where people want to see him challenge for any goddamn major thing when he's been stuck in this fucking thing and just they're all nattering at each other? They're just rehashing. This is the second Tupelo concession. Stan Brawl.
Starting point is 02:20:28 But nevertheless, and then I know they want to get our friend Hoist Keys over. Oh, Powerhouse Keys, and his group of people that we just started seeing three weeks ago and had no idea that he'd ever met in his life until they showed up together. But now they're fucking jumping solo in the parking lot and beating him up and throwing him in the fucking. fucking, you know, the converted ice cream truck and kidnapping him, like a fucking, you know, molester on the streets.
Starting point is 02:21:06 What the, how many times have we seen over the last 20 years in this FACTA sports entertainment wrestling bullshit, somebody be attacked and thrown in the trunk and driven off with? I think the line in wrestling needs to be the guy comes in with. his face all beat up and said, the guy, run me off the road and beat me up, love me in the ditch. You can beat somebody up and leave them in a ditch, but when you actually
Starting point is 02:21:39 throw them in the trunk and take them somewhere, we got to have a fucking FBI agent. And who are we going to get to be the FBI agent? You see what I'm saying? I'm available for work. No, look, they... I said an FBI agent, not a fucking stooge. They incinerated a car last
Starting point is 02:21:59 week and now this. This is the kind of thing I kill AEW for, just these stupid, unnecessary kidnappings. It's a kidnapping. They kidnap solo in front of the cameraman and drove off. And I don't blame them. Hey, we burned this car last week and no one arrested us. Why don't we just up the ante and take another guy? Uh, you know, they're trying something. We haven't seen much of Hobbs other than these like phone videos that he shoots himself and an attack since he turned heel, so they're really trying to do all these things before they get him out in front of the fans again.
Starting point is 02:22:38 I'm not into this right now. I mean, I'm watching it, and it's not the worst shit ever, even though I don't like kidnappings, but this bloodline, Hobbs has his own group, LA Knight is just kind of in the middle of shit. I don't know.
Starting point is 02:22:55 I'm not, I'm not digging it. I'm not digging it. It was a thing that he came in. afterwards at the end he came running to their hood. They got who? They got solo? They got who? What happened to solo? Yeah. So how do you resolve it? Do they
Starting point is 02:23:13 bring him back or does he somehow get free and crawl to the arena? Right? And like you said, there's a way to do things. Someone shows up and says, I had a flat tire. Very successful angle. But you actually saw the kidnapping.
Starting point is 02:23:31 Now we need to see the arrest. Well, that's the thing is, I mean, we've seen, and I can't remember who it was because post-traumatic stress have put those things out of my mind. That's the point they're not memorable. It's just gaga. But remember somebody got kidnapped one time on one of these shows, and then you saw them taped to a chair at a dark room. I'm willing to believe it was AEW. And sometimes they get kidnapped, and then they show up the next week, and people are talking about, boy, he's. he had a rough time getting away.
Starting point is 02:24:05 I don't know what they're going to, but it's just, it's ridiculous. It's ridiculous. And especially if, if 9-9-9-88 is supposed to be as dangerous and is, probably has the record that we think they have,
Starting point is 02:24:23 this would be a parole violation at minimum, if they're as they are presented to be these street thugs. Oh, man, would that be a good manager? like this is your like if it's if the parole guy is a heel and on the side with the heels how would that work? You got to violate his parole, sir.
Starting point is 02:24:47 No, no, he's the victim of circumstance. Yeah. There's something they could try, but they could too bad they say Memphis TV they could come out and arrest him on the air like it did Billy Joe Travis. Just for the people who don't know, Mr. Travis, I believe, was in arrears on some type of child support or something of that nature.
Starting point is 02:25:10 And they came to TV 5 on live Memphis TV morning on Saturday morning to arrest him because they knew that's where he'd be. And who was it? Do you remember? Certainly it wasn't Randy Hales. There somebody. It might have been read. Somebody talked to him. It was still Jerry Jarrett was there.
Starting point is 02:25:31 I can believe he did it. but they talked the cops into waiting until they went on the air and arrested him live on the air so that they could work it into a goddamn deal somehow. I don't think it was Jerry Jarrett. Who would have had the silver tongue to Ben Abel? Well, it's Memphis. Randy Hales or Jerry Lawler? It's one of those two, I think.
Starting point is 02:25:51 I'm just thinking it, Lawler probably was there. But it was Memphis, so they were probably predisposed to want to be on TV anyway, on the wrestling show. Well, that was WWRWA. I'm sure it'll be exciting next week. Jim, speaking of exciting, we have some news for you. Let me pull this up. Is this what I've been teased with when you said right before we started rolling tape? Oh, did you hear the big news?
Starting point is 02:26:21 And I said, what big news? I'll just hold on. Well, Vince Rousseau took to Twitter. Oh, Christ. Last night, 847 p.m. 22nd of September. Here is his missive, and where he capitalizes something, I'll emphasize it, to my beloved supporters. Over the past weeks, I have received many emails, DMs, and text messages concerning my status with J.C.W. Lunacy.
Starting point is 02:26:56 Uh-oh. Uh-oh. For those of you who know me, you know I don't hide from the truth. I don't avoid the truth, and I certainly don't lie about the truth. The reason for my silence was that I just didn't know. I just needed some time. I've been unhappy for a while in J.C.W. Lunacy. I've been unhappy for a while. He's been there three months, ending?
Starting point is 02:27:27 What the fuck is this? And I'm not going to deny that. Something had to change. Without getting into specifics... Yeah, like facts. There were a lot of reasons with the biggest one being that at 65,
Starting point is 02:27:48 I'm not the same guy I was 30 years ago. Yeah, think? Things have changed. Life has changed. And more importantly, I've changed. A short while ago I had a phone conversation with Violent Jay, and we have amicably agreed to part ways.
Starting point is 02:28:09 Hey man, it was supposed to be for a few weeks, maybe a couple of months. But we killed it! Oh, good Lord! For an entire year. It's been a year? So now, it's time to move on. What the future holds? We shall see.
Starting point is 02:28:29 It's been a year. Has it been a year exactly, maybe? Because you know this weasel, because he sues people like crazy and or doesn't trust anybody. He probably gets his shit in writing. Do you think he made him sign him for a year? And now it's like, okay, this is up. Thank you very much.
Starting point is 02:28:49 Can we help you pack? I'd like to thank Violent J. One of the kindest, gentlest, most creative souls. I have ever met in my life. Wait a minute. I want to thank Violent J. One of the kindest gentlest. One of the kindest gentlest, most creative souls I have ever met in my life.
Starting point is 02:29:13 The JCW locker room who treated meat with the utmost respect and the entire crew who worked their arces off every day. Yeah, it was a wild ride. But now maybe I could finally take that nap. God bless, Vince. You can finally take it. I'm for him taking a nap if it's in topsoil, but. It was a wild ride now I could take that nap.
Starting point is 02:29:46 He was booking for a YouTube show that has no audience. What is he talking about? It was a wild ride for these shows we did once a month or whatever. What the, you know, I hate to see him go, you know, because I just knew that one of these days he was going to do something that gave us some more material. But we haven't even since the initial flurry of, look at what this fucking asshole is doing now.
Starting point is 02:30:20 When he went to work for the actual clowns to do the actual clowns' clown show, nobody said shit there's still nobody watching it it was the first few weeks of people thinking what could this be you know and believe it or not there is a very small audience
Starting point is 02:30:41 that actually thinks like he's the genius of the 90s and they're always disappointing because it never ever has reared its head again since Vince McMahon stopped overseeing him and this company wasn't ever going to go anywhere
Starting point is 02:30:55 I can't imagine they were paying him much because how could they, unless they were just going to blow him money. Well, they've got money from their bootleg music efforts so that they could be paying him, but I mean, you know, strange the things have happened. Yeah, I mean, again.
Starting point is 02:31:11 That guy just gave Rea Ripley 40 grand or whatever. So stranger things have happened, but... You know, Todd Gordon paid Eddie Gilbert a lot of money and moved him to Philadelphia to book ECW thinking that would be something that would, I don't know, turned a company around. It was a young company, but get the company attention, bring it to the
Starting point is 02:31:29 next level. And for a variety of reasons it didn't work out. And then he went with Haman. Do you think this is kind of the same thing? Let's give Rousseau a shot. Maybe he'll get us some attention. Maybe it'll get us some eyeballs. Maybe he has some creative ideas. And now it's like, he's not happy with the direction because, like, the whole thing doesn't make sense because he's older. He's changed so he doesn't like his own booking? right he's booking it i've changed right something else i well i think it probably he's figured out that he doesn't want to be around these fucking weirdos because he's a 60-something year old man whether the weirdos in the ring in the office or in the crowd if there is any crowd
Starting point is 02:32:16 uh it's also probably some of what you described that they that was part of his sales pitch i'm sure. Oh, you know, people will, they'll want to see me, bro, and they want to see my what I'm going to do, and blah, blah, blah. Yeah, they just put up a graphic a few weeks ago that I saw that was like, you know, look at how much success we've had since Vince Rousseau took over and it was, you know, this has improved 10,000 percent, you know, went from 30 to 60 people, whatever it was. Nothing from nothing leaves nothing. But that was part of his sales pitch. That was part of his sales pitch, you know,
Starting point is 02:32:53 and I'll be on camera, bro. I'll be a performer, bro. I'll do this, bro. He might have offered a clean the toilets out. I don't know. I'll book all this. I'm a genius. I'll bring my friend,
Starting point is 02:33:05 big Vito, who's 65 years old, is still dreaming. And that was part of the pitch. And I'm sure also that they, you know, some of it was valid that when they're starting out with five or 10,000 people watching something on YouTube, if 2,500 more would be an exponential improvement.
Starting point is 02:33:28 And then it just is what it is and they don't want to pay him no more. Don't want to pay you no more. He's going to sound like he's the one who was not happy. That he was unhappy for a while. Of course he is because they weren't going to just fucking broadcast. Hey, we're not fucking resigning Vince Russo. They weren't going to beat the man when he's down.
Starting point is 02:33:52 but he's trying to tell people it was, you know, if it was a raging success and anybody was either making a lot of money or having a ton of fun, it would be continuing. So it appears that none of those things were happening. So this is his way of, well, it's been great and I've done Wonders, but I've got to bow out for now, bro. I've been unhappy for a while I'm not the same guy I was 30 years ago
Starting point is 02:34:26 things have changed life has changed I've changed but he was booking it's not like he was just there and like a performer on TV he was the booker so it's a weird we'll see if we get to the bottom line he kissed enough violent J.S. that you would think maybe the clowns will let this statement lie
Starting point is 02:34:45 well they might still owe him his last check Do you think we'll ever see Vince Rousseau work for a reputable wrestling company ever again? I don't think we've been seeing Vince Rousseau working for a reputable wrestling company. But no, I mean, not only because, and the same thing applies to me that I'm fucking 65 now, and I don't want to work for any reputable anybody or irreputable anybody. I don't want to work for anybody. he's the point where just fucking just
Starting point is 02:35:17 go home if he wants to which he keeps begging and pleading and hinting and whatever nobody major is going to hire him because not only is he 65 years old
Starting point is 02:35:34 but also he's Vince fucking Russo and nobody wants that bullshit neither company that would hire him and pay him any amount of money, he doesn't fucking need him. With that said,
Starting point is 02:35:48 how long do you think it'll be before he blind emails Nick Con, Tony Con, and how are you, manual? Well, Triple H is fucking up. I could do it better. It depends on whether he already hasn't or not,
Starting point is 02:36:01 and that's part of the reason why he hadn't been happy for a while. Maybe he thought once he got on this show and proved his brilliance with the clowns that they'd be clamoring to take him away and the clamor did not did not clamor.
Starting point is 02:36:19 Well, today is indeed the day the clown cried. But Jim, maybe we can lift up the clown's spirits with some Willey's remedy. Brian, that is exactly right because I'll tell you what, Willys has done all the wrestling fans of favor after we have started talking about them and all the people started hopping on to Willie's bandwagon, the number one THC-infused beverage in the United States.
Starting point is 02:36:44 Well, used to, Brian, back in the old days, after we would watch one of these raw shows, everybody had to just get stinking fucking drunk. Just, just guzzle the hooch, just blackout drunk. Just, I mean, goddamn guzzling the Everclear and the ripple to try to forget, to try to lose track of reality and just not remember what we had just seen. Now, we don't have to do that, and that means we don't have any more raw hangovers. Because Willys is an alcohol alternative that actually works with no negative side effects, no hangovers, no regrets, no bad decisions, except for watching raw in the first place.
Starting point is 02:37:35 And with only 15 calories and three grams of sugar per serving, you've got all of the fun and none of the regret. it won't give you a hangover, won't give you a headache, and it won't make you fat, Brian. And three grams of sugar, what, what is that? Well, that wouldn't even make a good line to snort. So you don't have to worry about being a fat fuck either. Maybe they're all over the place with this one. I don't even know what to come back.
Starting point is 02:38:04 But the point is, don't do any of that. All you have to do, if you want to have a nice night, like Jim said, no hangover, nothing to worry. about, you could trust Willie Nelson. How can you not trust a man who wrote Blue Skies? Willie, and this is his remedy, and here's Jim on the correct path.
Starting point is 02:38:24 Well, it comes in five and ten milligram doses. Bottle, it doesn't come in just a five milligram, but the bottles where if you pour a shot over ice, then you can get the five milligram shot or the ten milligram shot, but not
Starting point is 02:38:43 in the same bottle, or you could take two shots of the five and then you'd have ten. Use as a... Ten will get you 20. Use as recommended by Willys on their Willie's bottles. Ten will get you 20, but Jim, speaking of numbers, we have a great deal for the listeners, I understand, that I know you have all the details about that deal. Yes, we do, and I will inform you, yes, that if you go right now to drink willies.com.
Starting point is 02:39:18 Drinkwillies.com is the site to go to and the place to be. And use the code JCE. You're going to get 20% off your first order and free shipping on orders over $95. So you're saving even more money there. So once again, drinkwillies.com. Use the promo code JCE. Take 20% off your first order. And then you're going to get free shipping.
Starting point is 02:39:46 If you purchase over $95 worth of willies, you stock up because you never know. This stuff sells out. It's very popular. And it, you know, just stock up. Have an archive, a trove. A willies seller. Just, you know, move the rack that you tie your wife up to in the basement.
Starting point is 02:40:09 Oh, right. There you go too far. And have a rack. Have a rack for the willies. In so many ways, in so many places, metaphorically speaking. Let me just add that here posthumously to the spot. But once again, Willys, that promo code. J.C.E.
Starting point is 02:40:28 Willys remedy, drinkwillys.com. Drink Willis every day. Drink Willis. That's what I say. See, I can write songs like Willie. Well, Jim, moving on here, for the love of God. as we get to the next segment we have another follow-up, Jim. Yes.
Starting point is 02:40:49 The fake Ria Ripley who conned a Pennsylvania man at a 42,000 and change apparently he's not the only person to run into a fake Rio Ripley. We heard about a fake Liv Morgan.
Starting point is 02:41:05 Let's go to this. This is from Channel 2, CBS... Oh no, Channel 21. The one was cut off here. CBS 21 in Pennsylvania, WHP. Let's go to this story. This week we told you about a Pennsylvania man who was scammed out of $42,000 when an alleged con artist pretended to be a WWE wrestler.
Starting point is 02:41:31 Thanks for being here at 11 o'clock. I'm Alex Thill. Shortly after that report that we did, another person reached out to us saying they too were a victim of the same scam. They chose to remain anonymous, but CBS 21, Sue John Eupretti spoke to them. to find out what happened. I wish that these people would get stopped because I don't want other people to deal with this. This all began two years ago
Starting point is 02:41:57 when the victim commented on Rea Ripley's post on social media. They say someone reached out to them and told to join the fan club of Rea Ripley, which would cost more than $1,000. The victim claims... Wait, what first of all... Why is this guy half screaming in a breathless fashion?
Starting point is 02:42:18 This guy has the worst voice I've ever heard on a news program in the United States. What the hell is that guy doing doing on the news? Well, it is central Pennsylvania. Well, back to the story here. $1,500 for the Ria Ripley fan club. It's a burglomer pretending to be W.W.E. superstar Raya Ripley even offered them a job on her management team. Well, I can't do that because I'm,
Starting point is 02:42:50 I can't do that because I don't have the requirements to do that. The conversation, can I just say, you know, I feel bad for anyone ripped off, but is that a voice filter, first of all? Is that a voice filter or is that the voice? And second, even if it's a voice filter, even if it's a voice filter unless they're really dumbing down to fucking translation. I have a feeling that's one of the many things this person might not be equipped to take on.
Starting point is 02:43:17 If they hit up like 50 people, 100 people, 1,000 people, this is the one guy they're hoping for. Just by hearing his voice, they got him. Station continued. And by the way, the quote was, I can't do that because I don't have the requirements to do that when they asked him to be a part of the management team. What is going on here?
Starting point is 02:43:36 Between the victim and the scammer over time. And eventually, the scammer, asked the victim to be in a romantic relationship to which they said yes. Eventually they asked me if I wanted to be their girlfriend and I just thought it was really flattering I guess in a way. Wait a minute, hold on. Hold on now. Some tenses I asked asked me if I wanted to be their girlfriend some this that's tortured grammar but also
Starting point is 02:44:11 So he didn't have the requirements to join the management team, but he has the requirements to successfully fuck Ria Ripley? Just a thought. In person, it wasn't long before the request for money began. I needed just a little bit extra money to pay for a costume, like my outfit, for this match that's coming up tomorrow or today. The victim told me they were pressured to buy guys. gift cards worth more than $1,000 on weekly basis.
Starting point is 02:44:46 I was uncomfortable and they would just tell me like, oh well, you would help me out if you loved me. The victim says they spent over $6,000 on gift cards and after a couple weeks of staying out of contact, they reached out again, proclaiming their love and care for the victim. And then, they told me that I needed to give it, give it to the through either PayPal or a cash app. The victim says they sent more money through different platforms, ultimately totaling $48,000. Jesus Christ! They thought that I was their soulmate before I sent it to my...
Starting point is 02:45:29 $48,000 worth his dick oughta be raw by now. I'm like, I really hope that this isn't fate. Messages shows the scammers started threatening the victim, even saying they would blackmail. Yeah, there's a, this text on the screen, and this is the actual text. Then I will blackmail you, okay? Them if they stop sending money. The victim says they reached out to a cybersecurity company who tracked the activity to Nigeria and New Jersey. Nigeria and New Jersey.
Starting point is 02:46:08 That's a weird combination. There's a fucking connection, Brian. I don't know. You got to go undercover up there. It's right in your backyard. You could bust this case. I don't know why. It reminds me years ago the Mrs. Spencer calls when she was on there.
Starting point is 02:46:20 She's talking to John Clark, and she's like, I've tracked the phone calls to Woodbury, New Jersey, Honduras, New Jersey, and Canada. And he was like, he was like, is even that one. That wasn't us, you know? Well, let's go back to this. This year. The victim says they did reach out to police in their home state of Arizona, but not much of was able to be done because of the scammer being out of country. So Johnny Pready, CBS, 21 News.
Starting point is 02:46:48 Well, there it is. That's the update on the Rio Ripley story. Apparently, it sounds like that may be the move. You look for a sap that responds to something on social media, and then you privately message them. Like, hey, I just happen to notice you. Send me money. Let's be in a relationship. Crazy. I swear to God, the things that people come up with to do,
Starting point is 02:47:11 these days is it's harder than just going and getting a fucking job. It's more difficult and more time consuming and more stressful. Just go get a fucking job. Well, I'm sure this is not the last we're going to hear of fake wrestlers asking for money from people. Well, no, that's been going on for 100 years, but I'm talking about the stuff that's going on now. I believe someone told me Adam Pierce put out a statement saying,
Starting point is 02:47:41 WWE wrestlers will never request money from you, just because this is obviously a day. I thought you were going to say Adam Pierce put out of state was saying, hey, can you help a brother out? Well, there it is, Jim. That's the Ria Ripley update. Staying on the topic of updates, real quick, I want to say that we heard from Sean Ng of KWK,
Starting point is 02:48:04 makers of fine wrestling toys. Just wanted to clarify from our previous conversation about Pat Tanaka, that he is not getting a cut of the bookings. He's just trying to help Pat out because they have their figure deal, and he likes Pat. And he's trying to do right by Pat and help him out. I thought you were going to say, I've got an update from Sean Eng concerning Pat Tanaka, who is not still in the ditch. Well, on that topic, we heard from the company AIW, and they still have not heard back from him if his plane has landed or not.
Starting point is 02:48:46 And then apparently someone else got in touch, and this one is unverified, but they were claiming that Pat no-showed something else the next day. But I don't know. The point is, I think, it was important to Sean that we let people know he's not getting a cut. He's just trying to help Pat out. Well, good. Help Pat out of the ditch. And that's the Pat Tanaka update. Jim, why don't we preview this weekend's AEW pay-per-view event,
Starting point is 02:49:10 all out Chicago? Oh, I guess we have to. Might as well. This will be coming from Hoffman Estates, Illinois, the now arena, September 26th, a Saturday show. Would this be a preview or a warning? It's all in the eye of the beholder, I presume. But Jim, these are the matches so far.
Starting point is 02:49:33 as always with Tony Khan you should probably expect one or two more to be announced up to the moment the show starts so we don't know when but for the pre-show in a tornado tailgate brawl oh good god
Starting point is 02:49:50 almighty the pre-show is a tornado not even a regular tailgate brawl but the tornado tailgate brawl the bang bang gang of Jay White Ace Austin
Starting point is 02:50:03 Austin and Colton Gunn with Juice Robinson versus Death Riders of Garcia and Yuda and the dogs, David Finley and Clark Connors. Juice is my favorite one out of the bunch and he's in the corner. A prediction for this match, for this big match? Yes, it's going to be a cluster fuck and somebody will end up getting suplexed into the tailgate. I don't fucking know. on the pre-show.
Starting point is 02:50:35 We ain't going to watch it anyway. Well, Jim, also on the pre-show, a big singles match. Jack Perry versus Shibata. Shippoo-pee, Shib-poopy. I miss singing about him.
Starting point is 02:50:50 Where's he been? So he's been getting his yearly brain inspection? Wherever the ops are, I guess. We haven't seen any of that in a while. So, old Jungle Jack, just re-signed
Starting point is 02:51:05 and put the announcement out and he's wrestling on the pre-show. He, well, he resigned a couple months ago now, but he resigned and then we don't, he's not been around much. Don't get around much anymore. Yeah, who cares? All right, I agree.
Starting point is 02:51:25 For the AEW National Championship on the pre-show. No, this is not the regular show. Oh, it's the regular show. Okay, I'm sorry. The champion Andrade El Edelow versus PAC. Well, this obviously is meant to be, meant to be a good win for Andrade. They're not going to switch the bell and put it on pack with all the push they've given Andre,
Starting point is 02:51:53 the time and effort they put into his coat and his hat and the whores he takes the pictures with. So this is going to be one of the where it's going to be a great match, just a great great match for fucking ever. If it goes 20 minutes, at what minute do you think Andrade will approach a woman sitting ringside
Starting point is 02:52:15 who stands out like a sore thumb who wants to take a picture with him? Since it's pack and he's probably going to have pretty good cardio, not going to need too many rest spots, I'd say halfway through. About 10 minutes in. Okay, and we're going based on if it's 20 minutes,
Starting point is 02:52:34 so we can kind of scale this if it goes a little more. Yeah. I'm going to say 12 minutes. It would be more than halfway through the match that he approaches a woman and then takes off his pants. So we'll see who's right, and that is a fun way to look at it. Oh, my God. What the fuck.
Starting point is 02:52:58 Jim, for the international championship, the champion Okada. Wait a minute, now we had the national. Yes. Now we got the international. Let's keep track of these. National international. Okay, who is it? The champion Kazushka Okata
Starting point is 02:53:14 versus Tomaso Champa. You know what? I may watch that just to see Tomaso just beat the shit out of that boring son of a bitch and and see how many shortcuts, Cotta can come up with, figure out to take with Tomaso,
Starting point is 02:53:38 who's very animated to say the least. So we'll see what happened. Obviously, with the love that they have for this slug, Tomaso is not going to win. Tony will not allow anybody to beat this fucking lazy, boring
Starting point is 02:53:54 sack of fucking charisma vacuum. So, but it'll be a great, great match. Big, big, great swell match. All right, and you are predicting Okada will win. Yes. In a match, Jim, to determine the number one contenders to the World Tag Team Championship,
Starting point is 02:54:17 Darby Allen, and Stephen Borden versus the Callis family of Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher. That's going to be a real test for Steve Borden. Well, and that's the problem. is do you remember what match it was that they said everybody in the wrestling business in and out fans and people in the business alike said made Sting a star Brian what was that match oh clash of champions rick foyer versus sting in 1988 and how long had sting been wrestling at that point? Two and a half years, three years.
Starting point is 02:55:01 Yep. And Sting had a lot of fucking experience because he went to Mid-South. He wrestled every night. He fucking suddenly, regardless of the, what I think of their goddamn whole product and the booking of that, they're just, they're punishing this kid because of who is.
Starting point is 02:55:26 father is because Tony doesn't know how to fucking give a guy time to get over. They, he may be, not only get over, but learn. He may be impressing him in his workouts in the gym, but now this guy has had literally three matches in front of any number of people. And, and he's in the number one contender match against Kevin Knight and Kyle Feltcher, who they are pushing and are say what you want about their drawbacks. They have a lot of positives.
Starting point is 02:56:02 They're athletic and they can go and they and Derby his whole thing. But no, just because the guy can leapfrog and drop kick and looks like a star doesn't mean you put him in this high profile a position yet in his third fucking match or whatever this is.
Starting point is 02:56:24 And Fletcher and, night are both pretty high-impact high-fliers. You know, they'll do the high-flying moves, but Fletcher, specifically, will land on his head, land on his neck. Well, that's the thing is these guys, the stuff that they do that all the AEW fans like requires a little goddamn cooperation and precision on the other side of it, too. And if they're trying to do this shit with Stephen, who may be well-intentioned and working his ass off, he just, he's done this fucking three times at a lot.
Starting point is 02:56:55 level like this. And then did somebody say he'd had a handful of matches somewhere else? I don't know. But anyway, nevertheless, moving on. Jim, in a match to determine the number one contender for the AEW Women's World Championship. Well, what is it? Techla versus Willow Nightingale. That might be one of the more interesting women's matches that they can put together. I might watch that instead of some of these goofy fucking men, but two number one contender matches
Starting point is 02:57:30 in a row after two title matches. I sense patterns here. Well, yeah, we don't know how they'll order things the night of the show. It could all change. Well, I'm just saying they have five, six, seven title matches on
Starting point is 02:57:46 every show, or they have multiple, multiple person matches or multiple number one contender match or multiple whatever the fuck. how is it we can't spread this shit out a little bit? Well, Jim, any prediction there for the number one contender? Number one contender to Mercedes- Monet. Well, Willow would be natural with what has gone on,
Starting point is 02:58:11 but I think Thetla might be more entertaining. In a trios match for the World Trio's Championship. Well, there you go. Now it's a multiple person and another title. Swerve Strickland and the New League. level the champions versus the demand of ricochet and the gates of agony versus hangman Adam Page and bro Dito. It's a multiple man, multiple team title.
Starting point is 02:58:45 Certainly to God, one would imagine that the new new day wouldn't get beat yet, and swerve is also a you know a fairly major star however old bandito and brodito and the other fucking goof Tony loves them
Starting point is 02:59:09 but good heavens their baby faces but swerve and the new day were swerve or they are now but swerve wasn't somebody just needs to beat rickishish I don't know.
Starting point is 02:59:25 This makes no sense. Well, Tony's really been doubling down on the trios division, or tripling down, I guess we could say. Jim, in a Chicago street fight for the Women's World Tag Team Championship. Oh, God damn it. The champions, the brawling birds versus divine dominion.
Starting point is 02:59:49 Which is Megan Brain and the other big girl, right? That's right. Who's the champions now? The brawling birds. Well, then the brawling broads will beat up the fucking dominions, the dominatrixes, whatever the fuck they are. Chicago street fight. Well, yes, because why wouldn't it be they're in Chicago? Why wouldn't they have a girl's street fight for the world girls' title on the same
Starting point is 03:00:23 card as a three-way six-man, nine-man tag team match for the tag title and international title and a national title and the number one contenders to the titles. Got to have a girl street fight in there. Well, Jim, the action continues in a three-way ladder match for the World Tag Team Championship. Are you ribbing me? That's right. There they are, aren't they? Cage and Cope, the Champions, versus FTR versus the Young Bucks. So, on the same way, on the same show,
Starting point is 03:01:10 as they're having a three-way ladder match that involve two of their biggest names, Christian Cage and Edge, two of their best workers in FTR and T.R. two of their office stooges and the buckaroos to top that and before that takes place probably they're going to have a three-way six-man tag team title match. A prediction is needed. A prediction is a prediction is that Cajun Edge will retain because they are too big of a marks everybody else in the company to beat Cajun Edge. in a ladder match.
Starting point is 03:02:00 Finally, Jim, for the AEW World Championship, Will Osprey, the champion, versus John Moxley, the dope. Good Lord. Well, it's going to be especially boring when Moxley keeps going for that fucking choke after we've seen nine guys try to climb ladders and swing from trapezes earlier.
Starting point is 03:02:27 they always try to take care of Moxley but obviously they're completely certifiably insane if they beat Osprey for the Belt is quick so it'll be some kind of garbage indie match finish where Osprey wins but then the death riders put him in a goddamn propane tank and turn the gas on I don't know
Starting point is 03:02:52 do you think Will Osprey will pull the trigger Oh yes, but we've established he's shooting blanks. If the match goes 30 minutes, at what point in the match do you think will be the final time they stand toe to toe the middle of the ring and exchange blows? 28. 28, okay. I'm going to say, shit, that's, foof, 20,
Starting point is 03:03:22 they need a few minutes for the Moxley choke sequences. And then mox's... Yeah, I didn't think about it. You might say 26 and come close to... Yeah, I'm going to go with 25. Ah, well, you know what? 26 sounds good. I'm going to go with 26.
Starting point is 03:03:36 Yeah. Because they need time to do it. And then I feel like Osprey's going to do moxley shit the moxley too. Because I feel like this is like one of those times we're going to see the silly moxley faces, which would only happen if he's getting choked that he sticks out his tongue and makes a silly face. So I'm going to say 26 minutes. We'll see the... blows and then it'll be the sequence at the end and then Will Osprey will have to pull the trigger.
Starting point is 03:04:02 Capao! Capo! And that's AEW All Out and just before we move on quickly for the record, this is the WWE show running directly against it from the Allstate Arena, Rosemont, Illinois, the Rosemont Horizon. Here's the card. La Catalina versus Roxanne Perez for the A, A, for the AAA, for the AAA, Raina de Reina's Championship. The Lucha Brothers...
Starting point is 03:04:29 So they're going to do the same thing, basically start in the first match for the title. Go ahead. The Lucha Brothers versus Peros del Marl tag team match. Las Toxicas versus Fatal Influence in a Trio's match. Dragon Lee versus Jack Cartwheel. Who the hell is that? What the fuck is that? Jack Cartwheel is signed to Triple...
Starting point is 03:04:53 You know that actually, that's... Probably the, that should be the name, the stock name that they use when nobody wants to take a credit in AEW, because that sounds like the prototypical AEW wrestler, Jack Cartwheel. In a Ravelos Atomacos de Locura match, Mr. Iguana, La Parca, Adela Licious, if that's how you say that, and Masquerita Sagrada versus the Vanity Project, a Brad Bailer, Ricky Smokes, Michael Lockwood and Mini Abysmo Negro
Starting point is 03:05:30 Also there'll be a fatal four-way match to determine the number one contender to the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship Axiom versus Mini Vikinggo versus Javon Evans versus E.K.
Starting point is 03:05:46 Wait a minute. Hold on. Hold on here. Why is Mini Vikingo in there with... Doesn't that mean he's a mini? But hold on. Vikingo was like 5-2, wasn't he?
Starting point is 03:05:55 Approximately. He's alive. I guess what is this guy? Two feet six? What are they just chop him off at the waist? Hold on a mini. Wheel him out on a fucking flat bed. The wrestler we know is Vikingo is El Hijo do Vikingo.
Starting point is 03:06:12 He is five foot five, according to this. I'm not seeing too much on... Why is poor Javon Evans in here fighting a midget? Well, now I'm intrigued. Now I may have to see this match. What exactly? is. But again, who all is it again? It's Axiom, Mini Vikingo, Javon Evans, and E.K. Prosper from NXT.
Starting point is 03:06:37 Sounds like a fucking author of children's novels. And finally, Jim, C.M. Punk, Ray Mysterio, and El Grande Americano versus Omos, Dominic Mysterio, and J.D. McDonough. We need to watch that. If we can. They have thus far... Why can't we? They have thus far...
Starting point is 03:07:02 Have they put us on a band list? We'll sue. Oh, you know what? We're the part of the free press. Apparently it will be on YouTube, so we'll be able to check this out. Sons of bitches. But this is obviously something they're doing to try to hurt AEW, but AEW sold out their show, so it didn't really hurt them in any way.
Starting point is 03:07:20 But that's the big night in Chicago. And of course, Jim, all that wrestling, you need to focus. You need to sit down and focus. and pay attention to at least one match at a time, or focus on your editing, like I do, a great example that everyone can relate to, Jim, our friends at Ultra Pouches. Well, most people edit their own highly rated podcast at home,
Starting point is 03:07:44 but I'll tell you what, most people are sitting here watching these programs, and they're drooping by the end of them, because they're very long and boring and repetitive, they're wrestling, and therefore, you need some focus, you need some contrast, Confrontation and concentration. You need to pick me up to zone you in. And I'll tell you what, you stick enough of these ultra pouches in your jaw. You'll be picked up all right.
Starting point is 03:08:13 Boy, howdy, you'll pick up a stick and go out in a yard and start wailing on people. No. Once again, you start with one. Always read the label. Just read the label. Read the label. Let's say start with one. Maybe eventually go to two.
Starting point is 03:08:26 If you're really used to it, maybe three. and that's it. And then, you know, 15 will get you putting a, you'll be living on the bounty of the county. Not at once over the hours. Oh, boy, I'll tell you what, it brings out the beast, but, uh, what do you say?
Starting point is 03:08:43 You'll be awake. You'll be awake. Of course you'll be awake. What the hell is that? You'll be awake. You'll never sleep again. You'll never sleep. No matter how hard you try.
Starting point is 03:08:56 Sleep will happen as normal. Well, that's if you follow your normal directions, and that's what we all need to do in life because the nicotine pouches are just not good. They're bad for you because they got nicotine. And the coffee and the energy drinks, it gives you the hebi-gebys and the shakes and the shivers and the shimmies. And, you know, not everybody is my sister Kate
Starting point is 03:09:21 and needs to be shimying around, you know, with the flaps and the folds of loose flesh and skin, looking like that guy that gets shot in the belly with the cannonball in slow motion, you don't want to look like that. So get away from the caffeine and the nicotine and the energy drinks and the cups of coffee. It'll give you anxiety. And you'll think that everybody's out to get you. And it's not that you're going to be paranoid.
Starting point is 03:09:48 It's just you're probably a dick and everybody's out to get you. But nevertheless, the ultra pouches don't have all that. They're nicotine free, caffeine free. because Ultra has partnered with leading neuroscientists. You know what a neuroscientist is, don't you, Brian? A brain surgeon. And who is the stereotypical model of a genius? Everybody, well, he's no brain surgeon.
Starting point is 03:10:13 Well, these motherfuckers are brain surgeons. And they're telling you, just flat out, we've told Ultra how to make these pouches. You need to stick them in your face and your brain will just, it'll grow to the point where it swells inside your head to you can see your veins throbbing through your scalp. And when you've got a big brain, that's when you know it's good. Bigger brains are better, smaller brain, not see what happened to the dinosaurs?
Starting point is 03:10:42 Because their brains were the size of a walnut because they had no ultra pouches. If we'd have been able to stick an ultra pouch in the jaw of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, well, right now we'd all be fucking food for the ball. Folks, if you're fasting or on a diet, Ultra pouches actually help quiet cravings. Whereas before, if you were like begging, please, please give me some food, please. You take one of these, you won't be able to speak. It'll shut you right up.
Starting point is 03:11:13 And it'll suppress your appetite. You ain't going to feel like eating after you take one of these. So folks, once again, you will just do it the right way. Just get, oh, ah, what's the matter? I don't, there's so much, there's so much that people need to understand. Life is a bowl of cherries, but you need, just, just, ah. Watch out for the pits, but you know what Jack Feffer used to say? Life is like a pickled herring, you have to taste it to like it.
Starting point is 03:11:51 and right now folks you can taste these ultra pouches and they do have a limited time only pickled herring flavor they certainly do not have that that is a awful idea it's limited time it's limited to never it's limited to never but they do have cool mint wintergreen tropical watermelon and blue razz so ultra is the ultimate guilt-free pouch folks delivering instant focus and mental clarity and also strict concentration. You will do everything they say without nicotine or caffeine.
Starting point is 03:12:31 And new customers right now can use the code JCE to get 15% off these fine pouches at Take Ultra.com. Now, that's, they're same size pouches. You're just going to get 15% off the price. Take Ultra.com 15% off with the promo code J-Case. and you'll just be right as rain. And also coming soon in Soylent Green flavor. Again, we're looking out for that one.
Starting point is 03:13:01 Don't look out for that. It won't be happening. That'll also be limited to never. But I like them for editing and we think you'll like them to. Ultra Pouches, our good friends at Ultra. And Jim, from there, when we move on here with the show, there's so much more to get to. Let's get a question or two.
Starting point is 03:13:21 This one was sent to corny drive-thru at gmail.com from Jeff Pollard, Leesville, Louisiana. Wait a minute, wait a minute. Is he related to snub Pollard or his son Michael J. Pollard? I'm not sure. But it says, what is the story behind Bill Watts's brief run in the WWF in 1995? Well, he didn't have a... A run indicates that he was wrestling on the roster, but he was hired because Vince was distracted
Starting point is 03:13:59 and had a variety of things going on. And the thought was that Watts would take over managing the wrestling operations and to create it. And this, unfortunately, was right before I moved up there, I would like to have got a chance to have seen all this in person, but they were having meetings where, you know, Watts was trying to inject his style of wrestling into the WWF. And there was one time that, well, I'll save that for a second because that was the last time.
Starting point is 03:14:35 But basically, that's what it was. Watts was, I can't remember what was his title, Vice President of Wrestling or something like that for Titan Sports? Oh, I'm not sure. I'm not sure. But he was supposed to be leading the creative while Vince Constraved. more on. This was right after the steroid thing and had blown over, but at the same time, this was the year that Vince found out that he had lost like several million dollars,
Starting point is 03:15:01 and he was just, again, trying to do something new. And for a brief period there, what was at six weeks, whatever, Watts was given the finishes at TV and, you know, given the instructions, and I loved that. And we even did an old Mid-South wrestling-style angle where me and my heels, whoever the fuck they were at that point in time, Owen Davy, I still had Yoko, maybe this was before Vader,
Starting point is 03:15:35 but we kicked the shit out of the baby faces to go off the air and left people all up and everything. And then Vince called everybody back at our we actually had to go to the studio and stamp for days later and do an extra interview and he changed the order of the show and put the show closing beat down where it's breaking loose and fucking mohegan sun or wherever the fuck it was he made that the first match and then we did an interview about it in the middle of them and just changed it all up and wats had been there like i said like six weeks and went it like what the fuck are you doing well you know
Starting point is 03:16:15 how it works this, to do this, and that's when Watts said, you know what, Vince, I appreciate the opportunity here, but there's only room for one Titan in Titan sports. And that's you. I'm going home.
Starting point is 03:16:28 And he left and went back to Oklahoma. Vince just couldn't, he couldn't keep his eyes off of it, his hands off of it is like a lot of things. He couldn't keep his hands off anything. How much of it was about Sean Michaels being pushed as the world champion? That may have been a bone of contention because Watts was not as enamored of Sean as Vince was,
Starting point is 03:16:56 but it was just the general, no, he's not going to give me any time to do any goddamn thing my way. All right, our next question, Jim sent to corny drive-thru at gmail.com was sent by Chris in Texas. Do you have any insight about the bad blood between Bobby Heenan and the Valiant brothers? I've always heard rumors about it being money-related, and allegedly Jimmy Valiant forced his 12-year-old son to get a tattoo. Do you have a clue as to why Heenan hated those guys, and what's the story behind the animosity? His son, I don't think he was 12. I took handsome Jimmy Jr.'s baby picture. He was born in like 1979 or whatever. And as a baby, they painted his thumbnail silver like handsome used, you know, because he covered his blade up with that.
Starting point is 03:17:54 With his thumbnail painted silver, you couldn't fucking tell that he got to, he had his blade and his thumb. And I think they painted on a star on his ear for a ear tattoo, but I don't know when he got his first tattoo. I remember Bobby saying something like that. He made his son get a tattoo. I think that Bobby and the Valiant brothers graded on each other when they were together on the road. And that was before I had met Hansom. I never had any problem with Hansom.
Starting point is 03:18:25 I know that there was some people who, handsome Jimmy had the reputation for never paying for anything and never actually driving. his own car to a point where I've said before you'd see Hansom's car parked at a fucking gas station on the way to Rock Hill South Carolina it was 13 miles from Charlotte but he stopped to get a ride with the Italian stallion or when they went out to Western North Carolina they had the grocery stores the little mom and pop groceries and little small towns that they knew if they walked in the owners were fans and they would just load them up with bags of free groceries but
Starting point is 03:19:10 At that point, because handsome was a baby face and it was charming and it was the Carolinas. They loved doing it, these people. But it graded on Bobby that Jimmy and Johnny both, and I don't know which one was worse, were always trying to get something for free or get over on somebody for something. And they just never got along. I've heard Heenan interviews where he just went off. like they're degenerates, degenerates. Yeah.
Starting point is 03:19:42 And you think about how close he was when a lot of his guys in the 70s, I mean, him and Bachwinkle, you still think of them. Well, he and Von Rasky were close friends, and he and Bachwinkle and he and Stevens and most of the guys, but that was, that was,
Starting point is 03:19:59 the Valiants were one of his first teams after the blackjacks. Oh, and he and Lanzah loved each other. But, but no, It didn't work. Did not work. All right, Jim, we have another update on the medical condition of Cota Ibusci. Oh, Lord.
Starting point is 03:20:19 I'm going to have to read a translation here. Let me go to this. Let me go to this first. Does something have to translate Cota Ibushi for artificial intelligence so that it understands him? Well, he's standing in what appears to be a hospital. room wearing a, I guess maybe the hospital effort, wears pajamas, I'm not certain, but here's the quote. I am truly sorry to everyone. I'm Cota Abushi, a professional wrestler
Starting point is 03:20:51 currently sideline due to a leg injury. Hold on, this is going faster that I could, because it's translated while I'm reading it. To repay the love I have for professional wrestling, which has fulfilled so many of my dreams, I will put my body on the line to earn 100 million yen and build a professional wrestling venue. It's been
Starting point is 03:21:15 almost a year since I suffered a fractured femur in an accident during a match last November. But a recent checkup revealed that the bone hasn't healed at all. As a result, I underwent surgery last Thursday to replace the bolt in my
Starting point is 03:21:33 leg with a thicker one. Fortunately, the surgery was successful. And was this surgery after we just had an update on him, he had just made a statement about the pain that he was in and the blah, blah, of what he was going through?
Starting point is 03:21:49 This was, I guess, a day or two later. Fortunately, the surgery was successful, but I learned a few things from it. It seems that a return to professional wrestling is almost impossible. The plate that was replaced this time will not be removed from my perspective. or from my...
Starting point is 03:22:09 The plate that... Hold on. The lost in translation here, folks. The plate that was replaced this time will not be removed from my perspective in the future and will remain like this for life. Thanks to the treatment, I can now go about my life without any problems. But apparently there's a high chance it will break again if I do professional wrestling. That sounds like a problem.
Starting point is 03:22:33 When that happens, even daily life becomes difficult. In the past, I would have tried to make a comeback, but I'm confused, because I don't feel that motivation anymore. Is it due to age? Perhaps my body has come to understand that with these legs, I may never be able to return to my prime. That's what I thought. I'm completely recovered after just two days since the surgery. Even though a comeback seems hopeless, I will definitely reaffirmed. return to the ring.
Starting point is 03:23:10 I don't know how many years it will take, but I will never give up. How many years? And he's all over the place. He's saying it's impossible. He's not going to do it, but he is going to do it, but he's not sure he can do it. But if he does it, shit's going to happen. However, my leg is in pretty bad shape. So I'm going to stop pushing as hard as I used to. And that's the end of the quote there.
Starting point is 03:23:34 And he touched on something early on. Apparently he's put out other videos about trying to raise money to build a pro wrestling venue in Japan. So obviously, if you wanted to make an investment in real estate, Kota Ibushi is the person you'd give your money to. How much, to Google this, oh, Google Master, how much is $100 million in regular American greenbacks so we can get some kind of scale here, some kind of reference point, context of what he's got in front of him
Starting point is 03:24:06 trying to do to raise this money? million yen is approximately $631,538. And 40 cents. Well, that'll 630 grand. That'll build you a fine arena. What the fuck? You can't build a goddamn
Starting point is 03:24:24 house big enough to hold a couple of hundred people for 600 grand anymore, can you? You got to buy the land first. Beyond the building of the thing, you have to have the land first. and parking? I would think it's probably hard to get land in Tokyo. I don't know that for certain,
Starting point is 03:24:46 but I would think it would be hard to find just empty lots to build a wrestling arena. So where's this going to be exactly? I don't know. He heard us talking about WWB building their own building in the middle of nowhere and seat of people who come. And he's, that's what I'm going to do. Well, that's the update, once again from Koda Abushi.
Starting point is 03:25:05 We've been staying on top of this big story. health and whatever the hell else is going on there. Jim, as we begin to wrap things up here today, let's do a retro figures update, because I got a whole bunch of these on my desk, and it's time to clear this off. Oh, and that fell. Jim, I have a few here from the aforementioned KWK,
Starting point is 03:25:30 Sean Eng's company, and this one, let's talk about these. The first one here, with three, title belts, Tenru, All Japan Wrestling Legend, Tenru,
Starting point is 03:25:43 and then, of course, he did things after all Japan, but I still think of him as all Japan, Tenru, with the Triple Crown. Three titles here.
Starting point is 03:25:51 What are your thoughts on Tenru? And the Triple Crown, and a lot of this is the inspiration on Tony Khan's demented mind, but the Triple Crown Championship
Starting point is 03:26:05 was when they had unified three different individual championships that had had some level of tenure and seniority
Starting point is 03:26:14 and history behind them what were the three you're the better Japanese expert I think it was
Starting point is 03:26:19 the PWF World Championship which was the Pacific Wrestling Federation and that was Baba's title that he
Starting point is 03:26:26 held until they were able to get or sometimes when they even when they had the NWA
Starting point is 03:26:34 recognition and etc he was the PWF champion And I looked it up so we can make sure we get this right. It's the PWF championship, the NWA United National Championship, and the NWA International Heavyweight Championship.
Starting point is 03:26:49 I remember that big United National, the big UN belt. It was like, it went from guys' nipples to their dicks, right? And the United National belt is the belt that, you know, goes back to Fez and Ricky Dozan. So that one was the one with the real tradition. So they had had over a period of. of, what would that have been 20 years? They had these three titles and they unified them
Starting point is 03:27:13 to make it more important and that was that title. And that is this figure, Tenru in the Hasbro style for those of you looking to complete your WWF early 90s collection. He was one of the many people that helped Jim Cornetta sell the
Starting point is 03:27:29 Undertaker at Royal Rumble 1994 1994. You know what? And that's the goddamn thing is if you'd have held a gun to me, I didn't remember that why was he even here for that brief period of time? Vince was going to do something with the Japanese office, and they came over for two weeks, and Tenoroo was at the pay-per-view,
Starting point is 03:27:51 and he never saw him again. I don't even remember. Why don't we stay on this topic? The next figure from KWK and the Hasbro style, there are three variants, red pants, purple pants, black pants, all with interchangeable heads. so that it could blow mist, the great Kabuki,
Starting point is 03:28:09 another person who helped you assail the Undertaker. That's right. Why was Kabuki there? For the same reason and for about the same amount of time? Yeah, for the Royal Rumble. Yeah. But obviously Kabuki was legitimately one of the hottest guys and the hottest heels in the business in what, 1983 from the run in world class,
Starting point is 03:28:34 It was a perfect combination with him and Gary Hart. That's exactly the kind of guy. He owned that Gary Hart liked to manage, it was good at managing and creating the gimmicks and the mystery around it and everything. And then, you know, he had a good career when he went back to Japan, but there was never really any, he didn't really have any presence in the United States after that,
Starting point is 03:29:01 except on occasionally on a one-off. trip like this thing was, and then Muda was kind of like the next iteration of Kabuki five years later. Well, these are very nice figures. Again, they each come with a head you could change so that it could blow a mist bubble, and they all have nunchucks. I wish that they'd always had figures in wrestling. You could interchange the head for better blowing.
Starting point is 03:29:28 All right. I don't know where this just went. This went under the toilet. but one more figure, Jim, from KWK, part of their club K-Fave exclusives. This one's in a signed bag. A signed bag. A signed bag.
Starting point is 03:29:43 The bag is signed in red marker. Mario Mancini. Does it look like when the people at Starbucks write your name across the coffee cup? Like that. Enjoy your day. Mario Mancini. No, it doesn't say that.
Starting point is 03:29:57 Mario Mancini, you know, was he mad at us recently? because we didn't know shit from Apple Butter about what went on with that girl referee that had the beef with Vince. Oh, I don't know. I know he's really like involved with all of her stuff. I don't know.
Starting point is 03:30:11 Has he ever said anything about us? I don't remember that. No, I'm saying, was he the one somebody was taken up for her on the internet when we were reading some news items? We didn't say anything bad about her? Yeah, I don't know what they would have a problem with us about.
Starting point is 03:30:26 I don't know. I remember Mario Mancini's name from the television, but I'm not personally acquainted with you. He was a longtime enhancement talent for WWE. I think he was part of that crew from Connecticut at a Tony Altamore's school, who eventually they all kind of fell out of favor with Vince.
Starting point is 03:30:45 And, yeah, I think he claims that he was kind of originally, the thing I've seen, and I got to double check this, that I think he's claimed in the past he was originally, the original idea for the Undertaker gimmick, it was going to be him. Ha ha, ha. But I don't, I don't know if. that necessarily holds up. But there we go.
Starting point is 03:31:05 You know what? There you go. I like the idea that enhancement guys are getting figures. They have Barry Harwood's figures that KWK also did last year. I like that. I like to fill out the roster with various people. When does Vernon Deaton get a figure? Oh, I don't know if that's going to be happening anytime soon.
Starting point is 03:31:22 What about Radford Tyndall? From Hastel Toys, they're grapplers. Cecil Hage. They're grapplers and gimmicks line. Jim, I have here. Kimchi in his kimchi outfit with his almost wrestling two mask and his kimchi hat. And it also comes with Kamala's shield and a Kamala face mask to put on your Hasbro Kamala figure. But what are your thoughts on Kimchi and do you prefer kimchi or Friday?
Starting point is 03:31:56 Well, here's that. And Kim Chi was also with Steve Lombardi, the Brooklyn Brawler, right? I believe so. At least at some points in time. See, that was the thing about the Kamala gimmick that you couldn't just send him out there on his own. And they figured that out in Memphis when they first came up with it. And I don't know if we've ever mentioned it
Starting point is 03:32:18 or if anybody was watching Memphis wrestling at the time, you'd know. But when Kamala was first introduced with the music video or the video with the jungle drums to the background of him and Jared. Jerry Jarrett's backyard with the Michael St. John voiceover, Kamala, bigger than all the beasts in the jungle or whatever the fuck. When he came to the ring, the way he was introduced, J.J. Dillon was his manager. Because that's when Lawler was going down, making shots in Florida for Eddie Graham.
Starting point is 03:32:53 Jerry Jarrett and Eddie Graham had known each other and had a good relationship. It was a way to get Lawler some more exposure. That's when he was still, Jared was still, trying to work something out for the NWA title. And also they brought guys up from Florida. That Steve Kern came from Florida. And ended up having the best success of his career. So, but JJ was the Florida manager,
Starting point is 03:33:19 the top heel manager, he would send tapes in doing Kamala's interviews, and he would make occasional shows. But for every single night in the territory, Kamala needed somebody to go out to the ring with him to take the giant wooden witch doctor mask and the spear and, you know, just be there as this manager stooge, right? So it became Buddy Wayne in a beekeeper outfit. And again, kids, not the Washington Buddy Wayne, but the Memphis Buddy Wayne, Dwayne Peel. And because they didn't want anybody know it was Buddy Wayne because it'd kill the whole thing that they're not.
Starting point is 03:34:01 from the Memphis wrestling area. This is J.J. Dillon's guy sent in from Florida, he's Beast, whatever. They had buddy wear the camouflage fatigues, a safari hat, and the goddamn beekeeper mask outfit. So that's where the beekeeper kind of thing came from. And it was a rib on Buddy Wayne, poor thing, because they brought Kamala in.
Starting point is 03:34:29 I'm going to say it was July of 82. It was the middle of summer and buddy had to go in these non-air-conditioned spot shows of this fucking beekeeper outfit on. It almost killed it. So then when Kamala went to Mid-South, then that became Friday. And Friday was kind of morphed from the beekeeper outfit
Starting point is 03:34:53 to like a safari outfit with safari shorts and big socks and the, You remember what I'm, I don't know what a safari outfit is actually called. Can you help me with this? That's what I would consider it, a safari outfit, dressed like the, you know, not the crock hunter, but a, like you're going on a safari wearing a mistrust of too much. Well, you know what it says is Frank Ducek, the crack hunter. But, uh, I'm just kidding. Frank was a wonderful fella.
Starting point is 03:35:22 But anyway, so that was the origination of Friday. and that Friday worked Louisiana and Dallas and then you know when Kamala went to the WWF they needed you know and and I guess they didn't want Friday because when you think about it Friday was actually the savage that was the attendant of Robinson Crusoe who was the white guy so they had really fucked the whole thing up anyway so that's where we got Kim Chi which is a noted handler of Ugandan savages and a wonderful addition to a Hasbro collection to fill out the collection. Kamala, of course, was in the original Hasbro figure,
Starting point is 03:36:02 so the idea now that Kamala can have his faithful man servant or whatever, was he in charge of Kamala? He didn't work for Kamala. He kind of, no, he was the attendant, the attendant for Kamala. Who does he work for? The manager? Well, in Memphis, in Memphis he worked for goddamn J.J. Dillon, so I assume Akbar in Louisiana was the manager.
Starting point is 03:36:27 I guess Harvey Whippleman would have been the boss of Kim Chie now. Harvey Whippelman was a... Harvey Whippelman threw his weight around quite a bit. It was easy to throw that little weight around. Well, there it is from once again, Hastel Toys. This one looks really cool. Jim want to make mention of this one from Russell Feds by Toy Notion, once again in the Hasbro style, three separate Randy Savages,
Starting point is 03:36:49 WrestleMania 3, WrestleMania 4, and WrestleMania 5 Randy Savage's, each one comes with the robe that he wore. So some soft goods, and I have to say, these are gorgeous figures.
Starting point is 03:37:05 They did a great job with these. Did they get to the spirit of Olivia Walker, two's wife, to do the robes, the miniature robes? Did she do Randy Savage's robes? No, she's the only one I can call the name of that actually did robes, so I was just being a smart ass. And they also have interchangeable hands,
Starting point is 03:37:23 so you could do various Randy Savage points. You could point this way or point that way, or point with two fingers, or just make a fist. What about the middle finger? That would have been probably the most indicative of Randy Savage comes complete with interchangeable middle finger. Now, this one's pointing to where he's telling Elizabeth to go, I guess, is the way to look at it.
Starting point is 03:37:43 Oh, straight down then, apparently. I have to say these are, like I said before, just gorgeous. What a great job they did on these. RussellFeds Toynotion.com. Check that out. And you know, that's the thing. A lot of people said Randy Savage was two-faced. But this proves he was three-faced.
Starting point is 03:38:01 But actually, he denied those rumors because he said, hey, if I was two-faced, I wouldn't be wearing the one I have on now. And Jim, we have a couple more here before we wrap things up. From Epic Toys, who have always done a great job, two new figures. One, again in the Hasbrook. style, Jushin Thunder Liger. What are your thoughts on
Starting point is 03:38:24 Jusian Liger who, if you were following Japanese wrestling, you knew who he was. Originally in America, everyone was calling him Jusian Riger, if you remember. Even in the observer, he was Jusian Riger. I remember that.
Starting point is 03:38:36 I remember that. Dave used to write it as R-I-G-E-R-Juschen Riger. But then in 92, he would arrive in W-C-W and have a few matches of Brian Pilman that of all the Japanese guys that came over and got on WCW TV, not counting the great Muda, because he was kind of a legacy from before, from 89,
Starting point is 03:38:58 Liger was the one as a WCW fan I wanted to see more of, and you didn't see too much of them in the States. Well, and that's the thing. Muda actually came here and worked for that year, or however long it was that he was here, whereas Liger would come over and make the big shows for WCW because of the working arrangement with the promotion in Japan, but he wouldn't be here all the time.
Starting point is 03:39:21 And but at the same time, didn't Kichi Yamada before he put the mask on, did he not come to Florida late in the 80s, maybe before or somewhere in the United States for a little while, as many of the young Japanese rookies did, Oneida, Fucci, those guys just before they were anybody. You're talking about Liger? I'm trying to remember.
Starting point is 03:39:43 Yes, Kichi Yamada. But we're talking about mooda before, too. That's why I just wanted to make sure. Calgary. Calgary is where he was. Yeah, so he not only had the gimmick, which was cool and kind of like an updated tiger mask flavor to the thing in Japan, but he also had experience working North American style, and he also could do a bunch of shit. And he and Pilman were tremendous together.
Starting point is 03:40:10 So, you know, he was a guy that just... Again, the outfit was different. His style was different. He had experience. He hadn't just been dropped out of a fucking helicopter. So you could get a guy over like that, which he got over to me better than most of the luchadors they brought into WCW later on,
Starting point is 03:40:32 because with them they brought in half a dozen or more of them at the same time, and it just blurred. Well, again, they put it out here in the Hasbro form, two figures, one in the classic. Liger red and white look and another one in his black outfit, Epic Toys. And finally, from Epic Toys, King Hakku. This comes with a crown and a really well-done robe that looks just like the robe he wore that I remember when he was the king. And I guess this would be a 1989 Hakku, because if you take off the robe, it would just be regular haiku. What are your thoughts on
Starting point is 03:41:14 Haku being the king following Harley race. Well, and he won the king of the ring. No, he didn't. Didn't he? I thought he won the king of the ring. That's how he got to be the king. No, he became the king. Harley Race got injured. Haku was the king, and then he beat Harley Race
Starting point is 03:41:30 at Royal Rumble, yeah, 1989, Royal Rumble. That's okay. Well, because of the... And Hennon was involved with both of them at the time. That's right. Okay. I mean, they did something, I guess, because Harley got hurt, but it seemed visually jarring to me to see the Haku, the beast, the Samoan savage type of, you know, precursor to the bloodline dressed up in all the fur and the satin and the pomp and circumstance and everything. But that was, Vince was starting to really blossom into, let's gimmick everything up as far as we can.
Starting point is 03:42:14 then also nobody was going to tell Haku he looked bad in the crown and Haku of course would lose the crown to Hacksaw Jim Duggan who became King Hacksaw Jim Duggan and then he lost it to the macho man who became the macho king
Starting point is 03:42:30 and that was the last king until Jerry Lawler showed up I believe well that and the whole they had been sued when they made Harley the king Lawler sued him in Tennessee because it was his well-known trademark and won they couldn't call Harley Race King in Tennessee.
Starting point is 03:42:46 But then they kept doing just once been started, he said, well, I'll do something else with it. Maybe I'm remembering long, but didn't they like literally take out ads in the newspaper that would say, I don't remember, Houtito Santana versus the king? Yes. Trying to draw in Nashville and Memphis, try to bozo people into thinking it was Lawler. And he won, but then, what was it, six years later, they end up getting the guy that sued them because they wanted to have their own king,
Starting point is 03:43:17 they got the real one. Well, Jim, once again, King Haku from Epic Toys, a great job. They did on this. They always do a good job. Finally, from Latuni, in the style of the classic Tonka wrestling buddies, these are the Super Slammers, and this is Demolition Axe. So if you remember wrestling buddies, the dolls that you could wrestle with as a kid,
Starting point is 03:43:49 he's brought back the line. He actually has the original, does it say what she was? The original artist, Stephanie Eskander, the original artist of the Tonka Wrestling Buddies. And these are his version, the Super Slammers, starting with Demolition Axe. Well, you know, and that's another thing. When I was a kid and a small young wrestling fan, we didn't have a little. this type of cool toys and things and the buddies we could wrestle with. There was this one guy used to have to pay him 75 cents.
Starting point is 03:44:20 He'd come around one afternoon every week and you could wrestle with him for a little while. But it wasn't as much fun. But nevertheless, Axe, which one was Axe? Was Axe Darsoe or Bele Eadie? Bill Eadie. Someone sent us an email the other day. I'm not going to give the person's name, but they said,
Starting point is 03:44:39 I have a question for the drive-through. Can you talk about someone who I think is one of the most underappreciated wrestlers of all time, Bill E.D. And they spelled it E-A-D-Y. I was like, yeah, he really is underappreciated. This email you got his name wrong. Can't even spell his name right. 30 years in the business and it's Bozo Brazier. But anyway, but yes, Bill Eadie, the second act of his career there, actually the third act.
Starting point is 03:45:06 He was a Mongol. He was a superstar. and then he was a demolitioner. And probably the biggest money-making spot that he had. I like Bill. He's a nice guy. And a really good job from Latuni on this. My kids love it.
Starting point is 03:45:19 They ran away with it, so we'll see how long it lasts. But really, really cool job here. And I know it's the beginning of a new line from Latuni, the Super Slammers. One final note here, we've had several people get in touch. We've heard from a bunch of people. We'll have something in the next few weeks about the Matt Cardona figures and the issues that people have had with them and the customer service and the conduct of the owners. Blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 03:45:45 There's a bunch there. And we'll have a follow-up on that very, very soon. But Jim, with that, yes. The drive-thru is closed. Oh. All right, just hitting things. Sorry, Jace. I'm just, it's, uh, there's been a lot of time travel, ladies and gentlemen.
