This is the Jocko underground podcast number seven with Echo Charles and me Jocko Willink.
Good evening, Echo.
Good evening.
All right.
So recent conversation that we had, recent conversation that we had, and I just wanted to address it because I think there's some lessons learned.
So I forget what triggered the conversation, but I ended up asking you if I had ever crossed the line in.
my harassment of you.
Now, there's actually some background behind this.
This is an off-air conversation, by the way.
We were just talking, and I forget what brought it up.
But Bozac, John Bozac, when we were younger and we were kids, you know, I mean, I was probably like 13, 14 years old.
And he's a couple years older than me.
So whatever, well, he was, 15 or 16.
And, you know, I mean, I kind of go hard in the paint, right?
And so I'll never forget it.
And it actually left an impact on me.
Like I said something to him, some insult, some harassment to him.
And he said in a playful but slightly meaningful way, right?
We call that cracking but facken.
Yes.
He goes, you always go too far.
And I remembered that.
It was kind of a good life lesson even at a young age to think, okay, I have a tendency.
there's a possibility that I'm going to go too far.
So you and I was probably harassing you the other day.
I was like, wait a second, have I ever crossed the line?
And you actually said yes.
And look, this is a weird thing.
Because, you know, do you have an insult or do you have harassment or do you have, you know, sort of ribbing?
Right.
That's the word for like, hey, I'm just rib.
You know, we're just getting each other a hard time.
And it's weird one time I said, I used the term harassment.
Like, oh, it's just harassing echo.
But actually harassing is a.
term that's used meaning in a super negative way.
Like I should be in trouble.
We're not talking that kind of harassment.
We're talking about gentle, fun, ribbing.
Yeah.
Which is obviously what we do with each other all the time.
I feel that my behavior was inappropriate.
That's what I feel.
But you agree.
Like I agree with you.
I agree.
I was wrong.
I feel like I was out of the box.
And I could see sometimes very rarely my, my, my,
To quote John Bozak, sometimes I go a little bit far.
Sometimes for a little bit of self-entertainment.
Like I chuckled, you know, I kind of thought it was funny.
While it was happening, I'm thinking, oh, yeah, I go thinks it's going to work.
You know, so I sacrificed an appropriate behavior for a little, for my own personal little chuckle.
Yeah.
So I think that's a bad move.
Makes sense.
Bad strategic move.
Okay, that's number one.
I started thinking about this a little bit more deeply, just so people are thinking, where are we going with us, is handling.
is handling insults and how to handle them.
So we'll get to that in a minute
because I think it's important to think about
just like anything in life.
If you have a game plan,
you can handle situations better.
If you don't have a game plan,
you get caught off guard.
Now all of a sudden you either look dumb,
feel dumb or act dumb.
None of which we want to do.
So that is a little excerpt
of what we are doing on the Jocko Underground podcast.
So if you want to continue to listen,
go to jocco underground.com and subscribe.
And we're doing this.
