Of course, it's a very big night. And I feel like last night was really special and iconic in so many different ways. and there's just some people I want to salute and congratulate and celebrate. And so we hopped on today. Hello, post-B-E-T family. First and foremost, first matter of business today. Our guest this past week on IRL Neil Long, first of all, before we get into what she had on,

I just want to say, have not watched that episode yet, please go watch it. It's so much fun. She's so gorgeous. She's so smart. we opened up a conversation about her DMs and I jokingly said my DMs don't have anything going on. My DMs, Brittany. Are you there? Big mistake. Big, big, big mistake.

I've been forwarding all my DMs to Nia. She said, welcome to the world. She did this to me. She opened up, she floodgated my DMs. I think it's really funny. So that's been an ongoing joke of her and I all week. But I love the episode. I hope you guys do to the feedbacks been great. But somehow after our episode, she must have flew back to LA, did a fitting and popped out on this brown, silky number. Look at Nia. That photo's great, but there's a video of her where she's like walking in, she walks and she flings her hair and she walks away and she gives like a little backward wave. I'm like, look at this girl. She's such made for this.

She's made for this. And look at this dress. Look at her. Come on now, Nia. So, yeah, she looked amazing on the carpet. Lots of people look great. And there's plenty of places you could check the fashion recaps. By the way, speaking of fashion on the carpet at BET Awards,

shout out to Azzie. Asie, Azzie, as if Azzie. This was her first time hosted. Like I've seen Asi on a panel. I've seen Asie on her pod or on Instagram with dope looks. And you know, I know Azis, my niece, I know it's birth. But watching her step into the role of like, correspondent and be on the carpet and talking to Young Miami and, you know, just everybody. And looking as fly as she did, I was like, yo, she is such a natural scene.

She's so in her bag. So shout out to Azzie for doing a great job at the BET Awards. Also shout out to Lauren La Rosa. I saw her. She had on a really pretty outfit and she was doing the carpet as well. And Ivy, our girl Ivy Rivera was out there hosting. The BT experience. Experience, yes.

And Jazzy, Jazzy's world. she was not only there, but she got a BET Award. I don't want to jack up the title of her award, but it was basically like a young person's award, and she got it this year. And so I love to see our people, our people in our world flourishing. So that was really cool to see everybody out there doing their thing.

And then let's get to the show, because for sure, one of the highlights of last night's BET Awards was the Lauren Hill tribute, which everybody and their mother popped out for. actually her kids even popped out for that. But to me, it's really hard to say because there were a lot of great pop-outs. I mean, Doja Cat and Nas did if I ruled the world, which a Nas pop-out always gets the people going. And he always looks good and he's just, he's just Nas.

When Nas was just gnazzing and Lauren looked really happy watching it. And we don't get to see Doja that much, especially in something in a moment like that. And everybody just loves and respects Lauren so much you could tell by the performances. Lizzo, Thames, don't let me forget anybody, Rhapsody. Dolce, Cizzer. Yes, and you could tell that they popped out. They didn't just pop out because BET was like, yo, dude, it's like, you could tell that there was love inserted into that tribute.

And on top of that, Queen Latifah popped out. Queen Latifah don't be popping out for people. Like she, you know what I mean? It's a special moment for Laa to pop out. And she popped out with Common, which immediately gives you a nod to just right, those two together in that movie. But you forget, like, you know, not only are they movie stars and these, you know, OG talents, you forget like their first rappers.

So they killed the performance. Like the actual performance was great. So yeah, I thought that was really special. Shout out to Lauren Hill. Her kids coming on were so cute too. Cute. Yeah, yeah. And they're all so talented. Something about them kids, boy. Once your kids hop in, you can't be cool no more.

She just, she was really happy to see that. So that was a super highlight last night. The fact that she only has one album too and it's still being celebrated all this time. I was thinking about the last night. I was like, yo, you just never know. Somebody got 10 albums and they're just, they're not revered in the same way as someone with one album. Now granted, she has Fuji albums and her contributions go beyond the one album, but it's still one album, man. It was so impactful that all these years later, those songs

still hit. Like every one of them songs still hit. And when she performed, because she performed at the end, I think she did everything is everything and one other one. But she. Expector. Yes. And then even that, they just still hit. Everybody was up on their feet. It was really a beautiful moment. Man, another beautiful. moment was Tiana Taylor, all the icons, Tiana Taylor got icon of the year. And Janet Jackson gave it to her, which was a surprise. It was really a surprise too because Tiana had no, Tiana was a mess. She was trying to gather herself together like she couldn't pull herself together. Look at that baby. Look at Tiana. Still so pretty when she cries.

I was really crying. I was trying to think who would make me, when I was watching this, I was like, wow, she really loves Janet. She really, this is so meaningful to her. Even the way she was like standing on the stage and watching Janet talk, you could just tell. And I just, I was trying to think who could honor me or be giving me an award or who could be in front of me giving me love and I would feel that. I was trying to think who that would be. Mary? Well, Mary's my friend. That's for a different reason. It's not because I worship Mary. I mean, I do, but I love that's because my friend, but I'm saying she She like worships Janet. Like, who's the person that if they spoke on your accomplishments and they called you great,

would make you weep like an infant? I guess if Oprah Winfrey. That's what I was going to say for you. For me, it would have to maybe Oprah. It would depends what she said. It would depend how much love would be. If it was like she was reading it like a newscaster, I think I could put myself together. But if she was like, Angie, led me to, I might fall apart.

I might be man down. I might be manned down. I might be. I don't know, but she just, I don't know, she had a really extraordinary moment. It was fun to watch Tiana in that state. But eventually she pulled it together. And eventually she said, you know,

she felt like she deserved this award in a way. She said she expected, you know, she's grateful for it, but she's been working her whole life and she has. Hollywood thinks she's new, but in that BET Awards, audience. We all, everybody knows, she ain't new. She's been birth building this career. And it hasn't been easy.

But she really breaks down for us like the mountains that she had to climb, not just like career-wise, but emotionally career-wise. Like the hits that she took and then so many times she was told, know and she talked to God about it like when but she just wanted it so bad she wanted it so bad

and it's really a beautiful episode she's gotten a couple awards this um season and she's actually pretty good at the speech giving thing she always number one the one thing i love about tiana she's going thank god and she's going to thank him a lot every she does not she does not play about giving the lord's the lord his flowers She's going to thank Jesus all throughout the thing. That's one of the things I love about her too. But she's my favorite thing though that she said in the speech and we could play that clip, Josh.

This is my favorite line from her because it just shows her humility as a person. Because you know, she's like, this business could get wicked, but she says this. Because I believe greatness isn't measured by how many people stand beneath you. It's measured by how many people stand beside you because you're willing to reach back. Oh, Tiana, we love her down.

We love her down. That girl can give me speech, sure. And you could just tell she meant it. Like it's one thing. Her mom was there. You know, her kids weren't there. She shouted them out in the thing. But she's, it was a whole moment for her.

Janet Jackson giving her the award. It's just a full circle. All of it is full circle. And she's living really. And she's living really in such a great moment right now, her career and her life and that type of joy. You can't fake that. You know what I'm saying?

That wasn't the only award she got that night too. No, she got like seven of them, right? She got like the Fashion Vanguard Award. She got, I think she got the director, the video director. Yep. And best actress. Her Jew, Tiana Taylor. It's funny, you know, we call her Tiana. Janet Jackson last night kept saying,

Tiana. What do you say? I've been calling her Tiana. I've been calling her Tiana her whole life. So yeah, Tiana. I probably met her she was like 15, 16. I've been calling her that for that long. So if I've been saying it wrong, that's terrible.

I've been calling her that since Sweet 16. We call her T too, like. Yeah. Anyway, that was a beautiful moment. Congratulations to Tiana Taylor. Yes, she won for video director too. There it is. I see it right now.

Best New Artist was Olivia Dean. Album of the year was the Clips. Here's a funny thing. The camera, so Waleigh was in that category, right? And the camera kind of was on Waleh while the clips were, and I was like, don't be messy. Don't be messy cameraman at the BET Awards. And that happened a couple of times. It was another moment when Kaylani won, and you can see Mariah,

the scientist, kind of reacting. that the problem is you don't know if they're reacting to something somebody said next to them, if there's a delay, but if you're in the other category and your face even looks remotely like, if you don't look like this, if you look like anything else, you're going to look like a hater. You know what I'm saying? It's like a setup. So guys, if you're ever nominated for an award and somebody else wins, just hold this the whole time. Don't ask your friend of question.

Don't shake it because you do this. If something's in your ear you have a scratch, don't do that. Because if they're going to you, while she's giving her speech and you're like this, looks like a hater. You know what I'm saying? You got to be very careful. There was a couple of funny moments like that at the BET Awards. I said, there's always, and maybe that's just me.

That's just like the asshole and me. No, no, no. That's not just you. That cameraman was shady boots because when Drewski was roasting a lot of people throughout the night. But one of the parts was he was doing the could have been records. his like skit that he does and he took it to the BET stage. And the first person that comes on was a gentleman who was rapping and he seemed to have a enhanced.

Yes. And they were like, they were like, I've never heard of a, of a, of a gangster rapper with a BBL. And the camera goes to Lotto and the camera is. I saw that too. And goes back and I was like. She was laughing. Well, why he went to her cameraman? Right.

Let me look at my phone because while I was watching last night, I was actually like, oh, I think we're doing a recap tomorrow. I want to mention this. Speaking of the could have been record skit though, I did love Duran redoing his Grammys run. Can we say that he's going to be on this week? Are we allowed to say that? Okay, Duran's going to be our guest this week on the IRL,

and he is so much fun. I laughed so much. You know what's so funny? I laughed in this episode that's getting ready to drop so much, But also, I don't know, he gave me something else too. It was real heart in it. And I just like him. I liked him so much.

We had a great time. And I think you guys are going to like that episode. Anyway, so that's coming up. But yes, Duran was there. And he did the DeAngelo tribute. He did. That what you were going to say? I just cut you off.

Sorry. No, I wanted to say that he reenacted his moment when he got his Grammy, which was him running to go receiving the award. So I love that he. gave he also did his another version for be et um running down to go to go do that because it was just such a depiction of the type of like fun and bright spirit that he is you know what else i have to be our guess who else i have to yeah this week and it drops wednesday uh wednesday evening

uh sylvia rhone so sylvia rhone was the other icon and she looked incredible she looks incredible she's 74 i heard her say she's been in the music business and she's business since she's for 55 years. I just looked up her title. They say she's the first black woman to ever lead a major label and many other accolades. They were running down all of the artists that she supported and the times that she supported. Fun fact, Sylvia Rohn also signed Angie Martinez to her first record deal. You didn't know that? You never knew that? No. No, we I did know that. Give him a deal at Elektra.

She was a badass. Even then, I don't know how many years ago that was. She was already like an elite level, you know, executive running a high level record label back then. So the fact that she's been doing this for that long and then hearing like Missy Elliott, and Buster Rhymes talk about her. And if you think about it too, that time, that whole Elektra time when they were spending millions of dollars on videos,

you know, that's a Sylvia Roan call. That's somebody who says, okay, let's do it. Let's invest this crazy rapper, Buster Rhymes, and spend all this money on this video, and Missy Elliott. And, you know, she was making, like, courageous decisions back then. And there's a laundry list of artists whose careers she has her hands on.

So she deserved that. I thought it was sweet. She seemed a little nervous to me last night, but in a good way, like, I feel like the moment really meant something to her. Her daughter was there in the audience. And we don't talk about Sylvia enough. You know, for all the barriers and the doors she's opened.

And it was nice to see her honored in that way last night. So congratulations to Sylvia Rohn. That was another. There was like multiple icon awards. I guess one was icon of the year. And then the Lauren one, Lauren Hill and Sylvia Rowan. So those were great moments last night. Shout out to the women.

It was super loaded. It's the year of the girl. The year of the girl. I saw that's why I loved seeing all our girls out there, Ivy, Azzie, you know, Lauren La Rosa, Jazzy. Even during the Lauren Hill tribute, everybody was singing and the camera went to Ivy. And I was like, look at Ivy! She was like singing on camera and you know the shot.

You know the shots when you're in the audience and you're performing and you don't even know. But she looked like she was having a great time. So that was always fun to say. Now that I know that she's signed due, she's always good in my book. And I had no idea that she signed the earliest rendition of the Destiny Shop. When Kelly Rowland was up there to present to Sylvia, I was like, what's Kelly doing up here? And when she said that she was responsible for that, I was like, wow, Sylvia's rap sheet is absolutely nuts. No, it's crazy. No, it's outrageous actually. She, yeah, and for 55 years. Could you imagine all the different ways that the music business has changed and a black woman running these companies and you don't really hear her name.

Running a label is hard. Running a label by nature, people are going to want to be angry at you. Artists, you know, because, you know, because, you know, because. artists are always going to feel like they're not supported enough or they're not getting enough money or they you know the artist the artist label relationship is always challenging it always for forever for all time so the fact that this woman has been running labels for that long and we don't hear that much of that type of talk surrounding her really says a lot didn't see what I'm saying like anybody in a high level position like that the name gets tossed around. The artists get angry. They notoriously always have problems with their label. And I'm not saying she hasn't over the years, but I'm just saying she's done a lot of good by a lot of people. And it shows.

And it was nice to see her, you know, honored that way yesterday. It was pretty great. And then I was going down memory later. Remember being sitting in her office. I have just signed the label my first deal. So she gave me my first big check. First check that I, and I went and bought a car like a dumbass. My first- Is that a BMW?

It was a BMW. It was a BMW. It was a BMW. It was my first, yeah, it was my first, no lies. It was the Benz, it was brand new. I was driving the used BMW for my radio money. Like I was doing, on the radio, I was doing okay. I was, you know, I got my little car, was hosting a lot of stuff. And I bought a used three, 325 BMW and that was like my first nice car. But then when I did the deal, I got my first big check and then I went and I got a new brand new car, new bends, which is so stupid like never made a big check in my whole life. And when I say big, it's not like big you're good for life.

Like big, like you're good for right now. It can set you up, you know, like that type of money. And what did I do? I went and bought a stupid car. But I owe it, I owe that to Sylvia Rohn. So if that's just my one little. story, could you imagine how many people's lives that she's impacted throughout her career? So I just pulled up a list of Sylvia Rohn artists that she's either signed or developed.

You ready? First of all, Sylvia Rhone became the first black woman to lead a major record label, and later the first black woman to serve as both chair and CEO of her major label. And here's her list. It's so weird, Angie Martinez is not on here. I don't know why they forgot about me. But Missy Elliott, Buster Rhymes, Tracy Chapman, N. Vogue, Brandy, MC Light, DOS Effects, Acon, India Ari, Erica Badu, Little Wayne, Travis Scott, Future, 21 Savage, DJ Calid, French, French, French. Shout out to French, who was also at the awards last night.

That was so nice to see. Megan Traynor, Givion, Tyler, Metallica, A.C. DC and it goes on and on and on and on over a 55 year run. I think that's what she said, 55 years. I mean, this is a woman who deserves an award. It's pretty great. Congratulations, Sylvia Rome for sure. And that's just the artist.

When you think about, as I remember Clark Kent, shout out to the rest of peace with my brother, DJ Clark Kent. Clark had told me I guess he was an A&R for her at one point. And he adored her. And I'm sure there's a lot of music execs also that have stories for days about the impact and the influence and the checks. And just that good Sylvia Rhone work.

So shout out to her and congratulations again. Love that moment. We didn't talk about Cardi at all, by the way. Cardi B was out there with a little red wig, jumping around looking happy. My favorite part of that performance is right at the end. I was just watching it. At the end, she just looked so happy.

You know, because Cardi sometimes could get in her own head and she gets nervous and she notoriously like took forever to put her album out because she was worried about her what was going to be received. And she just, she's honest about that. She gets nervous. So I think the way she was received in that room and the energy in there, I think she was so happy

that her performance went well. She just looked happy and I love to see that. So shout out to Cardi. But she did fly her awards in for the occasion. Are we going to show, do we have a clip of that? To quote the iconic Cardi B, love and hip hop mean, if you're gonna have beef with me, you're gonna have beef with me forever. She brought in during her performance of pretty and petty,

and she indeed was petty, she brought out all of her BET Awards to show, do she even have a BET Award? In reference to, you know who, Bia. So Cardi is always going to stay tent toes down on whatever she puts out there. And this is why we love her because she's just her at any point. She's a petty queen. Yes, yes, she is just her. And she always doesn't with like, and it's fun and like, I don't know, over the top and outrageous.

And yeah. Pretty good, pretty good, Cardi. I love what a BT award represent. to a lot of times in many like artists or talents career, especially for black people, BET is often the first major award show that acknowledges a talent. And I love the amount and the caliber of people that show up to the BET Awards because it just shows the appreciation for,

you know, it's the only black entertainment, it's the biggest black entertainment network. It's funny you say that because I was thinking about that with Tiana. It's like Tiana had it a phenomenal year, right? And she's at the Globes and the Oscars and she's carpets and Hollywood, everything. And she became this like Hollywood star and angel like next level Hollywood. It was just it girl. But you know, she comes home to BET and they give her an icon award.

You know, it's different. It's like you're not new to us. Like I don't know, you just felt that. You felt it in Tiana's speech when she said, you know, I, I, I, I, I, I, you just felt it in Tiana's speech when she said, you know, I, I, At first I was like, do I deserve icon of the year? But then she was like, I've been working all the 20 years or however long. And she did. She does.

She had a phenomenal year that everybody's been rooting for her all along. We always know she's dope. We knew she was dope in fade. We knew she was dope when she was signed to Farrell. We knew she was dope when she was doing videos and you know what I'm saying? And just to watch the evolution and watch her now, it was nice to see that. But that is like to your point. BET was like, no, you're an icon to us.

You know what I'm saying? Like, you're not new to us. Yes. The icon of the year. So I thought that was dope. But yeah, to your point, there is like a home company. Did you see our forever black president, Obama sending a special message? I was like, of course, this is the platform that he would send in a message, you know, to the audience of BT.

Like, yes. Like, he's so incredibly beloved. Oh, I miss him. Oh, I miss him so much. And also they made Drewski the host this year. And Druski's point was he was the youngest host to Beatt Awards. Kiki was like, it should have been her this year.

I thought that was a really funny moment at the awards, where Druski was walking around with the bike and she was like, this should have been me, BT should have made me the host. And then she went on to introduce Cardi B. But she has so much personality that anybody that she stands next to, she's just bright. Kiki's personality is just going to take over the screen with whoever she's standing next to.

So that was a funny moment. But I thought Druski handled it well, too. He just laughed and stepped to the back while she did the announce. I think this thing that's so dope about Druski, he's always in on the joke, even if he's the butt of the joke. He's like in on the joke. And I thought he did a great job last thing

as the youngest host of the BET Awards. I'm sure he wouldn't say that if he didn't check. You don't go so hard like that if you didn't double check for that to be true. He did great. I thought he did great. I like him so much. I'm so happy for him.

I think he had a nice moment. You know, sometimes people, you don't, it'd be the little moments where you see somebody's humanity or, I don't know, like when he brought out Martin Lawrence, and the crowd was like, cool, Martin Lawrence, yay. And he was like, hold on. Like, y'all, this is Marty Maher. Like, this, get up.

in the crowd. He made the crowd stand up and rightfully so. Like, Martin has served. You know, Martin has delivered. He's an icon. He's, he was in our homes on the television for, I don't know, you know, how long, but in a very impactful way. And I don't know, it was just nice to see him kind of, and especially as a comedian for him to honor Martin in that way and demand that he'd be honored by the audience in that way. I thought it was a, I don't know, just, it was a nice moment that showed how he carries his OGs in a way you know what I'm saying I I noticed little things like that I thought that was a dope moment um and then I don't know there was so many I thought he did a great job overall so congratulations and shout out to druski I for sure believe that somebody

in the BET offices was watching that moment with Kiki and I wouldn't be surprised if we had a Kiki host co-hosting the BET Awards next year or Kiki and Druski together would actually be if they could afford it. Fun to watch also. So all of that happened last night. And there's a ton more, but we enjoyed it. Shout out to the whole team of BET. Another job, well done.

Great performances. Lots of people popped out. And yeah, good job, guys. And like I mentioned, this week on IRL, you know, the girl in the brown dress at the BET Awards, Neil Long. That episode is still up. If you haven't watched it, it's great.

It's knee-along. She's smart and funny and fun. And she was putting me on to the neck cream and showing us how to use it. There's a whole segment about that. And then coming up, this episode that's about to drop is Durand, who's fresh off BET as well. So I think you like that episode too. It's really funny and sweet. So yeah, that's it.

Am I forgetting anything, Britt? Nope, you're good. And most of the guests and the pre-et, most of the guests and the that you saw on BT.
