Joe and Jada - Maury Povich tells WILDEST daytime TV stories & says he wants to mediate Cardi B vs. Nicki Minaj beef

Episode Date: May 26, 2026

Fat Joe and Jadakiss are joined by Maury Povich, the legendary daytime TV host and creator of one of the most iconic formats in television history. Maury breaks down how the on-air paternity tests ori...ginated, when Shaquille O’Neal told him his crew used to bet on every segment, why he wants to host a mediation between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj on live TV, and reveals the wildest episode he ever did: twins with two different fathers. Plus, Joe rants about his wife watching Lifetime killing-your-husband content on a loop, Jadakiss announces The LOX’s documentary is headed to the Tribeca Film Festival, and some fiery NBA debates break out surrounding Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards. Maury also talks about his married to storied journalist Connie Chung, shares some memories of the late Jerry Springer, breaks down his connection to Michael Jordan, and tells Joe and Jada about his new podcast 'On Par with Maury Povich,’ where he’s already interviewed hip hop stars like Dave East and Maino. Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys, it's us The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast?
Starting point is 00:00:09 Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen.
Starting point is 00:00:27 We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:48 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Podcasts. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, and on my new podcast, How Hard Can It Be? I call on my Gen X squad from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS.
Starting point is 00:01:09 Unfiltered conversations from night sweats to fupas to scheduling sex. Wait, what sex? Is it just me or does every woman my age want to look at Pinterest instead of having sex sometimes? They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
Starting point is 00:01:36 And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was crying. You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow.
Starting point is 00:01:51 Then after that game seven, Marquis come in to you, he's like, you know I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Like she had twins from two fucking guys. I ran out a flag. You got flags over there, Maury.
Starting point is 00:02:13 You got to throw it, Maura. Welcome to the show, Maury. Yeah, yeah, what up, y'all? This is Joe Crack to Dawn. You know who it is, your boy, Jader? It's the Joe and Jay to show. Every show legendary. Every show iconic.
Starting point is 00:02:48 Today's key word is iconic. Wow. Without even further to do, when you think of today's guess, let me go to the envelope. Let me pull up the time. It's an envelope? No. Spex down.
Starting point is 00:03:05 John Ford. You think of today's guess. Wow. Nah, that's right. He deserved that. 31 years on the air. Ha ha. You know, you know,
Starting point is 00:03:18 when you think of today's guest. When you think of today's guests, the envelope. You know what you mean? Let's get right down the business. No, no, I am not. Let's get down the business. Check it out.
Starting point is 00:03:30 When you think of today's guests, you think DNA tests on national television. You think live detects changing lives in front of millions. You think that envelope A slow walk across the stage You think paternity revealed in primetime You think daytime TV that hit different in the hood You think 90s chaos
Starting point is 00:03:59 Unfiltered, uncut, no apologies You think the wildest era of television Ever produced You think of a man married the one of the most powerful one in the news history. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's our girl. You think 30 plus...
Starting point is 00:04:15 You think 30 plus years... Oh, boy, that boy, that boy. You hit one out the block. All right. You think 30 plus years are staying relevant when everybody else faded. You think legendary,
Starting point is 00:04:31 institution, undeniable. And most importantly, you think you were not the father. They are not for more people. I have never, Jada ever had an intro like that. Oh, I appreciate. Top five.
Starting point is 00:04:50 That ain't a regular guy giving you that. That's Jada Kiss. Top five, dead or alive. I mean, he ain't a regular. Nah, you're more. First of all, Maury, you're not even real. You don't even real. You know, you.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Sitting here. He starts off with a flat. I ain't going to tell one of the most realists. He's not even... I just feel like we have a superhero in the... Like, he's not... He's a fucking Smithstonian instance. A Smithstonian.
Starting point is 00:05:21 Not the Smith... A Smithstonian, whatever that is. Well, you look like you ain't smoked the highest grade this morning. You're the sharp today. You didn't say that right now. I told him you was high. Say he's coming high. He's coming in very sober.
Starting point is 00:05:34 He came sober. He can't be high and read that intro. Yeah. You're very smart, boy. Rappers can't read. Exactly. You ever read off with rappers? It'd be allowed to sad for my own man.
Starting point is 00:05:49 Lab just can't read like a track. You know, no. First of all, I'm just honored to be sitting in the same seat that Cardi B was sitting in. Oh! Oh! First of all, You don't understand when I saw that episode. I've been trying, I'm ready to come out of retirement.
Starting point is 00:06:13 I've been trying to get Cardi B and Nikki Minaj to settle their dust on my show for years. I mean years. And I've always said to both of them, I'll come out of retirement, I'll have a primetime special, and we'll all worry about the results. Man, that's a great idea, Laurie.
Starting point is 00:06:34 That's incredibly incredible if you can pull that one. But the fact that you had Cardi B here. Cardi B, our girl, man, she's from the Bronx. I'm just so proud of Cardi B. No, wait a minute. You're from Yonkers. No doubt. Say it again.
Starting point is 00:06:50 You're from Yonkers. Which, by the way, is right next to the Bronx. It's a subsidiary. Subsidiary. It's not even equal. It's not an it. It's a subsidiary of the Bronx. It's a joint venture.
Starting point is 00:07:07 The Bronx is a joint venture Harlem Everybody from the Bronx think they from all I am always on when great
Starting point is 00:07:14 hip hop artists great rappers know who the fuck I am oh we love you make some noise for that let me ask you up your James could you do
Starting point is 00:07:26 how many people put you all the father in the song or Mori Bovich you have a in hip hop now we got a fake smart guy
Starting point is 00:07:36 behind the computer over there no but it's True. Over the years. What? Listen, Maher,
Starting point is 00:07:42 first of all, the bad news about you, right, is I remember every time I would skip school, not you,
Starting point is 00:07:52 not you, I would see, Regis Philbin. Oh, I was around my time. Sure. Luke and Laura, General Hospital.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Oh, General Hospital. I'm on skipping school, I'm watching Regis, right? How many people skipped school that was watching to borrow you? You wouldn't believe how many people.
Starting point is 00:08:12 You schooled the whole America. Tried to fake being sick to stay home from school. And when people used to say that, I said, so how did you convince your mom to let you stay home when you weren't really sick? And they said, well, we took a thermometer and held it up to the light bulb to make sure that temperature was up. You like that one. Jay and you like that.
Starting point is 00:08:40 Yeah, Jay Wans, don't try that at home, bro. Don't try that at home. His son is here. The twins might try that trick. Man, let me tell you something, Mori. You raised the whole generation of people, man, and entertained us. And I don't know if you know,
Starting point is 00:08:59 but just show reached out to me one time. I said, yo, we want to have Fat Joe as a guest. I said, fuck. No, I'm not going on there, and they're going to be like, this is Janice. You met her at All-Star Game, 2022. She says that you are the father. I don't know. Fuck, you shit, me.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Get the fuck out of here. Wait a second. Were you always afraid of that, that some girl was going to say something to do? No, no, no, no. Come on, Joe. Your show was based on, you know, my, it was, are you the father? not. So when Mori Povis comes, it's almost like the eye on rest. I'll say, yo, that's it. I'm done.
Starting point is 00:09:45 He got some shit. In other words, in other words, I was in Jimmy's Bross Cafe with this guy in 97. Just the call got you upset. This shit is crazy. I got, and I don't want to give no energy to this, but, you know, I got one crazy girl, and she hits me up all the time talking about you're my father. but there's no resemblance in the universe. She'll be like, you're my father, and I'm telling you, my mother told me,
Starting point is 00:10:13 I'm looking, I'm like, nah. You know, all my kids, like, all Jada's kids, they got something that you know is Jada's kids. So, Jada's kids look like Fadio. Jada has no problem with his kids. No, me either. Me either, but I mean, you would understand why a rapper would be terrified when they get the call.
Starting point is 00:10:35 You know, come on Mori Povich. I was like, fuck. No, no, he's got this new thing. He's bringing rappers. Nah, fuck out of here. Not a worry. I got two questions, a two-part question. One was, when you were younger, did you foresee yourself doing this?
Starting point is 00:10:53 No fucking way. Okay. Are you kidding me? I grew up 25 years, 30 years in the new television news business. And I was just going to be a straight journals. And then in the late 80s, this guy Rupert Murdoch, this crazy Australia. I just watched his documentary.
Starting point is 00:11:12 So anyway, he had this idea for this kind of crazy tabloid news show called The Current Affair. And it started in 1986 and they brought me to New York. I was working in my hometown of D.C. And that became a huge hit. And then all of a sudden, the Paramount people, the studios wanted to give me a talk show in 1990. And that's how it all started.
Starting point is 00:11:39 You already know when it's a real moment. You need a real bottle. That's why we rock with 1800 tequila. These people been making tequila for 11 generations. That's a legacy. That's the OG status. They were the first to introduce a nejo. Set the standard before most of these brands even existed.
Starting point is 00:12:00 And you can taste the difference for real. The 1800 Cristilino and Respezzan, Sado is what we've been on late. Smooth, clean, elevator. No rough edges, just a premium pore that speaks for itself. You know when something is just built right? That's what this is. Real talk.
Starting point is 00:12:21 That's just what it is. It's always around for the best nights, the wins, the celebrations. They remember that night's stories. Whether you're keeping it low-key with the crew, or you pull up to something big. 1800 fits every setting. It ain't trying too hard. It's just as that.
Starting point is 00:12:42 1800 tequila, real legacy, real smooth. That's the move. Let's give props to who was the original person who came to you and pitched the ideas. Mori, I think you could be great for a show from Paramount.
Starting point is 00:12:59 Our name was Lucy Selhaney. She was the head of the syndication division. But I must give the credit when it came to the paternity test, it was my executive producer many years later named Amy Rosenblum. She came up with the idea and what happened was
Starting point is 00:13:17 what I gave to it is when the first time we were ever doing a paternity test, I knew the story, the show producer was briefing me down right before we go on and she says the result is and I went,
Starting point is 00:13:31 I don't want to know the result. I don't want to know anything more than my guest my live audience, my audience at home, I want to be as surprised. I don't want to know anything more than they do. No way. Because I would ask questions because I knew the answer.
Starting point is 00:13:47 So I wanted to be as surprised. So the way it came out, you are the father or you're not the father. So you're sitting there just like us. I was as surprised as anybody. Fuck. That's incredible. So how many times I was like, this motherfucker fuck is the father.
Starting point is 00:14:02 Look, they got the same nose. They got the same. Nah, he's bullshit. He don't want to pay. Can I tell you about Shaquille? You want to tell you about Shaq? Yes. Shack tells me he and his buddies used to bet every single day on all the paternity segment
Starting point is 00:14:18 as to whether they were the father. I believe you. I believe you. That's great. That's great. I'm looking at Moria. I thought of some. This next question might be out of line, but I'm looking at Moria.
Starting point is 00:14:32 I said, damn, they had to invite him to an Epstein party. like Warren. You know something? This is the most amazing. No, this is the most amazing thing in the world, okay? He fits the criteria, right? Oh, man. He was like he was up in the Epstein, George.
Starting point is 00:14:49 I thought, I thought, I was, I thought, I'm walking around. I'm walking around. You're like, for sure, I'm in that. I'm walking around this town. I think I'm some kind of a big shot. Nobody ever invited me to anything. Ain't that some bullshit? I mean.
Starting point is 00:15:02 Wanted them to invite him to Epstein? Let me tell you something. I'll tell you something. I'll tell you. I was recently invited to what I think is the Epstein party. No, I swear to God. This guy's nuts, dog. What do you want to be?
Starting point is 00:15:17 You was recently, you met the algorithm. No, I met the algorithm. He was recently invited to Epstein party. You might be, you might need. I'm in LA, Beverly Hills. I'm in the Jewish deli, Nathan House. I go every morning when I'm there. Having my split P.
Starting point is 00:15:32 Right. Come over, say, Joe. Yeah. The owner of. Instagram would love to meet you. Young guy, go over there. He says he's the owner of Instagram. He's meeting with the guy who produced Marty Supreme.
Starting point is 00:15:47 And I said, holy shit. If you're the owner, you're the fucking algorithm. Like, you're the guy that controls this shit. He said, yes, I am the algorithm. He said, this guy right here. I'm the algorithm. He said, yes. He said this guy right here, he's the guy who did Marty Supplement.
Starting point is 00:16:06 He's trying to figure out how to work the algorithm more. He's having... I see shit. So I tell them that they look at me like I'm crazy. But let me tell you, I'm in Super Bowl, this past Super Bowl, San Francisco, and a good friend of my man, man, that... Yo, I love you. No, I worship him. I love him too much.
Starting point is 00:16:25 But he invites me to an event. Yeah. That shit starts 10, 9. And actually, I'm delirious because I'm on the different, uh, different, uh, time zone and all that. So I'm like, yo, let me just go show my cheekbone for 10 minutes and I'm mad at in you, right? He goes 10, 9, they say, I shit you not.
Starting point is 00:16:47 The biggest party you ever seen in your life. In 10 seconds, it turned into, they had little people, you know, little people running around, they had magicians. They had the best fucking magicians you've seen in your life. It'd be like, you got a $20 bill in your pocket. Where are we going with this? Where I'm going is. Go, Lori!
Starting point is 00:17:09 There's a lot of ladies there dancing like Moulin Rouge. I look to the right, Sophia Vergara's there. Jessica Albers there. My good friend Jaru is popping rum and in 10 seconds, it got to the most 10, 9. It felt like New Year's. And I'm looking around. All I saw was 80 old white guys video in the old. I've never been, you, you, you've been to a spot like that
Starting point is 00:17:39 where the whole fucking crowd was 80 year old white, I said, yo, this shit, that Epstein. No, I'm in there like this. I said, yo, I look, everybody's in there. It's an 80-year-old white guy filming the young girls that's dead. And I said, this did you, Epstein. This shit's going to blow up in 20 years. That Joe is in the building.
Starting point is 00:18:03 He had his carrots. man that the shit, yo, that shit was crazy. But anyway, I was, you know, I got... You know what Chappelle says about that. What he said? He said one time on stage that he got all upset that he was never invited to any of the esteem parties. He says, maybe it's because I was too ugly.
Starting point is 00:18:25 No, man. You're more... By the way, he's from D.C. Like me. Yeah, DMV. Yo, but was you doing the butt? What they had doing the butt? Whoa.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Oh. Sex tape. Oh, black. Oh, ready, boy. There's a genre of music. I don't know if you was introduced to, but it's out of D.C. It's called Gogo.
Starting point is 00:18:45 Never heard of. Wow. But I haven't been back in a while. That's like hip-hop in the Bronx. No, I've been there forever. But that's where Spike Lee got the record doing the butt. Yeah, he got those guys from D.C. to do that. But that is the shit.
Starting point is 00:19:00 Yo, Mori, what was the wildest episode that you, you said to yourself that you had no clue what the result was and you was rooting. I'll tell you, this was really something. I mean, to this day, it's just sticks in my memory. It probably happened 10 years ago. Woman comes on, accuses this guy of being the father of her twins. So as I told you, I didn't know the results. I opened up the envelope.
Starting point is 00:19:30 He's the father of one, but not the other. Whoa. What the fuck? There you go. It's a such stand. Fraternal twins, not identical twins, but fraternal twins. When they don't look alike. Yo, he's the father of one of the babies.
Starting point is 00:19:45 Not the other. What happened? These guys went, they, um. He didn't know what to do this guy. He was frozen. I mean, he was like paralyzed. And he knew he was on the hook for one. And I immediately say to the staff,
Starting point is 00:20:00 how does this happen? And they said, If a young lady is kind of active at a certain time of the month. Superactive. She was getting fucked to death. Like she had twins from two fucking guys. I ran out a flag. You got flags over there, Mori.
Starting point is 00:20:19 You got to throw it, boy. Welcome to the show, Bori. You know how they tell you, you never let them give you the results? Well, let me tell you the results of this show. They tell all my guests every time before they come. Joe's going to say some crazy shit, just throw the fucking flag at him. They give them the, with Mori, they don't say, yo, if anyone said, you know, there's two hosts.
Starting point is 00:20:48 If anyone says something you disagree with, throw the flag. No, it's always, fat Joe's going to say some dumb shit, throw the flag at him. And Jada is come. Oh, no, he's the ring leader. You know, let me tell you something, Mori Provin. I'm a gangster, okay? I'm a gangster, okay? And my reputation,
Starting point is 00:21:11 my whole life of authenticity, has been unmatched. Okay, I have lived up to every type of adversity. I do this show. They start calling me a liar because this guy's right next to me. Every time I say, he's lying.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Now they're calling me They're telling me I'm a liar in the streets where I once walked around. But by the way, most authentic. He's the truth teller. Yeah, he's the truth. They don't have one episode with me calling them a lot. No, facial expression. Can't find you.
Starting point is 00:21:47 Facial expression. Facial expression. A liar, facial expression. You know, I tell a story he's doing this. They're like, yeah, Jeter. Some of the stories make you do that. Starting point is 00:24:33 But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jones? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. We were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this.
Starting point is 00:24:56 We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:25:40 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game. Starting point is 00:26:28 Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slic Life 12 in the TikTok podcast. podcast network on TikTok. Now I want to know, how did you source the people that was going to be on the show? Right. And then once you took over the world, how was you differentiating who was going to make it? And just the craziest story, how was y'all doing? First of all, the theme of paternity was so big.
Starting point is 00:27:04 All we needed was an 800 number. You see, because you don't understand. The New York Times years ago did a big article in the Sunday magazine, and the article was they took a survey and found out 10% of all the kids in the country are living with the wrong father. Are living what? With the wrong father, wrong birth father. That's a lot.
Starting point is 00:27:33 That's a lot. No, no, no. It happens a lot. Oh, you say it happened. It happens a lot. I could personally. So in other words, when I first started, when you first started to see this thing on the show, right?
Starting point is 00:27:44 You weren't surprised that we were doing things like that. No, no, I'm surprised. Very surprised. Why? Because if you knew this thing was out. Why would you go on TV and tell somebody? I seen one girl go on there like 20 times. I know Todd is really the father.
Starting point is 00:27:59 I know. No, Buck 134 is the fuck. You kept bringing them back. I know. No, for sure, you know this time. You've been on here. Janice, you've been. on here eight times, Janice.
Starting point is 00:28:12 That one night Wayne was with me in the back. You are not the fault. I knew that bitch was like that. Yo! I mean, this was insanity. That was good TV. And everybody, and the worst part about it to me was, when she came back over and over, the audience
Starting point is 00:28:28 would boo her. And I got upset because I think she was courageous and brave for coming back on after being embarrassed. Let me tell you something, Maury. One thing your show made me realize
Starting point is 00:28:44 let's go to school. Yeah, yeah, not just that. They have some smart guys up there. Not just that. You know, one time, good friend of mine, Tom, you know, Taramatoa hasn't talked to me since I said that story. I know who Tommy Mottoa is.
Starting point is 00:29:00 He never talked to me again. No, no, I'm not telling the story again. That's how you line me up. I'm not telling Morin Povitch to start. Why not? You're telling them a story. I'm telling you. Look, I know Motola.
Starting point is 00:29:12 He was the record guy. Come on. It's a good friend of mine saved his life. He choked on a pancake. Don't say the boy. He didn't want me to say this story. Tommy hasn't called me since.
Starting point is 00:29:22 He's my friend for four years. I get a light with him. I was like, yo, Tommy, do you need the mouth, the mouth? Do you need the heimlet? You know,
Starting point is 00:29:35 Tramatoa is tough as fuck. He's, I was like, yo, I'm looking at, because you know, Rich is with me. How did he do all that over pancake? You know Rich got CTE? Rich played football for 30 years. That one fuck is like, yo, Rich. Rich, I'm looking at Rich.
Starting point is 00:29:56 And he's catching one of them CTE shits from the football. I'm like, you rich, we want to have to save this, motherfucker. What was Tommy doing? But listen, Tommy ain't. Joe. Tommy ain't fucking with me no more But listen Joe, you could do stand-up
Starting point is 00:30:14 No, no You could really do stand-up Yo, Morrie, listen to what I'm saying That's why I ain't going your show But listen Tommy Mottola sat me down At my prime At my prime
Starting point is 00:30:25 Number one songs in the country On a run of a run And he said I want to do a clothing brand With you For all of the Walmarts And I got so offended I said, this shit Gucci
Starting point is 00:30:38 That's a fucking Rolex so much. You fucking great. You see this shit out. You want me to do Walmart? He was like, and he explained to me, but I was at a very young age that I didn't understand. He said, you know, 99% of America shop at Walmart.
Starting point is 00:30:59 Sure. He said, only 1% go to Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and all that other shit. You could make a killing in Walmart with 99% of the country. Of course, I was a dumb motherfucker, and I walked away, and I said, nah, Tommy, I'm not doing that. But your show made me realize 99% of the country really doesn't know who's the father.
Starting point is 00:31:27 You let me know, because you kept bringing 31 years and bring, yo, that's the one thing you do one show. One lady, she came 10 times. They did the fuck 31 years of the shit. So how many? You know how fucking up this country is? So how about the times, all the times that you saw when, you know, we put the picture of the baby on the screen, right?
Starting point is 00:31:50 You know, always put the picture. And now I've got two black people on there. I got the woman. I got the guy. And this baby is white as can be. I mean, white as can be. And everybody's saying all in live on it is. Meanwhile, I,
Starting point is 00:32:09 Well, it ends up, you are the father. Believe it or not. That's why I never, that's when I stopped. That's when I stopped during the episode trying to figure out whether he was. You gave up, boy, you said, I gave up. I gave up. For sure, you do, you the best of over under. Family.
Starting point is 00:32:29 Family. Family. Well, maybe his grandfather was iris and some shit like that. It came out on the deep. You know, you are the family. What's that? No show. You're coming.
Starting point is 00:32:41 You are all this for him. Meaning that we come from a DNA or somebody. Exactly. You know, we come for the grandfather, great-grandmother, somebody was white. You have a kid that come out two-time and felon. Let me explain. Yeah, it's great.
Starting point is 00:33:01 My father was dark skin. I'm in that. It can happen to me, right? With my Cuban side, we got everybody dark. Listen, you ever see my brothers? I'm going to show you my brothers from my Cuban side. Cuban brothers. They make you look light skin, okay?
Starting point is 00:33:19 These niggins, the dogs are the ones. So in other words, you have brothers. Yeah, but my mother was real white like me, right? So my father's dark skin. Right. So I can understand me. But all my brothers, my stepbrothers, they dog skin. Listen, I got it in my family.
Starting point is 00:33:38 What I'm trying to say to you, We're trying to think of that. You know what happened to a basketball player. What happened? But he was not the father. Which one? You heard about that kid? Steve Nash.
Starting point is 00:33:52 Oh. Out there, it's not fucking public. It's a thing. I'm asking you, what happened with Steve Nash then? All of a sudden, Steve Nash, the basketball player. He white as hell. The white as half, the baby came out. Black baby.
Starting point is 00:34:09 That's like a couple. One of his teammates on the side. You definitely, when you were a professional level of teams, you got to check pushing and carving on the side. One of your teammates might be the father. Sticks shift records. I mean, you got to watch dudes that's injured, that's staying back for treatment.
Starting point is 00:34:25 At that point, murder is, at that point, murder is considered, right? I know. This is a family show. No. I guess it's more. You know what's the number one two podcasts in Netflix? How do I kill my husband? That's the fucking number two pot.
Starting point is 00:34:43 James, can you look up the top five Netflix? I thought you were in the top five. No, no, we're in the top five. But I'm saying they, that's top two. Who do they think about why they want to know how to kill your, ladies, why you want to know how to kill your fucking husband? My wife watches this lifetime. Oh, no, don't tell me your wife.
Starting point is 00:35:02 She watches lifetime every day. They're killing the husband. They're killing the husband. They're killing the husband. They're killing the husband. No one They're killing the hundred Okay
Starting point is 00:35:16 Yo why you ain't fucking what What's wrong Heavy shit on Lifetime He's running up Killing the husband Killing the husband Killing them But for sure this guy
Starting point is 00:35:26 Ain't got no more money to me They're trying to figure out the remedy And your wife is watching this All day that's shit right now You know how they give you your phone now It tells you how much time You spend on your phone Yeah, I know that
Starting point is 00:35:39 You could do that It's terrible. If my TV said how long my channel's on, I'm killing my husband? That shit on there all day. Jada, you have to listen to this a lot. He loves that shit. I'm learning how to, it's because I'm switching it. Like, I'm using it as fuel.
Starting point is 00:36:01 Trying to. Break that down. I'm making it where it doesn't affect me the same way it affects others. Oh. So this is what I heard about you, Joe. You own 3,000 sneakers? There's a good possibility. At least.
Starting point is 00:36:18 There's a good possibility. It's out of control. I mean, that should be in a museum. Yeah, my shit is like a museum. I mean, what are you going to do with all that? Not only that. Where do you have it in a storage area? Don't want to say.
Starting point is 00:36:34 Okay. Oh, don't want to say. It's definitely. air conditioned. But... Has any of them ever rotted out? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:43 They have. I've done shows tours where I'm like the mellow, yellow and blue joints that he had back I'd wear that shit on stage.
Starting point is 00:36:52 My whole foot flew through the fucking sneaker on stage. I did the whole show on socks. You guys know, he's only rubbing and glue, boy,
Starting point is 00:36:59 so it could anytime they, sometimes they just fall apart. You know, a promoter one is time. He's like, yo, I need an hour. That shit flew
Starting point is 00:37:07 off like with 20 minutes. I had to do the whole number 40 minutes in the sock. I'm scared to wear them on the ears. And Jada, I hear you're becoming a documentarian. You're doing a documentary on locks. Yeah, yeah. We got invited to the
Starting point is 00:37:25 Tribeca Film Festival room. Wow. Well, I'll tell you, one of the co-founders of that of the festival is a friend of mine. Her name is Jane Rosenthal. Put it in a good word for us. More than you need that.
Starting point is 00:37:41 I will. Damn right. Appreciate it. So you're up for the big festival? Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're getting ready, getting geared up, making sure everything is right. Leave the rest in God's hands.
Starting point is 00:37:52 I'd call De Niro, but I don't know. I'm shocked you don't know, Bobby. I don't know. I met him once, but briefly. Yeah, I met him a couple of times. School? He was with detained. No, no.
Starting point is 00:38:11 No, no, no. Bobby De Niro can't do no wrong in my eyes, but his ex-wife was cooler. Grace. Sometimes I went to Noble and she just covered the bill. You know, they own Noble. Yeah. They're one of the founders of Noble. So it's a couple of times I went to eat dinner at Noble, and they was like, check, paid for Bobby De Niro's wife, you know, when she was with. Who is that? Grace.
Starting point is 00:38:33 Grace, yeah. She paid for the bill a couple of times. Shout out the grace. Shout out the grace. But Bobby De Niro, that's Hal Pacino. Bobby De Niro. They're in the Joe Pesci.
Starting point is 00:38:44 They're in the lane. Joe and I knew each other. You knew Joe. Oh, Joe's the best. Joe's the best. Joe's the best. We did a show on Carbone with Mario Carbone.
Starting point is 00:38:55 They said he went up in there and made his own recipe. Oh, yeah. I went to chicken with the lemon this and cooked cereal. And in three minutes you put on that, like he told him.
Starting point is 00:39:05 His martini shook and some more. He was in there giving specific orders. You know, Joe Pesci, man. Legend, who was some of the biggest legends that you've come across and you said, wow? Like, I mean, that line, I guess. I mean, I'm so old. I keep forgetting shit. Well, I'm that old because I forget all the time.
Starting point is 00:39:28 No, I mean, but I'll tell you, Pesci used to tell me, I think this is a story. De Niro basically got him the job in the Rocky Gratziano movie, the boxing. What a fuck. Raging Bull. What a movie. You ever seen Raysing Ball? He played Jake. He played Jake Lamata in Raging Ball.
Starting point is 00:39:49 Rating. Romato. What a fucking movie. And Pesci who played his brother. And Joe said that he had done something that maybe De Niro had seen. But at the time he was working a bar or a restaurant in Jersey. And all of a sudden he gets this phone call that Scorsese wants to see him because DeNiro remembered him. And so that's how he started his whole career.
Starting point is 00:40:13 I got a kid like that, right? I got a kid, the building I live in Miami. This motherfucker, I come outside, young Spanish kid. He got the fucking hair. He's the dormant. I see him. I'll be like, he could be your fucking star. He's like, Joe, I mean, you gotta do movies.
Starting point is 00:40:35 He said he never even thought of acting. You look at this kid. He looked like Benicio. the Torrio, a young... I said, boom. No, no, I'm... Listen to how shit happens, right? I go, shout out the Harbor View.
Starting point is 00:40:49 They put it together an event, and I'm sitting next to a guy who puts out movies, and in the middle of the panel, I'm like, yo, I know a guy. Fucking, he'll be the star of your movie. You got the fucking head, this young Spanish,
Starting point is 00:41:03 that's how it happens. Sure. So if he would have said, followed up and said, Fat Joe, who's the kid? And the kid would have worked out. It can happen like that, bro. Don't you think you had a break?
Starting point is 00:41:17 Didn't somebody give you a break? Well, yeah, of course. But I went to... Didn't somebody, Jay. I went to the Apollo Theater. There's always somebody. Yeah. I went to the Apollo theater.
Starting point is 00:41:27 Shout out Diamond D. He gave me my break. And I went to Amateur Night at the Apollo, and I won four weeks of the road. That's how I got my start. So everybody around me started becoming the rapper is successful. And that was just like, I got to do it too.
Starting point is 00:41:44 So I went to the Apollo Theater. How about you, Jada? You got a guy? You got somebody? The man of stands. Took a lot of hard work. A lot of doors being closed. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:42:00 But finally he was able to make it happen. They're still closing the doors open. Really? He met a guy. He knows a guy. He was the cousin to Mary Jay Blige. They're from the same town. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:42:16 So he gave her the demo, and she went downtown and handed it over. And correct? Somewhat. I can write your fucking biography. Somewhat on the terms of... I'm almost there, huh? Mary Jay, I would say, though. Mary Jay is one of the key factors for help.
Starting point is 00:42:39 Probably the most important. Talk about talent. I'm going out there. You're going to Vegas? I'm out there. For her residency? You're going out there. Oh, she has a residency in Vegas.
Starting point is 00:42:52 I'm going to be. Nobody lets me enjoy it. Key Swet got a show coming up, and I'm like, all right, the minute I walk in, Fat Joe, performing live. I can't even go to a show, man.
Starting point is 00:43:06 They bring you up. I want... Everybody. I was in Charlotte. When I say, listen, every human being, and I'm a show,
Starting point is 00:43:17 I want to go to the show. I went to a comedy show. I thought I was out of town. I did what I had to do. The comedy show's there. Man, I'm going to go enjoy the comedy. For some reason,
Starting point is 00:43:28 I knew it wasn't going to work. I get there. Like, I'm there. I'm on the side. I said, this is too good to be true. I'm not going to be bad. Ten minutes.
Starting point is 00:43:39 This guy comes. Mike Epps wants you in the back. Let me go see Mike. What's up, Mike? Oh, it's Stephanie Mills' birthday. We got Anthony Hamilton. He was thinking, perhaps you can do why. And, me, God, damn it.
Starting point is 00:43:57 I just want to watch the show. I don't know. I did it. I purchased the tickets, and they still tap me like him. And you got to work for free. And you're working for free. Let me tell you. I'm going there with the expectation to be expecting.
Starting point is 00:44:13 Let me tell you some of the greatest. I won't say the greatest, but they're in that fucking conversation of goats. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, they made some of the greatest songs ever heard of Mancos. He's having like a Q&A where how he came, and how this, this and that. And I go sneak in there.
Starting point is 00:44:38 right down here city winery beautiful uh venue everybody's in there and i'm just chilling and sure enough the light just came shh-ch-ch-ch-ban pan pan they tapped me the mic is your man playing the piano like i say yo those is like distorted performances those are extorted performances where you ain't got no choice but i love them And I'm glad he thought of me, but I'm just saying it's just, it happened anyway. I go to a birthday party. I go anywhere. It turns into any wedding bar mitzvah I go to.
Starting point is 00:45:18 I know they're going to try to. Here's the mic, Joe. I mean, that's how it is. It's like a double-edged sword. It's a good thing that can get annoyed. Yeah, it's a good feeling. It's a good feeling. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:33 You know, when I look at people like, when I look at like Smokey Robinson, Patty LeBelle Gladys Knight These are artists 80 years old and they're still touching that stage every night
Starting point is 00:45:48 and I'm watching them they just love the feeling I don't think it's so much financially no more I think it's like they love Smokey Robinson
Starting point is 00:45:58 and they come out and they're singing their songs and it makes them feel alive I tell you I tell you one of my finest moments years and years ago I had the four tops on a local TV show that I used to do.
Starting point is 00:46:13 And they had such a good time. They anointed me the fifth top. Ah, Mark, what's up, brother? Damn, man. You know the Knicks, man. Joe.
Starting point is 00:46:31 Joe, are we going to talk about the Knicks now? No, no, no, we're not going to talk about the Knicks. Now, who are you a fan of? Well, believe it or not, I'm a Nick fan. But I have, there's a caveat to that. My God's son is the assistant basketball coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Wow. So I kind of root for them to, thankfully, they're in the West.
Starting point is 00:46:54 Did you think they was going to win? You ain't think there was not. Nobody. But I'll tell you, Anthony Edwards is a big star. The truth. Listen, guys. Anthony Edwards. You don't think so.
Starting point is 00:47:07 It's just a fucking, fucking twin. Anthony Edwards is the real deal. Anthony Edwards has everything it takes to be in the elite. He has everything. But we don't talk about MVP top five Anthony Edwards. Because the only reason why is he's not aggressive enough. Like Jalen Brunson ain't in the MVP compensation, but he going to shoot every ball. Anthony Edwards actually throws it around.
Starting point is 00:47:37 not aggressive enough. If you guys think he's aggressive, he needs to be more aggressive. Flag on the play. Oh, no. I see him driving. Anthony Edwards drives to that hoop all the time.
Starting point is 00:47:54 Yeah, no, not enough. Edwards won a game this year where the coach specifically told you to shoot it. And he shot it and won in center. He told Brett's confidence. He told him, I don't pass it. I had to win it.
Starting point is 00:48:08 If that ain't aggressive enough, the coach, that was a game. How about, I want him more aggressive. McHale Bridges on the New York Knicks. They gave up five first round round picks. We might not could even get Giannis
Starting point is 00:48:24 because we gave up all our picks for him. I feel like the man coach. I feel like he's not aggressive enough. I think he's talented enough to score more. He's just not aggressive. some these guys, some days, they're super aggressive, some days they're not. I want Anthony Edwards to be like that every game.
Starting point is 00:48:45 I want him to be aggressive at attack. Now, at that point, he's a goal. Yeah, but everybody in town wants to be more aggressive than he is. They don't give him the ball. I disagree with all these people. I disagree with all these people. Atlanta beat us this whole year. The one game we beat them, they gave a ball of college.
Starting point is 00:49:06 Anthony Town is actually the antidote to beating Atlanta. Give him the fucking ball. He's sitting there and they're coming down 36 times and they won't give the man the ball. Oh my gosh.
Starting point is 00:49:22 I thought Spike Lee. Mike Brown's your neighbor. Go to his house and tell him. He's still wearing them funny shoes. I thought Spike was the biggest fan. He knows too. He watches the show. Mike Brown's been such a great guy. I love the coach. But he wears some funny shoes, man.
Starting point is 00:49:39 I tell him all the time. I say, yo, one day, one day he wore air max. We won by 40. I said, it's the fucking sneakiest coach. It's the fucking, the same bullshit they got on with no soul. You can tell from far away what sneak somebody. Oh, no, I could super tell. And your man, Alvarado, I don't know what kind of deal.
Starting point is 00:50:01 He got a stop. He got AM1s on. And he got the AM1s on. Like, yo, like, I love him to Jeff. He's Puerto Rican for Brooklyn. I love, what is he doing with them shit's on, man? The AN1. Well, that scare you if you're going up against Alvarado.
Starting point is 00:50:18 He got the A&1's on? Joe and Jada Show.com. We got new merch fresh off the presses. Go get it. Big out of big. Boom. Joe and Jadish Show. com.
Starting point is 00:50:37 It's my favorite right there. I need an extra large. Show and Jatisho.com. Go there and get it. I'm Luke Wilson. Join me each week for Film Never Lies. Starting point is 00:51:23 So how did we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
Starting point is 00:51:47 people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. Starting point is 00:53:39 Oh, you did? recently. He and I go back. And Jordan, you and Michael Jordan? Tell me something about MJ. Michael's the best. You know, he used to have a golf tournament. He invited me every year.
Starting point is 00:53:52 And I played in this golf tournament. And my wife had the famous interview in the last dance where my wife asked him about gambling. And he said, you know, do you have a problem? And he's, MJ's answers are unreal. No, I don't have a problem with gambling. I'm a very competitive guy. I consider that just another part of competition.
Starting point is 00:54:19 That's what he's doing in NASCAR right now. Right. But he is. By the way, if you talk to anybody who ever played with him or against him, he was the most competitive guy in everything. He still is right now. The guy's a NASCAR. He's taking on the whole league.
Starting point is 00:54:36 I know. They sued him. He went to court, beat him. He didn't. Good, yo, yo. He's too dumb and won. Yes. But the whole point is he's in a place where he's defying all odds.
Starting point is 00:54:50 And he loves it, loves it, loves it, loves it. And people don't realize he's from Carolina. And so he grew up as a NASCAR fan with his father. That's what he's telling us. He told us that he grew up. He loves NASCAR. Right. You know, he told me, yo, this is my thing right here.
Starting point is 00:55:08 You know what I'm saying? Yeah, Michael and I go. my wife and I were lucky enough to be at the game when he came back to the garden after being out of the league and scored 55. Oh, wow. Double nickel. Uncle was a double nickel. Yeah, right under the basket. And magic was there.
Starting point is 00:55:28 Magic, by the way, loves my wife. They go all the way back when she used to anchor in L.A. And they used to go to the Waffle House. have chicken and waffles. Let me ask you a question. Yeah. And I ask everybody that don't get offended. Sure.
Starting point is 00:55:45 Because right in that seat, you mentioned Cardi B was in that seat. Yeah. Also, Rich Paul was in there and Jimenez-Dupree. Rich Paul got Adele. Jermaine DePree used to go with Janet Jackson. How do you get Citee Tom? Not Citi Tom. Oh, whoa.
Starting point is 00:56:02 Connie Chung. Oh, Connie Chuck. Cag on the play. Oh, no, no. You know, listen, Mark. Mori, I'll fuck everybody. I know your wife. I fuck everybody's name off.
Starting point is 00:56:13 Here's a thing. I fuck everybody's name up. Joe, you're not far off, okay? Kylie Tong, Channel 11, New York, and Connie Chung, my wife, grew up together in D.C. Two if it would. I know his wife. You're not listening to me.
Starting point is 00:56:30 I get everybody's name wrong. Why you ain't defending me right now? Because you said the right person. Why you ain't like, listen. Mori, he fucks up the names all the time. The point is, how does a Mori Povic approach to her and says, hey, what was that? Tell me what are you got? We were in the business together.
Starting point is 00:56:50 I got a divorce. I was working in L.A. She was working in L.A. And she kind of took pity on me when I got fired. And so I got fired at this gig. You ever been fired? Yeah, I've been fired my whole life. Okay.
Starting point is 00:57:06 Go. And so we started to date, okay? And we dated seven and a half years on and off while she was messing with all the Hollywood swells. And I was, you know, dating people. She said I couldn't even remember the first names of. You know, I hate to make reference to it at the same time because this is your time. But, you know, one day I'm in Chicago and I run into Jerry Sprinker. Sure.
Starting point is 00:57:34 and there's a, you know, every town got a diner that everybody go to after the club. He was sitting back there with like 10 joints. Oh, no question. Jerry Springer, four in the morning. Oh, yeah. He had the theories with him. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:48 And they looked like, hey, Jerry. He was a regular in the diner. Everybody was like, hey, Jerry, hi, Kyle. Jerry liked the girls. I'm telling you, the one time I seen him, he's sitting in the back of the diner with a hood. Everybody go, he got the theories with him. And he's like, yo, what's up, Jimmy, yeah?
Starting point is 00:58:10 Spot was all right tonight. He was a dear friend of mine. We started together, same year, 91. Wow. Class of 91. Ain't that something, man. Well, you know that 90s for crying out loud. I am the 90s.
Starting point is 00:58:28 No, I am the 90s. What you want me to do? That's the way I come from, the class of 93. Ain't too many rappers from 93 out right now. Like, you know, doing their thing like that. You know what I'm saying? So I got to take that class of 93. Was 50 cents back there?
Starting point is 00:58:45 No, he was after me. You know, 56 came after me. Around my time was... 93's when I graduated. Just before Wuchet. Graduated high school. You had an Army fatigue jacket. No, I had a...
Starting point is 00:59:00 What was you wearing at that time? In 93? Yeah. Whatever the people were wearing. Yeah, you're stupid. Whatever was the uniform of 93. Big pants, big everything. It gives me a perfect opportunity to shout out, Billy Dance.
Starting point is 00:59:17 He got a new album. I'm on it. My brother, you want it? Yeah. You know, I can't get nothing from this guy. Everybody else gets versus, features. Really? Everybody's using him, but not you?
Starting point is 00:59:30 Yeah, I can't get a feature for my partner. I don't even sound right for it. Jerry, think about it. I don't sound. Yo, let's get that 1800 toast. What are you doing now, Jerry?
Starting point is 00:59:43 Because you definitely... The podcast and the Hulu Doc tells you about it. I got... I'm doing this podcast, okay? I'm getting into your game. I'm doing it. You're going to take over the game. That's a fact.
Starting point is 00:59:56 You got... It's my sin. It's my son. How to kill your husband. As long as you keep putting up the women who want to kill their husband, It's good to go. On par with Maury Popovich, YouTube, Spotify, Apple, all the platforms, all that stuff.
Starting point is 01:00:11 I've been dealing into your end of the game. I've had Dave, had Dave East on, had a great time. I love Dave. You like Dave? I love Dave. Had Mayno on. You got the guys. You like these guys.

Starting point is 01:00:31 Really? And you know something? They all said they used to watch the show. Everybody. Everybody. I don't think you could get the best of a lot. Everybody. Everybody watched.
Starting point is 01:00:44 You know what? One is a, like I told you, now I'm a little bit less, what do you call that? Starstruck, because you've been here for like an hour. I tell you, you're like the fucking Smithsonian. Oh, my God. Here's the two. We're doing shots. $1,200, baby.
Starting point is 01:01:03 Fine a tequila. I got another podcast to do later. I'm not going to be all right. You're going to have fluidity. That means fluidity. If it ain't your personal podcast, you're wasting your time. These other guys. Not like you.
Starting point is 01:01:19 No, not like a guy. I'm telling you a person not like you guys. We're smoking their boots out here, boss. You know the biggest compliments I ever used to get from the show and also from the podcast when I have hip-hop people. on and they have the comments. You know what the best comment in the world to me is? You're invited to the cookout.
Starting point is 01:01:40 You can't tell. You can't tell him all you shit. Morrie got all that talk. He doesn't seen all that shit. There's nothing he hasn't seen. There's nothing he has to see. Yo, Mori, let me tell you something. Congratulations.
Starting point is 01:02:01 on what we do that when you set it off when you give me the introduction. A great big intro. Let me give you an outro. Oh, you got an outro? Yes. You changed and you saved people's lives. People going through real things out there.
Starting point is 01:02:19 Many of nights, many of your days, they come and tune into you and they got that inspiration to keep fighting you more than you think you are. How about that? You don't even know how much you mean to people. And I mean, I got to be honest with you. We was just with Michael Jordan.
Starting point is 01:02:40 I mean, when I met Mori Povich out there in that hallway, I felt like I met like a fucking NBA logo in our life. Aren't you? So, no, it's the truth. Man, you keep doing your thing. I'm scared now that you're in the podcast business. No. You're a shit talker.
Starting point is 01:02:57 And the shit talker. Huh. Huh. Let me tell you something more of these guys. They was out here in these podcasts, making all this money and shit. And we're hearing about it. I said, yo, Jay, then let's go. Right.
Starting point is 01:03:10 He said, yo, Joe, I said, let's go. And when that camera turned on, they said, that's all you needed. They said, this shit talker got a show. This is a fucking problem. They gave him a microphone. This shit, like, Mori Popper. It's no way you're not going to be number one. It's impossible.
Starting point is 01:03:30 You're not going to be one. Hey, one more toast to 31 years. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. We love you, Lori. This ain't that.
