Starting point is 00:00:24 Los enbases del verano Siempre van a la amarillo Hello and welcome to another episode of the JRE review. It's 4th of July, so happy 4th of July, everybody. I know I'm English, so coming from me doesn't mean as much, and maybe I shouldn't be saying it. But I've lived in the U.S. a long time, I'm a citizen, I love this holiday, I'm going to a barbecue shortly and you know, the English can stay the fuck out of America except me of course because I'm alright. Today's episode is Joey Diaz episode 1319. Joey Diaz, of course, one of Joe's best friends, a big opener for Joe, has been for many
Starting point is 00:01:08 years. And, according to Joe, it's quite frankly the funniest comedian who ever lived and I have to agree. Anytime I've seen that guy, he has a special energy, he's absolutely brilliant, and he brings it on this podcast, so let's check it out. ["Romantic Rock music plays"] Joey's pretty mad at the beginning of this conversation with Joe, what Diaz is, because of remakes of all movies. He jumps in and gets pretty frustrated with some
Starting point is 00:01:46 certain remakes of certain old movies and how they shouldn't be remade. It does talk about the Blues Brothers and how amazing that is. That movie is really great. And it does hold up. It's so theatrical and hilarious. I mean, it basically is a musical in a sense, but it's not a musical in the traditional sense It's got some brilliant scenes in it some classic singer-songwriter musician comedians It really has it all and it's it's such a fantastic movie. It's so funny John Belushi and Dan Acroid I mean legends of SNL really and
Starting point is 00:02:28 and Dan Acroid. I mean legends of SNL really, and just put it all together in that one. If you haven't seen that one for a long time, you got to check it out. They really nailed that movie. And I love that Joey has such passion about like these classics. Joey always has such an unforgiving passion too. Like when he's like like this is how it is, this is how I see it, that's how it's got to be. And he's so unapologetic with it, but he's still, you know, he's still always willing to listen and gets quiet when he doesn't know something and but loves to get so ramped up, so ramped up and hilarious when he sees something that he likes and I just enjoy it so much I would love to just sit and chill with that guy and he's supposed to be the nicest dude to really the nicest guy And this is an interesting point, you know when you talk about
Starting point is 00:03:16 For example like Louise stuff, right? So Louise like me to type incident something that happened a long time in the past Do people change? Can he ever be forgiven? Oh, excuse me, I'm yawning, it's early. But yeah, it's, can he be forgiven? Do people change? Is that kind of rhetoric and people are saying no? No, you stay like that forever.
Starting point is 00:03:40 But look at Joey. I mean, Joey, I think went to jail for kidnapping, at one point in his life. And like arms, and I don't know if the robbery was in there, but there was some other stuff. I mean, Joey is none of those things now. People can change, people do change, and it's important, and you wouldn't even think twice
Starting point is 00:04:02 about having Joey over or let him watch your kids or whatever. He's a good dad and he's a good person even though he had this very crazy time in his life a very long time ago. It's just an interesting point. It really is. They get talking about some of the classic comedians and some of the amazing things that people have done with comedy. Eddie Izzard came up. Eddie Izzard was in town recently. One of my friends went to CM said that his show was amazing. I've seen him twice. I saw him in New Mexico
Starting point is 00:04:39 and in Chicago. And he is. He's absolutely one of my favorites. He's so clever. He's so funny. He takes you in so many crazy directions and just always seems to be having fun with it. I really love the way he does his comedy. It's just, it's such good times. It really is. And his specials, you know, especially his late 90s specials. Like dress the kill and those ones just have such unique stand up comedy in it. I absolutely love Eddie's love for sure. Something I never heard Joey talk about, whether he believes in aliens or not or whether aliens exist, he said something interesting. I guess New York City in New York State sees the most like UFO sightings. I don't know how true that is. I don't know
Starting point is 00:05:34 if if Joey is like super solid when it comes to like fact check and stuff but he's pretty sure of it and he had some examples and I guess it kind of would make sense right. I mean it kind of would make sense, right? I mean it was interesting that there's a huge city there very strange City that in a lot of ways kind of controls most of the world and maybe if you are alien studying in us I mean what is the control of the world the the flow of money? I would imagine and a lot of it is going through the New York Stock Exchange and it is it is probably the most, what would you call it, terraformed, human place on the planet. I mean, it doesn't look like just regular land anymore. I mean, it's just
Starting point is 00:06:20 massive hireisers. So maybe they are. Maybe they're keeping a close eye on us over there. Saying that though, with all the people that they have and the cameras on the buildings and all the airports and things, you'd think that we'd have some really good footage of aliens there now. Talking about weird things happening and unexplained shenanigans. I was woke up this morning by a 6.1, whatever they call it, Megaton, magnitude earthquake that happened just a few miles away from where I am. And my whole place was shaking and it is really disturbing. It's really disturbing because at first you don't know what it is. You think someone's like running around in your apartment and then next you realize there's an earthquake and you're just waiting for it to start shaking so much that you won't be able to get up and do anything.
Starting point is 00:07:13 It's very strange. If you've never been through one, you're not messing out. They're not a lot of fun anyway. Joe talks about the alien sightings in an interesting way now I think that he's done his show. He talks about them in the sense of there's a lot of crack pots out there obviously, but when a highly trained individual like a pilot somebody that really knows what they're doing, really knows what they're looking at, is saying that they're seeing something that basically can defy the laws of physics. That's something that he pays attention to. And it would make sense, right? You want eyewitnesses
Starting point is 00:07:52 that are credible, and you would have to assume that if government trusts them with multi-million dollar equipment, then they have to be trustworthy. Who else could be more trustworthy? I mean, very difficult to know. So those sightings seem really legit. And then it gives the point too, like there's a lot of UFO sightings, but if something is flying the normal way that we would expect it to, right, but just looks weird, well then that could just be something that somebody built. But if it's flying in a way that defies physics, I mean beyond, then not only is that incredible, but somebody had to have made it, and if it wasn't a government, it was like some guy,
Starting point is 00:08:32 all girl, in their garage, all team, had to build this thing, keep it a secret, use technology that's far beyond anything that we have, because when they look at this stuff, it's not like it's just going 20% faster than our fastest plane. I mean it's straight up to find the laws of physics the way that some of these objects move allegedly. I haven't seen them but I mean what would be more impressive? It being an alien or it being some person that just managed to secretly make this device, you know? It's like a Rick from Rick and Morty and Rick is just like figured it all out. I don't know. Who knows? And you know, memory is weird. That's the next thing that they talk about. Memory is fluid. It's like, where is your your memory? You know Joe even gives the example of one time
Starting point is 00:09:26 He was doing so much coke that he hallucinated that there were police dogs outside of his house So he flushed all the coke down the toilet. I guess he'd been doing coke for like 24 hours And then the next day looks at the window and it was just a fire hydrant I mean That's an hallucination, but yeah, he must have felt stupid and if he didn't look, and he left that location, he might have been like, dude, there were police dogs there, man, I know it. And the more you think about it, the more you reinforce this memory, and then suddenly
Starting point is 00:09:56 it becomes what it is. It's like forgotten memory. Memory is squirrely, you know, things will randomly remind you of different events and Joey Diaz on this podcast have some amazing Examples of like memories the pop back in your head and there they're not what you expect so check that out very fine very funny indeed Again Joey talks a little bit about the the remake of movies He's not a big fan of Jason Statham because Jason fucked up the mechanic. It was like a Charles Bronson movie.
Starting point is 00:10:28 I haven't seen the original, I guess it's all on YouTube. I do want to check it out though and that actually just reminded me so I wrote it down. And then lastly just a little bit about stand up and a shout out to Jamie Foxx for Jamie Foxx changed his name from not Jamie Foxx so the people at comedy clubs would think that he's a hot chick and they would pick him more and that is fucking dedication to your craft and I really think that that is a big part of what is made Jamie Foxx so awesome that he will go all out you know so much so he will go all out, you know, so much so hit
Starting point is 00:11:05 changes name. Anyway, brilliant guys.
