Starting point is 00:00:27 You can get out of every valley. You don't have to be discouraged. You don't have to be defeated. You're not a victim. You're a victor because God lives on the inside of you. Up next on Joel Osteen Radio, Victoria talks about plugging into God's power. And now, welcome back, Victoria Osteen. Can you imagine living in a big, beautiful house, all wired with electricity, well able to run your refrigerator, to run your air conditioning, all of, you. of your lights, you can plug in all your small appliances, all the modern things that we have. Can you imagine living in a home like that, but not being able to run any of that stuff? It's all wired with power and electricity, but you didn't go out to the breaker box and flip on the switch.
Starting point is 00:01:23 Wouldn't that be crazy? I can't even imagine how they lived without power. It would be difficult to imagine because we have gotten so use to having our appliances plugged in. Listen, I bet nobody in here would go out of their house without charging their phone, would they? And I don't know if you're like me. If my phone runs out of battery, I'm looking for someone with a charger. I'm going to plug into that power because I don't want to be disconnected. I want my phone fully charged.
Starting point is 00:01:59 It would be crazy. to live without power when it's available to you. But do you know so many people are living in a house and they're never switching on the power? You see, God has wired you with power. You are fully wired with power. But you've got to turn it on. How do we turn on this power?
Starting point is 00:02:28 Listen to what it says in Romans 10, 9. Now you have to understand this verse is so key to the power of God in you. It says, if you will declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and if you will believe with your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you will be saved. With the heart, man believes, with the mouth, man makes confessions. unto righteousness. When you make Jesus the Lord of your life by saying, I believe God sent his son, he died on the cross for me, he rose again on the third day so that I can be free from sin, that I am on my way to heaven, guess what happens? You go from a house, a temple that has no wiring
Starting point is 00:03:26 to being fully wired. You're fully wired. But to switch on that power that is in you, it says it's with the heart man believes and with the mouth he confesses. You see, that is the switch that turns on the power. I talked to a man the other day, and he told me, Victoria, I've had seven,
Starting point is 00:03:56 strokes, the doctor has found three lesioned areas on my brain. He said, I found myself walking with a cane. I could hardly get around. He said, I'm a pastor of a church. He said, I began to realize my life is just powerless, and I begin to say, God, what is going on? Why do I deserve this? What is wrong. And he said, Victoria, I felt in my heart. And I saw, in the spirit, I felt like I saw this sewage swirling around of thoughts. And I had been thinking this, these poisonous thoughts, and confessing these poisonous thoughts about myself for so long that it drained the power right out of me. He said, it was just like a sewage of thoughts. I had been so critical on myself.
Starting point is 00:04:55 I'd been confessing how I wasn't good enough. How, you know, I didn't have the favor of God that nothing goes right for me. And he said, that confession made me believe it. And he said, I had no power. He said, I found serious X-M-128. He said, and I began to listen to Joel. I began to listen to the word that he preached. I begin to transition my thinking little by little.
Starting point is 00:05:23 He said, I stopped those negative words and I begin to confess and believe the right thing over my life. He said, I'm not walking with the cane anymore, Victoria. He said, I'm able to get around. He said, now would I confess and now would I believe are the promises of God. You see, that man was fully wired. He just wasn't using the power. correctly. He wasn't flipping on the switch. He wasn't believing in his heart and confessing out of his mouth. Now, if I asked you today, do you believe that Jesus Christ gave his life
Starting point is 00:06:05 so that you could be saved? Many of you, most of you would say, yeah, I do. Let me tell you about it. Well, I was a little girl, and it was when I was in Sunday school, or you would tell me when I was a young man, I met God and he saved me. You could tell me a beautiful testimony. I bet I couldn't talk you out of being saved. In fact, if I tried, you'd probably say, Victoria, just leave me alone. You know what? I am saved. We wouldn't let anybody talk us out of that, would we? Why do we let our circumstances? Why do we let discouragement talk us out of believing that God, was to bless our life. Why do we let what people say about us define us and tell us that we don't have favor? We're not talented. We don't hold great value. We wouldn't let anybody talk us out of being
Starting point is 00:07:02 saved, but we'll certainly let things talk us out of our destiny, talk us out of the good things God has for us. Why is that? We may be fully wired because that's what happened when you gave your heart to Jesus. But you're not turning on your breaker boxes. You're not confessing out of your mouth so you can believe in your heart. You see, when a circumstance comes against you, you have to say, no, uh-uh, God says this about me. He says, I'm fearfully and wonderfully made. When you start feeling sick, no, God is my healer. He's my redeemer. He's my pearl of great price. When people are talking about you, when they're pressing you down, no, no, I don't listen to that, and I certainly don't repeat what they say. I don't repeat what the enemy says about me. I repeat what
Starting point is 00:08:00 God says about me. That's my confession. That's what I believe in my heart. And I'm not going to let anybody talk me out of it. King David, the Psalmist David, king of Israel. God called him a man after his own heart. God called him a man after his own heart. But when you read some of the Psalms, you see that David was susceptible to discouragement. He was also susceptible to cutting off the power instead of turning on the power.
Starting point is 00:08:34 In Psalms 43 and 42, you can read his writings and he begins to talk about his overwhelming feeling, His soul wrenched within him. The armies encamped around him on every side. He begins to talk about all the problems that he has. You continue to read, and all of a sudden you see a transition in his prayer. You see a turning, and he stops, and he challenges that discouraging voice. He challenges those negative situations.
Starting point is 00:09:07 And he says this. He says, why is my soul so downcast? Why am I so discouraged? He's like, I'm a wired man. I'm going to flip on the switch. And then he begins to say, I'm going to put my hope in God. I'm going to trust in the God, my Savior. I'm going to praise him yet again.
Starting point is 00:09:33 You see, he turned on the power. This is a man that's a man that's served under God, that God loved. I believe he is there to show us that we can go down the road of discouragement, but we're fully powered up to charge our batteries, to change our situation, to supersize our strength, to stand strong against the power of the enemy. We have the power in God. Jesus said, I'm going to heaven. He says, I'm going to heaven, but I'm leaving you my power.
Starting point is 00:10:10 And then he said, because you're going to do greater works than I did. Now, I'll tell you, I don't understand all the theology in that, but if God says I'm going to do great works, I'm going to do great works. I'm going to do great works. Discouragement, negative self-talk, it'll hold you prisoner. It'll hold you captive. The only way you can break that chain, the only way that you can break through that is to begin to confess with your mouth and believe in your heart. unto salvation, unto your righteousness, because the enemy doesn't want you to know who you are. He doesn't want you to know what God says about you.
Starting point is 00:10:55 He wants you to hear what other people are saying. He wants you to be dictated by your circumstances. Hey, your bills are getting piling up and your finances are getting a little low. He wants you to say, I'm poor. I'm poor. God doesn't. You know what the Bible says? He says let the poor say I'm rich.
Starting point is 00:11:10 He says let those people who are weak. You begin to say you're strong. Why? Because it's a principle that's been established by God. What you confess out of your mouth and what you believe in your heart will supersize your power. It will plug you in to the greatness of God. Ephesians 320 says, To him who is able to do more than I can think or imagine,
Starting point is 00:11:37 according to the power that works within me. It doesn't say according to God's power, according to if God is happy with me, it says according to what I release and increase on the inside of me. You're wired today, and you can flow in great power. You can overcome every obstacle. You can climb every mountain. You can get out of every valley. You don't have to be discouraged.
Starting point is 00:12:08 You don't have to be defeated. You're not a victim. You're a victor. Because God lives on the inside of you. You are wired with God's power. Starting point is 00:13:36 You know, sometimes we take prayer for granted, but prayer is a privilege. It's talking to God, communicating with God. You see, the Bible says that when our spirit connects with God's spirit, something incredible happens. We are ignited with the power of Almighty God. See, the strongest part of you is not your physical body. It's not your emotional or your soulless realm. The strongest part of you, the eternal part of you, is your spirit man. And when you connect the strongest part of you with the strongest force in the
Starting point is 00:14:19 universe, there's an exchange that takes place. There's a powerful transformation that takes place. See, God is a big God. He flung the stars into space. He's in full control, just like we sang about God is unshakable. He's huge. And we have the privilege. to commune with this huge God. We cannot take for granted that we can speak to God and that God hears us. It says in Romans 8, God's spirit testifies with our spirit.
Starting point is 00:14:58 You see, God's spirit is constantly telling our spirit when we get into communion with him, who we are, what we can do. Our spirit is picking up the signals of God. It's changing. It's growing. It's taking on a new dimension, a heavenly dimension. A dimension that you can't get on this earth.
Starting point is 00:15:19 You can only get it when you ignite and connect your spirit with God's spirit. Now, that sounds far out, doesn't it? But it's the truth. It's the truth. You are a spiritual being, and you were designed to connect with your spiritual father. In fact, when Jesus left this earth, you know what he said? He said, I'm leaving the Holy Spirit here with you, the person of the Holy Spirit. That's who we get to talk to every single day.
Starting point is 00:15:50 Paul told us and encourages us all through the New Testament to pray continuously, to pray without ceasing, to pray all kinds of prayers, all kinds of requests, all kinds of petitions to God. He was saying, go for it. Talk to God. Talk to God. Wow, isn't that incredible? But God doesn't judge us when we talk to him? He communes with us.
Starting point is 00:16:17 Think about when your child comes up to you. You don't judge them. Your heart goes out to them. You want to help them. The first thing that you want to do is fix them, encourage them, strengthen them. You're looking at what they're doing right, not what they're doing wrong. When you come to God, he is looking. at what you're doing right.
Starting point is 00:16:39 He sees that recreated spirit within you, and he is connecting his spirit. The very lifeline of heaven is being connected to you. You know, Jesus gave us an example of a habit that he had. And it says that Jesus would often withdraw to lonely places, leaving the crowd to connect with his. His Father in heaven. He also told us this in Matthew 6.
Starting point is 00:17:13 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door. He says, when you pray to your father who is unseen in secret, he will reward you openly. You see, Jesus was saying, not only do I need to get away from the crowds, my crowded life, the needs of the world to get with my father. But you should too. We must withdraw from this busy schedule, from this crazy hectic world, and get alone with God. We need to meet with God every single day alone. In fact, Jesus said in Matthew 6, he says, when you go into your room and you shut the door, you pray in secret, and God will reward you in secret.
Starting point is 00:18:08 God will communicate and bear witness with your spirit that you are a child of the most high God. You are connecting the strongest part of yourself with the strongest force of the universe. You are transforming your inner life. Your inner life. That's where the spirit dwells. The Bible says it's the spirit of the man that sustains the man. We want our spirits to be strong. And the only way we can do that is when we come into this personal relationship with God.
Starting point is 00:18:45 You know, it's interesting because when Joel and I were dating, we would just get alone, looking to each other's eyes, sit over dinner. We really wouldn't even have to say much. Somehow, when we were together, we just had this connection. We fell in love that way. Can you imagine if we dated and we never got alone? All we did was hang out with all of our friends. He was always with his buddies.
Starting point is 00:19:09 His buddies were always around. My girlfriends were always there. Always doing something. Always distracted. Would we have fallen in love the way we fell in love when we just sat with each other, looked at each other, got to know one another? It's interesting. I know him quite well.
Starting point is 00:19:28 In fact, we were married eight years before we had our son, Jonathan. So we spent a lot of alone time together. I know what he likes to eat. I can pretty much tell you what he likes and doesn't like. In fact, if we're not together, somehow, if I'm by myself and a situation arises, I just know what he would tell me to do. Now, if I do it or not, that's another story. But just somehow from being with him and building this relationship, I know what he would want me to do.
Starting point is 00:20:05 And, you know, that's how it is with our relationship with God. we learn about God. We develop this relationship, this intimacy with him when we're together, when we're away from the distractions, just when we're gazing into his eyes, simply sitting at his feet. You see, when we set ourselves apart, God sets us up to win. When we're willing to let go of the distractions, to push through getting along with him. and I can tell you that there is a push through that you have to do. Because sometimes you can sit there and you don't know what to do.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Maybe you take a scripture and you just ponder it over and over. Maybe you sit there and you just say, God, I thank you. I love you. Thank you for breath to breathe. Thank you for this day. Thank you for molding me and making me who I am. Father, I want to know you more. Reveal yourself to me, God.
Starting point is 00:21:00 I don't know what that intimacy looks like for you. But I can tell you this. that you have a need. The only thing that's going to satisfy your soul, the only thing that's going to give you vision for your life is to sit at the feet of Jesus, to set yourself apart, to say it's worth it. It's worth building a relationship. How many of you guys know that sometimes the smallest thing can just irritate you? Things that really don't matter in the long run. I was with a girlfriend of mine several years ago, and she was showing me her vacation photos. I hate to date this, but it's when we used to go get them at Walgreens.
Starting point is 00:21:51 She said, I just picked up my vacation photos. Let's look at them. So I said, okay, and so we began to look at this beautiful pictures of blue skies, sandy beaches, all these cute little shops at the port, just so much fun. and we're looking, and I noticed she was getting a little more irritated, and she was going through the pictures more quickly. And I was like, okay, okay, you know, I was going to kind of really check them out and talk about them.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Then all of a sudden I noticed she began to say, I look terrible in that picture. I don't like that picture. I'm not wearing that outfit again. It doesn't photograph well. And she began to pick herself apart in these pictures. See, it went from enjoying her vacation to looking at something about herself that I couldn't even see. You see, sometimes we forget the big picture. We forget to look at the blue skies, the sandy beaches, the smiling faces, our children,
Starting point is 00:22:53 because we see that speck on the picture. And that's all we focus on. her memory all of a sudden became negative. Think about Adam and Eve. They were in a beautiful garden, lush, green garden. They had fruit everywhere. They could eat all they want, never gained any weight, no laundry. They were in this amazing God-given garden.
Starting point is 00:23:26 And one day, Eve, got her eye on a single bush. A single bush in the garden. The only bush she was asked not to touch. And that day, that bush became the biggest thing that she saw. In fact, that bush was so big, it distorted the whole view of the garden. You see, that bush was the speck on the picture. She didn't see the whole picture because all she could see.
Starting point is 00:24:00 is what she didn't have. Let's don't see the specs in our life. Let's begin to see the whole picture, what we do have. Let's don't let a bush distort this amazing life God has given us, the relationships that we have. Because in the long run, it really doesn't matter. I think we could all say if we step back that we've seen some specs that mess some things up for us.
Starting point is 00:24:29 We focused on some things that we didn't have and we forgot to see all the great things that we do have. Listen, I don't want to live in regret. Do you? I want to enjoy what God has given me right now. The beauty of the moment. I think about my friend. And today, I bet if she pulls those same pictures out, she's going to go, I look pretty good in those pictures. You know, sometimes when the years go by, you don't look as bad as she thought you did.
Starting point is 00:24:58 When my kids were very young, we were at the old building, and it was an Easter Sunday, and everyone was dressed up. You know, all the family was there, the cousins, the aunts, the uncles, you know, the grandmothers. Everyone was there and looking so good. You know, we were all there together, and I remember thinking, I want to get an Easter picture. Everybody's so cute, all the little outfits the kids had on. And about the time, we could round everybody up. to get this Easter picture, we're placing everybody.
Starting point is 00:25:33 I look, and there's my two little kids they had changed out of their Easter clothes and put on their play clothes. They're standing there with some shorts and a raggedy old t-shirt and some tennis shoes. And I'm like looking at them, and it was enough just getting everyone rounded up. There wasn't time for me to go, change them, and bring them back.
Starting point is 00:25:55 And I remember thinking, I am so frustrated. You see, because I wanted this picture to be perfect. It had to be my way. It was my picture. Let me tell you what, that picture is one of my most treasured possessions today. One of my most treasured possessions. But at the time, all I saw were those khaki shorts and tennis shoes and green t-shirt that I did not want in my picture.
Starting point is 00:26:27 We need to remember what life is. is about, it's about God's goodness, it's about our family, it's about the big picture. So often we want it to be perfect. We want it to go our way. And when it slightly takes a curve, it messes everything out. You see, my little kids, they had no idea. They're just kids. You see, I would rather have a good relationship with my kids than to be all upset with them. Let me tell you what, They're in college now. I would give anything to just have a picture with them today. You know, I don't care what they're wearing.
Starting point is 00:27:06 I really don't. Have you ever wanted things so perfect and it didn't go your way? I know a lot of mothers can relate to this. We want our kids' birthday parties to be spectacular. We want Spider-Man there on time. We want the princess coming with the right clothes on. We want everything perfect. We get so uptight planning and anticipating.
Starting point is 00:27:33 We forget who we're celebrating. We don't even relax and realize this is my child's birthday. I'm going to enjoy this birthday party and celebrate them. Let's don't look at the spec. Let's step back and see the big picture. This holiday season, we're all busy. There's a lot going on. Let's make memories.
Starting point is 00:27:57 that will last and that we can enjoy for a lifetime, okay? We are going to see the big picture.
