This John O'Ban podcast, hey that's us, brought to you by HelloFresh, the experts and tastes that Kiwis love.
Oh, we're getting into the Christmas spirit, aren't we? With something we're calling We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
It's on the lead up to Christmas, just a few days to go, so we wanted to try something quite random.
It's just find a merry each day and wish them a merry Christmas and find out about their year, what they want for Christmas, that sort of thing.
Why don't you fade out the Merry Christmas music?
I'm going to keep going.
Figgy pudding.
He's going,
Acapulco!
So we've managed to find a Mary
who doesn't know that we're going to be calling.
You can imagine all your favourite aunties
and uncles in this choir, can't you?
We should join a choir and do proper caroling.
That's a fun idea.
Ben was like, um...
Well, I'd do it, but in a group situation, I'm not going to do any solos.
Well, that's the joy of a choir, isn't it?
So I've found a Mary here,
and we'll go through and wish Mary a Merry Christmas,
see how her year's been. I hope Mary's festive. What's on the gift wish
list and what not. It's during the middle of a work day though we're calling so it's probably
you know. Hello. Is that Mary? Yeah.
Well firstly we'd like to wish you a Merry Christmas.
This is Jono, Ben and Megan from the Hits
radio station. Sorry, who's speaking? This is Jono, Ben and Megan from the Hits Radio Station.
Sorry, who's speaking?
Jono, Ben and Megan from the Hits Radio Station.
Oh, really?
Yeah, it is.
Hi, Mary.
We're testing something called a Merry Christmas where we talk to a Mary each day.
We surprise them about their year, how they are,
what they want for Christmas.
You can see how we got there
with the Merry Christmas name.
Probably don't need to over-explain it.
Oh, you'd be better off to ask me what my last name is.
What's your last name?
Death.
Mary.
I'm dying.
Mary Death.
Mary Death.
Yeah.
Are you?
Oh, that's a juxtaposition.
I thought your last name was going to be Christmas.
I was like, what?
Yeah.
And guess what I do for a job?
What?
Funeral director.
I'm a funeral celebrant.
Oh, you are?
Funeral celebrant.
Wow.
Are you Mary Death the funeral celebrant?
I am, indeed.
Jeez, you're in the right line of work, or maybe the wrong line of work.
Yeah.
What do people say when you introduce yourself?
Well, some people laugh, some people cringe.
Some people say, please don't introduce yourself other than Mary.
Let's just go on a Beyonce type basis.
Oh, really?
How long have you been doing that job?
Well, I've only been doing that for six, but prior to that I was a hospice nurse,
so I was nurse death at the hospice.
Mary, I mean,
it's an unfortunate
surname to have,
isn't it,
from varying occupations,
but have you had
a good year, though, Mary?
I've had a fabulous year,
thank you.
Oh, nice.
I'm just sitting here
in the parking lot
with a man that's
just fixed my Bluetooth.
So I'll probably not be able to chat for too long.
Is the man there?
He is.
We wish you a Merry Christmas too, man.
Thank you very much.
Is the Bluetooth sounding good?
Yeah, not bad.
Are we coming through the Bluetooth?
You are, indeed. Can I give we coming through the Bluetooth? You are, indeed.
Can I give some feedback to the Bluetooth?
It's a little bit echoey from our end.
Yeah, it definitely is.
We're trying to put this on a podcast, a Christmas podcast,
and it's a little echoey, but it's listenable.
You can hear it.
So I don't know if that helps you with further installation of the Bluetooth.
It may well do.
Yeah, no, good.
So you might just want to turn it on.
Is that fixable yet? Yeah, no, good. So you might just want to turn down. Is that fixable?
Yeah.
Yeah, we'll try.
Okay, Mary, just quickly, what do you want for Christmas, Mary?
What do I want for Christmas?
I'd like to lose weight.
You are perfect the way you are, Mary.
Don't you talk to my friend like that.
Don't you lose weight, mate.
Don't you lose weight, mate.
I heard myself say that again, and geez, that sounded consoling.
Oh, Mary, thank you so much for answering the phone.
Thank you for, I know you're in the middle of some Bluetooth operation.
You're like, oh, cheers to Bluetooth.
And you spoke to us.
You gave us great facts about yourself.
Oh, you're wrapping it up.
Okay. Well, lovely talking to you. you spoke to us. You gave us great facts about yourself. Oh, you're wrapping it up. Okay.
Well, lovely talking to you.
Have a Merry Christmas.
You too.
Bye.
See you, man.
See you, man.
There we go.
Oh, she is.
There we go.
What do we think?
I loved it.
I don't know if we're going to beat that Merry, though.
Well, hey, who knows tomorrow as we wish another Merry at random and Merry Christmas.
That's the bar.
It's set very high.
We're getting a Merry birth tomorrow.
Yeah. Okay. We had Merry. It's set very high. We're getting Mary birth tomorrow. Yeah.
We've got Mary.
She's a funeral director.
You know,
she had great stories.
She had Bluetooth.
She had a lot going on.
That's the
Merry Christmas podcast.
We'll be bringing you
one of those
for the next four days
as we lay out the Christmas.
Merry Christmas.
