So my daughter, Andy, 11 years old, she loves guitar. She plays guitar and she's put together
with her friends a bit of a school band. Great. But there's a bit of a hiccup. There's a bit of
an issue. And she told me about this. And then I went away and I thought about it while she was
practicing guitar in a room. And I was like, I'll come back and I'll see if I can sort this issue
out with your help on the radio. Have a listen to her dilemma. Sorry, Andy. Sorry to interrupt.
You were just saying before that your band at school needs what?
Oh, like a bass player.
Oh, so you haven't got a bass player at the moment?
Yeah, we're looking for one.
Okay, so maybe I could put the call out on the radio,
maybe looking for a bass player?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Okay, what sort of songs, what songs are you playing?
We're playing Glitter by Benny and Rolling in the Deep by Adele.
Okay, Glitter by Benny.
Just a little bit of...
If you'd like to audition, what's the pay like?
It's about like 5k a week.
Oh, 5k a week.
Wow.
Yeah.
I might have to take up bass lessons.
5k a week?
Yeah, I don't know who's paid it.
To be honest, I don't think it's a paid thing.
The fellow should pluck that figure out of thin air.
But I only know one bass player, and I think you do as well,
friend of the show, Chris Mack from 660.
A flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Oh, yeah, true.
I only know one bass player with a phone number that I have.
John Paul Jones, Led Zeppelin.
Okay, there's probably a lot of bass players I know,
but none with the phone Other than Chris Mack
From 660
Friend of the show
So I thought
We should call him now
And see if he would
Be bass player
For a school band
This is great
Now just front foot
Is it weird
Having a fully grown adult
In a band
Oh hey Jack Black did it
Oh yeah School of Rock
He was an adult
In a kids band
School of Rock
Yeah you're right
He was the vocalist
Maybe he likes School of Rock
Yeah that's what
We should sell him on Do you like School of Rock Well have you got was the vocalist Maybe he likes School of Rock Yeah that's what We should sell him on
Do you like
School of Rock
Well have you got
An opportunity
To be part of it
Maybe we'll go
Are you a fan
Of Jack Black
Yeah
And then you'll think
Oh maybe they've got
Jack Black
And then we'll just
Hum down the tears
Yeah
Okay
Right
Thankless role
In the band
The bass player
I mean without it
It sounds off
But no one's like
Yeah Everyone's like, yeah.
Everyone's like, the guitar solo, you know.
Hello, Chris McGee.
Oh, Chris Mack.
It's Jono and Ben.
Chris Mack, friend of the show.
Friend of the show, Chris Mack.
I love to hear it.
What's going on?
You sound like I'm talking through your pocket at the moment.
Oh, I've got, as I had my hoodie up.
Is it better now?
Is that better?
Yeah, no, it's fine.
I mean, we shouldn't come in here bullying you about your audio quality.
You weren't expecting this call.
No, I wasn't, but it's lovely to hear your voices.
Now, the first question.
Are you a fan of Jack Black?
Yes, yes, yes, I am a fan of Jack Black.
Good, good, good.
Good first question.
Are you a fan of the movie School of Rock with Jack Black?
I absolutely love the movie School of Rock.
Great.
Now, how would you like to perform with a school band,
kind of like Jack Black did in School of Rock?
I mean, how much are you paying?
I mean, yes, obviously.
5K a week.
Apparently 5K a week, which I don't know if they could back up.
Daughter Indy, she's joined a school band.
They're looking for a bass player. And I'm like, well well the only bass player i know with a number of is chris
mack well i know what she's like you see i know she's a she's a she's a prima donna like her old
man and i already work with one of those in my other band so there's no turning up late no no
no hangovers in this band mate you've got to turn up you've got to play glissa from benny and rolling in the deep is the only two songs they know okay well i don't know either of
those but i can learn them the good thing is the gig's only you know six minutes you know what i'm
in i'm on board and if you don't get into banquets that's all over i mean it's all over after that
i'm in i'm absolutely in on a serious note, State of Origin. How cool is that?
660 playing State of Origin 3.
Yeah, I mean, we're standing in the well-trodden footsteps of the likes of Shannon Knoll.
And so...
LAUGHTER
We couldn't be happier.
A field of legends.
No, but, yeah, seriously, though, I mean, I grew up,
watched my granddad, and so to get the opportunity to play it was,
it's just crazy.
I was pinching myself.
I wouldn't actually tell anyone about it because I was nervous
it was going to be cancelled.
I didn't want to get too excited.
Just make sure you're done before the players come back on the field.
That's my only thought.
Yeah, no, yeah, well, they've wisely put us before the game now,
not after, so there's no chance of us ruining anything.
We did something at the Warriors game and they're like,
make sure you're off the field because the players,
when the time's on, just run out and just start tackling things.
And out of the go.
Well, we got off there quickly.
Yeah, fair enough.
Good boys.
Yeah.
