Starting point is 00:00:00 The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast. Chris Parker, welcome. Good morning. That's a very, very formal good morning. I'm having my formal interview. You're about, well, two shows, Auckland and Christchurch, and then you go right across the country with your show called Lots of Love. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:16 A play on LOL, you know? Yeah, a little bit. Well, it's been a big year for me last year. Like, I got married and I was like, oh, there'll be lots of mine out of, like, the marriage in terms of comedy married at a movie theater right at the movies fast and furious or something yeah just playing in the background hopefully the marriage isn't fast and furious it's been furious how have you been finding married life i really love it yeah so you know
Starting point is 00:00:42 what though i feel like you know there's a lot of pressure on married life and I feel like people, you know, in the movies it's like, you know, it's like you're marrying your best friend, which I don't agree with. Like, I don't think you should marry, you're not marrying your best friend because your best friend is someone who you like complain about your husband to. So if you make that the same person and you're, you know, you're making your boss HR and it's, you know. Yeah, that's a good point.
Starting point is 00:01:02 You need to marry someone that you feel like I can slowly grow to hate this person over you know a 50 year period and it's funny as well because it's like for me what like is the true essence of love is just like sitting down at a table and like looking your partner dead in the eyes and just being like can we go on our phones for a little bit you know and i feel like that is true love because you're just like you're so comfortable with each other's that's yeah i mean the amount of couples who probably relate to that listening right now who spend three hours a night just looking at Instagram on their phones on the couch.
Starting point is 00:01:30 You run out of things to say to each other. Yeah. You just do. Like, you could be the most, you could be the most interesting person in the world. You've got to definitely
Starting point is 00:01:36 run out of things to say to each other. And so a little bit of phone time is fine. Barack and Michelle Obama sit on their devices and ignore each other. I'm sure they do, right?
Starting point is 00:01:44 Absolutely. He's on, he's scrolling TikTok, you know. He's showing a meme of Biden to everyone, going, look at this. Exactly. Oh, that's good. Celebrity Treasure Island, obviously you won that and obviously very, very big on all your social media videos these days, which are massive. What do you get recognised more as you travel around the country? Probably Treasure Island.
Starting point is 00:02:03 And then they say, your's got me through lockdown. Oh, yeah. Or they go, oh, my God, you're so tall. That's the other thing. Oh, that's the other thing, is it? I think I give off short man energy. I feel like you're growing taller and taller every time I see you. My feet have got bigger.
Starting point is 00:02:16 Have they really? I can't believe it. I am a firm 14 now. Are you size 14? I'm a size 14, yeah. Wow. It's just, you go into the shop and you're like, do you have a sturdy box
Starting point is 00:02:26 that the shoes have come in? Because I'll wear those at this point. I cannot buy shoes in this country. It's unbelievable. Have they gone from like 13 to 14 over how many years?
Starting point is 00:02:34 In the past couple of years. Really? Yeah, as my ego's gotten bigger, my feet have also grown. To stabilise your head. Growing up, my feet were the same size as my age.
Starting point is 00:02:44 So when I was like 10, I had size 10, 11. Oh, wow. It got like crazy at like 13 because I had like size 13 shoes. Are they hard to get at, you know, you go down to your normal shoe store in the mall? Are they hard to get you the size shoes? Yeah, they don't have my shoes at all. You just have to, you're like, I go in, what's the biggest shoe you've got? And they're like, do you want like a style?
Starting point is 00:03:02 I'm like, no, no, just the biggest shoe you've got. We actually do 11 here. You're like do you want like a style I'm like no no just the biggest shoe you've got we actually do 11 here you're like you're not good to me because I see you've got some
Starting point is 00:03:07 like there's sort of mountain hiking shoes on today I've switched to trekking shoes that's the only
Starting point is 00:03:14 thing I can get now by size because giants love to trek what you need is you read those lovely heartwarming
Starting point is 00:03:19 stories about NBA players who donate their shoes to kids who can't find shoes. I always feel like I should only wear shoes,
Starting point is 00:03:28 the style of shoe that you could considerably see me do the activity of. So I should never be in basketball shoes because I'm never going to be playing a game of basketball. So you're hiking much?
Starting point is 00:03:36 What's happening? Well, I'm always on the run. Chris Barker, very funny. Always nice to catch up, buddy. Thanks for having me, boys.
