The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
Hey, how are ya?
We're doing alright, how are you man?
Oh, I just hung up on him.
Oh, jeez.
Die Hemwood everyone.
Almost got his name correct.
He'll be back soon.
Sorry mate, that was sloppy on my part.
That's what we do these days, that's the end of it, isn't it?
No, we're very excited.
Lego Masters, it's back.
TVNZ 2 started last week, hosted by yourself Dai Henwood.
I know you're a huge fan of Lego but also the Warriors, I've been lucky enough to
commentate a game with you but have you thought of combining them?
Lego Warriors, Let's Go Warriors, you can kind of get that on the sign?
I actually have over the weekend, I've got quite this enormous, punishing Apache Lego helicopter I'm trying to build.
It's pretty amazing. And I ended up just getting sidetracked and building a rugby league stadium,
which in hindsight doesn't look anything like a rugby league stadium.
But I tell you, I'm pretty excited. It's a shame you weren't calling the game with me and Chris Key the other night.
It was amazing.
No, I tell you, between League and Lego, my life's a pretty full scenario.
I was getting confused about what we're promoting here.
Are we promoting Rugby League?
Where are we heading?
We're promoting Lego as an amazing show to watch
and Rugby League just is a holistic lifestyle.
It's just got a combination of two very extreme pastimes
all wound up in one convenient interview.
All right, Lego masters, let's talk about that.
Let's get back on.
What are you, this PR guy?
All right, let's get back to it.
What's some of the amazing creations? Because last
year, the first series was incredible.
I mean, I already had a couple of episodes last week
but what's some of the things we can look forward
to across the series? Well, I don't want
to give away what they're actually building
because I was, what got me
right is we did that first season
and people, I was really surprised
because I'm your classic Kiwi, you
know, where you're like, oh no no, the Aussies have been awesome.
The American show is awesome.
New Zealand is just going to come out and, you know, build something for the average.
And then they blew it out of the water, right?
Like there was just amazing builds and like the one that won it last year, this huge seal that had a motorized hand and all this sort of carry-on was amazing.
And so then I was like, oh, but what about the whole
getting a whole nother lot of people?
Like, have we exhausted the talent?
But there's this huge adult Lego community in New Zealand
and they're just amazing.
Like, every time I think
it's an awesome show
and I'm getting a few
dad points and I get a bit of kudos
at school drop offs
I'm feeling
pretty cool. You must be
killing it with the primary school demo
It's amazing, there's a whole
I was looking yesterday, there's a whole Spotify white noise
Lego playlist where it's nothing but just Lego sounds, there's different things you
can listen to, here's the waterfall sound of just Lego basically, it goes like this.
And it's just like white noise of just Lego, and it continues like that.
Is it coming off a conveyor belt or something?
I think it's just, yeah.
Look, can I just say that's not relaxing at all?
I found it quite relaxing and peaceful.
I actually must say it made me quite tense.
Just for that few seconds,
you've ruined your Spotify algorithm.
Just the sound of crashing, breaking.
It's going to be my Spotify-wrapped
over the end of the year
Lego playlist
You look at these creations using thousands of pieces
In the back of my mind
I'm like who is the poor
The poor schmuck
Who got into television
Went three years of broadcasting school
And their job is to solely clean up
Lego from the set
So
You know going into it,
that was literally my first question
that I asked the producers.
I was like, hey, so who pulls all this apart?
Because not only do you have to pull all the bits apart,
and they're put together really well
because they've got to be huge,
they also sort them into colours and sizes.
Oh, my God. But so people into colours and sizes. Oh, my God.
But so people fought over that job.
Oh, really?
We had way more people applying desperate to do that particular job
because some people, that's their jam.
They just put on their Spotify playlist of facing Lego
on some noise-cancecelling headphones and they just
get in the zone.
I suppose it's quite satisfying getting the colours coded
and everything away. Maybe season 3
is Lego sorters.
People putting them
away. Oh that's good.
Oh my late late late old
school public access TV.
12 hours of
watching people sort Lego into different sizes.
Really satisfying.
I've got Dye Henwood with us on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, Lego Masters is back on the
TV, on TVNZ2.
All right, I'm going to put you on the spot here, Dye.
Guess the Lego punchline.
Obviously, you're a comedian as well as a lover of Lego.
These are jokes from the internet.
There's a bit of a theme going, so once you get one,
I think you'll be away. See if you can guess
the Lego punchline.
Okay, first one. What do you
do if someone doesn't like your
Lego jokes online? You
what? I don't know.
You swap them, like you find out their
address and you call up a swap team to go
into their house. A little extreme.
I might have gone too far.
So this isn't what I'd do.
Yeah, I was thinking
before, you block them.
But yeah, because they go block.
Or you could call a SWAT team to their house.
Yeah, you block them. That of course
makes way more sense.
I don't know if this is going to keep working,
but I'm going to persist anyway. Why was
the Lego person going to the doctor?
His nose was?
His nose was blocked.
Yeah!
There we go.
Dai Henwood, great catching up with you, mate.
Now, quickly before we go, how's the health?
Oh, it's really good, man.
I sort of had some scans and stuff in May where I find out what's grown
and what hasn't grown and what treatment
I'll be doing and that. But I've had
like, I've had three months off
and I've got another few weeks and
I'm looking after myself as best I can.
I'm travelling around the country telling jokes.
I've met so many awesome
New Zealanders just
travelling around this beautiful
motu doing gags.
So I'm mentally in a great
place and I feel really healthy
so I mean that's all I can ask for
One of the great people of this
industry, Di Henwood, we love you buddy
Lego Masters on tonight, TVNZ
you go and look after yourself mate and we'll speak soon
Absolutely, love you boys
Take care
