The New Zealand International Comedy Festival, thanks to Best Foods Mayo, is on right now and one of the stars of it.
He's a stand-up comedian, he's been in movies and TV shows as well.
All the way from Ireland, Dylan Moran is with us.
It must be amazing to travel to the other side of the world and have your comedy work with a completely different type of person, Dylan.
Yeah, it does.'s it's it's amazing you know i mean people laugh at the same stuff we think about
the same stuff because we all eat and sleep and work and yeah love people and have families and
of one kind or another you know anywhere in the world so you try and find a through line between
those it's different but it's the same yeah yeah you've done a lot of you imagine you're doing a
lot of traveling the air points must be through the roof uh at the moment one thing that would
stress me out though is being on the road all the time just washing hanging over my head
must be so much washing you don't want to know i can't go there i can't let's not go to the pants
i mean it's just there's so many so many edgy stories around that it's like are you purchasing
clothing from time to time in places yeah no it's, no. It's just like, you know, it just gets, there's just never any time to do anything, you know.
So you've got one pair of pants left for tomorrow
and you're just hoping everything goes right.
You can't have any accidents.
Everything has to happen on time if you get there.
Otherwise, everything's going to be very bad.
Dylan Moran with us, part of the International Comedy Festival.
Is there one thing that you do when you come to New Zealand?
I think about going for lots of lovely walks.
You think about it.
I think about going for lots of lovely walks.
I have seen some gorgeous places here.
So, you know, I hope I get to do something this time.
Yeah, well, I hope you get to do more thinking about walking.
Bike riding is something I do sometimes do in New Zealand.
Oh, you do?
It's a fantastic place to walk.
Are you riding electric biking like my dad?
No, no, I like a real bike bike.
So that's what I'll try and do.
I'll get on a bike somewhere.
Oh, it's one thing that winds us up about both our parents.
They're like, we've been out for a bike ride.
5Ks.
Electric bike.
It doesn't count.
It's not really the same, is it?
I mean, they're out there.
They're doing something.
It's just sitting down very comfortably while things change around you.
You're right.
Now, obviously, being a stand-up comedian
for many, many years, but also acting
as well. Many movies,
even Notting Hill back in the day,
pretty incredible that you've been in iconic movies.
Shaun of the Dead as well, acted with Michael Caine
in another movie. That's pretty incredible.
Yeah, I mean, you know, it's work. It's fun.
It is, yeah, it is.
I don't think about it too much, to be honest
with you you
know i i i'm always looking to the next gig or the next job or whatever's coming up but i'll have
i've been opposite some amazing people i don't know i'd never expected that in one way and in
another way i kind of wasn't surprised not because not because i thought i was brilliant just because
i just thought i just i was i i was always interested in showbiz as a kid.
I was never entranced by it in the way some people are.
I was never misty eyed about it.
Or I always just thought it looked like interesting work.
That looked like a fun office to go to, you know.
So you're not overwhelmed if you're in a scene with Michael Caine or anything like that?
No, no, it's like I'm interested in the problem.
I'm interested in the thing at hand.
What's the thing we're trying to do?
It's fascinating, you know,
to stick your head under the hood of that car,
that problem, whatever it is.
I'm drawn to that.
Are you fascinated about what we're trying to do here?
Is this fascinating to you as well?
I don't know.
It's not a podcast, is it?
No, no, it's a radio show.
Oh, it is a radio show. I'm trying to work it out because you're laid back like it's a podcast, is it? No, no, it's a radio show, yeah. Oh, it is a radio show.
I'm trying to work it out because you're laid back like it's a podcast.
I was a bit nervous
because I was reading an article on you
that said you despised interviews.
Is it true or is that just an internet wildfire
that's taken off, Dylan?
I think what's true is that people write things down
and people read them.
Yeah, well, that is thoughtful.
Now I don't even know what the answer is.
Now you're bamboozling me.
No, I don't despise them. Do you seem like a despiser to you? No, no, it is thoughtful. Now I don't even know what the answer is. Now you're bamboozling me. No, I don't despise them.
Do you seem like a despiser to you?
No, it's been great.
We've had a great time.
We've loved having you here.
People write things down and then other people read them and that's it.
That's fine.
So great to have you here again.
Great to have you performing around the country.
You can catch Dylan Moran and We Got This.
You can get all the details at the New Zealand Comedy Festival website.
Lovely to meet you.
Thanks for coming in.
Really appreciate your time.
And thank you for holding in that sneeze for the last couple of minutes.
Sorry, guys.
I did shit myself.
Those pants.
Those pants are gone.
