The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
It is The Hits, Jono and Ben on your Thursday morning.
And we spoke about this yesterday.
Sky News presenter in Australia,
basically calling out 660 and a poster using Toreo on the poster.
Have a listen to this if you missed it.
In New Zealand at the moment,
there's been a big push to be more inclusive of the Maori,
of the Maori language, the so-called iwi.
There's a lot of new language coming in.
I'm going to show you this poster.
Here's a poster for a pop group which was sent to me
called 6060, 660 or whatever.
It's all in Maori.
There's not a word of English anywhere in there.
Say what you want about the guy,
but his te reo pronunciation was bang on, bang on.
And now we've got Marlon joining us from,
is it 660 or 6060?
I'm not sure. Hey, boys. How's the Maori going there, Marlon joining us from, is it 660 or 66E? I'm not sure.
Hey, boys.
How's the Maori going there, Marlon?
Oh, so good, bro.
So good.
So what did you, I mean, you guys had a really, really classy response to that.
You know, you posted the clip and you invited this presenter to your concert
if he wants to see inclusiveness and he wants to have a good time,
a bit of positivity.
But you must have kind of been lost for words when you first saw it.
Oh, man, it was ridiculous.
When we first came across it, we were like, this can't be real.
We actually checked if it was a fake account.
But it was like a legit news outlet trying to say, you know, like, it's against free
speech.
The use of Māori is the only thing they released.
And it was just lazy.
I'd hate to be the person who tells them that in France they speak French.
Everything's written in French in France!
Why aren't they speaking Australian, mate? The best language in the world!
660, you guys have offered them free tickets to the concert.
Apparently he's responded, but have you seen anything?
No, we haven't. We saw that, but we haven't heard anything through management or anything.
He invited you to one of his shows, I think,
to go and watch him record his news.
It's not even worth it.
Now, we were wondering, did the invite, you obviously got the tickets,
were there flights, a comm, backstage pass, or what was it, just a GA?
What are you putting on when it comes over?
I don't know, man.
Probably nothing.
I'm pushing into the wrong show.
Yeah.
What I did like, though, I mean, obviously what he said was shocking
and we shouldn't really be giving it the airtime.
But what came out of it was floods of support for you guys
and a lot of positivity, you know, a lot of response on social media.
So that must be heartening for you.
Oh, man, it was, you oh man i was you know it was
pretty nervous nerve-wracking that uh just before we released it trying to figure out you know first
how to respond and then actually like putting it out there and it's not really our thing but um
honestly we've got such a good such a good support and backing and it's been so positive
and because of that actually we we've decided to do like a little special price ticket price for
help just to take the piss even more like special price of 60 60 for our our tickets for Auckland
and Christchurch and not only because of this thing but also because everyone's kind of like
struggling at the moment cost of living being so high we've just thought you know that did it for
us so Auckland Stadium Show and the Christchurch Stadium show,
we've got a special price coming out of 60-60.
I noticed you didn't push the price point to 60-60 or whatever.
You could have gone whatever.
So that leaves it really open to interpretation.
Yeah, 60-60 or whatever tickets.
You can get them for $60.60.
That's great.
Not or whatever, though, the price. Yeah, but you can go to Eden Park, 19th of November,
and Christchurch on the 10th of December,
Orange Theory Stadium as well.
So that's really cool that you guys are doing that.
Yeah, no, it's just to thank everyone.
And like I said, everyone's kind of struggling.
We've heard it through comments that the cost of living is really pinching.
Now, Marlon, I was reading yesterday that you proposed
after the Eden Park gig, but you had it in your head, was it true, that you were only going to propose to your partner if the gig went well, but none of the other band knew about that before going in?
Bro, the whole band didn't know I was doing anything.
But yeah, it was all about if the show went well and the show went extremely well. So the other thing that probably you don't know that my girl,
she took like three hours to get backstage and I was just waiting there.
I'm like, where the hell is she?
And apparently she got held up by security.
It's like, who are you?
You're not allowed in.
Where's your accreditation?
She's like, oh, I've got to go in.
The whole time I was celebrating, so I was getting more drunk and more drunk and more drunk.
It's this crossroads that came, like, she doesn't walk in the door now.
Like, I can't do it.
Like, so I actually just walked in.
And actually, I saw something during the week,
because, of course, you guys are going on your stadium tour around the country.
And, you know, you're from Hawke's Bay.
And you got to hold the Ranfley Shield, put on a Magpies jersey as well,
in Napier last week.
Oh, dude, a hometown stadium show.
I still haven't sunk in.
My dad was just like, he called me.
He's been calling me every day since the show.
And he's like, boy, I can't believe what you did.
And it's just crazy.
I grew up looking at that stadium thinking, I didn't even think you could play there.
We never had concerts there.
So, yeah, it was such a surreal moment.
Oh, that's special.
It's good when you're like you, you're playing in the Hawke's Bay.
It's the one moment that's made your dad go,
damn, they've made it.
They've bloody made it, mate.
Playing with the Magpies.
The whole time he's been like, have you got a backup plan?
Oh, no, he's made it now, mate.
Hey, Marlon, congratulations on everything.
On everything.
On playing with the Magpies, on getting engaged.
No worries, mate.
Thanks, boys.
Catch you soon, man.
