Kotori, a bunch of four Kiwi brothers, they're really on the rise.
They live in Australia and we caught up with them yesterday.
Kotori with us. Nice to see you guys. How's things?
Morena.
Morena. Now, Jono joins us over Zoom right now.
Hi, how are you guys?
Good, Jono.
Now, we've got the power right now to cut him off at any stage
because he's just a button away from not being part of this interview.
So, Jono, best questions to Kotori and they'll cut you off if they've had enough.
So, over to you.
First question.
How are you guys?
Good, mate.
That's a quality question right there.
Okay, should we keep him on the line?
Yeah, yeah.
No, that was all right.
That was all right.
Next question.
Can I have your credit card details?
Okay, cut him off.
Cut him off.
He's gone.
He's gone.
We can't hear you, mate.
He's gone. We're cutting out you, mate. He's gone.
We're cutting out there.
There's not much in there anyway.
You guys, of course, you know, the Bing brothers,
and your dad joins you on stage as well.
That's pretty cool as a family thing.
But obviously, does it, you know,
the fights happen, Bing brothers,
a bit more than maybe for other bands?
Just before we walked into this interview.
Oh, really?
On the daily.
Just, you know, standard brothers, standard mates.
How do you guys compare to, say, let's put you in Jonas Brothers,
Hanson Brothers, Oasis Brothers, where are we sitting?
Oasis Brothers, man.
I don't know those other brothers.
You haven't heard of the Jonas Brothers?
Who?
Now, you guys have been, you're born in New Zealand.
How long have you been in Perth for?
Most of our lives, probably 20-odd years.
So how do you consider yourself?
Kiwis, Aussies?
I mean, how does that work?
Māori's forever.
Put us in China,
we're still Māori.
Yeah, well,
because you're doing a te reo version
of Call It Down,
which must have been
a really awesome thing to do.
It was a big honour.
It felt amazing
to be able to carry that
through to the industry.
Because you recorded
the original song
and your parents
is in the lounge?
The whole song was...
It's in the living room.
Really?
Pretty much every song you hear, we track in the living room really pretty much every song you hear we track in the living room how does that work for everyone want to have dinner watch tv when what goes on then oh we're pretty lucky
so what yeah so you just just carry on your life while trying to record songs in the lounge
that's it bro yeah our parents have been big supporters so we just drop everything
in their living room and go from there they take their royalties but yeah well yeah because they
were musicians so i guess growing up around music your whole life it must be a huge part of your
life still which is awesome it's kind of like been standard in our house for our entire lives we're
just tracking music in the lounge room now and before it was our parents you know having rehearsals
with their band in the living room
and you guys kind of you know you were touring with 660 which is awesome but it kind of became
like a sort of viral sort of almost a campaign from fans to get you guys noticed by 660 yeah
that's exactly how we got to where we are and just big love to all of our fans that backed us
it was about 12 months ago and we just put the petition out to all of our fans. Can you tag 660 and our stuff?
We want to tour with them.
And now you're actually doing it.
That's pretty surreal.
We've toured with them.
We're mates with them.
And, yeah, we're going to their house after this, and it's pretty surreal.
And West Coast Drive, the new single you guys filmed in Perth.
I mean, Perth's quite far away.
You forget how far away Perth is from New Zealand, eh?
Yeah, it's a decent flight, six hours.
But, you know, Perth, the sun's always shining all year round.
And so you're catching the music video.
We actually, we'll probably get in trouble for this,
but we spent the budget for our music video
on taking our mates out for a Sunday session.
And then one of them had a camera.
Yeah, and so then we just rode our bikes and skateboards
down the boulevard
right in front of the beach, and we filmed that.
And then the cops pulled us over, and it's all in the music video.
Now, Kotori, of course, you guys, born in New Zealand,
lived in Australia a lot of your life.
You're kind of like half New Zealand, half Australian,
and I want to throw some other things at you now
that could be New Zealand, could be Australian.
You need to decide, Aussies or Kiwis?
Here we go.
Pavlova.
Now apparently Pavlova
has origins from Perth
in Australia,
but then a Kiwi
reckon they embedded it
in a Wellington hotel,
so who's got the Pav?
Wellington Hotel.
Yeah, Aotearoa,
they've got it.
Oh yeah,
we'll give that one to New Zealand.
Alright, Russell Crowe,
born in New Zealand,
moved there age 21,
now 58.
Russell Crowe,
Aussie, Kiwi.
What are we going to say?
He's, look, I've got to say he's as Aussie as they come.
Yeah, I'll give him that.
He owned a racehorse, didn't he?
G'day, mate.
How's it going?
Yeah, mate.
That's a really good Russell Crowe.
Crowded House.
Oh, that's hometown.
Nielsen's the only one from New Zealand, but then the rest of them, we'll give them that
one to New Zealand.
Okay.
Farlap. The racehorse. born in New Zealand, trained in Australia.
We're giving that one New Zealand Australia.
That's the nature or nurture vibe right there.
This is one of you guys on the spot, eh?
Yeah, I'm going to have to go with Aussie on that one.
All right.
And, Kota, are you guys, what are we saying?
New Zealand.
New Zealand.
I like it.
Yeah.
Probably say that next week in Australia when you're back in Australia.
Where are Auss he, mate?
Where else is he?
Aussie, Aussie.
Hey, so nice to see you guys.
Really nice to meet you.
You guys are amazing.
So good live.
If you go see them, see them with 660.
They're incredible.
Nice to catch up.
We'll catch up with you guys soon.
Thanks for having us.
