Megan Parvis, welcome!
Hello John and Ben, how are you guys?
Good, nice to talk to you.
Good.
Now Megan, exquisitely pregnant at the moment.
That sounded weird.
Is it a weird word to use?
I thought it sounded nice, I would say heavily.
I was trying to avoid it, to be honest.
Wodderly pregnant.
That was the word I was dodging.
So I ended up weirdly with exquisitely.
Take it, honestly.
Take it.
And I ask Megan every day, it's our little running gag.
I'm like, had the baby yet?
She's like, not yet.
I was like, make sure you text me.
She's like, I will.
I love how I've still got the massive mound in the front.
I feel kind enough to be like, have you had the baby yet?
Yeah, that's right.
Not heavily pregnant, though, exquisitely.
Thank you.
Now, Megan Pappas, another running joke we have in the office with you is a song that
Ben and me are very familiar with from the Forrest Gump movie soundtrack by a band called
the Mamas and Pappas.
And they sing this song.
So we'd like to welcome the Megan Mamas and Pappas.
Sorry, it's got a little bit of an intro.
Oh, here we go.
Here we go. Wait till it kicks in. little bit of an intro. Oh, here we go.
Wait till it kicks in.
It's a banger.
Here we go.
All the leaves are brown.
All right, here we go.
Now, Megan's joined us.
She probably won't after that intro.
But we want to talk about, you know, binge watching.
What should we be watching?
It's a conversation that my wife loves to have with her friends.
You know, she's always like, what's the thing we need to be watching?
So we thought you'd watch a lot of great stuff.
Maybe you can recommend some things that the people listening right now should be watching.
You're right, because I am exquisitely pregnant.
There's a lot of watching to be done.
Yes, I'm sitting at home watching things.
There is one that I've watched.
I've just finished it on Apple TV.
They did the thing where you drop an episode each week,
and I can tell you it's finally all out,
so you don't need to struggle through that,
but it's called Blackbird,
and it's got 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Wow.
Taron Egerton.
Egerton?
You'll know him.
He's an eagle.
He played Elton John in Rocketman. He's an amazing actor.
He takes on the role, which is a true story.
It's about a guy who goes to prison for selling drugs.
Then he gets offered a deal to get out,
but it involves befriending a suspected killer.
Ooh.
And it's so gritty,
and it's so weird that we like these shows
because this is actually a true story.
So as you're watching it, it makes it extra creepy,
but it will absolutely hook you.
And he does an incredible job.
Just six episodes, I'm saying.
Well, I like that.
I feel intimidated by going into a series
that someone says you need to watch
and it's like, it's Vikings and it's like 98 episodes.
I'm like, oh, I don't know if I can invest
so much of my time into that.
Why did they make so much Viking content?
Well, it's not quite 98, but it's something ridiculous.
Okay, I'll put you guys in this situation.
We're all in prison, okay?
They give us a bit of a deal, a bargain.
Right.
But you have to be best friends with a killer.
Are you taking it?
Like besties, you have to go for lunch.
What, in the prison situation?
Brunch.
No, no, no, you're out.
Oh, you're out.
But you have to go make friends with the killer,
and you have to like, you know,
if the killer needs to go to the airport, you have to take the killer to the airport. But what do I get out of Oh, you're out. But you have to go make friends with the killer, and you have to, like, you know, if the killer needs to go to the airport,
you have to take the killer to the airport.
But what do I get out of it?
You get freedom.
But you've got to be friends with the killer and provide intel.
Oh, no, you're a narc as well.
Enough out of you.
I'll be talking to Megan again.
All right, Megan, what's another show we should be watching?
Well, now that you've said you don't want to invest in, like,
a million episodes, when I was pregnant want to invest in like a million episodes
when i was pregnant last time i watched a million episodes of drag race rupal's drag race have you
ever watched oh that's a good show yeah it's really well done if you've met that's quite
intimidating because there's like 13 seasons but you can pick a season you can pick the down under
version or you can pick other versions all right yeah, that's what I was going to talk to you about is Drag Race Down Under.
We're up to season, episode two, season two.
But it's really good because you hear some Kiwi accents,
you hear Australian accents.
It's about our Kiwi queens.
And if you've never quite understood what the show's about,
it is about drag.
But they also talk about their stories, their heartbreaking stories about kind of not fitting in.
It's kind of like a soap opera and Project Runway mixed together.
So there's fashion and it's actually really funny
and quite sweet at the same time.
So you should definitely, if you've never watched it in group all,
jump in with Down Under because it feels like a little bit like home.
Chris Parker, who we used to work with for many years on TV,
you'll know from Celebrity Treasure Island.
I saw a wee teaser.
He's on the next episode.
He's one of the guest judges, I think, by the looks of it,
which is pretty cool.
They had Lucy Lawless on the last episode.
So for the Down Under season, they get heaps of Aussie and New Zealand famous people.
Bindi and Robert Irwin were on.
Oh, were they?
Do you know we had the most awkward moment
I think we've ever had with Graham Norton, actually.
We were interviewing Graham Norton
and he had been watching RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under.
And he said to us,
I love you both on Drag Race.
You're hilarious. And we knew we weren't
on drag race but we took the compliment well he didn't know what he didn't want to like put him
wrong we didn't know if he was doing some sort of strange joke or something we're like well this is
unusual if it was but what had happened there was some other comedy duo or something that had been
on there and for some reason he confused it with us and all through the whole thing it was like
and we took all that credit yeah great and then we got an email from his people a little bit later going
Graham was mortified he's so sorry
he's realised that wasn't you
please say sorry from Graham
but I was mortified, I was more
mortified because we'd taken all the credit, we didn't know
what to do we just kind of went
Graham Norton gives you a compliment you're not going to
turn it down even if it's not meant for you
he lapped up the adulation. Now
Megan can I talk to you, I've got Megan Palmers with us
on what to watch, what to binge online.
Stranger Things. I don't get it.
My kids loved it. They watched the whole thing.
Have you watched any
Stranger Things? No.
Well, maybe start with that.
Maybe start with that.
You can't come out and say you don't
get it. It's a throwback
80s, you know, the style of the – even E.T.,
Stand By Me, that sort of genre sort of thing, and it's supernatural.
Yeah.
Season three, I can understand because a lot of people season three fell off,
and they were like, oh, no, this is not for me.
Season three was a little bit meh-meh, but season four, I mean, it was amazing.
They lost me at season three.
Because you haven't even started any of it.
I'm looking at the top ten shows on Netflix.
Stranger Things 2, 3, and 4 are sitting in the top ten.
Stranger Things 4 has been inside the top ten on Netflix for ten weeks.
Yeah.
Well, it's good, Jono.
I don't know how much more encouragement you need.
Not for me.
I don't get it.
How are you going to understand all the Vecna memes?
All the memes are going to go over your head.
You've got to watch it.
I've got a lot of stuff going over my head.
A lot of stuff.
And is there anything else we should be tuning into, mate?
Well, I actually just watched one last night.
It's a little bit more serious.
It's a doco on.
It's not new, but it's from 2016 on Netflix, and it's called Embrace.
So it's about women and body positivity.
It's actually quite heartbreaking.
It goes through all the statistics of how many women get plastic surgery,
and it'll blow your mind.
But this woman went around the world and spoke to women everywhere
about how they felt about their bodies
and people who were making
positive change. So it's actually
really interesting. It's
really heartbreaking, but it's also really
empowering. And so it's good
for women to watch, but it's also good for
men to watch because obviously everyone
has a little bit of...
No one's entirely happy with themselves, are they?
No.
But it's a really good watch, especially for people who have kids
and how we speak to them about our bodies and stuff.
So I found that really interesting.
It's Embrace on Netflix.
Oh, good on you, Megan Parvis.
You can catch her also from the daytime here on The Hits.
Thank you so much for your time, mate, and back next week.
Thanks for having me. Did you know you had to come back next week? We've Thank you so much for your time, mate, and back next week. Thanks for having me.
Did you know you had to come back next week?
We've booked you in.
Oh, yeah, perfect.
Yeah, well, we're hoping this will be a regular thing,
but maybe we'll get an email like Graham Norton's people afterwards.
Don't call me.
I'll call you.
Thanks, Megan.
Thanks.
