This John O'Bien podcast brought to you by HelloFresh, the experts in tastes that Kiwis love.
It is the Wiggles with us right now in studio.
They're back in New Zealand on the Wiggles Groove Tour.
All tickets released for Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch.
Great to have you here, the Wiggles, and great to have David Walliams.
Look, we've got David Walliams.
He's peering through the studio window right now.
This is like a crossover of children's entertainment that we never thought we'd have.
No, that's right.
The Wiggles are meeting David Williams all live on the road.
Davey, he's coming in now.
He's the fresh off.
The Wiggles, you guys look quite, look, Chia, you look quite excited about David Williams being here.
It's my childhood right here.
Oh my God.
Hello, hello.
David Williams, hello. He's come Williams! David Williams! David Williams!
Hello!
David Williams!
Hello!
He's come on in, he's come to see the Wiggles.
We never get guests in the studio, now we get two big bangers all at the same time.
This is incredible.
You're a lot older than the other Wiggles.
Yeah, that's very true.
You're like Daddy Wiggles.
I'm Daddy Wiggles.
There's even an older one than me.
Really?
Yeah, it's unbelievable isn't it?
How old's the oldest Wiggle?
Oh he's 60 and that's the age of his dad. You're like Daddy Wiggle. I'm Daddy Wiggle. There's even an older one than me. Really? Yeah, it's unbelievable, isn't it?
How old's the oldest Wiggle?
Oh, he's 16.
So is Dorothy the dinosaur, and then how old's Anthony?
Compared to the dinosaur.
A couple years younger.
Dorothy's five million years old, so Anthony's quite similar to that.
David Williams, it is a pleasure to see you face to face.
So many Zooms.
I know, look at me.
You look fantastic.
Do I look good?
You look great.
Doesn't he look good, Wiggles?
Have you met the Wiggles before?
Of course I have.
I'm the Wiggles' number one fan.
No, I haven't.
You smell really good.
I know I do.
You're only close to me.
Don't fight your feelings.
How are you?
So the Wiggles are performing now, tonight?
Tomorrow.
We do daytimes.
You're clashing with your shows.
Now, is there children's show beef here?
Because you've got your kids shows

Are you?
Are you going to ask a question?
You said that you dared me to ask a question
if I could come backstage and see you in your underpants.
Now, does that need context?
Do I need context to ask that?
Well, all I'll say is in the theatre,
when you go and see, if you've got a friend in a play,
you know, like after the show ends, you run backstage
because if you're very lucky, you get to the dressing room and they're still getting changed.
We also don't know what to do with this joke, mate.
Me and my mum went to see Jude Law in a play.
You've never seen my mum go up those stairs to ask me.
She's got mobility issues.
And then he had his top off and he said,
oh, sorry, I haven't got my top off.
My mum said, oh, don't mind me.
But I've seen Ian McKellen in his underpants as well.
You've seen Ian McKellen?
What does he look like in his underpants?
What's that?
What does he look like in his underpants?
Very good.
Yeah.
I'm really committed to this hug, too.
Oh, that's great.
Okay, so listen.
You wrapping yourself up?
Wiggles, Wiggles, Wiggles, I love you, Wiggles.
Oh, thank you.

You can have three Wiggles.
Do you want to come to the show tomorrow night?
I would love to.
Would all the Wiggles like to come?
Yeah, I'd love to.
Would you like to come on and do a song?
Oh, my God.
Of course, bro. Wiggles.iggles! That would be a great moment. Kids would lose their minds, wouldn't they?
Yeah. Well, some would. Have we just formed a collaboration? A super group! Go! I can't stay! I'm going to be on television!
Oh right, I've heard of television. It used to be a thing. I know I know We still have television So will you sort this out

Wiggles in the studio
David Williams
has left
it was a surprise guest
this morning
but great to have you guys here great to have you back in the country great to be here apologies for David Williams has left. It was a surprise guest this morning, but great to have you guys here.
Great to have you back in the country.
Great to be here.
Apologies for David Williams.
He really railroaded your interview there, Wiggles,
but he's invited you on stage to a show to perform.
Sounds good.
Maybe tonight.
Well, yeah, if we can make that happen, that would be incredible.
Before, you know, we're big fans of you guys,
and not very often we have you in the studio,
so we wanted to get your autographs, if you don't mind.
We'll start with you, Lucia, if you don't mind.
Just signing a photo of yourself.
You have to explain the photo that we've given you.
So this is a photo of me when I think I was like two
in a Dorothy tutu.
Very nice technique there.
You're obsessed with Dorothy, aren't you?
I still am.
You were performing with the Wiggles since you were young.
Yes, it's very true.
That is an adorable photo, Lucia.
It's a very good ballet technique there.
Oh, wow.
Okay, Simon, we've got a photo for you as well too.
Now, Simon, explain your photo.
Yes, this is one of my first appearances with the Wiggles.
I think it was like 2004 as a wiggly gremlin.
Yeah.
A wiggly gremlin.
Hiding behind a tree?
Yeah, you're kind of crouched in a public park there.
Crouched in Lycra behind a tree in a public park
with a very big grin on my face.
So, hi, we've got one of you as well,
if you can sign that as well.
So cute.
Now, do you know any idea what that photo was?
I think I did like a cultural performance when I was little
and that was me on the steps afterwards.
You haven't changed.
I've changed. You guys were
adorable children, yeah.
Simon, you were
adorable too.
In the lycra
in the park as well.
And John as well,
we can't forget about you, mate.
Oh, yeah.
The photo of you.
Now explain the photo
over there.
Now hopefully you've got you
and not your twin brother
who's identical.
So yeah, this is
actually my twin brother.
This is Lenny.
Is it really?
Yeah, this is my forehead
as you can see.
I can really tell. I thought, is it really? Yeah, this is my forehead, as you can see. I can really tell.
I thought, is it really?
I sit there to produce the Elliot.
I was like, make sure you've got the right.
This is a great picture of Lenny.
I know his autograph.
Can you sign it as Lenny?
You can sign it where his neck tattoos are now.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Lenny.
And then put yours in there.
And we did have one of Anthony as well.
We can take that one as well.
Look at that monobrow.
Oh, wow.
That's Anthony in the original green skivvy.
Yes.
Or it was just washed a few times.
No, they just faded.
Can I have a look at that one?
Yeah, because he was originally a green wiggle.
Oh, he's looking a little dishevelled there, isn't he?
He is looking a bit dishevelled.
We've got the Wiggles with us this morning.
It's lovely to have you guys back in New Zealand.
And if you've got a question for the Wiggles,
we'll take some live calls here.
Nick, morning to you.
How are you?
Hi, how are you going, guys? We're doing well. You're on
with the Wiggles. What do you want to ask them?
Hi, look, big
fan. I've got two young kids. They absolutely
love your work. Awesome
job. Question
for Simon. You obviously
wear red all the time.
When you're away from performing, do you still wear red?
That's a great question.
It is a great question.
Nick, I actually never wear red.
It suits you.
Thank you.
I feel like I've got a bit of a pink complexion,
so I don't know if it's really the right colour for me.
Not the right colour palette.
When they gave you one, were you like, oh, red.
I mean, it's an honour to be in the Wiggles, but red, you know.
Yeah, look, no, I am happy with red, but I actually don't wear red when I'm out at all. They gave you one Where you're like Oh red I mean it's an honour To be in the Wiggles But red you know Yeah look no
I am happy with red
But I actually don't wear red
When I'm out at all
I'm more of a
I'm more of a blue guy
Controversially
Oh
I'm coming for my job
I'm coming for your colour
Hey Nick
Hey Nick
Are you going along to the shows?
Oh we're not going to the show
But I mean
I'm sure we'd love to
The kids would
But
Oh right
Have we got tickets for the show?
Oh I see
See if we can work that out
We'll try and get you some tickets.
We've got a David Williams show tonight, if you like.
$65 voucher for the warehouse coming your way, though.
That's coming your way.
Good on you, Nick.
Appreciate that.
Do you ever...
Like, when you're out in public,
I was just watching you in reception
before you're all dressed as you're dressed on your show,
your show outfits and captive feather swords out there.
Do you ever look at yourselves and go, oh, we're out in public like this? And do you notice people dressed as you're dressed on your show outfits and Captain Featherswords out there. Do you ever look at yourselves and go,
oh, we're out in public like this?
And do you notice people looking at you?
Yeah.
You do?
Yeah, you do.
We were filming outdoors the other day,
and we finished and I just left in my wiggle clothes to get home.
I thought, oh, I'm going to go and get a coffee on the way home
and hopped out of the car to go to the cafe and went,
oh, actually, I can't.
You'd just get mobbed.
I totally forgot that I was still wearing my Wiggles clothes.
Do people recognise you when you're not, when you're in your civilian clothes, John?
Yeah, we started to get that a lot lately.
We've been doing it for the last few years, the new ones especially.
We do get picked up by the parents.
The children don't really recognise you as much without your outfit on.
John gets recognised by the mums a lot.
Oh, yeah.
That's because John never wears a shirt.
We bought you a perfectly good skivvy.
I just blame my brother Lenny.
He's my twin brother.
It could be Lenny, that's right.
So how's life changed for you and the Wiggles?
Oh, massively.
And now this is my first international tour without my family.
Like, I'm doing it as a big girl now this is my first international tour without my family. Like I'm doing it
as a big girl now this time.
So I'm absolutely loving it.
Best crew.
Oh, so you took your family
around the world with you?
Yeah, I did.
I used to,
it was usually my mum.
She used to come along
as my chaperone,
but she was literally
my best friend in my room.
But now I've got
all my new besties.
Oh, great.
Flying solo on the tour.
Flying solo.
Lucia, of course,
working with your dad as well.
I feel like you've been
introducing him to some new music.
I've seen the Wiggles sort of do some different songs of late.
Yeah, well, we've got the DJ Dorothy Rave of Innocence album.
So DJ Dorothy, she's a DJ now.
She's done remixes of all of the Wiggles classic songs.
And it's really funny when dad, you know,
comes to some of the DJ Dorothy shows and he gets up on stage.
He has no idea what he's doing. It's really
funny to watch. I do love
the rave of innocence too.
It's great title.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
The Wiggles are with us in the studio. Have you got a question
you want to ask them? 0800 THE HITS
4487. Ben, you just presented
pictures of them in younger
eras having to sign themselves and Jon
we got your twin brother actually at the time.
Sorry.
Look at your brother's haircut.
He's kind of got a long sort of emo mullet going on,
but the bottom of it dyed blonde.
Yeah, he was Skux Deluxe back then.
We all had that hairstyle, and that's what we did.
We dyed it, we strained it.
I haven't heard that term for a while.
I've never heard that term.
You guys are
you know
you're identical
but he's very
different looking
now to you
right
longer hair
yeah like
biologically
everything's the same
it's just he's
grown a beard
lost a little bit
of weight
and he's got a
top knot
with a tattoo
on the side
of his head
it's a great way
to distinguish
the difference
between us
you've got Lenny
and you've got
John
it's not an alter ego by you or anything like that.
It's not you.
Text here, 4487.
If your songs come up on your playlist,
are you listening or skipping?
Listening.
I've got a three-and-a-half-year-old,
so we listen.
We listen.
Personally, I skip.
Do you skip, Luchia?
Yeah, look, we hear them all the time.
I don't have a kid, so for me, but yes.
When did your child make the connection between the two?
Pretty early on.
He came on the road with us, Asher, as from a little baby,
so he's sort of been around it.
But he doesn't actually watch the show too much.
He doesn't like it that much.
He's more of a Fireman Sam guy.
Too cool, too cool.
Hello, The Hits, you're on with the Wiggles.
You've got a question.
Oh, yes, yes, I do.
Take it away um sorry
took me by surprise you know you're calling us right
um hi guys um just wondering when you when you perform uh do you get a lot a lot of the parents
singing along with you yeah, that's a great question
I feel like it's become a full circle moment now
Because a lot of the parents were children going to Anthony era shows
So it's really full circle
You did some pub gigs too, didn't you?
For the adults
Yeah, the adults do sing along
Sometimes they're into it a little bit more than the children
Oh, it's very true.
Oh it's so good to have you here, we'll let you go because I know how busy you are, but thank you so much for hanging out, it's great to have you back in New Zealand.
New tickets released for all your gigs, so get all the details at the hitstock.nz. Thanks for hanging out and what has been quite a memorable 10 minutes with us.
It really has, great to talk to you guys.
