On Friday, of course, we were in Marston for the world's shortest parade to save my costumes, which is a lot of fun.
A lot of people turned out, which was awesome.
And then on the way out of Marston, there was a really special surprise as we were driving back to Palmerston North.
They said, hey, we've got a surprise.
Just take her, go on this back gravel road, just take her right down this driveway.
And you're like, is producer Troy and Grace, have they got nefarious reasons for this?
Yeah, I was like, are we going to be frightened?
We didn't know about this, didn't we, yeah.
It's cool.
So we ended up in Mount Bruce area, Pukaha National Wildlife Center, which was awesome.
And we got to see a baby Kiwi that was about nine days old.
Yeah, it was so cute.
Made little noises.
Yeah.
Fresh little Kiwi.
Just wanted to put that Kiwi in my hoodie and take it home.
But you couldn't, apparently.
Yeah, that was really cool.
It's amazing thing.
I remember going there as a kid through that area, and it's really great.
There's amazing birds and the eels.
You guys, we got to see the eels, and the eels are really impressive.
These are some big eels.
They were big ears.
One of them was 80 years old.
It was huge.
And I was like,
but they were very proud and protected with their beautiful ears.
They love their eels.
Do you know,
I reckon we need to extract whatever DNA the eels have.
I couldn't tell the difference between a three-year-old eel and an 86-year-old ear.
You know, they look magnificent.
Yeah, there was like no wrinkle.
No wrinkles.
No wrinkles.
They look beautiful.
No grey hair.
You couldn't tell, you wouldn't be able to pick just because they were all massive, well-fed eels.
And then obviously there was a bit of ed.
eel banter going around?
Well, yeah, so the people there at the
Wildlife Centre were giving us a lovely talk about,
you know, how really interesting stuff about how they live
in fresh water, they go out to the ocean for
breeding and stuff as well.
All the way to Tonga.
Yeah, like all their stuff as well, how
they do so much for the ecosystem
and all the nutrients. They were all
lady eels that we saw
because the male oils
stay away because I was going to say
we'll, the lady eels will eat them
if they come to close.
So we've got all this fascinating stuff and how important
as people will go, oh, the eels, you know, can be misunderstood, right?
But they actually do so much for our rivers.
Very important to the ecosystem.
And this is really good.
We're all like, oh, wow, we're getting all this actual stuff.
Then Jono comes out of nowhere just said, and I can't say exactly what you say,
because I can't say on radio.
Someone did mention it about how they do a death roll.
They do death roll your genitals off, basically.
But he said it a lot more direct than that.
That's all he said.
And everyone just looked like, like he was like an eight-year-old kid that just put it out and stuff,
and you're like, oh.
Like, did you just say that?
No, I said anything.
We're all stunned and we looked at him like, why did he say that in front of it?
And then you said, they will.
Well, they will.
That's what I've heard.
If you're swimming in a river, say you're skinny dipping in a river.
You have to be skinny dipping, I think.
If the river's not cold and you're feeling relaxed down that region.
And you're hanging out in the bank?
And the eel could feel threatened.
Bang, it latches on, death rolls it off.
Straight off.
You're like, oh, yeah.
Clean off.
You wish there wasn't a jotto associated with us in the name of the show.
in that moment because you're like, cool, thanks your input, mate.
And then she took a pause and went back into like,
how good they are for that ecosystem and stuff as well.
I didn't know if they acknowledged my fact.
Did they go, yeah, it's true?
No, I don't.
200 razor sharp teeth that face backwards.
Boom, that'll come clean off.
They did say they do death roll, yes.
But I don't know if that's happened.
That just feels like, yeah.
So that was cool.
That was cool.
That was a client where we were trying to win over.
Producer Troy has done some good producing.
you said fact check on the bottom of the run sheet.
No,
no,
they don't death roll your bits off.
It's never,
no,
no record of that ever happening to anyone ever in history.
They do not do it like crocodiles.
Okay,
so maybe you think about crocodiles.
I'm glad you brought it up in that moment right there.
Like just,
no filter,
no filter,
just straight out with that.
Serious chat about eels.
Thank you.
Well, thank you.
I'm sorry,
I brought shame upon the show there.
You are free to linger in the banks,
naked in the rivers.
We just sign them on as a client.
I think we might have lost them.
I think so.
We know who's fault it is.
