The Jono, Ben and Megan podcast, thanks to HelloFresh, your home advantage for delicious
midweek dinners everyone will love. Nicole, good morning. Good morning. Good to catch up with you.
Now we saw all these celebrities hanging out at Saturday Night Live in New York City, 50 years.
I presume you're in the crowd with them all? Oh yes, how did you know? Lorne Michaels and I go
way back. No, but all all joking aside i heard that this was
such a thing like there's only so many people that like the saturday night live studio is actually
much smaller than people think um you know even for people to come in to go to a like a live
recording of just a normal saturday show there's like not there's only so many tickets that's why
they also sell rehearsal show tickets and this was like uh like who's the most
vip like who's really good friends with lauren who can get a plus one because i'm sure you saw
in the in the crowd like there was a lot of celebrities that did not have their significant
other with them because it was just you know it was it was really tough they had an overflow room
i mean this was insanity wow so everyone wanted to be there, did they? Yeah, man. I mean, as many A-list celebrities just probably kissing Lauren's butt,
like just trying to get in there.
I mean, it's a huge thing.
It's historical.
This is a historical show.
It's been on for 50 years.
It's touched the lives of most people.
You guys watch Saturday Night Live there?
We get the clips.
We get the clips like on YouTube and stuff.
But we've all heard of Saturday Night Live.
I've been watching since I'm young.
And every, you know, well, it seems like every comedian
that becomes famous started there as well.
Every celebrity wants to go on it.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's just, yeah, that's where a lot of people's careers took off.
Like most of the people that, you know,
because you don't really make a lot of money.
I don't know if you know that, but they make like nothing.
It's really about this is a stepping stone.
You would think that they would be loaded.
I mean, I'm sure Kenan Thompson's got money because he's just like the dude that will never leave.
And I'm obsessed with it.
I don't ever want him to leave.
I love him.
But yeah, a lot of them, it's just like so people know your face, know who you are.
And then, yeah, a lot of them will leave there and work on other projects or go do a movie.
And yeah, it's usually a great stepping stone for their careers.
I was listening to a podcast.
Conan O'Brien was someone who got his launch from there as well.
He said it is relentless.
Relentless.
Working sort of 17, 18-hour days.
He said you have one day off to recuperate and then you're back into it.
He says it's a never-ending treadmill.
Yeah, because think about it.
It's not like a sitcom or something where there's for this episode this one episode this
week we have like an like all the same people same characters continuing a story maybe and
there's a script this is all of them writing and pitching different things and then working with
different personalities because different musical guests and just hosts are coming in and what will
work what are they okay with what are they comfortable with and you know adam sandler
said in his song that he sang which was epic that like oh like you're always depressed on that sunday
right like you're always depressed it's like a lot of build-up a lot of build-up and then the show
and then the after party i mean that's probably some of the reason you're depressed party goes
into sunday morning but so there's a few things that came out of the episode, I guess,
and one in particular was Ryan Reynolds
in a sort of scripted question and answer bit.
He seemed to be making light of some difficulties at the moment,
and he's copped a bit of flack for that.
Yeah.
So I think that they got a bit of flack just for even showing up.
I think a lot of people were surprised to see them there.
Like this one might not have been like the best look, you know,
Justin Baldoni's lawyers are saying,
I've never heard of somebody who has accused someone of sexual harassment
and then been able to make jokes about it.
That was like his take. And obviously, you know, that, you know,
that was going to happen. I also was unsure.
I don't know if you guys saw the clip where he is asked,
because obviously a lot of that is scripted.
But it looked like he said, why?
Have you heard anything?
Like alluding to the fact that they've been all over the press.
And Blake had been smiling until he said that.
And then she looked up like, oh, God, please don't say anything about.
So I don't know, again, was she just acting?
And that was like part of the deal.
But she looked genuinely scared. Like, please do not turn this into this. This is going to be a bad idea. But I don't know, again, was she just acting? And that was like part of the deal, but she looked genuinely scared.
Like, please do not turn this into this.
This is going to be a bad idea, but I don't know.
He needed, well, he hid the room.
He wanted to laugh.
He went for the laugh.
I mean, he's so charming.
Like he really can do no wrong, to be honest.
I love that man and he's amazing.
And like, no matter how you cut it,
this is ruining a lot of people's lives.
You know, whoever's wrong.
Yeah.
But yeah, I think if anything, my opinion is that when you have something this crazy no matter how you cut it, this is ruining a lot of people's lives. You know, whoever's wrong.
But yeah, I think if anything, my opinion is that when you have something this crazy happening in your life and career,
the best way to handle it is to just go head on.
And they did that by showing up and at least making a light joke about it.
Yeah.
Have you been to Saturday Night Live?
No, I'm dying to go.
I've been offered like two or three times
and it just hasn't worked out
to go. Um, but it's like one of my favorite things during the week. I rarely watch it on
Saturday night cause I'm either out or I'm sleeping, but we'll watch Sunday morning.
We've got Nicole with us in a couple of weeks. Uh, you'll be catching the Warriors
first game in Las Vegas. I'm very excited. Do you know how many times my husband has said,
please don't cheat on me in Vegas?
Is that the part that's making you excited?
I mean, I got to say, these rugby players,
they're not too bad to look at, I'm just saying.
Is it getting any hype?
Is it getting, you know, because we see, you know,
you guys talking about it.
We see some footage back here.
They put it on big screens around cities in America.
They even invited, I think the NRL invited Donald Trump to come along.
I don't know if he's going, but is it getting some hype?
I think so, because I do know that I saw Rob Gronkowski,
obviously an American football player,
that he was going to possibly be handling some of the press for and kind of being a correspondent.
But I don't know if they actually landed him. And then i know they were trying to get tom brady good luck with that
um and yeah i i think it might take a minute but i think that this is a good like launching pad
like i feel like americans don't love change but we love sports all spany and all sports like we
just like the competition so this is like another chance to bet and lose all your money or just to have a you know something to watch and drink beer and eat wings why not
Vegas is a wild time uh any weekend isn't it yeah yeah I'm not I I did tell my producer
my Ben I don't think this is a good idea that we are there for that long it's a very dangerous
place it's a place that you should be for a weekend,
maybe a long weekend, right?
Like a week there, you might never see me again, guys.
I don't know what's going to happen.
We ran into some young New Zealanders who were over there.
They'd been there for two weeks.
Oh, my God.
They looked dead inside, their eyes.
There was no soul.
Just hollow, just hollow.
Yeah, because you never know what time it is.
And I learned this just a few years ago.
They pump oxygen in the casinos and into the hotels
and keep the lights on very bright to keep you awake
so you don't know what time it is.
So when you're in a casino.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, you know what's so funny?
When we were in the Bahamas, not this past Thanksgiving,
but Thanksgiving before, there was all these water slides.
So my kids went on the water slides.
We lost one of my kids.
Don't worry, he's fine.
We've got him again.
But when we got him back, he was like,
you guys got to see this.
I was just in the biggest arcade ever.
We were like, oh, buddy, that's a casino.
That is not an arcade.
Was he wandering through the casino?
Yep, yep.
Just a little seven-year-old just busting around,
playing the slots, little craps.
Now, I wanted to ask you, Nicole,
there's a lot of issues going on in your country,
our country, around the world.
There's a lot of big things,
but Donald Trump signed an order to get rid of plastic straws.
I mean, how big on the list of things was that?
You know what?
When he was weighing it out,
it was like plastic straws,
guns that kill lots of people.
Plastic straws,
guns that kill lots of people.
I mean, priorities, guys, right?
He's got his priorities straight,
don't you think?
Yeah, well,
the paper straws do get soggy on top.
Yeah, they do.
They do, yeah.
I loathe like a paper straw.
I loathe it.
I hate it.
Oh, it's the worst,
but there's got to be a better way
than going back to the plastic straws
or like any plastic for that matter.
We know what it does to the environment.
Yeah, there is a better way.
You can put your bloody lip on the side of the cup
and you can sip it.
You're right, Megan.
You can.
There is another way.
I must say your drinks that you have over there,
enormous, enormous.
You can get like three liters of Fanta.
Well, that's why we have an obesity problem here in the United States of America
because everything's supersized.
Everything's like you want extra large.
And you're like, oh, I'll never eat it all.
And then you're like, look at the plate at the end.
I've eaten it all.
Everything.
Yeah, or I'll like get something that's too big.
I'm like, I'm never going to finish this.
Wrap it up, bring it home. And I'm like, I'll, like, get something that's too big. I'm like, I'm never going to finish this. Wrap it up, bring it home.
And I'm like, I'll eat it tomorrow.
No, I'll eat it later that night when I feel like a midnight snack.
I mean, I'm doomed either way.
Now, you've been saying a long time that Bianca and Kanye,
they weren't going to last.
And what do you know?
No.
Last week, it's over.
I know that.
I'm hearing both, conflicting reports though like some people
are saying she's done she wants to file for divorce they do not have a prenup which is not
a good look i mean he lost a lot of his money like a while ago when all that when he first started
saying all those horribly anti-semitic things um you know he was dropped by all of his deals
but it's interesting sorry to jump in there i saw a great social media observation
saying um you know they didn't have a prenup a prenup but only if only there was a song a
popular song that had the line about a prenup as well i'm saying she a gold digger yeah we
mentioned it many times in his song right prenup yeah she's not just like I just don't I don't understand. Like, unless unless she is super wackadoodle do like there's no way she can stay with him.
Like, I don't know. How can you know? Like, I'm wondering if behind closed doors, she's like, dude, what are you doing?
What are you doing? You're ruining your life.
I mean, it would be best for her to get out of there and run as fast as she can.
I mean, a lot of her family members have spoken out and made it seem as as though she's like under this spell and being brainwashed i mean he has like a culty vibe
like i could see him being a cult leader right like i could see him knowing how to mess with
someone's mind and take advantage and uh yeah i think that they should be done i don't know if
this one did it maybe he needs to do something even more outlandish for maybe third time's a
charm i don't know what's going to happen.
He's that famous where, you know, you've lost grip of reality, isn't it?
Touch with reality.
He's got that level of, I want to reach that level of fame.
But she needs to divorce him before he loses too much more of his money.
I mean, I'm not saying she's a gold digger, but like if you're going to do it.
That would be smart.
But I don't know.
If she stayed here this long, maybe she is like one of his dedicated followers
and they're starting the Kanye cult.
You're always like – when you – like famous people like Kanye,
he's got his public persona.
What is he really like as a person sitting at home on a Sunday in track pants?
I don't think normal.
I think he's one of those people who has streams of consciousness,
is always thinking a little bit outside the box,
is always having these super meta-type conversations and thoughts
and is just saying things for shock value or to start a fight with someone.
I think that he's not that different at home.
I really don't.
Who's the person that you've come across who's maybe been perceived as out there, wild,
but they're actually very quiet and normal?
Ooh, that's a good question.
I've got a guess.
I reckon Miley Cyrus.
Oh, she's a little bit still cuckoo.
She's just fun.
She's got a lot of energy.
I thought Ladyaga was going
to be a nuts because the first time i interviewed her was when she first popped on the scene was
like wearing meat dresses and stuff like that and when she came in she was so lovely and like
really looked you in the eyes it was like she forgot that we were on the radio and was like
having like this beautiful conversation she was thoughtful in her answers and she wasn't like
weird like that that's Gaga, right?
She almost like sat there as Stephanie.
So I think that was probably a good example.
She's quite understated, is she?
Yeah.
Like really just a lovely person who is like,
like had respect for us, like was like on time
and was like asking me anything
and really wanted this back and forth
and would be like, well, what do you think?
Like was just really just, it was like a nice conversation.
Like I could have sat on a couch with her drinking red wine
and talked all night.
Well, there you go.
That makes me happy.
Because you only see one side of these people,
and obviously all humans are multifaceted.
Yeah, I mean –
Are you?
Yeah, are you multifaceted?
No.
So many facets.
So many facets.
I can't even count them all.
Also, you have to remember that it's not normal to be famous
and that they are pulled in different directions
and they're responsible for a lot of people's paychecks.
And yeah, it's weird to be a celebrity.
It's weird to be famous.
And you do lose some semblance of reality, not like Kanye style,
but I think that can
affect the way that you act towards other people.
Absolutely, yeah, why wouldn't it?
Hey Nicole, listen, we will let you go.
Thank you so much for your time, really do appreciate it.
So you're
telling me I'm not going to see you in Vegas.
This is hurting my heart. This is a huge surprise
from our boss.
We've tripped away at it.
Do you know how many times we've passive aggressively,
well, not even passive aggressively, just said,
hey, Nicole's going to Vegas.
They're all going, we should meet over there, do a thing, do the show.
We've tried so many angles, Nicole.
Matt, our boss, is good friends with being your boss.
It all makes sense.
You're like, you could come too.
We could all hang out.
Let's not lose hope.
Let's not lose hope. Never never a few days okay all right well hopefully we'll
see you in vegas if not we'll talk to you next week bye guys
