Morning, Drapes Project. Join us in the studio, good to see ya.
How are you? Listen, we're just literally fresh off hearing your brand new song.
There was a bit of an administrational error that was taking place.
You were like, have you heard the song? We're like, no.
And you're like, we've got it on our phone and we're trying to find a cable.
And then a dongle, a little connection for the cable.
A real big issue, the dongle situation in the world.
They're solving it, they're solving the dongle situation in the world. They're solving it.
They're solving the dongle.
Yeah, I think there's
going to be one
universal one.
You're right.
People have been
complaining.
It's called a CD.
Oh, wrong.
But we finally got there.
That's the solution.
And we listened to it
and the new single
Oh My, which is out
today, is a band.
It's awesome.
It's so cool.
I always wonder,
like, with the process
of creating a song,
do you know when you've released a banger and you're like,
mate, the people are going to eat this up.
We're going to make millions retire.
You literally never know.
Our worst songs, we've always thought, we're like,
this is so, this is the best song ever.
Oh, really?
I mean, you can't predict it.
We only put out stuff we like,
but you just never know what other people are going to like.
I saw a really cool clip last night of Shawn Mendes at Z at zm in the studio and he was just sitting there about to
do an interview with cam mansell and your song was playing woke up late he's like who's this
this is great and then he was looking at him in his phone he's like drax project these guys are
awesome yeah and he's really cool didn't even ask us to open for him really after that we actually
we actually met him like a year later a year or two later at the i heart festival in vegas we're backstage there we just watch him do his set in this like massive amphitheater thing
and then we got offered to go and meet him out back by our label we're like oh yes please so we
go we go meet him and we're just standing there four of us like awkwardly as like just come off
stage so he's like saying hi to these huge
massive dogs
big dogs
all these label people
and we're just standing
in the corner
he doesn't know
who we are
we're so awkward
and Justin Timberlake
had just finished
doing a collab
with him
on stage
so Justin Timberlake
is right behind him
and he's like
probably our biggest
inspiration I'd say
collectively
we still play his songs
at our shows
we're basically
weeping and trembling in fear.
How do we approach these guys?
But he was like to Sean, he's like, yeah, man, just text me.
Come hang out.
And we're just like, well, this is Eric's affair.
You're like, what's your number?
He didn't pass your number on.
But he did end up coming and say hi.
He was really nice.
And he did say he remembered us.
And yeah, our friend was like, oh, these are Drax Project.
They played you their song, woke up late in the studio that time in New Zealand.
He's like, oh, you guys.
That's cool.
So maybe he might have been making that up.
But he was nice.
We were watching just before videos of you guys, how you got your big start, you know, busking in Wellington.
Jeez, there were some chaotic scenes back then, weren't there?
Just like a crowd of people in Wellington after the sevens, just going hard.
It was such an energy back then, eh?
Like it was the first time that people had really played live instruments busking, I feel.
Especially drums and saxophone.
That's a weird combo.
We were just loud.
Louder than everyone else.
Do you make good cash on a good night?
I reckon that night that you're talking about after the sevens.
That was the height, right?
That was probably, we would have walked away with.
Think about the tax.
They obviously paid tax after tax.
Allegedly.
Allegedly.
You could have walked away hypothetically.
I feel like enough time has passed.
The IRD aren't really looking that far back.
And yeah, excluding 33%,
we walked away with maybe 600 bucks each.
Oh, really?
I don't remember that number.
Ka-ping!
We got him, Ben!
We got him!
Bring him in, guys.
Still been in the library.
All the time up until now.
You guys would do that.
You guys, out of anyone in this country, would do that.
I saw you had a song, Judge Judy.
Is that the most random thing you've written a song about?
Okay, that's actually a good example of like, yeah, we posted a video.
There wasn't even music.
It was literally a video of me recording the vocals in the room.
It was just me singing real quietly.
And then it got millions of views, which is quite, you know,
it's quite annoying when that happens.
It's like you put heaps of time and effort into these songs that you love and you craft and then you put the stupid video on the internet and and people just like
love it and you're like oh are you a fan of the judge oh we love the judge we actually met her
my wife would die she is like that judge is your idol she's lovely one of the most interesting
things about her was that her husband also calls her the judge oh really how did you meet judge jr yeah uh well sorry ird war out
we plead guilty yeah that's it he's like all right guys
she was literally literally just like walking out of
this hotel that we were eating food at oh he approached her and she was lovely oh
the guy that we were with and he goes like this he's like hey judge
meet my boys drax project we're like oh my goodness
i've been watching you on tv at my grandma's house since I was three years old.
Hey boys, if you can introduce your new song, it's always lovely hanging out with your Drax Project.
So guys, it's Drax Project here.
This is our new song, Oh My.
Let's go.
Right here.
Yeah.
